Little fun fact about Yun-Jin actually: honestly I headcanon her as having a fair few casual boyfriends (and girlfriends, because I say so) before, but she is definitely unaccustomed to real affection.
So, of course, she kind of ends up clinging to Mira and soaking up any affection she’s willing to give.
#yun jin tag tbd#she’ll never say it but mira is the best girlfriend she’s ever had#…well maybe she will if pressed hard enough

Could we please get some relationship headcanons for Erza, Juvia and Mirajane?
of course! it's been a while since i've consumed any fairy tail material, so bear with me :) i hope you enjoy! thank you for requesting. cheers <3
(continued under the cut)
ERZA SCARLET
- out of all three girls, i think erza is the most confusing, in that she acts like a completely different person around you.
- you can still see traits like her bravery and loyalty, but other things like her natural charisma and general calmness go flying out the window the moment she sees you smile. add physical affection and words of affirmation into the mix, and she’s putty in your hands.
- i don’t think erza is the type of person to care about magic combability or the like. what matters is how well the two of you work as a team--and since you two are dating, well, you’ve obviously got all the boxes checked off.
- she takes you out on jobs with her whenever she gets the chance. she doesn’t mind bringing you on more dangerous missions because she knows that you can protect yourself and she can protect you. if you’re not available for a job, she’ll take it with obvious reluctance and maybe a little sulking when she’s alone.
- but jobs and the like take no priority over being with you. she adores going on dates and loves spoiling you, whether it be with an outing to a five star restaurant, or a new piece of clothing that you had been eyeing for a long time.
- at the end of the day, although she’s ambitious and maybe a bit of a workaholic, she loves you more than anything else in the world. (even strawberry cake.)
-
JUVIA LOCKSER
- what else can i say except that she would be the most doting and devoted girlfriend ever?
- juvia's main source of happiness will always be your happiness. this comes at a price (she often prioritizes your well-being over hers, which has ended up with a few fainting scares and perhaps a near-death experience or two), but over time she learns to balance it out because she knows how much it terrifies you.
- this balance, however, is not hard to strike during missions. she absolutely loves watching you fight, and loves the way you sync up with her during battles. prepare for lots of hugs and face kisses when the mission is done!
- speaking of physical affection, that's how she expresses her love to you, alongside outpourings of "i love you!" no matter the occasion. after long days, she loves nothing more than cuddling with you on the couch...or in the guild hall...or really anywhere you're comfortable.
- she never forgets anything important, which might be a daunting thing to return considering she remembers things like your first kiss down to the minute, but she doesn't mind if you slip up and forget one of those tiny anniversaries. just don't miss out on your yearly anniversaries, otherwise you might have a rainy juvia on your hands!
- all in all, juvia thinks you're the best thing that ever happened to her.
-
MIRAJANE STRAUSS
- funnily enough, i think mirajane would be the closest to a "proper" relationship out of the three girls on this list.
- before she got her powers back, the guild hall was where the two of you spent most of your time. in the mornings, she'd have a hot plate of breakfast and a new mission ready for you before anyone else. in the evenings, she'd wait for you with a freshly cooked dinner and arms open and ready for hugging.
- she frets a lot over you. be prepared for simple acts of affection like brushing lint off your clothing, wiping your mouth with a napkin after meals, and pressing kisses to new injuries. it garners a lot of teasing from your guildmates, but mirajane couldn't care less (not to mention it's quite easy to silence them by fake-crying!)
- when she gets her powers back, although she usually can't go on jobs with you, she does enjoy sparring with you. it's a simple way to keep both of you on your toes. showering together and cuddles on the couch afterward end up becoming one of her favorite things.
- mirajane doesn't get tongue-twisted around you easily. instead, there's a lot of blushing and nervous laughter. still, she's always ready to make you smile with cheesy pick-up lines and simple, quiet, and genuine declarations of love.
- if you ever need her, she's always ready to drop everything (literally and physically) and come to your side without delay.

Song of the Dark Crystal liveblog pt 6
Song of the Dark Crystal by J.M. Lee because the quest is back on!
Last time in book: Kylan and Naia have joined forces with Rian to overthrow the Skeksis. Unfortunately, Kylan has also been declared a traitor by the Skeksis. The three decide to leave Stone-in-the-Wood immediately and pursue separate plans. Rian will go to the All-Maudra with the vial of Mira goo. Kylan and Naia will go find Aughra and try to alert all Gelflings to what the Skeksis are doing.
Chapter 6
The heroes make their way through the forest to the Black River. Kylan sings a Jarra-Jen story that gets Rian to open up.
The gang... is there a catchy name for the protagonists? Kylan’s crew? Anyway, they’re leaving Stone-in-the-Wood in the dark of the night because at least 2 out of 3 and probably 3 out of 3 are fugitives.
But more importantly:
“Best wishes!” Mythra said. “When I’m big, I’ll come and join you. I fear no lying Skeksis!”
Mythra is too powerful!
“Once you’re big enough to not be eaten in one gulp. Then I’ll welcome you.”
It was the first playful thing Kylan had heard the soldier say, and it was endearing.
It really is!
I love the dynamic between Rian and Mythra.
The three set off in RPG formation: Rian in the front, squishy Kylan in the middle, and Naia in the back. Kylan, in Kylan fashion, feels bad and tells himself he brings value to the party somehow, even if he doesn’t know how.
Best boy Kylan, you’re the best boy. But also: you came up with a great third option between Rian and Naia’s position last chapter. That’s something!
The group also starts discussing whether the Skeksis have been preying on the Gelfling for a long time. Kylan brings up the census, how the Skeksis come twice a year to record the number of Gelfling. Rian even darkly calls it a harvest.
“We count the peach-berry trees every spring, and pluck half the blossoms so they bloom in the summer. That way we know they will all bear fruit, and how many. Mother Aughra taught the Gelfling these things long ago, and we’ve performed the counting and plucking every year since the Age of Innocence... and yet we couldn’t see that the Skeksis were doing the same to our people in front of our very eyes.”
Naia said, “You’ve given this a lot of thought.”
“I’ve had a lot of time to consider.”
They wonder whether the Skeksis perform the census with the Dousan and the Grottan. Rian says that he’s only ever seen a single Dousan guard at the Castle and none from the Caves of Grot. He speculates that the Skeksis may have finished them off long ago without any one noticing.
Grim.
Kylan can’t help but contrast this grim Rian with the sentimental, kind Rian he saw in the dreamfast and also in his interactions with Mythra and Shoni.
Guy’s been through so much.
But Kylan has an idea! STORY TIME. Of course about Jarra-Jen, obvs.
Naia: “I could use a break from the stories of our real life.”
Mood.
Many songs of our lightning-born hero are known
From courage and cleverness are these stories grown
But no song is filled with such heartache and yen
As this one of the Dew-Tree and brave Jarra-Jen
Kylan sings the song of Jarra-Jen’s cool girlfriend Amiris of Darkwood, the Singer of Dew. She apparently personally applies the dew to every blade of grass, which is impressive.
Also, she had green hair. The Gelfling are anime people in this continuity apparently.
“Jarra-Jen loved Amiris, as a singer loves song” which is a good line. And they danced every night. They had a really good relationship.
Then Kaul, the Dark King of Sand, ruined the mood by Ganondorfing all over the happy times.
He kidnapped Amiris and took her to the dunes and demanded she make the desert green like Hyrule. Perhaps unsurprisingly, she couldn’t? Because of climate?
But Kaul was a dick about it.
So the King, at her failure, grew wrathful in spite
He took her out in the desert, upon sands hot and white
There he punished her, holding her face to the suns
“If I can’t have the Garden, then neither will no-one.”
Cool rhyme though.
On the fourth morning, Jarra-Jen finally found her but too late. ‘She wanted to cry but the tears had been burned out of her eyes’ amount of too late. She dying.
So she makes a magic seed pop out of her chest, as ya do.
Jarra-Jen pleaded and begged, cried for her not to go
She put the seed in his hand, bade him help it to grow
Then she melted to stardust. The wind took her away
Jarra-Jen left with the seedling on his loneliest day.
Dang, that’s sad.
Don’t you hate it when your gf melts into stardust after staring into the suns too long?
Jarra-Jen plants the seed like Amiris asked but it won’t grow because this is still the desert.
He called to the earth. He called to the sky
But nobody answered. The dew-seed would die
With no other hope, Jarra-Jen fell to his knees
And wept...
Bursting forth from the sands came an enormous tree
Brown of skin, strong of branch, and emerald of leaf
Its roots rippled the earth, its crown brushed the sky
And Jarra-Jen poured forth every last tear he could cry
I feeeeel like salt water wouldn’t be great for growing a tree but Jarra-Jen is a folk legend. This kind of thing is just what they do.
Anyway, Kylan finishes up the song. And I feel like this is the origin story of whatever the Patron Tree of the Dousan are. Huge magic tree in desert? Gotta be.
Naia helpfully tells the moral of the story to the audience. I mean, this is YA. And also, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t appreciate the cliff notes.
“I liked it,” she said. “I think it’s a good lesson... We will always face hard times, but it’s important to remember that our sadness can often be what becomes our strength. There’s no weakness in sorrow or grief.”
Rian says nothing about the story but he sniffs and wipes his cheek. He was moved.
Good song-telling, song-teller Kylan.
And what good timing, he finished the story right as they reach the Black River and it’s time to split up.
Hm. Earlier I joked about Naia having to go to Ha’rar after all the detours last book so its funny to me that she’s still not going. I wonder if she’ll ever go to Ha’rar.
Anyway, Rian gives them directions for how to find Aughra’s house from here.
Realizing that they may never see Rian again if something goes wrong, Kylan tells him that he’s not alone and “we may be strangers by blood, but we’re family in arms.”
Rian softens for them.
“I miss Gurjin and the others very much,” Rian confessed. “I don’t want to put anyone else in danger. Every night I dream of the Skeksis hunting me, killing anyone nearby. Gurjin, Mira, Mythra, Timtri, my mother... The only way I can rest is if I’m alone. Once the All-Maudra has been told, maybe I will stop looking over my shoulder, but until then... I couldn’t see you in danger when Gurjin died to protect us.”
=(
“I do trust you both, though. As I trusted Gurjin. I only fear that my sorrow will not be enough to grow anything.”
“Only if it’s salted with remorse,” Kylan said. “Good journey to you, Rian. We’ll meet again in Ha’rar, with help from Mother Aughra and stories of our adventures on the High Hill.”
=]
Rian floats away in a boat and with his last words as he disappears into the shadow warns Kylan and Naia to stay away from finger vines. Whatever those are!
After Rian disappears along the river and the other two Gelfling prepare a second boat, Naia compliments how on the nose the story choice was.
“That song of Jarra-Jen was really something,” Naia said ... “I think it really moved him. I wouldn’t mind meeting the song teller who wrote it. The song that soothed the soul of the boy who first saw the Skeksis betrayal!”
“You don’t have to wait to meet that song teller,” he said. “You already did, in Sami Thicket, when he was running away from home.”
“When he was...” Naia coughed in surprise as she put one and one together. Then she crowed with laughter. “You devil! You made it up just for Rian?”
AMAZING.
Kylan figured Rian wouldn’t listen if Kylan just straight up said the stuff about sorrow growing good things so he wrapped it in a story HE MADE UP ON THE SPOT INCLUDING RHYMES and sang it!
What a good song-teller.
And Rian thought wow this ancient story about a cultural folk hero hits me where I live.
Amazing.
I hope Rian passes that off as a real Jarra-Jen story and it gets spread around and becomes part of the accepted canon of Jarra-Jen adventures.
I wonder if there was already an Amiris and a story linking Jarra-Jen to the Patron Tree in the desert. How much Kylan was able to pick up from other stories to make his seem more legit.
“I don’t regret it one bit, Song Teller,” Naia said, as the opposite bank came into view in the dark. “Taking you along. I would have been a fool not to. I hope you know this as I know it.”
It was possibly the sweetest thing she’d ever said to him, and Kylan finally let out the smile he’d been holding back.
BEST FRIENDS.

The TDC fix-it fic
Here you all go. Bc my queens got done dirty so I’m giving them a happy ending. Comments are always welcome.
Et Post Ver Semper
He had to admit that there was something awfully gorgeous about Arsinoe in a dress. Especially as it flared around her calves while she spun through the room with her sister in her arms, both of them laughing like fools and drawing the attention of everyone in the room, himself especially to the bright smile lifting Arsinoe’s face.
The dress she wore was green and had flowers patterned around the hem of the skirt and the seam connecting the bodice and the skirt. She had made it herself and she truly did look like perfection. Like a queen of spring, what with the flower crown a small child at the festival had given her. The spring equinox always bought the best out of people and it was his favourite celebration. Which is why he had bought them all along. The sun had set and the lanterns had been lit and somehow, Arsinoe, Kat and Mirabella were still dancing.
“You know staring at them is weird, right?” He took the offered beer from Pietyr’s hand as the blonde threw himself into the seat beside, sweat slightly beading on his forehead.
“Kat dragged you up for a dance?” Pietyr didn’t answer, but Billy had a feeling it was more because he was focussing on not letting a smile on his face than anything. Pietyr was still trying not to let any of the people he lived with in on the fact that he was actually enjoying not being on Fennbirn, even though they could all see it.
“She did. But apparently I’m no fun,” Pietyr was obviously right as Kat had now joined Arsinoe and Mira as they danced in circles, holding each other tight as they moved to the quick music.
The next person to join them at the table was Elizabeth, who promptly took a sip from the beer that Billy had yet to start. Billy had to admit that she too looked freer on the Mainland, instead of being swamped by priestess robes. Tonight, she wore a midnight blue dress with sleeves to her forearms, another of Arsinoe’s creations and she did look pretty enough that Billy had seen many men eyeing her off. It was no worry, Pietyr and him could step in if need be. Both had grown quite fond of Mira’s girlfriend, as thrown as they were when Elizabeth had ran after their ship when it left Indrid Down solely to confess her love for the eldest triplet.
Mira had asked her to come along and that was that.
“They look so happy out there, don’t they?” Both men nodded absentmindedly. “Billy, are you ever actually going to do anything with the ring in your pocket?” That bought their attention to her, a blush rising on the back of Billy’s neck.
“When we’re ready,” is all he could say, drawing a scoff from Pietyr. “Don’t scoff. Things are fantastic between us, but the girls are still setting their business up and I’m still at university. It isn’t the right time.”
“Didn’t stop me,” Pietyr said, sipping his beer with his trademark smug look on his face. He was correct. Any men who thought they could make a pass at Kat tonight had been stopped by the giant diamond ring on her finger. Billy pushed his shoulder.
“You got a job as soon as you got here and Kat doesn’t spend all day sewing dresses. One of which, by the way, is your fiancee’s wedding dress.”
“Alright, you two, we don’t need another honey versus maple syrup incident. I only asked because eventually, Arsinoe will notice that you’re carrying around a ring and she’ll have to put you out of your misery instead of you asking her,” Elizabeth placated, her gentle voice soothing stray tempers.
“Apologies, Chatworth. I just think you need to ask her sooner rather than later.”
“Noted, Arron.” The music changed tempo, slowing down, so he took a swig of his beer, stood and approached her with every intention of taking her spinning, but their conversation played on his mind.
~
“Kitty?” Kat hummed in assent, her face buried in a records book, a pencil twirling between her pale and nimble fingers. “Do you think Chatworth will propose to your sister before Christmas this year?” Not even that was enough to pull her head from the book.
“Unlikely, darling. Why do you ask?”
“Both of them are antsy about it yet neither does anything about it. It’ll be messy if it comes to blows-“
“Which it won’t,” Kat lowers the book and takes his hand. “All will be well between them, they know each other too well for either of them to upset the other. They just are taking their time and they work well. It almost seems like you are more impatient than either of them.”
“Yes, obviously. Both are so obnoxiously patient. It’s like they do it on purpose.”
“You are only impatient because you said Christmas in the betting pool.” Pietyr scoffs but still lays his head on her shoulder, his blonde hair mixing with her black. She strokes his hair absently.
“How do you know that? The rules say we can’t tell each other our bets.”
“Because I know all of the things that happen in this house darling. And I know you.”
“Yeah, you knowing me is an issue. I aim to be unknowable,” Kat scoffed at him and picked her book back up.
“I’m marrying you, so maybe don’t try to be so unknowable with me,” he laid a kiss on her shoulder.
“Never, Kitty Kat,” she rolled her eyes at the nickname and kissed him, her book forgotten.
~
“I’m glad we got to go out tonight. It was nice to see you in your element,” Elizabeth said as she sat at her makeup table. Mirabella ran her finger’s through Elizabeth’s hair before gently beginning to plait it, her gentle hands sure through the strands. “That dress you were wearing was awfully pretty tonight, did you design it?” Mira smiled at her.
“I designed yours too,” she tied the plait off and started on the second one. “And you looked beautiful, if I do say so myself. What kind of trouble did you and the boys get into while we were dancing tonight?”
“Eh, they nearly got into an argument about when Billy would propose which I had to stop myself from joining in on but other than that it was a surprisingly low amount of trouble tonight,” Mira couldn’t help but smile softly. She knew that Pietyr, Kat and her own Elizabeth were growing impatient, but Mira had bet for next December, so she wasn’t worried. She seemed to be the most likely to win the pool.
“You know the rules say no coercion, right?”
“Pietyr started it. I followed the rules,” Mira chuckled and leaned down to kiss Elizabeth’s brow, tying her hair at the same time.
The chaste moment was cut off with a thud against the wall and a giggle from the other room.
“Sounds like Kat and Pietyr don’t want to let the night end,” Elizabeth chuckled as she stood and walked over to their bed, turning the covers back and hopping in.
“Who decided that we had to be the ones who share the wall?” Elizabeth laughed and gestured for Mira to join her. Mira bid her so, sinking into the bed in between Elizabeth’s legs.
“Hate to inform you, darling, but you did.”
“Ah and what a fool I am.” They giggled and Mira turned them so she could hold Liz as they fell asleep.
~
“I’m never dancing again, junior. I’m not skilled enough at shoe making to make comfy shoes,” Arsinoe groaned as she sprawled out on the bed, her short hair haloing around her head on the soft green pillow case. She flexed her sock clad feet and let out a breath. She heard him chuckle from the ensuite and then his steady gait across the carpet.
He pulled her to stand up by her hands and rubbed her shoulders softly, putting a kiss in her hair.
“It was your choice to dance the night away, A. Have you brushed your teeth?” Arsinoe groaned and leaned against him, her head against his chest.
“Do I have to?”
“Yes.”
“Fine,” she staggered past him. He chuckled at her reaction and climbed into bed, picking up his law textbook and pretending to read it, instead listening to the routine sounds of her brushing her teeth. Also known as her trying to hum a tune around the brush in her mouth. It made him smile.
The water ran and she came out of the ensuite a moment later, her hands in her pyjama pockets. She padded over and hopped up onto her side of their bed.
“You left this in the bathroom,” she pulled a velvet ring box out of her pocket and tossed it to him. His face fell.
“You didn’t look in it?”
“My contacts dried out and I didn’t have my glasses on. I assumed it wasn’t my business,” she shrugged and he rolled his eyes at her, reaching over and grabbing her chunky glasses from the bedside table. She took them and put them on, relieving the squint she had been using to focus. He shoved the ring box into her hands and she shot him a weird look before looking at the box’s contents.
She went perfectly still.
“Just so you know, it is a 100 percent yes, but now everyone has to give Pietyr 100 bucks each,” she easily slipped the ring onto her finger and grabbed his hand.
“What?”
“Our housemates were betting on when you were going to propose, which is what I assume this is. Kat got knocked out last year and Elizabeth a couple of weeks ago, it was just Piet and Mira. And unless you feel like hiding this until after Christmas, Pietyr won,” Billy let his head fall back against the head board, trying not to let his heart turn to goo at the bright, shining smile on Arsinoe’s face.
“I’m going to kill them,” Arsinoe laughed, before moving to straddle him.
“Tomorrow, Junior,” she kissed him and he melted.

Winter Warmth ch 12 - Natsu’s Quest
Ao3 link to the full fic (with intended formatting)- https://archiveofourown.org/works/11603859/chapters/26084934 (Jeez I am on a ROLL this weekend with writing.) Wanted. One wizard to help with a desperate situation. A golden gate key and five hundred thousand jewels are your reward.
Desperate situation? Natsu had no idea what that could mean. He really didn't care. All he was concerned about was finishing the job, collecting the reward, and getting back home.
It turned out that "desperate" was subject to interpretation.
"You want me to get rid of all the dead plants in your yard?"
"Young man this is not a yard; it's a garden."
Grrrr.
"Okay, my bad. So you want me to get rid of of the dead plants in the garden."
"That is correct. I simply cannot host my candlelit garden dinners when my garden is overflowing with dead filth. What would the chancellor say?"
Natsu had no idea what the chancellor would say, nor did he really care. He wasn't about to say that out loud, though.
Do it for Lucy. That thought is what motivated him that entire afternoon.
It kept him from swearing up a storm as a thorny vine slashed his hand.
It kept him focused on getting this ridiculous job done.
And honestly it kept him from just burning the entire yard (garden) to a crisp out of frustration.
Only love could get Natsu to do such a tedious job. His entire plan depended on getting it finished to the rich lady's satisfaction.
Sure, he did burn away some pesky brambles that wouldn't budge otherwise, but the woman didn't seem to mind. He ignored the obvious sneer as she took in his muddy clothes and soot streaked face.
Clearly she noticed the way his eyes lit up when she gave him the money and the key.
"Might I ask why you wanted this drab little thing?"
"My girlfriend's a celestial witch. Best in Fiore." Proud grin, flashing fangs.
"Oh, the Heartfilia girl? Good family. Despite your horrendous fashion sense you seem to have some taste. Good day." Another sneer as she closed her door, leaving Natsu and Happy free to leave.
"Sheesh, what a snob. Why are some people like that?"
"I dunno. Guess they think being rich makes the world spin around 'em." Shrug. He smirked.
"Good thing Lucy's not like that."
"Anymore!"
The cat chuckled. Natsu was tempted to lash out, but Happy was right. She had been a little brat at first...thankfully she had grown up a lot since then. Grown into the strong mage he knew and loved.
They both had grown quite a bit, in fact.
The thought made him smile.
After lunch the pair focused on the other component of the trip: picking out a ring for Lucy. Truthfully, Natsu wasn't really worried about the price. He only wanted to find something that would suit her. Playful and fun rather than extravagant, with a touch of elegance.
That was easier said than done.
This town had an entire row of jewelry shops, each with what seemed like millions of rings to choose from. He spent what seemed like hours looking and growing increasingly irritated when Happy chimed in with an idea.
"Why don't you ask Mira?"
"Because I didn't think about it, that's why, buddy." He ruffled the exceed's fur, pulled out his lacrima, and called Mira.
Of course, as fate would have it, something caught his attention just as she answered.
"Natsu? What's up? Is everything alright?"
"Everything's great. I think I found the perfect ring."
"Ooooo! I want to see!"
"Huh? How?"
"Oh, tap the camera button."
"Okay..." Tap. The screen changed to display the counter in front of him. He moved his hand a bit so that the ring in question was plainly visible. “Is it the one with the blue stones?” “Yeah...think she’ll like it?” Natsu blushed, suddenly feeling shy. Mira squealed.
“Of course she will! You got the key, right?”
“I got it. Still can’t believe Aquarius’s key ended up in the hands of some crazy rich lady...” “What matters is that you have it, and you’re giving it to Lucy. Now, buy the ring and hurry back home, alright?!”
He could have sworn he caught a glimpse of she-devil in her eyes. Gulp. “Yes, ma’am.”
“And don’t forget to call Lucy tonight!”
Blip.
The call ended before Natsu could retort that he would never forget something that important.
Some time later…
Dragon slayer and exceed were lounging around next to their tent and a roaring fire. They had just eaten dinner and now Natsu was contemplating when to call Lucy.
And of course Happy was egging him on.
“What are you waiting for? I know you loooooooove her.”
“Duh. Everyone knows that by now. What if she’s busy writing?”
“Like that’s ever stopped ya before!”
Natsu grinned at that.
“I guess you’re right, buddy.”
Mere moments later the lovebirds were chatting away quite happily. Lucy had indeed been writing her novel for most of the day, so Natsu’s call was a welcome break.
It was a long conversation. They talked about her writing, how her latest novel was going. As he did so very often, he encouraged her.
They talked about the job. Lucy had a good hearty laugh at Natsu’s impression of the stuffy rich lady.
Then they talked about the goings-on at the guild. He listened to this intently. He would never admit it but truth be told he felt a bit lonely, even with Happy traveling with him.
“I wanna show you somethin’.”
“Huh? What?”
“Look...” He switched on the lacrima’s camera and pointed it at the night sky, so clear and full of stars. “It ain’t Stella but it’s still pretty cool.”
“It’s beautiful. Thanks, Natsu.”
“No problem. Wish you were here.” His voice softened with those last four words. Well, if it wasn’t for the big surprise, he would have brought her along…
“Could we watch it together?”
“Sure.” Anything for her, especially if it made her smile. He lay in the grass with the lacrima on his chest, gazing up at the sky with his girl. It wasn’t hard at all to imagine her laying next to him as she pointed out constellations and planets.
Immeasurable time passed. At long last Lucy’s voice caught his attention.
“I should go. We both need to get some sleep.”
“Yeah, guess you’re right.” Yawn, stretch. “Sweet dreams, babygirl.”
Shit… He had NOT meant to call her that. Not out loud. Shit, shit, shit! No mistake, the slayer’s face was hot with blush.
“Babygirl…? I think I like that...”
“Y-you do?” Gulp.
“Yeah. It’s sweet.” Soft giggle. “Night, Natsu. See you tomorrow night.” Right as the call ended he heard something, three words someone without dragon slayer hearing might very well have missed. These three words touched his heart and made him want to get home to see his girlfriend as soon as possible.
“I love you.” ~~ Natsu and Happy were on the road early the next morning. They had a long way to go still and Natsu was determined to get back to Magnolia before nightfall.
They almost didn’t make it in time. About halfway home, walking along a river, they were attacked by a rather aggressive river monster.
Thankfully the beast was sent packing, or, well, swimming, with a well-placed Fire Dragon Iron Fist.
Back in Magnolia, Natsu stopped at their cottage first. This was mostly because he wasn’t about to meet up with Lucy looking and smelling like three days of travel. He washed up, got dressed, and listened to Happy giving him all kinds of hell about supposedly being whipped the whole time.
“Whatever, buddy. You’ll understand when you’re older.” Said with a chuckle. That was when Natsu took a long look at his reflection.
His hair had grown out a little. Nothing like the wild mess it had been after his year of training, but long enough to notice.
The stubble on his cheek was new. The entire look was scruffy yet mature. He decided that he liked it… and privately hoped Lucy would, too.
Lucy…
Thinking about her, especially their pending reunion, made the dragon slayer smile.
That smile remained on his face as he ran back to the guild hall with Happy clinging to his shoulder.
Soon…Soon!

Natsu arrived at the guild early the next morning grabbing the first job he saw that sounded like it would be far away and would give him the biggest chance to fight monsters. He didn’t bother to look at any of the details. His mind was still reeling from the events of the night before. He wanted to get away from any chance of possibly running into Gray for the foreseeable future. At least until he could figure out what the hell was happening.
He showed Mira the request, waiting to be given approval and immediately scowling when it wasn’t forthcoming.
“I can’t let you take this job alone,” Mira protested, “It’s too dangerous, I’d feel more comfortable if you took someone like Gray with you.”
“Hell no!” Natsu crossed his arms in front of his chest, “I don’t need that stripper’s help.”
“Well if not him, then Lucy or Erza.” Mira insisted.
“I’ll go,” Both mages jumped surprised to hear Loke offer to go on a job.
“Loke?” Mira studied the Celestial Spirit carefully, “Doesn’t Lucy need you?”
“She’ll be fine without me for a day or two,” Loke waved away Mira’s protests, “Besides, I’m still a Fairy Tail wizard and I haven’t gone on a job in ages. So how about it, matchstick?”
Natsu couldn’t really understand why Loke would want to come along, they’d never been particularly close but he was a good fighter and if he had an ulterior motive Natsu couldn’t think of what it was. He relaxed and decided he didn’t care as long as he could get out of Magnolia before Gray got to the guild. “Suit yourself.”
“I guess it’s alright as long as Natsu is fine with it,” Mira agreed grudgingly, not entirely sure what Loke might be up to, but seeing no good reason to deny his request.
“Great!” Loke cheered and as they began to walk out of the guild he asked, “Isn’t Happy coming along?”
“No, I’d been hoping to go alone.”
“I see,” Loke smiled internally, having a good idea what was bothering the dragon slayer but knowing better than to bring it up too soon, “Something on your mind?”
“I don’t want to talk about it,” Natsu snapped.
“Where are we going anyway?” Loke asked and Natsu showed him the job request.
They made their way towards the train station, Natsu itching for a fight and Loke being annoyingly agreeable.

Gray woke up nursing the worst hangover he’d ever experienced in his life. All he’d done was move his head and now his stomach was rebelling and his mouth felt like it was covered in sand. But that was nothing compared to the feeling that someone was stabbing his head with a knife. He sat up slowly, cradling his head between his hands. He couldn’t stop himself from groaning out loud.
“Not feeling so good, huh?” Cana shoved a glass in his face that smelled surprisingly of the thing that got him there.
“No more vodka,” Gray groaned again as he shoved the glass away from his nose, “How can you be drinking already?”
“The best way to get over a hangover,” Cana shrugged, drinking the contents of the glass when Gray refused it again.
“I need to go find Natsu,” Gray moaned as he got up from his couch where it appeared he had passed out the previous night.
“I wasn’t expecting you to be so eager,” Cana mused, watching him with slight concern.
“I’m not, I just want him to knock me out so I don’t have to feel like this any longer.”
Cana chuckled, “Let’s get you some food and then we can figure out what you should do.”
“I already feel sick, don’t you think it’s cruel to feed me your gruel?”
“Oy! I know I should be insulted but you’re probably right,” Cana mused good-naturedly, “Are you up to going to the guild?”
Gray sighed, “I’m going to have to go there eventually. Let me just take a shower.”
Twenty minutes later Cana and Gray left his apartment and headed for the Fairy Tail Guild.

“So Gray kissed you last night, huh?” Loke had waited until the train had already started moving to bring up the topic, knowing Natsu would be at his most vulnerable.
The smirk on his face was enough to make Natsu want to punch him into next week but he was too weak from motion sickness to do so, so he attacked the only way he was able. He emptied the contents of his stomach all over Loke’s impeccable suit, wiping the smirk off the Celestial Spirit’s face and replacing it with a look of disgust.
“You could have just said you didn’t want to talk about it you know,” Loke complained, frustrated when Natsu remained silent, although he could have sworn the fire mage was smiling in between moans.

“How are you feeling, Gray?” Mira asked as she watched the ice mage sit on a stool wearing sunglasses.
“I may never drink again,” Gray replied seriously.
“Well here’s some ice water, I’ll go make you some breakfast.”
Gray thanked her and looked around the guild to see who was around. He saw no sign of any of his teammates and as much as he didn’t want to appear desperate he also really needed to know how Natsu was doing so when Mira returned with his food he had to ask.
“So, uhm, by any chance has Natsu been by this morning?” He asked as nonchalantly as he could manage.
“Natsu?” Mira grinned knowingly, “Oh yes, he went off on a job with Loke.”
“That’s a funny way to say Lucy, for a moment there I thought you said Loke,” Gray laughed uncomfortably, hoping against hope that he’d heard Mira wrong.
“That’s because I did say Loke,” Mira smiled up at him, innocence in her smile but a devilish glint shining in her eyes.
“Huh. Hey Mira?” Gray lay his head down on the bar knowing that if things hadn’t been bad before he was now truly and completely fucked, “Can I go ahead and have a drink now?”
Mira tried to stifle a laugh as she and Cana shared a knowing look. She poured Gray a drink and handed it over and he downed it quickly. He was about to order another when he heard the door burst open as Erza walked in screaming his name.
His headache protested but he knew better than to say anything, he just waved at his red-headed friend. She immediately charged in his direction.
“Did you defile Natsu in the guild last night?” Erza demanded loudly.
“What?! Of course not!” Gray yelled out in indignation, quickly looking to make sure no one was around before whimpering as his head throbbed, “Who the hell told you that?”
“It’s all over Fairy Hills.” Erza explained, “Juvia won’t leave her room, I left Lucy with her to try to calm her down.”
Oh yes, this day was just getting better and better.
“Well, then what did happen?” Erza stood over him, the intensity of her glare not even remotely dimmed through his sunglasses, her fingers twitched, itching to requip a weapon but attempting to exert self-control.
Gray looked down at the floor and mumbled nervously, ”I may have kissed him, and told him I was in love with him while incredibly drunk.”
Now Gray knew how protective Erza was of Natsu. She had taught him to read and write and since then she’d proclaimed herself his big sister much like Natsu had done to Wendy. Gray was fully expecting Erza to come at him when she learned he’d touched Natsu in any way that was not part of a fight, so he was surprised when she didn’t immediately attack him after his confession.
He waited as she studied him seriously before suddenly and quite unexpectedly erupting into loud guffaws quite unlike anything he’d heard from her before. After a few minutes spent holding her belly and wiping away tears, she finally calmed down.
“Are you done?” Gray, who had not found her reaction amusing in any way, groused at his friend.
“I’m sorry,” Erza replied not looking remorseful at all. “Well, how did he take it?”
“He turned away and ran out of the guild.”
“Well, you didn’t pick a great day for it, did you?,” Erza pointed out while ordering a slice of strawberry cake and motioning for Gray to follow her to their team’s table.
“I wasn’t exactly planning on it,” Gray snapped before softening his tone as he remembered who he was talking to, “It just sort of happened.”
“Take off those ridiculous glasses, it’s not that bright in here,” Erza grabbed the sunglasses off the bridge of his nose and placed them on the table before smiling at him. “That’s better.”
Mira came by with Erza’s cake and sat down next to Gray, while Cana sat on his other side, wine glass in hand. Gray found himself surrounded by three of the most terrifying women in the guild who seemed intent to either make fun of him or help him with his fledgling love life, he couldn’t quite make out which.
“Now tell us all about it,” Erza demanded, her tone bossy.
“You wouldn’t understand,” Gray muttered under his breath.
Mira put her hand over his and said kindly, “Try us, when did this start?”
“I don’t know, a while ago, but after Galuna I was sure.” Gray rubbed his temple trying to will his headache away. It was hard to have a serious conversation with the constant pounding in his head.
Erza smiled, “I guess I can see that, it was a very emotional time for the two of you. What are you planning to do about Juvia?”
“I can only handle one headache at a time, Erza.”
Cana snorted, “I think the more important question is what are you going to do now? Natsu is not exactly the easiest person to talk to about anything serious.”
Gray groaned, “Based on what Mira said he’s avoiding me, which means he doesn’t feel the same way.”
“You don’t know that for a fact,” Erza reminded him, “Natsu has a hard time with feelings, and July 7th is a hard day for him. You literally couldn’t have picked a worse day to hit him with this.”
“I’ve already told you,” Cana reminded him, “Give him time to figure it out, he might surprise you.”
“And Loke is probably trying to help your case as we speak,” Mira giggled into her hand.
“Loke?” Erza asked with interest.
“He went out on a job with Natsu,” Mira informed her girlfriend.
Erza tried her best not to laugh, not wanting to make Gray feel any worse, but Cana had no such qualms. Her laughter rang out next to Gray’s ear making him so annoyed you could see a vein bulging in his forehead.
“You know what? Fuck it,” Gray decided, “I’m glad I told him, whatever happens, happens but I’m sick of hiding my heart from him.”
“That’s the Gray I know,” Erza encouraged him proudly, “You’ll have a fight and you’ll sort it out.”
“I’m surprised you’re taking this so well,” Gray puzzled, “I was sort of expecting you to be mad.”
“Oh, we’re not done by a long shot,” Erza assured him, her aura once again turning dark, “If you start dating Natsu, we’re going to have a talk.”
Gray gulped, okay at least things were normal there. They spent the rest of the afternoon trying to help him come up with ways to talk to Natsu once he was ready. He was feeling a bit better when the door burst open and Loke entered carrying Natsu in his arms.
Both were bickering and Gray was able to see that Natsu was bleeding severely.
He and Erza both got up and rushed over to their teammate although they quickly moved back when they got a good whiff of Loke’s clothes.
“What happened?” Erza barked at Loke who looked decidedly nervous.
“N-nothing,” He stuttered, having been on the receiving end of Erza’s anger several times before.
“Nothing, my ass,” Natsu hollered, “He wouldn’t stop talking about the Ice Prick, we got ambushed by the mages that were controlling the monsters we were sent to destroy.”
Loke tried to meet Gray’s eyes but the ice mage only looked away, angry that he’d been responsible for Natsu getting hurt unnecessarily.
Meanwhile, Natsu was trying to avoid his gaze which was not exactly giving him the warm fuzzies, even though he understood.
Gray figured it was best if he found an excuse to leave the guild so Natsu could be more comfortable. “Loke, take Natsu to the infirmary, I’ll go find Wendy. And for Mavis sake, change your clothes, you reek.”
Loke looked miserable but he did as he was told, carrying Natsu up the stairs with Mira and Erza following.
Gray walked over to Fairy Hills, looking for the youngest dragon slayer. He knocked on the door and waited for the dorm mother to answer, but to his chagrin, it was opened by none other than Juvia and Lucy, who were apparently on their way to the guild.
“Gray-sama,” Juvia wailed, holding on to his arm and begging him to tell her that the rumors weren’t true.
Fuck! He managed to ask Lucy to go find Wendy so she could take a look at Natsu before being forced to calm down Juvia.
This just wasn’t his day.
To be continued…
A/N: It should finish up tomorrow. Spoiler, I lied!

Modern AU
Request: Gajevy blind date
Word count: 3.7k
FFnet
Gajeel hated his current situation. More so, he hated Natsu the most. It wasn't enough that his pink haired cousin decided to finally propose to his girlfriend, but Natsu had gone full groomzilla mode, much to everyone's surprise and dismay, bugging all his cousins to have someone decent as their partners for the wedding.
And of course, the only one fucked by that demand was Gajeel.
Sting and Rogue had their respective partners for a long time now. Everyone was surprised that Natsu jumped the boat first than them but no one was really pressuring the two brothers as they were the younger from the cousins after Wendy. Laxus dared to make a joke that he was going to take one or two of his one night stands to the wedding for fun. Natsu about chewed his head off until he promised he would take Mira, his oldest friend. Then there was Wendy but she could have avoided the bullet as she's the favorite out of all the cousins. Nonetheless, she pleased Natsu by telling him she would take Romeo to the wedding. The poor boy swore on his life that he had no ill intentions with Wendy and that he would be the best gentleman he could be after all the cousins rounded on him one afternoon after classes. And finally, Cobra had surprised everyone when he revealed he had been dating this nice girl for about 3 years already and that he would take her to the wedding.
So, all the cousins were set with their partners but Gajeel. He tried to escape Natsu's wrath by saying Lily would go with him but the groom-to-be had already gotten the confirmation from Lily that he would go to the wedding with a plus one.
Fucking traitor.
So, to ease Natsu, because he was honestly driving everyone crazy at the home and at work, Gajeel agreed to the stupidest shit he had ever done in his life.
A blind date.
The fuckard didn't even show him a picture of the girl he was supposed to meet in 10 min at the coffee shop. He said something about Gajeel being too eager to judge people based on their looks. Da fuck. He didn't judge others, Gajeel was just really good at reading people. It was a gift when it came to dealing with stupid customers at the mechanic shop, but truthfully, it had made Gajeel more wary when dating someone.
Too prude.
Too crazy.
She'll call the cops once she sees me.
Gajeel knew he was just using any excuse to avoid dating, but who could blame him. It was just so boresome to pretend you're interested in someone you just met, and the stupid relationship drama seem greatly unappealing to him.
But now, there was no escape for him. Natsu had set this date up and the girl would be waiting for him at the coffee shop. And even when Gajeel was an asshole, he wasn't the type to stand up a girl on a date.
No, he had manners. He would order his coffee to go and approach the girl at the table. If she even asked about his cup, he would brush it off saying that the barista fucked up his order. He would then give the date 10 min or so, so it wouldn't be too obvious when his alarm would go off and he will pick his phone up pretending that it was an important call from work. If she made a scene it would be more than obvious that the girl was not for him. Who the fuck would make a scene after someone tells you they have an emergency at work, right? Either way, Gajeel would go out the door to never see the girl again.
He would still need a plan to ease Natsu's wrath, but he was dealing with one step at a time.
Gajeel entered the coffee shop and went straight to the counter to order his black coffee to go. As he waited, he tried to remember the little details Natsu had revealed about the girl he was supposed to meet.
"Her hair is a unique color."
"She's short."
"I think she likes books."
Natsu wasn't the most brilliant person when describing other people. Mavis bless the woman that had agreed to marry his idiot cousin. Besides, he did mention that this girl was a friend of a friend, so he might had gotten some of the details wrong or forgotten other ones.
Gajeel sighed. He just hoped there were not a lot of girls sitting by themselves, so he wouldn't made a fool of himself multiple times. Or get kicked out of the coffee shop by the police for acting like a creep. Not like it hadn't happened before.
Gajeel looked around the coffee shop and spotted a group of friends sitting at a table to his right, some other customers were seated at the counter next to the window. He saw a girl with hair a less ridiculous shade of pink than Natsu's and scoffed thinking that it might be getting popular to dye your hair pink. She was by herself but didn't really looked like she was short or that she was waiting on anyone, so he decided to let her be. He kept surveying around until his eyes landed on the far-left corner of the shop.
By the window, a girl sat curled in one of the love seats, enjoying the sun rays that filtered through the crystal framing her heart shaped face and kissed her pearly skin. On the coffee table in front of her lay a pile of books and a grey mug with pink lipstick on the rim of the cup that matched the one on her plump lips. Her hazel eyes trailed over the words on the book she held close to her and Gajeel swore he saw an infinite number of emotions dance behind those beautiful orbs. She flipped to the next page and fixed one sky-blue strand of her curly hair that had escaped her yellow bandanna behind her ear. She bit her bottom lip and a tiny smile tilted the corner of her mouth. She was gorgeous and Gajeel forgot how to breathe or think. His mind was completely consumed by the blue haired woman and he wondered if maybe he was so fucking lucky that she might be his date.
Something stirred in his gut. Gajeel started feeling embarrassed and so fucking nervous. This is why he never liked dating, because he would more often than not be stupidly rude to the girl or make a fool of himself. He swallowed hard and played with the coins in his pocket.
As she bit her lip again, Gajeel groaned inwardly. He wondered how those lips would taste, he wondered how beautifully she would moan as he would lavish those plump lips of her as his hands would roam over her curves-
"Here's your order sir. Black coffee to go." Gajeel was startled out of his daydream by the barista who not so subtly snickered at the obvious blush on the man's face.
"Thanks," Gajeel grumbled quietly and his gaze returned to the blue haired woman. She matched all the vague descriptions that Natsu had given him and for Mavis Gajeel really wished that she was the girl set up in a date with him. She was by herself too and the empty love seat across the coffee table from her was the only indication that she might be waiting on someone.
Gajeel found himself moving to stand next to her before he even had anything in mind to say to introduce himself without looking like a creep. Nonetheless, she didn't seem to notice him as she continued with her book. Gajeel shifted on his feet and cleared his throat loudly to catch her attention. She blinked rapidly like a spell had been lifted from her and then she noticed for the first time the tall broad man that stood next to her.
Her eyes widened as she tilted her head as far back as she could to see the man's face. How freaking tall is this guy?!
Gajeel sure expected the woman to freak out or at least get startled once her eyes reached his face. With his red eyes, his unruly black hair that he had tried to tame for today's date and all the piercings that adorned his face, he was sure fear would cross through those hazel eyes that hid no emotion to the spectator. He braced himself for the high-pitched shrill that would surely escape from her, but when her eyes met his she remained silent, her mouth forming a small "o" that lacked all the fear he was expecting and displayed all the surprise of a small kid that had discovered something new and intriguing. There was no fear in her eyes either. She seemed surprisingly... curious.
That was definitely a first for Gajeel as he tried to hold his gaze on hers, feeling like he wanted to shrink on himself at her curious scrutiny. Her hazel eyes seemed to bore into his soul and Gajeel had never felt so bare to anyone else in his life than to this woman. She was intriguing to say the least and all this silence was driving Gajeel mad. So, he blurted the first words that crossed his mind.
"Quit with the staring, Shortstuff." Ah, it seemed that today was the stupidly rude attitude on Gajeel's part and he wanted to slap himself as the woman almost flinched from his gruff voice. But then…
"I'm not that short you know!" She stood up and he realized that she was indeed quite short. But he found her to be more adorable then. She got into Gajeel's space and he took a step back from the intimidating woman that blazed like sunfire. Her blue curls bounced when she lifted her chin high up and poked him in the chest. "You just happen to be stupidly tall!"
Her eyes shone with a raging fire he had never encountered before and Gajeel wanted nothing more than to kiss her in that moment. She was definitely feisty and didn't care at all about Gajeel's intimidating looks as she stood her ground, crossing her arms over her chest to make herself bigger. And Mavis, she had become the biggest thing in Gajeel's mind in that moment.
So, her height was a sensitive topic for her, eh? Gajeel stood up straighter then, puffing out his chest and he adored how a blush that had nothing to do with her anger dusted her cheeks. But as she "hmpf" and lifted her chin higher as if grasping at every single inch of height she could Gajeel couldn't help but laugh. Loudly.
"Gihihihi!" He clutched his sides as he bent over from laughter. His coffee had been abandoned at the coffee table as a precaution to not spill it all over himself as he roared with his laughter and his body shook in amusement. The other customers turned to look at the scene of a pouting blue-haired woman and a tough guy laughing like a maniac. Some curious glances lingered longer on them, but the couple didn't seem to care at all.
Gajeel took a deep breath, trying to reign control on his mirth. Geez, how long had it been since he had laughed this way? The girl tried to grasp at her anger a little bit more, but the weird laugh of this guy was oddly contagious that she couldn't help the small smile that betrayed her fury.
Gajeel wiped away the tears at the corner of his eye and chuckled one last time before his gaze returned to the girl. She huffed, pretending to be annoyed again but having some trouble to keep mad at this stranger.
"You're mean, you know?" The mirth that hid at the corner of her eyes told him it was not an insult thrown his way.
"Heh, I've been called worse." He shrugged, and a tiny almost invisible smile tilted his lips. She caught it before it was gone and spiked her intrigue even more. "Is this seat taken?" Gajeel pointed to the empty love seat across her and swallowed hard, hoping she wouldn't notice the eager note in his voice.
"Uhm, actually." She bit her lip and her brows creased in apology, "I'm waiting on someone, sorry."
"Ah." Gajeel hid his hurt by sipping on his coffee. Somehow, the bitter taste of the beverage tasted sweet compared to the feeling that settled heavy on his tongue. "That's alright. I'm actually looking for someone. Stupid as it is, I'm here on a blind date."
Gajeel was never one to talk much, and less to people he had just met, but the words almost blurted out of his mouth before his mind could registered it happening. Her eyes widened in response and she chuckled as her gaze softened on him. "A blind date, eh? Me too. I-I'm waiting on the guy now."
"Ah." Hope bloomed in his rib cage leaving him lightheaded. For once Natsu had done something right in his goddamn life. "My idiot cousin wouldn't show me a pic of the girl, but you fit the description he gave me. Short, unique hair and book lover." He looked over the table and just noticed the additional pile of books that were underneath it. Holy shit, this girl really likes to read!
Her gaze hardened, and she was about to chew him off for mocking her height again when recognition flashed over her eyes. "Wait." She drew back and looked him over once again, the gears in her mind connecting the dots. "My friend didn't show me a photo of the guy either." A soft smile settled on her lips and she visibly relaxed. "I'm guessing you're the tall, vibrant-eyes, peculiar-face guy then?"
"Peculiar face?" He quirked a pierced eyebrow. The fuck was that kinda description?
"Well, not everyone has their face heavily pierced like you." Gajeel felt self-conscious then. Did she not like his piercings? "But," she continued, "I think they suit you just fine." And then she smiled at him and Gajeel swore to kiss Natsu's feet for arranging this date with the most gorgeous woman in this whole damn universe.
He let go of a breath he didn't notice he was holding and pointed to the empty seat again. "So?" She giggled and nodded her head for him to take the seat. Gajeel had never heard a laugh so beautiful and sweet and something deep within him wanted to hear that laugh for the rest of his life.
"I'm Levy, by the way."
Levy. The name tasted sweet as he repeated it in his mind.
"Ah. Gajeel." He smirked.
She extended her hand and he wrapped his around hers, marveling at the size difference. Her skin was so soft in his calloused touch. She was so delicate and beautiful that he had the strongest urge to protect her, to wrap her in his arms and horde her away from the world so no one could harm her. And yet, she was a force to be reckoned, a little spitfire with a quick tongue and blazing eyes. She was an enigma to him and Gajeel wanted to spend his life figuring her out.
As he took his seat he wondered if there had been any other moment in his life where he had felt such peace. It was so strange. Less than 30 minutes ago he had been dreading this date and now he felt like his life had suddenly shifted. It was stupid to think that after talking with this tiny woman for 10 minutes his life had brightened, but there was no other way Gajeel could wrap his head around this odd but pleasing feeling. He wanted to know her more, to make her happy.
"So Gajeel, you-" A shrill interrupted her question. Gajeel cursed under his breath for forgetting his phone alarm that was going to get him out of this date. He wanted nothing more that stay as long as he could. He quickly took out his phone and dismissed the alarm.
"Sorry, I-"
"Work emergency?" she questioned and something sad pulled at the corner of her eyes.
"What? No! No," he corrected quickly, panicking over upsetting Levy. "I just fucked up with my alarms that's all."
Her eyes narrowed in disbelief but settled back into her seat as she shrugged. "It was a solid plan though."
"Uh?"
"Well, the coffee to go and then the alarm? You were planning on ditching the date, right?" His red eyes widened in shock. Is this girl psychic?!
She giggled at his shocked expression and continued, "I'm not sure why, but you don't come off like the type of guy who dates a lot." She gave him a sheepish smile. "I usually do something similar but use the family emergency card instead." She giggled again.
"Heh? Is that so?" He smiled softly at her and enjoyed how she blushed at the gesture. "So shortstuff, is there going to be a family emergency today?"
Her gaze darkened at the nickname and he enjoyed how easily it was to push her buttons. Then she smiled and tucked her legs under her. "I don't think so. And you?" There was a hopeful note in her voice and tension settled subtly on her shoulders as the question hung between them.
"Not a chance." He smirked, and his red eyes shone with emotions he was trying to figure out. The smile she gave him in return was dazzling and Gajeel looked aside to cover the blush that spread over his face. "Uhm, I'm gonna grab a muffin or something cuz I'm starving. Want something?"
"A black coffee would be nice, thank you."
He grunted in response as he stood up to order his food and her coffee. As he waited in line he sneaked a glance at Levy. She was in the same position as he saw her before introducing himself. The light framed her breathtaking features as her hazel gaze got lost in the pages of her book. Gajeel felt his insides flutter in an indescribable way that had him almost clenching his hand over his heart at the rapid beating in his chest. She made him feel so much and he felt a tad bit uncomfortable with such strange reactions he was getting from his body, but he welcomed all these feelings, because something about her made him feel whole, made him feel at peace and Mavis he had never felt this way with anyone before.
As Levy felt Gajeel's gaze on her, her eyes sought for him at the line by the counter. When she met his red irises, she smiled sweetly. He returned it with his own gentle smile. When he turned back to pay for their order, Levy took out her phone and quickly sent a text to Mira.
Thank you so much for this. He's great! ❤ talk to you later!
She put away her phone and missed Mira's reply.
! You got this Levy! Tell me all the juicy details later~
Bickslow hurriedly entered the coffee shop. He was beyond fucked! He was incredibly late to the stupid blind date Mira had set for him. He just hoped that Mira's friend was still there and that she wouldn't be pissed at him for being so late.
He checked his phone and started looking around for the blue haired girl that was supposed to be his date. Laughter caught his attention and he saw the girl he was looking for at the far left of the coffee shop. There he found the Mira's friend, but she seemed to be having a really good time with the black haired man sitting in front of her. His date seemed to have gotten herself her own date and she was enjoying it to the fullest.
Bickslow smiled. He was fine with that but just worried about Mira's rage for ruining her matchmaking plan. Well, she wouldn't be so mad if he got her some new gossip, right?
He took out his cellphone and took a quick picture of the couple. He looked at it and he had to admit that they looked really cute and happy together. The girl was smiling a mile a minute and the guy had that soft look you only get to see a handful of time.
Bickslow wrote a text to Mira and sent the picture with it.
I just arrived at the coffee shop but seems that your baby blue already got herself her man.
He put away his phone and ordered a sandwich. As he looked for a place to sit, he spotted a girl with pink hair over the counter by the window and luckily for him the seat next to her was empty. He tapped her on the shoulder to get her attention and she took off her headphones and turned her gaze to the man.
"Hey darling, is this seat taken?"
She turned her eyes to the black-haired man that roared in laughter at something the blue-haired girl just said. Her eyes softened and looked back at Bickslow, shaking her head no. "Not anymore, go ahead." She smiled sweetly and Bickslow returned the gesture with a grin.
"Heh, just my luck that my date got herself someone else." He laughed starting a random conversation with the pink-haired girl who giggled in return.
"Same happened to me actually." She turned to look at the couple at the far left before giggling again.
"Really? You and that guy?" He quirked an eyebrow at her.
"Blind date set up by some friends. But they warned me he didn't know what I looked like."
"Heh! Lots of coincidence then. Baby blue over there was supposed to be my blind date too." He laughed. This girl was very easy to get along with and she had such a nice vibe to her that Bickslow wondered if they had indeed been very lucky to mix up the set-up dates.
"I'm Meredy." She extended her hand and he gladly took it.
"Bickslow." He said between bites of his sandwich.

Proposition
"So? What is it, doc? A broken bone? Broken spirit? Terminal illness?"
"Well, for one I'm not a doctor," Mirajane said with a bit of a tsk, "but from what I can tell, Bickslow, you at most have a bruise on your arm."
"Well, you're not a doctor, so I'd keep your opinions to yourself."
The woman only made a face as she asked the seith, "Bickslow, why did you make me come up here?"
"Well, not for this piss poor bedside manner of yours."
"I typically piss in a toilet, not beside the bed."
For a long moment, the pair only stared one another straight in the eyes. Then Bickslow dropped his visor once more.
"What if I told you, Mirajane," he began as he sat the cot up in the infirmary, unconcerned with moving it seemed, "that I had something life changing to tell you?"
"I don't understand the question."
"What do you mean you don't understand?"
"You're asking me what would happen if that occurred, but how could I know? When I don't know what the life changing information is?'
Bickslow considered this before saying, "Maybe I just tell you why I asked you to come up here."
"And explain why you let me go through the ruse of giving you a full medical exam."
"You're saying you didn't want to check my heart rate for me, Mira?"
"I'm saying I'm actually on the clock right now and if I leave Kinana alone for too long-"
"Alright, alright, alright," he griped. "I'll tell ya what's up."
"Alright, Mira," his babies sang as they floated about. "Papa will tell you."
"See, I'm a simple man, Mira," the seith began. Tapping at his chest, he said, "I have simple tastes. Simple desires. Simple-"
"Bickslow-"
"I need you to help me propose to your sister."
Mirajane blinked. Then she blinked some more. Finally, she began to jump all about.
"Oh, Bickslow, are you serious? Do you really want to do that?"
"Well, I did before you started this bouncing business."
"I'm so glad that you came to me," Mirajane said with a bright grin. "For- Wait, you didn't come to me to ask for her hand or something creepy like that, did you?"
"If I wanted her hand, Mira, I would just cut it off after spiking her drink."
The bouncing had stopped and so had the excitement, but still, Mira was smiling some as she stared at the seith.
"This is just the best thing ever. Honestly, Bickslow, the best."
"Well, world peace would be nice. The abolishing of the slave trade. Making it to where you don't knock your freaking toe into stuff when you're stumbling around in the dark-"
"The best."
"But you're right, anyways," the man continued on with that serious tone he put on when he was, rarely, feeling the need for it. And a proposal (or at least the beginning stages of it, called for such a thing). "I didn't come to you to ask for her hand."
"I hope not." Then Mira frowned, if only briefly. "And I really hope you don't drug her and cut it off either."
"I asked you all the way up here for your help."
"My help?"
"When I think of Lisanna, I think of one thing," the seith insisted. "Her hotter older sister."
"Wait, what?"
"But only because," Bickslow went on with an air of importance, "you and her are around one another so much. So. Freaking. Much. Even when she and I are alone, she's worried about what you're doing."
"Awe."
"Well, gross, but if you're in awe of gross things, sure." Still, the man shook his head some before saying, "If there's anyone that I could go to for help with this whole proposal shit, it's you. You can help me pick out a ring, huh? And figure out how I can do all this? Without it being a complete disaster? I don't care about much, you know, doing things all proper and shit. But this is different. Very different."
Her smile fell back to her face then as Mirajane nodded her head a bit. "Of course, Bickslow."
"So, first thing's first," he began with his head held high, "Are we gonna get this prostate exam out of the way or what?"
"What?"
"Turn my head and cough, eh?"
But she was too blissed out, Mirajane was, to care about much else. Not even the fact she was pretty sure she was assisting a complete psychopath with proposing to her sister.
As he went back downstairs, she took her time, just breathing and counting and anything to calm her nerves. To focus. She did still have a shift to get back to. Not to mention, she couldn't spill the beans. Nope. She had to keep this a secret. From her sister. Her little sister who was going to be married and happy and oh, Mira would get to plan it all. Every single step.
She, herself, wasn't too keen on the idea of marriage. It felt antiquated and false.
"I like the ability to date and be with whoever I want."
Laxus frowned when she got to this part of her retelling of her day, sitting there beside her in bed. He'd been reading, honestly, as he'd taken to doing before bed, but somehow, her words penetrated his train of thought, derailing him right into her typical delusions.
"We're," he told her with a perplex gaze, "dating. Monogamously. Mirajane."
"Well, yeah, sure, but we're not married."
"No," he agreed slowly, "but-"
"And Laxus, I think you're missing my point."
Completely.
"I'm happy. For Lisanna. So happy. And now I'll get to plan the wedding of my dreams without ever having to sign my life away to some man-"
"Jokes on you." He went back to his book. "Having seen you're life, I'd definitely void the contract."
Still, Mirajane could hardly contain herself with the thoughts of her sister's impending engagement. She couldn't tell anyone else, not even Lucy or Cana, who she was just chomping at the bit to. It helped though that most everyone was out on jobs, anyways. Even Bickslow and Lisanna went out on a job together not soon after the conversation the seith had had with the barmaid and, well, with them both gone, she had to talk to someone. And clearly, Laxus wasn't going to be that someone.
"Can you believe," she gushed to Freed, "that Bickslow is going to ask Lisanna to marry him?"
The rune mage, at the moment, was trying to enjoy the fact that Evergreen was off on a solo job (S-Class would be upon them soon) and Bickslow was out on a job with Lisanna in the only way he knew how; having a nice drink, alone, at the bar, while going over a magic tome. It was a good way to unwind.
Until Mirajane Strauss sat at his side.
Freed choked too, a bit, on his drink, before frowning at the barmaid. "What did you just say?" he asked as he only wiped his mouth with a napkin, "Mira?"
"Did you not know?" She didn't feel any shame in this as, honestly, that was Bickslow's fault. Not telling his best friend first. Who could blame her for assuming, of all people, Freed knew? "Well, he is."
"I highly doubt that."
"He told me himself."
"Surely, you misunderstood."
"I didn't."
He raised an eyebrow then at her, Freed did, before slowly questioning, "You are certain of this?"
"Very."
"And your sister plans to...say yes?"
"Well, I dunno about that. But I hope so." And then Mirajane got down to what she really wanted to talk about. "Can you imagine it? The wedding? The dress? And ooh, I know she'll pick me to be her maid of honor. Who else would she pick? We're very close, you know."
"I am aware."
"My only issue," Mira was going right along then, "is that I'm still going back and forth on the color scheme? I mean, I'm sure there'll be plenty time to consider it, but-"
"I'm sure that Lisanna, regardless of how close the pair of you are, will have some say in the matters, yes, Mira?"
That made her pause then, just to study the other wizard. Then she shrugged some.
"You don't get it, Freed," she said with a wave of her hand. "This will be my only real wedding to plan."
"Won't you marry? One day?"
"I'm not the type to be all tied down, you know."
"Damn it, woman." And Laxus, who was, of course, seated at the table with Freed, as he always was, slammed down his newspaper then as he took one of his headphones out while glaring at his girlfriend. "I am right here."
"Oh, dragon, you know what I mean."
"No," he growled at her angrily, "I don't."
Freed only glanced between the two of them before sighing deeply. "I suppose neither of you wish to end this charade before it gets too far?"
"I mean, I'm just saying that I don't wanna be with Laxus necessarily forever," Mira defended, frowning, "not that our entire relationship is a charade."
"Might," the slayer growled, "as well."
"I actually was speaking on Bickslow and his idea to propose to Lisanna." Still, Freed sighed a bit before saying, "But I suppose if the two of you have something you wish to talk about-"
"We don't," Mira assured him. "To either of those."
It was difficult to argue with the finality in her tone. Even Laxus only grumbled while putting his headphone back in.
Mirajane was so giddy over the entire thing though. Too giddy, Freed felt (and Laxus seethed), considering the players involved in her little game. She'd spent the time Bickslow and Lisanna were away contemplating all the cutesy ways in which the seith could ask her younger sister to marry him and while each outdid the other, she never felt as if she landed on the exactly perfect way.
As it would turn out, it wouldn't matter anyhow, her feelings on the matter. Her thoughts. Her considerations. Not even her ideas on decorations or the cake or the wedding dress or anything.
Not because they came back from the trip with their relationship in shambles or even because she'd had a change of heart about facilitating the further progression of her sister's relationship with a man probably not even fit to care for the wooden dolls he had. No. Their relationship was better than ever and Mirajane was more committed than ever to the proposal and wedding and all the excellent things she foresaw stemming from it.
Rather, when they arrived at the hall one afternoon, Bickslow and Lisanna were in high spirits, practically falling off one another as they happily announced to everyone within hearing distance that, in fact, they'd gotten married while they were out on their job. Eloped, maybe, was the right word.
Mirajane preferred betrayal.
Laxus just wished he wasn't around that day. For a multitude of reasons. For one, because the guild immediately shifted into party mode (he honestly felt as if the place was in a constant state of that , anyways) and he was not down for that. At all. For two though, and probably the most important reason, because he knew that Mirajane was not going to take this well.
He was tripping over his feet some, Laxus was, around all the commotion that Lisanna and Bickslow set off in the hall with their announcement, to get over to the bar. To get to his girlfriend. Before...well, he wasn't sure what he was trying to stop. Murder felt likely.
She was behind the bar, where she'd been before they even came in, just standing there, a mug she'd been polishing in hand, staring with wide eyes as the others all descended on her little sister and Bickslow.
"Mira," Laxus whispered over the excitement as he only stood before her. "Are you…gonna be alright? With all this?"
Absolutely not. In anyway. He knew this. The dark look in her eyes told him this. As if he needed to be told it once more. He knew the woman well at that point and they were minutes away from either a meltdown or a shutdown.
He wasn't sure what would be worse in that situation.
Given the party atmosphere, she was needed to serve drinks… Poor Kinana couldn't do it all alone, after all.
"Oi, Boss, did ya hear?" Bickslow escaped the madness (most of the members were far more interested in his apparent bride, anyhow), just to get over to the bar. "I'm a taken man now. So what you gonna get me? For my weddin' gift? Payin' my rent would be nice, but-"
"Bickslow," the slayer growled with a glare, "right now isn't a good-"
"Why," Mira finally spoke, staring straight at the seith, "would you do this? Bickslow? I thought that you told me-"
"Oi, Mrs. Boss," he remarked. "Or should I be Mrs. Lisanna now? Eh? A title in the works. A work in progress. I'll have a lotta time to figure it out, after all. Forever, I guess."
"You," Mira repeated, "guess."
"It's what I said."
"Mira-" Laxus tried once more, but no. There was no saving them. The demon was going to explode. She was. Honestly, she was.
How could Bickslow do this to her? Get her all excited and amped up and then pull some...some...bullshit like this? Huh? How could he do that?
Mira was just about to give him a piece of her mind too (a huge chunk of it, honestly) and Laxus was considering their safest exit route, when Lisanna was finally able to break free a bit too. It was difficult, but she broke through the congratulatory words and hugs and questions just to make it over to her sister who she beamed at so happily and so excitedly and Mira wanted to be upset. She knew she had the right to be. How could they do that? Go and have some sort of courthouse marriage and not include her at all and who's wedding was she going to plan now? Huh?
"Well," Lisanna started with a bright smile as she stood before the bar, "what do you think? Sis? I'm a married woman now."
It fell then, all of it. Deflated. Mira almost dropped the mug then, even, to the ground, as she rushed right around the bar, eyes filled with tears as she only wrapped her arms around her sister. All the anger was washing away and the shock was becoming something different, seeing her sister then, so happy and expecting her to be the same.
"Yeah," Mira sighed as she held her younger sister closely. "You are."
It was a long, intoxicating night up at the guild and Laxus was glad when he finally found his way home, to his own bed, to sleep off what was no doubt going to become a hangover. He was just drifting off when Mirajane suddenly patted at his chest.
"Evergreen," she whispered to him softly, "is going to have to marry Elfman now. You know. And let me plan it all. Marriage is the perfect solution to all their problems, don't you think?"
Laxus only shut his eyes though. "Yeah, demon. I do."
But not theirs.
Thankfully.

"Til Death Do Us Part"
Rated M for smut and heavy themes.
Immortal/Reincarnation AU.
Summary: There are immortals and there are those who reincarnate, though it's best to keep these things hidden. Lucy is attending college and meets Natsu, a mischievous boy with pink hair, a devilish smile, and a body that never ages.

Chapter 3
Chemistry
Beer, cigarette smoke, and boisterous laughter hit Natsu the moment he approached Fairy Tail. With a toothy grin plastered to his face, the boy happily waltzed inside, dodging chairs and bottles that were being thrown in one of the daily brawls. He'd definitely join in later after he had his fill of Mira's cooking.
Fairy Tail was run by a family that knew about and associated with immortals. The founder, Mavis, was an immortal herself, one of the first ones to discover her immortality. She and her friends of mortals traveled the world, searching for people like her to bring them to a safe place. With their connections, they managed to make Fairy Tail a home for those that lost theirs over the vast years.
Mavis handed Fairy Tail over to her friend, Yuri Dreyar, who was a mortal that cared about the wellbeing of everyone while she continued her journey to find more immortals. Once Yuri died, control went to Makarov, who was the current leader as of now.
People were born as immortals, but it wasn't passed down through genes. It was just an odd strike of luck- though, it was usually considered a curse to the people affected themselves. Mortals could give birth to immortals, and immortals could give birth to mortals, there was no guarantee.
Natsu didn't find out he was immortal until he was around forty years old, as he had stopped aging at roughly twenty-one. For the first few years, he had assumed that he had gotten his good genes from his father, Igneel. But once he was surrounded by his fellow forty-year-old friends, their faces adorning wrinkles while their hair was starting to grey, he knew something was off, but he couldn't put a finger to it.
He never expected the answer to be his body never aged. That is, until Makarov found him and explained the whole situation to him.
"My boy, just how old are you?" Makarov had asked.
Natsu arched a brow at the old man who had approached him seemingly out of nowhere. "Huh? I'm forty, why?"
"Surely you realize that you don't look it."
Natsu frowned, shoving his hands in his pockets. It was admittedly something he had been wondering about a lot. "So what? I got good genes." He moved to walk past the old man, when he froze at what he said next.
"Have you ever considered the possibility of immortality?"
Sharp laughter cut the air, Natsu peeling over and clutching his stomach. "Oh man, you're senile! There ain't no such thing!"
"If you believe that to be true, then go ahead and keep going about your day," Makarov said, giving him a hard stare. "But if you are hesitant as to why your body never grows or why your wounds heal at miraculous paces, come with me. There are others like you. You aren't alone anymore, boy."
Since then, Natsu was introduced to the world of the immortals. He learned of the networks, Fairy Tail, even more about himself.
Immortals all had what they referred to as their death day, the day that they stopped aging. Of course, nobody knew for sure what their death day was, considering that it was impossible to pinpoint the exact moment they stopped aging. But they could roughly guess the age at which their features stopped evolving.
In Natsu's case, it was around his low twenties, same as Erza and the others. Mavis' was in her mid-teens. Laxus', Makarov's grandson, was in his mid-twenties. There was no specific reason for people's death days, it was all arbitrary.
Natsu followed his friends behind the counter where only immortals were allowed. Past a hallway, there was a set of stairs leading to the large basement, full of pool tables, lounging areas, a large kitchen, and plenty of other amenities. The top floor was a coverup, a way to make money to help feed the immortals while the basement was for the immortals that couldn't roam around with it being too risky of a time period.
Though it sounded cruel to be stuck in a basement, it wasn't too bad. The people had plenty of friends and things to do to occupy themselves. Plus, they could leave the basement and go upstairs once the pub closed.
Cana sat at a table, clutching a barrel of booze to her chest. She had been an immortal longer than Natsu and the others.
"Oh, how was your first day of school?" she asked, her words slurred and her cheeks pink from the alcohol.
"Pleasant," Erza answered with a content smile. "Though I do wish professors went over more than the syllabuses on the first day."
"Nerd," Natsu muttered beneath his breath. A dark shadow loomed over him, his lifeforce seeping out of him under the harsh glare that Erza was giving him.
"Care to repeat that?"
"N-No, ma'am!"
Everyone laughed at Natsu's misfortune, save for the boy himself, who crossed his arms with a huff.
"Is Levy out with her friend again?" Mira asked, cooking up food in the kitchen.
Gajeel scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Yep. Shrimp never learns, and she's supposed to be the smart one."
"I actually met this Lucy girl today," Jellal announced. Everyone's heads whipped towards him, but he didn't fluster under the attention. "I sensed no malicious intent from her. It seems she's just a college student with a love for writing and books, which is probably why Levy took such a liking towards her."
Natsu's ears perked at the word 'writing', reminded of the girl he sat by in class and the story she was writing. Part of him couldn't wait for Friday so that he could read more of it. That is, if she continued to slack off from school and write more.
"I don't care what she's like," Gajeel retorted. "I don't trust her. There's something off about her, I just don't know what it is."
"I understand your suspicion towards mortals but-"
"That's not it. Yeah, I don't trust mortals, but I especially don't trust this one."
"Why?" Erza questioned, her need to protect flaring for their friend. "Has this Lucy girl done anything?"
Gajeel rubbed the back of his head. "Nah, not exactly. But there's something about her. If you met her, you would understand. It's just, whenever I look her in the eyes, it feels like she's hiding something."
"Perhaps we should all meet this girl."
"I don't know how Levy would feel about that," Cana said, wiping alcohol off of her chin. "She'll probably know that you're going to interrogate the girl. Probably scare her off in the process."
Erza shrugged. "Perhaps that's what's best."
"I think it's good that Levy has a friend she is close to, even if it is a mortal," Mira argued, her signature, pleasant smile glued to her face. "If Levy does agree to bring her friend, I want you all to be on your best behavior, got it?" Her face barely changed, but her smile suddenly felt sinister, like that of a demon.
"Fine," Erza agreed, crossing her arms. She glanced towards Gajeel. "Well? Think you can convince Levy to invite her friend over so that we can all see if she's a threat?"
The boy nodded. There was no way he was going to let his girlfriend dive too deep with the mortals and get hurt the way some of the others had. Some scars were too deep.
Sunlight filtered through Lucy's curtains that Thursday morning, to which the blonde tried to avoid by shoving her face in her pillow. As if on cue, birds began chirping their morning melodies, only making things worse for the sleepy girl. Knowing there was no chance of her going back to bed, she rose in a slouching position, glaring at the wall in front of her. She wasn't a morning person.
Glancing at the alarm clock that rested on her nightstand, Lucy's eyes widened, a gasp escaping her lips as she scurried out of bed. Her ankle was tangled in the sheets, so she ended up tripping and falling face-first onto the floor, but she ignored the pain and quickly got ready for school. Waking up late on the second day of school wasn't what she had in mind.
Her golden locks were thrown in a messy bun on top of her head and her clothes were haphazardly thrown on. Lucy frowned, knowing that she didn't have time to eat breakfast before bolting out the door.
Reaching the classroom just in the nick of time, Lucy collapsed in the nearest available seat and laid her head on the desk, not paying attention to who else was sitting at the table with her.
"Oi, why're you here?" a familiar voice questioned, quite rudely she might add.
Lucy swallowed thickly and dragged her gaze towards the harsh voice. Immediately, she was met with crimson eyes that felt like they could turn her to stone. "G-Gajeel. I didn't know you were in this class."
"Got a problem with it?" the boy asked, crossing his arms and giving her a look that could freeze all of hell.
"N-No, of course not!" Lucy glanced around the room, searching for another table she could sit at. It was clear she wasn't welcomed there, and she didn't want to spend the entire quarter by someone that hated her guts. Finding one in the opposite corner of the room, the girl rose. "W-Well, I'll just go-"
"Nonsense," a girl at the table interrupted. She was mesmerizingly beautiful with long locks of scarlet hair, her bangs sweeping to the side to cover one of her eyes. "You're welcome to sit anywhere you'd like. Ignore Gajeel."
"You two know each other?"
"Unfortunately."
"Oi! Why'd you hafta go and say that!?" Gajeel barked, though he went unheard.
Lucy, having a feeling that it would be rude to turn down the redhead's offer, slowly sat back down once again. With it being a chemistry class, they were in a lab with stations that had two chairs on both sides and then one on the end. She was sitting at the end of the table and felt like the odd man out.
To her left were Gajeel and the redheaded girl and to her right was a couple. It was obvious they were a couple with how the girl was clinging so tightly to the boy's arm. She had wavy blue locks of hair and was dressed for the winter, despite the warm weather. She had fair skin and her lashes were dark and noticeable. She was stunning.
Lucy's eyes widened and her mouth parted as she glanced towards the boy. To her surprise, it was the same boy that was late to her math class yesterday. She recognized his scar that ran along his forehead, not to mention the fact that his shirt was unbuttoned yet again.
"Hey, we're in math together," Lucy said, facing the raven-haired boy.
His browsed raised, recognition lighting in his eyes. "Oh yeah. You're the one that sits next to-"
"Love Rival," the girl next to him interrupted through clenched teeth. Her grip on the boy's arm tightened as her eyes shot daggers at Lucy.
"Th-That's not it!" the blonde denied. She really should've just moved to the other table.
"Ignore them, too," the redhead said with a sigh. "You must be Lucy." She could tell by the way Gajeel acted with her.
"Huh? Oh, yeah. How do you know my name?"
"We're friends with Levy."
At that, Lucy's features lit up. "Oh, really? That's great!"
"I'm Erza. This is Gray, and this is his girlfriend, Juvia. And you're already acquainted with Gajeel."
Erza studied Lucy. In truth, she seemed like a nice girl, but looks could be deceiving. She learned that the hard way. Now, there wouldn't be a need to have Levy invite Lucy over to Fairy Tail. Through dumb luck, she could watch over the peculiar blonde herself.
"Yo!" a sudden voice rang out. Everyone turned towards the front of the classroom to find a man in his mid-twenties strolling towards the professor's desk, placing his bag down. He was a peculiar looking man with red and white hair split perfectly in the middle. He wore a red button up shirt with a large collar, though just like Gray, he opted to leave quite a few buttons undone. "I'm Scorpio. This quarter, we're gonna be learning about chemistry. We are!"
"He's kinda weird," Lucy thought. "But at least he seems nice." She couldn't say the same for her last professor.
"Hope ya like where you're sitting, because from now on that's your assigned seat. We're gonna be doing a lot of group projects and it's just easier if everyone works with the same people every time."
Lucy suppressed the urge to sigh. She didn't want to work with Gajeel, or his friends for that matter, even if they were also Levy's. Aside from Erza and perhaps Gray, she didn't get a very warm welcome. The other two kept glaring at her the whole time, not even bothering to be discreet about it. Despite what class they were in, she did not have chemistry with these people at all.
Luckily, the class went by quickly as Scorpio used the time to go over the syllabus, as most teachers do on the first day of class. Lucy quickly packed her things and gave a hesitant nod as farewell to her new deskmates. With that, she was out the door.
Grabbing her phone, Lucy typed a quick text to Levy, careful so as not to trip or bump into anyone.
"So I met some of your friends today."
The reply she got was instant. "What? Who?"
"Erza, Gray, and Juvia. And Gajeel was there too. Turns out we have chem together."
"That's perfect!"
"Maybe for you but not for me. Juvia called me her love rival the entire time and Gajeel was being his normal lovely self."
"Sorry about that. Juvia is overly jealous and I try to talk to Gajeel but he's a hardheaded idiot."
Lucy couldn't help but laugh aloud at that text. Though Gajeel was a huge ass towards her, she thought his relationship with her best friend was quite entertaining. She found their bickering way more endearing than other couple's lovey-dovey statements. She momentarily wondered what she would be like if she had a boyfriend before shaking her head and staring at her phone again.
"It's okay. Maybe I can finally win him over now that we see each other twice a week!" Lucy texted back.
"How about we make it three times this week?" Levy replied. "Why don't you hang out with us tomorrow! It's a Friday, so I know you don't have to rush to do homework!"
Lucy stared blankly at the text. Hang out? With Levy's friends? "I don't know, Levy-chan. I had some stuff planned for tomorrow."
"You're a horrible liar, Lu-chan. C'mon! Hang out with us! It'll be fun! Please do it for me?"
Lucy sighed, knowing that she couldn't turn her down now. "Alright. Only for you, Levy-chan."
"Yes! You and I can go get smoothies after school and then I'll bring you to where we all hang out!"
"Where's that?"
"Fairy Tail!"

Through Rose-Colored Lenses
A Bixanna AU commissioned by @smartcookie727! Sorry this took me so long! And also, what are endings???? This was way more difficult to end than I thought it would be lmao
I really hope you enjoy it though!
Title: Through Rose-Colored Lenses
Pairing: Bixanna
Words: ~4K+
Summary: Soulmates are a tricky thing, especially when you see the world through their eyes. More specifically, the color of their eyes. Bixlow really hates the color blue. Or does he?
Lisanna Strauss has always believed in soulmates. She loves the idea of being destined to find someone, even if she’s never meant to love them. She loves the idea of forever, of being bound to someone, even though they both have the option to walk away. She loves the idea of being loved by someone despite her flaws, even though she knows the prospect of finding them may be harder than anything else she’s ever had to do. Soulmates aren’t found easily, practically ghosts, wanderers, and Lisanna can only pray she finds her match someday, even if it takes years. She seems to be the only one that hasn’t found hers yet, and that’s more disappointing than she’d care to admit.
She’s been told she’s living life looking through rose-colored lenses, but people don’t know how true that is. Her life is a mix of reds and pinks as she looks through the eyes of her soulmate, the tint of color the only thing she’s been able to see for as long as she can remember.
No one knows why or how it happened, but years ago people starting seeing less and less color, all others disappearing until their soulmate is found. They called it a phenomenon once, a curiosity, but it’s more of a curse than anything else. Seeing only a handful of colors is a pain, making life difficult for those who haven’t found their matches and sometimes even dangerous. She’s heard stories of people walking into traffic, unable to tell what color the lights were.
For Lisanna it’s more annoying than anything else. As a baker and cake decorator, it’s always been a pain in her ass to have to ask one of her coworkers at the Bakery what color frosting she’s using, or if it’s the right kind of sprinkles. She’s gotten into trouble with customers before because they specifically wanted orange frosting and she used yellow frosting. She’s gotten better at recognizing tints, but it’s always a gamble.
Lisanna doesn’t have the faintest idea who her soulmate might be, only knowing that she sees things in red and they must see things in blue, her own eye color. In a way, she hates it, the not knowing and the muted tones surrounding her. She wants to see things how they truly are, all the colors and shades, not just red. And she wants to be angry about the entire situation and how unfair it all is, but she knows things could be worse.
She could not have a soulmate at all, like her friend Cana. The girl sees nothing but shades of gray, and for the longest time she hoped it was simply her matches eye-color, but then it came out that people seeing in black and white never had a soulmate at all, and were never destined to find anyone. Lisanna never once saw Cana cry before the day she learned she was never meant for anyone, and she’ll never be able to forget the way Cana looked at herself in the mirror like a part of her was broken.
Cana has a girlfriend now, but even after all this time Lisanna knows she’s still bitter on the bad days, though there seems to be less and less of them with every passing month.
She could also be stuck with an unattractive color. Her oldest friend, Natsu, can only see in shades of brown, something he’s always lamented, the world dark and, though beautiful at times, always muted. He admitted to her once that in just the right lighting everything would turn gold, and that’s what’s always kept him searching for his match. He figures that her eyes must turn that same shade, and Natsu thinks he could get lost in it.
Things could be worse, she reasons with herself. Sure, she’s beginning to hate the color pink, which is a shame because it was always her favorite. Not that she had a lot of options to choose from, considering it’s all she’s ever been able to see. Rose-colored lenses indeed. Lisanna may be a romantic and find the idea of destiny more passionate than anything else, but she’s also finding it to be very inconvenient.
She can’t dress herself without looking like a fashion disaster, thus constantly needing help from her older sister, insanely lucky that Mira met her soulmate in early high school during a game of dodge ball. She threw the ball at Laxus so hard it broke his nose, and they’ve been at each others throats ever since. They aren’t dating, but they certainly bring out the best in each other. Laxus has calmed down considerably since they first met, less of an asshole than he was as a teenager, and he keeps Mira from floating off into outer space or walking into traffic.
Lisanna wonders if that’s how she’ll be with her own soulmate, if they’ll simply be friends, or if they’ll become lovers like her brother Elfman and his new fiancée Evergreen. They had a bit of a rocky start, with Elfman accidentally insulting Ever and Ever overreacting just the slightest. They danced around their feelings for years in high school and even college, their relationship nothing short of antagonistic.
It came as a shock to everyone when Elfman asked her to marry him just a week ago, completely out of the blue, and even more of a shock when Evergreen actually said yes.
And that’s how Lisanna finds herself struggling into a cute, blue dress that Mira says brings out her eyes. One week ago, she was definitely not expecting to go to an engagement party for her only brother, and now Lisanna’s even more desperate to find her soulmate. It’s not because she feels left out, or anything petty like that, it’s just that she wants to see her brother’s wedding in all it’s colors, experiencing everything there is to see.
Mira pokes her head into the room, grinning widely and practically vibrating with excitement. She doesn’t say anything, smiling too big to speak, though her gaze implores Lisanna to hurry up, promising pain should she take too long. Lisanna smiles back at her sister, smoothing down her dress one final time and practically skipping towards the door, scooping up her clutch as she goes.
She follows Mira down the steps, taking a deep breath as she glances at the clock, eyes widening when she realizes the dinner is in only an hour. Nerves prick at her skin, Lisanna’s stomach twisting, and she sighs, wishing not for the first time that she could actually see her brother and his fiancée in true color for once.
Her fingers twist through the fabric of her dress, Lisanna sighing as she realizes she might never know its true color, but she slaps on a smile when Mirajane turns around, Laxus waiting for them by the front door, nose wrinkling as he glances at his watch, but he smiles just the slightest when he sees Mira, softening slightly.
Lisanna giggles as Mira skips up to her friend and platonic soulmate, shoving their present for Elfman and Evergreen into his arms without so much as a word before slipping passed him. Laxus blanches, shooting her a nasty look, but it slips into something slightly more fond as he follows her with his eyes.
Lisanna snorts, steeling herself as she follows her sister towards the car, deciding that this is going to be a good night. She’s not going to let anything make this sour for her.
His tie is crooked.
Bixlow wrinkles his nose as he squints at it, trying to figure out where he needs to shift it to make it look right. The knot is sloppy, too loose and the tail end of it is too long. He lifts his hand to his tie, feeling the soft, blue fabric beneath his fingers, his frown only deepening as he smooths it down. Evergreen told him the color matches his hair, the dark blue his favorite color.
Rather, it’s the only fucking shade of blue he can still tolerate at this point. He’s almost positive that he’s going to shave his head and burn half his wardrobe once this soulmate bullshit is finished. He has no love for this color anymore. The blue shades have plagued him for almost fifteen years and it’s very unfortunate that he’s going to have to destroy everything that reminds him of the color one day. It’s all rather depressing, but that’s just how the world works.
He can’t count how many times he’s wanted to punch Laxus for cracking jokes at his expense, though, he can’t really fault the man. Laxus was in his exact position just a few years back, his life nothing but a sea of fucking blue until he met Mira. Bixlow guesses he’d have to make jokes too just to keep himself from going mad.
Everything was fine until he turned ten, the designated age the universe has decided to tell them all “fuck you! you only get color if you spend half your damn life searching for the supposed love of your life!” Yeah, the universe can get fucked. Bixlow’s parents never met their soulmates and they’re perfectly fine! Well, fine might be stretching it, but they haven’t killed each other, so he considers that to be a win.
Rolling his eyes, Bixlow moves to fix his hair, straightening his Mohawk just a bit and deciding he really doesn’t care about the tie. Ever threw it at him twenty minutes ago and told to wear it “or else” and since Bixlow doesn’t feel like dying tonight, he did what she told him to. He loves Ever, he really does, she’s like a sister, but she can be the devil when she wants to be.
Regardless, he’ll wear the stupid tie, but he’s not going to be happy about it. A bowtie he could do, especially if it was a clip on, but he has no patience for the death trap around his throat at the moment. He’s pretty sure Ever only wanted him to wear it so she could choke him out when he inevitably gets piss ass drunk and starts talking about her embarrassing secrets to all o the party guests.
He hopes Elfman can handle it, but then again, he also really doesn’t care. He’s never actually met the guy, which is bullshit because everyone else has. Laxus is buddy-buddy with Mira and gets to go to family night, and Ever was practically living there for a while. During the year Laxus and Freed were dating, he got to go over for dinner. But not Bixlow! Nope! He just gets to sit at home on Fridays and eat cold Mongolian take-out by himself.
If he sounds bitter about never being invited over, that’s because he is.
Hell, Evergreen just kind of sprung the marriage thing on him this morning. He literally found out less than twelve hours ago. At this rate, he’ll probably learn she was pregnant when she’s already in the delivery room. He better be getting a godchild named after him because considering how much he puts up with, he fucking deserves it.
He hates being the fifth wheel, or however many wheels there are at this point. He really can’t keep track anymore, between the soul matches and the non-matched dating pairs. It’s all rather confusing, and he also just doesn’t give a shit. All he knows is that he’s alone and everyone else is off being happy with their match while he’s fighting to keep Laxus’ cousin’s dog from eating all of his cold pizza.
And really, it was kind of a dick move for Lucy to just drop off her dog at seven in the morning on a Saturday. Granted, he did promise to watch the dog for her while she was doing… whatever it was she said she would be doing, but Saturday’s are for nursing hangovers, not dog sitting.
Add to that, Ever springing an engagement party on him while he’s still trying to dog sit, and it’s just been an absolutely shitty Saturday. Lucy is probably going to kill him for shirking his doggy daycare duties, but he couldn’t exactly bring Plue as his plus one.
Bixlow’s beginning to learn that he leads a very lonely existence.
Sighing, he runs a hand down the side of his face, head shaking slightly. He almost wishes he could just skip the dinner, but Ever is like his sister and he’s not going to make her upset tonight. Mostly because he cares about her, but also because she might beat him up for it, and he’d like to live to see tomorrow, thank you very much.
Besides, it won’t be all bad. Free food, good music, pretty guys and girls to flirt with. He could think of worse Saturday nights, if he’s being honest. Besides, not going would require him to sneak out and he’s pretty sure that if he leaves this bathroom Evergreen is going to spot him in an instant and then he’ll have to help set up decorations and Bixlow doesn’t feel like falling on his ass and dying.
There’s only twenty minutes until dinner starts, he’ll be fine. Probably. It’s a very strong maybe.
Groaning to himself, Bixlow again goes back to fiddling with his tie, wishing it wasn’t so blue. Gods, he thinks he’s going to hate his soulmate’s eyes, which is a real shame, considering he’ll probably have to look at them for a good long time, unless he never meets them. Though, he figures they don’t have it much better than he does. A life seen through red eyes would probably get pretty irritating. At least, that’s what Evergreen told him once.
Dear lord, his soulmate might actually just kill him when they meet.
Bixlow blinks rapidly, shaking himself, and takes a deep breath, silently begging for mercy from the gods as he decides he’s been hiding in the bathroom for too long already. The worst that can happen tonight is that he dies, but the chances of that happening are very slim, unless he happens to anger Evergreen. The chances of that happening are significantly higher, but he’s choosing not to think about that at the moment.
Everything will be fine.
It sounds like a lie, he thinks as he pushes away the mirror, giving up on his tie and hair and simply deciding that he’s done the best he can today. He’ll just have to keep his mouth shut and hope for the best. Nodding to himself one more time, Bixlow shoves his hands into the pockets of his jeans and ambles towards the door, shoving it open wide and strolling right into the rented venue, wondering not for the first time how he ended up roped into helping.
Probably because he had nothing better to do. Other than dog sit, of course, but he really couldn’t say no to Evergreen when she was already pulling him out the door, Bixlow practically catatonic after she mentioned her engagement.
Evergreen catches sight of him first, her smile tight as she looks at him, looking pretty in her dress that probably isn’t blue, but considering that’s the only fucking color Bixlow can see at the moment, that’s what he’s going to assume it is. Hell, his tie could be bright orange for all he knows. He could be walking around looking like an idiot and he’d be none the wiser. Though, he knows that isn’t true. Bixlow can tell real blue things from things that only look that color.
He really hates the color blue.
Somehow, Lisanna ends up standing alone towards the back of the room, a glass of red wine in one hand, her fingers curled delicately around the thin stem. The liquid is rich, dark, and the only true color in the room she can see, everything else still tinted with a faint pink hue. The occupants of the room blur together, people chatting animatedly, hands whipping around them, heads thrown back in laughter. From across the room, she can hear Elfman’s deep, booming voice, his words lost on her as he chats with one of Evergreen’s friends, a tall, thin man with long hair. He seems less than interested in what Elfman is saying, but doesn’t stop her brother’s long tirade.
Lisanna sighs, blowing her bangs away from her face and leaning back against the wall. She swirls her drink slowly, making a face at the red liquid and wishing she could see something else for a change. She can’t say that she particularly dislikes the color, given she has nothing else to compare it to, but it becomes taxing after awhile. Grimacing, Lisanna takes a sip of wine, nose wrinkling and eyes narrowing at the taste. She never has liked wine much, the taste a bit much for her, but she doesn’t mind the bitterness tonight.
She meant to have fun tonight. Honestly, she did, but after hours and hours of watching people dance with their soulmates and tell stories of how they met, Lisanna is about ready to just go home and drink the bottle of rum Mira keeps hidden in the cupboard. Though, she thinks she’s probably had enough to drink by now. It’s not enough to make her drunk, but it is enough for her to go from bubbly to bitter in the span of only a few seconds, which is only slightly concerning.
So far, the engagement party hasn’t been anything spectacular, just a lot of drinking and mingling, which isn’t much different from her usual Saturday nights, though she’s not likely to lose her clothes this time, or be roped into a game of bear pong. The night is still young, though, so who knows what might happen.
Her free hand curls around her bicep, fingers drumming against her skin as she casts another look around the room, looking for something even mildly interesting. For a moment, she thinks she sees Natsu across the room, but before Lisanna can push away from the wall for a better look he’s swallowed by the crowed. Lisanna doesn’t miss the grin on his face, his head tilted down as he speaks excitedly to an unfamiliar girl standing beside him, her smile almost as wide as his.
She catches her lip between her teeth, worrying it, and begins to tap her fingers against her arm faster, humming under her breath. She never thought engagement parties would be so… dull? She supposes that’s not quite the right word for it, but she was expecting something a bit more wild. Though, it’s only eight, so there should be time for that later. It’s not really a Strauss party without broken chairs and at least one fight.
“Hi,” someone speaks up from her left, startling her. Lisanna nearly drops her wine glass, but manages to catch it before it can shatter into a billion tiny pieces on the floor. “I’m Mister Right, someone said you were looking for me.”
Bixlow is busy scanning the room for anyone that looks interesting enough to talk to when he spots the bane of his existence. Originally, he was planning to mingle with the important people for an hour or so, find some cute people to flirt with, and, hopefully, duck out of the room with said cute person to make out in the bathroom or something. Unfortunately, the room seems utterly void of cute people. At least of the single variety. Bixlow isn’t really into cheating. He doesn’t get the thrill.
Anyway, he’s about three glasses of rum and coke into the night when he catches sight of Loke fucking Celeste from across the room. He doesn’t understand why Loke’s even here, considering he isn’t friends with Evergreen in the slightest, and he doubts the man is anything short of hostile with Elfman, given Elfman’s overbearing personality and Loke’s inability to not make a sexual pass at anything that moves.
And it’s not that Bixlow hates Loke, but yeah he kind of hates Loke. The guy is a sleaze ball. And he’s definitely not just saying that because Loke cheated him out of five hundred dollars during their last poker match. No, that’s definitely not the reason. Well, it may be part of the reason, but really, Bixlow just can’t stand Loke’s fake charming personality and his shitty pick-up lines that should never work, but somehow do because Loke has the face of a God chiseled from marble.
Bixlow would probably make-out with him if he didn’t hate him so much.
Loke is too busy making eyes at someone to notice Bixlow glowering at him, but that doesn’t stop Bixlow from mentally calling the other man names. He would pick a fight if it weren’t for the occasion. He really should pick a fight at an engagement party, but it’s bound to happen at some point. It’s, evidentially, not a Strauss party unless someone has a chair smashed over their head, or so he’s been told.
He follows Loke’s line of sight to a pretty girl standing on the fringe of the crowd, looking lonely with her glass of wine and her blue dress. And it’s blue blue, not tinged blue like everything else in the room, which is a curiosity in itself. For some reason, it gains his attention, though he thinks it should be a turnoff, really. He’s so sick of blue at this point, but it looks nice on her. It’s a good color, not too dark but not icy either.
Bixlow takes a deep breath, making a split second decision that’s mostly based on spite and the amount of alcohol he’s had, but also because she’s cute, and takes a step towards the girl. Then another, and another, until he’s right next to her, slightly smug because eat a dick, Loke, but then he realizes he has no idea what the hell he’s supposed to say.
He’s usually better at this whole flirting thing, but that’s usually only when the other person is making eyes back at him. For all he knows, this girl might want to be left the hell alone.
Opening his mouth, Bixlow decides to say the stupidest thing he can think of in that moment, channeling his inner Loke charm.
Lisanna’s head snaps up, her eyes wide as they lock with a pair of red eyes that are both strange and also entirely familiar to her. For a moment, everything around her goes white, and then red, and then suddenly she’s staring at a stranger, a dull ache forming behind her eyes, annoying, but not painful. She sucks in a sharp breath, blinking rapidly, and notices the man doing the same, like there’s dust in his eyes. The room seems to shrink and then grow large again, her world expanding as colors bleed into the room, the pink tint morphing into a thousand different colors that Lisanna can only vaguely remember from her childhood before she turned ten.
She can’t do anything but gape at him, overwhelmed, and also appalled by the shitty but scarily accurate pickup line he just said to her.
Bixlow, meanwhile, has no idea why she’s staring at him like that, all big, blue eyes full of wonder and something like confusion and terror swirling through her gaze. He, personally, thought that line could have been a lot worse. It wasn’t as cliché as the fall from heaven variety of lines, and it wasn’t as dirty as some of the others he could have used. It was harmless, if not stupid.
His vision blurs for a moment, but he attests that to the alcohol. He blinks to clear away the fuzzy dots in his vision, and when he opens them again, nothing has changed. She’s still all blue eyes and blue dress, and he shouldn’t like that on principle, but he’s finding that he doesn’t hate it on her.
The girl doesn’t say anything to him, only blinks like she can’t believe he’s standing there.
Lisanna considers pinching herself as her gaze slips from his to the sudden sea of color forming behind him, his broad shoulders partly blocking out her view of the party. Inevitably, her eyes slide back to his, entranced by the deep red of his eyes. It’s the only color she’s been able to see for years and somehow it’s one thing that keeps drawing her attention now, though she should be loath to look at it any longer.
He’s her soulmate. She blinks, unable to process it. This random guy is her soulmate, and she’s acting like she’s seeing the moon for the first time, utterly stunned and speechless.
Bixlow wets his lips, trying to figure out why she’s staring at him like that when they’ve only just met. He bites his lip, fingers running through his hair awkwardly as he forces himself to look away from her. His shirt sleeve slips down, revealing the tattoo on his wrist, and he goes very still when he sees it. The colors staring back at him aren’t the familiar blue, but an amazing assortment of color that he can only vaguely remember.
He can see in color again.
His gaze snaps back to hers, his eyes blown wide and his mouth dropping open in shock. He tries to speak, but his tongue sticks to his mouth and all he can do is sputter out something unintelligible.
“Bixlow,” he manages to blurt after an awkward moment. “I think you were looking for me.”
It surprises a laugh out of her. The girl raises her free hand to her mouth, hiding her red painted lips behind her hand. “Lisanna,” she tells him, a little impish. “And I was definitely looking for you.”
Three months, seventeen dates, and a Strauss wedding later, Bixlow decides that blue is definitely his favorite color.

Finding Marley: The Story So Far...
As a lot of you will already know Finding Marley was the first story I ever published on Tumblr. It was how I got my blog started and without it I wouldn’t be where I am today 🙂 I used to update the story every day or so, however over the past few weeks I’ve been lacking inspiration to write and to post 😞 But!! Over the last few days I’ve begun queuing up the next posts and hopefully the updates will stay regular until the story inevitably ends 😞
Because my posts have been so irregular lately I’ve realised that some people may have forgotten some details of what has already happened 🙂 aaaaand of course I don’t expect you to reread it all again!! (unless you want to of course!) So, I’ve put together a post basically recapping the entire story so far from:
Prologue
Act 1
Act 2
So if you’re needing a refresher, keep reading! The recap also outlines links I intended their to be in the story. Or if you’d like you can read from the beginning, here!
Note: If you’re new to the story and have never read it before you can totally read this to catch up if you’d like, but I would strongly suggest reading the story from the beginning properly if you have the time; I believe it only takes about 30-45 minutes, if that!! 🙂 the mixture of the music, the screenshots, and the dialogue is what makes Finding Marley, Finding Marley 🙂 (can you tell that it’s my baby?? lmao xD)
May 2007: Willow Creek, Louisiana
28 year old Nick Wiley retells the story of how he met and fell in love with Marley Holbrook.
“I am twenty-eight years old, not too old, but old enough to be lonely. I had been in love once, that I knew. Once and only once, and a long time ago. And it had changed me forever. Perfect love does that to a man, and this had definitely been perfect.”
10 Years Earlier...
The Prologue: June 1997: Willow Creek, Louisiana
18 year old Nick Wiley meets 17 year old Louisianan heiress Marley Holbrook at the Bayou Carnival, through his two best-friends Reuben and Jenna.
“As I shook her hand and met her eyes, I knew that she was the one I would spend the rest of my life looking for but never find again.”
Nick fondly recalls the summer that they fell in love; from their first day to their last.
“By late August the best of the summer had gone, but the new fall hadn’t begun. We spent our last days on the grass under the trees of Magnolia Blossom Park. We spent hours talking about our dreams- mine of seeing the world, Marley’s of photographing it. Suddenly all the things that ever troubled me seemed far away and unimportant: all that mattered was the touch of Marley’s hand in mine. And so, on a humid evening in late August, under the stars, I proposed.
When she left town two days later, she took a piece of me and the last few days of summer with her.”
The Prologue: August 1997: Willow Creek, Louisiana
We learn that although Marley accepted Nick’s proposal, her parents refused to accept their marriage. Distraught and sick of her structured, silver-spoon upbringing, Marley suggests the two of them move to San Myshuno, California. As much as he wants to go with her, Nick decides to remain in Willow Creek to look after his aging father and their business; something which Nick never actually admits to his father.
“My Mother passed away when I was just four years old, and ever since then my dad had taken care of me- he taught me everything that mattered. But now, it was my turn to take care of him. I couldn’t just up and leave for California.
I didn’t like that my Dad blamed Marley for leaving, but I couldn’t live if he’d blamed himself for me not following her.”
Act 1: May 2007: Willow Creek, Louisiana
Nick reveals that he eventually did go to California to find Marley, 3 years after she left; 2000. The year is now 2007 and Nick intends to look for her one final time.
The night before Nick leaves for San Myshuno he has dinner with his old friends Jenna and Rebuen, who are now engaged and have a daughter; Lennox, together. Nick reveals that he’s ready to settle down, and the only woman he can imagine settling down with his Marley. Jenna and Nick’s father warn Nick that Marley may not be how he remembers her. Nick remains hopeful.
Act 1: May 2007: San Myshuno, California
During a conversation (as well as a flashback) between Marley and her bestfriend, Alma Komine, we learn that Marley met someone in 1998, Andrew Proust; a well-to-do Investment Banker from Cambridgeshire. The pair first met in Andrew’s senior year of college at a party, and was immediately drawn to her. But sensing that she still harboured feelings for someone else, didn't ask her out until several years later. During Marley and Alma’s (present day) conversation it becomes clear that Marley still has unresolved feelings for Nick.
Nick arrives in San Myshuno but struggles to track Marley down; there are 36 Marlene Holbrooks in San Myshuno alone, so he calls them all up. Meanwhile Andrew and Marley are out on a date. Upon returning from their date Andrew checks their answering machine only to find a message from Marley’s old fiance, Nick Wiley, asking to meet her.
We learn that Marley never told Andrew about her being previously engaged, upon finding out Andrew flies into a rage; disappearing for several days.
Meanwhile Nick and Marley meet up in the city. Nick is upset to find out that Marley has moved on from him; they blame eachother for their breakup. Eventually the pair reconcile and agree to see eachother one last time before Nick returns to Willow Creek, Louisiana. However, Andrew appears just in time to catch the pair embracing. He leaves without a word, Marley and Nick unaware.
Andrew goes to the bar that his best friend, Mira Vecoli, works at. We learn that he’s been staying at her apartment for the past few days. Although it’s never explicitly acknowledged, this post suggests that perhaps Mira has feelings for Andrew.
Andrew returns Marley the following day, but the two argue over where he’s been. He later announces an unexpected business trip to Los Angeles and leaves just before Marley goes to meet Nick for their final goodbye.
Nick and Marley go to a restaurant and they talk about why their relationship fell apart. In this post we see a glimpse of what could’ve been. During their dinner Nick recieves a phone call from Reuben telling him that Nick’s father has been rushed to hospital; and he may not make it. Both tragically and ironically, it is Nick’s father yet again that unknowingly seperates him from Marley, just like in 1997.
Nick and Marley spend Nick’s final night in San Myshuno in a hotel room drinking and watching their favourite movie; Casablanca. We see a flashback to the first time they watched it at a drive-in movie theatre in 1997; noteably this was also the first time they said ‘I love you.’
They awake the next day in bed together. Marley immediately worries that they slept together, but Nick reassures her that nothing happened. As the two leave the hotel, Andrew’s bestfriend’s Mira and Natalia spot them...
Marley takes Nick to the airport and they say their goodbyes. Marley thanks Nick for ‘Finding Her.’ And promises him that the next time she goes to Willow Creek, she’ll look him up.
4 Months later...
Act 2: September 2007, Willow Creek: Louisiana (present day)
Act 2 opens with Nick leaving flowers at his mothers grave. But a unknown woman finds him and tells him “It’s time to go home, Nick.” Consquently Nick drives home, but as he drives he sees Marley in the street; we quickly realize that it’s just his imagination.
Nick arrives home and we learn that his father is now wheelchair-bound, and that Nick has bought an old-abandoned house that he’s fixing up. Nick’s dad gives Nick a letter from Marley; the two have kept in touch since he left.
We then meet Marley’s mother, Blanche Holbrook, who pays Nick a visit later that night. She reveals that Marley is coming back to Willow Creek for 2 whole weeks for her little sister, Viola Holbrook’s wedding. Blanche warns Nick to stay away from Marley.
Marley arrives in Willow Creek and we meet her family. It quickly becomes clear that Marley and her sisters don’t get on particularly well with their parents. eg. their parents refuse to call Erin’s girlfriend, her girlfriend, instead referring to her as friend. We then learn that Marley and Andrew are still together, but he’s still in San Myshuno because of work; but he’ll be coming back ‘in time for the rehearsal dinner.’
During a conversation (and a flashback) between Nick and Reuben it is revealed that the house Nick has bought was the house that Marley wanted them to live in when they got married. The house was about to be condemned and knocked down, so Nick bought it in order to save it. Reuben thinks Nick is crazy.
Marley and her family go to a wedding dress fitting in the town only for her to run into Jenna, one of Nick’s bestfriends. Jenna tells Marley that Nick will be at the hospital. Marley rushes to the hospital to find a very sickly and bedridden Tyler Wylie (Nick’s dad). In a drugged state Tyler reveals to Marley that Nick has never gotten over her, and most likely never will. We then see that Nick was easedropping on the conversation. In a heated exchange in the hallway, Nick and Marley come close to kissing, before a nurse interupts them. After Tyler’s check-up is over Marley asks Nick if she can have dinner at his house.
Meanwhile...
Act 2: September 2007, San Myshuno: California (present day)
Meanwhile, Andrew, Mira and Natalia are hanging out in the bar that Mira works at. Andrew reveals that he is going to ask Marley to marry him, in hopes that being married will ‘fix their problems.’ It is also revealed that Andrew lied about having to work, he actually just doesn’t like Marley’s family. Mira becomes riled up over Andrew’s engagment announcment and tells him about the day that she and Natalia saw Nick and Marley coming out of a hotel downtown.
Act 2: September 2007, Willow Creek: Louisiana (present day)
Back in Louisiana Nick brings Marley back to his house, the house that he bought and restored for her. Overwhelmed with emotion the two end up kissing. Meanwhile the Holbrook’s are all gathered for a dinner party, a dinner party that Marley is missing. Worried for Marley’s safety, Erin calls her.
Nick ends their kiss before things can progress.
“You have no idea how long I’ve waited for this moment... But this isn’t right. I’m not willing to share you, you’re either all mine, or not mine at all... You have to choose.”
“I want to sit out on that porch with you Marley. I want to build you your studio. I want us to... have a future. I want me and you, forever, everyday. It’s all I’ve ever wanted... Is that something you can give me?”
Before Marley can answer she is interupted by Erin’s phone call. Nick drives Marley home and kisses her on the cheek outside her house. Marley’s mother, Blanche, spots them through the window. Marley, her mother and her father have an explosive argument over her future, only for Marley’s sister, Viola to lash out at her parents, “You two just had to drive her away again, didn’t you?”
Marley and Viola go upstairs and Marley tells Viola about her kiss with Nick. Marley gives us more insight into Nick and his inability to live in the present.
Act 2: September 2007, San Myshuno: California (present day)
Andrew and Mira are out by the docks and Andrew is finishing a cigarette. It becomes clear that Mira harbors some kind of feelings for Andrew, as they embrace, Andrew’s mind flashes to an image of Marley. He leaves Mira by the docks telling her “I’m going to the airport.”
Act 2: September 2007, Willow Creek: Louisiana (present day)
The next day Nick is on his hamock on the porch of his house. He is approached by the same unknown woman from the opening of Act 2. We learn that her name is Stella, and she and Nick dated “on and off” after Marley left in 1997, though clearly it didn’t work out.
Marley’s car pulls up to Nick’s house as he and Stella share a laugh, it becomes clear that Marley is jealous. Nick encourages Stella to leave and he takes Marley to see ‘her surprise’. Nick takes Marley on a canoe ride on the same river that they canoed down in 1997. After the boat ride they walk around the park and Marley questions Nick about Stella and their history, however Nick becomes aggrivated and refuses to elaborate.
In a flashback labelled “January 2001, Oasis Springs: Arizona” we see a young Nick and Stella in the desert, presumably on some sort of vaction. Stella asks Nick if he still thinks about Marley, to which he doesn’t reply. Stella tells him, “You’re a walking tragedy, Nick Wiley.” It’s suggested that Stella and Nick’s relationship fell apart because he couldn’t move on from Marley.
Back in the present day, 2007, Andrew arrives in Willow Creek.
#wow that took longer than I expected xD#I've just been worried about continuity#I know it's been a little while since I posted regularly :)#I'll probably put this up on my resources page for a little while :)

Firsts.12
"I cannot believe that you live off this stuff."
"Why can't you believe that?" Bickslow asked as he and Lisanna walked along, each with a large paper bag in their hands loaded down with groceries. Err, less groceries and more cupcakes, cookies, candy, and anything else remotely sweet. "You know that I don't cook. So I buy things that I don't need to cook."
"Bickslow, you're gonna, like, die of a sugar overload," she said.
"What? Nah."
"Yeah," she insisted. "This is probably why you're always so hyped up. You have too much sugar in you. I bet you'd, like, crash or something if you went a day without any of this stuff."
"No," he said, shaking his helmeted head. "When I'm out on jobs, I ain't got nothing sweet and I'm fine."
"I bet you're super annoying though. Grumpy and stuff."
"Me? Grumpy? Lissy, have you met me?"
"I've met this you," she said. "But- Hey, isn't that Laxus?"
Turning, Bickslow glanced across the road to the man her girlfriend was pointing out. Sure enough, it was Laxus, who had his own sack of groceries. The problem though was that the bag had ripped and all of the stuff had spilled everywhere.
Needless to say, as they walked over there, they heard the utmost of colorful language. A woman walking by with her young son took to throwing her hands over the boy's ears and giving Laxus a look. He only snarled at her until she scurried off.
"Laxus," Lisanna greeted as she got to him. "Need some help?"
"No, I do not need fucking-" He stopped when he saw who it was, looking up at their approach. Bickslow's dolls had taken to circling around his head and, when the man raised his hand, their master got spooked and yelled for them to get back. Laxus only frowned.
"I was just going to do this," he grumbled, reaching out to pat Lisanna on the head, his usual greeting. "Not shoot lightening at them or something."
"Oh," Bickslow said as Lisanna sat her own sack of groceries down and began gathering up the few of Laxus' that had spilled.
"Here," she said, going to put them in her own sack. "We'll help you out. Where were you going? Your apartment?"
"No," Laxus said slowly. "Your house."
"You shop for Mirajane?" Bickslow took to snickering.
"Don't you always say that shopping is woman's work?" Lisanna asked, taking to giggling too. That time when Laxus flexed, they both knew what he was doing.
"Ah, no, Laxus, we were just-"
"It was a joke!"
And that's how Poppo got turned into apple (Lisanna was insisted that Bickslow buy something healthy) for the duration of their trip to the Strauss household.
"I can't believe that he shot my babies," Bickslow complained as, after dropping Laxus and all his stuff off, they headed back home. "I mean, seriously."
"You know that he can't take teasing."
"Yeah, I know."
When they got home, Lisanna went to work putting all the groceries away while Bickslow went to work making Poppo a new body.
"Papa needs a new diet," Lisanna complained to the dolls as she began putting away all of his different packs of cookies and stuff. "Don't you think?"
"Think," Puppu repeated as he came to rest on her head. "Think."
"Lisanna," Pappa was complaining as he dashed around, annoyed that Puppu was in his spot. "Lisanna."
She only ignored them though as she finished with the groceries. "I think, though, that the only way to get him to eat something other than this junk is if I make him something. Did you know that? I can cook."
"Lisanna can cook," Pippi agreed, zipping around the kitchen at a fast speed. He almost hit her, but luckily she dodged him.
"Be careful, Pippi," she complained, heading then into the living room. "Honestly."
When she sat down on the couch, Pappa dove quickly for her lap, as if to best Puppu.
"Lisanna," the doll said as she only sighed slightly. It was like taking care of five children. Five annoying children. They were all in constant need of attention. Pretty much like Bickslow.
"Alright, the paint just has to dry," the man said some time later when he came out of the bedroom. "Then you got a new body, Poppo."
The apple was still dashing around and, fearful that he'd hit a wall or something and get smashed apple bits everywhere, Bickslow went to grab him.
"You go sit with Lissy too, huh?" he said, setting him in her lap. The other dolls were over there then, resting close to her. "'fore you break something."
He sat with her as well, Bickslow did. Lisanna only smiled as he threw an arm around her.
"So what else is on the agenda for today?' she asked him. "Now that we went to the store?"
"Before Poppo got broke, I thought that we'd go train a little."
"I thought you and Freed usually train in the morning?"
"Not me and Freed, Lissy. Me and you."
"Me and you?" she repeated.
"Me and you?" the babies chirped.
"Yeah." Bickslow reached out to poke her nose gently. "Me and you. Don't you ever train?"
"Sure. With Elf. But I'm not… I mean, you probably train a lot harder than me. I bet-"
'Then I'll do your training as my warm up," he said with a slight shrug. "Open with a run, spar some. That your usual workout?"
"Well, running is a little harsh," she said. "I mean-"
"Never mind," he sighed. "If you don't wanna-"
"No," she insisted then, feeling something come over her. She knew how Bickslow was. He thought that weak people weren't worth his time. You had to be the best of the best to be a part of the Thunder Legion. Or his girlfriend, she figured. "We can train. I'll do whatever you want."
Frowning slightly, he glanced down at her. "You don't gotta, Lissy. Me and the babies, we just-"
"We can go for a run," she told him. "How far do you usually run?"
When he told her, Lisanna's jaw about hit the ground. Noticing this, he only shrugged.
"You just run till you can't, huh? And I'll be with you the whole way," he said. "Then we'll go from there."
So when Poppo's new body finally dried, they headed to the Strauss house so Lisanna could change into something to work out in. They ran into Laxus, who was in the kitchen, making something.
"You can't eat here tonight," he told Lisanna gruffly as they came in through the backdoor. When he saw who she was with, he frowned. "Never mind. Stay."
"I'm not running whatever weird dinner thing you're doing for Mirajane, Laxus," she told him as Bickslow went to go get a glass of water in preparation for their workout. The babies all stayed far away from Laxus though, as none of them wanted to get struck again.
"No, you can," he insisted. "In fact, stay home. And Bickslow? Get out."
"Yes, sir." He turned to head for the door. "Come on, babies. Let's-"
"Bickslow," Lisanna complained. "Honestly?"
"Lisanna, he has shown that he has no problem with breaking their bodies. I might have a bunch in case of emergencies, but what if he keeps shattering them? Huh? Then I run out and have to go out and buy more? Then what? Then-"
'If you shoot one of the babies, Laxus, I'll tell Mirajane," Lisanna threatened before starting out of the room. "And I'm going back home with Bickslow tonight."
"Are not," he grumbled.
"Are too. And we're totally going to-"
"Lisanna!" Bickslow complained as Laxus glared at him. "Knock it off!"
When she got to her bedroom, she was quick to change before heading out. She didn't really want Laxus to hurt any of the dolls. Or her boyfriend for that matter. When she got back to the kitchen though, she found it to be empty, save her sister's boyfriend, who was sticking something in the oven.
"Uh, Laxus?"
Grunt.
"Where's Bickslow?"
"I made him wait outside."
"Laxus-"
"You don't gotta eat dinner with him tonight," he grumbled. "You can eat with me and Mira, if you wanna. I-"
"He's my boyfriend, Laxus."
"…Haven't you ever heard of abstinence?"
"Laxus-"
He only huffed, glancing back at her. "What are you two idiots doing anyways? Right now?"
"We're going to workout together."
Snort. Then he glanced out the glass backdoor, staring at Bickslow who was out there, jumping around in no doubt excitement over working out.
"You know, you were the one talking about how you had all these other guys for me to date," Lisanna said softly, watching him.
"Yeah, but I wouldn't want them sleeping with you either."
"Why does it bother you so much?"
"I don't know," he grumbled. "It just does. And Bickslow's… I just don't like it."
"You sound like Elf."
That got another snort. Then Laxus went back to chopping some vegetables.
"Stay away from the house tonight then," he told her. "Don't care. I'm making up with your sister. I already told your brother the same thing."
"Making up?'
"Don't play. You know that we haven't been… That the past few days we've been fighting."
"That for the past week you've been a jerk?"
"Lisanna-"
"So you're making her dinner?"
"Of course. She won't come over to my apartment, so I figured when she got off, if I surprised her with dinner and was all attractive and shit, she'll have to forgive me."
Lisanna blinked. "Attractive?"
He nodded. "She likes it when I'm in my undershirt and-"
"Ew, ew, ew. I don't wanna hear about you and-"
"And you think I do you and Bickslow? No. So stop talking about it and I won't mention this again." His back was to her, but she was pretty sure he was as red in the face as she was. "Deal?"
"Deal."
When she got outside to Bickslow, he immediately tossed his arms around her.
"I thought he had, like, locked you away or something," he said.
"Well, you were the one that was so willing to just ditch me."
"A lot of things went into that decision, Lissy."
"And you decided upon all of them in less than a minute?"
"My brain runs at, like, a thousand mile per minute. Swear."
"I believe you," she said as he only released her before moving to tap the pendant resting above her breasts gently. After giggling, she said, "Now let's go for this run, huh?"
"Kid, next time just tell me that I'm pushing you too far."
"I'm fine," Lisanna mumbled against the cool sheets of his bed. "Peachy. That? That was hardly a workout. I… Bickslow?"
"Hmmm?" He only stood over the bed, staring down at his girlfriend.
"Can you get me some aspirin or something?"
"Sure, kid."
Lisanna only sighed, rolling slowly onto her back. While they had been out there, working out, she'd more or less reached her usual limit. But she'd decided to push herself. Because how bad could it get?
…But then she pushed herself even more. And more. And more. And then, well, she kinda just gave out.
Bickslow thought it was real funny at first. They had been sparring and, when he swept her legs out from under her and she fell, he'd only taken her fall as one of her normal ones. She'd actually been taken down by him every time previous. But then she just laid out there in the empty field and didn't move.
"Get up," he'd said. "Lissy?"
So she did. Again. And again. And even when he wanted to race back to the house, still full of an amazing amount of energy, she went along with him. Because how could she say no? And be weak? He was only sweating a little and she was beyond exhausted, but he valued strength.
She wanted him to value her.
When they got to the apartment, she just went and dropped onto the bed, planning on never getting up again.
"Here you go, Lissy." He was back then, with a glass of water and two pills. When she took them, he only said, "Me and the babies are all keyed up now, huh? So we're gonna go workout some more."
"'kay."
"You need me to do anything for you?"
"Nope."
He grinned at her then. "You did great today. Really. And tomorrow will be even better?"
She didn't have the heart to tell him that there wouldn't be a tomorrow.
When Bickslow got back home that night, it was to find Lisanna in the bathroom, soaking in the tub. He only went in there as well.
"I brought you some takeout," he told her simply as she sat in the water, hardly glancing at him. "I already ate though, so your stuffs in the kitchen when you want it."
She was about to say alright…until he started stripping down too.
Lisanna only stared straight ahead as Bickslow slowly moved to get into the cramped tub with her. They'd had sex, fine, slept in bed together naked, okay, but they'd never bathed together. Ever.
But he had no qualms about it, so she tried to put it out of her mind. He only sunk into the water with a slight sigh.
"I like showers," he told her then. "But this is nice too."
The awkward moment didn't come, really, until Lisanna got out of the bathtub and he stayed in. She felt odd, being so stark naked in front of him for some reason, but Bickslow had taken to washing at that point and only stole a few glances at her.
"Food's on the counter, Lissy," he called out to her after she was toweled off and dressed.
"Thanks."
The babies were waiting for her out in the living room. She was used to her muscles being sore, like, a day after doing something strenuous, but at the moment, the pain was immediate and she wasn't up for them slamming into her.
"Enough," she sighed as they took to their usual greeting, which involved pelting her with their bodies. "Please."
After getting the takeout box from the kitchen and heating it up a little, she took it back with her to the living room where she collapsed on the couch.
"Lisanna," the babies cried, landing all around her. "Lisanna."
"I'm fine. Just tired."
"Meow, meow," Poppo told her, as he had since she transformed into her cat animal spirit earlier in the day, when her and his papa were sparring. "Meow, meow."
"I agree, Poppo."
Bickslow was coming out of the bathroom then, only in a pair of boxers, and nodded his head approvingly.
"Lissy is a very attractive cat," Bickslow said. "The little ears, the paws. Very sexy."
"Meow, meow."
"Meow," his master repeated. Lisanna only rolled her eyes.
"We're not doing anything tonight, Bickslow," she told him as he came over to the couch, lifting her feet so he could sit down before dropping them back in his lap. "I'm too-"
"It's cool, kid," he said as he began to mess with her foot. She thought he was trying to tickle it and tried to kick away, but he held tight. "Just relax, huh? Me and the babies, we shouldn't have run you so ragged. I could tell you were tired, but I kept it up. I'm sorry."
"I'm not some frail person, Bickslow," she told him with a frown. "I'm a mage. I-"
"I know, Lissy. But still."
She wanted to argue, but, well…what he was doing to her feet did feel rather nice. And she was kinda tired. So she let him continue as she only sat there, eating, as the Poppo kept meowing, Pappa was whining that Pippi and Peppe was in his other spot, on her tummy, and Puppu rested on Bickslow's shoulder, ignoring the other dolls as his papa just kept messaging her feet.
They must have spent an hour or so doing that, just killing time. Eventually they all moved to the bedroom, where Pappa immediately took to snuggling up to her before the other dolls could. She only rolled her eyes though, watching as Bickslow crawled into bed as well.
"I think Pappa's jealous."
"Aw, he just likes you, that's all. Huh, Pappa? You just like Lissy, don't you?"
"Don't you?" the other dolls seemed to mock.
"Like Lissy," Pappa agreed, unabashed. "Like Lissy."
"That's okay," he assured his doll as he snuggled up to Lisanna as well, making the woman giggle. "I like her too."
"You sure are perky today."
"No more than usual," Mirajane told Erza as she sat a plate of food in front of the other woman. The red head only eyed her suspiciously from her spot at the bar.
"Is that so?"
"Mmmhmm."
"Because you've been humming incessantly this entire time-"
"She's just happy that Laxus and her made up last night."
The two women glanced up as they were joined by Mira's younger sister, who practically fell into one of the stools at the bar.
"Hi, Lisanna," Mira greeted, giggling slightly at her words. "And what do you know about that then, hmmm?"
"I saw Laxus going shopping, before, and stopped by the house to get some stuff while he was cooking," she sighed as she moved to rest her head against the bar. Frowning then, Mirajane reached out to pat her on the head.
"You okay? You're not sick or anything, are you?"
"No," she sighed. "Just tired."
"From?" Erza prompted, staring worriedly down at her as well.
"Bickslow."
Erza's face turned about the shade of her hair then as Mirajane only blinked.
"L-Lisanna-"
"I mean…" She was blushing then too, sitting up slightly. "We were training yesterday. That's all. And I might have pushed it a little."
"O-Oh," Erza said, glancing at Mirajane who only let out a soft sigh. "He trains hard then, I take it?"
"Very," she said, making a face before resting her head against the bar again. "And I only wanted to keep up. But ugh, he's too much for me."
Giggling then, Mirajane reached out to pat her sister on the head one last time.
"He is quite energetic," Erza agreed.
"Very," she sighed. "Though I think that has more to do with what he eats."
"What do you mean?" Mira asked.
"All he eats is, like, sugary stuff. Constantly."
"Makes sense," she agreed before going to get her sister a glass of water. She always refused to serve her alcohol for whatever reason. Ugh. Everyone loved when Mira worked, but Lisanna far preferred Kinana.
"I wanted to, like, make him dinner or something," she said then. "But I wouldn't know what to make him."
"What does he like?"
"Anything, I think," she told her sister. "He just kinda shovels food in his mouth."
More giggles. Then Mirajane said, "My lunch break is in an hour. What if we go to the store and we can find something you can make him?"
"I want to do it myself, Mira. Like Laxus did for you."
"You can," she assured her. "I'll just help you pick some stuff out. That's all."
So that's what they did. And Lisanna felt kinda bad about running Mira's break, but her big sister only assured her that it was fine. She even helped her carry the groceries back to Bickslow's apartment.
"He already gave you a key?" Mira asked, shocked.
"No," Lisanna sighed. "He just never locks the door."
Widening her eyes, she said, "Perhaps you should keep that quiet, hmmm?"
When they got into his place, Mirajane helped her younger sister start on the meal before giving her a few instructions and heading back into work. It was the first time she'd been in Bickslow's place and, against Lisanna' better judgment, she let Mira look around some.
"I just have to make sure that you're, you know, safe here."
"By peeking into his bathroom?"
"Well, I thought you'd yell at me if I went through his dresser drawers."
"Mira, get out!"
Once she was finally alone in the apartment, Lisanna set out on making the meal. It wasn't hard. In fact, it was already cooking in the oven by the time Bickslow showed up.
"What smells?" he asked as the babies dove towards the couch where she was sitting, reading a book.
"I made you something."
"Ah, cool!" He was excited immediately, closing the door behind him. "Is it a cake? Cookies? Ice cream?"
"Who bakes ice cream, Bickslow?"
He only stood there, knocking his helmet off his head as he stared at her.
"What is it? A pie?"
"I made us dinner, silly," she told him. "So calm down."
"Dinner, huh?" He went to set his helmet down on the coffee table before joining her on the couch. "What sorta dinner?"
"A casserole."
"Hmmm. And there's no cake?"
"Bickslow-"
"Anyhow," he said as he moved to take her book from her hands, ignoring the woman's protests as he sat it near his helmet. "Me and the babies had a good workout. You think that you'll wanna go with us tomorrow, maybe?"
"No," she complained. "Yesterday was enough for me. Just like I told you."
"Aw, Lissy." He wrapped his arms around her, keeping her from reaching out to grab that pesky book again. "I won't work you out so hard again. I promise."
"Bickslow-"
"We'll just go for a little run, yeah? And then only do some sit-ups and pushups. Then-"
"Do you really think I'm weak?"
He frowned at that as the babies who were in her lap only repeated the question.
"Think she's weak?" they asked Bickslow. "Papa?"
"No," he said, frowning. "What is it with you and that word, huh? I have never said that, Lisanna."
"I just-"
"You're as strong as you need to be, kid." He nuzzled against her neck. "I just like training with someone. And I like you. So common sense would lead to me to putting two and two together."
"I just don't see us as compatible. To work out together."
"But it's like I told you, kid. I'll workout with you until you get tired, then I'll just go on without you. Like the first day."
"Yeah, but won't that annoy you? That I'm-"
"You ain't gotta be as strong as me. Or workout as much as me. Have as much stamina or whatever. Me and the babies don't care none. Do we, babies?"
"No," they all agreed as Pappa took to the air to land on her head, apparently not liking have to share her lap with the others. "No, Papa."
"The princess can't be stronger than the knight anyhow," he told her softly as he rested his forehead against the side of hers. "Else she wouldn't need him."
That night when they finally got down to eating, Lisanna found that it didn't matter what she made Bickslow. He engulfed it with the same gusto as he did everything.
"Slow down," she complained as they sat with their legs crossed on his bed together, their plates of food between them. "You're gonna choke. And don't you ever just enjoy anything?"
"It's great, Lissy," he said after swallowing what was in his mouth. Reaching behind him, he grabbed his glass of water off the night stand. "Real great."
"I spent all that time on it, Bickslow. You could at least-"
"I do like it. It tastes good," he insisted. "What do you want me to do? Savor it?"
"Well, I wouldn't hate it."
He only grinned though as the babies all around laughed.
"Don't get all girly on us now," he warned. "And besides, I'm glad that you made it for me. You can cook for me for the rest of your life, if you wanna."
"Trust me, I don't."
'That's okay too. Just this once was great. Anything else would just be overkill."
"You're so stupid."
"Maybe," he agreed making her smile. He could always do that. No matter how annoyed she was with him, just a few words from his mouth and she'd be grinning again like it was nothing.
Just then though, there was a knock at the front door, running their moment.
"Is that a delivery man with my cake?"
"There is no cake," Lisanna complained as Bickslow rushed to the door. "I never even mentioned one. You did."
"Bet it's our cake, babies."
"There isn't a-"
But then he was at the door and opening it…only to find a weeping Elfman.
"Is Lisanna here?" the man asked through tears. "I need to see her."
"Lissy," Bickslow called as he took a step back then, letting the man in. But she had already heard, all the way from the bedroom, and was rushing in to find out what was up.
"Elf," she said as she rushed to his side, Bickslow's babies following. "What's going on? Are you hurt? Is Mirajane? What?"
"It's Evergreen," he sobbed as she took to grabbing one of his arms and pulling him over to the couch.
"Ever?' Bickslow seemed shocked as he shut the front door. "She's hurt? Where's she at? Where-"
"No," he wailed. "It…it… She kicked me out!"
Lisanna blinked before her shock made her sit down on the couch as well.
"Come again?" she asked as Bickslow only took to frowning at the man.
"We got into a fight again," Elfman insisted. "And she kicked me out. But when I tried to go home, Laxus was there, again, and said that he and Mirajane couldn't go back to his place for some reason and that I wasn't allowed in the house. I was going to fight him, but he told me that it didn't matter. If I stayed, he'd still…still…"
"Still what?" Bickslow asked.
"Still…" He glanced at Lisanna before blushing slightly. "You know. Still do…naughty things to Mira even if I was around. And that they'd be real loud about it!"
Apparently, the deal was only between Lisanna and Laxus, Elfman not being included.
Lisanna shared his blush. "Well, why'd you come here?"
"'cause I don't have nowhere to go. And I guess I could stay in a motel, but then Ever would think I was with a woman and then we'll just keep fighting and-"
"You wanna stay here?" she asked in shock. "Elfman-"
"You can have the couch," Bickslow said then making his girlfriend glance at him. He only shrugged. "There's some casserole in the kitchen too. Just don't mess anything up."
"O-Okay," Elfman said slowly. Then the tattooed man took to snickering.
"I'm just messing with you. Mess anything up you want! It's a free-for-all!" Then, after his babies got excited and started laughing too, Bickslow sobered. "But there is one rule."
"What's that?"
"You gotta train with me in the morning, since Lissy's too tired. Deal?"
Elfman glanced at his sister, but she only shrugged.
"Deal," Elfman said.
"Great." Then Bickslow headed off to his bedroom before returning with his plate. "I'mma get some more casserole, Lissy. You better come get your share, Elfman, before I eat it all."
"Bickslow," Lisanna hissed as, after making sure Elfman was okay, they both went to his bedroom. "What was that?"
"I don't know, Lissy. You're the one that made it, not me. I thought you said it was cass-"
"Not the food, Bickslow. With Elfman," she clarified. "Why were you being so nice to him?"
"Because," he said with a shrug. "I know what it's like to be intimidated by both Ever and Laxus. More Laxus than Ever, but she's pretty dang scary too."
"Yeah, but-"
"It's one night, Lisanna," Bickslow said with a shrug as he and the babies went to fall back into bed. "What's the worse that can happen?"
"Uh, gee, Mirajane and Laxus decided to just take over the house and never let me or Elfman live there again?"
"Then you and him could stay here with me and we could all hangout together." He patted the bed. "Now get back over here. Your brother's fine."
Sighing, Lisanna reclaimed her spot before saying, "I hope you know we can't do anything with him here."
"What?"
"Yeah, Bickslow. Duh. He's right outside the door. He'd hear."
"And?"
"And it would be awkward for me," she said, blushing just from the thought. "So no. We can't."
"Hmmm. And it'd be that way if you and him both came to stay with me too?"
"Most certainly."
"Maybe this whole thing ain't gonna work out."
"Surprise, surprise."
"Then it's our job, Lissy, to get him and Ever back together," Bickslow insisted then. "Not tonight though because right now, I just wanna eat this casserole."
"Uh-huh."
"And before, I totally planned on fooling around, but since that's off the table-"
"It never even was on the table, really."
"-I guess I should find something else to do with my night. Hmmm. You think Elfman likes to play cards?"
She only rolled her eyes as the babies came to rest on her head and lap. It would be a long night.

Quests and Drunks.4
"You two look like you wanna drink," was the first thing Cana said when she opened the door of her apartment. "Eh? Eh? Come on in."
"What? No." Lisanna frowned at her as she only leaned heavily against the door, staring out at them. "We're here for our babies."
"Babies, huh?" She stretched one arm over her head, yawning slightly. "I don't have any of those guys, I'm- Oh, hey, you mean your little dollies, huh?"
Bickslow blinked. Already having had enough that day, he merely said, "Yes. I mean my dollies."
Cana nodded slightly. "I had those."
"You do?" Lisanna grinned. "Where-"
"Had," Bickslow repeated. "She said had. Because everyone tonight has had them. They-"
"I got 'em from Erza's boyfriend," Cana said.
"Right," Lisanna said slowly, staring hard at her. "And what did you do with them?"
"I took 'em back to Mirajane," she said with a shrug. "I don't even want human babies. The bar was just closing and-"
"Mira has them!" Lisanna literally threw her arms around Bickslow. "Mira has Pippi and Puppu, Bickslow! And Natsu and Lucy have one, then Gray has the last two. We win!"
"I wouldn't say that we win, Lisanna, until we have all five, back in our hands," he sighed before looking to Cana. "Thanks."
"Sure you guys don't want a drink?" She grinned at them. "I hate drinking alone."
"Weren't you just at Laxus' party all night?"
Her smile turned to a frown as she narrowed her eyes at Lisanna. "Your point?"
"Uh…nothing. Never mind." She forced a smile though it wasn't hard considering she finally, finally knew where all the babies were. "Thanks, Cana."
"So now where? Your sister's?" Bickslow asked as they started out once more. The clouds had parted some and they could see the moon, but the frigid air hadn't let up any. "Or-"
"I know that they're fine with her. She'll probably try to take them to our place. She has a key," Lisanna reasoned. "Either that or keep them."
"Then-"
"I love Natsu and Lucy, but-"
"Right. We should go to them first," Bickslow said, nodding his head. "Before they screw something up."
But it was too late for that. Because in the end, they ran into Lucy and Natsu out on the street, Happy flying over head.
For a moment, Lisanna didn't notice that they were calling for someone as they walked. Instead, she just rushed right to them, throwing her arms around Lucy the second she saw her.
"L-Lisanna."
"Sorry," she giggled as Lucy had to find her footing to keep from toppling over. She just moved on to hugging Natsu, who glanced at Lucy. She only bowed her head.
"I take it that you heard we had one of your-"
"Where is he?" Lisanna asked. "And who do you have?"
"W-Well," Lucy stuttered, glancing at Natsu, but he was calling Happy back down to land. "We're not sure, but-"
"Where is he?" Bickslow asked then. "Did you guys take him to Mirajane too?"
"Not exactly," the blonde mage said as she scratched at the back of her head. "We kinda-"
"Lucy wouldn't let us hold him," Happy accused as he came to rest on the ground. Lisanna only reached down to pat him on the head.
"Yeah," Natsu said, nodding his head. "She insisted that she carry him."
"Well, I was less likely to drop him," she argued, frowning over at him.
"Yeah, but then you had to go and-"
"What," Bickslow began, growing agitated, "happened?"
"Guys?" Lisanna asked, staring at them as the two mages just glared at one another. It was Happy though, staring up at them with his bright eyes, that took to kicking at the ground before speaking.
"We sorta…well…" He sighed. "Lucy lost him!"
"I did not!"
"You didn't lose the baby?" Bickslow asked. "Or-"
"N-No. I did," she said. "Err, well, we did, but-"
"This is no time for schematics!" Bickslow yelled at her.
"I think you mean semantics," Lisanna said softly as Lucy shut her eyes tightly, as if fearful Bickslow would try to possess her. "What do you mean you lost him though?"
"We were trying to take him home because we didn't know where you guys were that you didn't have him," Lucy said. "But he was flipping out. He had been with Gajeel, after all. And then the doll just…got away from me and ran off. I'm sorry. We tried to chase him, but… And he doesn't rightly have a scent."
"I tried, Lisanna," Natsu told her, his face falling some as he looked at her. "How'd you guys lose it anyhow?"
"Bickslow lost them all," she said, finding her anger in him instead of her friends. The night was starting to wear on her and, frustrated to the fullest finally, she turned to hit him in the arm.
"Hey!" He rubbed at where she'd hit, turning to glare at her. "Don't get mad at me. Get mad at your ditzy friend."
"I'm not ditzy," Lucy insisted as Happy only snickered.
"It's not funny, Happy," Lisanna told him. "Seriously."
"I know, I was only-"
"We'll keep looking for them," Lucy said, staring Lisanna in the eyes then. "I mean, he has to-"
"He probably tried to get back home," Bickslow said. "'cept none of 'em are too good directionally. But they usually are able to find one another, if they break away. So he'd have either gone to Gray's place or Mirajane's."
"Gray, huh? He the thief? I bet he is," Natsu said, nodding his head. "That's how come he wouldn't come on our job with us, isn't it? That evil-"
"We're not in the mood, Natsu," Lisanna said before turning to walk away. "Come on. My house is closest. Let's see if Mirajane's home and has them. Then we can go from there."
"We'll go too," Natsu said, trying to fall into step with her.
"No, don't."
"But-"
"Natsu," Lucy said, going to grab his hand, stopping him. Bickslow rushed to keep pace with his girlfriend. "We'll keep looking out here, huh, Lisanna? And if we find him, we'll bring him straight to your apartment this time. Promise."
"Don't know what their problem is," Natsu grumbled after it was just the three of them once more. "We said sorry, didn't we?"
"And we are real sorry," Happy agreed as he took to the air once more. "We'll keep searching too, huh?"
"Just a dumb doll."
"They're not just dolls to them, Natsu," Lucy told him. "They're…their babies or whatever. Like if you lost Happy."
"Not alike at all," Happy told her. "Because he can't lose me. I don't belong to him."
"Happy's a strong independent cat, Luce."
She only rolled her eyes before setting off in the opposite direction of Lisanna and Bickslow. "Let's just get back to looking, huh?"
"Aye, sir!" Happy flew off then and Natsu took off running. They'd find Lisanna her toy if it was that important. They'd find them all!
"So we go to your sister's and then-"
"I don't know, Bickslow," Lisanna told him as she took to crossing her arms. "Alright?"
"Lisanna-"
"I can't believe you gambled them to begin with. You're a horrible father."
"Oh, I'm a horrible father now?"
"You have been this whole time."
"Why are you suddenly so against me here, huh? I thought it was me and you against-"
"You gambled our babies, Bickslow," she hissed at him, throwing a glare out as well. "And now one of them is lost. Not with a guild member, but lost. You know how panicky they get. And if it's Pappa-"
"Stop thinking of the worst things, Lisanna. I'm sure that it was Poppo. He's the best at finding the others. And he's the toughest. So-"
"So what? He still wouldn't have to be looking for the others if it wasn't for-"
"They're my souls, Lisanna," he growled at her then. "Not yours. You're not anything to them! So stop fucking yelling at me and-"
"Go then!" She stopped walking, turning to literally shove him. "Go find them your damn self, Bickslow, and leave me alone."
"Lisanna-"
"No. You're not allowed to walk with me."
"You-"
"Go!" She shoved him again. "Go… Go home and wait for them. Or for me. Whatever. I don't want you around anymore. All you've done is slow me down. I probably-"
"I've slowed you down?" He snorted. "You constantly slow me down, kid. And you wouldn't even know that they were missing if it wasn't for me!"
"Missing? Don't you mean traded?"
"I thought I was going to win, Lisanna!"
"And win what, huh? What would have been so important to win that you would have-"
"Jewels, alright? He was going-"
"Money? You wagered them for-"
"I need it, alright?"
"For what?"
"Well for one, I was going to buy you that damn ring that you fucking asked for. That one that I can't fucking afford otherwise," he growled. "But now you can just forget it! You can get a fucking plastic one for all I care!"
She blinked. Then she turned her back to him. "I don't wanna marry you right now anyways."
"Whatever." He started walking again. "Come on. Let's get Pippi and Puppu. They're probably worried."
It was silent the rest of the way. Lisanna started to feel bad at one point, but Bickslow was just as drunk and stubborn as ever. And honestly, they both wanted to get the babies back more than they cared about making up in that moment,.
When they got to the Strauss house, Lisanna used her old key to get in. The past year or so, Mira mostly just stayed there alone other than when Laxus spent the night, as Lisanna had officially moved in with her boyfriend and Elf spent almost all his time at Ever's, enough so to qualify as moved in.
"Mirajane?" she called out as she entered. "Are you-"
"Lisanna!"
And then she was literally hit in the face by a quick moving object.
"Ow! Damn it, Pippi!"
He only flew back to do it again. Bickslow made him stop though.
"You could have hurt her," he scolded out of habit. Pippi had quite the problem with flying at high speeds into things. Especially when he was excited.
"Lisanna!"
Puppu didn't run into her, but stopped just short of it.
"I think he gave me a black eye," she complained as she came further into the house. Quickly though, she reached out to grab both of the dolls and hold them. "Are you guys okay though?"
"Mira," they sang as she appeared in the entranceway, coming in from the kitchen. "Mirajane."
"Where have you guys been?" Mirajane was in full punishment mode at that point and only glared at them, finger ready to be wagged. "I've looked everywhere! For the other babies too. Cana said something about Erza and Jellal giving them to her, but wouldn't say where Erza got them. She did say that the others were gone. So I went to your place, but were you there? No. You-"
It was an accumulation of things, really. She was tired, Bickslow'd just botched any sort of surprise proposal, honestly she wasn't even sure if he'd ask again, three of the babies were still missing, and, on top of everything, Pippi had just freaking slammed into her face hard enough to shatter glass. Both the dolls and Bickslow stayed very still as Lisanna teared up. Mirajane though, used to this, only went to hug her.
"What happened?" she asked softly as Lisanna only held onto her.
"I tried to fix it all on my own, Mira, but-"
"What happ-"
"Laxus," she told her as she sniffled. "He trick Bickslow into betting on a darts game with the babies back at his apartment. Then he passed them out to everyone when they went home!"
"Everyone?"
"We kinda, sorta, mighta had a party," Bickslow told her as he kicked at the ground. Even he felt like he was being mothered at the moment by the she-demon. "Since you wouldn't let him drink or whatever. And when I lost the bet, he wouldn't give them back. He said that I had to give him something better in order to get them back, but when I brought Lissy back there, he'd given them away. And-"
"And we think that Gray has the others," she sniffled. "But-"
"No, he doesn't," she said. "I have them too."
"How-"
"I was coming back from trying to take them to your place when the other two came flying at us," she said. "Maybe they got away from Gray? I don't-"
"Only two?" she whispered.
She nodded. "But when we got back home, Pippi was so excited, he kinda ran into them and broke their bodies. He keeps smashing things. I think their spirits are trapped in your old bedroom, Lisanna. Or at least I hope. I shut the door. I don't really know how any of this works."
Bickslow walked around them then. Freed might have sealed them, but if their bodies broke, that would shatter the enchantment. Only he could see them then.
When he returned to them, it was with a floating shoe and an old stuffed animal.
"Had to improvise," he told them with a shrug.
"Who-"
"It's Poppo," he said. "And-"
"Peppe," Mirajane finished. "Where-"
"Natsu and Lucy lost him," Lisanna finished before sniffling some more. "Mira, now we'll never find him! He always get so scared of things. And if he shatters out there without Bickslow to see, then-"
"We'll find him, Lissy," Bickslow said. "I-"
"But what if-"
"Hey." Mirajane looked down at her then, grinning slightly. "Pappa's going to be fine. Bickslow and the other dolls are going to go look for him. Aren't you, Bickslow?"
"Of course," he said, nodding his head. "And-"
"And I'm going to go take care of something else, huh? If I see him on the way, I'll catch him." She kissed Lisanna's head before letting her go. "You know that children love their aunt."
Then Lisanna smiled a little bit. "Thanks, Mira."
She only nodded before rushing off to get her coat as they set off to find their last baby.
Mira had somewhere much more important to go, however.
They were out looking for only twenty minutes when they ran into Natsu and Lucy, excitement evident on both their faces. It was Happy though, dropping down from the sky to land on her head that made Lisanna the happiest.
"You found Pappa," she giggled as he spit the doll from his mouth. Pappa didn't like this at first and started to complain until he seemed to realize that all the other dolls were with him. Not to mention Papa and Mama!
"You know we always take care of you, Lisanna," Natsu assured her as Happy only nodded.
"I never thought it was funny," he said as Lisanna only hugged him as Pappa flew around with his other dolls before taking to slamming against Bickslow's chest.
They were all giggling then, even him, as he hugged his babies and Lisanna threw her arms around her friends in thanks.
Their quest was finally complete. But Mira's was only starting.
It was so dark in his bedroom that when Laxus first opened his eyes, he didn't even notice her. It was her scent, really that tipped him off. Then, suddenly, he found himself shooting up in bed.
"Damn it, demon," he growled at the woman who was standing at the side of it, glaring at him. "You scared the shit out of-"
"You wanted a trade, Laxus?" She stared into his eyes, somehow finding them regardless of the darkness. "How about this one. They already got their babies back, but I have a better idea."
"B-Babies?"
"Mmmhmm. I know all about your little party. And for the record, you and your stupid little bodyguards can play whatever kind of games they want, but when my sister comes home crying because you were mean to her, things stop being funny."
"M-Mira, it was only a joke. I was going to give them back. I-"
But then he wasn't speaking to Mirajane any longer as she took on the form of Satan Soul far better than she had after losing her sister all those years ago.
"If you thought me banning you from drinking was bad, Laxus," she began as he only sat there in bed, trying hard not to gulp, "you're about to be in for the shock of your life."
He shut his eyes tightly, hoping that maybe, just maybe, it was all a bad dream. But nope. It wasn't. His girlfriend was standing there, pissed, and about to slaughter him.
"At least make it quick," he whispered before she suddenly pounced him, pinning him to the bed. Laxus only turned his head as she leaned over him, at first pinning his hands down with her demon claws, but then releasing one.
"No," she told him as she took to shaking one of her fingers in his face. Laxus only groaned. "No."
"This is so demeaning."
"Bad dragon."
"Mirajane-"
"You don't take things. Especially not children."
"I'm sorry."
"You better be. And tomorrow, you're going to march your butt into the guildhall and say that to both Lisanna and Bickslow. Then you're going to sit there and not drink as you watch everyone else have a good time without you. Because you were very bad, Laxus Dreyar." She grabbed his jaw with her claw, forcing him to face her. "Open your eyes."
"Mira-"
"Open."
When he did, she only stared at him. "Are you really sorry?"
"Yes. Very. I'll never do it again."
She only sat back some then, staring down at him. "Good. And no spending the night with one another for at least a week."
"What? Mira-"
She only climbed back off him, transforming once more to her normal form. "I'm sorry, Laxus, but you have to be punished."
"This isn't fair!"
He got a look for that. "Do you need another finger wag?"
"No," he groaned, rolling onto his side, giving her his back.
"Good. Now go to sleep. I have to go see if Lisanna got all her babies back."
Grunt. It wasn't until about twenty minutes after she left, when he realized that he couldn't sleep and went to get his Sound Pod to soothe him off that he realized something.
"Demon!" he yelled even though he knew she was long gone. "You are not allowed to take my things!"
Oh, but she was. And, as she made her way back home, his headphones in hand, she knew that she'd be keeping them for a long time.
