Watching a character you love getting flanderized in real time is so painful.
Especially when it’s a character you heavily related to for specific reasons only to see them being regressed to a caricature or a joke of a character and throw away all their traits and development that made them who they are
I know it’s silly but as someone who only consumes extremely few very specific pieces of media I get attached to them and characters very heavily so it hurts more to see stuff like this happen or topics being mishandled
The first season of RA was so amazingly written, the characters and plot were so natural and appealing, and how our main character Harry was written and portrayed really struck me. He was clearly written to be autism coded by his mannerisms and speech patterns. The way he navigates society and speaks about and to humans really resonated with me as an autistic individual who always felt like I was from another planet as everyone else and couldn’t understand or relate to those around me.
Despite being weird and silly and having goofy behaviors he was still a self sufficient, independent adult character who knew what he did and didn’t want. He wanted to be respected (partially because he thought he was better than everyone else) but also as one of them. He was extremely intelligent and tech savvy, but emotionally undeveloped.
He doesn’t understand social cues to an almost extreme level but he is trying his best.
Specifically I need to mention Asta, whom he never hurts intentionally and the one scene that really stuck out with me was when he accidentally reveals to her family that she had a baby she gave up for adoption. He didn’t understand why people kept things secret from those they love and had no intention of exposing her closest secret to harm her in any way.
In the newer seasons, seeing Harry be regressed to an immature man baby is painful and sad. They are now trying to force a mother and son dynamic out of what was a beautiful mutual friendship and potentially romantic relationship. Asta is shown to be annoyed and exasperated with him while he just annoys her with a smile on his face. They’ve infantilized and reduced him to a joke and an idiot that just doesn’t sit right with me at all. Characters making fun of his neurodivergent traits when they rarely commented on his quirks before.
“He doesn’t understand” “I don’t understand.”
“He’s basically a child”. “Im Just a child.”
That hurt me so much. It’s not funny. I finally felt like I had an interesting and great semi-representation I’ve longed for without being a savant or aspergers stereotype. Cant have anything smh

For your ask game. What do you see happening in a world where the Fourth OFA User unlocks the ability to speak to the vestiges? He's the guy who explicitly trained the quirk to increase its power for future users and thus the most likely to unlock its secrets. Within a month of getting the quirk, the guy's meditating under a waterfall and now he's in a discord call with the boys, and so will the future users.
I love this concept!
This happened before Hikage met Banjo, so he was really lonely and missed his predecessors. He didn't see the point in meditating under a waterfall, but he remembered how every manga Yoichi liked had a scene like that, so he decided to try it out to honor him. The cool water and white noise were actually really comforting since it also happened to be summer, and next thing you know, he fell asleep and ended up in the void. He thought he was dreaming at first, especially because he was only there for a few seconds before he woke up. Except it kept happening and he realized that OFA must stockpile not only strength, but memories. Eventually, he was able to stay there for a full 8 hours, but no matter how hard he tried, it could only happen when he was asleep. He died in his sleep, so when his body finally gave out, it felt as if he never had to wake up from a wonderful dream. (It was a little less wonderful when the first three got all lovey-dovey and he had to fourth wheel)
Banjo didn't really believe that Hikage could see his predecessors. He just thought that was a product of imagination from his loneliness (in fact, that was part of why he wanted to be his friend so badly in the first place, because he was worried about his mental stability). Imagine his surprise when he falls asleep the night after Hikage dies and sees his friend again. He's so freaked out he wakes up. Then he remembers what Hikage told him and decides to try and go to sleep again. It works, and for up to 10 hours, he had to deal with Hikage going "I told you so!". But even so, he was happy to see him and meet the three he talked about so much. And when he died, Hikage was so happy that he would no longer have to fourth wheel.
En, unfortunately, did not get to live long. He had fun talking to Banjo and meeting that weird forest guy he always talked about, but just a few months after getting OFA, he was killed. He was only able to extend the dream time to 11 hours, but his successor would reach new heights.
Nana got a longer run and along with seeing them in her dreams, could hear their voices in her head. Not always since they had to choose to speak to her and if she tried to hear them when they weren't speaking, all she would hear was static. At first, it was nice to be able to speak to her predecessors, but the unsolicited advice got annoying real quick. When the unsolicited parenting advice started, she went to the void the next night and slapped them. They shut up after that. But when she was considering putting Kotaro in foster care there was a big argument over it. In the end, she still did it, but they convinced her to let Torino and Toshinori check up on him.
Poor Toshinori. At first, it was cool meeting his predecessors and being able to see Nana again, but like with her, the voices in his head got annoying. And after a little while, they could even appear in the real world, though they were more ghostlike and no one else could see them, so he never got a break. At least Nana was able to watch Kotaro grow up after Torino decided to adopt him and Hana and Tenko lived decent lives. Kotaro was still really tough but not as bad as he could have been. And AFO stayed away realizing that with Torino and All Might, Kotarou won't be easily swayed.
And now, Izuku. Honestly, part of the reason Toshinori picked him was that he thought they would bother a kid more often. Oh, and he had heroic spirit and all that. There was certainly arguing over whether a kid should get that power but he argued with "well, I got that power as a high schooler and look at me now." "You're a skeleton." "Only because of AFO and he's dead." "Ugh, fine." (AFO is not dead but only Yoichi knows. He could sense it through twin bond but didn't want to ruin everyone else's celebration). Because they can all communicate Izuku gets better instruction and makes it through the exam with fractures in his legs and a single broken arm. After that he later gets a lecture from Hikage and goes "Oh, I need to let it spread through my body instead of one sole place" "Yeah exactly-" "Like a microwave!" "..." So, he reaches that a lot quicker and doesn't have to break a finger on the first day of school. It all goes well until the USJ happens. The vestiges were out of the void, wanting to observe the training, but no one but Izuku could see them. Then Kurogiri comes in with the nomu and the vestiges are so startled they become visible to everyone. And 7 ghosts appearing around one green haired boy startles everyone else so much they all freeze and stare. AFO (who was watching at home) sees his brother and orders Kurogiri to take everyone back and leave.
I'll stop there for now since I don't want to rewrite all of Mha. But yes, there is no substitute for Tomura since I couldn't think of anyone to take his place.

Is the mha and khr crossover like a dimensional travel situation? Or does the khr mafia exist within the mha world?
Because on one hand, the angst potential of tsuna being spat out in a different world and freaking out over even more 10 yrs later issues happening and then being followed by his guardians one by one (plus some others like the varia).
But then there’s also the pure comedy of very very few people actually knowing that the operations of the mafia aren’t just drugs and extortion, but a whole ass magic battle system separate from quirks. Also, maybe even afo not knowing bc I find him not knowing things funny.
I’m leaning into the mafia existing in the MHA world precisely because of how hilarious it would be for almost everyone to just not know.
Like the only knowledge of the mafia being from the lesser or more extreme families that cannot compete/pay their way into obscurity like the bigger or more well established families can is so credibly funny to me.
And, much like my hp/mha crossovers so many sins can be hidden by a handwaved explanation of “weird quirk shit” by a teenager who was told what their quirk was at like five. Why does Tsuna’s quirk involve so Amun weird things with fire and an almost complete change of personality? Fuck if he knows the explanation was given to him by some doctor while Tsuna was trying to watch Mickey Mouse. How does an illusion quirk involve teleportation? No fucking idea Mukuro was adopted and all of his original records were lost. How does a similar illusion quirk make fucking organs? Chrome is quite literally the last person who would know because that part of her quirk developed while she was in a coma due to the lack of organs and her bio parents threw out all of her paperwork when they disowned her.
It’s just really funny looking at it from a pov of actual teenagers and adults handling those teenagers because “I have no idea how it works it just does” is the most accurate response any teacher would ever get if they asked about a quirk.

Title: Day one of UA!
Character(s): Hawks / Keigo Takami (BNHA)
Summary: After fighting with villains Hawks was badly injured, when you showed up and healed him. Now today is the day he will take you to UA!
Warnings/tags: Slowburn platonic yandere, fem!child!reader, the reader has a healing quirk, the obsessions themes are not obvious here but will happen at one point so just in case I am putting this here, drabble
Little healer here! list
You were super excited when you found out you were going to UA. You have heard many things about the school. And right now is a little before the start of the new year. Keigo took you to the school stating that while you are not a student of the school paper wise you will be watched over by Recovery girl and the other teachers there.
You nodded at his words holding his hands as you looked at the cherry blossoms still yet to bloom but only small buds. The headmaster of the school and a few teachers seems to be waiting for you and Keigo in front of the school. You stared at the principal as he spoke to Keigo after a short greeting and introduction.
"My aren't you a cutie." Recovery girl said patting your head, quick to explain to you that she would be the one you will be following half of the time. There were many students who get hurt often here and it was her job to heal and help them but it would also be good for you to gain some experience and training under watchful eyes.
"Here you go some candies."
The other two teachers that were waiting were Mic and Aizawa. Mic was quick to coo at how cute you were also telling you not to worry as this place was the safest place you will ever be. Aizawa wasn't really that interested in entertaining you and just greeted you as most of his focus was on the principal and Hawks.
He didn't understand why you should come here when they too had their hands full with other students.
"If you need anything and you can't find Recovery Girl you can look for me or this guy here alright?" You nodded at Mic's words looking at him and Aizawa with a concentrated look as if trying to remember their faces.
"I will be going now birdie." Glancing to the other side you looked at Keigo who was getting ready to leave. Telling you he will pick you up when work finishes, you waved goodbye as he flew away.
Now the whole day you have been following Recovery girl but a lot of the time you were also in the teacher's office drawing on one of the lone tables the teachers had given you some paper to draw on with the colored pencils you brought.
Mic looked like a fun teacher but so were the other teachers who noticed you beside the yellow sleeping bag Aizawa quietly drawing. They asked you a few questions surprised that you were the suppose adopted daughter of Hawks. It was weird really that such a young hero would adopt a child yet it was quickly cleared up later when they meet up with the principal.
At the end of the Hawks soon returned and you said your goodbyes to the teachers. "Was it fun?" Keigo asked you carrying you in his arms. "Unh!" You nodded smiling, nothing happened but it was nice you explained. The teachers were really nice to you and the Cementoss pro hero teacher also gave you cookies to eat.
You explained the exture was similar to hard rock which made Keigo laugh.
You asked how his day was and if he beat up any bad guys. Nodding he told you of how a robber tried to steal from the jewelry shop but he put an end to it, the sparkle in your eyes made him smile a little softer.
In truth, he was actually worried about you the whole day. Unable to concentrate on his work as much. How where you doing? Are the teachers nice to you? Are they treating you well? What are you doing right now? Perhaps training? What are you thinking right now?
It has only been a few days but Keigo would often look to his side expecting you to be there but only the empty floor. It was an odd feeling really being unable to hear your voice.
It almost felt lonely without you.
"It was fine."

Ok, 2 thoughts
1) I have this idea that Eri eventually becomes a hero called “Back Up!” (Yes, the exclamation point is included). It’s both a reference to her Quirk, and the fact she’s a “back up” hero, or serves as back up in most situations. She’s trained enough to use “Rewind” that she can use it safely, and she works as a doctor/field medic/“healing” hero. Like, they only call her in for serious shit, but she can reverse just about any injury beyond straight up death. She also can use Rewind to sort of “pause” a person, keep them in stasis, until other medical help arrives, but this isn’t, like, great for anyone when she does that, herself included, and it’s honestly easier and safer to just rewind a person so they never were hurt in the first place. She only uses the “pause” option for if there’s some weird interaction that Rewind might not effect, or if using Rewind would actually be detrimental (I headcanon that sometimes, using Rewind can be a shock to the system, so depending on the injury, it’s actually better to just “pause” the person and wait for medical help to arrive).
2) K, so, Hirokazu spends his first few months at U.A. flipping between charismatic and jackass “I’m better than everyone else”. He seems to have SPECIFIC BEEF with Nijiko, which is frustrating for all, Because Nijiko sees him as someone to admire and emulate (other kid with a bird Quirk, also has controllable feathers, but seems so much better at it than her, could he give her some tips?? He’s so cool?). The various kids complain to various parents, Katsuki is getting horrible flashbacks to her own childhood and teen years. Sports Fest happens, Nijiko and Hirokazu fight … and hoo boy. It is BRUTAL. Both Hirokazu and Nijiko end up knocked out of the tournament entirely - Nijiko due to injury, Hirokazu TECHNICALLY for the same reason. Like, that’s what they tell the public. In reality, Hirokazu was the big instigator for the fight, so the school is coming down on him for Excessive Force, and threatening to ban him from the internships. But Katsuki decides “No, I got this”, and puts in to have Hirokazu do his internship with her. School agrees, so now Dynamight has a week to try and beat some sense into Hothead.
(No idea who actually wins the Sports Fest? Either rando, not related to the Chaos Class, or possible Akiko, who just went Kirby on everyone and spat them out of the ring.)
So, Kats is dealing with Hirokazu Kazanawa, Hero Name: Notus, the Southern Wind, and internally apologizing to all her teachers because GOD, was she this self-absorbed? Like, Hirokazu spends half his internship complaining about Nijiko getting to intern with Hawks, when HE should have been, he’s CLEARLY better than her. Katsuki is kind of ripping her hair out, but LM is doing her internship with Deku (multiple Quirk use practice) so she helps out a bit. Anyway, eventually Katsuki does start to chip away at his exterior a bit. They even start getting a decent heart-to-heart going, about blame, and insecurity. In fact, it’s going really well, until Hirokazu realizes Katsuki is comparing him and Nijiko, to her and Deku, and without even thinking, goes “Do NOT compare my sister and I, with you and your husband, that’s disgusting.”
Katsuki: “Ok, fine, I what the fuck do you mean ‘sister’!?”
Hirokazu: *shit, fuck, I fucked up*
Hirokazu clams up, but Katsuki is determined, and eventually Hirokazu blurts out that’s just what his mom told him. So, Katsuki contacts Akamei, like “Hey, your son said some shit, can you confirm what the FUCK he’s talking about??” And Akamei decides she can USE this. So, she spins a bit of a story, that her “partner” cheated on her with someone, resulting in Nijiko. That he ran off with his mistress, leaving her and Hirokazu behind. She only saw Nijiko once, but it was enough to recognize her when the news about her adoption went public. She has no idea what happened to her partner, or the mistress. She also used to be very bitter about Nijiko’s existence, but now she’s wondering if maybe Nijiko and Hirokazu should connect? They are FAMILY, after all.
Someone decides to do a DNA test, to confirm that Nijiko and Hirokazu are related. And yep, they are. DNA test also confirms who the dad is, so now the whole squad is concerned, and wondering WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON!?
-
AHAHAHHAHAHAHA BEAUTIFUL And yes to everything on Eri!
No but yeah I’m I’m I’m-
I’m imagining that their DNA test to check out the story they just use what they have on hand to do it quickly, which while it runs Nijiko and Hirokazu’s DNA against each other, it also runs the DNA against logged samples in the system.
And there’s Hero DNA in the system, partly because the Commission are control freaks and partly so it’s easier to sort out crime scenes in the aftermath of a hero v villain fight.
Then yeah the test dings on a match to Hawks’ DNA which has everyone like ???????????. Then a follow up of ‘okay looking at the kids and their Quirks that makes sense but how the FUCK-”.
Because they know that Hawks isn’t going to cheat on his husband ofc. And even if they were going to do something threesome-ish then it’d be someone they knew and therefore they’d know about the kids. But clearly they don’t!
They also def know something’s Up™ because obvs that doesn’t match Akamei’s story of her partner running off.
They’d talk and then mention Akamei being involved and that’d click for Hawks because he remembers her and what kind of person she was/what her job was and he’s like “Bad news, I just remembered that the Commission had some DNA samples that could’ve been used to make them. Worse news: I don’t think it was just a case of wanting a surrogate father.”

@izumikoushiroweek: Day 2 - What are your Koushirou headcanons?
I probably have way too many headcanons for him to count, so I thought I'd be talking about 12, relating to each of the other Chosen Children and his Digimon partner.
Tentomon: As implied in this art, Tentomon has to remind Koushirou to not only use his PC set-up for work at times, but to get in touch with the outside world as well, including calling his parents. They maintain having a very loving bond and Koushirou actually enjoys talking to his family, even if he has that tendency to get lost in Chosen Children duty, thus pulling way too many allnighters in his office. Tentomon helps practicing to "talk about feelings" and such and since he was always integrated in almost all of Koushirou's activities as emotional support or "personal assistant" (aside from occasionally getting back into the server realm or Digital World to "recharge"), their bond has never vanished. (Practicing also includes hugs. Tentomon loves them dearly. Koushirou does too.)
Taichi: I probably have a million different headcanons when it comes to their bond, but I think one of the things I am particularly fond of is the idea that Taichi easily picked up on Koushirou's quirks and habits over the years - and that's why he notices stuff others don't realize that quickly. He is very particular about what exact brands of oolong tea Koushirou likes, that he cannot stand coffee or doesn't take alcohol very well. They also have tons of insiders and catchphrases other people just give them weird looks over. They're basically on each other's speed dial, especially considering they're working together as adults. And, last but not least, I think Taichi would be the very first human friend who learns about Koushirou's adoption history, being incredibly supportive about it. (One time, Yuuko probably said something along the lines of "If I could, I would already have adopted Koushirou-kun into our family" and Taichi almost flipped because of the wording, but Koushirou told him it was fine, since he knew she meant it well. They both get along with each other's moms very well by the way.)
Yamato: After they returned from the Digital World for the first time, Yamato actually fulfilled his (PSP game only) promise and showed Koushirou how to cook a few easy recipes (besides how to boil the perfect egg). While Koushirou will probably never be a master cook and prefers stuff that is easy to make/get and eat - and while working -, food is actually something they occasionally bond over. They may not be as passionate about it as Mimi and Daisuke, but they'd absolutely surprise the others with their very own curry creations.
Sora: I've probably mentioned this a million times already, but in my mind, they're destined to become "fashion (and texting) buddies". Takeru - as well as Mimi or Miyako - may be a hundred times more comfortable in being experimental, but these two definitely have to figure themselves out first and foremost, breaking some gender stereotypes in the meantime and would 100% be there for each other (while moping and bonding over Taichi's and Yamato's antics). Let Sora help Koushirou to find his own personal wardrobe while he would support her in getting her designs going digitally - once the time is right.
Mimi: Since Mimi slowly but steadily becomes more acquainted with technology through the years, it shouldn't be surprising that they're becoming "calling buddies". Mimi always preferred calling over typing and since Koushirou is helping her to set up her online business, they also end up chatting for hours without end about literally everything - and they absolutely suck at ending their calls. Mimi keeps telling Koushirou to rest, but she's terrible at just saying "Bye then!". Time zone differences make this even more of an issue and it often happens that one of them just falls asleep while the other rambles.
Jyou: Gomamon and Tentomon forced them to become "coffee shop buddies". I'm not kidding. They were so fed up with them burying themselves in uni/regular work that they ended up making them have "Go outside for a change, let's grab something to eat!!!" meetings once a month (at minimum, since Gomamon was done with cooking and wanted to get treats too and Tentomon loved the idea; occasionally they pull Sora and/or Taichi with them too). Since Jyou never felt intimidated by Koushirou's intellect but knows his struggles with "keeping his mental health together", they have an easy time blowing off some steam.
Takeru: Koushirou and Takeru actually grew closer with each other during "transition years" between middle and high school. With Taichi, Yamato and Sora facing high school entrance exams and eventually leaving middle school, Koushirou was more likely to spend time after school with "the 02 squad" for a while (and the two of them and Hikari would definitely have study sessions together at this point in time). Takeru is also among those who's more skilled with computers, which is why he's easily third admin of the Chosen Children network (with Miyako being second), but also likes to ask Koushirou for advice - who happily rambles along (and they're also "meme buddies", sending each other random stuff in the middle of the night they came across and thought the other would find interesting). Takeru will also be among the first who gets to hear about his adoption history in more detail and he'll absolutely feel more attached to Koushirou because of it.
Hikari: Aside from me being convinced that he is archiving all the photos she's been taking in the Digital World for years (while also helping her to set up her own digital photobooks), one of my favourite headcanons is that Hikari's the main reason why Koushirou turned out to be "a cat person"; he has been around the Yagami residence way too many times in his life and probably thought he couldn't really "get along" with cats in general. But Miko, after having been reluctant at first, warmed up to him rather quickly after Hikari kept her around in the same room as them. So the cat would just end up resting next to him while he was typing away on his laptop. (Sometimes he watches Tentomon curling into a ball when falling asleep next to him and Koushirou cannot help but feel reminded of a cat as well and he finds it adorable.)
Daisuke: Despite Ken being the closest person to him overall, Daisuke has had a hard time talking to Koushirou for YEARS, still having a tendency of wanting to appear extra smart in front of him. It was a lot easier when Taichi, Ken or Mimi were around, he could talk normally then, but even worse when Takeru was there too, because he felt double-intimidated. Koushirou noted that behaviour, didn't get it though, so Taichi had to explain it to him in a sense of "Imagine being the new kid in football club that thinks he can't kick a ball if the ace striker is watching him", to which Koushirou just nodded. They absolutely met for a football match a few days later - and that's how Koushirou ended up in goal, Daisuke, who scored numerous goals against him, started to act a lot less tense afterwards.
Ken: Imagining a scenario in which Menoa gets redeemed (and maybe after they find a way to get their partners back), I could see Koushirou and Ken being very keen to make her realize that she should also rather invest her intellect in improving the infrastructure between the worlds instead of harbouring feelings of vengeance and bitterness... They're all smart muffins with bug babies after all. (And Koushirou would definitely be interested in figuring out why both Ken and Menoa were so prone to "getting corrupted" while he himself was mostly spared... They're not exactly prone to trauma dumping, Ken in particular struggles with it a lot, but that's another case of "once he knows Koushirou's back story, it gets easier to open up.")
Miyako: Miyako pretends that she's bothered by Chosen Children Network duty a lot, and it maaaay be a bit bothersome at times, but the truth is that she felt intimidated by all the effort Koushirou put into it. Aside from Iori, she always looked up to him as senpai the most and didn't want to appear incapable in comparison. If Koushirou didn't know he could entrust it to her, he would have given it to Takeru first, but despite her spunky, sometimes unpredictable nature, he trusted in her judgement and communicative skills from the start without a doubt.
Iori: By the start of his uni life, Iori really values the privacy of Koushirou's office to use it as study space - especially because he's getting resources there for law school he wouldn't easily get access to without spending horrendous amounts of money. And because they just enjoy each other's company, being a lot more grounded than the rest of their friends. Just like in middle school, they end up having study sessions, often joined by Takeru, but also occasionally by Ken, going through several of their study subjects - sometimes they even go for outside activities (because Koushirou is most likely not used to those anymore and needs to keep up on physical training too - when they get the opportunity, they take Jyou with them too).

—————/———————/————
I’ve seen her a few times around the village
Even from a distance, the mysterious aura seeping through her gaze always seemed to catch my attention
I knew better than to mess with witches
But to say my not-so royal life was getting boring was an understatement
My family sent me to live in the rural edges of our kingdom, with the purpose of teaching me life the hard way, before becoming the head of the palace
So here I was, a prince, trying to stay undercover, living as a farmer under someone’s uncle’s roof
~~
That women I keep seeing, i've never quite seen a beauty so surreal, ‘’maybe it was a spell’’ i chuckled to myself, or maybe it was something far more than what i expected it to be
——-
I struggle to remember the color of the walls inside the palace. Maybe they changed it now.
My father and mother had agreed on it, before being suited to lead the kingdom, I had to live the hard way. Living with a friend of a friend, a farmer that is, and for approximately 12 months.
Every descendant of the Crimson family that was in line for the throne had to prove themselves by doing so. But the way my father had thrown me out without a notice still left me hurt.
I felt the bitterness come back to the surface as I bit down on my already bleeding lip.The feeling was exactly what I needed for this instance.I picked myself back up, pushing away the stray hairs from my vision. My left side stung again as I received another blow to my ribs.
The small crowd cheered.
I wasn’t going to let that scoundrel make a fool out of me again. I targeted his leg, first grabbing his shoulders, then kicking his leg to be able to swipe my feet underneath his, making him fall successfully
The crowd cheered again
Seeing my enemy on the ground, I stomped my feet down to his throat.
I had enough…
I kept pressing down even after he tapped on my leg for mercy. It's only when one of my friends pulled me back that I came back to my senses. The crowd quickly gathered around me, celebrating another worthless win. ‘’Yea yea, i won, the show’s now over every one’’ i made a gesture for them to disperse.
The moment I could feel the breeze again, I looked around at the disappearing crowd.
We had this event between friends every week or so. The crowd was always changing, new faces every time. But one face seemed familiar through it all.
A slender figure, dark hair, and always that dark cape looming over her. My friends told me she was only around when I was the one fighting.
Villagers, farmers, foreigners, anyone could enter our fighting matches as long as they placed a bet. The crowd could place bets as well, delivering the money before being permitted to watch the show. It wasn’t anything professional, far from it, but it was a way for us to distract ourselves and get some money out of it.
I walked back to my older friend, looking down at the amount we had gathered
‘’How much did we get?’’ I asked
‘’Weird question for a royal like you y/n, shouldn't you already have all the riches in the land?’’ he quirked his eyebrow. I kicked some dirt his way.
‘’Hey! Do that again and you’re never getting your share’’
I huffed before sitting down by his side to help him count
——
After all, life outside the castle wasn’t too hard. Harsh but freeing in many ways that the 4 walls of that palace could never provide me.
I walked back home at dawn, walking a bit further away from the village. I stepped inside, noticing my adoptive family, each sitting around the table.
‘’Good evening’’ I announced myself before taking off my worn out jacket
‘’Did you feed the lambs and the chickens?’’ A stern voice asked me
I cursed under my breath
‘’Go outside to feed them and do not come back in until it's done. You'll sleep outside if you are too lazy for such minimal tasks. You might be royal blood, but from what i have seen of you, you'll never be as good as your father’’ he spitted at me
I felt both my fists clenching, breathe y/n, only a few more months…
‘’It's not because your a descendant of the Crimson’s family that you're any better than us, now go before I teach you a lesson’’
I exited the house, slamming the door behind me.
This is ridiculous, no one restocked the food for the chickens. I grabbed my satchel and made my way out further, nearing the woods.
I still wasn’t quite sure what these animals were supposed to eat to grow. I would usually steal from our neighbors gardens, gathering what I could so uncle could get off my back.
Like the usual routine, I sneaked past the small cabin, kneeling down before the small garden. I started filling my bag with anything I could grab.
I believed myself to be safe. That is until I heard wood cracking under someone's weight. I immediately ducked, laying on the ground as flat as possible. Footsteps grew louder and closer, that’s when I heard a shout and decided it was my time to run. I stood up and saw the old man pointing his gun at me, I ducked and started running towards the woods. Hearing cursing and gunshots following. I ran through bushes and trees, not looking back
I stopped a minute later, trying to catch my breath.
That's when I heard a voice humming. I hid behind a tree. I heard of these fables, the ones who were stupid enough to wander around the woods alone would often encounter what people called witches. Seemingly human, but with monstrous powers.
I tried listening to the humming. I felt warm, almost comforted by the sound. I racked my brain, trying to remember witches powers and their effects on the common mortal. That song she was humming, it must be some sort of spell or enchantment
I plugged my ears with my fingers. How was I going to get out of this?
‘’Running, like you always do y/n’’
Right, I looked around before stepping out from my hiding spot, ready to run once again
Unfortunately for me, grace wasn’t one of my fortee, nor was my vision so it seems, has i had failed to notice a small root sticking out from the ground, making me trip and fall down
The humming stopped.
I cursed under my breath. I looked up to be met with an oddly familiar face. She simply giggled, looking down at me.
I stood up before taking a step back, cautious to who or what i had encountered.
‘’You’re hurt’’ she almost whispered while looking at me
Her voice sounded like pure silk, something bringing me almost as much comfort as it had for fear a few seconds prior.
I knew better than to fall under a witches charm. Yet, I stood frozen as she approached me, unable to look away from her delicate features and her chocolate eyes. Her hand made contact with my face, making me slightly jump. Her gaze met mine again, this time seemingly worried.
‘’S-sorry’’ I mumbled. She smiled before letting go of my face.
‘’Make sure to clean that cut and put pomade on it, if you want it to heal’’ she looked down with a shy smile
‘’Oh..I will’’ I replied before shaking myself out of this trance like state
‘’I'll be on my way’’ she excused herself before walking away
I ran back to the cottage, feeding the chickens with what I had gathered before finally settling down inside. I looked at my reflection, a cut was present where the women had touched my face. I gathered water from the kitchen, taking a small bowl to bring some over to my room.
I sat down before plunging face first into the bowl. At least I could clean up the wound.
Satisfied, I undressed and laid down. I stared at the rotting ceiling, wood really couldn't last long against the rain I thought. I turned to lay on my side, staring out the window.
Images of earlier came to mind. I wasn't sure if I liked the woman I encountered or if it was only the spell of a witch, either way, I was probably only touch deprived.
She was just one of many faces I would come across and never see again.
——
Yet another crack of dawn fell upon the village.
I unwillingly opened my eyes to be blinded by the waking sun.
If I were to wake up early enough, maybe uncle wouldn't catch me leaving for the day. I wasn’t willing to fulfill my duties per usual, so I opted on escaping to the village for another of our fighting tournaments. I quickly dressed up in my red cardigan father had given me, before exiting by the room’s window. I walked through the field before joining the main path. After a few minutes, I knocked on my friend’s front door.
Only a few seconds passed before she opened the door.
‘’Y/n!’’ she exclaimed
‘’Ready for another successful day Yooh?’’
She nodded with a grin before following me outside. She left to gather any possible fighters while I set up the scene, simply marking a line in the dirt behind one of the houses in the village.
I then settled down Yooh’s bet’s hat, anyone agreeing to fight or to watch had to place a bet against us, thus making us quite the coin after each fight.
When Yooh came back with a crowd, we decided on an order. A few foreigners in town would be fighting a few locals, then, the winner would go against me for the final.
We collected the bets and let the fights start after explaining a few base rules.
——
The crowd started getting bigger after a few rounds. More and more familiar faces stacked up around the circle. I felt a hand on my shoulder and turned around to be faced with none other than Lee Gahyeon.
‘’Well if it isn’t the princess herself’’ I teased, slightly bowing.
She grinned from ear to ear, making me do the same.
‘’Y/n, you know not to address me as such around here” she lightly scolded.
‘’How is the farm life treating you dear friend’’ I asked, a bit concerned.
‘’Better than you it seems” she teased, pointing out my rough figure.
‘’The difference between you and me Gahyeon, is that i'm letting myself have fun while away from the castle’’
‘’And I only have a month left before returning to my family, so who is really the winner here y/n?’’ she grinned
Gahyeon was a princess sent here for the same purpose as I was. Only difference being her coming from a different kingdom, one adjacent to mine. Our families were allies. Once they heard about our family’s famous tradition, they decided on sending Gahyeon out into the world as well.
‘’Well i suppose i'll be lonely then’’ I playfully winked at her, making her giggle
Our attention was brought back to the fight when Yooh announced a winner, it was then that I turned around and saw the hooded girl again. There was this insatiable feeling inside of me, I needed to know her name. But as I started walking towards her, Gahyeon pulled me back.
‘’Don’t think you're escaping from me so easily prince charming’’ she grinned
Although I would have joined Gahyeon's stories, I was still distracted by the stranger. I turned the other way again, meeting the mysterious eyes through the crowd.
Those eyes, I could recognize them anywhere, an object of fascination against my own will. I was taken aback once I realized it was the same woman I had encountered in the woods. But before I could do anything, she ducked with a seemingly disappointed expression on her face.
I tried following after her, but Gahyeon was there to stop me again as well as Yoohyeon this time. She called me in for the final fight. I stepped into the circle, looking up to see my opponent. I frowned, I had never seen this type of attire, probably a foreigner.
Yoohyeon announced the rules again, the winner would win it all. Enticing amount of money for anyone that wasn’t royal. The fight started and I was able to immediately put my opponent to the ground. He managed to pull me off a few times but I was not going to let him take the win.
I pushed him once again to the ground, he groaned before shouting some words I could not understand. I heard some commotion in the crowd and immediately turned around to yoohyeon, seeing the girl fighting the friend of my rival. They were trying to steal the prize from her.
I was about to run to Yoohyeon but my opponent pulled me back.
I felt a stinging pain in my left leg. I looked down to see the man pulling out his dagger out my leg. I let myself fall onto the ground, now clutching at the wound.
I screamed to Yoohyeon to warn her, to let them go so she wouldn't get hurt. The crowd had already corwarded away, leaving the 2 men against me and Yoohyeon.
She let them go after being thrown to the ground.
I got back on my two feet and approached her
‘’I'm so sorry about this situation, are you okay dear?’’ I asked worried
I helped her pull herself off the ground, it's then that I saw a tear running down her face.
‘’yooh’’ I wiped away the tears, turning her face towards me.
‘’Its my fault, i couldn't fight him off, and now he's gone with the money’’ she muttered out
‘’Yooh, no one could of predicted this, it’s my fault if anything, i told you to stop fighting them, i didn't want you to get hurt’’ I reassured
‘’why-’’ she stopped her sentenced when she looked down at my bloodied leg
‘’Y/n! what happened’’ she crouched, touching around the wound.
‘’That bastard had a dagger on him, but i'll be fine’’
She seemed to disagree with me and retrieved her hand from the wound, looking at the substance now on her fingers.
‘’I think he had poison on that dagger, look’’ she showed me the green substance that she retrieved from the wound.
She then stood up before pulling on my arm ‘’Follow me, we need to get some medicine for you’’
I stopped her ‘’Yoohyeon you also have injuries, please go rest back home, i'll fix myself later’’ She was about to fight my decision but I glared at her.
‘’Fine’’ she pouted
‘’I’ll bring you back home now’’ i left her no choice
‘’right, prince charming’’ she joked
‘’I do this because I care about you, not because I was raised this way’’
—--
You led yoohyeon back to the safety of her home before going your own way.
You looked down at your leg. ‘’I have to fix this now’’
You weren’t knowledgeable in medicine and even less poisonous substances. But you did know a friend that could help you on that matter. You didn't like him much, but it was better than letting that substance simmer inside your flesh.
You made your way to his house and knocked.
Quickly your eyes were met with a cocky grin from the tall boy.
‘’Well, well, how could I help my dear Y/n today?’’
You scoffed at him ‘’Well, one of the fighter decided it was a good idea to wound me with poison today’’
He frowned, now serious ‘’I see, let me take a look at it’’ he made sign for you to enter.
You sat down on one of the chairs in his cabin. He kneeled before looking at the wound, He seemed fascinated by it, letting out some noises of excitement
‘’Anything?’’ you asked
‘’Y/n, a master needs time to complete his work’’ he smiled
He stood up before going towards his bed, picking up a book from it. ‘’From the color, texture, that wound…I don't think that's going to kill you, not yet anyway. Only thing, I dont have the plant you need here for your remedy’’ he seemed pensive
‘’Can you help me or i am wasting my time here?’’
‘’I sure can, although the plant I need is a bit far from here. I do have a brief sketch of it that should help you find it’’ he explained, ripping a page from his book.
You took the page out of his hands before walking towards the exit. ‘’Your welcome!’’ he screamed towards you before you disappeared from his view.
——
‘’This shouldn't be too hard’’ you repeated to yourself while walking further into the forest.
You approached a small water stream, stopping there to refresh yourself after the long and painful walk. As you stopped there, you heard shouting in the distance
You stood up and walked towards the source, curiosity getting the best of you.
You quickly hid when you noticed a man pointing his gun at a hooded figure. Intelligible words were exchanged between the two before the man threw the person to the ground. In a matter of seconds he then aggressively stepped on their ankle before stealing their belongings.
You came out of hiding to confront the man but he was already running away. You ran to the women that was on the ground
‘’Miss, may I help you? Why did that men attack you?’’ You asked
You waited for her response but only heard her sniffle. It was when she turned her face to meet your gaze that you recognized her face. ‘’A witch’’ you accidentally blurted out ‘’Is that why he attacked you?’’ she nodded at the question
‘’I won't hurt you’’ you quickly jutted out
‘’I believe you, I have seen you quite a few times around y/n’’ she inquired.
You were shocked at the mention of your name. She seemed to notice your confusion and tittle her head with a smile
‘’May I know your name?’’
‘’Of course, I'm Minji, or Jiu for short’’ she smiled through the pain.
She tried standing up but failed due to her injury. You offered her your hand and helped her stand. She tried putting weight on her feet but groaned at the feeling, gripping onto your hand for support.
‘’Oh your ankle, I can help you back home’’ you reassured but her smile dropped.
‘’I dont think its a good idea to bring me back home seeing as though you have a lover waiting for you back there’’
You frowned, confused.
‘’The princess?’’ she quirked her eyebrow
‘’Oh, that is not my lover. We are friends’’ you replied. She simply nodded
‘’Wait, how do you know she's a princess?’’ you asked curiously
‘’She isn't exactly trying to hide it with her gold brooch’’ she replied, making you laugh
‘’I also have noticed your embroidery dear prince’’ she seemingly teased, making you blush
She let go of your hand and tried walking on her own but to no avail. You grabbed onto her again. ‘’Let me help?’’
‘’You know what i am don't you?’’
You slowly nodded, trying to understand what she was trying to say.
‘’Then you shouldn't be here, even less at my house, which is near the coven’’ she explained.
‘’Minji, you can't walk on your own, I promise i'll be quick and of no disturbance’’ you slightly bowed, long forgetting your own injury to help the women in front of you. She sighted, knowing she had no other choices but to accept.
‘’Fine, but you should wear this, so as to not be recognized as an intruder’’ She gently took off her hooded cape and gave it to you. She helped you put it on properly, tying the front and placing the hood above your head.
You noticed a small frown on her features before she gently touched your cheek
‘’You didn’t put pomade on it, did you?’’ she asked with a teasing smile
‘’Oh, I must of forgotten, i’m sorry’’
she simply replied with a nod and a grin
You gave your hand to Jiu, holding onto it firmly to help her walk back home.
——
After what felt like an eternity, you could see the edge of wooden roofs starting to peek through the foliage.
As you walked closer to the village with Jiu, you observed the magnificent sight. A witch’s village was nothing short of breathtaking, unlike the horrible descriptions in those fables. Although the sight was to cherish, with all its greenery and uncommon forms, the sight that was to your right couldn't be beaten. It would be a lie to say you hadn’t peeked at Jiu’s profile throughout the long walk. You grew fonder of her soft chocolate eyes and her inviting smile. Although you had been too shy or preoccupied by her state to talk, the silence seemed to be comfortable. The both of you enjoying each other's company while admiring the surrounding nature.
The exterior of the small cabins were painted of eccentric colors and flowers were surrounding each and every building.
You both walked closer to what seemed to be her house. She opened the door before you helped her in. She then sat down onto her bed before looking back at you.
‘’Thank you y/n’’
You simply nodded, watching her uncomfortable figure trying to chase away the pain.
‘’Could you please bring my pain medicine? It's in my underground storage behind my house, you should be able to find it by the wooden trap there’’
You weren’t sure about wandering in such a place, but if it was to help Jiu feel better, then you would do so.
‘’What does the medicine resemble? you asked, unsure
‘’It a red glass bottle with a leather cap’’ she smiled
Having all the information you needed, you hesitantly stepped out of her cabin. You walked towards the back side of the building. A few meters away from its back wall, you noticed the wooden trap. To your surprise it was left open, making it easier for you to climb down in.
The place was quite dark, with only a faint flame lighting the room. You approached the light to start searching for Jiu’s medicine.
You heard a faint noise behind you, but before you could turn to the source, you were pinned against the harsh textured wall.
‘’Who are you and why are you here?’’ a smaller women asked, her knife to your throat
You gulped, ‘’I'm here for Jiu’’
‘’How do you know any of ours name’’
‘’I'm a friend of Jiu’’ you tried explaining but to no avail.
‘’I don’t believe strangers’’ she mentioned before pushing you to the ground. She let her weight pin you down to be able to tie your hands with some rope.
She commanded you to get up before asking more questions
‘’Jiu has been gone for hours now, why should I believe you when you could be the reason of her disappearance?’’
‘’Listen, your friend was attacked and I simply helped her get back home’’
The smaller women didn't reply, but simply approached you, now curiously looking at the embroidery on your chest.
‘’The Crimson palace…what is royalty even doing here?’’ she asked herself. She then walked a few steps around the dark room, seemingly in thought.
She looked at you after pondering, ‘’Who are you?’’
‘’It's not important, we need to go help Jiu’’ you replied, impatient to get back to the injured woman.
she harshly grabbed your face ‘’It is important if you want your pretty face to get out of here unmarked’’ she snarled.
You hesitated, blowing your cover wasn’t exactly meant to happen during this ‘learning session’ away from the palace. Especially not to witches.
Her hand started clenching harder around your face.
‘’I'm the prince’’ you finally jutted out, making her let go of your face
‘’There you go, was that so hard?’’ she giggled mischievously before pushing you out the room and up the stairs
‘’Where are we going?’’ you asked, unsure of what she planned on doing with vulnerable royalty.
‘’You’ll see soon, won't you?’’ she teased. She seemed unbothered by your sligh panic, enjoying the effect she had on you. To your relief, she walked you back to Jiu’s front door. She opened the door before pushing you in, making you fall to the floor.
‘’Is this someone you know?’’ she asked after putting her feet down on your back.
‘’Sua, be careful would you?’’ Jiu snarled at her
‘’Yes I do know them, they helped me get back here’’ she confirmed before letting herself to the ground to untie your hands from the harsh rope.
She looked over you like looking over porcelain, looking for any marks that would predict future shattering.
‘’i'm fine’’ you whispered to her with a reassuring smile
She looked back to Sua ‘’Do you at least have any medicine for me?’’
‘’Here’’ Sua took out a bottle from her satchel and threw it towards the bed
‘’If they do anything, just alert us with a scream’’ she explained before leaving the both of you alone.
Jiu painfully pulled herself back up to bed, ‘’I'm sorry about that y/n, Sua is…very protective’’
‘’I can tell’’ you smiled ‘’It only means you’ll be safe here, makes my heart a bit lighter’’ you admitted. You weren’t sure if it was the product of your imagination, but you swore in that moment you saw blush spread across her face.
She opened the bottle Sua had given to her and took out some of the medication to chew on.
‘’Is that all?’’ you asked, unsure if the medication alone would help her ankle. She giggled at your question before taking out something from under her bed.
She revealed a small wooden box. She pulled some bandages out from it before starting to twist the material around her ankle. You quickly kneeled before her, offering to help her. She smiled before letting you take the material to finish surrounding her ankle. You gently secured her ankle with the material before letting her foot down.
A few seconds passed. Waiting for any response, you looked up to catch her staring at you with a fond smile. You immediately looked back down, a bit embarrassed.
‘’Thank you y/n’’ she grinned
‘’It's nothing’’ you smiled back before getting up
But Minji frowned, looking down at your leg. ‘’Did Sua really cut your pants?’’
You looked down as well, now remembering your own injury ‘’It is not Sua’s doing, it is from a fight’’
‘’Can I have a look at it, I may be able to help you in return for your services’’ she pleaded
Without a word you simply sat down next to her. Her hands wandered around the wound on your thigh. She gently raised the material off your skin. Her expression seemed pained as she traced the cut. ‘’Do you know why the blood seems greenish?’’ she looked back at you
‘’I believe my opponent had poison on his dagger, which he was not suppose to use regardless’’ you huffed
‘’I see’’ Jiu helped herself up and made her way to a cabinet, grabbing a small jar from it. She came back and gave it to you. You noticed the symbol on it, it was the plant you were looking for earlier. ‘’How did you know this was the right antidote?’’ you looked a Jiu, surprised
‘’Well witches do have a few tricks up their sleeves’’ she winked, making you smile
You looked back down at the wound, ‘’Do I just apply it directly?’’ you questioned
Jiu giggled ‘’No we have to clean it first’’ She grabbed a small bottle from one of her shelf
‘’Here is some alcohol’’ she smiled. You watched dreadfully as she opened the bottle
‘’Maybe we do not have t-’’ she cut off your sentence by pouring some of the liquid on the cut. All that could be heard was your muffled groans as you harshly pressed your lips together.
Jiu watched the liquid fizzle, like some kind of potion she would be working on. She was about to pour more but you stopped her, pleading her to not do so.
‘’Oh, I'm sorry, I didn’t realize it hurt bad’’ she apologetically smiled before replacing the alcohol bottle with the small jar. She opened it before placing a generous amount of ointment on your wound. She gently spread it so as to not hurt you.
It's only now that you realized how close she was to you. Her body almost colliding with yours, you could feel the warmth radiating from her skin. A feeling you hoped would become familiar.
She gave you some bandages to finish treating the wound. ‘’Here, you should be able to recover now’’.
You stood up to properly wrap the material around your leg. Once secured, you noticed how the lighting seemed to have faded from earlier. You looked outside only to confirm that night was indeed approaching.
‘’Well, I will be on my way now, thank you for everything Minji’’ you bowed
‘’No need y/n, thank you for rescuing me today’’ she smiled
You felt that leaving her was causing your heart to ache. After finally meeting the mysterious woman, would you simply return home and never see her again? At last, you knew these questions wouldn't be answered by staying in her home, so you opted on wishing her a good night before exiting her house.
You made sure the wooden door was safely closed and locked before turning around. You stopped in your steps, met with none other than Sua and one taller girl. Her eyes went wide before turning into a teasing look
‘’Ah Sua, I will be heading home now’’ you explained
‘’Curious, with how long the two of you were in there, I believed you were staying the night’’ Her words surprised you, making you blush.
The other girl eyed you curiously before speaking. ‘’If you aren’t interested in Minji, we could spend some time together as well’’ she smirked. Sua elbowed the taller girl ‘’Dong, this is not the time to court’’ ‘’Fine, my excuses’’ she replied before sending you a wink as she made her way back towards what you assumed to be her house.
Sua turned back towards you ‘’Leave’’ she sternly directed to you
‘’Yes miss’’ you replied before making your way out of the village.
—---
A week has passed since you last saw Minji. Although she would usually present herself during the fighting tournaments, you assumed she couldn't make her usual errands in town with her ankle.
It didn't stop you from wondering if she was well, if someone was taking care of her or if she was recovered
You had been busy with tasks at home, but you planned to visit her. So when the next morning came, you quickly exited the house to make your way to her, hoping you wouldn't be ambushed by her friends again.
--
Making your way through the woods. you seemed to recognize the surroundings. The small stream, the flowers. Wasn’t this the place you first encountered Minji?
A sudden idea came to your mind. You approached the flowers, gently picking some of them. You place them in your bag, making sure to not fumble any of the petals before resuming your travels
—---
You saw the wooden roofs appear once again in the distance. You remembered the way, to your relief.
You carefully stepped foot into the village, looking around for signs of any of Jiu’s friends. When you judged the cost to be clear, you let yourself walk further into the small town. That's when you saw her, tending to some flowers near a cabin. She looked just as beautiful as the last time you had seen her. She was sitting on a small bench, her ankle still surrounded for protection.
You let yourself admire her for a bit, enjoying the scenery of it all. Although you felt peaceful at that moment, your heart started singing a song of its own. Its pace quickening at the mere sight of her.
Suddenly, Sua appeared behind her, bringing what looked like to be more flowers to tend too. And although Jiu hadn’t noticed you, Sua immediately did and took her dagger out before calling to you. She seemed to not remember you.She hastily made her way to you but Jiu finally turned around and made eye contact with you. She immediately smiled and called back the smaller woman, explaining to her you were the stranger who helped her a few days before.
Sua retreated before teasingly smiling at you once again. This time she let no word out, simply making a gesture for you to join Jiu.
You walked to where Jiu was sitting
‘’Y/n. How are you’’ she smiled brightly
‘’I am well, I hope you have recovered since our last meeting’’
‘’I do feel better, especially now that you are here’’ she teased before giggling at your shy expression
You reached into your bag, carefully pulling out the flowers you picked earlier. You looked down at them, breathing in before having enough courage to look back up at her. You placed the flowers in front of her, still holding onto them ‘’I wanted to give these to you’’ you shyly expressed.
You didn’t quite understand what was happening to you. You never felt much. You always passed as the cold hearted person who had no time to spare for any strangers. But here you were, feeling your chest fill with butterflies as you looked into this woman's eyes.
She gently took them into her own hands. Looking gleefully over them, smelling the different flowers you had brought to her.
She looked back at you with a grateful smile ‘’Thank you y/n’’
‘’They reminded me of you’’ you blurted out
She giggled, looking back at them ‘’Is that so?’’
For once in your life, you decided to act on your feelings instead of the logic your brain was trying so hard to push onto you.
‘’I like you..Minji’’ you looked at her, only to see her shocked.
Scared, you looked back down to your feet. That was until you felt her warmth close to you once again. You could recognize that feeling anywhere, her presence was one you could never forget, intoxicating yet a blessing.
You felt her fingers hook themselves under your chin, encouraging your gaze to meet hers. Her gaze looked sincere and loving. ‘’I admire you a lot y/n’’ she said in almost a whispers
‘’I'm sorry about what I said’’ You tried explaining yourself.
What you failed to notice all this time was that Jiu felt attracted to you as well, wondering at night where you were, if you also thought about her and missed her.
At the simple mention of her being a witch, people would either attack her or run, no one had been considerate enough to talk to her, let alone help her. You made her feel loved in a way no one before had been able too. Even when she had romantic interests, she would have to hide who she was. But with you, she let herself hope that things could be different.
Noticing the silence, you tried speaking up again ‘’I should of not sai-’’
Jiu wasn’t gonna let you finish that sentence, she wanted to let you know just how much she appreciated your existence. She pulled you in for the softest yet most passionate kiss. Her lips weren't rough nor distant, a perfect amount of pressure accompanied by a slow and loving rhythm.
You felt hypnotized, her lips casting a spell on you, her body pressing against you like she was the puzzle piece you were missing. Her hand gently grazed against the back of your neck while you held onto her waist.
for the first in a while, you felt happy. Like life had a meaning, like the world was given back its colors.
You once believed love was a curse, but if she was the one casting it, then it was well worth it.

Masterlist
Summary: “... You should be with someone that respects you, Kaminari, not someone who’s gonna make you question if what you said or did was wrong or make you feel like shit for something you can’t help.”
“Like who?”
Me.
Hitoshi has officially been in Class 1-A for a full month now.
For the most part, everything was just about the same as before he was transferred into the Hero Course, with the addition of training and his new acquaintances (not friends, not yet). He still had his normal classes like English and Mathematics, but now he also has the addition of Heroics with All Might and afternoon training in Gym Gemma. He’s gotten better at changing the pitch of his voice changer at a faster speed mid fight. He’s even succeeded in capturing Bakugou mid-fight, and that in itself is a win considering how tough of an opponent he can be.
And he no longer stays in his room, sure there are days where he separates himself from his class to recharge his social battery, but he finds himself joining everyone downstairs more often than not, especially if Kaminari is around.
Speaking of, he supposed that he has him to thank for that little change.
He still finds being around his classmates for longer than a few hours after classes have ended to be a pain, but he finds it more bearable when Kaminari is around. Maybe it’s because the blond knows how to steer a conversation, forcing the attention onto him rather than the insomniac. Either way, it helps him feel more comfortable when there’s more than just the two of them in the room.
He still wouldn’t admit it out loud if you confronted him, but he actually enjoys Kaminari’s company. More than he thought he would. Ever since that one Sunday night a few weeks back, he finds himself wanting to be around Kaminari more.
A part of him doesn’t like it, mostly because it’s weird to have a friend who doesn’t make comments about his Quirk and doesn’t imply all of the villainous acts he could do with it, it’s new. But that’s also why he does like it. Kaminari isn’t like everyone else.
And he likes to think that because they’ve been hanging out so much, and that Hitoshi actually enjoys his company, that he has gotten to know the blond well enough to know when something is wrong.
         Like now, for instance.
Everyone in the class could sense that something was off with Kaminari and Jirou’s dynamic. Though the dark-haired girl wasn’t affectionate like her counterpart, she did joke around with Kaminari, even though some of the jokes she made something in Hitoshi’s stomach churn. And Kaminari knows she doesn’t like public displays of affection, so he finds other ways to swoon her during class; little gifts like snacks would find their way onto the corner of her desk at random hours of the day, an extra pen in case she forgot hers, offering to carry her bag when going to their next class, stuff like that.
But for the past couple of days, there has been none of that. They wouldn’t even look at each other for more than a few seconds.
Everyone knows something happened, they were all at the ramen shop last Friday, they all saw her storm out with Momo trailing after her, eventually watching Kaminari follow after them both. Hitoshi saw the concern and worry on Kaminari’s face that night, but mostly an expression of pure confusion.
But it was Sunday morning that he knew something went wrong between them.
Hitoshi had spent Saturday night at the family apartment on campus for diner, he and Eri had stayed up until it was close to midnight watching movies before Shouta had shooed them off to bed for the night, Hitoshi found it a bit hypocritical how he shooed them off to bed only to stay up to grade papers until Hizashi had come down to collect him.
The next morning, Hitoshi had made his way to the kitchen, following the smell of freshly cooked bacon. He knew his Dad wouldn’t be there, he hosted tutoring sessions in the mornings on the weekends, and knew that if he wasn’t in the kitchen, that he was at the school for one of his tutoring sessions.
Half way through breakfast, his Pops spoke up.
“Are you heading back to the dorms soon?” Hizashi asked, making Hitoshi look up from his plate.
The purple-haired teen nodded, “Yeah, probably once we’re done eating. I left my homework at my dorm, and I need to see if Midoriya will let me borrow his notes again.”
“Can you do me a favor and take your father his lunch, please?”
“Won’t he be done by lunch?” Hitoshi asked.
Hizashi reaches over to pick up his glass, “Yeah, he’ll be done tutoring by then, but he has a meeting with a detective for a case. You know he won’t take care of himself if I don’t send him something to eat.”
So that’s how he found himself wandering the halls of the main school building until he reached his father’s classroom, a bento box in one hand, and his phone in the other while he looked at the news.
“Another sighting of the villain known at Dabi has been spotted down at the port last night, our sources tell us that he as well as the League of Villains are connected to the recent explosion in downtown Tokyo. Police are still refusing to make any statements, but are continuing their investigation–”
Hitoshi had shut off his screen, deciding that it was best to not read any more of that article.
For all of his hopes to follow in his parents’ footsteps, there were days where he wished that they weren’t in the Hero business, especially when he reads news like that. What the hell would they be in Tokyo for anyway?
Hitoshi had stopped outside his father’s classroom, raising a hand to knock when he heard two voices from the otherside.
         “It’s B.”
“It’s A.” He hears his father correct.
There is a grumble from the otherside. “This is hopeless…”
A pause, followed by the sound of footsteps. “It may not seem like much, but you have improved since last weekend.” Hitoshi hears a scoff. “... Are you alright?”
         “What do you mean?”
“To put it lightly? You look like shit, kid.” Hitoshi smirked at that.
He hears a laugh. He recognizes that laugh, and he smiles at the sound without realizing it. “It’s nothing to worry about.” A pause, followed by a sigh. “Really, Sensei, I’m fine. I just…” He hears him trail off. He sounded tired. “Why numbers? I understand letters like the back of my hand, but numbers? What maniac came to the conclusion that math was a necessity? Who?”
Hitoshi knocks, “Dad?” he calls out, sliding the door open. He’s met with the sight of Kaminari hunched over his desk, and his father leaning back against the podium. He stops and examines Kaminari.
         Kaminari did look like shit.
Normally, the blond greets him with a smile, a grin, a fucking smirk, his lips would be turned upwards no matter what. But he was met with a frown instead.
Hitoshi clears his throat, tearing his eyes away and holds up the bento. “Pops asked me to bring you lunch. And to remind you to take your meds.”
“Of course he did.” Shouta pushes off from the podium, hiding the small smile creeping its way onto his face with his scarf. “Thank you.”
Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Kaminari looking at him, but when he goes to return the look, the blond looks away.
         Weird.
That night, Hitoshi texts Kaminari first.
I’m hopping on mc, you joining?
He was met with the thumbs-down emoji, followed by; can’t. homework.
This makes Hitoshi frown. Kaminari normally sends him a paragraph for a reply. Are you okay?
Three dots. i’m fine. He didn’t even capitalize the I. Before Hitoshi could think of a response, Kaminari adds, i’ll text you later. The purple-haired teen stared at his phone for a moment, reading over Kaminari’s responses before he eventually shuts off his screen and goes to log onto Minecraft, expecting that follow up he was promised.
But that follow up never came. And it doesn’t for a few days.
From an outside perspective, Kaminari probably seems like his normal self. Cracking jokes, poking fun with his classmates, holding conversations with Sero and Mina over the most random of subjects that have zero context or meaning. Kaminari did seem fine.
Hitoshi knew he wasn’t. From his perspective, Kaminari was mimicking him and his sleep schedule, as the blond seemed exhausted, quieter in the past week alone. And he wondered if the rest of his friend’s squad had noticed too (he says “his friend’s” as he doesn’t see himself as a part of their group yet), and just hasn’t said anything.
Hitoshi sees the way he’s sluggish during training, how his response time is off by a few seconds. And he’s definitely noticed the way he avoids Jirou at all costs, and the looks Jirou gives him in return. Speaking of the earjack hero in training, he noticed how she has simmered down in the past week, the daggers in her eyes were more like dull blades used for show now.
It all comes to a head Thursday morning.
Hitoshi had walked into class, rubbing away the remaining sleep from his eyes. As usual, he walks into the endless chatter of his classmates, some still waking themselves to pay attention to today’s lesson plan, others engaging in conversations that either have zero meaning behind it or are discussing homework or something along those lines.
As he sits down, he looks to his right and sees the hyperactive blond being not so hyperactive. Kaminari had his arms folded across his desk and was currently resting his forehead on top of his folded arms, he looked as though he was half-way to being asleep.
Hitoshi thought about reaching over, giving him a shake and asking to see if he was okay. But he already knows that he’s not okay, he hasn’t been okay for the past week, ever since that night in the ramen shop. What good would asking him do if he already knew the answer?
“Hey, Ji. How are you holding up?”
Behind him, he hears Hagakure. Casting Kaminari a subtle but concerned look, he peaks over his shoulder to see the invisible girl talking to Jirou.
Now that he’s giving her a good look over, she was almost as bad as Kaminari, but her eyes weren’t as puffy as his. The girl shrugs, “I’m fine.”
Hitoshi almost scoffs. Why does everyone keep saying that when they clearly aren’t fine?
If he could see the invisible girl’s face, he would probably see a frown. “Have you spoken to him since the break up?”
Hitoshi snaps his head forward, eyes wide in shock. “No… We decided to give each other some space for a bit.” He hears Jirou say. He looks over to his right, seeing Kaminari peeking over his arms, eyes trained on the back of Ojiro’s chair. Did he hear them too?
         Apparently the whole class heard.
“Wait what?” Uraraka spoke up, Hitoshi looked and saw her looking directly at the girls. “You and Kaminari broke up?” Looking past the three of them, he could see Momo staring at them blankly, like she was already expecting this reaction. She already knew.
But Uraraka’s question stirred up the entire class.
“What? Kami, why didn’t you say anything?” Mina frowned at the electric blond, who only shrugged in response and buried his head further into his arms.
Bakugou’s frown (one that is practically tattooed on his face) deepened, and reached back and across to poke at Kaminari. “Oi,” He was quiet. “Pikachu?”
“I’m fine.” They hear him mutter. Behind them, most of the class was asking Jirou the questions. Only those from their group (minus Jirou, obviously) were checking in on Kaminari.
The commotion hadn’t died down when Shouta had walked into the classroom. Even Iida hadn’t bothered telling everyone to get to their seats when he noticed the teacher walking in.
For that half an hour, the classroom was tense. If Hitoshi was paying attention to his dad, he would have seen him casting a questioning look in his direction. But Hitoshi didn’t pay attention, he kept his attention on Kaminari instead.
Throughout the entire day, Hitoshi noticed how Kaminari seemed distant from everyone. The blond kept his head down during classes, and he hadn’t even shown up for lunch, Bakugou had to go and drag him into the cafeteria just to make sure he ate.
In between classes, Kaminari would walk with a notebook and pen in his hand, scribbling things down. Hitoshi had peaked over his shoulder out of curiosity and saw that it was one of his extra assignments. He’s worse than Midoriya. And the green-haired boy would be switching between three assignments while maintaining a conversation with Todoroki in between his unnatural muttering.
“Aye, date un respiro, hombre.” Sero clasps a hand on the blond’s shoulder, slightly shaking him from his thoughts before switching back to Japanese. “Seriously, don’t stress yourself. We’re doing a study group at Bakugou’s tonight so just join us.”
Kaminari looked as though he was giving it some thought before shaking his head. “No, it’s fine. I kind of want to get it done before Ectoplasm’s class.”
I don’t want to be around people, right now. Was what Hitoshi heard. He’s well rehearsed in avoiding people, and that was the oldest line in the book. And judging by the look Sero was giving him, he didn’t believe him either.
Sero gives him a small smile, giving his shoulder a light squeeze. “Ok, guapo. If you change your mind, we’ll be in Bakugou’s room until seven.”
Kaminari nods before speeding away from the black-haired teen. Sero frowned as he watched him walk away, and so did Hitoshi.
When afternoon training came, Kaminari had been excused from the class and was given a permission slip to head back to the dorms early. He knew his father noticed Kaminari’s exhaustion, he was practically mimicking Hitoshi even if he didn’t mean to.
So during practice, Hitoshi was paired with Bakugou, who he quickly learned was hard of hearing due to his Quirk. About halfway through the round, Hitoshi had to switch to sign-language (something he had picked up for his Pops, who also was hard of hearing as a result of his Quirk), which took the angry teen by surprise.
Hiding around the corner to avoid Tokoyami and Dark Shadow, the two of them had a silent conversation.
“Which should we go after first?” Hitoshi signed, ignoring the wide-eyed look on Bakugou’s face.
“Since when can you fucking sign?” Bakugou asked.
         Hitoshi shrugged. “Does it matter?”
Bakugou didn't reply right away, instead, he grabbed Hitoshi by the wrist and moved them until they were higher up with an advantage. Hitoshi felt a tap on his shoulder, he looked over in time to make out Bakugou’s question. “Have you spoken to Pikachu today?”
With furrowed brows, Hitoshi looked between Bakugou and Tokoyami below them. “No. Have you?” He was met with a shake of the head. “How long were they together?”
“A couple of months. Not sure what happened though.” Bakugou pauses. “... Don’t say anything, but I’m glad they broke up.”
         “Why?”
Bakugou scoffs. “Because they don’t work well as a couple.” He replies. “You should talk to him.”
Before Hitoshi could question him further, acid was sprayed in their direction.
Unfortunately for Tokoyami and Mina, they had fallen for Hitoshi’s voice changer, and were deemed subdued, leaving him and Bakugou as the winner of this training match.
Mina was pouting all the way back to the entrance of Ground Beta. “No fair, how we’re we supposed to tell if that was you or one of us?” She questioned.
But Hitoshi hadn’t been paying attention to the pink-haired girl, so Bakugou responded for him, “That was the point, Racoon Eyes.” The angry teen rolled his eyes. “You guys aren’t meant to know if it’s him or not. That’s what makes him fucking better.”
Mina stopped, mouth gaping at Bakugou. “Did… Did you just compliment someone that wasn’t you or Kiri?”
“Go to hell!” Bakugou sped up, but not before the rush of red colored his cheeks. Mina kept up her teasing while they made their way back.
Hitoshi didn’t speak up again until they were in the locker room. Their match was the last one for the day, and as a result, they were the last ones in the locker room. Tokoyami left first, Dark Shadow peeking out to say goodbye before leaving them alone.
As Hitoshi pulled his shirt down over his head, he looked in Bakugou’s direction, watching as he reached for a pair of hearing aids. Once his shirt was one, he started signing again.
“I thought you got your hearing back when you were talking to Mina?”
Bakugou shook his head. “I can read lips, as long as they’re not moving too fast.”
Hitoshi nods, and waits for Bakugou to put in his hearing aids before he speaks. “What did you mean earlier?” Bakugou gives him a questioning look. “About Kaminari and Jirou not working as a couple.”
“Tsk.” The blond reaches for his bag, pulling the strap onto his shoulder. “Ears had a tendency to take her shitty jokes too far. Pikachu may seem laid back and doesn’t fucking care about what people say about him, but he does.”
         “Why didn’t-”
         “-He fucking say anything?”
         “Or any of you?”
Bakugou shrugs, “We’ve tried. She came into our group not too long after they started dating, so we had a little more time to know what was okay to joke about and what he didn’t want us to talk about. But whenever one of us would try to fucking correct her, Pikachu would shrug it off, saying that it was a shitty joke.” He explained.
“Why me?” Confused, Hitoshi asked, “You said that I should talk to him, but shouldn’t one of you do that? You’ve known him longer.”
“That’s why it should be you.” Still clearly confused, Bakugou sighed and continued. “He has a tendency to fucking brush shit off, if one of us tried to talk to him, he’d fucking plaster a smile on his face and throw a joke or two. He won’t fucking talk.”
“That doesn’t explain why I should be the one to talk to him. What good could I do if the people he’s known longer can’t get him to open up.”
“Damn, you really are dense.” Bakugou mutters, shaking his head. “It’s different with you. ‘No clue why, but he’s taken a fucking liking to you. He’ll talk to you. I know it.”
When they had gotten back to the dorms, there was no sign of the electric blond. When Bakugou had asked (to know how much to cook for dinner), Kirishima had told them that he was still in his room. Hitoshi confirms this when walking into his room, hearing the sound of music coming through the door across the hall.
The music stays on until it gets closer to midnight, 11:43 shining in red LED tells him the time. Hitoshi had finished his homework a while ago, and he was back on his Switch playing Mario Kart, trying to beat his best speed when he heard the music cut off abruptly.
The teen looks up from the device and looks toward his door. He waits, expecting the music to come back on with a change in song, but the noise never comes.
“What good could I do if the people he’s known longer can’t get him to open up.”         “He’ll talk to you. I know it.” Just what the hell did he mean by that?
Out of curiosity, Hitoshi disregards his Switch and reaches for his phone, unlocking it and opening his chat with the blond.
What are we listening to tonight?
Instead of seeing the three dots dancing at the bottom of the screen, he sees the grayed-out check mark underneath his message turn green, indicating that it had been seen. But he receives no response.
Hitoshi frowns, laying on his back as he stares at the screen, still expecting those three dots to appear at any moment.
So Hitoshi starts typing again. Any chance I can make a request? We could be the dorm’s personal radio show. He jokes. But the only indication that Kaminari has seen his text is that green checkmark underneath his message.
He sighs, shutting off his screen. Clearly Kaminari didn’t want to talk. Then again, he could have not even been looking at his phone, he could just have their chat open and that’s why they were being marked as read.
No, that’s a stupid explanation. Besides, if their messages were open, that would mean Kaminari was planning on texting him back, so why hasn’t he?         “What good could I do if the people he’s known longer can’t get him to open up.”         “He’ll talk to you. I know it.”
He opens his eyes to the sound of his phone ringing. When did he even close them?
Hitoshi raises his phone, eyes widening slightly when he sees Kaminari’s name on his screen. Without thinking, he immediately swipes his thumb right to answer. “Hey-”
“Step into the hallway.” Hitoshi almost drops his phone from how rough Kaminari sounded.
Curiously (and more so out of concern), he does as told. Swinging open his door and stepping out, frowning at the sight of an empty hallway. “Where are you?”
“Across from Iida’s room.” Kaminari tells him, Hitoshi walks until he’s standing in front of Iida’s room, and across from his door is an open window.
The purple-haired teen hangs up and immediately climbs through it, leading him to the roof that connects both wings of Height Alliance. His feet (thankfully covered by the fluffy socks that Eri had picked out for him at the mall) hit the asphalt, and ahead of him, Kaminari is lowering his phone from his ear.
The blond was laying on his back, his knees drawn up as he looked up at the sky. Tonight, the skies were clear, the school was high enough away from the rest of the city that looking up from here, they could see stars shining brightly.
Hitoshi is hesitant to move at first, unsure as to why Kaminari was out here, let alone inviting him out here with him. But he finds himself moving toward him anyway, eventually sitting down next to the other teen, drawing up his knees to rest his arms on.
Neither of them say anything at first. But neither of them seemed to mind the silence, it was a comfortable silence that greeted them, aside from the sound of crickets that echoed in the grass below, and the familiar commotion of their classmates getting ready for bed (unless you were Bakugou, then you were already asleep).
“Did you know that electricity has a sound?” Hitoshi looks behind him, looking down at Kaminari, who hadn’t looked to meet his gaze. “Most people don’t even notice that there’s a sound until it’s been cut off. It’s quiet, barely noticeable in general. But when the power cuts off, you can hear the silence. It’s kind of nerve racking.” Kaminari explains.
“Is that why you’re out here?”
The question makes Kaminari bend his head to look at Hitoshi. But he nods. “It’s too loud. Most of the time, I can ignore it. But with my Quirk… it’s hard to sometimes.”         “Can’t you still hear it out here though?”
Kaminari shrugs. “Yeah, it's not as bad though.”
Another round of silence falls over them for a minute. Kaminari looks back up at the sky, and Hitoshi lies down next to him to do the same.
“What did you mean earlier? About Kaminari and Jirou not working as a couple.”
His conversation with Bakugou rang in his ears again, nagging at him. He finds himself turning his head to look at the blond laying next to him, Bakugou talking in his ear again.
“Tsk. Ears had a tendency to take her shitty jokes too far. Pikachu may seem laid back and doesn’t fucking care about what people say about him, but he does.”
He couldn’t help but to think that there was some truth in Bakugou’s words.         “She came into our group not too long after they started dating, so we had a little more time to know what was okay to joke about and what he didn’t want us to talk about. But whenever one of us would try to fucking correct her, Pikachu would shrug it off, saying that it was a shitty joke.”
He bites back a sigh. Just how many times had you shrugged shit off, Kaminari? He wanted to ask him. But he knows better. If the roles were reversed, he wouldn’t want to explain it either. Besides, for the most part, he and Jirou seemed to really have liked each other.
“... I’m sorry to hear about the break up.” He thought that was a good way to start. “How are you holding up?”
         “I’m fine.”
It sounded forced. So Hitoshi pressed. “Okay, now the truth this time.” He found himself repeating the same words his Pops’ used on him a while back, keeping his voice soft in hopes of making Kaminari comfortable enough to talk.
The blond didn’t say anything at first, Hitoshi thinks he wasn’t going to say anything at all. He doesn’t blame him though.
But then Kaminari sighs, his eyes squeezing shut as he brings his hands up to cover his face. “Not fine.” He groans, clearly not wanting to talk about it.
“What happened with you two, anyway?” Hitoshi presses, hearing him sigh again. “I’m not going to force you to talk about it but… it’s not good to bottle things up-”
“What would you know?” There was a snap in the blond’s voice, who dropped his hands from his face in favor of sending him a glare. “You’ve never been in a relationship before, remember?”
“No, but I have experience with heartbreak.” He kept his voice even. He watches Kaminari deflate a little. “And I know first hand the consequences of bottling things up. Eventually, that bottle cracks, and it keeps cracking until you’re saying all the things you didn’t want to say anyway. So, let it out.”
Kaminari goes quiet, just like he has been over the past week. But Hitoshi doesn’t push anymore, he wants him to open up on his own.
It’s kind of funny when you look at this, he’s using the same tactics Hizashi and Shouta had used on him when he came to live with them a little over a year ago. Even though the situations are different, it feels like the right move. It’s hard to describe.
“... I fucked up.” Hitoshi looks toward the blond again, finding a look of guilt on his face. “And I didn’t even realize how much I had fucked up until it was over.”
         “What do you mean?”
“She was jealous-” He cuts himself off, closing his eyes to think. “I um, I talked to Momo after homeroom, and I asked her how Ky- Jirou was doing,” Hitoshi could tell that it was hard to call her by her family name after getting so used to using her given name. “And I know she’s just looking out for her, I do. But she called me out for not being there when I should’ve been.”
He knew it wasn’t the full story. And he knew that he probably wouldn’t get it, at least, not anytime soon. So Hitoshi nods, processing what he was told, Bakugou’s words from earlier ringing in his ears. “You know… she wasn’t…” He trails off, unsure how to word this. “I noticed how she treated you,” He starts, which as a reward, Kaminari turns to look at him. “I noticed the comments she makes, how you just laugh them off when no one else does-”
“She was only joking when she called me dumb.”
“Bullshit.” Kaminari’s eyes lock with his. “You don’t call someone you care about an idiot or make fun of them for how their Quirk affects them, especially when they have no control over it.”
“I wasn’t exactly the perfect boyfriend-”
“Well maybe she wasn’t the perfect girlfriend, either.” Disbelief crosses the blond’s face. “Jirou is a nice girl, and she’s a good friend. That I don’t doubt… But-”
         “But what?”
“I think you two were a bit toxic with each other, not on purpose, but you brought out different sides to each other that weren’t healthy.”
Kaminari is quiet again. Hitoshi sighs, looking up at the sky. Above them, he can see the blinking lights of an airplane in the darkness.
“... You should be with someone that respects you, Kaminari, not someone who’s gonna make you question if what you said or did was wrong or make you feel like shit for something you can’t help.”
         “Like who?”
Me. Hitoshi freezes, but says nothing in response to Kaminari’s question. Nope. No. I’m not doing this. “Someone…” Me. “Someone like Sero, or Mina?”
Kaminari blinks at him before a laugh leaves his lips. And if that laugh did not make something in his chest flip… “Oh please. First of all, they’re into each other and are in denial.”
Hitoshi huffs out a laugh of his own. “And secondly?”
Kaminari holds his breath, wetting his lips. “... I- They’re practically family.”
“Maybe you can ask Mina to set you up with Aoyama.”
“Dude, that’s mean.” He turns his head in time to watch Kaminari laugh at the sky above them. He swallows, but doesn’t say anything. “Hey,” The blond looks toward him again, a grin on his face. “Denki.”
         “Uh?”
         “Call me Denki.”
         Hitoshi looks confused. “Why?”
“You tell everyone to call you by your given name, it’s only fair that someone lets you call them by theirs, right?” He looks more relaxed now, genuinely carefree. I like it.
Hitoshi breathes out, “Nice to meet you, Denki.”
A gentle breeze cuts through them, reminding them both that it was autumn, almost winter. Hitoshi watches Kami- Denki, shiver, making him notice that he was only wearing sweats and a t-shirt.
“We should go inside.” He tells him, sitting up on his elbows.
Denki sits up, shaking his head. “No,” He drags out.
“We’re not even supposed to be out here. And just because I’m the teacher’s kid, doesn’t mean I get special privileges.”
Then he pouts. Denki Kaminari was pouting, it made Hitoshi crack a smile as he stood up. “Boo.” Denki huffs, moving to stand up. He wobbles, and out of reflex, Hitoshi moves to steady him, his hands on his waist.
How he manages to bite down the blush that threatened to show itself, he doesn’t know. But Denki wasn’t as lucky. The blond looks up at him, a grin on his lips and a taunt in his eyes. “Damn, I just got out of a relationship, ‘Toshi. Patience.” He laughs.
Hitoshi doesn’t respond, his grip on Denki’s hips were loose, he could easily slip away from him but he didn’t. Now, it was no longer Bakugou’s voice echoing in his ear, but Denki’s.
         “Like who?” Me.
“Hitoshi?” Denki looks up at him, brows furrowed. He brings Hitoshi out of his thoughts long enough for him to notice Denki’s hands hovering over his chest. Fucking hell…
Hitoshi drops his hands and steps back, biting down the gulp. “Right, sorry. Come on,” He nods toward the window they crawled out of. “If we don’t freeze, my dad will definitely give us detention.”
Denki stares at him for a moment, before rolling his eyes and begins making his way toward the window. “I’m pretty sure your dad would stick us in a freezer for detention just to make a point.”
“If only you knew how much of a softy he actually is.”
Once they made their way back inside, and Hitoshi had closed the window behind them, they made their way back to their rooms. Both stopped in front of their doors, and Hitoshi finally had a clearer look now that they were in the light, he frowned at the sight of the growing eyebags under his eyes.
         Yeah, nope.
As Denki opened his door, Hitoshi slid past him, and the purple-haired boy immediately went to the mess of papers that lay scattered around his bed. Denki watched as he picked up his papers, confused.
         “What are you doing?”
“Making sure you don’t pass out in class tomorrow.” Hitoshi told him, grabbing an empty folding (which he assumed was where these papers were from) to store his homework. “This is coming with me and-” He adds as Denki opens his mouth to argue. “- I will help you finish it or fix it before class tomorrow. Okay?”
“Hypocrite.” Hitoshi raises a brow at him. “I know damn well that you don’t sleep either.”
“I’m better than I used to be.” He admits, a bit shyly at that. “But just because I do it, doesn’t mean I’m gonna let you do the same shit. Now go to bed.”
Denki scoffs, playfully rolling his eyes to add to the dramatics. “Fine, dad. I’m going to sleep.”
And just to play along, Hitoshi pats Denki on the head, telling him “goodnight” before heading back to his room across the hall.
As the door shuts, he leans back against the wood and looks down at the folder in his hands.          “... You should be with someone that respects you, Kaminari, not someone who’s gonna make you question if what you said or did was wrong or make you feel like shit for something you can’t help.”
         “Like who?”
         Me.
A sigh leaves him. Hitoshi sets the folder down on the corner of his desk before jumping into bed. I’m not dealing with this.

A Dragon's Greatest Treasure
sorry for disappearing! i got caught up in schoolwork and yeah :D i started writing this quite a while ago, maybe a couple months back? idk but the second paragraph was going to be followed by an in-depth description of all the parents seeing their kids start acting up, but im too sad about the current arc CUCURUCHO GIVE THE KIDS BACK YOU MONSTER!!!! anyway enjoy :)
There was no warning for what would happen. There was no announcement from the Federation, no appearance from the Binary Code or Cucurucho. It was just a normal day for the residents of Quesadilla Island. Until everyone’s kids started acting…strangely.
No one was prepared for dragon puberty.
In the group chat between all the parents, Cellbit messages them all to come to the adoption center, mentioning that he has information about the sudden changes to their children. A few moments later, the center is flooded with people. Everyone immediately begins crowding around Cellbit, concerned and anxious.
“Quiet, please, everyone! Silêncio, por favor.” The Brazilian begins shouting over the commotion. As the residents begin to settle, Cellbit finally begins speaking. “Okay, thank you. I know that all of our kids have started doing some weird stuff lately. Mostre a eles, Richas.”
On cue, Richarlyson jumps and hovers in mid-air for several seconds.
“Yeah! He accidentally jumped into a hole near the Copacabana, but he did not fall down right away.” Forever comments, Richarlyson nodding along.
“Really? Pomme hasn’t done that, but she has—”
Baghera is cut off when purple sparks begin appearing around Pomme, before she vanishes into thin air. Everyone but the French residents begin panicking, beginning to look around for the missing girl. She pops back into view a few feet away from where she disappeared, violet sparkles eventually fading away.
“She disappears like that.” Baghera lets out a tired sigh. “The first time it happened, we looked around for a few minutes, but she appeared right back where she disappeared.”
“When Baghera messaged us saying that she disappeared, I thought it was the Federation or the Code attacking.” Etoiles shakes his head, frowning. “I would have showed them my Code Breaker sword.”
“Oh, well, nothing that exciting has happened to Ramón. He’s just been really hyper, which isn’t like him at all. There he goes.”
Right as Fit finishes speaking, his son begins twitching and starts racing around the room with incredible speed. Eventually, everyone stops watching him once it becomes apparent he’s not going to stop for a while.
“Chayanne can apparently breathe fire now,” Phil laughs and gestures at his kid. In response, Chayanne lets out a little burst of flame, not enough to harm anyone, but it does cause those around him to jump away in surprise.
“Wait, that’s so cool! Leo, can you do that?” They shake their head, and Foolish’s shoulders drop slightly. “Oh, that’s fine. Well, Leo does this.”
Foolish pulls out a piece of gold from his backpack, but instead of just Leo, all of the kids lunge for the nugget immediately. The parents pull their respective child back, but not before the young dragons begin hissing and clawing at each other.
“Oh my gosh, Dapper, stop it! He started hissing at me too!” Bad says while wrangling with his son. Once they’re all under control, he turns to Cellbit. “So, they all do some things, but some of the kids have special quirks? What’s going on?”
“Pare, Richas! Okay. I was looking around for some kind of explanation, and when I came here, I found this book called ‘The Early Stages of a Dragon’. I will read it.” Cellbit clears his throat.
“During the early stages of a newly hatched dragon, they do not exhibit any traits of an adult dragon. However, when they reach the age of one, they begin to showcase these traits during a period called the first growth period. These traits include fire breathing, beginning to fly, small instances of dragon magic, bursts of random energy, a tendency to hoard valuables, and becoming physical through biting, scratching, and hissing. Young dragons will experience a week of showcasing these traits, before eventually regaining control and calming down.”
With that, Cellbit closes the book. “That’s it. There’s two other growth periods, but it says it won’t happen for a while, so we should be fine.”
“Does this mean all the eggs are going to start disappearing?”
“And breathing fire?”
The adults start muttering worriedly, and Cellbit raises a hand to quiet everyone again. “They may, or they may not. But we should all be safe and start carrying around water buckets.”
“And maybe don’t take out shiny things.” Bad turns to Foolish and sighs. “You’re going to have to start covering yourself up, Foolish, I’m sorry.”
“What? That’s crazy.”
Slowly, the tension in the room fades away as they all start cracking jokes. Some break off into groups, but never stray too far to keep an eye on the kids. The children play with each other, parents making sure to keep their kids’ aggression levels low and stepping in if one starts growling. It’s a peaceful kind of chaos. Life on the island may never be the same again, but at least they have each other.
Right?

Fic: It Takes One To Know One
Fandom: ReGenesis
Pairing: David Sandström x Mayko Tran (Dayko)
Rating: PG13
Spoilers: Takes place during season two. Canon-divergent.
Summary: Mayko notices something different about David one quiet afternoon in the lab.
Author’s note:  This is mainly a result of wanting to put David in glasses because a certain someone looks very good in them.  The most difficult part was writing the subject of their conversation since I am not naturally inclined to science, therefore I kept details rather vague.
Tumblr media
It Takes One To Know One
The atmosphere at NorBAC was remarkably calm. Granted: it was a summer afternoon, in the middle of the week, and while there was always plenty to occupy the staff who worked there, lazy days could still occur.
It was due to this that Mayko Tran refused to hurry through her current assignment.
Of course, that didn’t stop her boss, David Sandström, from loudly yelling out her name as a signal that he wanted her attention on something. Even after all the years they had known each other and being used to his mercurial temperament, she still jumped at the boom of his voice.
With a beleaguered sound, she left her computer running the program that she had been meddling around with and headed up the stairs to the second level, where his office was located.
It was never unusual to find the head scientist for the company seated behind his desk, reading, however there was something markedly different about him that prompted her to halt in her tracks.
She swallowed, her heart catapulting a few times over in her chest. There was no denying that her former professor was an incredibly handsome man. In fact – he tended to flaunt it with his constantly undone collars and jeans that seemed to hug in all the right areas.
What made David particularly irresistible on this day was the fact that he was wearing his glasses.
Memories came flooding in of their brief time together when she was his student. There had been such a forbidden thrill to sneaking out of her college dorm to meet up with him – first for coffee or research sessions, and then eventually for something far more carnal.
Unable to resist, Mayko stared, noting how the oval frames were perched symmetrically on the bridge of his nose. One would assume that the lenses would dull the brilliant blue shade of his eyes, but instead they seemed incredibly vibrant.
It certainly didn’t help matters that he had chosen an aquamarine button down, which he left open liberally at the throat so the hair that peeked over his clavicle was visible to her gaze.
                  God dammit Sandström.
She cleared her throat to announce her presence, prompting her employer to look up from whatever published paper had consumed his attention. “You bellowed?”
“Hey,” he placed the file he was perusing to the side and stood up, slipping his hands into his pockets, and adopting a casual stance. “I wanted to get your eyes on something I thought was, well…really fucking weird,” his naturally deep tone tended to jump down an octave when he was perplexed.
She crossed her arms over her chest and quirked a brow. “That’s your professional opinion? That something is weird?”
He rolled his eyes at the playful jab and grabbed a specific paper to clarify his point. “Take a look at these test results and see for yourself.”
“Fine,” she pursed her lips, still annoyed but unable to bring herself to fully be mad at him. She walked over to his side and snatched the data from his hands so she could survey it properly.
Her brow immediately furrowed. “What exactly am I looking at?”
“Owen’s blood.” He sidled closer. “And before you ask, yes I had Carlos and Bob do this test several times over with different samples.”
“But this is impossible,” she inhaled shakily. “David do you know what this could mean?” She turned her head at the same time that he did, her pulse spiraling due to both his proximity and the shock of the information.
Despite the severity of what it meant; it was obvious that he was holding back a proud smile. She couldn’t exactly blame him, as it wasn’t the first unique discovery that the lab had made in the past few years.
They stared at each other for a few moments, saying nothing, until the excitement finally got the better of him and he suddenly gathered her into a bear hug.
Mayko squealed in surprise at the abrupt behavior, but it was so easy to give in to the temptation of David’s warmth. It wasn’t long before she was reveling in it and breathing in deeply to fully appreciate the spice-laden scent of his cologne.
“I take that as soon as it goes through some extra quality checks that you’re going to publish this?”
“Absolutely, it means we can pinpoint addiction to genes and help people like Owen in the future,” he pulled back, framing her face between his hands gently. “It’ll do a lot of good in the future, May.”
Her features softened at the use of the nickname. “It’s been a while since you called me that; it’s also been a while since you wore these,” she tapped at the frame of his spectacles. “Did you forget to order more contacts again?”
“No…” his hands slid down to hold her by the shoulders, and there was guilt in his tone that suggested it was exactly what had happened.
She shook her head in amusement. “You’re a horrible liar. Thing is, though, I always thought they suited you.”
“Oh?” now there was marked interest in his perceptive gaze, along with a hint of mischief. “Was that part of the attraction back in the day?”
“You’re well aware of how good-looking you are, David Sandström.” She admonished, her fingers twisting into his shirt sleeves since he was making no move to let her go, and frankly she wasn’t about to let him if he did. “Don’t play coy with me.”
“I’m not, but it’s been ages since we flirted, and I didn’t want to assume –
She cut him off by dragging him forward, her mouth meeting his.
While she had startled him, it was quickly made evident that he felt the same way as she did, his arms circling securely around her as the embrace deepened.
Delighted by how eagerly he began to respond, she nipped and teased at his lips, tracing invitingly with her tongue until he accepted, and she was allowed to delve in and explore.
In a way: it was as if no time had passed. Kissing David felt as natural as it had in the days when she was his fling, but there was the added benefit of it being right this time around. There was no reason to lament or worry about the future – it was bright and open and becoming clearer by the minute that he wished her to be part of his.
He was the first to part for air, a dazzling grin blossoming over his striking features. “Does this mean that when I invite you to my place tonight for a private dinner, you’ll accept?”
                  “You’re incorrigible. But yes, it’s a date.”
His reply was to kiss her again, more passionately than before, and she gladly returned the much-appreciated affection.

Note
awww poor Yoichi :(
Hmm, do you have any immortal headcanons?
I felt so sorry for him the whole time I was writing that AU. But yes, I do have some immortal OFA users headcanons.
Note: This time, an immortality quirk got mixed in with stockpile, so the users all had to fake their deaths. The headcanons go from there.
Yoichi had fun writing the books he always wanted to write, but under a pseudonym of course. His brother hates his books of course and vows to hunt down the author. (Yoichi does change pseudonyms and stuff every few years)
Also, once every few years, Yoichi will get HOOKED on some trend. It lasts about twice as long as it takes for the trend to die down.
Second married Yoichi and while he wanted to just steal what they needed; Yoichi convinced him to get money in a more ethical way. So, he became a mechanic. The only bad thing is they have to move every few years as they look the same age they were when they passed on OFA. Like the vampires in Twilight.
I headcanon Third as aro/ace, so this is a duoholders universe.
Also, Third becomes a therapist. He figured he would be qualified after so many years being the therapist friend. And he is good at it, but he also runs into the Twilight issue. Even so, the 3 are never far apart from each other. Third does have his own place, but he's always there if the other two need anything and vice versa.
(I have a weird version of trioholders where, while the first two holders are romantically involved, their friendship with Third runs so deep, that if he died, they would be destroyed. Same with Yoichi and Second. They all need and understand each other in a way so deeply, it goes beyond any normal intimacy. Like, platonic soulmates I guess is the best word for that.)
Hikage lives in the woods. After 18 years of being chased around, he decided to fake his death and give OFA to Banjo. So, now he lives with the forest creatures in peace. Third still drags him out for the occasional family dinner though.
Banjo uses his extra immortal time to become talented at, not just normal hobbies, but really weird stuff like peeling a banana with his feet like a monkey. In addition to bothering Hikage, he decided to try his hand at a childhood dream and become a cowboy. That didn't work out, so he travels the world instead.
My headcanon for En is that he had 5 siblings, so immortality would give him a lot of grieving to do. However, I also headcanon him as a lover of reptiles and technology, so he used his immortal time to get acquainted with all the new tech coming out each year and finally get a pet chameleon. He also got a degree in Graphic Art. However, he chooses to make his money by doing commissions.
Nana did give away her son after her husband died, but only until she faked her death. Then she got him back, so Kotaro doesn't end up being as bad, but there's definitely still some tension between them as she didn't tell him about her plan. She hides away, with Gran Torino helping her try to raise Kotaro as normally as possible. Meaning his last name does end up changed because Torino adopts him, but he co-parents with Nana. It's complicated. At least Hana and Tenko are happy children with grandparents who spoil them and a better dad. Nobody wants to be on the bad side of both Nana and Gran Torino.
Toshinori did not know about the immortality thing. Nana forgot to tell him, and he just thought his master had really good genes. So, he has the same knowledge in canon. In fact, his life is pretty much like canon, as they figured it was best that he goes to America for a bit to keep AFO away from Nana's hiding place. He also gets into the same fight with AFO, but sustains the same damage. You see, the immortality quirk doesn't keep them from getting hurt, it just keeps them from dying.
Oh yeah, remember the family dinners Hikage gets dragged to? Those are between every OFA user. Toshinori just thinks they're historians who love to joke around. He has to believe it at this point. At least they only happen once a year, unless there's an emergency, like a new user or a faked death. Or, AFO dying (is he dead?)
Then Toshinori brings Izuku to OFA family dinner. Cue the awing over the new user (who looks oddly familiar). There was some worry over how Izuku would adjust to the quirk, but they all assumed All Might had it figured out. That man was taught by someone who beat the crap out of him daily. All Might did not have it figured out.
(After the AFO fight, the other users convinced All Might to get a hobby or something, so he decided to try and get the credentials to become a teacher, because he always loved children. The credits to become a kindergarten teacher that is, so the jump to high school is still going to take some adjustment. Not to mention training a middle school boy to handle a quirk you gave them. I don't think there's a book on that.)
After the entrance exams, out of worry for their new user, all the vestiges move to the Musutafu area around UA to help with Izuku's training. The users get along great with Inko (who was told about OFA.) And Yoichi's brother and Inko's husband sure have a lot of similarities. What a coincidence...
From here they get upto all sorts of school-themed hijinks, but I'll let you imagine them. (The eventual meeting with Aizawa is always a fun one to imagine)
Uh... this did not turn out how I thought it would. It was supposed to be random headcanons and not a story outline. I did keep some stuff vague on purpose. Anyway, I hope you liked it :)

reminiscing
(wow some “official” writing this is surprising)
wip: main family
character(s): nazam “naz” & anzu takuma (mentions of yarrah, mashiro, and mai)
tw(s): deadname mention, eating disorder, suicidal thoughts/ideation, body dysmorphia
a short walk through memory lane from naz’s perspective of life before he and anzu got together. there is a happy ending here we promise 😭💙
general to know: anzu was adopted by red and tsubame takuma when he was in high school from his abusive/neglectful parents—making mai and mashiro his adopted siblings. the story begins when anzu is still with his family and time skips around throughout he and naz’s life.
(also this is in 2nd person! naz is the narrator ‘you’ refers to anzu :3)
We first met in elementary school. First grade.
My older sister dropped me off. You came by yourself.
Both of us sat at the back of the classroom.
During recess you didn’t talk to anyone. You stayed by yourself in the sandbox and I stayed by myself in the classroom, with my book. I didn’t focus on it. I focused on watching you drag your shovel through the sand and stare longingly after the other children playing. You put your head down. So did I.
I think that was where it started.
People left me alone because I was quiet. I was weird. I always scored high on math tests and read computer textbooks I stole from my sister when we weren’t working on class projects. I stared the teacher down until she moved on from asking me to read aloud. She tried asking my parents about the books I read, and my father insisted I didn’t know how to read, it was her job to teach me. She asked me to read a sentence. I didn’t say a word. My father took it as proof. She seemed disappointed in me.
People bothered you because you were quiet. You came to school sometimes with bruises, and created your own through many fights on the playground. The teacher tried to call your parents in, and sometimes I would stall going home to see if they’d show up.
They didn’t.
The first time we spoke was a group project in 5th grade. I’d been watching you for a few years, but I was too shy to talk to you. You didn’t seem like you wanted to be bothered with the project anyway. I resigned myself to doing all the work in your stead, if it meant the teacher would stop pulling you aside to talk about ‘your grades.’ But you looked at me, with a look I’d never really seen before.
“What’s your name?” You asked. I hesitated. “... Naz… ara… Nazara.” I hated my name. “Nazara.” You repeated. I loved it. “Anzu. You ever go by Naz?”
I hadn’t, until you asked. And then that was the only thing I ever let anyone call me.
After the project we didn’t interact much. When I came into class, you’d give me a small quirk of your lips I suspected was a smile, but you always kept your head down and in response so did I. I didn’t smile much— I still don’t— but I always tried to make eye contact when I saw you come in late. You got into more fights, I read more computer books, and moved my interest towards differential equations and physics theorems, all books I stole from Yarrah. There wasn’t really any reason I should’ve understood it, but I did. I hid the books from our teachers. Once, you hid one for me. One of your usual offenders walked by and pushed my book into the middle of the floor during quiet time. I knew it was on purpose. You were getting stronger, he needed others to pick on. It was testing the waters. To see how weak I was. The thump of it on the floor was deafening. Everyone turned to look. Our teacher came over, and frozen, I stared at her. You saw my panic. You kicked the book under the bookshelf and hid it from view.
“What’s going on?” She asked. I said nothing. You said nothing. The bully said nothing. She clicked her tongue, and walked away.
You got into a fight with that bully at recess. I wish I would’ve stepped up to wipe your bloody nose.
💙💙💙💙
Middle school is when things started to change. Not between us. But for me.
We moved that summer to a town a few miles over. I never got to say goodbye. But the thought of never seeing you again made me throw up everything I ate. I did it in secret. No one knew. Yarrah caught me once, but I told her I just wasn’t feeling good. She told me to get more sun. I said I would. But the whole summer I spent glued to our family computer. I used my father’s card to buy myself spare parts, and he never noticed. I finished my first home-built PC by the time the first week of my new school shouldve been.
But turns out my parents never enrolled me. They were out of the country, and I guess they forgot. I took it upon myself to enroll myself at our old neighborhood middle school. Where I thought you would go. It was a walk to get there. Six and a half miles. I woke up at 4am every morning to get there. I walked alone. I didn’t eat. My reward was seeing you that first day I finally came to school, sitting at the back of the classroom, with your hood up and phone in hand. The tight feeling in my chest finally subsided.
“Naz,” You greeted me when I sat in the back desk next to you. “I didn’t know you had this class.”
“My parents enrolled me late.” I whispered. You hummed, understanding.
At lunch I went to the library and took a nap. I dragged myself awake at the bell. This became my routine.
💙💙💙💙
I grew skinnier. My hair began to thin out. I started wearing a beanie to school, and big bulky sweaters to hide my thin arms. I hid out every gym, behind the bleachers so they couldn’t see me. But I got to see you. You were getting taller now, and your shoulders got more broad. There was a day in gym that you all played dodgeball, and seeing you throw, I thought about being in your arms.
I threw up again after class.
We had one group project together in seventh grade, and you greeted me every day when you came to class with a small nod. That was enough, I thought. I made it be. I didn’t feel like I deserved anything more— with how I looked, with how I felt. I hated Nazara more and more with every passing day. The worst of it came on field trip day.
To the aquarium. I forged my parents signature, and I was sure you forged yours too. I sat in the back of the bus, and I thought you would too. I was almost excited. I wasn’t expecting someone to cheerfully call, “Anzu!” when you stepped on the bus.
You looked just as surprised too.
The person who called had pink hair. Their skin was pretty and dark brown. They looked bright and full of life, and their energy was contagious. You couldn’t see anywhere else to sit. You dropped down next to them near the front of the bus.
I stayed alone in the back, fidgeting with the hem of my shirt.
I don’t remember passing out.
💙💙💙💙
“Nazara. Stop being difficult.” The social worker frowned at me. I stared back at him impassively. “If someone has been neglecting you at home, we need to know that.” I didn’t say anything. After my week long coma after passing out on the bus, the doctors had been trying desperately to get something out of me. They wouldn’t believe me if I told them I did it to myself. I didn’t want to be Nazara. I didn’t want to be anything.
The social worker knew he wasn’t getting through to me. He sighed, and stood up. “Please try to eat at least something today, Nazara.”
He left.
💙💙💙💙
I hope you would become good friends with Mashiro. I hoped you would be happier.
💙💙💙💙
“Your child has fucking anorexia, and all you can care about is your business trip!” I heard Yarrah yelling at my father over the phone. It was a few weeks after I was discharged from the hospital. They diagnosed me, enrolled me in therapy sessions, and had a social worker come by every week to see how I was doing. But the diagnosis didn’t help. It felt like things were better when I ignored it. When I walked six miles to school, when I saw you in class, when I pretended that the budding shapes on my chest and the thinness of my arms weren’t there.
I put my pillow over my face. I wanted to shut everything out.
💙💙💙💙
You came by once. Out of the blue. I don’t think you meant to.
It had been… three years at this point. I should’ve been in 10th grade, with you. My neighborhood was in the same zone as the local high school, I could’ve ridden the bus instead of walking all that way to you. I think it’d been a year since I’d really been outside. I stayed in my room, in my empty house. I took my medicine. I had zoom calls with my therapist. I read computer engineering books. I built PCs, then took them apart. I bought things on Amazon with my dad’s money. I talked on and off with Yarrah. I never answered the door. Ever. I tried once. After I was pulled out of middle school. The postman’s disgusted look was all I needed to never try again.
But I’m not sure what compelled me today.
Maybe I was excited about my package coming, a new motherboard for my latest build. Maybe, I was starting to gain weight again after learning about being transgender. Maybe, for once, I felt good.
Maybe it was fate.
I crossed the darkened hall, I opened the door. I came face to face with a bright, beaming, pink face.
“Hi! My name’s Mashiro Takuma! This is—”
“—Anzu.” You said. You looked awkward, but maybe fond. “We’re helping my sister look for her lost cat. She got out the other day.” Mashiro handed me a flyer, and I studied it carefully. MEDUSA it read in bold letters, with the picture of a sleek, tiny legged black cat. It had big green eyes, that stared up at me from the flyer innocently. “Have you seen her at all?”
“I don’t leave the house much.” I said, shrugging.
“Oh…” Mashiro’s energy wilted. I felt my face pull into a frown. “My sister gets around town a lot, though.” I tried to amend. “When she comes home from work, I’ll ask her.” His beam: restored. You smiled behind him, mouthing ‘thank you.’ I tried to smile back.
“Well, if she’s heard anything, you can contact me here.” Mashiro directed my eyes to the bottom of the flyer where a host of contact numbers were recorded. There was a Red Takuma, Tsubame Takuma, Mashiro Takuma and Anzu. No last name. I nodded slowly. I carefully tucked the flyer under my arm.
“All of her favorite foods and some tips on coaxing her inside are on the back, so if you see her, please, do your best!” Mashiro gave me a cheerful thumbs up, and I laughed. Softly. I couldn’t remember when the last time I laughed was.
“I’ll try.” I promised. And then with a wave, the two of you were off. I held the door open until I saw you all disappear around the bend of the next street, then slowly let the door fall shut. I stared down at the flyer from the safety of my room. I didn’t wait. I called Yarrah. Turns out she had seen the cat. She was friendly, and hiding behind the building she worked at. It was easy enough to take her in.
I didn’t go when she returned Medusa to you all. I was still too scared to face the world.
💙💙💙💙
May. You and Mashiro should be graduating now.
I stared out of the window of Yarrah’s apartment, my head pillowed in far too many cushions. The surgery went well. I was discharged yesterday. I looked down at the bandages and gauze that protected my vulnerably flat chest. Even if everything was sore, and a bit tight, my chest felt light, physically and metaphorically.
“Naz!” Yarrah burst into the room, bringing something warm and good smelling with her. Soup, probably. Maybe curry. She rested it down in front of me, ruffling my hair. “Make sure you finish at least half.”
“I’ll try.” I meant it. “Once this heals up, we’re gonna take you to get your name change, okay?”
“Thank you Ra. … I mean it.”
“I’m your sister.” She shrugged. “It’s what I do.” We already went over the argument a million times that she didn’t have to, I could see the flames in her eyes, ready to pounce if I tried it. I ceded, bowing my head. “Thank you.” I said instead, quietly. She left only a few minutes after. Running down to the store, I think. I closed my eyes. I dreamed of you.
💙💙💙💙
I stopped by a grocery store, just to grab something quick. I had a long stretch of contract requirements I needed to get on tonight, or my boss would have my ass. But I was slowly learning to fuel myself while I did it.
I wasn’t expecting to see you there.
You’d grown. So much. You were two or three heads taller than me, more filled out than before. The hoodie you wore fit snug around your arms, your jeans were tight and fit well. Your eyes were bright; brighter than I ever remembered seeing them when we were young. A pair of blue beats rested around your neck and you had a sleek phone pressed against your ear.
“— tell Mai I’m almost done getting the ingredients.” You were saying. “I can’t find the red velvet cake they want.” I glanced at my basket. The last slice of red velvet cake stared up at me.
Talk to them. My brain said.
I can’t.
“Shiro, don’t you start whining too!” You laughed. That was the first time I really heard your laugh up close and my heart burst.
“Alright, I’ll see you soon. Ja!” You ended the call just as I turned on my heel, leaving the cake next to your basket. Even if that was all I could do… it was enough. It would be enough.
“Oh, hey, you don’t have to do that.” I felt a hand rest on my shoulder; with nails painted black and silver rings adorning it’s long fingers. My heart jackhammered against my chest.
“It’s fine.” I cleared my throat. “I probably wouldn’t finish it anyway.” I racked my brain from what I remembered. “And that’s Mai’s favorite, right?”
“Yeah, but how did you…”
I glanced at you over my shoulder and your words died in your throat.
I smiled. “Don’t worry about it.”
“Naz?”
My heart nearly stopped. I stared at you, wide-eyed. I never… never thought…
Your face lit up in a grin.
“Is that you? Wow, it’s been awhile. How have you been?”
“I… I’ve been…” I searched for words, still trying to shake off my shock. I angled my body to face you completely.
“I’ve been okay— better, than before I guess.” I chuckled, dryly. “You look good though, Anzu.” My tongue felt too big for my mouth. When was the last time I talked this much? To my therapist maybe. “I feel good.” Your voice went soft, warm. My chest bloomed. “I’m so glad.” I said back.
A silence drifted over us, an inevitable one. We never spoke much when we were young, and then I vanished. I wasn’t supposing there was much left to talk about. “I hope they enjoy the cake—“
“Can we meet up sometime?” You said, fast. Your expression was almost panicked, as though you were afraid of something. Of me saying no? Never to you. Ever.
“Sure,” I tried for flippant, but my voice was too fond. “But um.” I gestured vaguely towards myself. “It’s Nazam. Now. Um.” My voice got caught in my throat. I cleared it. “Not Nazara.” I wasn’t sure if you’d catch my meaning. You did. You smiled in relief.
“Nazam.” You repeated. You took my hands in yours. “Nazam. It suits you” I ducked my head, feeling my cheeks begin to flush. I coughed softly. “W-When did you want to meet?”
💙💙💙💙
I traced my fingers across the scatter of tattoos on your arms. The dawn had barely begun to peak over the horizon, and everything in our house was still covered in boxes. The only thing we’d bothered to unpack was maybe a quarter of our room, the bed at the very least so we could have somewhere to sleep. You murmured something, then turned towards me, pulling me tight against your chest.
“You up?” You murmured.
“Unfortunately.” I whispered back. You pressed your lips soft against my head.
“Go back to sleep, clover. We can unpack your precious gadgets tomorrow.”
“I guess I can survive until then.” I chuckled, and your soft, sleep-laden laugh rumbled against my cheek. I traced my fingers over your lips.
“I love you, Anz.” Soft. Even with your eyes closed, you smiled. “I love you too, Naz.”
The hole in my ribs finally closed. I buried into you and let your breathing soothe me back to sleep.

my take on the end of mha
this was a rant i did on discord that i'm reposting here. it'll probably be too long so uhhh. reblogs i guess. :3
i think that a lot of what 430 suffers from is classic shonen jump problems, honestly. horikoshi developed such a rich cast of characters that 5 chapters after the end of the war was never going to be enough to give them all satisfying conclusions, which sucks but isn't really his fault given what little i know of serialization (people were saying that 5 chapters is already quite long for a sj epilogue, so like… yeah)
the final chapter holds up pretty well as to what i was expecting, honestly. a timeskip had to happen given that so many of the themes of mha revolve around the idea of societal change, and you can't show that in a week after the end of the war. i think that the conclusion that the students got largely makes sense — i wish that dabi's death had been a little bit more conclusive, but i thought that his wrap-up was pretty good; he spent the rest of his days after the war being watched over by his family, especially endeavor, so he succeeded in his goal of getting endeavor to watch him. shouto may not have saved him physically, but frankly that was never a possibility given how dabi treated his own body throughout the series. he certainly saved him mentally, and i think that's kinda present throughout the other main villain wrap-ups
i think that the ochako vs toga arc was the one that was best concluded; toga could've lived, but she made the decision to reverse the role she'd been playing and give up her own blood to the girl she loved so ochako could live, instead of taking the blood of someone else. it wasn't a decision that ochako made for her (like it was with dabi vs shouto & midoriya vs shigaraki), instead toga's death IS proof that ochako DID save her mentally, and toga viewed her own death as freedom in a way.
^^ and then post-timeskip, we see ochako having taken that sacrifice and turning it into something good, with her quirk counseling program. out of all the deaths, toga's made the most sense to me, especially given that it wasn't swept under the rug narratively. the actions that ochako is making as an adult prove that toga's death didn't go in vain, and that ochako has adopted toga's wish of making the world an easier place to live in.
then there's midoriya vs shigaraki, which. i understand the narrative decisions behind it, considering they'd been setting up the idea that sometimes you have to kill people to save them (gran torino said that verbatim to midoriya) for a WHILE, but it still felt unsatisfactory to me. the general premise was that while shigaraki tomura was too far gone to save, shimura tenko wasn't, and midoriya saved/freed him? it was all kinda jumbled to me, though. not to mention the fact that there was this whole realization that all for one kidnapped shiggy, forced an altered quirk onto him, and then raised him, but shigaraki never actually learned that iirc? it was weird & i think that while shigaraki dying isn't an issue in itself, the way that the story handled it was. midoriya's only real reflection on it is one wordless panel where we see shigaraki's ghost? which is also very open-ended as like. we don't know if that's midoriya's imagination, or if shigaraki became a vestige in one for all, or what?
i have a whole TIRADE of thoughts on how poorly midoriya was handled as his own character later on, especially considering he's supposed to be narrating the series. there's a decent few bits of dialogue that feel robotic, as if his character became more of a voice for horikoshi to tell things to the readers instead of a character within the story. i've had problems for a while with how little introspection we get from midoriya, honestly, and how much guesswork we have to do as to what he's thinking / feeling / whatever considering he's not only the main character but also LITERALLY NARRATING the story

“The Explanation”
(this is a side story to “part 3” of my “Me and the LOV” series)⚠️ warning little mention of killing⚠️
After treating everyone’s injuries, I put down the aid kit back underneath the sink in the kitchen, and finish cleaning things up before Serving up a bowl of the goulash I made, and joined the other. I took a seat next to Shigaraki even though I wasn’t that surprised about how attractive he actually was. But then again, I met a lot of villains in my past, whom were actually attractive under their masks, (except for muscular. He gives me “Gaston” vibes, and I don’t like that😰)
As we were eating Shigaraki was asking me basic questions like when’s my birthday?, what’s my zodiac sign?, What my favorite color is?, Just the small things, then, of course, both Toga and Twice Commented about how good the food was, and also Compress asked about my parents? after I mentioned to Toga and Twice about learning the cooking skills from my father and brother.
Then I tell the others about my family history, “True, my mother’s quirk is a ‘Supernatural hunter’ her abilities allow her to track down different supernatural entities, like she figures out what causing the portal to open between our world and the supernatural, and then closes that connection. And my dad well…… he’s a wrestler with a beast-like quirk, and believe it or not those two were actually enemies to lovers because they were both working for a different villain groups at the time.” I giggled at the last part. “It does sound like it kind of puts the Romeo and Juliet story to shame doesn’t it?” Compress joked, I couldn’t help but let out a laugh after his comment.
“oh, trust me it’s more twisted than that.” I added. I took a deep breath as a frown appears on my face as I continue.
“But sometime after they left, and wanted to put that part of their villainess past behind them They got married a few months later and they actually bought an abandoned, rundown, five star hotel, some miles outside of town and after fixing the place up, my mom found out she couldn’t have children of her own so my folks decided to adopt, then that’s when things start to get weird for my mom because a couple of days after they were having a discussion about it. My mother’s quirk started going off and she had a feeling that something was off? so they went to an orphanage that somehow caught on fire, they went in and They helped out with the evacuating people out the building they decided to adopt all of the children from that orphanage but that all happened some years ago?” I finished.
Of course, as I was telling the story, we finished dinner, and both Shigaraki and Spinner decided they both wanted to playing a video game as the others were doing their own things. But then, after I was finished telling the story Shigaraki pause their game, and turned to me because I was sitting on the couch behind them and watch as they played their game. “Did your folks find it odd, that the strange events happened right after they were having a conversation what they were talking about?” he said, I gave him a firm nod.
“It still gives my mom shivers to this day like one minute they were just talking about it, and then the next my mother’s quirk bizarre, then suddenly they adopt all the children from an orphanage that caught on fire? Major coincidence or not My parents still feel uneased About the whole thing and it’s still a big mystery to them? But all of that changed after I was adopted a year later.” Now that fully got his attention as. Shigaraki sat his game, controller down and turned his full body away from the game and now focused on me? Same thing with Spinner too after mentioning it. And that’s when I told them about MY origin?
“I was born into a cult that would sacrifice their own kind to some religious deitie but then, when quirks started developing they sacrifice those with quirks, but since they didn’t know if we get our quirk After we’re born? Or develop as we get ol….” I was interrupted by someone gasping I look around the room and noticed everybody staring at me with horrified expressions as a family blood run cold and an unsettling chill in the air. “you don’t think…..” Spinner said. I nodded, swallowing hard as I looking down at my clanged hands on my lap. “they started to killing infants, right after they’re born?.” Dabi spokes this time as his eyes go wide, without saying another word, I nodded again.
I take a deep breath, trying to find my own words again,
“I was supposed to be on the chopping block until both my parents and my older sister Delilah and my older brother Belix showed up and stopped it, my dad took down one of the men trying to offer me, while Belix rushed over and picked me up in his arms of course he was 15 at the time and Delilah was 14 they’re both the oldest out of the rest of me and my 54 siblings Delilah has a ‘witches’ quirk. And my brother Belix has a gargoyle based-quirk so they are quirk abilities allow them to be immortal and live longer than normal humans. And some of my other older siblings have ‘supernatural beast’ quirks as well, after I was rescued, most of the cult, members were arrested and took into custody but there were some that got away.” I said as i shrugged.
As I looked up at the others, there was an unsettling chill in the air as they all looked at me with ‘what the fuck’ looks on their face as I finished telling them my story. ”What The Heck Y/n!” Twice shouted, “You almost died and now you’re acting like it was nothing?!” he added, Compress and Toga try to calm him down, I also mention other things to them a few more hours go by and it was already starting to get late and everybody starts to get ready for bed and I do the same, After changing into my pajamas And climbed into bed, staring up at the ceiling, Hoping that tomorrow would be a better day?.
