A slightly tipsy Nikolai pouring his heart out to an equally tipsy Laswell who is starting to regret taking up Niks offer for a drink, because Nikolai hasn't shut up about Price ever since they started downing shot glasses. The man is damn near about to sob, with how emotional he's gotten over Price, reminiscing about their shared past, crying about how much he loves him but it's probably not even reciprocated, that John would never look at him that way, and further sobbing into his glass.

What Laswell is forgetting is that, she actually called John to join too, and he's actually standing right beside the door, completely shocked after the things he's heard. He's torn between wanting to leave and pretend he heard none of it, and joining them for a drink while also pretending he just didn't hear his best friend confess how much he wants him. He's fucking screaming on the inside. His heart is trying to claw out of his chest. Its going to be a long night.

The sheer look of horror Laswell has on her face when they lock eyes as John enters through the door is priceless, though, he'll give her that.

(Nikolai bursting into tears when he sees John, throwing himself at him and squeezing him in a hug while he babbles about what a good man John is while barely containing his excitement. He isn't even aware how much he's confessed so far. Price is about to pass out on the spot. This can't be happening. The man he's spent his years yearning over is now confessing that he wants him. Price wants to die.)

The people have Spoken, so I'll be reading this 618-page brick next! The cover page credits the author, an artist, a composer, a geomancer (??), and the author of the intro, so. I suspect I'm in for a Ride™. I am both Excited and Intimidated--will report back on how this goes!

Sometimes I see things at thrift shops that make me feel so bittersweet. This box is full of paper dolls, mostly from the 70s but there was a Beauty and the Beast one from 91 and the ice cream one from 2007. In the third picture the doll clothes for this particular one were stored in an Eckerds photo envelope which was a retail chain that went out of business here back in 2002.

Who’s collection was this? Where are they now? Have they passed? Were they moved to a home? Did this belong to a family or just one person? I don’t know anything about the persons involved in this other than they really loved paper dolls and it’s sweet to know that someone out there really loved these paper dolls to have kept them since the 70s till recently. But also sad because these beloved items have found their way to this spot because something happened to the person who loved them. I wonder if these little dolls will ever be loved the same way again.

#I considered buying one because I do love some children’s illustration from 60/70s #and I’d have put them on my wall or something but I wasn’t sure #paper dolls #thrifstorefinds #I always feel this way when I see a bunch of clown stuff I’m bulk #imagining someone’s grandma passed and like me she really loved little clowns #but seeing paper dolls was a little different from the usually collection bulks I run into #it’s just kind of nice to imagine some person out there loved paper dolls so much they kept them 50 years

i said fuck it and entered this shop that sells minerals on the side. i already have them in my collection but i got a labradorite and a dioptase for my birthday

#also a pair of silver gold plated earrings. bigger than what i usually wear but i like them #that shop sells stuff from asia too. statuettes instruments clothes manifactured there #incense and other spirituality related items #it's a place run by a woman that's been here for decades. she's sick lately #but she's never missed a day in her shop. i really like the place #the smell of incense carries over to the bags these came in #so i like to visit. i told myself i wouldn't get anything for myself but. i guess two minerals aren't too selfish to get #so maybe they'll help my mood #i also. for those who are new around here. i don't collect minerals for spirituality related reasons #i collect for scientific interest. but i still like this place a lot and i am fascinated with the spiritual side of the practice

Me, looking up the politics of Baldur's Gate: Oh this city's government is falling apart at the SEAMS.

#it's no wonder gortash took over with such unanimous support #do you know what that city's been through #the politics go like this: council of four (dukes. includes archduke) is the ruling decision-maker #the archduke only holds more power than the others by means of breaking stalemates #ravengard was in elturel bc another duke (vanthampur) staged for him to go there so she could take grand duke #she's dead now #dillard portys was the former grand duke before handing it over to ravengard and stepping down to normal duke #he's either a spineless coward or falling into senility. maybe both. hard to tell #gortash says his wits are failing. also apparently he's too easily swayed to be a good pawn #then stelmane. the only one with sense. was murdered #under the co4 is the parliament of peers. that's 50 people with 12 of them from the lower city and the rest either #nobility guildmasters or retired adventurers #they propose things to the co4 for review and convene daily #those are the bulk of the patriars in gortash's coronation. some of them are so petty and/or shallowly dumb #like one of them is definitely falling for an mlm scam in-game #different group: city officers. five people that serve the co4 #there's the harbormaster that looks over imports and tariffs and stuff #there's the high constable and master of walls: he governs the watch. you know the watch that was replaced by the steel watch? that watch #so with those blowing up that's a great addition to the security of the city #there's the master of drains and underways that oversees all the water functionality of the city. pipes and cellars and stuff #the position's not easily gained bc it requires expertise the patriars don't usually have. you know who held that position?#vanthampur. the co4 member who shafted ravengard. the dead one. there's no master of drains in baldur's gate #there's the master of cobbles who handles roads and buildings. honestly that guy has got his work cut out for him after the netherbrain #and then the purse master who does all the financial stuff and invests city funds and distributes pay and collects taxes #this is BEFORE we talk about anything to do with the guildhall. or the zhentarim. or handling the refugee influx.#or the cults of bane and bhaal and shar that are sitting pretty in the city's gut #or the 7000 VAMPIRE SPAWN???#to speak nothing about the ILLITHID ATTACK and SUDDEN CEREMORPHOSIS #anyways. baldur's gate as a city is royally fucked #bg3

I say as I laugh in 10 alarms, 4 missed check up calls, 1 dog (35 lbs) dropped on me, and a karate chop (right in the stomach) from my sister

Trying to remember where I first encountered humanity as a horror to see if this has a root the same way you can trace literally all of my thirst for fictional characters back to WITCH, but ngl I genuinely cannot remember anything like that.

#like you know. usually if something becomes human the narrative depicts it positively #like this is a good thing this is teh goal yay yippee #and that's great of course #love that #but everybody knows that i keep a collection of characters whose main conflict is humanity (horror) vs their nature #the example everyone likely knows is The Last Unicorn. and I saw the film adaptation when i was like 5 so maybe that's the root #but the thing is i... didn't realise the true horror of it until i read the book #so that shouldn't be it. but yes TLU is a classic example of humanity being the body horror AND the psychological horror #the unicorn was not meant to be a human. its nature isn't to be a human. it doesn't know human emotions. but it does now.#fully against its will and against the laws of nature it was changed into a she and now she is just like us and every day she looks #at her hands with horror and the hideous caricature in the mirror does not become less nausea inducing no matter how much #time passes. the repulsion gives only when the mind does. who are you really? what are you really?#and then she turns back but it ahs changed her. she will live knowing love and empathy and the fear of death.#she'll never belong anywhere and she'll have no kin. she's no longer human and no longer a unicorn.#sorry that got long because it's fucked up and depressing. but yeah that's like the prototype. the other wonderful classic #has got to be Viser I in Ani//morphs but honestly all Ye//erks are inherently this trope?#but a bit differently because they actually AREN'T that different from humans but their society shaped them into being #very different and the real horror is in realising that you have been very human all along. against your will.#the horror is just the same as if someone forced you to become a human because; well; what is the difference really?#perhaps it's even worse. i mean; the knowledge that you have always been like this; that has to be horrible; right?#and the other members of this beautiful collection aren't exactly classics but I love collecting them anyway. favourite niche fucked up #thing for real. for the uninitiated currently the other ones are Var//ney from Castle//vania (a mix of both of the above technically.#since he's something that is fully separate from humans YET his nature is actually human to the point that a character comments #on it and the kicker is he's fucking right! he's more human than many a vampire used to be. the humanity is inherent but he's very human #against his will and he'd deny being like humans at all. separating himself from humanity but hey! someone forgot that mirrors #are a thing! and they might not reflect vampires but they reflect what's within and boy your words are bullets shot in the dark corridors #of a funhouse and when they hit those funky panes of glass the one bleeding is you. you better check your mouth is dry #before you open it with a grin and stare in shock as blood pours out next time #another example is Gray from Dreamcatcher. yes i continue to ignore those few sentences at the end that completely ruin all the themes #and the last example is The Wi//nged Li//on. for obvious reasons. I'd say that's a mix of Gray and TLU
