“ oh my god, imagine the day we're moving out. i'm gonna cry my eyes out. “. with tom holland? 😭😍
Looks Like It // roomie!Tom Holland x Reader
dialogue prompt from here
Warnings: assumptions of sex (nothing really stated so pretty PG actually)
The keys hit against the metal door as Tom attempted to open the door quietly, under the assumption you were fast asleep by now. Tom vocally winced, looking back at the date he’d managed to bring home. “I’m sorry, just trying to be quiet. Sure my roommate’s asleep.” He mumbles, giving the blonde woman a small smile before pushing the door open.
Tom was taken by surprise when he noticed the outline of your head poking up over the shared couch, watching trash television. Your head turns at the noise behind you, a smile playing on your lips as you see your roommate, Tom, entering with the woman. “Hi!” You call out. The woman waves, looking at Tom questioningly. You’re sure he failed to mention his roommate was a female, so Tom was quick to cover that ground. “This is my roommate, y/n.” “Nice to meet you!” You piped up. “You too, I’m Liz.” She responded, moving closer to Tom.
Tom and Liz bid their farewells as they made their way towards the room that sat right across from yours. With a wave, you slumped back down into the couch and continued on with your show, pushing aside unspoken feelings and pushing the “happiness over getting your heartbroken” to the forefront of your mind.
You and Tom had been roommates a little over a year now. Though a lot of that year was spent with mainly you taking care of the house and bills while Tom sent you his part miles and miles away, there was still many moments that the two of you had shared.
First moving in was filled with a fairly quiet place, except for when Tom had his brothers or friends over, who actually seemed the lighten the situations pretty often. It wasn’t until one night you went out with friends and came home plastered, in which Tom just so happened to be home for that and offered himself up as a help. Curly hair and all sat next to you, rubbing your back as you let the entirety of yourself out in the porcelain bowl, and not to mention the ibuprofen, water, and saltines sitting on your bedside table the next morning. After that, there was just no turning back.
The friendship deepened, moments spent together with no push, calls made while he was out of town to check on you, the little trinkets he’d bring back from traveling that made him think of you, like the small snow globe of NYC that he’d surprised you with to add to your collection because he knew it’d been your dream to visit one day. And it slowly fed into your infatuation of the brown-eyed boy. But you pushed it all aside for the friendship you’d unexpectedly formed with your roommate.
Waking up on a Saturday morning in the Holland and y/l/n household when Tom was around was typically filled with the smell of a fresh brew and today was no different. You pulled yourself out of your sheets, peeping out of the door to see if you could hear hushed voices but, like expected, it was just Tom and it was probably just a one-night type of deal - agreed on by the both of them.
“Tom?” You call out, feed padding across the wooden floor of your place. “In here, darlin’.” You walk in just to see him pouring you a cup in your favorite mug. You let out a content sigh as Tom hands you the mug, sitting at the island across from you. You breathe in the warmth. “Oh my God. Imagine the day we’re moving out. I’m gonna cry my eyes out.” You state, letting your joking take the lead in this quiet morning.
Tom lets out a laugh, curls bouncing from his forehead as he shakes his head. “And why’s that?” “I will no longer be spoiled by Tom Holland.” You say, lifting your mug. “Who said that’ll stop? And who’s planning on moving out, hm?” Tom takes a sip of his tea while leaning back.
“You keep bringing these girls home, you might fall in love.” You say. A grin comes across the both of your faces as he lightly pokes your hand. Tom isn’t oblivious to his own feelings for you. Bringing a girl home had become a distraction for a while, even while filming or doing press, but at this point it had just simply become a reminder of what wasn’t his, and that seemed even harder.
Tom observes you as you do your usual morning routine after the small talk you’d share. You pull your phone out, catch up on all the tabloids and news for the morning while you sip your tea quietly, enlightening the air with a giggle if you just so happen to come across a meme that you flash towards Tom, who usually gets it. He watched you tuck your hair back behind your ear, the strands that had fallen out of your usual nightly bun that had barely made it to morning.
Though he’d memorized so much about you, he’d continued to learn more and was eager to learn more. He’d notice your new hobbies you’d picked up on while he was gone, a new candle you’d purchased for the season changing, the subtle change of decor and colors throughout your place. And he was fully infatuated with all of it and all of you.
He sucks in a deep breath as he watches you, feeling his heart stutter at the sudden look you give him at the noise that had escaped his lips. “Everything okay?” You ask, tapping your fingers on the island. The boy gives you a smile before letting out another breath, bringing his elbows in front of him. “Just thinking about how I can’t imagine either of us moving. Looks like we’ve gotta live together forever, darlin’.” “Looks like it.” You agree with a grin.

Gimmie ALL the Fun Facts for the OC ask meme, plz. ☺️
aye aye, you got it! 😎 this is great!
FUN FACTS
1. Which tropes do they fit? Which archetypes?
originally answered here
I have to admit that my general knowledge of tropes and archetypes is still in need of improvement so I used this website, this one, and tvtropes.org for some help. :3 Chronic Hero Syndrome: The hero can't resist helping out anyone and everyone in need who they may come across. The Paladin: They combat the forces of evil wherever they are found, and defend the helpless as much as possible. Survivor: One who somehow survives, even against insurmountable odds. Never gives up and always pulls through. Work Hard, Play Hard: A character who is serious and hard working at their job, but loves to party and have fun when at home. Cuddle Bug: Character who enjoys giving hugs. Action Girl: A female badass who is tough and kicks butt. Damsel in Distress? Not her (most of the time). Insists on Paying: A character who, even when offered a freebie, insists on using their money to pay for it. Jack-of-All-Trades: A character with all the basic skills and is able to do a little bit of everything. [Gigi is absolutely guilty of that. Blame it on the ADHD tho. But she can teach you how to knot intricate bracelets so everyone's winning!] The Genki Girl: A character possessed of an over-abundance of energy. She lives her life full-throttle. [I am not familiar at all with this trope but it sounded fitting. Please correct me if I particularly misinterpreted this one though!] OOC Is Serious Business: If a character is behaving outside his usual characterization, the situation must be serious. [This bitch is so annoying and her only coping mechanisms are humor and getting drunk so when she gets real silent when confronted with John you know shit is real and she is shitting her pants.] The Temptress: A beautiful woman who seduces the hero. [Maybe not seducing the hero... but literally everyone in her close proximity lol.] Characterization Marches On: Character's personality is different in later episodes than they were in the beginning. Write Who You Know: A character is based off a Real Life person the author knows or knew. [It's me :3] Caretaker: The character who insists on taking care of others before themselves. Empath: An archetype that feels the pain of others deeply and wants to help. Gifted Child: A child with extraordinary talents, whether natural or supernatural, often a saviour for the story. [Again, blame the ADHD.] Girl-Next-Door: Wholesome girl who is pretty. Hardworker: A person who is willing to work long, hard hours for the betterment of themselves. Hedonist: One whose life goal is the pursuit of pleasure. [This woman fucks. It's what she's known for.] Masochist: A character that keeps engaging in a situation that leads to their pain and suffering. They’re often a visionary who regards their toil as necessary for their cause. Mr. Fix It: That one guy who insists he can fix anything, whether physical or emotional. [She does not exactly insist but feels obligated to. Whatever it is, she will do her best to make it right.] Prey: A victim of the predator. [You are meat much?] Student: Person who is always trying to learn new things in the context of school or life. Vigilante: This character takes justice into their own hands.
2. Do they play any instruments? Sports?
originally answered here
She plays guitar. Not super well but it's enough to accompany her singing and that she does well! Same for playing the piano. Generally, she is musically inclined she just lacks any formal education, and now the time to practice. Dep Gigi does not play sports apart from horse riding but she starts to learn bat tricks when it becomes her trusty companion.
3. What are some items they always carry?
originally answered here
a chewed up pen, cliff bars, ibuprofen an,d a knife plus her trusty rusty bat for more insight into her pockets pls refer to the OC inventory tag thing I made ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
4. Do they collect anything?
not specifically anything physical, although she is really bad at throwing things away, but she does collect ༓・‧͙⁺˚*friends*˚⁺‧͙・༓
5. What position do they sleep in?
My deputy is a wiggly af sleeper. She will never stay in the same position for long but mostly comes back to sleeping on her side, preferably wrapped around a pillow or partner eventually.
6. Which emoji would they use the most?
🌝
7. What languages do they speak?
Besides English, of course, she speaks some basic Spanish and Norwegian.
8. What’s their favorite expletive?
hmmm... impeccable question! probably fuck. or shit. or shit-fuck. (but that's pretty basic. I wish I had a more interesting answer.)
9. What’s their favorite candle scent?
the goop x Heretic This Smells Like My Vagina Candle oof this is a tough one because I am not really into candles :D I think she would like fresh and simple scents so probably something like a citrus, jasmine, or rosemary candle would be up her alley.
10. What songs remind you of them?
originally answered here
Demons by Sleigh Bells
You're gonna pay for it They will purify block by block by block [...] I wanna know Which way will the heavenly go [...] Demons Live on And when I die, hang me high
pls listen to them I have been obsessed ever since playing Lillipop Chainsaw (on another note: I still wanna cosplay Juliet lol) also pls listen to Pussy Riot, they're so good!
11. Which animal would you say represents them?
another tough nut! possibly a wolverine or fox I'd say.
12. What stereotypical high school clique would they fit into?
this is cheesy, but probably the popular kids. she is an absolute social butterfly and people-pleaser after all. she has always been friendly, kind, and outgoing. who wouldn't love her? 🥺
13. What would their favorite ride at an amusement park be?
Two words: Wing. Coaster. She generally enjoys rollercoasters but those are her favorite. Staci and Joey took her to an amusement park shortly before her first day to bond a bit and get to know her. Stace made the mistake of betting who could endure more consecutive rides. Joey wasn't having it - smart - he ended up throwing up and Gigi was on her approximately 400th ride, smiling wide and giggling happily.
14. Do they believe in aliens? Ghosts? Reincarnation or something else?
Not really. Still... she does not like to be home alone at night after watching supernatural horror movies.
15. Do they follow any religions/gods? Do they celebrate holidays?
No, but she still enjoys going to church for the occasional holiday service. More so for nostalgia reasons and the feeling of community though. She'd also be really honored if friends were to invite her to their places of worship as a guest for the same reasons. Generally, that's why she also still celebrates the most popular Christian holidays. Food, family, being together - it's what she thrives on.
16. Which Deadly Sin do they most correspond to? Which Heavenly Virtue?
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Wrath, baby! but also kinda lust
for the virtues I'm very torn between kindness and charity...
17. If you had to choose one tarot card to represent them, which would it be?
originally answered here
once again, my knowledge on this topic is not very broad (I also do not really "believe" in tarot cards other than liking their aesthetic) so I tarot.com for some more info
"Let your light shine. Be confident in the sacred power of your original nature."
"The Sun Tarot card radiates with optimism and positivity." [source]

no excuses writing meme: BEFORE THE BEGINNING
thank you! this actually really helped me get out of my writing funk
The woman lowered herself to match Ara’s height, where she could look her in the eyes, her own outlined with black eyeliner, the light-colored skin speckled with dusty eye-shadow, like storm clouds in the distance. “Aralion,” the woman started, with a voice so soft and sweet it was condescending, “you have potential. And there are some very influential people who have noticed it. If you play your cards right, you could get further in life than a waitress.”
Ara clenched her fists, fully prepared to argue that her mother loved her job and that was all that mattered. Before she could say anything, her mother touched Hawthorne’s shoulder gently- but that wasn’t quite right. Aralion could see nails dig into the woman’s skin. “It’s time for you to go, Hawthorne,” her mother said. Her words were so carefully crafted that the threat was distinguishable, but the suggestion remained polite.
Hawthorne’s smile didn’t fade, but it changed into something darker. She stood up and pulled her shoulder away. There were purple crescent marks left from Ara’s mother’s attack, but she when she tilted her head sideways to study them, she seemed unconcerned. “The world is changing, Faye,” she said, looking back at Natalie. “Thirty-eight out of fifty. If you won’t change with it, just remember what happened to the last one.”
Ara’s mother turned paler than she already was. Hawthorne made her descent back into the crowd of party goers, but Ara followed the smile on her red lips with narrowed eyes, watching as the woman turned a corner and vanished.
She turned back to her mother. “What was-”
Her mother breathed in, her throat visibly tight, and cut her off with thee shake of her head. “Not yet,” she said sharply.
Ara fell silent.
With a hurried goodbye to the host, they rushed from the party and were homeward bound. The car ride was cold and silent, Ara’s stomach ache driving her to fall asleep with hopes it would be gone when she woke up. Her mother eventually nudged her awake and urged her indoors. The television was on, noise wafting through the house, her father and brother sat on the couch. They exchanged no greetings, no pleasantries. Ara grabbed a cup of water and ibuprofen. When she headed to bed, her mother stopped her, lingering in the hallway. The lights seemed to flicker above them, unsteady.
“I’m sorry, kitten,” she said. Her eyes- brown, just like Ara’s fathers- were sorrowful. “You don’t have to understand right now. One day I’ll explain.”
They didn’t know that the very next day, the world would loop, sending one version of Aralion Faye back to the beginning, with memories of a party and a million different realities that had happened after. The explanations would come later, after the fire that she’d felt time and time again. And one day, Aralion Faye would understand.
Until then, she laid in her bed, staring at the shadows on the ceiling as they danced, hearing the mumble of her parents talking, unsuspecting of the way the world would end.
make me stop procrastinating!

Migraines || Catherine of Aragon
mkay this is totally a prompt from @freetotakeourcrowningglory (the “i think aragon’s not okay” one) because i was in the mood to write more aragon but had no inspo and then i saw the list of their prompts and got this idea. so, enjoy this sorta short fic written by a sleep deprived me lmao
Catherine of Aragon would never admit it aloud, but her sleep schedule was a mess. She spent hours unable to sleep for various reasons, some of which she could identify others she couldn’t. It wasn’t that she got night terrors like Katherine or Anne did, she just couldn’t sleep for some reason more often than not. Regardless of the reasoning, her sleeping was disastrous. While it wasn’t quite on the level of Parr and her frequent all nighters and consequential caffeine addiction, it wasn’t uncommon to see Aragon sipping on a Red Bull before a two show day, drinking more than a couple cups of coffee in the morning or sneaking in a nap on a busy day.
Another nasty effect of having such a tumultuous sleep schedule was waking up after very few hours of sleep, was the dizzying migraines that caused her to mumble curses in Spanish. She’d shuffle out of bed on those mornings and down a few ibuprofen tablets before heading down for some food. Most days she could take enough ibuprofen that the pounding headache dulled into a sluggish throbbing that she could manage.
She proceeded as normally as she could on those days, and she’d crash the minute she got the chance to sleep it off. Sleeping off her headaches were some of the nights she got the best rest she’d gotten since she’d first been brought back to life. She tended to look at those nights as a small silver lining to massive headaches.
However, as the queens’ lives got busier, and Aragon was physically more exhausted and still getting too little sleep, these migraines got more frequent. Much to her distaste, all too often she’d wake up with a sharp pain shooting through her head. It was one morning that all of this came to a simmer.
The minute the dark headed queen opened her eyes, her world spun and a sharp pain made itself known right behind her eyes. Instead of fighting to get up and get medicine or morning coffee like she normally would’ve, she just wanted to roll back over and go back to sleep. By far, this had been the worst headache she’d had. Normally, she was one of the first up (aside from Jane and occasionally Anna) to drink her coffee, have a few moments of peace, and read whatever daily scripture her bible app recommended. She could begrudgingly thank Boleyn for the idea of downloading that app.
Lying there though, head spinning at a nauseating rate, Catherine couldn’t imagine leaving her bed and being productive. Then again, if this was to be like any other day, she wouldn’t get another chance for peace. If she didn’t get up then, she’d most likely be thrust straight into the chaos of the day later on when she did decide to get up. Still, against her better judgement, that’s exactly what she did.
As the other queens started to wake up and conduct their morning routines, they noticed the Spanish queen’s absence.
“Is Aragon not up yet?” Anne asked walking out of the bathroom with a robe on and towel around her hair. “Normally she would have told me I was taking too long in the shower by now.”
Cleves, who’d been waiting to shower next huffed, “No, she’s still asleep I think, but you didn't need her to tell you that. I’ll do it. Katherine’s using the other shower and you took twenty bloody minutes. I probably won’t have any hot water left.”
Anne shrugged, an impish grin on her face, “Sorry. I had to relish not being told to hurry up.” Anna only rolled her eyes in response before entering the bathroom to take her own (lukewarm) shower.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen Parr had finally dragged herself down the stairs for a cup of coffee. “Morning, love,” Jane smiled from her place at the kitchen island.
“Mornin,” a still bleary eyed, bedheaded Parr replied. When she glanced at the coffee pot, she furrowed her brow, “Did Catherine Anna not make coffee this morning?” she asked noting how clean and unused it was.
“Anna drank tea this morning, and as for Catherine she hasn’t been downstairs,” Jane explained with a shrug.
Catherine tilted her head, looking a bit more alert, “Catherine hasn’t been downstairs? Normally she’s the first awake,” Parr asserted wondering if her godmother had forgotten to set an alarm.
“Afraid not, but if she’s still sleeping we ought to let her. She’s been looking tired, and we don’t have a matinee today-” Jane said shaking her head, but she was cut off by Katherine hurrying into the kitchen.
“I think Aragon’s not okay,” she announced, anxiety written all over her face.
Jane’s brows shot up at this proclamation, “What makes you say that?”
“Well Anna got in a fix because she’d run out of her conditioner, so she went to ask Aragon if she could borrow hers and she was still asleep, like deep asleep.”
“I’m sure there’s no reason to worry about that Kat,” Parr chimed in before Jane, “sometimes people just need to sleep late sometimes,” she continued.
The brunette crossed her arms, “But Aragon never sleeps late, ever. I know I could be overreacting, but it’s such an abnormal thing for her. What if she’s sick?”
Jane frowned, “If she is then we’ll worry about it then, and I’ll check on her soon so we have some answers. I’m sure she’s fine.” It hadn’t occurred to Jane that Catherine could be sick. After all, the queens were incredibly busy and that could run somebody down quite a bit if they weren’t careful.
Katherine nodded with uncertainty, “Okay, mum.” Arguing the subject wouldn’t be conducive to progress. Until one of them actually spoke to Aragon nobody knew if she was sick or just sleeping in. “Want to watch TV with me or something?” Katherine asked after a moment of silence.
Jane nodded, “Sure, why don’t we watch some more of Killing Eve?” She knew that Katherine would still worry about Aragon if she didn’t occupy herself. The girl nodded with a small smile before she headed toward the living room, Jane not far behind her.
Parr sat in the now empty kitchen with her cup of coffee, orange and cereal. For once she’d gotten a decent amount of sleep, crashing after pulling a few all nighters in a row. At least she had most of the day off and could work until they left for the theatre. The seldom quiet in the kitchen in that moment was welcome, but soon broken by Anne making her way downstairs. “Morning, Cathy,” she greeted as she began rummaging around in the pantry before emerging with a protein bar.
“Morning, and you realize we aren’t in a hurry? You could eat actual breakfast,” Parr teased nodding toward the protein bar Anne was now unwrapping.
The wild brunette shrugged, taking a seat across from Catherine at the table, “Meh. It’s just easier to eat one of these sometimes.”
Parr shrugged in return, “Suit yourself.” The pair fell into a comfortable rhythm of Parr finishing her breakfast while Anne munched on hers and scrolled through social media, occasionally leaning over to show Parr a meme or some sort of tweet or picture about the show.
Once the curly headed queen had finished her breakfast she stood up, “I’m going to check on Aragon,” she announced. Catherine put her empty bowl in the sink and her orange peel in the trash, hearing Anne mumble some sort of affirmation, her eyes glued to some video.
On the way up, Catherine passed Cleves heading down. The German gave her a friendly nod and a customary good morning which she happily returned. Upon reaching the eldest queen’s room, she knocked first. Receiving no response after several minutes, Parr pushed the door open to find that Aragon was still indeed asleep.
She should have just let the woman be and slipped back out quietly, but a certain sense of curiosity got the better of her. Katherine had been right in saying it was odd for Aragon to sleep in, especially until nearly eleven in the morning, she noted glancing at the digital clock on the bedside table.
Parr gently shook Aragon and soon enough, a disgruntled pair of brown eyes stared up at her. “Hm?” Aragon asked squinting. It was safe to say, more sleep hadn’t helped her fend off the headache.
“We were all just wondering if you were okay since you’ve slept in so late,” Parr informed taking in the sight before her. Katherine could have been right, Aragon didn’t look well. She looked like she just wanted to lay in bed and sleep.
“M’ good,” Catherine mumbled halfway sitting up, only to stop moving when the room started to spin. Once everything was steady again, she pushed herself all the way up quickly so her body wouldn’t have time to protest. Bad idea. The dizziness seemed to increase tenfold. “Mierda,” she hissed squeezing her eyes shut until the room stopped spinning.
A very concerned Parr became more concerned when she heard Catherine curse in Spanish. She also didn’t not notice how Aragon had flinched at sitting up. “I don’t think you’re okay,” Parr insisted quietly. “What’s up? And please don’t lie before you say nothing,” she added covering all of her bases. She knew the stubborn queen wouldn’t want to admit feeling down unless she was really ill.
Catherine shot her a look that in any other state would have been one of exasperation, but in her muddled, migraine-y state only looked like a visage of her normal expression. Parr held the gaze for a moment before the Spanish queen let out an imperceptible sigh, “I have a headache,” she downplayed the severity of it.
Parr tilted her head appraisingly, “Are you dizzy?” Aragon didn’t answer and Parr took that as a yes. “You get these sometimes don’t you? You don’t think we notice you taking extra Advil or bracing yourself on something, but we do.”
“Yeah,” Aragon finally verbally admitting, accepting defeat. She was feeling too bad to fight it.
“You know these are more than just headaches? They’re migraines,” Catherine continued.
“Yeah,” Aragon answered again with a sigh.
“You really should rest today. We can call Grace and let her cover your part, especially if you’re feeling like this. You need to take care of yourself.”
Feeling unable to argue, Aragon just lay back down, “If you’re going to make me rest, can you at least grab me some medicine from over there?” She glanced toward the bottle of ibuprofen on her dresser.
“Yeah of course,” the curly headed queen nodded, She moved to get two of the tablets from the bottle. Next she scanned Aragon’s room to see if she had any bottles of water laying around. Thankfully, a half empty one sat on the edge of the bedside table. She really must have been feeling bad if Parr had won this battle with little objection.
She handed both the water and the pills to Catherine who’d propped herself up on elbow to down the medicine. “I’m staying,” Parr declared moving to sit on the other side of the bed.
“Why?” Aragon mumbled already having closed her eyes again.
“Because you feel this bad, and if I felt this bad I’m not sure I’d want to be alone,” Parr shrugged deciding to make herself comfortable upon not receiving any objection from Catherine.
Aragon felt a rush of affection for her goddaughter as she lay there, already beginning to slip into unconsciousness once more. “Thank you,” she mumbled out blindly reaching a hand over to search for Parr’s knee or arm to give a quick squeeze to. She finally found Parr’s wrist and gave it a short squeeze before she returned it to its previous position.
“No problem,” sounded Parr’s voice in a soft tone, “but all things considered, you really should see a doctor if this doesn’t get better. We need you at your best,” she continued.
“Now you sound like Jane,” Aragon grumbled as she drifted off to sleep once more.

Weird Asks that Say a Lot Meme...
My friend the wonderful @meanwhileonwednesday suggested I fill out Every even number for the 'weird asks that say a lot', so here I am. Thanks, friend! XD
2. chocolate bars or lollipops?
Chocolates.
4. how did your elementary school teachers describe you?
At my first school? Artistically talented and perceptive (one teacher was very vividly impressed by my grasp of duck anatomy at like 5 years old). Then there’s the teacher at my new school who thought I had special needs because I was withdrawn (I was being bullied by most of the class, really); she was a new teacher and not really equipped to deal with that. By the end of primary school, I went back to being commended on my work ethic and smarts and artistic ability.
6. pastel, boho, tomboy, preppy, goth, grunge, formal or sportswear?
Hmmm I think my work clothes are mostly a formal/preppy mix. With a little bit of boho thrown in, particularly when I’m at home.
8. movies or tv shows?
I prefer movies, because they represent a lot less commitment (America, please stop giving everything like 17 seasons, I beg of you!), however TV show episodes are shorter and easier to slot into your life than a full movie.
10. game you were best at in p.e.?
I was generally awful in PE. I liked benchball, can’t say that I was good in it, being yet another game where being short doesn’t do you any favours.
12. name of your favorite playlist?
Either my Kickass playlist, or my Reflective playlist.
14. favorite non-chocolate candy?
Starburst.
16. most comfortable position to sit in?
Curled up, on my side, in a nice big armchair with my legs hanging off the side. Surrounded by pillows, and probably a cat or two.
18. ideal weather?
Picture this: it’s a sunny day; warm but not too hot. Maybe around 24 degrees celsius. There’s a warm breeze; it’s not stifling, and it’s not cold enough to make you shiver. The trees rustle with the sound of the wind; change is in the air. You can go out in short sleeves, perhaps with the thinnest of cardigans if like me your metabolism basically died 300 years ago.
20. preferred place to write (i.e., in a note book, on your laptop, sketchpad, post-it notes, etc.)?
Depends on what I’m writing. I am the kind of ineffectual person who starts to write tings in a notebook, but also a couple of word docs. I have post- it notes for important things. I document ideas for my comic in a note/sketch book. I love doodling in my sketchbooks.
22. role model?
I never really had one, growing up. I guess the closest I’d get is David Attenborough.
24. favorite crystal?
My birthstone is ruby (which is red; my favourite colour!) however I also love opals; I love their irdescent (OK, opalescent, technically) sparkliness and the way they shimmer with lots of colours. I don’t see why everyone prefers massive diamonds when opals are like... so much cooler. I I don’t actually own any, but maybe one day I’ll be able to buy myself a nice one.
26. favorite activity to do in warm weather?
Go for a nice long walk, take lots of pictures, have a picnic in the park. No, I lie, my favourite activity is roping someone I care about into doing it all with me, and having even more fun.
28. five songs to describe you?
Home - Ellie Goulding Fight Song - Rachel Platten Working Woman’s Blues - Valerie June Alive - Bird Set Free My Medea - Vienna Teng
30. places that you find sacred?
Already been answered.
32. top five favorite vines?
Alas, hard to name off the top of my head. I mainly know vines from various compilations.
34. advertisements you have stuck in your head?
Right now? Thankfully none of them.
36. what is the first meme you remember ever seeing?
That’s impossible to say! Memes were a thing before internet memes became a thing. I’d say that ‘S’ shape we all drew in primary school? Nursery rhymes? Who knows.
38. lemonade or tea?
They don’t usually compete for my love, but i have tea more often than lemonade, purely due to availability reasons.
40. weirdest thing to ever happen at your school?
Some students climbed onto the roof.
42. jacket pockets or pants pockets?
Honestly? Skirt pockets. But being a woman, jacket pockets are usually woefully ineffectual and small. Trouser pockets are a bit better, but again usually small. Whereas if someone puts pockets on a skirt, they make sure they are actually proper pockets!
44. favorite scent for soap?
Maybe honey, or roses, or jasmine.
46. most comfortable outfit to sleep in?
A baggy pair of PJs; I’m a dress for comfort kind of girl. Particularly since the places I’ve lived haven’t always been great in the heating department. I’ve been known to sleep in a hoodie when it gets cold.
48. if you were a fruit, what kind would you be?
I would like to be a berry, or maybe an apple. Something pinkish red. Sweet, and a little sharp.
50. what made you laugh the hardest you ever have?
Probably my little brother astounding me with how grown-up he is about things. He’s pretty awesome. Or my mum just saying something wildly, hilariously inappropriate XD
52. favorite font?
I love the Komika font family for my comic. I used to use Bookman Old Style, Book Antiqa, Georgia or classic Arial for essays and things like that, when they didn’t specify Times New Roman.
54. what did you learn from your first job?
Always call the med reg if you are stuck, be nice to the nurses and always help each other. OK, I did lots of volunteering in hospital before FY1. In which case my
56. favorite tradition?
My family/culture have a specific tradition on the morning of an exam/interview/life event where you fill a cup with water and a couple of plant leaves (Slavs love putting greenery into everything). You place it at the threshold, and give it a good kick it with your dominant foot. It symbolises your knowledge flowing, and I guess it’s a good luck charm.. You also aren’t meant to look back (literally); because you should be focusing on the task at hand. As a kid it was a comforting good luck ritual, and I don’t think I ever really grew out of it.
58. four talents you’re proud of having?
I’m proud of my artistic skills, modest though they are. I enjoy creating, and I enjoy that I can make things to cheer up my friends, or things that people here can relate to.
By extension, I’m good with my hands, and that usually translates to picking up procedures and things like that pretty quickly at work. And yes, I love being able to get that cannula in (especially if it’s on the first go!) when nobody else can. It’s a tiny, tiny thing, but it sparks a little joy. I can develop good rapports with people; which means I can help them to confide their problems, and can help them to feel better or to address things that are bothering them. It’s really mostly about listening and not being judgemental. I am proud that I can sometimes make people feel better, and feel listened to. I’m proud that I learned to try to work through my feelings. As a young person who was really quite stressed, I somehow learned how to apply what’s basically CBT to keep myself relatively sane, and I think it’s helped me a lot. It was only much later that I realised it was basically CBT when I was comparing notes with friends actually going through those kinds of therapies. I’m not perfect at it, and my mind tests me on a regular basis, but it helps.
60. if you were a character in an anime, what kind of anime would you want it to be?
I don’t know what I’d like to be in? Maybe a Ghibli film. I think I’d like that. When I was at school, a close friend of mine just turned around and said “OMG, you’re just like an anime character”, to fervent agreement from my peers. I guess they meant one of those chirpy, ditzy shojo anime characters. I can still see myself as some shojo series heroine; frantically trying to keep it together under the pressures of magical girldom, being romantically inept, trying to fight off the baddie of the week whilst learning lessons about getting along with each other, being helpful and not being mean.
62. seven characters you relate to?
Right now? Sophie from Howl’s moving castle, Princess Carolyn from Bojack Horseman, Miranda Otto from D. Gray-Man, Elinor Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility, The Red Blood Cell from Cells at Work, Kiki from Kiki’s delivery service, and Aggressive Retsuko.
64. favorite website from your childhood?
I used to love looking at other people’s art on Elfwood or Deviantart.
66. favorite flower(s)?
Today I’m feeling the answer is lilacs.
68. worst flavor of any food or drink you’ve ever tried?
Ugh anything bitter.
70. left or right handed?
I’m ridiculously right handed, but I’ve learned to use my left hand more effectively because of procedures etc. I’m really good with my hands, but my right hand takes over like 80% of the work.
72. worst subject?
PE in school, biochemistry at university.
74. at what pain level out of ten (1 through 10) do you have to be at before you take an advil or ibuprofen?
At home, maybe a 3, because I don’t see the point in suffering needlessly. However at work I’ll do whatever it takes to keep functional including taking pain relief before it gets bad because I don’t want to have to deal with pain and an on-call. I’m not sure if the scale is logarithmic? I’d rate the worst pain that I’ve had 5 ot a 6, and that made me vomit and curl up into a ball and basically unable to do anything. But I can imagine pain that’s much, much worse than that was, so perhaps I just can’t thin
76. what’s your favorite potato food (i.e. tater tots, baked potatoes, fries, chips, etc.)?
This kind of new potato salad my mum makes with onions. Raw onions are totally a trigger food for my IBS, and any time my mum feeds me anything full of onions, she’ll tell me I can take them out if they upset my tummy. And every single time I’ll pile even more onions into my plate because there’s no way I’m letting my gut dictate my life. Turns out, I’m even more stubborn than my IBS; I just don’t want to give up some of the foods that set things off. My GP once recommended a FODMAP diet, and having had a look at all the stuff I’d have to cut, I resolved I’d only start cutting things if my symptoms got really bad.
78. coffee from a gas station or sushi from a grocery store?
Honestly, I have no pretentions to snobbery. The best coffee is the one you get when you are about to collapse on a night shift, even if much, much better coffee exists in the world. And the best sushi is the plain supermarket one you get between on-calls to treat yourself, even if the one from a good restaurat is so much nicer.
80. earth tones or jewel tones?
I wear a lot of jewel tones, but I also wear a lot of earth tones, and I don’t really see them as being in competition. Rock all the colours!
82. pc or console?
Phone. XD I don’t play much on either, mainly due to time. Phone has the benefit of being in my pocket when I’m at a loose end on the bus, or at my parents’. I don’t sit down and make time to play, I play games in the stolen minutes here and there when I don’t have much to do.
84. podcasts or talk radio?
Classical music radio in the office (because it’s the most neutral), retro stations in the car (or whatever your guests would like), and podcasts at home when you are by yourself.
84. barbie or polly pocket?
I didn’t have a real Barbie (fairly sure ours were knockoff dolls) but I do have fond memories of making outfits for our toys. Though our favourites were always various little animal models who got into all sorts of adventures.
86. cookies or cupcakes?
Cookies, but it’s a close call. Really, I’d have to say biscuits, since I eat those more often than either of the above.
88. your greatest wish?
For myself? To be happy. For others? Ditto.
90. luckiest mistake?
Getting into my first degree. Feels like I fell into it, but it set me off on a great path, and I don’t regret that my initial path was far from straightforward.
92. lamps, overhead lights, sunlight or fairy lights?
All of the above.
94. favorite season?
That kind of Spring-Summer interface when all the plants are in bloom, and the weather is warm but not too hot, and the days are long.
96. desktop background?
Arietty’s bedroom from the Ghibli Borrowers film adaptation. I’m a sucker for ghibli aesthetic; usually because my rooms end up similarly haphazardly adorned with cool things.
98. favorite historical era?
Every era has its own awesomeness. I feel very fondly for the regency period because of all the books I’ve read set in it, likewise the Victorian period. Though both aren’t without their problems. I realised that I style my hair like a Victorian; centrally parted with a neat, low bun at the nape of the neck. XD
I think that might be all the questions! Phew!

So we call her over and this girl starts sprinting over toward us and RIGHT toward the spider web, and she had this big smile. And my friend and I yelled at her to stop. woe is me
This weekend, I took an amazing, solo trip to Stockholm, Sweden just to visit Klattercentret Telefonplan, and it was a dream come true--until I ripped a ligament in my ankle.
I broke my right ankle in March, 2007 during a taekwondo tournament. The growth plates for both the tibia and the fibula cracked clean-through, and I was on crutches for a couple of months. Since then, my right ankle has always been really weak, but I evened out the weakness this weekend by tearing the anterior talofibular ligament on my left side!
I wasn’t even climbing, and that’s the most ridiculous part. I had downclimbed from just testing a hold and even had both of my feet on the mat. On the first step that I took, my ankle gave out, and I heard a loud pop as I felt a sharp pain suddenly. I don’t remember a clear thought, but I felt so much anger in the next few moments as previous climbing injuries “flashed before my eyes,” so to speak.
I tore pretty much all of the ligaments in my left elbow last year while climbing, and I hadn’t given climbing another shot until two months ago because of that injury. Since I just got back into climbing and just decided to really invest in it for the long-term, I was suddenly so angry at the moment of falling and so determined not to be injured that badly again... Some thoughts flew through my mind.
This is not happening again. I don’t want to stop climbing. This is unfair.
What do I do? I’m in Sweden, alone and immobile.
A man to whom I had previously given some tape got an employee from downstairs, and she came and wrapped my ankle in a bandage. Eventually, we gathered my things, and the man was so generous as to drive me to the nearby hospital where we learned that I was not covered by insurance--and I was not about to fork out £400 when I could hobble around for a day and a half until returning to London where I could get free healthcare.
The man, Cameron, drove me to the chemist where I bought a proper ankle brace and some ibuprofen, and then he drove me to my hostel.
The next day, I had planned to go back to K2 since the Stockholm trip was supposed to be all about climbing, but obviously, climbing would not have been the best thing. I tried to just walk around the neighborhood for a bit, but I got super bored (and then lost my FitBit...) and decided just to go to Klattercentret again.
Since I had taken 800mg of ibuprofen (pretty much the maximum for somebody of my size), I wasn’t feeling much pain in the ankle and decided to do some stretching and easy boulder problems. On Saturday (first day), I climbed some 6A’s-6B+’s and struggled on the 6B+ routes, and I found myself climbing (even flashing) 6B’s with the nonfunctional left ankle! That was actually incredibly encouraging because, while it forced me to climb differently than normal, it showed me that I am actually stronger than I had thought before the ankle injury. (In retrospect, I should not have climbed on Sunday. I am just so stubborn and thought that I should go to K2 because that was the purpose of the trip).
That is probably the most silver-lining aspect of the injury. I mean, of course, I am frustrated by being immobilised now (more on that below), but I know I’m strong. Once I heal from this torn ligament, I will push myself to climb harder because I know I am stronger. I know I can.
If you’ve invested in climbing much, then you probably have found that half of it is a mental game; once you change your mindset from “I can’t” to “I can, and I will,” everything becomes easier. If I can flash a few 6B’s with a torn ankle ligament, then I can surely do better than 6B+’s with completely functional limbs. 6C’s, maybe 6C+’s? Not out of the question.
I just need to heal.
The healing process frustrates me. Well, being injured in the first place frustrates the hell out of me because I was so set on being committed to climbing and to training properly--3-4 times a week for a handful of hours at a time. I just thought that, this time, I would make climbing my long-term hobby and personal investment. It still will be, but to have ruined my ankle just two months into it just sucks.
I’m also just an incredibly impatient person; I’m very Type A in that I like to plan, like to execute, and like to be efficient and productive. Simply sitting around and waiting for my ligament to heal is so inefficient. There’s nothing that I can do about it, and, being the active person that I am, that doesn’t work for me.
The thoughts that have run through my mind since the injury have varied so much--from anger to self-pity, from frustration to gratefulness (grateful that it wasn’t worse, to be honest). I’ve had a surprisingly positive attitude towards this recent immobility and slowness, but that’s most likely because I found myself able to flash 6B’s with a shit ankle (and because I met Hannes, Norea, Frederik, and Samuel from Eric Karlsson’s bouldering channel on YouTube - pics below!).
What also really sucks is that I was just starting to make friends with the regulars at the Arch. I met Imralis there, and he’s pretty much my closest friend in London now. Then there’s Matt, Rachel, Soy, Finn, Bolique, Clint, Tom, Hal, AJ, Frank, Jamie from New York, Jamie the employee, etc... The climbing community is generally really friendly and supportive; we all want each other to succeed in our projects, and we can all challenge each other too. I was so happy to have found that since I’ve largely been depressingly lonely in my months in London, and now, I’m just pissed that I don’t know if I can go back to Arch at all.
I was going to renew my climbing membership to the Arch, but that’s a no-go. Whether or not I even return after the next 4-8 weeks of healing depends on how long I stay in London which depends on a job (and that’s another depressing topic). As I said before, I really like the people that I’ve met through climbing, and I would be so upset to not see them again. (“Upset” doesn’t accurately capture how purely disappointed I am currently, knowing that I’ll be out for another couple of months at the least.)
This is getting ramble-y, but now that I have hours to process what I’ve been feeling for a couple of days--as I am just sitting in bed and waiting for my crutches to be delivered tomorrow--I’m finally starting to figure out a plan of action for healing and regaining strength (i.e. physical therapy).
In a week, the acute injury (swelling, sharp pains) should be decently-healed especially if I completely stop walking on it (hence, crutches coming in tomorrow. I know I need to stop walking on it because, even though pain is minimal, the swelling has increased due to activity). Then, Sasha is going to be in town, and we’re going to travel to Paris, Antwerp, and Berlin (that should be interesting with crutches). I’m just hoping that I’m moving a bit more quickly by then so that I’m not an inconvenience and so that I can actually see more, do more, etc.
All in all, I just have mixed feelings about this situation. Though encouraged about my strength, I reckon that the disappointment and frustration outweigh the positive feelings. And because I tend to be an “independent woman,” I hate asking for help, but I would really, really like it if you would encourage me in this time. I accept prayer, hugs, and food. I would accept most manifestations of support, to be fair. Flowers. High-fives. Pitiful smiles. Pizza. Socks. Pictures of cats. Memes. Nearly anything.
Anyway, here are some pictures from my day and a half in Stockholm!
