#i think i’ll be offline for the weekend. maybe i’ll queue a few things but that’s about it#yes i listened to the song out of curiosity and i think it’s really good. i also empathise with what she went through#no that does not excuse the fact she’s still dating a racist and ignoring the minorities she claimed to love#feeding us so that we shut up while she is making profit out of it at the same time. both can coexist.#but it’s really... wild to me how manipulable this fandom is and how it radically changes its mind in a matter of seconds#from “she’s crossed the line this time. i’m so hurt and disgusted i cannot excuse what she’s doing anymore” to “OMG babygirl is suffering!!#she must be protected at all costs JOE IS THE ONE TO BLAME HERE!!!!” which fair enough it’s what she wanted#but it’s wild and it feels like a reality tv show and i don’t trust that at all. so i’d rather stay out of it. have fun <3#pt

Here comes “The Old Guard”. Marinelli goes to Hollywood, alongside Charlize Theron.
“Alone, fragile and immortal.”
A story of love, friendship and compassion with an ancient warrior and a young African American, who has just discovered she is immortal, as protagonists. Because the world needs women and courage knows no gender differences. 20 years after “Love & Basketball” and after “The Secret Life of Bees” and “Beyond the Lights - Find Your Voice”, Gina Prince-Bythewood comes to the action movie with very clear ideas on how to reinvent the rules. We talked to her over the phone while she was in Los Angeles during the lockdown.
A superhero movie that doesn't look like a superhero movie. Is that why you decided to make it?
Absolutely yes, when I read the script I realized that despite the fantastic genre there was a very realistic background. These characters are real and it's easy for the audience to relate to them despite being immortal. They fight for goals and reasons that people understand. The more realistic the film, the more viewers can reflect themselves in the protagonists.
In fact, the most fascinating aspect of the characters is their vulnerability: they are immortal, but up to a certain point, which is a paradox. They too have to deal with the sense of the end.
There is a possibility that they may die, that their immortality is interrupted, that they still suffer from their wounds, and this brings them closer to us. The public still feels sorry for them when they see them in danger.
Immortals suffer, and not just physically.
Many think that being able to live forever would be extraordinary, but no one asks what this really means. Immortality has consequences: it can be a gift, but it can also be a curse.
And we don’t know why immortality fell to them.
The thing I loved about the graphic novel and the script is the fact that there is no explanation. Not only do we not know it, but neither do the protagonists. But it is a trilogy and therefore there is still a lot to tell.
Could you offer your contribution to the script?
It was a great script, with great roles based on the graphic novel so I stayed very true to the text. With the author, Greg Rucka, we wanted to reflect on the fear of taking someone's life, the one that sometimes overwhelms soldiers in war, whose psychology is often neglected. Hollywood films have never been very concerned with this aspect, as if killing had no consequences. The protagonists are forced to kill, but if someone has been doing it for centuries, for others it’s the first time.
What struck you about Luca Marinelli?
I could talk about him for days, I love him, he's the actor that all directors dream of having on set. He loved the character and gave him life in a very credible way. Between him and Marwan Kenzari is born a great complicity, necessary between two people who have been together for centuries. Luca's eyes are full of soul, his Nicky is the heart of the group, he’s the most sensitive character of all of them.
Charlize Theron, who is also one of the producers, has an increasingly and more torn body.
Charlize has already played roles like this one, she is very credible in the genre of action and has been helpful to who had never faced it before. From her, who really worked hard, others learned to do the same. She is very credible in the role of a woman who lived for thousands of years.
Matthias Schoenaerts, on the other hand, has an insidious role.
He embodies the tragedy of immortality, loneliness, betrayal. He is the actor who most resembles his character in the graphic novel. He wanted to make the film at all costs because he had never measured himself with the action genre and felt he had things to express.
The film underlines how today it’s no longer possible to hide, images can capture you at any time.
In a scene near the end, when the immortals look at photos and articles about them, they truly become aware for the first time of everything they have done to protect humanity. They understand the power of images from which they continually try to escape in order to hide their identity.
And then we talk about science and profit.
In the film, people from different places join forces to protect the world, a need even more relevant today. Yet it is increasingly evident that profit matters more than human lives.
Do you think the film industry is becoming more inclusive with women?
Things are finally changing and I am grateful that, despite having no other action films on my resume, I have been entrusted with The Old Guard. I am grateful for the trust they have placed in me. It should be taken for granted by now that women are capable of coping with any film genre and I think how much pressure from the industry Patty Jenkins, who directed Wonder Woman to success and opening the door for many of us, went through. But the door must be wide open because there are still few who have such opportunities.
In your opinion, have opportunities grown with the arrival of platforms like Netflix?
Netflix wasn't afraid to trust a series of directors. Which studio would have produced Roma or Irishman? He has the courage to make films that Hollywood deems too risky.
The Golden boy
“Luca Marinelli, as we have never seen him before: in his Hollywood debut, he becomes an immortal and fights with Charlize Theron to save the world.”
Just before the lockdown he was one of the jury members of the 70th Berlinale in the city where he has lived for years - and he swears he had so much fun watching three films a day. The audience awaits him in theatre in the role of Diabolik, in the film directed by Manetti Bros., but on July 10th he arrives on Netflix with The Old Guard, the action movie that sees him alongside Charlize Theron. And where he plays the Italian Nicolo, Nicky for the group of immortals he belongs to. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and based on the graphic novel by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández, the film offers Luca Marinelli an insidious superpower, an endless love and a new opportunity to demonstrate his talent as a true champion. We reached him on the phone and he, less shy than usual, told us how he became a secular "superhero".
How did you get to the project?
I auditioned in London, where I later returned and met the director. Lastly, there was a final meeting between me and Marwan Kenzari. We made a scene together and then they announced to me, "We'd love for you to be Nicky."
What struck you about this character?
The story fascinated me because it tells of immortals as if they were the damned. Nicky and Joe live this condition as a gift because they are linked by a wonderful love story and they are not alone. They met in an absurd and paradoxical situation, during the Crusades, ready to kill themselves. They did it a hundred times and then they looked at each other and fell in love. But others suffer from it, like Andy and Booker. In a beautiful scene, Booker, played by Matthias Schoenaerts, explains what happens to them: they see the people they love die and blame them because they cannot prevent it. And they are tired of watching the world repeat itself following the same dynamics. They fight to save people, but everything seems to go on the same way. Only in the end will they discover what they have done and what they are doing.
How did it go with Charlize Theron?
Well, it was wonderful! As I read the script I said to myself: am I really going to make a film with Charlize Theron? And hug as well! I was very excited and intimidated already while reading. She is an extraordinary actress. In the scene where we are at the table and everyone tells Nile something about us, Andy tells her what we are and it was nice to see her running and venturing into the midst of emotions and thoughts. Sometimes I got distracted and didn't say my line. But Charlyze is also a crazy athlete. You have to be really athletes, otherwise you don't survive at the end of the day. And Charlize is an athlete of the body and the heart.
What about her athletic training?
We got together a month before shooting to start working with the stunts. I had to get some athleticism back: when I arrived and they looked at me I think they were a little worried. We had to become familiar with martial arts and then we switched from the sword to other weapons and to hand-to-hand combat. We prepared scene by scene, including the choreographies, different for each fight, and each of us had his own rubber reproduction of the sword. It was an unforgettable training.
The immortals come from different places in the world. How much of Italy is there in Nicky?
Apart from the pronunciation? They still laugh at some of the things I said. Marwan and Matthias, but also Charlize, speak Italian at different levels and every now and then I enjoyed shooting a few sentences to which they could answer me.
Did you offer your character something that wasn't in the script?
Well, being in such a group, shy as I am ... I tried. I have always focused on the bond between Nicky, Joe and the other members of the group, because I am interested in discovering what is inside a character, his feelings, how he looks at the world, what excites him. Nicky has lived for centuries, but still greets the people he meets in the desert with a smile, inside him there is the flame of an infinite good. Each character has a different sensitivity and their own armor. Nicky is perhaps the least armored one.
The challenge was also to make people believe in a love story that has lasted for centuries.
Marwan recites a beautiful monologue in which he talks about their love story. I hope that each of us, in their short life, can say the same thing about the person they love.
You’ve already had superpowers in “They Call Me Jeeg”. What is your relationship with this genre?
I like it very much and I think that both films, very different from each other, have a very interesting soul. In Jeeg Robot, Enzo Ceccotti uses his superpowers to help others, taking on a social responsibility. In The Old Guard the protagonists put themselves at the service of others, even if no one has asked them to. “This is what we do,” they repeat over and over to each other. What they do is save people, participate in what they think is right.
How do you think they would react to protests on American streets and around the world?
I don't feel like playing games, mixing reality and fiction on a terribly real subject like this. I think that in reality, outside of any cinematic fiction, it’s fundamental to fight for equality, within society, but also within ourselves. To go back to our film, if in a microscopic way we manage to carry a message in that direction, I would be very happy.
What director was Gina Prince-Bythewood?
She is always ready to listen, and I am someone who asks a lot of questions even at inappropriate times. She always had great patience and was very attentive to the emotional side of the film, to the interiority and beauty of the characters.

We gotta talk about YOU
See what I did there?
I just watched the thing and now I gotta have some words.
Like, first of all, season 1 traumatized me. I legit finished it at night and went to bed just thinking of how awful the world is and just hating everyone.
And how could I not? But I hated one the most.
Joe Goldberg is one crazy fucker. Penn is an amazing bae always, but Joe is a crazy stalker who needs to be stopped. I don’t care about his childhood trauma, I just care about Beck. Beck was imperfect, SURE, we all are, hello! But nothing will ever justify what was done to her. Ever. The fact that she was not what Joe wanted her to be... like, I can’t even count all the ways in which I can explain why that train of thought is fucking awful and invalid.
Paco, for example, is a little someone Joe could control. Sure, Paco needed help and was lovely, but his interactions with Joe did not make Joe a better person. It was Joe feeding his brain with, “I’m good” thoughts. All clearly ridiculous thoughts for him to have, seeing as he was “doing good” for his own benefit to try to forget the murderer part.
Karen is another good being, I was just so fucking glad she got away before it was too late. Dr. Nicky... Oh, Stamos, I will never like you because ER but he was actually great in this role and was hella fucked in the end.
And then came season 2... And Los Angeles made, in retrospect, New York feel all the more like a character from season 1 because its absence was felt as everything changed so much with LA: not just the cinematography but the pace and just all the many new faces.
Oh, Love, what to say about you? After two minutes of Victoria’s BUILD interview, I decided that she must be protected at all cost. Love, though? Love is not to be protected. I mean, Victoria is super cute and she has a bright smile and you fall for her because you see her like Joe does: behind the money and privilege, she’s broken and carrying a terrible family. Of course then you find out that she let Forty think he had killed his abuser when she’d done it, and then, when you think she might have killed Candace thinking her to be the “crazy ex” trying to set Joe up, THEN, you see Love not caring about what Joe is confessing and it’s all a big mindfuck. Yet, it makes complete sense. Love was presented to us in a way that made her the perfect match for Joe, but the definition of that is different for us, the audience, and Joe. It was awesome TV, gotta say, and a repeat of Joe and Beck in that the idealization of women in Joe’s mind never ends well.
I loved Delilah. LOVED HER. And Love killed her. I was so furious, like I knew Delilah wasn’t gonna make it, cause OG Will had already somehow managed to (for now, at least). And then I sorta knew it hadn’t been Joe, but I just couldn’t figure out who the fuck had done it, like, Love killed Delilah, HOW DARE SHE? Leave Ellie all alone, after all the cooking and shit? And then Love’s pregnant? LIKE, WHAT? And Joe’s actually scared of her, as if he were an innocent bunny? And then goes on to stalk the neighbor? What a sicko!
You know the only time I ever felt iffy about Love was when I thought that they were gonna have her and Forty enact a Cruel Intentions sibling-rivarly because of Joe. That didn’t happen, not exactly, but it wasn’t that far either if you think about it. I legit thought Forty was gay and the character that he was gonna introduce as his partner was gonna be OG Will instead of Candace. And that he was gonna be interested in Will/Joe romantically... which, I mean, he kinda was, textually and subtextually. But Fincher, who did nothing wrong ever in his life (except for that time he didn’t answer the phone fast enough and then arrested Ellie), killed Forty, who did a lot of wrong but also figured shit out and then no one fucking believed him.
Every single person murdered/killed deserved better (except for Henderson, duh! And like, I feel that Peach was a Joe-in-the-making, but she wasn’t there yet), and if anyone ever goes, “sure, but...” I will fucking report you to the police or something. There’s no but here. These are terrible people doing terrible things. It makes for terrific TV, but they are not and cannot be justified EVER.
While the first season felt less grey (like Joe says, LOL and EW), this one made a better job at selling that Joe was trying to be a good person. The first episode was not fooling anyone, but we were exposed to the mind of a man saying he’s trying to be better and positioning Candace as a threat to his progress for the whole season, while also seeing Candace lying and manipulating to make her way back into Joe’s fake new life. She’s the bad girl narratively speaking, which is fascinating because she obviously isn’t bad at all. Yet, all the beats are there, so I had to keep realigning my thoughts so that I was rooting for her to succeed, in spite of what the show was telling me. For example, it was impossible not to think that Candace should‘ve done things differently, gone to the cops, or expose Joe’s crimes using the media, or-or-or. We are so immersed in the world that Joe painted for us that if we aren’t careful, we might end up rooting for Joe and blaming Candace for her own death.
I think Penn or someone said, in one of the many interviews I’ve seen, that women are punished, men are forgiven. Ain’t that the awful truth? People go ahead and try to justify it, ~see it from Joe’s POV, or get angry at him only when he rejected his ~true equal and not when he goes around killing innocent people... This is exactly why the first season was so disturbing to me. I felt so much despair. This is all happening, men are this awful and people go out of their way to hide and/or justify all the bad. It’s a huge deal, and I’m hoping that, beyond the entertainment aspect of it, this show will make people talk about the right and real things that it is trying to showcase which are happening all around.

Cinderella of Chicago Chapter 1: The Ball
His outfit was sheer genius. The wings could actually lift and wave, and fold back to their resting position smoothly and silently. They worked on servos he’d spent way too much for, but it was worth it. You couldn’t even see him toggle the switch that controlled them, because it fit perfectly within his palm. Brilliant.
Not only that, but the workmanship on the suit itself was perfect. His Baba had asked no questions, just taken the pictures he’d given her, drawn up a pattern, and sewed holy hell out of it. It fit like a glove and made him look pretty damn good, if he did say so himself. He’d had to make a few concessions here and there on fabric and trim, mostly because the real suit was undoubtedly butter-soft leather that cost about a million dollars a yard, but he’d done superbly there, too. Well worth the number of days off he’d spent haunting every fabric store in greater Chicago.
Which is why Brian Zvonecek could not be blamed for maniacally bouncing his foot and checking the clock every seven seconds as he sat ignoring the morning talk show on the common room TV, waiting for this shift at Firehouse 51 to end. When ChicagoCon started in approximately three hours, he planned to be there, and he planned to be the best Sumendi anyone had ever seen. Including, hopefully, Anthony Lang, the guy who actually played Sumendi in all three movies, and was going to be on a panel talking about the upcoming movie that would have all the Planetary Saviors in it. Brian couldn’t wait.
************
At this stage of her nursing career, not much bothered Meg Armstrong, but this was a bunch of shit. Literally, the largest amount of feces she’d ever seen, which had issued from a homeless woman who had come in to Chicago Med’s Emergency Room after not being able to “go boom-boom” (her phrase) for a week. Well, they’d solved that problem. And now, here was Meg, four years of college and fifty thousand dollars in student loans later, dealing with the aftermath of their success.
At least her shift was almost over. The minute she had Mrs. Carlsberg cleaned out and cleaned up, she could, at long last, catch the El to her friend Karen’s apartment where the girls were meeting to get ready for ChicagoCon. After all the planning and all the work to make it, Meg was dying to put on all the pieces of her Tabiti costume and hit Rosemont.
************
The hall was huge. Actually, if Brian was being honest with himself, it was a little overwhelming. Half of Chicago was here, and a good third of them were in costume. He’d get used to the crowd, and the more people in costume the better, because he knew he looked good. He’d already lost count of the number of people who’d asked for permission to take his picture, or to be in selfies with him. He graciously agreed every time, while his roommate Joe Cruz rolled his eyes and made annoyed faces. Well, Cruz could be getting this kind of attention if he’d chosen to dress up, but he’d absolutely refused. So there he was, wearing a T-shirt and jeans and absolutely invisible next to Brian.
“C’mon, Otis, we’re not gonna get a good place in line for the panel.”
Brian accepted yet another high five on his costume and joined Cruz for the short walk to join the throng in front of the doors to the main auditorium. The panel wasn’t for another hour at least, but if they didn’t get in line now, they’d have lousy seats. Brian wanted to be sure to get great pictures and – although he didn’t admit it to Cruz – he hoped someone on the panel would notice that he was looking crazy good as Sumendi.
For the next hour, Brian and Cruz stood cheek by jowl with an odiferous mass of Planetary Saviors fans, many in costume. There were a fair number of Sumendis, but none that could approach Brian’s costume, even without the real, working wings. Unfortunately, there weren’t many women in the vicinity of Brian and Cruz to make the wait more enjoyable. There were a few mediocre Tabitis and one group of all the female Planetary Saviors, but they were all too young to be interesting.
Being taller, Cruz could see further into the crowd. He mentioned a few particularly cool costumes, but Brian couldn’t see them. It would be easier to check out the costumes when they were released from the horde into the auditorium. For now, he was stuck among a mostly-male group of younger fans, all of whom smelled like they needed either a shower or a lesson in moderation when applying Axe body spray. He wished he was wearing his SCBA apparatus. It would’ve ruined the look of his costume, of course, but no one could really see it in this crush, anyway.
At last, the doors opened and Brian and Cruz were propelled into the auditorium by a suddenly frenzied mob, having all they could do to keep upright. But they had a plan. Cruz was pretty big, and could use his arms and elbows to basically swim through the crowd. All Brian had to do was stay tucked right behind him, and Cruz would get them to the front. Which he did with a minimum amount of elbowing teenagers and a very clever “accidental” de-helmeting of a Boba Fett.
***************
Meg and her friends were not as successful, mostly because they didn’t have a plan beyond “get great seats”, and they didn’t feel like waiting in a huge, jostling melee for the auditorium doors to open. Still, they got in for the panel and had seats. They counted that as success, especially since all five women were seated together. Karen was determined to get to ask Ken Terhune, who played Sumendi’s wicked brother, Adranos, a question. He was so hot, she was sure she would have an instant orgasm if he actually spoke to her, and she was going to do whatever it took to make that happen.
The first thing she’d done to get his attention was to come dressed as Afi, wife of Adranos. Another thing she’d done was to make sure that her boobs looked spectacular in her Afi costume. Not that much of her boobs were in her Afi costume, but that was kind of the point.
While they waited for the panel to start, the women looked around the auditorium, admiring all the costumes and looking for cute guys. Liz saw one cute guy, right down front, in a really great Sumendi costume. She elbowed Meg and pointed.
“Look over there! That guy’s Sumendi is almost as good as your Tabiti! You should totally get a picture with him,” Liz told Meg.
“Whoa! That is a good costume. He’s cute, too. But I’m not going down there. What would I say? ‘Hey, dude, I see we’re dressed as a couple, so let’s get our pictures taken together?’ I’d die of embarrassment.”
“Then I’ll say it. You look really good, and it doesn’t look like he has a Tabiti with him. Come on.”
“Not happening, Liz. Thanks, though. Hey, look over there. Is that dude supposed to be a zombie from The Walking Dead?”
“I don’t think so. I think he just needs to eat some vegetables or something.”
“Unfortunate.”
“Highly.”
*******************
“Cruz, Cruz… look at that Tabiti up there!”
“Whoa, dude, she’s checkin’ you out, too. You should go meet her.”
“I can’t go meet her – we gotta… protect these seats.”
“You’re such a weenie, Otis.”
“Are you really willing to give up these primo seats just to - Oh! They’re starting!”
**************
The panel was awesome. Nobody on the panel said anything about Brian’s outstanding costume, but he was sure they saw him. Both Brian and Cruz were hoping to get picked to ask their questions, which would have given Brian a perfect opportunity to show off his Sumendi wings, but that didn’t happen, either. Still, it was a great panel. Well worth the hassle of getting in and getting these seats.
After the panel, it was time to cruise the main exhibition hall. That was going to take some time and coordination, because Anthony Lang was going to be signing autographs and taking pictures at three O’clock, and Brian had pre-paid for his photo op. He was not going to miss out on that. Cruz had thought that the $75 price tag was too high, but that was ridiculous. How could you put a price on getting your picture taken with the real Sumendi?
***********
Meg and her friends needed a break after the excitement of the panel. They’d do the Exhibition Hall, but right now coffee was a must. Karen was bummed that she didn’t get to ask her question, and that Ken Terhune hadn’t commented on her Afi costume (or her boobs). But they all thought a little caffeine would fix her right up.
They’d been right, and for a while, they’d had a great time shopping the booths and checking out the costumes. But after lunch, Susan and Lita were getting a little tired of the Con. The others wouldn’t say it out loud, of course, until after they’d gone home, but Susan and Lita weren’t really “fans” so much as just there for the experience itself. Maybe Susan and Lita wouldn’t even understand that was an insult. But best not to say it out loud anyway.
“Come on, you guys, we’re only halfway done with the Hall! We’re never gonna see everything if we take another break,” Meg urged, pulling on Lita’s arm.
“We’re getting smoothies. We’ll meet you after. We know the pattern you’re following around the Hall, we’ll just find you.” And just like that, Susan and Lita ducked into the crowd and were gone, leaving Meg, Karen, and Liz (wearing a Sumendi T-shirt, which was closer to being in costume than her friends had thought they’d get) to shop the rest of the booths.
The next booth they came to sold nothing but hoodies – from traditional ones printed with pictures and logos from all sorts of fantasy franchises to ones with attachments on the hoods that made you look like your favorite character. They spent a long time looking through them all, especially trying to find one with Adranos’s crown in Karen’s size. They were ultimately successful, and she waited in line to pay more than Meg ever would have for it. Liz continued to hunt through every hoodie with a Dr. Who theme, afraid she would miss The One if she didn’t look at every single one to make sure she hadn’t missed a design.
Meg’s feet were starting to hurt in Tabiti’s signature stiletto-heeled red boots, so she took the opportunity to lean against one side of the booth so she could stand on one foot at a time, giving the other a rest.
“That is an outstanding costume,” a voice at her ear said.
Meg turned to face the cute guy in the really good Sumendi costume they had seen at the panel.
“Oh, hi,” she stammered, immediately embarrassed at the overzealous squeal in her voice. “Yours is great, too. I saw you, at the panel. It’s really… great.” Could I be more of an idiot?
“Thanks. Your headpiece is awesome. Isn’t that heavy?” He asked. They had to practically shout to be heard over the jostling, milling throng hemming them in. But it was worth it. Brian couldn’t believe his luck finding the Tabiti they’d seen at the panel, who was even cuter up close.
“It isn’t that bad,” Meg answered, self-consciously touching her headpiece and knocking a shower of glitter onto her shoulder. “It’s papier-mâché, mostly. So not that heavy. You can, you know, touch it. If you want.”
Brian touched Meg’s headpiece, knocking on it a little with his finger. “Wow. I’d swear it was metal, from a distance.” From a distance? Nice one, moron. She’s gonna punch you.
“Thanks. What did you use for the red streaks in your hair?”
“That? That’s natural.”
Meg laughed, but then began to cough as she inhaled a bit of spit down the wrong tube. Oh, for fuck’s sake. Kill me now. You, Aquaman over there, if you could just impale me with your trident, that would be great. He’s gonna think I have fucking tuberculosis.
The problem was that he had smiled. This Sumendi, who was pretty cute to begin with, and had made a very funny joke, had smiled after he said it. And his smile was… electrifying. He had gorgeous, white teeth and, with his dark hair and dark eyes, and the little moustache and soul patch he wore (which Meg usually hated), it was just… well, it was enough to make her choke on her own spit like the gargoyle she was.
He patted her on the back. “You gonna be OK? I’m a firefighter. If you need CPR, just say the word.”
Meg flapped her hands around, trying to signal that she would be OK, and desperately tried to control her cough. She could feel the tears smearing her mascara and knew for a fact her face was beet red. Yeah. Some Tabiti. She’s supposed to hold Sumendi spellbound with her charms, which I’m dead certain don’t involve hacking up a lung at his feet.
“I’m… I’m OK…” Meg choked. The taller guy behind Sumendi handed her a bottle of water, which she gratefully accepted. He was kind of cute, too, she noticed. The water helped.
“I’m sorry.” Meg covered her face with her hand. “I just… something went down the wrong way, I don’t know…”
“As long as you’re OK.” Sumendi was looking at her with a sort of serious expression. That looked good on him, too. Did he say he was a firefighter? Meg really, really liked firefighters.
“Yeah, yeah. I’m fine. Thanks for the water,” she said to the taller guy, handing back the bottle.
“Keep it. Just in case,” he said, smiling. “Hey, would you mind if we got a picture of you guys? You know, together?”
Sumendi smiled again. “Yeah, that would be great!”
Meg was still working to calm her spasming trachea, and knew what her makeup must now look like. “I’d like that, but… Can I just…” She pointed to a mirror in the jewelry booth next to the hoodie booth.
“Oh, sure!” Sumendi said excitedly. Could I sound more like a fourteen-year-old? Damn it!
Meg went over to the next booth, bending down to survey the damage to her eye makeup. It was bad. She pulled her small backpack off her shoulder and rummaged inside. People kept bumping against her in the overcrowded Exhibition Hall, making her work much harder. She was eventually pushed over to the other side of the booth, where there was another mirror. She had to wipe a lot of smeared mascara off her cheeks, which messed up the rest of her makeup, which meant she had to re-do that, too, before she could re-apply her mascara. It took a solid five minutes, with added time to deal with all the pushes and shoves from the crowd and those wanting to get closer to use the mirror themselves to try on jewelry.
“You ready to go on?” Meg heard Karen’s voice at her elbow. She looked up, surprised.
“Oh, well, we’re gonna get a picture together, me and Sumendi.” She looked over to where Sumendi and his friend had been, but couldn’t see them in the seething crowd.
“What Sumendi?”
“The cool one, the one we saw at the panel. They were right there-“
Liz stepped up beside Karen. “They didn’t have any good Dr. Who shirts. Let’s go.”
“No, but… wait-“
“Meg, I don’t see any Sumendi around here. Maybe he bailed.”
“He didn’t bail! They were right there!” She moved toward the hoodie booth as best she could, but there were so many people crowded around it was difficult to maneuver. Pushing a bit, she got further into the walkway but couldn’t see Sumendi or his friend.
“Damn! They’re gone.”
Karen and Liz hustled Meg along to the next booth. They still had a lot of ground to cover. Meg was crushed. That Sumendi had been really cute. And he said he was a firefighter. And that smile!
Meanwhile, Brian and Cruz had been shoved into the hoodie booth, and were trying to get back to the walkway, but it was taking forever. Finally, Joe used his elbow-swim move to escape the booth, with Brian in tow. By the time they got out to the walkway, Tabiti was nowhere in sight. Brian sighed. He had really liked the deep copper color of her hair, especially with her green eyes. Plus, she’d remembered him from the panel!
****************
“OK, this is where I leave you,” Cruz announced as Brian joined the line for his picture with Anthony Lang. It was only two thirty, but he wanted to be sure to get his picture and autograph.
“You sure, Cruz? This is Anthony Lang we’re talking about.”
“I know, but I’m not paying seventy-five bucks for a picture with a dude I can see in a movie for less than twenty. You’re crazy. I’m going back in, to finish the Exhibition Hall.”
“Fine. You’re missing out.”
Cruz gave a little wave and disappeared into the crowd, just missing colliding with Meg as she maneuvered through the crush of people to join the line for pictures and autographs with Anthony Lang. Looking around, she figured out where the end of the line was and stepped up behind the last person, who happened to have a really good Sumendi costume –
“Hey! It’s you!” Brian greeted Meg, again giving her that blinding smile. She blinked a bit, momentarily confused by his sudden reappearance and by the effect that smile had on her.
“Oh, hi! We got separated. I’m sorry, I really wanted to have a picture with you.”
“Yeah, so did I. But we can do it now. You know, if you want.”
Meg’s face fell a little. “I’d like that. I guess you’ll have to text it to me, though, because my phone died.”
Now Brian’s face fell. “You are not going to believe this.”
“What?”
“I don’t have a phone, either. I gave it to my roommate, because there’s no place for it in my costume, and I didn’t want to be bothered with it. He has it in his jacket.”
Just Brian’s luck. Here he was, looking great as Sumendi, with a long wait ahead next to the best Tabiti he’d seen at the Con, who seemed genuinely excited to have their picture taken together, and neither of them had a phone. His choices were laugh or cry. Or swear a blue streak, he supposed, but he didn’t know this girl and she seemed really nice. Maybe she would be turned off if he swore. But he was brutally disappointed.
Meg laughed, so Brian joined her. She was no more thrilled than he was not to have a camera, but maybe they could find her friends, or his, when they were done with Anthony Lang. Or maybe they could get a picture taken in the booth with Anthony Lang. That would be really cool. In any event, she was pretty happy to get to spend the next hour or so with this cute Sumendi while they waited. They were going to get a chance to actually talk. To get to know each other. She wondered whether he was single. She also wondered, based on the excellent craftsmanship of his costume and his obvious closeness to the guy he’d called his “roommate”, whether he was straight. She really hoped so.
“I’m Brian, by the way,” he introduced himself.
“Meg.”
“Meg. Nice name.”
“Short for Margaret. Call me Margaret and you’ll get Tabiti’s scepter up your nose.”
Brian held up his hands. “Meg it is. That tip looks like it could do some real damage.”
Meg smiled and took a look at the tip of her scepter, which had a lampwork glass flame at the end. It was fairly pointed. “Just letting you know the rules.”
“That scepter is great. You’re really talented. How’d you make that?”
Meg explained the rather simple process of fabricating the scepter. The basic idea wasn’t too complicated; she’d started with an old baton. But she made Brian laugh with her story of the lengthy and heated negotiations she’d had to conduct with the friend who made the tip.
The friend, Alice, made lampwork beads, which was a fairly expensive hobby that required a great deal of practice to master. Besides that, the flame tip had to be both intricate - woven of several different colors of glass - and strong enough to withstand whatever abuse it would get at the Con. Alice’s initial price had been far too steep for Meg to afford, so Meg had offered to clean Alice’s apartment in addition to paying what cash she could. No deal. Meg had added a week of cat sitting, but still the price was more than she could pay. In the end, Alice had agreed to accept the price Meg offered, along with the apartment cleaning and cat sitting, plus one more, hideous cost.
Alice had a cousin named Harold. Harold’s mother, Alice’s aunt, was very concerned that Harold, who was going on twenty, hadn’t met the right girl yet. Alice’s aunt kept pressuring Alice to set Harold up. So Meg had ended up having to accept a date with Harold.
There was a reason Harold hadn’t met the right girl. Several, in fact. First and foremost, Harold had the worst breath Meg had ever experienced. He was also extremely shy, but only at first. Once the lights had gone down in the movie theater, suddenly he was all hormones and hands, and Meg had spent the next two hours ignoring the movie in favor of fending off almost-continual frontal assaults.
In the end, the guy behind them in the theater had actually leaned forward and hissed to Harold, “Dude, even I can see you’re not gonna get there with her. Give it up and let’s all leave with what little dignity we have left.”
After the movie, Harold had taken Meg to a bar he said he frequented. Meg was completely uninterested in Harold, but after what she’d been through, she was very interested in a drink, so she’d agreed. “They know me here,” Harold said proudly.
They didn’t know him there. And, apparently, he didn’t know them, either, because the bar’s clientele, while sparse, was mostly female, and entirely gay. When they had their drinks (Meg didn’t usually do shots, but it was an emergency), Harold had once again begun relentlessly trying to grope her. Meg was usually a very nice person, but she’d had enough. So she said, quite loudly, “Listen, I have asked you more than once to stop trying to touch me like that. No means no. Knock it off.”
Harold was very unceremoniously escorted from the bar by a lovely woman named Bud. Meg had enjoyed getting to know Bud over a few drinks, and they’d had a few laughs at Harold’s expense, but Meg was honest about her preferences when Bud handed over her phone number. Bud didn’t seem to mind that Meg wasn’t planning to call, which Meg actually found pretty attractive. She kept Bud’s number. She didn’t even mind having to pay for the cab home.
Brian liked that story a lot. He had really appreciated the opportunity to simply stand there, listening to Meg and appreciating the way her green eyes sparkled when she smiled, and the cute way her nose wrinkled when she laughed. Meg was funny, and Brian especially liked that the story indicated quite clearly that she wasn’t seeing anyone. Which, of course, was part of Meg’s reason for telling it, in addition to introducing the topic of lesbians in hopes that Brian would share something that would let her know which team he played for.
“Now it’s your turn to tell me an embarrassing story about you,” Meg invited.
“The problem with that is there are so many choices,” Brian mused. “Stuff seems to… happen to me.” He hemmed and hawed for a few moments. He needed to find a story that would let her know that he, too, was single, and preferably one that also reminded her (in case she’d missed it the first time) that he was a firefighter. Women loved firefighters.
“Well, there was this one time on a fire – did I mention I’m a firefighter? – when this really, really huge guy was stuck in a hammock. We never did learn why he had a hammock in his living room, but…”
Brian told a very funny story that ended with the man being rescued (if not very gracefully) and the man wanting to reward Brian with a date with his sister. He had tried valiantly to get out of the “reward”, explaining to the man that it wasn’t necessary, and that it was really a little frowned upon for firefighters to be rewarded for just doing their jobs. Baked goods or something, sure, but… Brian had been entirely unable to talk the man out of it. The entire firehouse had given him endless shit about it, because all of them imagined the sister as, basically, the brother in drag.
Until she showed up at the firehouse for their date and was one of the most beautiful women any of them had ever seen.
“So? Did you marry her and live happily ever after?” Meg asked, laughing (on the outside, at least – she was finding that she cared more by the moment whether he liked girls).
“I’m afraid not,” Brian answered with a cute twist of his lips. “She was about two feet taller than I am, and she was, um… let’s just say we should set her up with your friend’s cousin. They’d never be heard from again.”
“I thought guys liked women with, um, an appetite.”
“Well, sure, to a point. But that one… I don’t think I want to marry a woman if I’d be afraid to fall asleep around her.”
They both enjoyed a long moment of laughter. Hmmm. So he’s single and apparently straight. Well, well.
The conversation moved on to the Planetary Saviors. For quite some time, Brian and Meg enjoyed talking about what they liked – and didn’t like – about the Sumendi movies thus far and what they hoped to see in the new movie that would include all of the Planetary Saviors. The fun of that conversation was that they didn’t always agree – Brian thought Sumendi’s look in the movies was nowhere near as good as in the original comics, while Meg had to admit to not having read the comics themselves. Somehow, whether because they were intentionally trying to humor one another due to their mutual attraction, or because they really didn’t mind, they found that their differences actually made them see the Planetary Saviors universe just a bit differently than they had. Rather than being annoyed, they were each favorably impressed with the other’s slightly different take on the franchise.
“Sumendi’s made of fire, right? I mean, he’s basically the son of a volcano, so why doesn’t he have any glow to him? In the comics, he does. He has a sort of inner light that makes him look sort of… molten inside, you know?”
Since Meg hadn’t seen the comics, they borrowed some comic books and a couple of artists’ renderings that people around them in line had purchased at the Con. She saw Brian’s point. He liked that she was interested in his thoughts, and was especially impressed when she began to think out loud about ways he could make his costume have that same lit-from-within quality.
“That’s genius!” He cried. “I would never have thought of that. I’m going to-“
The crowd noise, which had been fairly deafening, suddenly ceased entirely as the air was split by a scream. All eyes turned in the direction it had come from, behind and to the left of the booth at which Brian and Meg were waiting for Anthony Lang. A knot of people were standing around a woman on the floor, but the thick crowd had parted so that there was a few feet between the people with the woman and the staring mass just beyond. The woman on the ground was jerking violently and appeared to be very pregnant.
“She’s seizing,” Meg cried as she slipped quickly under the ropes that demarcated the line she and Brian had been in. Running over to the woman, Meg dropped her belongings as she knelt on the floor beside her. She reached out and took the woman by the shoulders, helping her to turn onto her side, and was surprised to find Brian kneeling next to her, bending one of the woman’s legs so that she rolled smoothly and easily.
Meg whipped off her Tabiti headpiece and set it on the floor next to her, beginning to assess the woman quickly. She determined that she was breathing shallowly and irregularly as she seized, and had a strong pulse.
“Who’s with her?” Brian asked loudly, using a tone that instantly commanded attention.
“We are – she’s my sister. This is her husband,” a thin, terrified-looking woman in a pretty bad SuperGirl costume answered, pointing out the blank-faced teenager next to her.
While Meg commandeered a sweatshirt from a bystander to put under the woman’s head, Brian continued to ask the right questions.
“What happened?”
“She just… fell down. She started jerking like this and she won’t wake up!”
“How far along is she?”
“She’s thirty two weeks,” the sister answered. “What’s wrong with her? What’s happening?”
Brian looked at Meg, who almost imperceptibly shook her head.
“We’re going to figure that out. Who has a phone?”
Brian pointed to the first person whose brandishing of a cell phone caught his attention. “OK, you. Call 911. Stand right here next to me, and when you get them on the line, put them on speaker. You-“ he pointed to a spray-tanned Superman. “Go get help. Security, anyone with a walkie-talkie. Tell them what’s happening and get us whatever medical equipment they have here.”
The woman appeared to have stopped seizing for the moment. Meg looked at the teenager who had been identified as the woman’s husband. “Talk to me, Dad. What medical problems does she have?”
“N-n-nothing. She’s been fine.”
“Has she ever had a seizure before?”
“No! What’s wrong with her?”
“What medications does she take?”
“Nothing. Prenatal vitamins.”
Meg took her pulse at her wrist again, and then felt for her pulse at her throat. She leaned toward Brian and muttered quietly, “Her pulse is bounding – we’ll know more when we can get a BP, but I’m thinking eclampsia.”
“That woulda been my guess. Pregnant, seizing… You a doctor?”
“RN. We need help.”
“It’s on its way. For the moment, it’s you and me.” He looked up at the person he’d asked to call 911. “What’s the holdup?”
“I don’t know. I don’t have much of a signal in here…”
Sharply exhaling in exasperation, Brian looked up at another person who was holding a phone and appeared to be filming the incident. “You. Call 911. And nobody else better be filming. This woman has the right to privacy, same as you.”
The second person got through immediately and handed Brian the phone. He put it on speaker and, as Meg fed him information, he relayed it to the 911 operator. They worked smoothly together, and Brian had time to notice the expertise with which Meg worked with the woman, who was beginning to regain consciousness. They were both experienced first responders, so their teamwork was not entirely surprising, but there was also an element of natural communication between them. They’d gravitated to their roles in this situation without thought or discussion.
Meg reached up and unclasped her cape. Brian caught the movement and immediately understood. He helped her remove it and cover the woman with it, then removed his own (which was a little more difficult due to the wings) and put that over her, too. For the next five minutes, they did what they could to make the woman comfortable while Meg got as much medical history as possible and monitored her vital signs. Then the woman began to seize again, and they kept her safe while she thrashed and jerked, making sure she didn’t hit her head and getting people to give them extra clothing so that they could keep something soft between her spasming limbs and the hard floor.
Brian leaned in to Meg. “This is lasting too long.”
“Yeah. And she’s stopped breathing. As soon as she stops seizing, we need to be ready to do CPR.”
“Got it.”
At that moment, three people came running through the crowd, pushing their way into the circle around the woman with cases of emergency equipment. They were all EMTs stationed at the facility for the event, so Meg moved aside and reported to them that she was an RN and Brian was a firefighter, and told them what they knew so that the EMTs could take over. She wondered what was taking the ambulance so long, since there were two hospitals within minutes of the facility, but she thought she was probably just dealing with the distorted sense of time that comes with an emergency.
“Do you have any medications in your kits?” She asked the EMT who appeared to be leading the team.
“No.”
“Shit.”
“Yeah, don’t get me started.”
“She seems to be coming out of it, and I think she’s breathing again. Want me to get a BP?”
“Nah, I got it. But thanks.”
Not long afterward, the sound of a siren was clearly heard, even over the sound of the mob that was now getting back into the swing of the Con. A fair number of people were still huddled around the scene, watching, but the circle around them was only a few people deep now, since beyond that, no one could really see anything. The rest had decided to go back to their shopping. As the ambulance crew hurried through the Hall, Brian could follow their progress fairly accurately by the disturbance in the throng. He began to back people up so that the paramedics could get through with the gurney.
The ambulance crew was one he didn’t know. Their arrival caused quite a bit of excitement and hubbub in the area, and Brian lost track of Meg in the group of milling, pushing people. He wasn’t needed to help lift the woman onto the gurney, so he stepped back a bit and tried to control the crowd, to give the paramedics as much room as he could get them in the press of curious gawkers. Soon, the woman had been given some medication to stop her seizures, and the gurney carrying her was rushed from the scene, her sister and teenage husband in tow.
The crowd flowed back together as though they had never been there, except for Meg’s Tabiti headpiece, which Brian saw on the floor and picked up. He found himself unable to resist the tide of movement, and was swept closer to the booth where he was supposed to be having his picture taken with Anthony Lang. He didn’t see Meg anywhere. Without her Tabiti headpiece on, it was impossible to identify her head among the seeming thousands around him.
He thought she would probably make for the booth again, though, so he fought his way over to it, only to see a large sign:
Anthony Lang Appearance Cancelled For Today.
The sign gave a website people could go to in order to try to reschedule or get refunds. Meg wasn’t there.
Brian carried Meg’s headpiece under his arm as he looked everywhere in the huge Exhibition Hall over the next hour. There were simply too many people, moving in too many directions, and the Hall was just too big. Meg was nowhere to be found. All he had to prove she had been real was the papier-mâché headpiece she’d worn as part of her costume.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Saturday 16th June, 2018
This isn’t a super long recap, just a couple of little things I really loved (mostly about act four) and wanted to gush about! By which I mean half of these points turn into rambling headcanons and this is actually well over 2k words long. I should probably apologise now... *whispers* I have a lot of feelings, okay?
Act Three, Scene One
“So we can continue our work together?” “We can” - It’s always been difficult to imagine Scorpius ever being the Scorpion King, and Jonathan’s Scorpius even more so. Yet today I truly saw the Scorpion King on stage for the first time. It was so jarring. Jonathan has such a baby face. His Scorpius is the definition of precious. Yet when he lowered his chin and his voice as he spoke to Umbridge, their was a flash of something. It was dangerous and sinister. It only lasted a second or two each time, but it was there. It was frightening how he could slip into that, but a relief that he couldn’t hold it. It’s not who he is but clearly it’s there within him.
Act Three, Scene Twenty
Jonathan was so great to watch in the torture scene today. He was getting so angry with Delphi. I love the way his voice dropped as he spoke back to her. He’ll stand up for himself and defend his friend even if it kills him. That anger, that fight inside of him… in the most unexpected turn of events, it’s Jonathan’s Scorpius who I can see the Scorpion King in the most. (Or at least aspects of him. It doesn’t seem like an impossible jump anymore.) He may look like a sweet sunshine child but make no mistake, he’s a Malfoy and he’ll protect what’s his at any cost. For example, despite having been tortured several times himself, the second Delphi goes to raise her wand at Albus to hit him with a crucio, Scorpius immediately leapt up and tried to get in between them despite being bound and injured himself. There was zero hesitation here. Even when he stumbled, he got straight back up and moved towards him again. It was a selfless act as well as one of pure defiance against Delphi. I was beaming with pride. Now this is the Scorpius people don’t see. The one Scorpius wishes his dad knew about. It’s sad because this is Scorpius. It defines so much about his character. I hope Draco learns about it one day. I also hope Albus acknowledges it at some point. I don’t know how you even go about thanking someone for doing that. But if anyone can, it’s Albus. Oh! Also, imagine Albus and Draco talking about Scorpius one day and Draco thanking Albus for looking out for his son or something. But then Albus being like, ‘Me??? He was the one who protected me.’ Now that’s a conversation...
Act Four, Scene Three
“My geekiness is a-quivering” - (Jonathan is still saying geekiness not geekness ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ) Scorpius was flailing so hard he was at the point of passing out. Bless him. So Albus comes running over and stands in front of Scorpius and says, “Scorpius, breathe”, and as he does, he’s raised his hands up and slowly lowers them in hopes Scorpius will breathe out in time with him. He did, and it was brilliant. He had those breathing exercises ready to go which makes me believe this isn’t the first time he’s had to do this. Amazing. Such nerds. I LOVE THEM.
Act Four, Scene Eight
"You know about Delphi?” - So right before this, the boys are asked where Delphi is and Scorpius tries to respond but struggles. You see, Jonathan’s Scorpius has a bit of a stutter and he tends to restart his sentences and stumbles over words. I love it because it adds a whole new layer to Scorpius. This nervous, lonely kid who’s bullied and gossiped about by children and adults alike, and now he has this to deal with too. What’s worse is that none of the above are going to help him overcome his problem either. If anything, they exacerbate the issue. The contrast between him and his dad is also interesting. Draco is such a Malfoy, a real smooth talker. I’m sure watching his son grow up and struggle with his speech must have been difficult for them both. It’s another hurdle they would have had to overcome. But anyway, back to my point. When Scorpius was trying to talk here today, Draco stood next to him and just like everyone else, was eager to hear what was going on. This is vital information! But when Scorpius started to stutter, Draco started nodding his head along with him. Not in anger or out of frustration, but in an encouraging kind of way. I couldn’t tell you what happened much after this because I was lost in a world of headcanons. Of Draco’s concern, of Astoria’s support, and of their joint effort to help him in any way they could. I have no shame in admitting that it had me in tears. I haven’t seen Draco acknowledge his son’s stutter before and I never realised how much I needed it. This tiny little thing said so much about their father-son relationship. Especially since it was after their hug. It was like getting a glimpse into their lives outside of Hogwarts.
This is what I adore about James Howard. He takes those few and far between moments in the script and adds so much richness to it. He’s a true blessing to this play.
Act Four, Scene Nine
This is such a weird thing to notice but I myself am weird so here goes… you know in St. Jerome’s when Albus is asleep on the pew while Ginny and Harry are talking? Well Albus is always completely still, but today Joe moved slightly. I think he was simply readjusting his head (books don’t make good pillows whatever Scorpius says) but it made me think of an old ‘what if?’ I had. So once upon a time I suggested that maybe Albus wasn’t actually asleep in this scene. He’s merely pretending and ends up listening in to his parents conversation. I don’t think he is, but can you imagine if he was? Albus listening to his dad talking about how he does love him specifically. That he loves him to such an extend he understands how you could repel the spell of death (a spell Albus has now witnessed firsthand). His dad listening to his mum for advice just as he himself probably has over the years. Because ‘dad is pretty complicated’ so I’m sure he’s had many conversations with her about him over the years. Again, I don’t think he is listening in but reading/watching that scene with that in mind makes it super interesting. The later scenes too. Albus awkwardly looking at his dad after the ‘there’s plenty of things you’re good at’ line. Albus would understand what that’s about. It isn’t ‘right’ but he would finally see that his dad is trying. Then Albus standing up for his dad to Draco. He doesn’t quite know what he’s doing either but if his dad is trying then so can he. They share a small smile after this by the way and it warms my heart immensely. As does Hermione and Ginny knowingly smiling at each other and Harry.
Talking of ‘what if’s, you know in Deathly Hallows when Hermione falls asleep on the sofa and Ron on the floor and Harry sees them in the morning and they’ve clearly fallen asleep holding hands? Well... imagine this with Albus and Scorpius in the church. Albus is on a pew and Scorpius has collected every single cushion he can find to make a bed on the floor beside him (he’s too tall to fit longways on the bench). Imagine the adults finding them some time later and noticing how their arms have fallen, clearly meaning they were at some point most likely holding hands. Now that’s a conversation I’m sure either of them want to overhear right now. Because it isn’t about that.
It doesn’t stop Ron saying ‘bloody hell’ as he stumbles upon them. Or Hermione’s knowing smile. Or Draco’s initial internalised panic before he’s overwhelmed by relief at his son’s happiness. Or Harry experiencing déjà vu and not knowing what to do about anything. Or Ginny smacking Ron as he boosts about his love potion while she tries to contain her own delight. Because she knows right now, this doesn’t mean much more than two best friends holding onto each other for support (and probably out of fear the other will disappear as soon as they close their eyes). But she’s got a feeling it probably won’t stay this way...
Act Four, Scene Ten
So while Ron and Draco are winding each other up in the church, I decided to watch Albus since this act is Joe’s strongest. He did not disappoint. When Ron first said ‘zap her’, Albus looked across at him and smiled and nodded along. His face screamed ‘yeeeah!’, he was clearly very onboard with this ‘masterful’ plan. But then Draco laughed at the plan and pointed out it’s flaws and Albus turned to look at him and instantly changed his allegiance. He stopped getting excited over Ron’s plan and looked far more serious and started nodding along with Draco. I absolutely LOVED IT. I loved it because you got to see two sides of Albus so clearly. Because there’s aspects of Ron and Draco in his personality. He’s impulsive and funny, yet all dry humour and pure resourcefulness. (His plans are spectacular when he puts his mind to it.) So it was brilliant to watch him flit between the two so quickly.
Personally, I think these two influence Albus a lot. Or at least have in the past and will do in the future. They’re important to him. I think the way Albus runs up the stairs towards Ron in the other timeline when he’s frustrated by Harry says a lot. It makes you wonder how often he’s done that. Gone to his uncle Ron for sweets and a joke because they’re easier to ask for than support. It’s a thing they do. A code. Then of course Draco’s influence will come much later. I have no doubt about that. They’re so alike and have common interests. Although right now he’s probably just 1000% aware he no doubt blames him just slightly for dragging his son into this. He wants to make a better impression (he’s Scorpius’s dad after all) and besides, Albus is a Slytherin. He understands Draco’s logic over Ron’s Gryffindor style plan any day. (It must be nice, having grown up surrounded by Gryffindors, to finally be around an adult Slytherin.) But yeah... to see Albus stood in between these two and connect with them both was everything.
Act Four, Scene Eleven
“You’ll always be an orphan. That never leaves you.” - From the angle I was sat, I could see Scorpius perfectly over Harry’s shoulder for this line and oh boy was that interesting. So as soon as Harry says this line, Scorpius instantly looked at Harry and the look on his face broke my heart. Now I know he’s not an orphan, but it was like he was understanding that the loss of his mother was a pain that was never going to go away. It’s something that will stay with him forever, and that’s something he’s going to have to process. I feel like deep down he knew this already but hearing Harry Potter confirm it out loud clearly affected him. It only lasts a moment before he remembers where he is and what’s happening. He then quickly broke his stare and looked down at the ground. It was such a fleeting moment but it said so much about Scorpius. I guess with Albus not talking about her much and the topic being one Draco can’t seem to broach with him, having it said so plainly in front of him gave him no choice but to face it. But then after everything he’s just gone through, maybe it’s an approach he won’t hesitate so much over in the future?
Act Four, Scene Twelve
“And there’s nothing I can do to stop him” “That’s not true” - Draco’s line was said in a slightly different tone today but that’s not what threw me. It was the fact Draco flicked his robe back and reached for his wand. I have never, ever seen a Draco do that before and I was in shock. (Or at least never so aggressively? That’s what caught my eye. The forcefulness with which he did it.) Because what could he have done? Gone after Voldemort himself? I could understand that on some level. For his childhood and for how it’s still affecting his son’s life. But then Scorpius reached over and put his hand on him and said, “Dad, now is not the time”, and he stopped. It was like it hit him where he was and who he was now. You could see the effect Scorpius has had on him. His whole body changed as he realised what he instinctively wanted to do and what he needed to do where totally different because he was different now. (I wonder how that felt? Having those feelings take over so quickly. I wonder if Scorpius has similar fears with the Scorpion King? I wonder if when/how Draco and Scorpius discuss this?!) The fact he then spends every second of the rest of this scene holding Scorpius so tightly in his arms to comfort him tells you everything you need to know about who Draco is now. This is how this man protects his son, by putting his needs first. Nothing shows how much he’s grown like this scene does.
While it was a super interesting choice for this scene, I’m not sure I could take it every time. My heart stopped beating for a second there. I mean, let’s face it. Draco would no doubt lose a duel against Voldemort. But I guess that glimpse of the old Draco was intriguing. But orphaning his son is not an option. Revenge, fear, justice. Those instincts mean nothing compared to what his son means to him.
I have to say, it reminded me a lot of Albus. Albus is headstrong and fuelled by his need to defend Scorpius during the torture scene, yet one gesture/word from Scorpius and it stops him. That parallel is fascinating. I’ve always said those two are more alike than they realise right now. But once they get to know each other they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
Act Four, Scene Fifteen
“That heart is a good one” - As Harry said this, he pointed at Albus’s heart and a second later, it was like Albus realised what his dad was saying and instantly got a little bit embarrassed by the compliment. He quickly zipped up his hoodie and turned round away from his dad to hide and Harry laughed so much. Albus, realising everything is surprisingly okay between them, turns back to face his dad and gives him a shy little smile. It was adorably sweet. My heart...
The Harry and Albus hug at the very end hit me right in the feels. Harry reached his arm round Albus’s back and Albus looked down at his dad’s hand on his shoulder and smiled. He then rested his head on his dad’s shoulder and pretty much tucked himself into his chest. They both looked so happy. Harry then put his other arm round Albus and brought them into a proper hug and as the lights went down, I cried like the little girl that I am. These Potters have a lot to answer for.

Brace yourself - here comes the next wave
Hi to all -
Hope your Easter (or other religious service) was wonderful, and that it filled you with hope and enthusiasm for the coming year. I expect we will see many changes, some expected, others will come as a surprise.
Florida
Well, that state is in the headlines today. One issue was that a reservoir there was in 'imminent danger of collapse'. Okay, that is bad. But, in this case, it becomes much more dangerous. This water is used to cover radioactive waste, and if it goes, we could have a major national risk, something like 'fallout', and I mean that literally. Did you hear what Biden is doing to mitigate or prevent this terrible event? Neither did anyone else. See, the Governor told him off and refused his demands for a mask mandate, so Biden will ignore this, so long as he can, then drag his feet while blaming others.
But, Florida is doing well. Lockdowns are almost gone, along with mask mandates. Business is thriving once again, people are happy. How do you know? Well, people are moving to Florida in great numbers - and away from places like New York, with their corrupt governments and harsh oppression of the people. But NY supports Biden, so they must be protected, at all costs. Remember, a large portion of the 'stimulus' and 'infrastructure' bills were to bail out the failed states of NY and California.
So, what is next for Florida? Sixty Minutes did a hit piece on the Governor, accusing him of 'pay for play' - the standard democrat business model. They accused him of favoring vaccine rollout via Publix supermarket pharmacies, for campaign contributions. If we do a little research, I will bet we find that democrats are doing that all over the nation. They always accuse others of what they are doing. To convey this message, they 'edited' an interview, then aired it. But what these folks never seem to realize is that they do not have the only copy of such things. Other networks had the full story, and it presents a very different picture. So, they played both, side by side.
Well, another standard tactic of the left is to smear the people who are a threat to their power. Expect more of the same.
Georgia
Well, the smears and outright lies continue over the voting law bill here. The idea that voters must prove their identity is just too much for people like Stacy, who still thinks and claims that she won the election a while back. Can you say 'sour grapes', boys and girls? Sure you can. Guess democrats think that minorities are too stupid to actually get any form of ID, and need the protection of their party. You know, modern day urban slavery. Has anyone noticed how much the formerly inner-city black community has progressed? Yes, there are still riots and incidents - greatly facilitated by paid agitators who are nearly always imports to the area.
The republicans in the Georgia legislature have demanded the removal of Coke machines from their offices, over Coke opposing the voter law.
Hunter Biden
His laptop is filled with bad things. His crooked business deals, with payoffs for him, his father and others. Thousands of photos of Hunter with underage girls, and much more. So, it is time to put up a block, and try to deflect what is coming. Hunter got on TV, and claimed to have no memory of even owning the laptop, much less abandoning it in a repair shop (the owner has had to flee the area, perhaps the nation, over death threats - fake laptops rarely generate death threats, now do they?) Hunter asserts that it must be Russian disinformation to discredit him and his family. Can he sell that line, again? I suspect that this is a time bomb, and no matter how much they try to bury it, it is going to explode right in their faces.
Piers Morgan
He really was offended by the 'royals' whining interview on Oprah. He did not like the rest of the royal family being called racist by this spoiled couple. And, he said so, loudly. Even walked off the set on his own show when others tried to brew up a storm in a teapot. For refusing to accept the left's version of the story, he was fired from his job. Wonder if he will soon have a job on Fox, or another network?
The Border
In spite of all the efforts of the Biden team, videos are leaking out of conditions there. They are much, much worse than we thought. Roughly a quarter million people per month are streaming in, often as minors without families, and they are being released into the general population, complete with any diseases they bring, and without regard to their criminal status, or even if they are literally on our terrorist watch lists. One can only describe this as an effort to destroy the country. Glad I do not live on the left coast, but the effects will be everywhere.
Oh, yes, Biden spokespersons are now openly admitting that his spending plans will mean massive tax hikes on the middle class (they always do, the poor have nothing, the rich buy off the politicians). Does anyone calculate how much per person this means? A few trillion dollars divided among about 150 million actual working taxpayers is how much? If the money goes to that, something else must be cut back, and you know what that means - depression, inflation and destruction. It always works that way.
Joe also says that taking the vaccination is a 'moral obligation'. So, is there also a moral obligation to promote other treatments, like HCQ, and some of those other drugs, that work, but do not make money for the few?
UBER Driver and Teens
The two teen girls, aged 13 and 15, who tried to carjack an UBER driver, wrecked his car and killed him in the process, are not going to be tried as adults for the First-Degree Murder for which they were charged. Nope. They will be tried as juveniles, and will be free as birds, with no record, by the time they turn 21. Wonder if they will have to pay for the funeral of the man they killed, or buy his family a new car, or do anything else at all?
All of these events are building to a crescendo. Sooner or later, it is all going to blow up in the face of the left, and the public will demand change. Democrats have never been graceful losers, so I expect that a time of conflict will accompany the changes.

When some economists advised sending every American a check, Pelosi shot that down, arguing against money for millionaires. This culminated in a means-tested $1,200 stimulus payment. You only got the money if your earnings were under $100,000 per year, based on earnings data as far back as 2018. This deprived people who subsequently may have lost their job from getting relief.
A separate legislative response purported to provide sick leave to workers, except employers with more than 500 workers and those with fewer than 50 were exempted from the requirement. When asked about this, Pelosi said large employers should provide sick leave themselves, without government subsidies (workers needing paid time off might not have minded). Meanwhile, several legislative efforts promised free COVID-19 testing for all, but the health care industry has managed to find loopholes there too: Reporters keep finding people paying thousands of dollars.
Meanwhile, while Pelosi took the lead on the initial, smaller bills, she allowed Mitch McConnell to write the vehicle for economic relief, known as the CARES Act. McConnell casually drew up a $4.5 trillion “money cannon” corporate bailout, which rapidly rescued the investor class before it was even spent. Who drafts the baseline legislation makes a big difference: If Pelosi had written the CARES Act, it could have included such ideas from her caucus as government-provided payroll support, increased food stamps, guaranteed vote-by-mail to ensure voting rights during the pandemic, significant state and local aid, free coronavirus treatment, assistance for the U.S. Postal Service (which may go belly-up come September), a national contact tracing program, and much more. Instead, they just got to tweak McConnell’s work, without altering its tilt toward the powerful.
Relief for individuals, like the one-time stimulus checks and boosts to unemployment insurance, was clumsily implemented and, most important, temporary. Pelosi and Schumer touted stringent corporate-bailout oversight, but Trump fired the inspectors general charged with monitoring it, and Pelosi and McConnell spent months failing to name a chair of the only entity Trump couldn’t meddle with, the Congressional Oversight Commission.
These failures were Pelosi’s alone. She deliberately slowed allowing members to vote remotely or through a proxy while lawmakers were locked down at home. Because of this, during the crucial months of March and April, Pelosi became a one-woman House of Representatives, unilaterally writing legislation or negotiating with Republicans, and presenting the finished product to House members, take it or leave it. This effectively disenfranchised hundreds of millions of Americans and limited the Democratic Caucus to issuing press releases while Pelosi did the work of governing. But this power grab wasn’t put toward anything resembling a clear goal.
After four bills passed, Pelosi got around to putting together a bill, the HEROES Act, which included all of the important pieces she deferred in other legislation. But by this time, Republicans had their corporate bailout and could ignore further efforts. The HEROES Act was another unfocused wish list, which Democratic leaders telegraphed as a messaging bill to set up future negotiations. As of press time, those negotiations hadn’t begun.
The bill also included random giveaways. It extended small-business grants to K Street lobbyists, even though lobby firms were still as busy as ever trying to win perks for their clients. This would amount to Congress donating to the groups that devise campaigns intended to influence them, and as former members often gravitate to K Street, would have lawmakers handing over money to their future employers, which is about as corrupt as you can get.
UNDERLYING THIS ALL, incredibly in the midst of a crisis, was a Pelosi tendency that had grown over the years: obsessive concern with deficits. Pelosi rolled back student debt relief in the HEROES Act after learning that it would cost $100 billion more than expected. This was a $3.2 trillion messaging bill not designed to become law, yet an additional 3 percent cost was considered unacceptable. Pelosi also declined to add “automatic stabilizers” that would maintain expanded benefits until economic stress dissipated, blaming a Congressional Budget Office scoring quirk that made the cost appear artificially larger.
So with over 30 million out of work, the important thing to Pelosi was that her pie-in-the-sky, going-nowhere bill was "reasonable,” based on some ineffable standard of reason. It matches the worldview of a Democratic leader who, just two years ago, made a lugubrious elegy on the House floor after the death of Pete Peterson, who bankrolled the deficit hysteria industry for decades and relentlessly targeted Social Security for cuts. ([Author] Ball does reveal that Pelosi told Obama during his “grand bargain” talks that she would support his aims, “even if it meant agreeing to entitlement cuts.”)
Devotion to deficit hawkery in normal times is unwise policy. It’s downright fatal during an economic crisis, where relief could be yanked away from needy families prematurely simply because of an unwillingness to challenge the CBO’s scoring model. But here we finally see the contours of Pelosi’s governing framework, not just on the budget, but on everything.
Pelosi believes that the nation’s resources are scarce, and what sadly passes for the modern welfare state must be protected at all costs, rather than raised to greater heights. The goal is, at best, a less bad world than Republicans want. It’s a defensive crouch dating back to Pelosi’s initial entry into Congress under President Reagan, and it has dominated her thinking ever since.
Progressives who dream too big are to be sat in a corner, and anti-government conservatives are to be bargained with and mollified. Official Washington’s approval is craved. Pelosi hosts an annual ideas conference at her own vineyard for a group of elite donors. That’s who gets to scale the fortress she has built around her desiccated ambitions. Her thoughts today on activism date back to something she said during her first campaign: “Someday they will realize just how insignificant they are.”
Pelosi demands total control; you can argue that she never groomed a successor for this purpose, to keep everyone reliant on her. She finds this to be the best method to gain leverage over the legislative process. But to what end is this leverage employed? Pelosi fights intensely to obtain power, but she seems toconsider power so fragile and fleeting that it shouldn’t be used for very much.
Democrats captured the House in the 2018 midterms on a promise to counter Trump’s lawlessness and corruption. Yet today we have an unchecked kleptocracy, with very little sustained oversight coming from the House. Trump’s wars were not discontinued and his border camps were not shut down; even his border wall, which caused a prolonged government shutdown in 2019, was still funded through repurposing military money, something the House has never attempted to reverse.
Now, we have a crisis recovery limited to the wealthy and connected, threatening economic disaster for ordinary people. Leverage for a better solution was squandered. John Boehner was an incompetent leader, but even in divided government, he succeeded in his caucus’s primary aim of cutting spending. During his tenure, public investment fell to its lowest portion of GDP since Eisenhower. Pelosi is clever and sharp, yet astonishingly little has changed.
Pelosi’s deal to gain the Speaker’s gavel a second time requires her to step down after 2022. If Joe Biden wins the election, and Democrats gain a governing trifecta, she’ll have one final chance to write her legacy. The circumstances dictate a far different course than she appears capable of steering. The past 40 years have seen endless stagnant wages, sinking economic mobility, collapsing trade unionism, and soaring income and wealth inequality, to say nothing of even more enduring structural racism and the persistent black-white wealth gap.

News Trump health promises thwarted by feuding aides, shifting orders - The Washington Post
News
Bitter infighting amongst President Trump’s high properly being officials — as properly as his own transferring calls for on signature insurance policies — like undermined key planks of the president’s properly being-care agenda as he girds for a difficult reelection marketing and marketing campaign, according to unique and damaged-down administration officials.
Even supposing polls screen the pain is seriously crucial to voters, Trump has failed to impart on his most predominant properly being-care guarantees. His notion to dramatically lower the costs patrons pay for prescription medication has been stalled by inner disputes, as properly as by technical and regulatory points, said six folks with data of the process. And an administration notion to interchange the Life like Care Act has no longer materialized even as the administration seeks to strike down the law in federal courtroom.
In recent days, the conflicts between Health and Human Companies and products Secretary Alex Azar and Companies and products for Medicare and Medicaid Companies and products Administrator Seema Verma like spilled into verify with negative leaks about Verma’s use of contractors to spice up her profile at a mark of nearly $3 million to taxpayers and an strive and recoup $47,000 from the authorities for jewelry and dresses stolen on a industrial walk, first reported by Politico. She, in turn, assigned high staffers to probe the leaks and concluded they came from the HHS customary counsel’s region of job. A person shut to Azar denied he had anything to attain with the leaks.
Acting White Dwelling chief of workers Mick Mulvaney met with the pair Wednesday afternoon within the most up-to-date disclose to total the war, even supposing Trump and Vice President Pence like made previous attempts to attain so, to no avail. While Verma had loved high standing with the White Dwelling for her public assaults on Democratic properly being-care proposals and championing of labor requirements in Medicaid, her reputation has been damaged by reports about her questionable use of taxpayer money, according to two senior officials.
Aides said the meeting turned into a final-ditch effort to serve them both within the administration and persuade them to work collectively.
While conflicts inner companies and the White Dwelling are no longer unfamiliar, officials said the stress amongst diverse players has grown untenable in recent months.
“This isn’t a band of brothers. It’s every man on his own. It’s a community of mercenaries,” a senior administration legitimate said, noting that senior officials pursue differing and even conflicting insurance policies.
The White Dwelling played down the war. “There’s no daylight hours between the White Dwelling and HHS as we work to place in power the President’s insurance policies and serve the American healthcare system for everyone,” White Dwelling spokesman Judd Deere said in an announcement.
This memoir of the administration’s efforts on properly being protection is according to interviews with greater than a dozen unique and damaged-down senior administration officials, as properly as lobbyists and outdoors advisers, most of whom spoke on the condition of anonymity to candidly picture aesthetic discussions and conflicts.
A turning point in Azar and Verma’s relationship came earlier this year when Verma and White Dwelling Domestic Protection Council Director Joe Grogan argued to Trump that the nearly $200 billion ticket on Azar’s signature drug rebate proposal, which had known as for ending drugmakers’ rebates to insurance protection middlemen, turned into exorbitant and would raise Medicare premiums ideal sooner than the election. Trump attributable to this reality killed the proposal. Verma and Azar’s relationship deteriorated after the meeting, folks shut to them said.
In the period in-between, Verma and her team spent six months engaged on an ACA substitute notion that she presented to Trump within the Oval Space of job. Azar antagonistic the notion in consequence of it contained subsidies, and there turned into in vogue difference on it contained within the White Dwelling, a White Dwelling legitimate said.
Verma and her backers like she has modified into the sufferer of a “smear marketing and marketing campaign” inviting “strategic leaks coming from inner HHS,” said one person conversant in the perspective of her agency. Grogan and a few assorted administration officials like complained bitterly about HHS management, while Verma quick White Dwelling officials and the HHS customary counsel’s region of job that some females within the department like faced a refined work ambiance, officials said.
But these conflicts are no longer the direct part complicating Trump’s efforts to craft a coherent properly being-care message.
Senior advisers like also learned it no longer easy to navigate the president’s moods, pursuits and fast personality, which has led aides to pursue plans that were within the raze scrapped, at occasions for political causes. That turned into evident when Trump announced in September that the administration would ban all flavored e-cigarettes, very finest to support down last month after marketing and marketing campaign advisers said it could well perchance lead to job losses and damage his reelection possibilities.
While nearly every person interviewed for this text acknowledged the administration has no longer met its biggest properly being-care guarantees, they hailed assorted measures as achievements.
They said they've widened secure admission to to cheap insurance protection that would now not meet the properly being-care law’s in vogue and pointed to Congress’s passage last year of a mammoth bipartisan bill to manage with the opioid epidemic that Trump signed into law. In addition they touted a recent rule to extend mark transparency by hospitals and properly being insurers, slated to enter discontinue in January 2021; an initiative to serve kidney care and organ transplantation; adjustments to Medicare that resulted in premiums losing greater than 20 percent in Medicare Merit; an initiative to raze the HIV epidemic by 2030; and a rule that enables employers to pay for their workers’ properly being insurance protection by subsidizing the value of Obamacare particular person market protection that goes into discontinue in January.
“It’s laborious to interchange issues administratively and we were ready to have confidence a astronomical deal, I feel, as properly as lay out a imaginative and prescient of where the Republican Celebration must be on properly being care,” said Brian Blase, damaged-down special assistant to the president for correctly being-care protection.
The president’s defenders and a few administration officials advise the president has modified the conversation around drug pricing by forcing Republicans to chat a few pain they historically ceded to Democrats, and by pressuring pharmaceutical companies to lower some costs, if very finest mercurial, after shaming some of them by name on Twitter. Retail drug costs fell by 1 percent in 2018, a authorities characterize showed, however voters like but to stare predominant adjustments in what they pay at the pharmacy.
That modified conversation has but to search out its plan into drug pricing legislation supported by Republican leadership, on the opposite hand. A bipartisan drug pricing measure that could well perchance cap seniors’ out-of-pocket charges in Medicare, which turned into negotiated by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) and ranking Democrat Ron Wyden (Ore.), looks an increasing number of unlikely, despite the indisputable reality that it is backed by the White Dwelling.
Senate Majority Chief Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has indicated he's going to no longer bring a measure to the ground that doesn’t like the backing of his caucus, a White Dwelling legitimate said. But the legitimate added that Trump has no longer but pushed the bill with McConnell straight.
“If Trump needed to behave on properly being care, he needs to utilize the bully pulpit,” said James Wallner, a damaged-down Republican Senate aide. “He has allies within the Senate, however the verify is why aren’t they advocating for him?”
Caitlin Oakley, a spokeswoman for Azar, said the secretary has talked with diverse lawmakers attempting to rally beef up for legislation to lower properly being-care costs — “a testament to right here's the extra than one drug pricing payments being regarded as on the Hill,” she said.
Additionally stalled amid fierce lobbying by doctors and insurers are congressional efforts to manage with shock clinical billing, that are backed by the White Dwelling as properly.
Officials’ last hope for action sooner than the election rests with the proposal to enable states to import medication from Canada and but every other to heinous the value of some medication in Medicare on the lower costs paid by assorted worldwide locations.
Trump is amazingly desirous to secure out the importation proposal so some voters like secure admission to to more cost effective medication from Canada sooner than the election, according to two officials. But the hassle has been mired in conflicts between the Food and Drug Administration and the HHS secretary’s region of job.
Officials at the FDA, which is to blame for drug safety, balked at the White Dwelling verify for a rule that could well perchance enable mammoth importation. They contend that below existing law, few, if any, medication are eligible for importation in consequence of they must meet strict safety standards and qualify below direct prerequisites, including no longer violating existing U.S. patents.
Trump “doesn’t are attempting to hear anymore that it’s by no diagram going to work,” a senior White Dwelling legitimate said. “He needs to be disruptive.”
The secretary’s region of job is now working to recast the guideline to meet the White Dwelling’s calls for. Azar is “no longer easy the FDA to specialize in importation in unique ways for the indispensable time,” a senior administration legitimate said.
Officials said the guideline will seemingly be willing early next year, though they proceed to be unsure.
Health officials had also drafted a rule making a global pricing index for some Medicare medication administered in hospitals or doctors’ places of work. Below the initial proposal, the USA would pay no greater than 120 percent of the practical mark paid by plenty of assorted worldwide locations. Over the summer, on the opposite hand, Trump demanded it is rewritten in consequence of he did now not desire the USA paying greater than assorted worldwide locations. As officials like labored to meet Trump’s calls for, they said they've encountered technical and beautiful points.
“I must nonetheless be very correct with myself and advise that we could well need extra folks speaking about patient affordability, extra folks speaking about back build and rebates, however we didn’t attain anything,” but every other damaged-down senior administration legitimate said. “There’s nothing there that makes in particular makes me if reality be told feel fancy, ‘Hell yeah, we did this.’ ”

Transportation authorities in London announced today that they would not extend Uber’s taxi operating license, Megan Specia of the NYT reports.• Uber originally lost its London license in 2017 because of safety concerns, but was granted a 15-month extension and then a further two-month extension to improve.• But Transport for London said that the company was not “fit and proper” as a license holder, despite the changes made by Uber. The decision does not immediately remove Uber from the streets. The company has 21 days to appeal — which it says it will do, calling the decision “extraordinary and wrong” — and can continue to operate throughout the process. But it does throw into question Uber’s future in London, which is the company’s biggest European market.
The French luxury giant LVMH will buy Tiffany
LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s largest luxury goods company, announced today that it would buy Tiffany & Company for $16.2 billion. It is the largest deal ever in the luxury sector. The agreement comes after weeks of tense discussions between the two companies, which saw LVMH increase its offer to $135 from $120 per share.LVMH gets a prominent American brand from the deal. It already owns names like Dior, Givenchy, Fendi, Château d’Yquem and Dom Pérignon. It signifies LVMH’s increasing interest beyond traditional luxury softgoods like clothing and leather products, Vanessa Friedman, Elizabeth Paton and Andrew write in the NYT, following its purchase of Bulgari in 2011. And it solidifies the reputation of Bernard Arnault, who controls LVMH, as the most aggressive and acquisitive deal-maker in luxury.• It also ends Tiffany’s 182-year history as a stand-alone brand, and reflects the difficulty of remaining independent in an age of increasing consolidation. The deal will also bolster the efforts of both companies in China, where they are competing to tap into the spending power of newly wealthy Chinese consumers.
Is a ‘Phase 2’ trade deal with China wishful thinking?
President Trump’s stated aim for his administration’s trade negotiations with China is to reach a “Phase 1” agreement that solves some of the biggest issues between the two nations, before diving into talks for a “Phase 2” deal that addresses other disagreements. But according to Reuters, the second part could be a long way off.• “The difficulties in getting the first stage done, combined with the White House’s reluctance to work with other countries to pressure Beijing, are dimming hopes for anything more ambitious in the near future,” Reuters writes, citing unnamed sources.• “Officials in Beijing say they don’t anticipate sitting down to discuss a Phase 2 deal before the U.S. election, in part because they want to wait to see if Trump wins a second term.”The first part of the deal is “easy stuff,” according to Representative Jim Costa, Democrat of California. It’s focused on Chinese commitments to buy agricultural products and roll back tariffs. But the second part includes more complicated issues like industrial espionage, forced transfer of technology and checks to ensure those commitments are upheld. It’s “technically possible, but hard to imagine” a “Phase 2” deal being negotiated in the next year, Josh Kallmer, a former official with the U.S. Trade Representative’s office, told Reuters.More: Mr. Trump said that the Hong Kong protests were a “complicating factor” in trade negotiations. And China said that it would raise penalties on violations of intellectual property rights.
U.S. businesses pull back on investment
In an uncertain business environment, many companies are pulling back on capital investment spending, which could put a damper on economic growth, write Theo Francis and Thomas Gryta in the WSJ.The withdrawal began last fall, when trade tensions created unease among businesses, and continued this year as the global economy showed signs of slowing growth.• “Some companies have warned it could continue into next year, when the presidential and congressional election is expected to add even more uncertainty to business decision-making,” the reporters write.Twelve percent of businesses cut or delayed capital spending in the first half of 2019 because of trade tensions, double the rate in the first half of 2018, the Atlanta Fed found. And spending by S&P 500 companies rose less than 1 percent in the third quarter from the second quarter, according to data from S&P Dow Jones Indices. Some projects have been merely delayed, but others are permanently lost, said Nicholas Bloom, an economist at Stanford University. “I think there is a real long-run cost to U.S. growth,” he said.More: Investors are looking past weak data and trade snags, convinced that actions by central banks and a trade deal will keep stocks moving higher.
Private equity’s lesson from Taylor Swift’s music rights fight
When Taylor Swift invoked Carlyle, one of the world’s biggest private equity firms, in a disagreement about her music rights, she sucked the company’s portfolio managers into a world of deal-making where they feel more than a little uncomfortable, Kate Kelly, Joe Coscarelli and Ben Sisario of the NYT report.• In an open letter, Ms. Swift said that the new owners of her former record company were trying to prevent her from playing her old hits.• Ms. Swift said she was “especially asking for help” in solving the problem from the Carlyle Group, which helped back the music manager Scooter Braun in taking over Ms. Swift’s music catalog, via the acquisition of the record label Big Machine.Carlyle reportedly “moved quickly to encourage a deal between the two sides and urged Mr. Braun to reach out to Ms. Swift,” Ms. Kelly, Mr. Coscarelli and Mr. Sisario write.• People on both sides of the disagreement say that Carlyle’s intervention “has brought the bitter fight closer to a resolution.”• “According to the four people close to the discussions, a deal could take various forms, including a partnership or joint-venture arrangement.”But Ms. Swift is thought to want possession of her master recordings from Big Machine, which could cost her hundreds of millions of dollars. There may be a lesson for Carlyle here. “People in private equity look at music copyrights and think, ‘It’s like real estate,’ but it’s not,” said Matt Pincus, the founder of Songs Music Publishing, which was sold in 2017. “You’re dealing with living, breathing artists.”
Can the web’s inventor also fix it?
Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web 30 years ago. And now he’s started a plan to save it.• He had hoped his invention would be used for “the purpose of serving humanity,” he writes in an NYT Op-Ed.• But “communities are being ripped apart as prejudice, hate and disinformation are peddled online,” while “scammers use the web to steal identities, stalkers use it to harass and intimidate their victims, and bad actors subvert democracy using clever digital tactics,” he adds.So Mr. Berners-Lee has unveiled a Contract for the Web, which he describes as a “global plan of action created over the past year by activists, academics, companies, governments and citizens from across the world to make sure our online world is safe, empowering and genuinely for everyone.”• It asks businesses to ensure that the internet is affordable and accessible, that they respect and protect people’s privacy and personal data, and develop technologies that support the best in humanity.• Of governments, it asks that citizens be allowed to gain access to the internet freely at all times, without fear about how their data is collected and used.“Governments must stop blaming platforms for inaction, and companies must become more constructive in shaping future regulation — not just opposing it,” Mr. Berners-Lee writes.
Revolving door
Maurice Lévy, chairman of the advertising company Publicis, was named as WeWork’s interim chief marketing officer. He said that he initially “rejected the idea.”The accounting firm EY may lay off up to 100 members of its financial consulting unit, after a decline in work and a drop-off in fees from regulatory advice.

Greasing The Gears Of Legal Commerce — Automatic, Systematic, Hydromatic (alt.legal) Innovation
Joe Borstein
Close your eyes and picture a magically perfect legal services market.
In this meritocratic legal-utopia, the best law firm (with the best legal talent, innovative technology, and processes/solutions) wins the work every time. Innovative upstarts take on (and take out) incumbents by taking risks and building a better mousetrap. Law firms clamor for tools that give them an edge (which, in turn, venture capitalists clamor to fund!). In the end, the best law firms (law companies and technologies) win, while clients’ rights and interests are optimally protected at the lowest possible cost… and we all live happily ever after.
Today, Jae Um and I explore what such a world would look like!
Gears Make the World Go Round (Faster)
I asked Jae to help visualize a theory we are calling “The Gears of Commerce.” If you don’t know Jae, shame on you. She’s the newest must-read influencer in legal. While her longform essays speak for themselves, I’ll add that she is also a true expert on all aspects of strategic marketing (from brand and positioning to sales and pricing).
We agreed that it’s not productive to blame Biglaw lawyers (who are smart and hardworking) for the slow pace of legal innovation. Rather, the frustrating pace of progress is a function of the systemwide inefficiency of all commercial activity in our industry which, unfortunately, is visualized below.
To solve these blockages, we need to ask smart questions about how that market actually works and how it can work better. What are the specific cogs and wheels that must click together and rotate in perfect synchronicity?
The Best of All Possible Worlds (With Fine Print, Of Course)
Back to our opening question. How would a more perfect legal market work?
Because both Jae and I are pragmatists, we constrained our thought experiment to reflect the current regulatory environment: (a) law firms remain protected as the only business entity authorized to practice law, and (b) lawyers maintain their monopoly on equity ownership of law firms.
Here’s a simplified flowchart of our ideal state:
CLIENT PROBLEM: clients approach leading law firms (the only organization in the United States who can practice law) with a legal problem, and seek proposals to solve it;
VIRTUOUS CYCLE / SOLUTION DESIGN: law firms weigh the cost and benefits of various courses of action, and propose solutions;
BUY BUILD OR PARTNER: these solutions would include both their legal expertise, AND best-in-class technology, outside services and financing, all of which would be designed to lower costs and risks, and improve legal outcomes;
CLIENT-SIDE BUYING SOPHISTICATION: the law firm with the best proposal would be selected;
FIRM-SIDE EXECUTION: Law firm would serve as general contractor, executing the proposed solution as promised;
COMMERCIAL LOYALTY (NOT JUST <3): if the solution was successful, this strategy would please the client encouraging them to use the law firm more in the future, while also encouraging others clients;
TRUTH IN ADVERTISING: the law firm would advertise their win, and have outsized odds of picking up more like clients;
RIGOROUS REPORTING: the legal media would also pick up the innovative story and speed the adoption of the technologies, services and financing used by the law firm;
SMART CAPITAL: venture capital and strategic buyers would increase investment and acquisition of similar solutions, making them better and better, faster and faster!
RINSE & REPEAT: Well, you get the picture!
The Red Pill: The Real World We Occupy Today
Well, anyone who works at the intersection of law and innovation today knows we are far from this ideal state. In order to grease the gears of commerce, we first have to diagnose the barriers preventing the best of all possible worlds.
We identified three categories of barriers that slow the pace of innovation, each at different points in the go-to-market process: (1) being presented to buyers; (2) being adopted by a critical mass of clients, and; (3) being rewarded by the market.
Failure of Best Solutions Being Presented:
It’s the revenue, stupid! The legal innovation paradox states clearly that solutions that make legal matters more efficient tend to reduce billable hours.
Many innovations reduce the revenue Biglaw will generate on a given matter. Unless Biglaw partners believe they will be rewarded in other ways, this is a disincentive to innovation (think predictive coding for litigation or leveraging AI like Kira or eBrevia for diligence).
You can’t leverage what you don’t know! Most Biglaw attorneys have very little knowledge of the alt.legal landscape. Again, this is NOT because they are dumb or lazy (most are smart and hard working) but because they are busy! Few firms have influential chief innovation officers, or people in other influential roles to serve as trusted curators of institutional knowledge for best-in-breed innovations.
How do you price it? Don’t forget that just a decade ago, nearly everything was handled internally by the law firm (copy fees anyone?). You can’t blame Biglaw partners for not knowing how to price the subcontracting of predictive coding technology or legal process outsourcing teams in ways that are fair and profitable.
Failure of Best Solutions Being Adopted:
Next, even if innovations are presented, there are barriers to adoption by clients.
Have you tried contracting with a Fortune 500? It’s hard… very hard… and very slow. Often, a major company doesn’t want to try the newest thing at all. Surprised? Geoffrey Moore of Crossing the Chasm tells us that only about 16 percent of people seek novelty; the rest of us prefer to shop for established, reliable products we know will work.
Cost savings are not always a priority, and they’re certainly not the only priority. While “more for less” has been the rallying cry of corporate counsel since the Great Reset of 2009, legal procurement simply isn’t a one-size-fits-all proposition. For many big-ticket, high-consequence items, white shoe firms will tell you that their clients simply want everything done perfectly, and that clients truly don’t care about cost. The latest Altman Weil Chief Legal Officer Survey tells us that the white shoe firms are neither dumb nor deluded in this view: CLOs indicated that nearly 25 percent of outside counsel fees are “price-insensitive.” (Consider that a typical bet-the-company litigation or major merger dwarfs even the astronomical fees of elite Biglaw firms to a rounding error.)
There is often a light form of capture, where in-house counsel want to be brought back into Biglaw as a partner (or at least be invited to their sweet parties!). Indirectly or subliminally, some senior counsel do balance incentives between squeezing Biglaw for discounts and protecting the long-term relationship.
Failure of Best Solutions Being Rewarded:
Finally, if a tree falls in the forest, and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?
Biglaw partners correctly surmise that there will be little marketing, media or fanfare in response to innovative solutions — even better, cheaper, and faster results. Thus, there is no guarantee they will pick up new clients by being better (sad).
Furthermore, the bigger the matter, the less likely it is to recur — so the firm might not even get materially more work from THAT particular client.
Without a guarantee of effective and meaningful storytelling from the very top of the marketing funnel to the point of sale, the proposition is to perform all this extra work and take on all this extra risk… at the expense of current revenue!
In the current state, the primary pitfalls in the marketing cycle are:
Advertising in legal doesn’t work well and is highly regulated!
Media doesn’t always cover the HOW behind major innovation wins.
Word of mouth is limited in legal and very, very slow.
Despite the ongoing and increasing interest in legal innovation as a whole, the aggregate volume of hype often results in meaningful signals getting lost in the noise.
So. What Do We Do About It?
As we enter 2019, it is my commitment to cover in these pages the lawyers, companies and innovators working to make these gears turn faster. Stay tuned, and thanks Jae!

constitutional crisis
This morning, I received an email from an old friend — one of the country’s top trial lawyers: “I have underestimated Trump. He knows what is coming, including a variety of criminal charges and other impeachable offenses. He is not just arousing his base to anger but to arms, some of them. There is no other way to explain the transgender ban, the Arpaio pardon, his Charlottesville remarks…
“I would think he will pardon himself, family members, Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort, among others, and if he is angry enough, Mrs. O’Leary, who, you must admit, got kind of a raw deal.” [Note: Myth has it that one Kate O’Leary’s cow kicked over a lantern in the barn and started the Great Chicago Fire of l871. She was widely blamed but never charged.]
And the following came from the journalist and author Charles Kaiser. His books include Gay Metropolis, 1968 in America, and The Cost of Courage, a riveting account of one family that joined the French resistance against the Nazi occupation.
— Bill Moyers
Donald Trump’s pardon of Sheriff Joe Arpaio marks the real beginning of the coming constitutional crisis in America.
Trump started tweeting trial balloons about this a month ago — “all agree the US president has the complete power to pardon” — and he has even asserted the unlitigated idea that he can pardon himself. But what he did yesterday puts his presidency on a whole new plane: a Category 5 political hurricane. By pardoning a man convicted of criminal contempt for direct violation of a federal order, Trump is now flaunting his eagerness to overturn the rule of law in America.
While all agree the U. S. President has the complete power to pardon, why think of that when only crime so far is LEAKS against us.FAKE NEWS

I have never seen anyone who has acted more obviously guilty than Donald Trump has almost every single day since he became president. From his tête-à-tête with James Comey, in which he asked the FBI director to end his investigation of Michael Flynn, to his firing of the same man when he failed to heed that warning, to his newly-reported phone call to Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) to complain about a bill that would protect special counsel Robert Mueller’s independence, the president has engaged in one blatant attempt to obstruct justice after another.
Here is the most logical way to view his pardon of Sheriff Arpaio: It is the latest and gravest step he has taken in his continuing efforts to undermine the rule of law. Obviously Trump delighted in fueling the racism of Arpaio’s supporters by pardoning this convicted criminal — he made that clear earlier this week during his repellent speech in Phoenix. But I am certain that is not the main reason for this heinous act.
For many weeks, Washington has been swirling with rumors that Mueller already has secured the cooperation of Michael Flynn and Paul Manafort in his investigation of the president. And Trump undoubtedly is more vulnerable to the testimony of these two men than he is to that of any other players in this fearful drama. Therefore, Trump must feel compelled to send this message through Arpaio’s pardon: The president is eager and willing to do the same thing for anyone who might be pressured into testifying against him.
I have a written a book about France under fascism, and what we are now experiencing is exactly what incipient fascism looks like. The combination of Trump’s relentless assaults on the free press, his open encouragement of Nazis — which is the only honest description of his initial refusal to condemn them — and now a pardon without even pretending to go through the normal channels of the Justice Department: These are all the acts of man who is blatantly defying his sacred pledge to uphold the Constitution of the United States.
Like the men and women of Vichy France who began their collaboration with the Nazis seventy-seven years ago, from now on, every senator and House member of either party who continues to remain silent about this president’s unconstitutional acts is directly complicit in the high crimes and misdemeanors of Donald Trump.
I know very serious students of American justice who already were convinced last night that the pardon of Arpaio has fatally undermined Robert Mueller’s investigation by killing the incentive for anyone to testify against this president. Personally, I am not yet that pessimistic. I still believe that any pardon of Flynn or Manafort or Jared Kushner will produce a large enough firestorm to end Donald Trump’s presidency, either through impeachment or the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, which would allow his removal by a majority vote of his cabinet.
But if there is a majority of Republican senators and House members who wish to avoid a full-blown constitutional crisis worse than anything we have seen since the secession of the Confederate states, they must speak loudly and act clearly right now. They must immediately pass the bill introduced by Democratic Senator Chris Coons of Delaware and Republican Senator Tillis of North Carolina that would shore up the independence of the special prosecutor, and they must pass it with veto-proof majorities.
Senator Lindsay Graham already has said that the firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions would mean the beginning of the end of Trump’s presidency. It is long past time for all of Graham’s colleagues in both houses to declare that the same thing will be true if the president dares to repeat the horrific abuse of his pardon power that we witnessed last night. Otherwise, America is destined for an era of violence and darkness unlike any we have ever witnessed since the end of the Civil War, one hundred and fifty-two years ago.

Best health Trump, Congress square off over virus aid as crisis worsens
Best health
WASHINGTON — The designate for the next COVID-19 support equipment also can rapidly swell above $1 trillion as White House officials negotiate with Congress over cash to reopen colleges, prop up limited corporations, enhance virus attempting out and preserve cash flowing to American citizens while the virus crisis deepens within the U.S.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday promised a weird spherical of recount funds to earners below a particular earnings level, a lot just like the $1,200 checks despatched within the spring. President Donald Trump insists on a payroll tax vacation for workers. And Democrats favor billions to outfit colleges and shore up native governments.
“Regretfully, right here is no longer over,” McConnell acknowledged after a raucous private GOP lunch, urging American citizens to be taught to live with the unusual virus by carrying masks and practicing social distancing till a vaccine will be found.
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and acting chief of staff Notice Meadows spent the day on Capitol Hill, assembly individually with McConnell, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others attempting to broker a compromise between the GOP’s emerging $1 trillion proposal with the House’s more sweeping $3 trillion invoice.
The lunch session grew heated as key Republican senators complained about gigantic spending, vowing to stall the reduction invoice’s passage.
Supporters of the equipment “also can nonetheless be ashamed of themselves,” Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky acknowledged as he emerged.
Paul when compared GOP backers of the spending to “Bernie bros” — relating to the younger supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont. “Here is insane. … There’s no incompatibility now between the two events.”
As a protracted line of senators rose to focus on aspects of the invoice, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz requested his colleagues, “What within the hell are we doing?”
Cruz warned if the economy is nonetheless shut down come November, Joe Biden will resolve the White House, Democrats will adjust the Senate and “we’ll be assembly in a chief smaller lunch room,” according to a particular person granted anonymity to talk in regards to the closed-door session.
Sen. Rick Scott of Florida left announcing it’s immoral to “bail out” cash-strapped states. “Florida taxpayers are no longer going to pay for New York’s costs,” he acknowledged.
With the pandemic exhibiting no signs of easing, officials acknowledge the daunting philosophize of attempting to salvage the coronavirus and prevent additional financial wound. The U.S. has rising infections and a demise toll nearing 142,000, better than anywhere else on this planet. The health crisis is worsening precise as emergency support is set to speed out.
Meadows told newshounds the president wants to guarantee the funding equipment “meets the reliable needs that are earlier than the American folks.”
Democratic leaders acknowledged the Republicans are in disarray, and Pelosi later blamed the pandemic’s mounting toll on the president’s philosophize of being inactive.
“It is the Trump virus,” she acknowledged on CNN.
The Republicans are poised to roll out a $1 trillion equipment, what McConnell known as a “starting up level” in talks. It is a counter-offer to Pelosi’s $3 trillion House-passed idea as they speed to strike a deal by the end of the month. That is when a $600 weekly unemployment advantages enhance and other support, including a federal condo moratorium on hundreds and hundreds of apartment items, expires.
McConnell’s equipment would send a new spherical of recount cash funds to American citizens below a particular earnings level, most likely $75,000 for singles, lengthen limited industrial loans below the Paycheck Safety Program and assemble a 5-year liability defend in opposition to what he warns is a doable “epidemic” of coronavirus complaints.
It is moreover expected to incorporate at the least $105 billion for education, with $70 billion to support Ok-12 colleges reopen, $30 billion for colleges and $5 billion for governors to allocate. The Trump administration wanted college cash linked to reopenings, but in McConnell’s equipment the cash for Ok-12 could be damage up 50-50 between folks that delight in in-particular person studying and folks that assemble no longer.
Republicans must change the $600 weekly federal jobless earnings with a lower amount, to prevent the unemployed from receiving more support than they’d thru a customary paycheck, Republicans acknowledged.
Over lunch, Mnuchin defined the unemployment enhance also can presumably be phased all the design in which down to a percentage of a employee’s old earnings, according to a Republican granted anonymity to talk in regards to the private assembly. Some Republicans take merely removing the $600 earnings.
Nonetheless the president’s priorities are splitting his GOP allies and giving momentum to Democrats.
Trump wants a corpulent repeal of the 15.3% payroll tax, which is shared amongst employers and staff, and funds Social Security and Medicare. Specialists bellow that on my own would cost $600 billion. At a White House assembly on Monday, GOP leaders told Trump they most smartly-favored to incorporate most productive a partial payroll tax slice lend a hand.
Easing the payroll tax is dividing Trump’s occasion on account of it does limited to support out-of-work American citizens and adds to the debt load. The tax is already being deferred for employers below the old virus reduction equipment. Supporters bellow cutting back it now for workers would attach cash in folks’s pockets and stimulate the economy.
The administration moreover panned McConnell’s proposed $25 billion for more virus attempting out, announcing earlier allotments live unspent.
White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany acknowledged Tuesday the administration wants “focused” funds for the next spherical of support, in preference to adding more to the present pot. She acknowledged no one is keeping it up.
Senate Democrats started investigating why the Trump administration has left nearly half the attempting out cash unspent.
After assembly with Mnuchin, Pelosi and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer acknowledged Republicans must stop stalling. They broadly dismissed the emerging GOP effort as insufficient.
The political stakes are high for both events earlier than the November election, and heaps more so for the nation, as amid the virus crisis and financial fallout.
Biden, the Democrats’ presumed presidential nominee, acknowledged his have priorities, urging “a lifeline to folks who need it most: working households and limited corporations.”
Trump’s renewed level of curiosity on therapeutics and a vaccine is falling flat amongst lawmakers who perceive that any COVID-19 treatments live months, if no longer a year, from standard distribution within the U.S. The federal authorities is nonetheless struggling to present standard scientific offers and non-public protective equipment to health care providers.
Mnuchin vowed to survive Capitol Hill for the next two weeks, certain to save a deal by month’s end.
The proposed virus support equipment regularly is the fifth, following the $2.2 trillion invoice passed in March, the largest U.S. intervention of its kind. The jobless price has remained in double digits, higher than within the closing decade’s Enormous Recession, and a federal eviction moratorium on hundreds and hundreds of condo items permitted within the closing invoice is set to speed out.

""I totaled my month old car with only liability insurance, do I still HAVE to pay off the car?""
i just got a '01 explorer from a dealer less than a month ago, two days ago i rolled it, now its totaled. i only have LIABILITY insurance, and the insurance company said i have to pay off the rest of the car, which i expected, but when i called the dealer she said she might be able to count the car as a total loss, and get me in another car from them, without paying for the old one anymore. she is going to let me know in a couple days if they can. is this possible to just somehow avoid all the payments on the old car and start over new? are they scared i would end up not paying them for a car i dont have, so they somehow write it off and start a new payment plan on a whole new car? Will they try to get me in a new car and pile on my old car payments with new ones? when they call back should i act like i wont pay on that car to persuade them to write that totaled car off ? i dont know what to do, i cant afford two car payments and now im carless bumming rides which i cant do for long. The reason i am asking before the lady gets back to me is: its a dealer, and im pretty inexperienced with this, and i just want to know how this all works so i know how to talk to and possibly negotiate with the dealer before i end up missing (or screwing up) an opportunity before its too late""

Sued for Auto Accident Above Insurance Limit in NJ?
One year ago my wife was taking our daughter to pre-school turning left out the end of our road in to traffic, this road has a speed limit of 35 mph. Traffic had to stop to let her cross the first lane since it was solid cars, vans and small trucks. As she approached half-way, before getting a good view of oncoming traffic, another car took off the front bumper. Note that the center line is interuppted at the cross-junction. The bumper was torn from the front of the car with damage more evident on the non-impact side of the car than where initially hit, hence my wife had not initiated a turn, just edging forward to see. The radiator was in-tact, but damaged, still mounted to the front of the car. I walked to the site with our other child and took my daughter home; she is fine and I took her to school but still talks of the incident today. My wife stayed at the incident, and was fine (no later issues) keeping real calm and cooperating with police. It took about 2 hrs with police debating which town the incident took place (middle of the road is the divide) and the other driver was concerned about getting home to take a pot off the stove, but seemed medically fine. The driver asked me and the police to drive them home to get the pot off the stove and used my wifes cell phone more than once. They also wanted to drive their car home and leave the scene with a flat tire at one point I presume to attend to the pot. No tickets were issued, no air bags deployed. The other car had a flat front left tire and side damage so the drivers door was stuck shut. Both cars were old, so written off. Over a year later we received a court summons from their attorney and we are being sued for $750,000. Our limit is $100,000 on insurance. The plaintiff is claiming herniated discs and loss of bowel control. We have a 2006 no money down mortgage, so total equity is very much in the red since our home value plummeted. I have no umbrella policy. I am sole income, but was owner of the car my wife was driving. My wife is stay-at-home mom. The remaining $650,000 would be a big problem. Interestingly, we heard that the other driver called our insurance and asked for a >100-fold lower amount of money to just go away! Our insurer recalls this very clearly and did not pay. Questions: Should I invest in an attorney to work with our insurers attorney to cover the $650K over our limit? Do we have any case given the car the other driver may have been in a rush (as all were aware of the pot on the stove), would have settled for far less, and in reported safety tests should avoid an obstacle at 55mph let alone at the speed limit of 35 mph? Their case, as I understand, is to actually prove my wife was negligent, she was just trying to see. Reality and the law are complicated I understand. Our insurer is looking in to the validity of their medical claims. I believe for spinal and neck injuries plaintiffs have to follow careful insurance approved treatment plans in NJ. I know that such a condition may not be permanent with curative surgery possible to release the nerves that may be causing the bowel issue. The plaintiff has claimed the injury as permanent, do they need to prove this? Should we ask experts? The plaintiff lives in our town and their house is on my running route every other day. I have not noted anything at all and plan to stay away from all other parties. Should I change my running route? Thanks for any advice. Our 30 day clock is ticking.""

But my question is this - I know that I will be able to drive my Dad's car since I'm on his policy, but realistically, I would want to be able to drive both cars (and I would likely be using the Caravan more often anyway). Once I get my license, do I have to be listed on both insurance policies to drive both cars? If I wasn't and got in an accident with the Dodge, would I be covered?""

Driving without car insurance?
So, Im broke and I know its a really awful idea to drive without car insurance, but Im a little unclear about what the rules actually are. I know it is illegal to drive without car insurance b/c I got a ticket for it once when I just didnt have my proof of insurance with me, but it was a pretty small fine, is that the only legal consequence of it? I'm a pretty good driver, no accidents so far (knock on wood), and if I were to get into an accident it would probably not be my fault. Is it true if you get in a car accident without car insurance and its not your fault then you are still financially responsible for the damages to your car? ...Like because you dont have insurance the other drivers insurance doesnt acknowledge the accident or something? Anyway, as of 10 min from now my insurance policy will expire and im tempted to not get new insurance for a month or so until im more financially stable. What are the consequences im missing? Anyone know of really cheap insurance? other thoughts? My loan is through a credit union, what may be the consequences if they find out?""

When Communicating, oversights Folks Produce.
The only genuine solution genuine status spending oversights corresponds action! Even when the parts seem to suit, there are going to be identifiable sign that an oversight was helped make after steering the auto. You are in for a world of hurt as you attempt to obtain your financial life back in order if you don't capture identification fraud troubles early. If you have any kind of questions concerning where and how you can utilize yellow pages uk contact number (sano-obiettivipervoi.info), you can contact us at our own internet site. However, that's certainly not the mistakes that our company create that determine us; that is actually how our team prefer to get the parts of our lifestyles after these oversights as well as go on. This was claimed that Cullinan created the mistake after getting sidetracked when he twittered update a picture, which has actually considering that been removed, of Emma Stone after she gained Finest Actress at 9:05 pm - simply moments prior to the very best Photo blunder. The most effective sort of oversight is where the costs are actually low however the understanding is actually higher," Schoemaker mentions. There are actually disastrous mistakes that damage an idea; yet there are actually also dependent ones, which serve in testing the stability of a concept. Your upcoming action is actually to view exactly what you need to have to perform in purchase to patch traits up and correct your mistake when you have actually made your apologies to the others involved. That is actually the actual reason that blunders harm, to ensure we carry out learn from all of them as well as do not make them consistently. Although every person miscalculates now and again, satisfy perform certainly not undervalue the significance from right sentence structure. You created the mistake merely because you found on your own in a posture in which your opinion concerning a field was being challenged as well as you were actually experiencing the unpleasant setting from must accept that you mistook. Massage mistakes feature errors in stress, or not checking in with the client regarding his/her convenience. I will certainly outline the significant ones to ensure if you are actually taking on the task to put in marble flooring tiles you possess an opportunity certainly not to create the usual blunders from the beginning. You as well as your kids may enjoy this movie without worry of uncomfortable as well as unwanted waste originated in sensationalism for ratings and piggishness. . The initial step in mistake proofing is actually to figure out the kind of inaccuracy, or even mistakes, that induced the defect. To mistake A for B → A mit B verwechseln, A für B halten; that can certainly not potentially be confused for just about anything else → das ist doch unverkennbar!, das kann man doch gar nicht verwechseln! An error, as it appears to me, is actually none the less an oversight considering that it is created intentionally in the search from a wrong intention. Eventually, the last big blunder that several females bring in is actually overcomplicating their course. The eradication from error-prone intervene a process is yet another strategy of blunder proofing. Still, this is actually not where most identifications are actually taken and also it is actually a substantial error to think that only shielding your very own things may make a significant distinction in your identification fraud danger. By that time that was essentially inconceivable for me to discover the identity and area of the pet owner so I must decline the situation (which I thought had a settlement market value of a minimum of $50,000 to $75,000). One more popular error brought in by those that are attempting to enhance their appearance is actually thinking that they have to possess the simplest. The following blunder a ton of individuals create is actually that they do not offer on their own the consent to be which they wish to be actually. A lot of folks have desires concerning which they want to be actually and they may also stand in front end of the mirror and envision being actually a soft as well as really awesome person at times, I think this will be rather sure to claim that just about everyone has actually fantasized about a circumstance where they dealt with everything wonderfully and conserved the time. You could likewise listen to files that will prove only how resourceful these identification thieves have become that they even utilize innovation to easily acquire private details easily. Otherwise, if the criminal accused could confirm that the blunder sensibly voided a component from the crime, the protection will often be actually held to administer and discharge the accused from liability. After that is throughout, as silly an other as I am actually can easily observe that mistakes were actually helped make. The very first thing to do after producing an error is to approve duty for it. Some individuals create the oversight from refusing accountability and also lose time positioning blame on others. You will definitely be actually amazed through how promptly you respond to errors in the future as well as your capacity to stay clear of comparable scenarios completely. When you look for as many traits as you could to become happy for in an error, you amazingly change the oversight into blessings. While some musicians may state that this had them a lifetime to obtain their quest from being actually a professional within this industry, a frequent Joe may in fact discover that easier learning to play piano due to the resources offered today and with the present modern technology. Rather than squandering your time dealing with that produced the mistake or even that is very most accountable, check out the scenario as a whole and find how you can easily modify it right. At that point you will certainly not see oversights on your profile that could possibly be costing you a whole lot of funds, if you do not look at your statements effectively. BLUNDER 7: Having actually obsoleted information- Making an excellent web site is actually not the end of job, when this comes to search engine optimization. Purchasing traits that colleagues possess is actually an additional popular error made through folks which are actually aiming to enhance their appeal, specifically their professionalism and trust at work. Music Licensing For Film makes sure that these seemingly unfamiliar yet gifted entertainers receive noticed and they can easily move toward producers which might be capable to offer an effective direction to their profession. Getting the capability to stop dwelling on your oversights will create you much more successful, will certainly enhance your confidence, and also will certainly make you more pleased. The top error supervisors make-and since it is essentially unconscious that is necessary to become compassionate with our own selves as well as each other-is to not become aware of, combine, take, as well as own your very own authority. Nonetheless, this is actually simply compounding the error you've created in doubling up on a dropping business by promoting you do the very same trait upcoming opportunity you remain in this placement. Paradoxically, a lot of the mistakes that mamas as well as fathers create are actually mistakes helped make in an attempt to obtain an unethical advantage. Anyone which has ever possessed the courage to head out into the world as well as perform one thing recognizes there are only 2 type of mistakes: ones we could recuperate from as well as ones our company may not recover coming from. To discover the best services to blunders when putting up marble floor tiles stated in this particular article, you can possibly do therefore here. And also consistently, ONE HUNDRED% of the time, I made the inspection costs back in renegotiations along with the resident. That is regularly sensible to figure out and also correct the errors right before the ultimate represent the year are actually made.

Hi to all -
Washington DC
A man drove his car into two Capitol Police Officers, and then crashed into the barricades. One officer was killed, and the other injured. The driver of the car got out of his car, and tried to attack the officers with a knife. In the ensuing struggle, the man was killed.
In true leftist fashion, the democrats raced for their soap boxes, calling out 'white supremacists', 'insurrectionists' and all the usual divisive stuff, plus the now boring calls for gun control (what part of the knife do the bullets come out of). Then, police released the name of the driver - Noah Green. But, wiat, as they say on TV, there is more!! Noah is not white, nor an insurrectionist, nor a conservative Trump supporter, etc. etc. Nope. He is black, and a Muslim, and a faithful follower of Louis Farakhan, leader of the Nation of Islam, which Noah seems to think represents the salvation of mankind, according to his social media posts. Noah was also unemployed, having a tough time, and needed someone to blame for all that.
Soon as that was public, all the democrats slithered off their soap boxes and back under the rocks they came out from. But, they did give a parting shot that this means that we need more walls around more government facilities, to protect them from us.
Georgia
The state overwhelmingly approved a new voter law. Democrats are up in arms! It will prevent 200,000 black people from voting, since they do not have ID. Why, even President Biden claimed that this was the new Jim Crow - falsely, as it turns out. But, hey, Joe may not have been lying. He is so far gone that he just reads the script in front of him, as best he can. He really does not know what he is saying, or where he is, or why he is there. Oddly, he did not call for any boycott on China, over their abuse of citizens.
Okay, I have worked as an [State of Georgia] election official for a number of years. This law does not represent a lot of change. In fact, it adds more chances for people to vote. Showing an ID is not new, it has been the law for many years in Georgia. But, this new law closes a loophole exploited by democrats in the last election, concerning absentee ballots. Before, there was a signature match required - but ignored during the last election. Now, the voter must provide something like the license number or other ID to verify that they are the actual person planning to vote. And, a driver's license is not the only form of ID that can be used. We have a page of valid ID types, even down to current utility bills, etc. that are acceptable.
But, drop boxes will get more protection and safety for your votes, and there may be a couple more days added to vote in person. All the hype you see on this is, what is that term??? Oh, yes, LIES.
But, Stacy Abrams and her crew, who imported many voters from out of state (yes, we met some of them during the elections), and led the battle to end ID checks or verification of absentee ballots, etc. is not happy. So, she joins other democrats in waging economic warfare against the state. Trying to cut federal funds, and 'encouraging' business to stop working in Georgia. Two of the high profile examples are: Delta Airlines, based in Atlanta; and the MLB.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian, dutifully got up and quoted the party line that ID requirements are 'unacceptable'. Now, I worked at the airport for years, and I can tell you that you do not work for Delta, travel on Delta, or walk around the airport without photo ID. You will certainly not get on one of their airplanes. Can you say 'hypocrisy' boys and girls? Sure you can. The Georgia legislature responded by eliminating the millions of dollars in tax breaks that they give to Delta. So, their decision will actually cost them money, a lot of money.
The MLB is so angry about ID that they pulled the All-Star game from Georgia, and went off in a huff. Yet, you do not do business with them sans ID, now do you?
Know all this for what it is: economic warfare to force political concessions.
KFC
When I worked at the airport, I sometimes met the man who portrayed Colonel Sanders. He traveled to events, representing the company. And, he looked like he had just stepped off the box - white suit, goatee, gold topped cane, etc. He was a wonderful gentleman, and quite the attraction. Well, if Biden forces in the $15/wage, the Colonel may be out of a job. KFC says it will replace him with Bernie Sanders, socialist hero. The fun never ends.
CNN
As part of the quest by the left to take over the government, totally and forever, CNN (acting as spokesperson for the real players) has proposed linking vaccine passports to other freedoms, especially freedom to travel. See, you already knew that this was not about your health, but about having a means to control you. Don't let her title fool you, Dr. Reanna Wen is not giving you medical advice, but obeying her real masters.
Arkansas
Here is a happy note. That state just passed a law saying that they will NOT comply with any federal law that interferes in any way with the Second Amendment. No federal officers will be allowed to confiscate guns in their state.
