I love how different the two most prominent Vastards relationship with their entity is.

The Vast is Simon Fairchild’s CALLING, he LOVES it. Simon is the Vasts special little boy, he has been around for hundreds of years dedicating himself to this entity. His entire him is hingant on the vast and he seems to spend most his time going around and harvesting fear for it, Simon Fairchild and the Vast are inextricably linked eternally. He owes the Vast his everything and intends to give it to it.

This became nearly ten paragraphs of Rita lore yapping and I decided that was cruel to you so I will put this in the shortest way i possibly can: Rita’s parents are prolific con-artists in the Wizarding World and she learned most of her tricks from them. They had to move around a lot due to the nature of their careers (?) and frequently changed identities with each new scam. They settled down once Rita started school. She has a positive relationship with both of them, but is close with her mother in-particular. She’s biracial and specifically a second-generation Bajan immigrant. Rita is a Slytherin (to me!!) and she was a very popular mean girl at her school, mostly specializing in backstabbing. She discovered her love of writing in her school newspaper.

She began transition at eight years old and was stealth her entire life. If anyone in her world found out, it could ruin her life and career. Not even Bellatrix knew about it and it was only found out after her death in that aforementioned tell-all memoir. She took a potion that acted as HRT and got a hold of a Transfiguration spell at 21 that changed her external sex characteristics. Also she’s pansexual!

For most of her 20s, she was not successful and lived off little money in shitty flats. She only didn’t get fired from her first journalism gig because her article about a Lestrange party gained some traction. She met Bellatrix there and they have an off and on affair for 27 years. Rita only hits it big when she’s 29 with her LONG expose abt the Lestranges and Barty and the subsequent court proceedings and by then she has to accept the fact she needs to give up on any big dreams of being a “serious” writer. Because, frankly, she’s a bad to mediocre journalist but an excellent gossip columnist. And that’s pretty much what kicks off her extremely morally dubious, editorialized reign of terror at the Daily Prophet.
