forever thinking ab the moment in double life where pearl and martyn steal jimmys horse (or rather scars horse that they gave to him). they laugh about it and then pearl IMMEDIATELY brings it back to him, apologizing, and even though she does a little tongue in cheek "give me everything you have" moment, she doesnt actually make him do that.

the way that pearls character is just so selfless and loving no matter what. despite jimmy banishing her from the ranch, despite everyone she meets being unkind, despite being branded a witch and a demoness by the server, shes still so kind at heart. so giving. "thats not me i cant do that to you jimmy" and she was RIGHT its NOT her because pearl is empathetic and loving and wouldnt be able to live with herself if she did something so underhanded. she cares SO much. even when shes annoying scott, she takes extra care not to actually kill him or put him in any danger. she just cares so deeply and wears it on her sleeve and the people around her in double life somehow DONT SEE IT

(and im thinking now ab scar as a foil to pearl, how their trickery can look the same if u dont study it closely-- how scar isnt above these underhanded methods, how he craves destruction and wealth and will do just about anything for it no matter what life hes on. how, if pearl had been the one in the desert, there would have been no monopoly, no hoarding, no friendship passes that mean nothing. no honey coated words. shes genuine to a fault at times. then, conversely, i think about how, if scar had been the one alone in the tower FOR THE SECOND TIME BTW, the whole server would have been under his foot)
