Some even even more little descendants incorrect quotes with mostly Glassheart/CharmingHeart
(and other ships)
Chad: Adulting is hard.
Chad: How do I quit?
Chloe: Time travel.
Red: Die.
(sheesh. Also CHAD! HIII)
---
Chad: So you’re dating Chloe?
Red: What? No! I’m just buying them an accessory since they have terrible fashion sense.
Chad: That’s literally a wedding ring.
(To be fair. Maybe they don't have wedding rings in wonderland, and Red is genuinely just buying her accessories. But not because Chloe doesn't have style. She just wants to give Chloe stuff.)
---
Cinderella: Red, when’s your birthday?
Red: Why? So you can look up my natal chart? So you can figure out my weaknesses? So you can destroy me?
Chloe: …So we know when to wish you a happy birthday.
+
Chloe: You have some serious intimacy issues
(canon)
---
Chloe: You know, I really wish you’d just admit you made a mistake sometimes.
Chad, stirring their coffee: I prefer it with salt.
(he would never admit he's wrong. He'd just word his way around it)
---
Chloe: How stupid do you think I am?!
Dizzy: You really want an honest answer to that?
(Chloe is oblivious to her attraction to Red. Their fighting is actually flirting)
---
Chad: If you don't stop talking, I'm going to jump out of that window.
Chloe: ...We're on the ground floor.
Chad: I know but I want a dramatic exit.
(Go off drama king ✨)
---
Chad: Ow!
Dizzy: What’s wrong?
Chad: I have this weird pain right above my eyebrow.
Dizzy: It’s called a stress headache. I got my first one when I was four.
(canon. Also oof)
---
Computer: Please enter a password.
Chad: *types in Chloe*
Computer: Your password is too weak.
Chad: How fucking DARE YOU-
(Slay big brother. He knows what's up)
---
Audrey: Hey!
Chad: What do you want?
Audrey: Remember what we were talking about yesterday?
Chad: Nope.
(Yes king. Stand your ground. keep away from her)
---
Audrey: I'm not mean. Name one mean thing I’ve ever done.
Chad: When we were younger, you convinced me eggs weren't real.
Audrey: They're not.
Chad: Haha, very funny.
Audrey: I'm serious. Didn't you hear?
Chad: No... what happened?
Audrey: ...Why would you fall for this again-
(I think that's what they were talking about. And he's mad)
---
*The gang's thoughts on stabbing*
Audrey: Would never stab anyone.
Chloe: Would stab someone in retaliation.
Dizzy: Yells "I won't hesitate, bitch!" first.
Celia: Would stab without warning.
Red: Would stab as a warning.
+
Chad: It depends, I guess
(the charming siblings +cousin and their girlfriends)
---
Chloe, singing: I don’t want a lot for Christmas, there is just one thing I need—
Red: A family.
Audrey: A better love life.
Celia: Mental stability.
Dizzy: Money
Chad: *clueless* Bagels?
(... yeah-)
---
Chloe: Go to hell!
Red: Where do you think I come from?
(Wonderland basically is Hell with The Queen of Hearts)
---
Dizzy: You got a date yet Celia?
Celia: No...
Dizzy: Well you do now! Get your ass up and hold my hand!
(Slay ✨🙏. Which I had that confidence)
---
Dizzy: Hey Chloe, wanna third wheel on my date with Celia tomorrow?
Chloe: Sure.
Dizzy: Red! Wanna third wheel on my date with Celia tomorrow?
Red: ..sure, I gues-
Dizzy: Great! I've always wanted to go on a double date!
Red & Chloe: ...
Chloe: Dizzy...
(You'll thank her later, Chloe.)
---
Dizzy: I honestly feel like some of our conversations here are almost word-for-word accurate to the generator.
Celia: Yup.
Red: Maybe the generator is watching us.
Chloe: Wouldn't that imply this conversation will be added?
Dizzy: ...
Dizzy: Wait—
(Oh no. They found out! Got to run!)
---
Hope you liked it!
I ship Chad and Audrey as Exes
Also I want Chad and Chloe interactions in the next movie. Would love it if Dizzy was also there.
Anyway
Byeeee

Steve loves Valentine’s Day.
It’s a holiday celebrating love and romance; the whole point is to shower someone with affection (and hopefully get laid at the end of the night). What’s not to like about that?
With girls, Valentine’s was easy. Big box of chocolates, a dozen red roses, dinner at a fancy restaurant (and maybe a little jewelry or something - depending on how much he likes her). A sweet card, for sure.
Now that he’s dating Eddie, Valentine’s Day presents more of a… challenge.
“Ugh, what am I gonna do Rob? We walked through the greeting card aisle at Melvald’s and he pretended to puke. He doesn’t want flowers or chocolate or anything.”
He knows he’s whining. He’s slumped dramatically in the single office chair in the Family Video breakroom, spinning slowly (like a pathetic little rotisserie chicken, according to Robin). He’s probably got about five more minutes before Robin snaps.
“Why do you have to do anything? You know Valentine’s Day isn’t even a real holiday – it’s just an excuse to get people to spend money on crap they don’t need…”
“Oh my god, stop! You sound just like Eddie. Valentine's isn't about spending money, it's about... showing people that you love them. Making them feel happy and appreciated and special. It’s about celebrating love.”
Robin tilts her head and her face goes a little soft, the way it does when he says something she wasn't expecting (but in a good way, not like when he says something so dumb that her body collapses and she says he's obliterated her will to live).
"That’s actually surprisingly sweet Steve. Okay….” she sighs and looks up at the ceiling as she thinks. “Maybe... you could try making something? He liked those cookies you baked for movie night."
“Those cookies were terrible.” Practically inedible. Eddie was the only person that ate more than one. (Which was either a true declaration of love in and of itself, or proof that Eddie will eat literally anything when he's stoned.)
"I don't know, Eddie is pretty easy to please. You could give him like... a cool rock, and he would probably love it."
Steve sits upright so fast he nearly overturns the chair. "Robin, you're a genius!!"
She blinks at him. "Clearly. But also, why exactly?"
Eddie is like a crow. He's forever picking up little odds and ends - cool rocks, stickers, shiny bits of paper. At Christmas, he collected the bows off of everyone's presents. Sometimes, he incorporates the stuff he finds into little props and models for his D&D games, but other times he just keeps it. He's got a whole drawer devoted to his little 'hoard', as he calls it.
Steve explains all this to Robin, who just shakes her head in bemusement. "He is so weird," she says fondly.
"Yeah," Steve agrees. He would have recoiled from that oddity in high school - would have been worried what other people would think. Scared they would judge him for associating with someone like that.
He doesn’t give a shit, these days. He sees the way Eddie lights up with happiness at the smallest things, so full of excitement and passion, and it just makes him smile. He feels grateful that he gets to bask in that reflected joy, like a flower soaking up the sun.
Valentines is two weeks away, which gives Steve plenty of time to collect a bounty of little treasures. He hits the pawn shop, the thrift store - he even drives out to the weird antique shop about an hour out of town, which looks like a normal house on the outside and is crammed to the rafters with knick-knacks and bric-a-brac when you walk inside.
He also trawls the quarry, the lake, and the woods behind his house. It's tough, because usually Eddie's little treasures just look like trash to Steve. He's not a very creative person himself, but he tries hard to see the world the way his boyfriend would.
If that means Steve finds himself debating for over half an hour on which rock is more appealing, well – it will all be worth it in the end.
———
Steve stays over at Eddie's, the night before Valentines. (At this point, he spends more time at the Munson's house than he does at his own.)
He wakes up early, slipping out of bed with slow, careful movements. As usual, Eddie rolls over with a faint grumble, bundling himself into a burrito of blankets to compensate for the void of warmth left by Steve's absence.
He moves down the hall, avoiding each creaky board like it's a booby trap in the Temple of Doom, until he reaches the kitchen - which is where Steve breaks routine. He sneaks out the back door and races across the driveway in his boxers, hopping and cursing as the frigid gravel stings his bare feet.
His carefully cultivated stash of gifts is in the glove compartment of the BMW. He already has a plan for which one will be first, so he grabs it and closes the door (slowly, slowly - the sound of Steve moving around the house is familiar, but a car door slamming in the driveway at this time of morning would wake Eddie for sure).
The first gift is a blue jay feather he found in the woods, perfect and clean with vivid blue and black stripes. He tucks it carefully under the edge of the ash tray that sits on the porch railing, before slipping back inside to start breakfast.
Thirty minutes later Eddie appears, drawn by the warm smell of coffee and the sound of bacon popping in the pan.
He drapes himself over Steve's back and murmurs, "G'mornin," sleepily into the shell of his ear, the way he does every morning after Steve spends the night. This time, Steve balances his spatula on the edge of the pan and turns so that he can wrap his arms around his boyfriend’s waist.
He presses a cheerful kiss to the corner of Eddie's mouth and says, "Happy Valentine’s Day."
Eddie groans dramatically and throws his head back, the rest of his bodyweight following. If Steve didn't have a firm grip around his waist, he would have toppled over backward; the move turns into an awkward backbend instead.
"Stevie please, it's too early for that crap. Wait until I've had my coffee at least."
Steve grins. He releases his hold just long enough for Eddie to yelp and scrabble for balance before catching him and pulling him close again.
"Jesus Christ," Eddie gasps.
"Careful," Steve says with a smug grin, laughing when Eddie shoves him in the chest and pulls away.
They eat breakfast together, and then Steve follows Eddie outside for his morning cigarette.
"Holy shit, look at this!" Eddie turns to Steve with the blue jay feather pinched between his fingers, grinning with delight. He hasn't brushed his hair yet and he's got a smear of bacon grease on his cheek, but he's so beautiful in that moment - so full of joy it shines out of him, like a lighthouse.
Just because he found a feather. Steve smiles back, helplessly besotted. "Pretty cool."
Eddie twirls the feather between his fingers before tucking it behind his ear. “That’s a sign that today is gonna be a good day.”
Steve presses his mouth to the edge of his coffee cup to hide his expression. “Yeah, I think so too.”
———
Eddie rolls into the Family Video parking lot around 2 in the afternoon to visit before his band practice. He strolls inside and leans against the counter, plonking a silver wrapped Hershey kiss down in front of Steve.
“Kiss for a kiss?” he says, with a smarmy grin. Steve rolls his eyes, but he checks to make sure they’re alone in the store before swooping forward for a quick peck on the lips.
“I got you something too,” he says.
“Oh?” Eddie raises one eyebrow, managing to look both curious and skeptical. “Please tell me it’s not a cheesy greeting card.”
Steve flips him the bird before reaching into his pocket. He pulls the keychain out and lets it dangle from one finger in front of Eddie’s face.
His boyfriend’s immediate reaction is to wrinkle his nose in disgust. The keychain is a garish red plastic heart, definitely the antithesis of Eddie’s usual metalhead vibe.
But it’s also sparkly.
Steve’s lips curl into a satisfied smirk as Eddie takes the keychain from him, reluctantly admiring the way light sparks off the flakes of holographic glitter embedded in the plastic. The cheap little thing shimmers like a ruby in the afternoon sun.
“Some kid dropped it. They never came back, so it’s yours if you want it.” (That’s technically true, although Steve has been holding on to it for nearly a month now, waiting for today.)
“Oh, well then.” Eddie stuffs the keychain into his pocket. “Finders keepers, losers weepers!” He sticks his tongue out, eyes wide and exaggerated – then leans across the counter and licks Steve’s nose.
“Gross!” Steve sputters with laughter. He scrubs at his face and looks up just in time to see Eddie wave jauntily on his way out the door, a second Hershey kiss left sitting on the counter in his wake.
———
After Steve's shift is over, he runs home for a quick shower and a change of clothes before meeting Eddie at the diner.
He did his best to talk his boyfriend into going on a proper date, but the most he could get Eddie to agree to was milkshakes and a movie (my choice Stevie, not some lame romance).
Steve walks into the diner and spots Eddie at the back booth. He saunters over and sets the third present onto the sticky Formica table with a click. It's a small golden gear, nearly paper-thin.
"Check it out. Found this in the parking lot."
(That's a lie. Steve carefully picked apart a broken old watch from the thrift shop in order to extract a handful of the little gears.)
"Hey, cool! I bet I could use this in the model I'm working on." Eddie pulls the pack of cigarettes out of his coat pocket and drops the gear inside for safe keeping.
"What's the model for?" Steve asks.
Eddie launches into an animated explanation of the character he's creating for a new Hellfire campaign - a sun-worshiping priest that intends to trick the party into becoming a ritual sacrifice.
"... and that gear thing would look pretty good on the top of his staff."
Steve doesn't understand much of what Eddie's saying, but he loves the way his boyfriend talks with his whole body, moving his hands and shoulders and head along with the words. He rests his chin in his hand and lets Eddie ramble until the milkshakes arrive, smiling like a dope the whole time.
Eddie has no concept of time, so Steve is in charge of making sure they finish their milkshakes and leave the diner in time to make it to the movie. As Eddie slides into the passenger seat of the BMW, he says, “Hey – you think we have enough time to stop by the Circle K?”
Steve turns in his seat as he reverses out of the parking lot. "What do you need at the Circle K?"
"Snacks! You can't go to a movie without provisions Stevie! And don't say we can buy some at the concessions stand, because the prices they charge are ridiculous."
“Well if we stop now, we’ll be late – but I’ve got some Milk Duds and trail mix…” Steve doesn’t realize what’s happening until it’s too late. Eddie pops open the glove compartment in his search for snacks, revealing Steve’s little stash of gifts.
Eddie frowns in confusion. “What the hell?” He rifles through the pile as Steve groans.
“Shit. You weren’t supposed to see those yet.”
“What is all this?” Eddie picks up a ring, turning it over in his hands. It's a bulky silver biker ring, like the ones Eddie wears every day - only this one is shaped like a bat with tiny ruby eyes. Steve is particularly proud of that one, discovered in a box of assorted rings at the pawn shop.
Steve gnaws at his lip and runs a hand through his hair, ruining all his careful styling. "I know you hate Valentines, but I wanted to do something. Just… to show you how much I love you. So instead of the cards and flowers and stuff, I tried to find little things you might actually like. For your, you know… your 'dragon hoard' or whatever you call it."
"So the keychain and the gear..."
"And the feather."
Eddie's eyebrow twitches. He stares at the contents of the glove compartment; at the water smoothed stone from the lake and the multicolored twist of ribbon, the vivid green marble and the tiny mother of pearl locket. He looks down at the ring still clutched in his hand, and blinks rapidly.
Steve glances nervously between Eddie and the road, hands tight on the steering wheel. He's disappointed that the surprise has been ruined, but more concerned about Eddie's reaction. He'd expected the other boy to laugh or tease him, not this... whatever this is.
Finally, Eddie clears his throat roughly and speaks. "Actually, can we just head back to my place? I've got something I wanna show you, and I don't think I can wait through the movie."
“Uh… sure.”
Steve's brain is buzzing as he takes a left instead of a right at the intersection. He's worked himself into a bit of a panic by the time they pull into the Munson's driveway. "Eddie, I..."
Eddie interrupts him, practically throwing himself across the center console as he drags Steve into a fierce kiss. By the time Eddie lets him go, Steve is panting. "Wha...?"
"Wait here," Eddie says with a wild grin. He presses Steve back into the seat for emphasis. "Don't move."
He takes the steps up the porch two at a time and fumbles with his key to get inside as Steve watches in a daze. He has no idea what's going on.
After a few minutes, Eddie returns to the door. He's pulled on a t-shirt with a faux tuxedo printed on the front, and he's standing straight backed in the doorway with a towel over his arm, like some kind of maître d’. He waves grandly toward Steve, beckoning him toward the house.
Steve snorts with laughter as he climbs out of the BMW. “What are you doing?”
"This way sir," Eddie replies in a terrible attempt at a posh English accent. Steve shakes his head, thoroughly bewildered and increasingly amused.
He walks past Eddie through the doorway and freezes in surprise.
The living room has been transformed. Eddie set up the gaming table in the middle of the room – set with a crisp white tablecloth, the Munson’s best dishes, and a vase full of red roses sitting in the center of the table, flanked by two candles. More candles twinkle softly from the coffee table, the end tables - even on top of the tv.
"Eddie..." Steve whispers in awe. "What is this?"
"Well, ah... I kind of jumped the gun a little. It’s supposed to be a candlelight dinner. If we'd gone to the movie, Wayne would have had time to get all the food set up. But it won’t take long, I already cooked everything. Just gotta heat it up."
Steve’s vision goes watery, smearing the candlelight into one big blur as tears fill his eyes. He blinks hard to clear them. “I thought you hated all this stuff.”
Eddie shrugs and rubs the back of his neck nervously. “Well, yeah I do. But you love it. So I wanted to surprise you.”
Steve grips his boyfriend by the front of his ridiculous t-shirt and pulls him into a bone-cracking hug, before pulling back just far enough to kiss the breath from him.
In a pause between kisses, Steve rests his forehead against Eddie’s and laughs a little breathlessly. “What made you change your mind about the movie?”
Eddie bites his lips, already swollen from kisses. Steve can’t tear his eyes away.
“I don’t know. When I saw all that stuff you collected for me…” he clears his throat, staring at Steve with wide dark eyes. “I’m… I know I’m weird. I’ve known that my whole life. I never thought I would find anyone that would tolerate me, let alone… celebrate me like that.”
He kisses Steve again, sweet and soft. “I couldn’t sit and wait for two hours after that. I had to get you home and show you how much I love you.”
“I love you too.” Steve smiles against Eddie’s mouth. “You know… I’m not really hungry yet.”
“Oh yeah?”
Steve trails his hands down Eddie’s chest, hooking his fingers into the belt loops of his jeans and tugging. “Mm-hmm. I think we need to work up an appetite first.”
Eddie laughs in delight. “Sounds like a good idea. You know how much I like dessert before dinner.”
A happy Valentine’s Day indeed.

Christmas cheer
When a relationship not known by Chris’ family is suddenly front and center when he insists on her coming to his family Christmas festivities. Just how insane can she expect it to be? And how bad will it effect her relationship?
Tumblr media
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
“I just need my bathing suit and I’ll have all my clothes ready to be packed.” I tell him as I hold the laundry basket in my arms
He nods as he remains half out of it staring at me
“Chris?”
“Mmhm?”
“What’s on your mind?”
He sighs as he sits up saying “I’m not liking the idea of not being together on Christmas. The best holiday.”
I drop the laundry basket and walk over to him, I sit on the armrest of the chair as he pulls me towards him
His lips press to my shoulder as he says “The Bahamas are so lame right now. Change your flight. Let’s go there for New Years. Boston is so beautiful right now.”
Sighing I say “My whole family is there, and they would love to meet you. You know that. I talk about you all the time and my mom already loves you. Why don’t you come with me? And then we can celebrate New Years with your family?”
Slowly he considers giving in as my eyes practically melt him and my lips press to his as I smile widely
The corners of his lips curve upwards in response to me and he groans saying “My mom and sisters would kill me if I missed Christmas. My nieces and nephews are expecting me there.”
Nodding I sigh saying “So basically we can’t spend the holiday together. And we’re back to square one.”
He smiles to me and says “Yeah. I guess so.”
But that look on his face for a split second was awfully mischievous and I know he’s up to something.
He pushes my hair out of my face and kisses my collarbones as we draw closer to each other
“It’s snowing in Boston. Have you ever been to Boston when it’s snowing?”
“No. I haven’t.”
“Winter is my second favorite season there. A white Christmas is my favorite. And my family goes all nine yards.”
“Oh really? What do they do?”
He smiles and says “Well my whole big family pile into my childhood home and we spend the whole week together. My mom has us baking and cooking all week and we go see a Christmas play on Christmas Eve. And we have a Christmas Eve party after. And Christmas Day is the best, seeing my niece and nephews excitement over the gifts is the best. My mom makes us spiked hot chocolate and we have this massive dinner. It’s literally heaven.”
The pause sits for awhile as I think on my family, my parents have my sisters and all their friends in the Bahamas with them currently
I paid for the vacation, called it an early Christmas gift.
But… Boston doesn’t sound too bad
“If.. I can change my flight, I’m in.”
His eyes widen suddenly as he looks to me surprised saying “You’re serious?”
I scoff saying “Was that not a real offer?”
“No! No it was real. I’ll.. I’ll call my mom telling her you’re coming along.”
I nod and stare at the laundry across the room. I sigh saying “im not going to need that bathing suit am I?”
He laughs whole heartedly and I grumble saying “You owe me time at the beach. I need ocean and sun time.”
“Promise. New Years with your family in the Bahamas. We can stay a week longer than your family. Just us.”
I sigh into him as I grow relaxed, nodding saying “That sounds perfect. Just what I need after the shit-show movie I just wrapped.”
“He was a terrible director.”
“He made me pull my hair out. I need to strictly rely on Greta and Sofia for work. They’re the only tolerable directors I’ve worked with. Besides obviously the marvel projects.”
He nods saying “Making everyone work on a holiday is crazy.”
“Well you saw how well that worked out for him.”
Chris laughs saying “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie crew so happy that an actress went full diva for them.”
“They all deserved to be with their families, regardless if they celebrated the holiday or not.”
“Trust me, I know they were thankful.”
I sigh saying “Yeah…. Now tell me what I need to pack for Boston.”
“You need to start with at least 3-4 coats or jackets.”
I make a winced face and say “You’re kidding.”
“That doesn’t include winter coats. Do you have a winter—”
He pauses as he looks to me as I produce a pinched expression and shrug saying “I don’t own anything like that.”
“We’ve got a lot of work to do then.”
The flight was simple enough, I overpacked and had to check my bag. Chris didn’t have to, he had a small enough bag for it to be a carry on
I realized how big of a mistake it was to check my bag the minute I started looking through the carousels for my suitcase
Only to my surprise it never came around. Chris felt terrible as the flight attendant informed me that my suitcase, along with half the passengers were left to fly out on the next plane
I blinked in response to her, feeling anger rise within me “what do you mean you left my suitcase?”
“It will be delivered here in a few hours. We can ship it to the address you—”
“I just want my things! Why couldn’t you fit my suitcase on the plane?”
“There are certain rules and regulations we need to follow, the flight was sold out and we couldn’t exceed a certain weight—”
“Everything I need is in my suitcase! It’s 25 degrees out! I need my things!”
Chris wraps his arm around me attempting to calm me down saying “Honey… honey it’s alright. We’ll figure it out.”
I scoff saying “Don’t give me that. You carried your suitcase on. You have everything you could possibly need. I have nothing. My scripts were in there. I needed to run those lines.”
He sighs and attempts to comfort me as he looks to the lady saying “How soon will it be shipped?”
“The second it’s in our custody. You should get it by tomorrow.”
“That’s not so bad, you’ll have all your things by tomorrow. In the meantime we’ll figure something out.”
The Bahamas are sounding a lot better now
“Yeah. Okay..” I say unconvinced and on edge
Chris had called his mom a day ago telling her he was bringing his girlfriend and she was surprised to find out so late in advance
Pretty frustrated this is one of the few times she’d even heard about me.
But before I wasn’t even his girlfriend, we were just going on a few dates. He thought it was easier to just say that to his mother instead
We were both so busy, there was no time to share with anyone else but each other
And we used every single minute we could find with the other
He’d fly to me and leave in the morning. Or I’d fly in at 9am and have to leave at 12am.
He knows he should have mentioned his girlfriend earlier, to not only his mother but probably his sisters and practically anyone else in his family
I ask as he drives our rental car towards the house “Scott’s there already?”
He’s the one person I really knew from his family, considering how often he visited
“Yeah. He just got to the house this morning.”
I swallow hard saying “And your mom, Lisa knows I’m coming to Christmas?”
“She knows, relax y/n. There’s nothing to worry about. My mom will love you and we’ll have a great time.”
“So your older is Carly, and Shanna is your younger sister. Then there’s your dad and he’s a dentist. And then there’s miles and—”
“Clearly you’ve done your research.”
I sigh as I run my hands down my face saying “I wouldn’t even need to. You love your family, you talk about them constantly. I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve met them. I could probably recite their birthdays at this point… oh my god. Don’t let me say that to them. I’m losing my mind. I’m so nervous, were you this nervous to meet my mom?”
He laughs as I scramble my sentences together quickly, talking way too fast
“Your mother gave me no warning, I met her in my boxers while I was getting the paper. I had no time to be nervous.”
I smile and look to him saying “She thought you were handsome immediately.”
He shakes his head saying with a chuckle “No, her first comment was asking why I was so pale.”
Laughing I shake my head saying “I can’t believe she said that.”
“She wasn’t wrong.”
He livens up my mood just switching the topic, I feel better already. He squeezes my hand saying “Just don’t overthink this and you’ll do great. Promise.”
And that’s when we turned down a street where I saw a suburban neighborhood, it was different than I was used to
There was an inflatable Santa on the large patch of grass in the front yard and lights thrown up onto the gutters, brightly colored
The driveway was full and it made me uneasy. Chris put the car in park and once he turned off the engine he looked to me “you ready to go in?”
“The gifts were in my suitcase, Chris. I have nothing for them—”
“You have your bright smile. That’s enough, we can go shopping in the morning or wait for your suitcase. All that matters is the gifts under the tree by Christmas.”
A sigh releases my lips as I look to the sprawl of inflatables across the front yard that I hadn’t noticed earlier
Some that are so clearly Boston suburbia that it’s odd to me
“Oh. That’s Jim. Moms had that inflatable for decades. It’s older than all the grandkids combined.”
“What is… it supposed to be?”
“It used to be an 8foot tall snowman, one of the first to be released. But it’s face wore off so is kids drew a new one on with sharpie and… yeah that was the result.”
Scott slowly sneaks around the car, and slams his palms into the glass of my car door
I scream as I jerk my head towards him and heave heavy breaths as my screaming stops
Chris laughs loudly and boisterous as I nearly kick the door open. It hitting Scott as I climb out, pushing his shoulder as his laugher only annoys me
“You’re an asshole!”
He and Chris just think my reaction is the funniest thing possible
“Did you hit your head when you jumped that high?”
He tumbles to the ground as he falls in the snow and practically cries with laughter
I huff in annoyance saying “Why would you do that?”
“He didn’t tell you?” Scott struggles to say as he gasps for air as his laughter slows
I look to Scott saying “We have a whole competition going, scaring each other. We do this basically every time everyone’s home.”
Chris smiles as he says “She has an out, it’s her first Christmas with us. She is free of the jump scares.”
“No way! She needs to experience the evans family Christmas in every way.”
Chris gives Scott a look and I walk away saying “I’m freezing. Can we please go inside.”
Scott nods saying “that sounds like a great idea.”
Chris nods as he lifts his suitcase through the snow and pulls his jacket off as he drapes it over my shoulders
I look to him thankfully as I tighten it around me. I slow to a stop as I wait for one of the two brothers to lead the way
Chris steps in front of me as he says “You okay?”
“Yeah. Just cold—” but I’m cut off by Scott running towards us and throwing a snowball into the back of Chris’ head
Scott laughs as I feel the corners of my smile turning upwards quickly as I laugh quietly as Chris huffs out a breath of annoyance
“oh… little brother you so shouldn’t have started this.”
“Chris.” I plead as his hand digs into the snow
“Just let me reach this little punk a lesson.”
And they’re already at it with each other. I stand there as Chris creates a snow ball throwing it towards his brother as Scott ducks out of the shot
My sisters and I were never like this. They were 12-15 years older than me. By the time I was 5-6 years old they were out of the house or in college. I was basically an only child with occasional visits from my sisters
But Bree moved to England for a job and Elise lives across the US. Hawaii, with her husband. Her husband is stationed in the navy there
I wince as both Scott and Chris tumble roughly into the snow but I smile because it’s hilarious
“They do this often.”
My shoulders jump at the voice, I thought I was alone out here
I look to the woman and say “And I’m sure it’s entertaining every time.” My smile shines towards her and she breathes out a laugh saying “Yeah. Most of the time. I’m Shanna. You must be y/n, his girlfriend. Right?”
Nodding I say “yes, that is me. I’m sorry to intrude on your Christmas, he insisted I have a Boston Christmas.”
“You don’t have family around here?”
I pause and say “They’re in the Bahamas for Christmas.”
“And you picked this over that?” She laughs as I shake my head saying “I couldn’t leave him. We try to spend any second we can together. I’m sorry, are you Carly or Shanna? Chris talks about his sisters so much but I can’t place your name.”
She smiles saying “Shanna. His younger sister.”
“Oh okay. Thank you.
She nods saying “How’d the two of you meet?”
“Work. Of course. There’s not really anywhere else I could’ve meet someone.”
“You’re an actor too?”
I nod and say “Yeah.”
“Are you cold? We could go in while they sort this whole thing out?”
I look towards Chris as he has Scott pinned down with knee pressed against his back.
Scott’s face doesn’t leave the patch of snow as Chris tells him to tap out
I look to their sister saying “Is this normal?”
Shanna smiles saying “Yes. When they’re around each other they get like this. They’re brothers that’s for sure haha.”
I bite at my lip saying “I really am freezing. We could go in.. I’m just anxious.”
“Why don’t you head in while I get these idiots into the house?”
She steps away before I can argue the offer
I swallow hard and walk towards the house, I so don’t want to go in alone
Scott is pulled up from the snow and pushes his brother as he looks to me as Chris brushes off the snow on his clothes
“Babe, you can head in. You look like you’re about to freeze.”
I nod to Chris and ask “Just walk in?”
“My ma doesn’t care, she has everyone just walk right in.”
I stare at the door as I push it open and enter the house. Shutting it behind me to keep all the warmth in the house
I’m first hit with voices and I slow to a stop as I attempt not to intrude
But then I quickly realize they’re talking about me
“No, this is really the first time he’s ever brought her up. He told me all about her a day ago and that she was coming for Christmas.”
“Shanna is laying into her for answers and to find out what kind of person she is. God I hope she’s not some arrogant brat.”
My eyes widen suddenly as my arms drop to my sides quickly
“God knows Chris has poor taste in women. Should be interesting to meet her. From what he’s told me she’s a bit high maintenance.”
My eyebrows shoot up at that and I huff in annoyance
“I can only hope she isn’t some privileged obnoxious child. Chris didn’t give me much, only that they didn’t want to be apart. It sounds like they’re pretty serious.”
“How close could they be if he kept her hidden from us? She’s got to be the reason he skipped literally everything for thanksgiving but the dinner. He literally rolled in here at 3 and left by 8.”
The pause in conversation leaves me frozen in the entry way as I feel like I just stepped into something I shouldn’t hear
“You think he’s fallen for a girl who will keep him from us for holidays? That’s often what happens when a son marries someone.”
“You think they’re getting married?! He hardly knows the girl. God bless her but Chris could never commit to something like that. You know the cycle, give it a few more months and they’ll have moved on.”
“He said she can be difficult, especially under pressure. Like I said super high maintenance.”
“Probably means controlling.”
Excuse me?
“If this girl is wrong for him I’ll have a conversation with him. He’s my son, he’ll listen to me. She’ll be just another ex girlfriend if we don’t like her—”
I can feel the lump in my throat growing as I reach for the door handle but it opens and I take a step back as Chris steps in
He looks to me confused as I remain hovering by the door like I wanted to bolt, his arms find their way around my sides saying “you alright?”
My shoulders tighten and wind up as my whole body tightens up, I shrug in response as I slip from his grasp
Scott shouts “Ma! Chris and y/n are here!”
Chris huffs in response to his brother
The group of people file towards us as my hands pull at the zipper sides of Chris’ jacket that’s tightly wrapped around my body
Tightening it around me
“Chris!”
He bounds for his mother, and you could tell how much he loves him mom. That’s a strong hug around her. Clearly he missed her
Maybe she was right, I didn’t think I was keeping him from his family
Suddenly I feel super out of place as their whole family hugs and speaks to each other
Slowly I slip into the background of the family as my back presses to the door, everything growing overwhelming
“My sweet boy. I’m so happy you’re here.”
Controlling.
That word wanders around my head as I feel the weight of it
High maintenance
How could she have all these opinions of me before even meeting me?
Scott pulls away from his older sister saying “y/n, meet my sister Carly… y/n?” He looks behind him not finding me
I’m practically melting through the door as Chris suddenly pulls away from the conversation him and his mother are having
“honey?”
The people in front of me, serving as I wall suddenly break into two groups and the whole Evans family turns towards me
Chris looks to me with a widening smile and walks forward, grabbing my hand and saying “Everyone, this is my girlfriend y/n. I’ll introduce you to each person in a minute. Firstly, this is my ma.”
The woman looks to me and I feel the nauseous feeling grow as I stare at her nervously
She takes a step towards me as Chris’ warm hand leaves my back
She smiles and says “I’m Lisa. It’s so great to meet you.”
My grin slips as she pulls me into a hug and I grow frustrated as she says “Chris just adores you.”
I swear there’s sarcasm coming off her words
“Love, mom. I love her.” Chris confirms as his smile falls from his lips and I’m released. I’m basically introduced around and the minute I’m free from introductions I find Scott
He’s with Carly but I grab his wrist tightly and give him the crazy eyes. He excused himself from his sister as I pull him out front
“I have to get out of here.”
“What? What are you talking about?”
My hands pull down my face as I frown and say “Your mother doesn’t know I heard what she and Carly were saying in the kitchen.”
“What we’re they saying in the kitchen?” He leans forward, practically begging for the information
“Am I controlling?”
“What? Why would you…. Oh.” He pauses as he looks inside the glass panels for a second saying “she doesn’t know you. Don’t take what she said to heart. She probably read a bad article about you.”
I shake my head as I sit down on the front steps and he follows shortly after “They lost my suitcase. I have nothing. I’m feeling insecure enough already. And I know Chris is loving every minute of this but I’m just… overwhelmed and annoyed.”
Scott nods as he rubs my shoulder, and I continue saying “He never told his mom or anyone about me. They don’t know me. Would he have ever told them about me? He basically worships your mom. But I’m not important enough to be a topic?”
“I’m sure he has good reason, bee.”
I huff in response and cover my face saying “This is going to be a long week. You have to promise me you won’t leave my side. If Chris isn’t glued to my side you have to be. Please.”
His eyes widen and he says “That’s a big job.”
I narrow my eyes to him saying “Scott.”
He smiles lightly saying “Fine deal.”
“This is going to be a long week.” We both say in sync

Propaganda
Barbara Stanwyck (Ball of Fire, The Lady Eve, Double Indemnity)—I hope someone else has submitted better propaganda than I because I don't want my girl's prospects to rest on me just yelling PLEASE VOTE FOR MY TERRIBLE HOT GIRLFRIEND. She is a delight in everything! She is often a sexy jerk! (It's most of the plot of Baby Face!) Even when she plays a "good girl" (as an example, Christmas in Connecticut, which more people should see) she's still kind of a jerk and I love her for it! She won't take men's shit and she sure wouldn't take mine!
Mae Clarke (The Public Enemy, Frankenstein)—she was in frankenstein. which i think is neat
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]

Barbara Stanwyck propaganda:
"THE queen of screwball comedies. I adore her, I'd kill for her, I will cry if she's not gonna win this poll."
Tumblr media
"listen ok she had awful politics she was a mccarthyist right wing wacko BUT she's so incredibly hot that i've deluded myself into believing i could fix her. if you see her onscreen she carries herself in a way that's just so effortlessly sexy AND she has just a stunning face. imo she was at her hottest in the 1940s but even as early as the late 1920s she had a rly captivating screen presence and just a beautiful face, and then post-1950 she was just irresistibly milfy so really she was just always incredibly hot. she was also an incredibly talented actress who was equally stellar in melodrama, film noir, and unhinged screwball comedy. the blonde wig they made her wear in double indemnity is notoriously silly looking but she still looks sexy in it so that's gotta count for something. i've watched so many terrible movies just for a chance at seeing her that i think her estate should be paying me damages."
Tumblr media
"Not often thought of for her sultriness, Barbara Stanwyck was incredible in that she could actually choose to be hot if the role called for it, and then have a glow-down to look ordinary for another role. She wasn't the most beautiful or effervescent, but damn did she have rizz. Watch her with Gary Cooper in Ball of Fire teaching him about "yum-yum" or with Henry Fonda in The Lady Eve whispering huskily into his ear."
youtube
"THE leading lady of the golden age of hollywood. One of the only actresses to work independent of a studio, making short-term contracts that enabled her to make movies wherever she wanted. She had so much range, and could act in basically any genre. She's been rumored to be a lesbian literally since she was active in Hollywood; most notable is the rumor that she had a long time on-and-off relationship with famously bi Joan Crawford, her "best friend" for decades (They lived right next door to one another). She also lived with Helen Ferguson, her "live-in publicist" for many years. She was the quintessential femme fatale in Double Indemnity, and really pushed sexual boundaries in her pre-code films like Baby Face, and the famous screwball The Lady Eve, where she plays basically a downlow domme. Allegedly, when a journalist asked her if she was a lesbian, she straight up threw him out of her house. She even played a lesbian in Walk on the Wild Side"
"She is always the smartest woman in the room. Watching her play Henry Fonda like a befuddled fiddle in The Lady Eve was a highlight of my life. Femme fatale in Double Indemnity, comedy queen in Ball of Fire. She can do anything."
"She was part of my gay awakening"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"SHE'S A PRE-CODE QUEEN. She did everything, drama, comedy. The most beautiful woman in the world to watch weep. Beg for to step on you with those legs. Fun Babs story: Ginger Rogers was offered the role in Ball of Fire but said, “Oh, I would never play that part, she’s too common.” So they called Barbara Stanwyck and they said “We offered this to Ginger Rogers but she’s turned it down, would you be interested?” And she read the script and she said; “You bet! I LOVE playing common broads.” (Source: https://misstanwyck.tumblr.com/post/72996544180/barbara-stanwyck-photographed-for-ball-of-fire)"

Tumblr media
(Thank you for the gif @psychecreations )
Enjoy!
“When’s the first doctors appointment?” Nancy asks, walking up to where you were currently standing at your jobs wait station. You jump, dropping the order pad you had been scribbling in as you turn to find her leaning on the wall.
“What? Why are you here?”
“I was craving chicken and didn’t want to hear Steves kfc imitation. So we decided to come here.” She smiles, rubbing her stomach ever so slightly. “Plus it meant I got to check on you.”
“Oh I’m fine.” You lie, forcing a smile on your face as she narrows her eyes.
It’s been 4 days since the Christmas fiasco, and 4 days since you realized Eddie was leaving. You tried to pick yourself back up the day of Christmas but ended up telling everyone that you were really sick and should shut the party down early. They had all gone to Steves and you were truly embarrassed to think of what they might have been saying about you.
God, did you have to ruin everything you touched?
“You never answered my question.”
“Oh? I was just sick. It’s not a serious bug or anything. I just didn’t want to get you guys sick on Christmas. That would have been bad” you lie again, feeling a coiling feeling in your gut. “Why don’t you go sit?”
“Y/n, girl I love you. But you’re showing.”
“Am not.”
“Are too. Especially in this waitressing uniform.” It was true. Normally the old school 70s uniform fit you like a glove, falling just to your thighs and it made tips so much easier. Right now? It was on the tighter side…… which made tips even easier because your boobs looked great but you felt terrible about everything.
“Does he know?” Nancy asks, and you have to stop yourself from telling her or shove off. After a moment of silence she seems to take that for an answer. “Y/n….. Eddie needs to know.”
“Why? So I can trap someone else?” You laugh bitterly. “That poor guy has already put up with enough of my shit. Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go grab tables.”
You walk past her, not giving her a chance to argue as you completely avoid looking to their tables direction and move to your own section of the floor to greet a new table.
Pam, one of your favorite regulars, sees you and greets you with a smile. “You never work Friday nights!”
You always spent Friday nights with Eddie and the girls for movie night. But Eddie ran and you needed to make rent so tonight Max was watching them.
“Starting now I will be. You want your usual babe?”
“You know it!.” She giggles.
-
Steve tried saying bye before they left and you pretended you didn’t see him as you took orders, by the end of the night your feet were killing you and you all but limped inside to where Max was sitting at the table doing college homework with her headphones on.
Either she didn’t have them loud or she was on edge, your guess being a bit of both, she knows you're there and turns to you when you enter the kitchen.
“Thank you so much Max.” You mumble, pulling out the tip money you had set aside for her. “I’m sorry I ran late.”
“No need to pay.” She smiles, pushing the money away. “I like spending time with them.”
That tight feeling in your stomach is back, digging in as you stare at the redhead. She had been part of the reason you chose Hawkins, Billy had (in one of his rare good moments) described the way Max seemed to blend in and find a home here. He told you about the friends she made and how she managed to grow into a brave person and you wanted that for your own. So, assuming she was gone, you moved out here. Little did you know you find her soon enough along with an entire group of people connected to your ex.
You had always been told max was dead.
Max had always been told Billy was dead.
You didn’t know how she figured you out until Eddie told you about VECNA and Lucas told you about his girlfriends sight for things.
“I…. I saw the tickets.” She admits, blush traveling her cheeks as you move to make a cup of tea. The cupboard was still broken and you couldn’t bear to look at it.
“What tickets?”
“You left your folder out on the table. I saw that you were figuring out where to go.” Max admits and you can’t help but tense.
“I just….. I don’t want the girls being surrounded by…..”
“Billy?”
“Yes…..” you admit, still keeping your back to her as you boil water. “And Eddie. I just don’t want them knowing that he left them. They adore him too much.”
Coward. Coward. COWARD.
“I’m not a mom, but I can get your urge to protect them.” Max mumbles. “But what if they end up hating you for taking them away.”
“Then they have someone to blame. I’d rather them blame me than themselves. It is my fault anyways.” You admit, tears springing into your eyes. “Anyways. Take the money, go have fun.”
“Do you need me again this week? I saw that you work on New Year’s Eve.”
“No. You should be going out with your friends.”
“The boys have a start of the year campaign and El is taking a trip with Hopper. I’m free.” She laughs, trying to break the tension built up. “I’ll be here at 2.”
You can’t get the words thank you out because of how tight your throat is, so you just mouth them as she grabs the money and passes.
-
Steve could not stop laughing when he saw Eddie’s face the day he brought the car into the shop, leaning over on his knees to catch his breath as he wheezed out.
Dylan, the other mechanic, kept looking over to watch the scene unfold as Eddie tried to focus on his friends car.
“Harrington.”
“Dude I know- it’s just that your face is so purp-hahaha.” Another fit of laughter and Eddie is debating throwing his drill at him. He was in no shape to be dealing with him today.
Truth was Eddie had barely gotten a wink of sleep, he couldn’t manage to. Not used to not having you beside him, or not having the girls night light and soft lullabies. It had been 5 days since he saw you and he was beginning to lose his mind and resolve.
Almost every night he nearly talked himself into going back, then he remembered Motleys broken cries as they carted him off and the way she clung to your hip. The way she screamed for her dad as Eddie attacked him.
Monster monster monster.
“Gotta give it to Hargrove. He knows how to punch.”
“Yeah well, hope he had his fun.” Eddie snaps, leaning back to make sure he adjusted the part correctly.
“Did you get him back?”
“I got a few licks in.” Eddie mumbles, feeling guilty about the pride that washes over him as he remembers the way he beat Billy's face in. That was motleys dad. As much as he enjoyed hitting him he probably just scarred the Metalhead for life.
“Oh a few licks.” Steve scoffs, moving to take a seat on the stool at Eddie’s workstation. “I know how strong you are Munson. You got more than a few licks in.”
“I shouldn’t have.”
“Why the hell not?”
“Because Motley was right there! She’s gonna hate me forever.” Eddie scoffs.
“Oh you mean more than they already do?” This pulls Eddie’s attention, he had been doing so good about not asking but he was dying to know. What had they said? Were they happy he’s gone? Mad that he fought Billy?
“What’d they say?”
“Not much of anything. Nancy knows something is up but your girl is keeping her lips sealed pretty well. I didn’t even know about your fight with jackass until I saw your face.”
“But you said they were mad.”
“Yeah man, you missed Christmas and just dipped. Leaves a bad impression.”
“Oh whatever. They are better off, I just ruin everything.”
“Oh. My. God.” Steve gasps, looking at Eddie like he’s figured everything out. “You’re self sabotaging!”
“What?!”
“Yeah! You think you’re the bad guy and so you’re trying to run away which is just making you even more of a bad guy which means my wife can stop threatening to shave your head.”
“I….. no man you don’t get it.”
“I do get it. I get it more than anyone else and let me be the first to tell you that you’re being a massive idiot.” He sighs, standing up. “Motley was waiting by that window to spot you that entire day.”
“S……she was?”
“Yeah Munson. She was.”
“I just….. I don’t want to be the one holding them back. I don’t want her to hate me.”
“Did you ever think that maybe Motley chose you? Like you chose Wayne?” Steve asks, watching Eddie deflate before his eyes before turning to the car. “I’m not paying by the way. Consider my advice enough.”
“Ass.”
Eddie spends the day of New Year’s Eve by the phone, fighting the urge to call.
What would he say? How would he explain?
No. Don’t call. This is for the better.
Yes. Call. Just pick the phone just for the chance to hear your voice.
God damn when did life get so complicated?
“What are you doing?” Wayne asks, watching eddie from his spot on the couch. “Quit wearing down my carpet.”
The carpet has been worn down since Eddie had moved in, but he chooses not to comment instead he sits by the phone, keeping his pinky on the handle of the plastic and glaring at it.
“You expecting a call?”
“No.” Eddie groans, rubbing his chest to try and relieve some of the pain built up. God he missed you guys. “Fuck. I’m gonna go smoke.”
He rushes to the back porch before Wayne could argue, hearing the old man laugh as he slams the door.
There is a dog out there when he exits, chewing on a stick found from the trees and sitting right by the fence. Upon looking a little closer he sees that the dog actually seems caught under the fence, like he was trying to sneak in.
“Jesus.” He murmurs, keeping the joint between his lips as he walks up, socked feet stepping on sticks and stones making him grunt out and try walking on his tippy toes.
He looks back with a smile, expecting a giggle from one of the girls at his weird walk before he realizes he’s alone. Shit.
The dog is panting patiently when Eddie comes up, and the man reaches a hand to let him sniff before moving to help. The dog chooses to kiss at his arm, tongue lapping at the skin as Eddie lifts the fence to try and help free him.
“Why you sneaking in pal?” He grunts, bending the fence. “You hungry?”
Within moments the dog is out, jumping up and kissing at his face for being rescued. “God. Motley would love you.”
-
“Shhhhh Ziggy.” Motley whispers to her baby sister, pulling her closer to the corner. The way daddy eddie set up her room was perfect.
He had put her bed in the center which left a small corner by her nightstand hidden from the door.
Over the past week she had looked for Daddy Eddie’s number, finding it sprawled under the label emergency numbers where he had written it under Wayne.
It was so weird that Daddy Eddie called his dad Uncle Wayne. Adults were so confusing.
Before you had left for your shift that night you made sure to wish Motley a happy new year and made her promise to behave. Little did you know that she had crossed her fingers behind her back.
The second you were gone she dashed to grab the closest phone, pulling it into her room and hiding it as Max struggled to cook nuggets for dinner.
Later that night when Auntie Max was reading on the couch Motley tiptoed to Ziggys room before sneaking her sister out of her crib and tip toeing back as Ziggy giggles happily.
“Sissy…” She giggles, pulling at Motleys cheeks happily. “Zigsy.”
“No your Ziggy silly. I’m motley.” She corrects as she shuffles with her sister in an awkward half hold half walk carry until they are in the corner. “Okay Ziggy. Sissy needs your help. You remember the plan?”
“Zigzy!”
“Oh boy…..”
-
The phone rings late, and Eddie sits up in the couch to lean his upper body to answer it, stressed and annoyed.
The stray dog lifts their head, huffing at being woken up and tilting to hear, one ear shooting up. “Easy Zeppelin.”
The dog barks, and Eddie likes to think he enjoyed the name as he picks the phone up. “Munson residence.”
God it felt weird saying that again.
“DADDY!” Motley whispers, sounding scared. Eddie is instantly up, standing on his feet and swiping at his face to wake up a little more.
“Motley? What’s wrong baby?”
“Someone’s trying to get in daddy.”
“Get in where? Where are you?” He’s already reaching for his keys, heart beating through his ears as his hands shake.
“We’re at home.” She whines.
“Where’s mommy?”
“At work!” Fuck. “Okay. Okay. Just hide. Just like daddy told you, remember? If anything happens, hide. You know where Ziggy is?”
“She’s with me.”
“Good girl. Get under your bed or in your closet. I’ll be right there.” He mumbles, calling out to Wayne to grab the phone before booking it out of the trailer.
He gives no time for the van to warm up, tearing out of the trailer park so quickly he’s sure he hit someone’s patio chair, mumbling under his breath a panicked “fuckfuckfuck”
-
The van is uneven as Eddie pulls in quickly, shifting gears to park so hard it makes a grinding sound before he is swinging the door open and tearing out. His feet hit the gravel before the grass as he rushes to the front door, using his shoulder to shove it open harshly.
A scream tears out in to the air at his entrance before a book is thrown at him which makes him yell out at whoever is in the house.
“EDDIE?!”
“MAXINE?!” He snaps, blinking at her. “What the fuck you doing?”
“What am I doing?! What are you doing?! You physco!”
“Motley said that someone was trying to break in!”
“I put Motley to bed an hour ago.” Max grunts, confusion lacing her features.
“You’re babysitting?”
“Obviously.”
“But her car is in the front.”  Eddie felt like he was going crazy. “And since when does she work nights?!”
“Her car wouldn’t start so she took the bus today.” Max sighs, rolling her eyes. “And she needs extra cash. Probably for the plane tickets to get out of here.”
“Tickets out of….” Before Eddie can process her words any further there is a small pair of eyes looking around the corner drawing his attention.
Ziggy moves quickly, coming around the corner with a very excited giggle, walking to him as fast as her little feet would allow. “Da-Ed-ay!”
“Hey there baby girl.” He smiles, picking her up and swooping her into his arms to kiss all over her face. It was odd, just how much he missed this and it seemed like she had gotten so much bigger in the 4 days he missed.
“I swear to god I put her to bed. How did she get out of her crib?!” Max glares, right as the culprit behind it all comes rushing out to run at Eddie.
“I knew you’d come! I knew it daddy!” She giggles, running at him and throwing her arms around him tightly. “You came back!”
“Motley?” He starts, brain beginning to process what she was saying. “Did you…. Lie to get me here?”
“I did!” She smiles, peering up at him with big doe eyes. “I lied daddy! And now you’re here and you can take all my Barbie’s!”
“If you know lying is bad and you’ll get punished, why did you do it?” He asks, pulling her off before squatting to her level. “Metal head, that was very dangerous-“
A gust of air leaves him as her arms wrap around his neck tightly, tears springing from her eyes. “I don’t want you to be mad at me anymore.”
“Motley I’m not mad, that was just dangerous and it scare-“
“No! About Billy. I’m sorry daddy.” His heart plummets, his brain racking to figure out what she was talking about. Why was she sorry?
“No. No I’m sorry.” He sighs, turning to see Max staring at them intently. “Hey max. Think you can take Ziggy for a moment?”
“Sure thing mop head.” The redhead scoops Ziggy up causing the young toddler to scream and kick, reaching chubby fingers out for Eddie. As much as he wanted to take her back he had to focus on Motley.
“Come sit.” He nods his head, leading her to the kitchen table sitting in the chair beside hers and angling it so they were facing. “Listen….. Daddy ha- Well I have been feeling really bad about Christmas Eve. I never meant to do that, or to attack your dad in front of you.”
“But-“
“I owe you a big apology for that Motley. And I don’t know what you’re feeling sorry about, pretty girl, but it’s not your fault and you have no reason to be sorry.” He murmurs, swiping the tears that fall from her cheek. “You have done nothing wrong.”
“I told Billy he couldn’t come for Christmas Daddy!” She blurts, her tears hit against his thumb as he keeps swiping her cheek. “I’m sorry!”
“No no no. You don’t be sorry.” He moves to pick her up, sitting her on his lap with her face pressed into his chest as he rubs his palm over her hair to try and soothe her. “Let’s just take a deep breath, okay? Then you can tell me what happened.”
There’s something coiling in his gut at her tears. Pain, anger, sadness. He truly could not tell, but he kept her close and rocked her back and forth to let her cry. When she finally calmed down enough to talk she started telling him.
“He was really mean daddy. And he kept t-telling me that y-you we’re gonna replace me-“ her body racks with sobs again. “He said you didn’t want me. A-and I was upset! But he w-was mean to you-“
“Easy.” He whispers, wiping her cheek once more. “You gotta breathe pretty girl.”
“He was m-mean. Said mean things about you daddy and mean things ab- I’m sorry! I-“ her sobbing gets worse and Eddie shushes her, choosing to rock her back and forth and keep her in his tight embrace. “And you w-were ma-you were madatme.”
“No no. I was never mad.” He sighs. “Daddy was never mad at you.”
“You were.”
“No, I was just scared. I…. Daddy didn’t want you hating him.” Eddie explains. “I just wanted to give you space. Having 2 dads is confusing. I didn’t want to make it worse.”
“He hit you.”
“Did he ever hit you motley?” Eddie asks sternly, squeezing her a bit in comfort.
“He spanked me.” That feeling in his stomach settled on rage.
“That’s not fair. And you shouldn’t have had to go through that.”
“Please don’t leave again.”  As much as he wanted to promise her that he wouldn't, that wasn’t a promise he could make. You probably hated him, and he would have to talk this out with you first.
“Let’s get you to bed yeah? Daddy will tuck you in.”
“I want mama.”
“Well she’s at work.” He mumbles against her hair.
“Can we go get milkshakes?”
“I don’t know…..” it was almost 10. Then again it was New Year’s Eve and he didn’t want you taking the bus home so this would give him an excuse to go pick you up. “Only if they have chocolate.”
“You already know they have chocolate!” She giggles, and he can’t stop the way his heart seems to light up.
-
It was a busy night, and the smell of the jalapeno nachos all your tables were ordering was making you nauseated and angry. You wanted to throw up, maybe cry, maybe throw up then cry.
Apparently a town next to Hawkins lost power so a bunch of people were driving to this place to have a good new years which meant you were going to be stuck here forever. You found yourself stressing about the bus’ schedule as you dashed to run food.
This is what you had been doing when you spotted him. Running a tray of jalapeño nachos to your table, keeping it a safe distance from your nose as you thought about the fact that you might have to walk, and there he was.
Standing in the doorway, leather jacket and wide eyes, as you caught him looking for you. And he was holding Ziggy.
What the fuck Maxine?!
“Y/n get a move on!” Your manager calls and you snap out of it, moving to deliver the tray as the host seats Eddie.
You hear Motley call out “mommy!” And instantly knew that they would now be sat in your section. Did it make you a bad mother if you admitted you would rather die than face him tonight?
“Mama!” Your daughter calls, making you look over as she slides in, Eddie sitting right next to her and then you are forced to confront this. You should have learned about birth control. Better yet maybe you should have practiced the art of condoms more.
Thinking of all the ways you could have prevented this situation as you gaze at your daughters adorable smiling face. God she was beautiful….. still should have used a condom.
“What a surprise. I could have sworn I left you guys with Max.” You try to smile, avoiding looking at Eddie as Ziggy reaches for you. You grab her gently, bouncing her on your hip and she starts playing with your hair clip.
“I got daddy!” Motley admits proudly, pointing to Eddie which makes you look at him. Your heart thumping against your chest, adrenaline rushing through you as he stares at you with those god damn brown eyes.
“Munson.” You greet, turning back to Motley. “Girls, stay in the booth for a moment. Okay? I’m gonna talk to him outside.”
You walk off after that, leaving Eddie no choice but to follow as he jumps up and runs to catch up. The winter hair hits you, and you immediately wrap your arms around yourself to keep some of the warmth, the crappy waitress outfit doing nothing for you.
The second you hear your name fall from his lips you whirl, slapping him in the chest to push him back. “What the fuck is the matter with you munson?!”
“I…. Give me a moment to explain, please.”
“Explain?! EXPLAIN?!” A bitter laugh splits from your lips. “Look. I get it. My life was a bit too messy and fucked up, I’d run too. But you bringing the girls here is just making it worse. You’re going to get their hopes and it’s gonna crush them.”
“Too messy? Who said anything about it being too messy?”
“WHY ELSE WOULD YOU RUN?!” Your voice raises louder than you thought it would, but you don’t back down. “And I don’t appreciate you talking to my daughters without me. Now I gotta tell them-“
The words ‘my daughters’ sound wrong, and you can’t fight the disgust that coats you as you trail off, eyes widening as he stares back at you with a set jaw. “I just mean….. I get why you left okay? My life is chaos and you were really nice for staying and pretending like it was fine. But those girls…. They can’t know you left cause of that. I was hoping, as shitty as it sounds, that after a couple years they’d forget. Y’know?”
You are swiping at your cheeks as tears stream down your face, trying not to look at him. You catch him moving up, his hands outstretched, but you move backwards so he can’t grab you. “Eds. Y-you should just go. Okay? It’ll be fine.”
“No it won’t-“
“It will. I’ll be fine. I won’t be mad-“ then his arms are around you, pulling you in quickly as he shoves your head into his chest and you get to inhale his scent once more. Doing your best not to outright sob.
“I was the mess.” He blurts. “I was scared, okay? I was scared that Billy was gonna turn everyone against me, and I was scared that I ruined Motleys Christmas.”
You scoff, trying to pull away, not really believing the excuse. Before you can fully move he wraps an arm around your waist, his other hand moving to your jaw to drag your eyes up to his own. “I was scared. I was a coward.”
“But-“
“No buts. I didn’t leave cause I thought you were a mess, baby I think you’re perfect and your daughters are so fucking precious to me. I…. You really thought I was running cause I couldn’t handle it?”
“I just-“
“Y/n!” Your boss calls from the door, looking exasperated. “You gettin sick again? Need to go? Or you wanna get paid so you can afford maternity leave?”
You tense again under Eddie’s touch, stomach curling as you try and take a step back while Eddie’s brows knit in confusion before he turns to glare at your boss. “She’s sick.”
“Fine. Take her home. Just have to transfer tables.” The man snaps, turning to walk back in before Eddie is whirling on you.
“Am I crazy or did he just say maternity leave?”
“Eddie….” You sigh, feeling saliva build up as you panic. He watches you, taking a step back just as you lean forward to puke.
The car ride is silent. Not the serene kind of quiet and more so the anxiety inducing type.
You had no clue what to say to him at this point. Suddenly everything just seemed to….. silly. You’re reaction and his reaction. You should have just called. Why hadn’t you called?
No, he should have called.
You were being a decent person and giving him space and “mama?”
“Yeah?”
“Can I sleep with you and daddy tonight?”
“Ya!” Ziggy yells, making Eddie chuckle under his breath as he leans to turn the heater in the car up. It had been forever since you had ridden in this van, since he deemed it unacceptable to drive the girls around in since it lacked seatbelts or a backseat. Even now everytime he braked he means a hand out to block the girls even with Ziggy in your lap.
“I don’t know…”
“Please! Please please.”
“We will talk about it when we get home.”
Only there was no talking about it, the second you got home with the girls Motley ran to throw away her to go milkshake cup then dashed to your bed quickly which turned into a screaming fit when you tried to tell her no.
The word condom just kept circling your mind as you finally just told her to lay down, she did so and Ziggy soon made her appearance to crawl onto the bed.
Eddie takes off his shoes. Moving to lay with the girls as you turn off one of the lights so the room was dark enough for them to fall asleep, and then you shuffle to the bathroom to shower before bed so you didn’t smell like grease and beer.
It wasn’t even 10 minutes before you heard the door open and shut softly, you turn already knowing he is heading for the shower and watch as the curtain opens lightly.
Normally he would jump right in like he belonged there which would make you laugh, tonight he had a questioning gaze, trying not to over step. You give him a small nod and then the curtain is pushed aside and he dives in, still in his shirt and jeans.
“Edward-“ you warn before his lips are on yours in a searing kiss. He keeps one hand on your jaw to keep your lips connected as his other wraps around your back to keep you close as the water runs over both of you getting his clothes soaked. By the time you pull back he’s already working his way down your neck with kisses as you earn him again “clothes.”
The hand holding your jaw moves to cover your mouth quickly as he peers at you, giving you a fake angry expression that has you laughing. “Do not wake our kids.” He whispers before stepping back to undress.
The jeans take a moment to shuck off since they were wet but the second he is free Eddie dives for you again, showing up just how much he missed you.
-
You sit with him on the floor of the kitchen by the fridge, using the light above the oven as your only source of light while you both snack, keeping cuddled together in nothing but your robes.
Nothing has been said yet, and you were just fine with that, exhausted and happy that he was there. But he has to ruin it, of course he does.
“I’m still sorry.” He murmurs, scraping the cream of one side of an Oreo using the empty side.
“I am too. I think we’re both incredibly stupid right now.”
“You’re telling me.” He blushes. “I just…. There was a time in my life when I hated Uncle Wayne. I had this image in my mind that he was trying to tear me away from my dad. Fuck I just wanted to be with my dad, I looked up to him whether he beat me or not and- the way I treated Wayne and the way I hated him….. my dad didn’t help, everytime I went back with him my mom and I just ended right back up at Wayne’s with more bruises than last time. And when she passed I was the only one there to inflict it. Wayne for him arrested and I swore my world was ending, swore I would never talk to Wayne again.”
“You thought that was what was going on with Motley? That she felt like you were tearing her and her dad apart?”
“Yes and no. I just was trying to prevent that from happening, I didn’t want her to have to experience that choice.” He whispers, picking at the robe. “I just wanted to protect her.”
“She wanted to protect you too.” You whisper back. “That’s love.”
“Billy told her that…. That I was gonna try and replace her.” He gulps, and you stop smiling instantly. “And now that you’re pregnant, and as happy as I am because I am so happy, I need to make sure she knows that I’m not trying to replace her.”
“We’ll make it work.” You mumble, laying your head on his shoulder. “We always do”
He hums out, laying his head on top of yours and sitting in the silence for a moment before you break it once more. “Where are your rings?”
“Haven’t worn them since I got arrested.” He answers, holding up his bare hands. “My fingers were too bruised and swollen at first, then I just couldn’t care to put them on.”
“Eddie?”
“Yeah?”
“Let’s go to bed..”
“Give me five more minutes.” He whispers, turning his head to kiss your own, keeping his nose pressed into your hair.
“Why?”
“I just…. I just want to be near you for a little longer.”
The sun peaks through the curtains, hitting Eddie right in the face which in return makes him groan out, moving the pillow around to try and block it. I’m his attempt to move Ziggy wiggles around, giving a displeased noise that her dad woke her up from sleeping before moving to lay right on his chest.
Motley does not move an inch, mouth wide open and eyes sealed shut, Eddie has to reach a hand out to poke her and make sure she’s not dead.
She wrinkles her nose, moving closer and shoving her face in your pillow, staying peacefully asleep.
You’re sitting at the edge of the bed, and he can only blink at you trying to straighten his eyesight as he watches you zip up your work boots. (For some reason I imagine go go boots with the 70s look. I don’t know guys. I….. I have no clue).
“You going to work?” He blurts, making you jump.
“Sorry, yeah. Max will be here soon to watch the girls. We agreed on it last night before I left.” You mumble, moving to grab your apron.
“I can watch em….” He whispers, staring at you. The way the sun from the window hits you makes you look angelic.
“Okay.” You smile, moving to kiss Motley and Ziggys heads before you move to walk away. Fully offended Eddie snatches your hand and draws you back, annoyed at the shit eating grin on your face.
“Baby,” he whines making you let out a small laugh and lean down to kiss his lips before rushing to leave.
He lays with the girls for a little longer making sure the blanket is covering all three of them before the day truly has to start and he forces himself to get up. Setting Ziggy down without waking her up was a difficult task but he managed, shuffling to the bathroom to change into todays clothes, thankful that he no longer has to wear all the shit clothes he left at Wayne’s when he originally moved out.
Upon exiting the bathroom he nearly trips over Motley, who had been sitting in front of the door. “What are you doing Metalhead?”
“You took forever…” she whines, wrapping herself around his calf which makes him smile. “I wanna stay with you.”
“Okay,” he answers, moving down to peel her off his leg and letting her climb up for a piggy back. “You’re gonna help me make breakfast then.”
“Waffles?”
“We’ll just have to wait and see.” He smirks, walking down the hall as the front door opens to reveal Max.
“Hey. Sorry I’m late.” She rushes out, face red from running. “I woke up a little late and-“
“It’s no problem. I’m here if you had other things to do.” Eddie offers. “Or you can stay and have some breakfast?”
“Sounds great. I’m kinda ignoring the rest of the group right now.” She explains, setting her bag down and following them into the kitchen. Eddie gets Max set up at the table, trying to set Motley with her but the girl wiggles and whines so he allows her to stay.
He listens to Max rant about the group as he moves around to make waffles, enjoying the easy feeling he gets being here. God why did he ever leave home?
“-And Lucas is just always set out to fight Erica. You’d think he had a crush on Dustin and wanted to date him. You know? I get it, your baby sister starts dating your closest friend. A little weird. But get over it!”
“I think Uncle Dustin and Auntie Erica are so cute!” Motley adds which makes Eddie chuckle a bit.
“Lucas is upset because he always thought they were in agreement that Erica was annoying.” He explains, bending down to set Motley down and bring the food to the table. “But it’s been months. Time to move on.”
“Exactly!” Max sighs right as Ziggy comes pounding in with an angry look.
“Alone….” She whines and Eddie smiles at her. “Aweee did you wake up alone? My poor little baby.” He coos, picking her up and bringing her close to kiss before setting her on his lap to help her eat. He already knew she would not be into the high chair based on the way even Motley was clinging to him.
Even now, as she used a spoon to shove waffles in her mouth, she kept a hand on his own arm to keep him close.
“I’m gonna work on mamas car today.” He explains. “I’ll be right outside. So maybe you girls can stay in here and keep Max company.”
“I wanna stay with you.” Motley whines, giving him puppy dog eyes.
“No it’s too cold. You stay in here. Okay?” And then Eddie gave her his puppy dog eyes. Oh yeah, can’t beat dads game.
She groans and looks at Max who smiles in return. “I’ve been practicing my barbie voices just for you.”
“Fine! But barbie is married to G.I. Joe! Ken is the villain. We’re not arguing about it again.”
“But isn’t it Barbie and Ken? Wouldn’t Joe be the villain?”
“Maxine.” Motley warns, slamming her tiny hand on the table.
“Fine. Got it.”
-
It didn’t last long.
Eddie had put on his mechanic suit, trying to keep warm as he took a look at what was going on with your car. 15 minutes in Motley came out wearing her snowsuit and smiling. “Look daddy! I can help!”
“I thought I said to stay inside-“ a laugh breaks out when she takes off the hood of the snow suit to reveal that she tied a bandana over her head like a hat. “That’s not how you tie it. Come here.”
He helps her tie it like his, telling her to sit a little closer to the grass as he keeps working, making sure the radio is on a station she would like as he does so.
By the time you get home she is making snow angels in the snow of the lawn as he curses under his breath.
“What’s going on?” You ask, making him jump and hit his head on the hood of your car. “Oh! I’m so sorr-“
“It’s good. I’m good.” He laughs, letting you fuss over him anyways. He takes his chance to kiss at you before you are pulling back.
“You are covered in car nastiness-“
“You mean grease and oil?” He laughs, keeping you trapped in his arms to rub his cheek on your shoulder. You yell out playfully, still trying to escape as he does so.
“Does this mean you guys are good?” Steve appears, dustin behind him. “Are you done being mad at me Y/n?”
“I was never mad at you!” Eddie keeps his arms around you as you turn to look at Steve, making sure Motley is good.
“Yes you were. I waved at you the other night and you completely ignored me.”
“I didn’t see you wave.” You reply and Eddie can’t help but laugh.
“I called your name!”
“It was a busy restaurant, how am I supposed to hear everything.” You scoff, pulling from Eddie’s arms and flipping your hair. “Come on Motley. Let’s go inside.”
“Just admit you saw me wave!” Steve groans, following you to the door before Motley turns to shove him and close the door in his face. “Rude!”
“Steve, did you just get beat up by a kid?” Dustin laughs.
“It’s Eddie’s kid. Does that count?”
“My kids are great!”
Things took a moment to get back to normal, but that was to be expected.
Eddie found the folder of all your research on places to go, running his fingers over the math you sprawled across the pages to figure out how you would afford it, he promptly threw it in the trash bins outside.
Motley stayed glued to Eddie as much as she could, and in the mornings when he had to get up for work she made sure to wake him up and give him a kiss by the door making sure that he swore to come back before she would dash down the hall and lay with you.
Makeup Christmas happened, except it was only Wayne that was invited and instead of a whole feast you guys ordered a crap ton of Chinese food.
Wayne came over early, sneaking around the back and coming in through the back door which confused the girls to no end but they were excited to see their grandpa.
Ziggy also proved that she learned 2 more words by saying “shit grandpa!” All excited and reaching her hands up for him to grab her.
He howls with laughter, scooping her up and throwing her in the air as she screams in excitement.
Everyone sits around the tree opening gifts, Wayne on the couch with Ziggy on his lap helping her open the gifts. Eddie sat by the tree, passing them out with Motley right by him and you next to her.
He pulls out an envelope that has his name sprawled on it and looks at you.
“I had a plan for Christmas. But I kind of had to redo it. I planned on giving you the stick, but figured since you already know I’d get the ultrasound.” Yoh blush, watching his excitedly tear it open.
It’s quiet for a moment as everyone watches him admire the photo, smiling from ear to ear.
“Anything you notice?” You ask, waiting.
“What do you mean?” He asks, before Wayne snaps his fingers and grabs the photo gently.
“There’s two.” Wayne grunts before his eyes light up. “You’re having twins!”
“Obviously….” Eddie mumbles, “we already knew that?”
“What?”
“The stick? It had two blue lines? So that means we’re having twin boys? Right?” Eddie mumbles, staring at you like your crazy.
It’s quiet for a moment as you and Wayne process what he said before you burst into laughter, the girls following even though they had no clue what was going on.
“Not even close boy!” Wayne cackles as you have to wipe some of the tears from your eyes.
“Does that mean you’re pregnant mommy?” Motley asks, turning to look at you with wide eyes. Your heart stops, going back to what Eddie had told you.
“Yes. Mommy is pregnant .” You wait to see her reaction and Eddie finds himself reaching for the gift he had added two days ago. “Motty. I have something for you.”
He snatches the tiny box, holding it out to her. “It’s a really important gift though. Okay?”
She nods slowly, taking the box from him and opening it just as slow. Inside held a simple chain necklace, but when she pulled it out it revealed that he had hung his mothers ring on it, the one he normally wore on his right hand by itself. “I was told to give this ring to someone very special. It’s from my own mom.”
She gasps, turning to him. “You’re giving it to me?!”
“Well yeah! You’re my oldest kid. My firstborn.” He laughs, moving to help her put it on. Then he snatches another box and hands it to her. “This one is for both you and your sister.”
She reaches for it and opens it gently, pulling out a heavy chain that has a dog tag connected to it. “Another necklace?”
“Well…..” Wayne laughs, flipping it to reveal what the dog tag says.
“Who is Zeppeplin?”
“Zeppelin, baby.” You correct, already standing up.
“Who is Zeppelin?” She giggles, which makes Eddie laugh, picking her up by her armpits to make her stand as you go and open the back door.
The dog, a young little puppy at most, snaps his head to the noise and wags it’s tail excitedly upon seeing you.
“Come in!” You smile and he bolts from his spot tearing up sticks to get inside. Once he hits the threshold of the house he is everywhere. Sniffing the fridge to the chairs, jumping on his hind legs to clean up the high chair where Ziggy left her banana. After inhaling that he bolts to explore more, completely missing the living room as he bolts down the hall to sniff all the rooms.
Once Motley sees the flash of fur she screams in excitement, which draws the puppy back and they both just feed off each others excitement.
She’s jumping up and down, screaming in excitement and the dog starts howling to match her while his butt starts wiggling at how hard he is wagging his tail.
“I am so excited for Chinese later.” Wayne murmurs, coming to hug you as Eddie tries to calm both the noisemakers down. “Thank you for inviting me.”
“Of course, you’re grandpa.” You smile, watching Ziggy from his arms just stare intently at the scene before her. “She can’t tell whether to be excited or scared.”
Wayne laughs, pointing to the dog and trying to help Ziggy see him.
Later that evening everyone sits around the table, Max with you all, as you pile Chinese food onto the plates. Motley keeps showing Max the necklace she got while Wayne keeps bragging to Eddie about his new Jean jacket.
Zeppelin chooses to sit by Ziggy, and it’s very clear that the dog has already figured out who will drop the most food. Ziggy giggles every time she drops a piece of broccoli and he catches it.
“Now we’re gonna have to watch her every time we give her veggies.” Eddie groans. “She’s got an accomplice!”
“Zeppy and Ziggy!” Motley cheers like their superheroes.
February rolls around soon enough, and your daughters biggest catastrophe had nothing to do with the restraining order on Billy, or her dads new bike (which she was terrified of). No. Motleys world was ending over valentines cards.
Eddie had helped her pick them out, little heart shaped cards that you could stick lollipops in, and had sat with her to write in them as you took Ziggy in for a haircut.
The only one that Motley had not written a card for was Troy, and now the morning of Valentine’s Day she was still panicking.
“I can’t write love cause then he will want to get married!” She explains and Eddie nods like it’s super serious. “And I can’t write like, because then he will know I have a crush on him!”
“Glad you can admit it.” He nods and she rolls her eyes. “Here’s an idea! Okay, you ready metal head?”
“Ready daddy!”
“You can write ‘from Motley’.” He laughs, watching her face go serious.
“That’s what I wrote on the others!”
“Exactly.” He watches as she thinks about it before nodding quickly and writing it down, tossing it in her valentines box and dashing to grab her backpack.
“She finally figure out Troys?” You ask, shuffling Ziggy in. “It’s been days.”
“She did. We decided on writing ‘from motley’.” He smiles, leaning forward to kiss you before leaning down to kiss your stomach then Ziggy.
“Stevie….” Ziggy giggles, running to the phone. It didn’t take long to figure out that she would be the one to run the phone bill up, even now she spent every morning learning to dial her uncle Steve’s number. She dialed Dustin once but deemed him “poopoo head.”
“Nuh uh. Come eat pretty girl.” Eddie calls, pointing to her chair. “Zeppelin is waiting.”
The dog, who just a month ago had been tiny enough to lay under her chair, now sat at full height beside it. Still a puppy, just bigger.
Ziggy runs, her little pigtails bouncing as Eddie picks her up by the overalls to sit her in the chair. Now trained Ziggy eats his dog food beside her rather than everything she drops, and if somehow someway some of her waffle drops in his bowl then it can’t really be considered his fault.
“Motley, hurry up baby.” You call. “We gotta go.”
“You good to pick Wayne up?” Eddie asks, moving to grab his lunch.
“Yes. I’ll drop Motley off at school and go and grab him.” Wayne had injured his hip, so today you’ll be taking him to the doctors to see what the plan was while Eddie went to work.
“Okay. And Ziggy is still good to-?”
“Ziggy and Zeppelin are going to Nancy’s, yes.” You smile. Nancy had just given birth to her third boy, and she liked having Ziggy over because she liked having another girl in the house.
“Okay. Tell me how it goes?” He asks, leaning to give you one more goodbye kiss as you nod before moving to say bye to Motley. “BYE BEAUTIFUL LADIES!”
The day had started off so well, you should have known it would only go downhill from there.
Wayne sat in the passenger seat of your car, irritated and ranting about shitty doctors. “I’m not doing it. You hear me? Just give me some Tylenol and I’ll be fine.”
“MOMMY!” Ziggy screams, from her spot on her car seat.
The doctor had told Wayne he needed hip surgery and could not work, which meant that Wayne was pissed and you were panicking about what to do. He couldn’t work which meant he wouldn’t be able to make rent and he would need some help to move around. Then when you got to Steve and Nancy’s she had told you that Ziggy had taken quite a stumble off the table and scratched her chin on the corner of the table.
It was a mess.
Both of them were not having a good day and Zeppelin was howling at their ranting and screaming and as much as you loved them you truly debated crashing the car.
Then you got home to yelling.
Eddie stood in the living room, still in his work attire with his hands on his hips and his eyes wide. “You’re in rare fucking form today, you know that?!”
The response to his question is met with a demonic scream from down the hall and you can only assume that Motley was having a bad time as well.
“I’m not getting a surgery, you hear me Edward?” Wayne snaps, limping to the couch.
“What the fuck are you on now?” He snaps back, looking at him annoyed as Ziggy rushes past crying. “What the fuck is going on?”
“It’s apparently a meltdown day.” You sigh, moving to kiss his cheek and go into the kitchen to make a snack for yourself.
Todays pregnancy craving was potato chips with lime juice and pickles, Eddie watches from the entrance of the kitchen with a smile as you settle at the table and enjoy your snack.
He moves and takes the seat next to you, following your lead on snacks.
“Why is Metalhead in ‘rare fucking form’ today?” You giggle, watching his face pinch in annoyance.
“I pick her up and she gets in the car, right? And then she just starts screaming at me! And I mean screaming. The entire ride home! And from what I gather Vinny didn’t give her a valentines card.” He explains. “God. She was yelling like she was possessed. Then I tried explaining that maybe it was lost and that made it worse.”
“Did she get one from Troy?”
“I don’t know. I don’t think she cares either.” He sighs, rubbing his jaw.
“Okay, we let her ride out the fit in her room. We’ll call Steve later to see what happened.”
“Sounds great to me.” He smiles. “She scared me a little. Threatened to cut her hair and everything. Then threatened to cut MY hair.”
A small laugh tears from you as he steals the potato chip in your hand before looking to Wayne’s direction. “They recommend surgery?”
“It wasn’t a recommendation.” You sigh, grabbing his hand and tracing the tattoo. “I think we need to move the house around.”
“What?”
“If Wayne gets surgery he needs to be here. I’ll cut back shifts at the diner and help him out.” You start. “He won’t be able to use the stairs so maybe we can move our room downstairs which would give more room for the twins cribs in our room, but Ziggy has problems with the stairs and she likes coming in to sleep with us cause of the nightmares but-“
“Easy. Easy.” Eddie mumbles, turning his hand up quickly to snatch your hand and pull it to his lips. “We’ll figure it out.”
And so you did.
Eddie moved the house around, and turned the basement into a bedroom for you guys. Now with more room and your own bathroom down here he could set up the cribs.
Wayne took your old room, and though the man threw a fit the girls got excited that Grandpa Wayne would be living here now.
He got the surgery in the beginning of March, and Motley and Vinny were still fighting.
You spent your days helping Wayne, taking him to pt and helping him move around the house.
Motley and Vinny got put into separate classes which lead to a whole argument between Steve and Eddie about whose kid was the one to blame.
Life was a bit of a mess.
It all came to head at the children's father dance.
Eddie had dressed in a tux, making sure he looked good as you got Motley ready for the night. With Wayne napping on the couch with Ziggy asleep on his chest drooling (a daily nap these two took) Zeppelin follows at your feet, keeping close to you as you did Motley's hair.
“How do I look?” Eddie asks from the door of the bathroom. “I have a date tonight and I’m really nervous.”
“Daddy!” Motley giggles, rushing to him in her puffy little skirt, hugging him tightly.
“Alright you two. Let me get a picture.” You smile, rushing past to find where the camera had gone. By the time you got a picture of them Motley was rushing Eddie out, ready for the dance.
He struggles to find parking, and ends up finding one right next to Steve’s car, rolling his eyes when he sees Harrington fixing his jacket while Vinny reads in the car.
“Harrington.” He greets coldly, fixing his leather jacket and moving to open the door for his daughter.
“Munson.” Steve matches the tone, scoffing at Eddie’s jacket. “Little Munson.”
“Uncle Steve.” She huffs, fixing her hair.
“Really? A leather jacket Edward?”
“You look like you stepped off a Queen music video, Steven.” Eddie snaps, holding out his hand for Motley. Fighting or not they wait at the front of the car for Steve and Vinny. Walking into the dance together.
“I’m surprised that they even let you in here. Your child is a danger to society.” Steve snaps as they wait in line for tickets.
“Let’s talk about your kid giving everyone but my sweet Angel a valentines card. That’s barbaric.” Eddie defends, watching Motley wave to her friends.
“He didn’t want to. And I don’t need to tell him what to do.” Steve blushes, turning to look at something to avoid looking at Eddie.
“There it is again. You’re acting so fucking suspicious about that card, man.” Eddie points at him, silver rings glinting in the light. “Tell me what you know.”
“Tickets?” The poor woman asks, interrupting their stand off.
“Yes please. Four.”
“No two. I’ll get my tickets.”
“No I’ll get them”
“You’re not buying me ,Steven.”
“He’s buying me.” Motley smiles, snatching the money from Steve’s hands and setting them on the table before grabbing two tickets. “Let’s go get some pop, daddy.”
Eddie can do nothing but follow, letting the little lady lead the way.
After about an hour of Motley showing him everything and introducing him to all her friends she abandoned him to hang out with some of the girls in her class, making sure Eddie was okay where he sat at an empty table nursing a can of soda.
It felt like high school again, watching the way all the other dads surrounded Harrington as the pta moms that decorated huddled together and giggled in the corner. At least the kids were having fun.
Eddie wished you were here, you would be sitting with him.
“Jesus. Gary never shuts up.” Steve mumbles, snapping Eddie out of his train of thought. “I got you a slice of pizza.”
He sets the slice down, giving Eddie a weird smile as he scarfs down his own slice. But eddie wasn’t very hungry, instead he surveyed to check on motley and see her giggling with all her friends as they dance in a circle.
“Your kid has been sitting alone, you gonna help?” Eddie asks, looking to where Vinny sits reading a book.
“I tried earlier. He just said something about me embarrassing him more.” Steve sighs. “Then complained that I ruin everything.”
“What happened? I’ve never seen him alone at a party.”
“Have I not told you? Your daughter is the popular one. They made her move classes and he was left in their old class struggling to make friends.” Steve mumbles.
“Why don’t you get one of the many dads following you around to get their kids over there? It feels like I’m in highschool again, waiting for your cronies to shove me in the bathrooms and lock me in again.”
“How long were you in that bathroom, again? Two hours?”
“Three.” Eddie sighs. “I smoked and set off an alarm so the principal found me.”
“Sorry.”
“Wasnt one of your worst. I was fine.” Eddie shrugs. “Sorry about Vinny.”
“I have faith.” Steve sighs, leaning back in his chair. “I also cannot believe I’m at a daddy daughter dance.”
“It’s a father kid dance?”
“They didn’t want the boys feeling left out.” Steve explains.
“I see.” Eddie smiles, picking at the pizza.
“He wrote one. You know?”
“Sorry?”
“Vinny wrote one. He wrote a valentine for Motley and got her a big chocolate bar. But a girl made fun of him in the parking lot and he panicked.” Steve explains. “Ripped it up and left the chocolate on my car to melt on the seats.”
“I can clean that.”
“You can?!”
“Oh yeah. I got you Harrington.” Eddie laughs right as another dad comes to the table.
“Howdy gentleman.” He smiles, sitting down. Eddie has to blink to recognize, holy shit that’s Tommy. “Oooo. I’m sitting at the hellfire table. So scary…”
“Do you have a kid here…?” Steve asks, blinking slowly.
“Yeah.” He slurs, pointing to the young kid stuffing his face with marshmallows.  “You guys want some whiskey?”
“Jesus. I smell it from here man.” Steve snaps, standing up.
“I’m driving. Hard pass.” Eddie laughs, standing with Steve.
“It’s so weird to me that you two are friends! That shit is like….. mind flowing!”
“Blowing.” Steve corrects and Eddie sighs. “Damn it Harrington. It was a trap.”
“Blowing is more for you guys, if you know what I mean.” Tommy laughs and Eddie shakes his head.
“How did you fall for that Harrington? You made that line.” Eddie grumbles, moving to find Motley. “Hey Metalhead?”
“Yeah daddy?” She asks, coming up with her cheeks bright red from all the dancing.
“Have you eaten?” He asks, offering her a bite of his pizza before looking back over to Vinny. “Think you can go help him out?”
“Yeah. I guess.” She sighs, kissing his cheek and rushing to find Vinny and bring him out to dance.
By the end of the night Eddie has danced to about every little pop song she wants, and by the time he is bringing her to the car it’s more of a carrying her situation as Steve tries to trip Vinny up.
“Have a good night Harringtons.” Eddie laughs.
“Sleep tight Munsons.”
“Shouldn't you be in bed?” Eddie asks, peering up at you over his book as you shuffle and pace around the room.
“Shut up.” You grunt, waving your hand at him. Your face is pinched up and Eddie finds himself sitting up and staring at you.
“What’s going on here?”
“Edward shut UP!” You snap, pacing back to the wall and holding your hands against it to try and breathe in. “Sorry. Sorry that was mean.”
“Are you in pain?” He mumbles, standing up and putting on his slippers.
It was your ninth month, and Eddie was anxious because he had never experienced the pregnancy part of it all before so every kick and movement made him worried.
“Eddie. Edward. Eds.” You grunt out, and right there something trickles down your leg.
“Did you just pee?”
“EDWARD!”
(Would you guys want me to keep going? I have more ideas {Especially Motley in high school} Feel free to message me if you want me to keep going or if you have any blurbs or requests for them in mind)

@revretch and I are almost done this book, because we do both really love these characters and their spooky world to this day, but we’ve also now spent much of the book’s third act picking it apart and making fun of its terrible decisions, which include (SPOILERS)
All the other holiday worlds are just populated with humans?
The main antagonist ends up being the Sandman who puts almost everyone in existence to sleep except for Sally, so a LOT of the book is Sally wandering places where no one else is conscious.
Because of this, there is no character exploration or development for anyone but Sally, barely any time even spent with Jack.
This brings us to “Dreamtown,” an ancient world that pre-dates all holidays. Instead of some amazing fantasy land it’s just a city where everybody wears pajamas.
The only exception is that some people in Dreamtown are rag dolls, like Sally.
Oh no.
Yes, this author really went “never mind Sally’s abusive upbringing, she was just kidnapped and has a REAL loving family waiting for her!” I even had a great family myself and I hate this trope, it feels condescending to kids with shitty parents.
Sally, a character famous for being able to break apart and sew herself back together, not only never once uses this in the entire book but is terrified of injury.
In fact, Sally is terrified by a lot of things in this story. Ernshaw seemingly remembered that Sally was sweet, quiet and kind compared to the other Halloween monsters, but forgot that she fearlessly went after Oogie Boogie, that she was totally unimpressed by horror of any kind, and again that she is INVULNERABLE TO MOST FORMS OF HARM.
I know it’s a book for kids but it basically has less tension or character development than the movie it’s actually based on, a lot less. I can’t find much online about the author or her other work, but I get the sense she wasn’t really feeling it, and powering through it for that Disney paycheck. Also THE MOST OBNOXIOUS THING OF ALL: Sally’s core “dilemma” is that she’s not really enthused to be a queen.......until she visits the human world, briefly. Everyone there is asleep of course, but then she finds, I shit you not, QUEEN ELIZABETH II, and there are MULTIPLE PAGES devoted to how the sight of Queen Elizabeth inspires Sally to embrace a love of monarchy. The queen is described as having a “magnificence” even lying asleep in a chair, that just looking at her communicates the “soul” of a queen.
This book is Royal Family wank disguised as a Nightmare Before Christmas sequel.

No one is permitted to copying my work, reblogging it as their own, or stealing it!!
You’ve always been a bit insecure when it comes to dating Nat. People often judge you both on the age gap and you hate to admit that it gets to you. Nat always reassured you that she loved you no matter how old you are but that feeling would still rise, especially seeing the online comments. Many people were jealous and wanted to share their opinions on the relationship as if it mattered. You’d try your best to ignore it but it hurt seeing how many people wanted you guys to fall apart.
It was nearing Christmas time and you were excited, you wanted to decorate and do all the things you dreamed of when you were young. You planned to make a gingerbread house, bake some cookies, and decorate the entire place. When you told Nat your idea she was more than willing to try all of the things you listed, she never got to have that as a kid so she was almost as excited as you are. You just returned home with some of the baking equipment and were headed into the kitchen when you saw Nat there.
“Oh hey Nat! I have all the stuff for the cookies and the gingerbread house so whenever you want to make them is fine.” When you got excited you often spoke in a ramble, it was something you always did. This was one of those times.
“God can you slow down, it’s annoying.” Nat said in an annoyed groan, still not facing you. You felt embarrassed, she never got mad at you for rambling, she said it was cute. So why does she all of the sudden hate it?
“I’m sorry Nat, you know me I guess I’m just excited,” you said in a nervous chuckle, trying to break the awkward aroma. “Well when would you want to build the gingerbread house? Or we could bake the cookies first if you want.” The thrill came back as you thought of all the fun you’d both have together. Making terrible designs on the gingerbread house that ended up falling over, causing a fit of laughs. Baking the cookies and the others trying to steal them, even watching a movie together while snacking on them. Your smile altered at Nat’s next words,
“Can you shut up about those stupid Christmas things! They’re for children, I’m 34 I don’t want to do that shit anymore!” Nat exclaimed as she finally turned to look at you. You were confused, one minute she was happy to try out the idea and the next she’s complaining about it?
“They’re not just for children Nat, I like to do it too.” You muttered, nervous for her reaction. No matter how tough you are Nat still had the control over you, making you often fear her more than one should.
“Exactly my point. You’re basically a fucking child Y/N, you’re 21. You’re barely able to even drink for Christ sakes.” She took a long breath before continuing, “you know maybe all those people were right, maybe you are too young for me.” She whispered but you still heard it.
“Nat, you don’t mean that.” You were hoping she didn’t, you couldn’t live without her.
“Yes I do. I don’t think we should see each other anymore.” Your heart was breaking, it’s as if you could feel it. You stood there with tears in your eyes looking at her with desperation. She showed no emotion like usual.
“Fine if that’s what you want, then consider me gone. I won’t annoy you anymore, and you can be with someone your age, someone more mature. And I guess I should give you this,” you reached into the small bag looking for the item. “Here.” You said as you put the small box in her hand.
“What-what’s this?” She questioned, opening the box to find a small ring.
“It was a promise ring. A promise that no matter what I’ll always love you and that I’ll always care for you. It was supposed to be a Christmas present but that went down the drain” She looked at you with tears filling her eyes, it was the first time in weeks you saw actual emotions from her.
“Y/N-“ “Don’t. I don’t want to hear it. Goodbye Nat, I guess I’ll see you around.” You ignored her calls for you as you went towards your room. Even though you both were dating you had separate rooms, you didn’t go in yours often as you’re always in Nat’s. You sat on your bed letting out all your emotions, crying into your hands as the realization hit you, she’s gone. She broke up with you like you meant nothing to her. The rest of the night was spent crying into your pillow as you were left alone. Whenever you’d cry Nat was always there to hold you, but not this time. This time she wasn’t there at all. The next morning you got ready and went down to Fury. It was hard to get dressed and put on a happy face but you were determined to show Nat what she was truly missing out on. Going to the SHIELDS department you requested to see the older man, insisting it was urgent. The lady let you into his office and you sat down on the chair in-front of him.
“I hear there is urgent news miss Y/L/N but it sure doesn’t look urgent.” He says, sitting back in his chair ready to listen to whatever you had to say. You had a close bond with him, he was like a dad to Nat so he softened up to you over time.
“I would like a mission.” You stated with no hesitation in your voice. He looked at you for a moment until he sighed and looked at a folder.
“The only mission at the moment is one that Ms. Hill is going on. You can join her or wait for another.” You considered your options, going with Maria or having to see Nat longer. You chose the first, knowing you wouldn’t be able to look at Nat after yesterday.
Two hours later you both were getting situated on the quinjet getting ready to leave.
“So, you gonna tell me why you took this mission out of the blue or do I have to assume that you just love me so much.” Maria broke the silence, a sarcastic smile on her face. You scoffed jokingly and answered her question.
“Well me and Nat kind of broke up yesterday. She said I was too young for her and I guess I just can’t stand to look at her right now.” You tried your best to not let your voice crack but it did. Maria picked up on it and let out a sigh, pulling you into her to give you a hug.
“She’s probably just going through some things right now, she most likely didn’t mean it. And hey, if she doesn’t want you I’m always here.” She gave you a wink and you laughed at her actions.
“See I already got you laughing again, point 1 to Maria and 0 to Nat.” Smiling at her in appreciation you went over to the control pad and pressed the auto-fly button. You sat down in a seat next to her and she looked over at you with a little grin marking her face. You blushed and looked away from her gaze. Usually Nat would be pissed if she saw you with Maria knowing how the woman loved to flirt with you, but she wasn’t here right now. You didn’t have to worry about her anymore because as she said, it’s over.
Back at the compound Nat was failing to make breakfast for you. The toast was basically burnt and so was the eggs, the pancake wasn’t even fully cooked but she tried. She was walking to your room with everything in her hands, planning to apologize and explain everything. Her heart shattered when she saw the ring you were going to give her. She didn’t mean to take out her frustration on you but she did and she can’t go back now. Last night she spent staring at your empty side of the bed, a strand left on the pillow from the morning before. She remembers your happy face telling her all about the plans, you only wanted to do it because neither of you got much of a childhood. It broke her to think she took your biggest fear and used it against you, she took out her own insecurities onto you.
Knocking on the door she waited for a response, and then waited some more. Figuring you were asleep she opened the door herself. When seeing the empty bed she looked in the bathroom but it was also empty. Putting the plate of food down she went around the entire compound looking for you. She called Fury asking if he’s seen you only to hear that you went on a mission. She was glad you weren’t alone until Fury said you went with Agent Hill. She cursed and hung up the phone pacing around the room. She pictured the worst that could happen to you, what if you got hurt? What if Maria finally made a move on you knowing you’re single? God she was an idiot, how could she let you go?
Back with you and Maria the two of you were quietly entering a run down building. You both heard small chatter and made a plan, you go behind she goes in front. You snuck around the building without causing any noise while Maria stayed where she was. The both of you were about to move in until you saw someone sneaking behind your teammate. You yelled out to her only to realize your mistake, the guys all heard you and Maria turned around only to be hit with a needle to her neck. You tried everything you could to take them down but it was no use, there was thirteen of them against one of you. They held you down as the same man took a different needle and stuck it in your neck just like he did moments ago with the other.
You awoke only to find yourself locked up in some, cage? It looked like a cell with how large it was but it had the same features as a cage. You heard noises coming from the left of you, looking only to spot Maria in an identical box.
“Look who’s finally awake.” Said one of the buff men. He chuckled with his friends as they all stared at the two of you. You’ve never been stuck in a situation like this where you had no hope of leaving. You noticed your ear piece was missing only to find them messing with it. You could slightly hear voices coming from the communication source until they destroyed it right in front of you.
“Now, shall we have some fun?” The man grabbed you had no choice but to comply. Maria yelled through her gag as she watched you be taken away to be dealt with. She prayed she could get out of this and save you before anything happened. She analyzed the place to find something that could get her out but came up empty handed. She didn’t want to give up but there was no hope, she could already hear your screams from a distance and there was no way out, this was how you would die.
Twenty-two minutes passed and each second your screams got louder and louder. She didn’t want to cry in front of these guys but she couldn’t help it, her friend was most likely going to be dead in the next few minutes. The building slightly shook as everyone looked around to see what caused it, only for a red suit of armor to come flying through the roof. They all pulled out their guns as they started to shoot only to be attacked with a shield from behind. She saw a black suited figure running towards your voice, Nat. Gun shots rang throughout the building as did arms and fists, one by one the bad guys were dealt with. Maria felt someone taking off her gag and handcuffs only to see it was Steve doing so. She was helped onto the quinjet as you were passed out on a chair. When Nat found you she couldn’t take her eyes off of you, not because of your beauty but this time because of what marked your body. Bruises and cuts were left all over and she could only imagine what happened to you. She saw the man fleeing and told the Wanda to go find him, she wanted him to pay for what he did to you. She untied you and carried you bridal style to the quinjet. When everyone was in and safe they took off, she laid you down and immediately went to Maria.
“What the fuck were you thinking? Letting Y/N go on this mission with you and then not even protecting her?” Nat yelled in the agents face, clear pain and regret written on her face. Maria felt terrible about what happened to you but she knew she wasn’t to blame.
“You’re blaming me? All mission I did my best to protect her from anything but she got hurt because she wanted me to live! She was unselfish, something you wouldn’t be able to understand.” Nat was going to speak but she didn’t let her.
“She wanted to go on this mission to get away from you, to prove that she wasn’t just a child. If anything it’s your fault for using their insecurities against them and breaking up with them! And guess what, if they’re dead, it’s on you. Not me, not anyone else but you.” Nat started at her as she spoke, realizing that she was in fact correct. If you died it’s on her, if you died you wouldn’t get to do all the fun stuff that she called childish. No matter how much she hated to cry in front of others she couldn’t stop it, she bursted into tears over your barely breathing body. She whispered apologize into you knowing you wouldn’t hear them. When the quinjet arrived she rushed you to the med bay and Cho immediately went to work, pushing everyone out of the room so she could operate. Nat sat in the waiting room panicking and wondering if you would make it. Hours and hours went by and she was the same, back hunched, leg bouncing, hands near her mouth and a worried face. Over time the others left until it was just her, she replayed everything in her mind. From the fight, to the ring, to the crying, and to now where you were on an operating table and she sat hoping you’d make it. Even if you didn’t forgive her she just wanted you to know how sorry she truly was, she wanted you to know that she didn’t mean it. Dr. Cho came out of the room and Nat stood up at the speed of light,
“Is she going to be okay doc?” Came Nat’s voice. She studied the ladies face for any sign that you may still be alive.
“She’s going to be alright Ms. Romanoff.” Nat let out a sigh of relief before the Doctor continued, “Although she’s lucky she made it, if you arrived any later I don’t think I’d be delivering good news. You may see her whenever but it may take a few hours until she wakes up.” Nat thanked the woman repeatedly and ran into the room seeing you asleep with wire hooked to you. She sat down on the chair next to you and held your hand.
“Im so sorry Y/N, I didn’t mean any of it. I was just mad and angry and I took that out on you when I shouldn’t have. I promise you that once you wake up, we’ll build the best little gingerbread house and bake the most delicious cookies known to man kind. We can even listen to Christmas movies while we decorate the compound. And then we could watch those Christmas movies and go see the tree in the city. I’ll do anything to make this the best Christmas you ever had, I promise you that.” She kissed the back of your hand and enclosed her own with yours, holding your hand as she fell asleep next to you.
When you awoke you looked over to see Nat sleeping soundly against the chair, you could’ve laughed at her snoring. You whispered out her name and she quickly woke up to see you staring back at her. She smiled and gave you a big hug, only stopping when she heard you wince. She spewed out more apologies as you lightly chuckled at her concern. She stood up more straight and prepared to explain everything.
“Look Y/N,-“ she was cut off by your small pained voice,
“I know.” “You know what?” She asked, hoping you possibly heard her last night.
“I know now what you mean, I’m not mature enough. I tried proving myself with the mission but look where I ended up, with you saving me. I mean all those people were right, I’m too young to be dating someone like you, someone with experience. So I’m sorry for going on the mission and I’m sorry for suggesting those holiday things, it was stupid of me.” You ended with a sad smile looking down at your lap. Nat didn’t understand why you were apologizing, it was her fault that you ended up like this.
“Baby, you shouldn’t be apologizing. If anyone should be it’s me, I took out my anger on you that day when I shouldn’t have. All you wanted to do was make this year something to remember and I messed it up. I shouldn’t have used your insecurities against you and I shouldn’t have broken up with you. I was stupid and afraid, afraid because I was falling for you. My whole life I’ve been taught that love is for children but it’s not, you made me realize that it’s not just for children and it scared the hell out of me. When I found out you were captured and being tortured I thought that our last time seeing one another would be when I yelled at you and I didn’t want that to be your last memory of me. I swear that I will do everything I can to make it up to you, if you let me?” She sounded so vulnerable that it made you want to forgive her right on the spot, but you wanted her to work for it. You wanted to see how far she’d really do for you.
“I’m willing to give you another chance but this is the only second chance you’ll receive. If you mess up again I won’t forgive you.” “Of course! I’m not going to let you down this time.” She exclaimed, already thinking of the ways to prove how much she truly loved you.
Weeks went by and all Nat did was show how much she truly cared for you, tending to your wounds, baking together, decorating the compound, going to see the tree in NY, and watching all the Christmas movies you wanted. When Christmas arrived you both were like happy little kids opening up all your presents, Nat even buying you your own promise ring while she still wears the one you got her. Later that evening you both are sat in the bathtub soaking one another in. Nat plays with your finger as you wear the ring she gifted you.
“I love you so much.” It was out of the blue but Nat meant it, she meant every ‘I love you’ that she told you.
“I love you too Nat.” You said with your head rested on her large bicep. She loved flexing her muscles around you knowing how much you admired them. You turned your body around so you straddled her lap and put your head on her neck. You gave light kisses to her body as you ran your hands up and down her muscular form, going from her arms to her abs. You could feel her dick growing hard under you, making you slowly grind against her. The water moved with you as it got close to spilling onto the floor. Continuing with your kisses you sucked on her weak spot causing moans to leave her mouth.
“You like that Nat?” Her answer was a small whimper, you stilled slightly at the noise. She’s always been one to top so it was the first time you ever heard a noise like that come from her. You quickly recovered from your small trance and continued what you were doing moments ago, only this time slightly faster. You rubbed your core all up against her eight inch cock feeling it throb against you. Your mouth connected with hers, swallowing both of you guys’ moans. Her tongue licked at your lips asking for entrance, opening your mouth you let her explore. She held your face with one hand as the other went to your ass pushing you back and forth, causing you to grind faster. You both left each others mouths as the need for air hit, you pulled yourself off of her only to line her up with your entrance. Nat threw her head back as your warm walls enclosed around her tip while you let out a groan. You slowly lowered yourself to take more of her until you were at the base. Both of you put your heads together as you started to ride her, going at a moderate pace to get used to her size. No matter how many time you guys have had sex it still surprised you with how big she really was. Water splashed onto the ground as you sped up, trying to feel as much pleasure as possible.
“Fuck, feel so good around me. Wanna be in you forever, wanna feel your tight walls wrap around me forever.” Her words only turned you on more, feeling your release approaching you tried to warn Nat but failed. She used one hand to rub your clit and her mouth to suck on your nipples. Everything was just too much, without warning you came around her cock. It triggered Nat into her own orgasm as spurts of cum filled you up. After a few moments your moans calmed down and you both sat there in a comfortable silence. Nat wrapped her large arms around you, engulfing you into a hug as she rested her head on the tops of yours. Neither of you wanted to let go, wanting to stay in one another’s embrace forever. But sadly you couldn’t stay in the bath forever, Nat picked you both up and dried you off. You both wore matching pajamas and cuddled as you drifted off to sleep. Even if you two had your ups and downs you were always able to find one another again.

12 days of Xmas request:Friends to lovers.
Snowed in alone w Eddie at either his place or yours. Power goes out, no heat. Spend a couple of hours huddled together like eskimos but come nightfall, it’s unbearably cold. And, well, huddling becomes cuddling, cuddling becomes….“how do you think we’re gonna get warm if you’re trying to take my pants off!”

There is still one spot left in my twelve days event if you’d like to request something - no need for it to be Christmas themed, winter activities/stories are more than welcomed too. Day 06 | Track 06: “Baby It’s Cold Outside” by Dean Martin
Tumblr media
You thought when your aunt offered up their cabin for a winter getaway it sounded like a great idea. A much needed vacation for the group of you older kids. To be away from Hawkins and the young ones and just be kids yourselves again for a little bit.
As you watched the sky turn darker, purple tint falling across everything as the white snow fell in what seemed like heapfuls, it’s only mission in life to attack and annihilate the planet, you started to think it was actually the start of a terrible horror movie.
So far, you were the only one there, your parents dropping you off on their way to their own vacation. You let the curtain fall in front of the window as you searched the cabin, deciding that knowing where extra blankets, candles, and the liquor cabinet was located were all becoming drastically more likely to be of use.
You were pulling on another sweater and wool socks when the phone rang and you ran to it, sliding a little on the cabin’s wood floors, answering it breathlessly, “Hello?”
Static filled the other side and you tried again, “Hello?”
“Oh! Y/N! Thank god!” Robin’s voice was crackling and you pushed the phone closer to your ear like that would help.
“Robs, I can barely hear you-” more static that made you pull back a little.
“Steve and I are stuck in a little town not too far…” static took over her words, trailing in and out of a coherent sentence, “motel. Eddie should…” and then the line went dead.
Eddie should what? Should have been here by now? Was she going to say shouldn’t have and then what?
Your fingers started to itch as you realized the phone was completely dead, no static or dial tone. You looked around and the lamps you had clicked on were all out.
Oh shit. Totally a horror movie.
Glad you had in fact located extra candles, you started to light them as the cabin started to fall into darkness and then you heard a loud bang and froze.
You were alone in a cabin, stuck in a snowstorm with no transportation, and the power went out. You were the idiot who got killed off first and all of your friends would still come up the following day, unsure of what happened and get sucked into the plot of the movie, all running from whoever or whatever got you first.
You grabbed the closest thing to you as you heard the thudding get louder, the door swung open and you lunged towards the figure in the door who was screaming right back at you.
Hands up in the air and large brown eyes blinking at you and you stopped, a box of macaroni noodles suspended in the air as you tried to catch your breath. It was just Eddie.
You threw the box of noodles at him anyways, “Don’t do that! I could have killed you!”
Eddie had his hand over his heart, catching his own breath, but he caught the box with a lopsided grin on his face, “With uncooked pasta?”
You crossed your arms, the sudden chill he let in reminding you that you didn’t have heat anymore and frowned, “Shut up.”
Eddie looked around at the candles and his smile fell, “Fucking hell. Do we not have power?”
You shook your head, “Just went out. Robin called me and-”
“Are they okay? I lost them when we stopped for gas, Steve’s little BMW should not be driving in that shit.”
You nodded and moved your way to the living room, “Yeah from what I could hear, it sounded like they stopped at a motel. So just us tonight I think.”
Eddie smirked as he removed his snow covered outer layers, pushing a duffle bag across the floor.
You looked at the unlit fireplace and asked, “What? What’s so funny?”
Eddie laughed as he hung up his coat, “Oh just Harrington and Buck stuck in a snowstorm in a tiny motel room. I feel like I’d pay money to watch how that all unfolds, arguing over TV channels, sides of the bed, all that,” he came over to the fireplace, “Plus, you know, we’re definitely living the plot of a horror movie.”
You groaned and rubbed at your cold cheeks, “Don’t say that, I was already thinking that before you got here. I’m the first dumb girl to go.”
Eddie started to poke around in the fireplace and chuckled, “Nah, you’re the first girl. You’re the one who makes it out in the end. Movie ends with you covered in the blood of some crazy monster or serial killer that you defeated in some revenge plot for killing your…”
He trailed off and you tried to calm your heart down, because Eddie saying you were the badass who lived in a horror film over everyone may have been a throwaway comment to him, but for you it was the greatest compliment and you were swooning a little.
His tongue was out as he concentrated on lighting the logs when the familiar woosh of the flame catching filled the small cabin and his lips fell into a smug and confident smile, you had to turn away from how cute he was. You grabbed all the extra blankets you could find and dumped them in front of the fireplace. He looked at the blankets, the fireplace and then around at all of the candles before his eyes landed on you. Both of you turning away from the other quickly, him mumbling something about changing.
You tried not to focus on Eddie’s movements as you unrolled your sleeping bag, tucking more blankets into it and over it. As he left and walked down the hall, you took the liberty of unfolding his sleeping bag and went down the hall to change yourself.
Shivering from being away from the fire for only a few minutes, you returned to find Eddie starting to zip into his sleeping bag, a plain sweater and sweatpants, you had never seen him so casual before, like his layers of defense were gone.
You tucked yourself in and no matter how you rearranged the blankets, you were freezing.
You listened as Eddie was doing the same, and you were fairly certain he could hear your teeth chattering.
“Y/N?”
You rolled to see only his big brown eyes blinking at you, the flames of the firelight flickering in them and his nose poked out, a little pink. You shook from your shivering and he closed his eyes before blowing out his breath, “Okay, I’m totally not trying to be a perv, but would you want to share sleeping bags? I feel like it would help.”
You knew he was right, but the thought of you and Eddie sharing a sleeping bag was overwhelming. But as your teeth clinked together you found yourself nodding. He slowly unzipped his and you crawled in, careful to keep your arms from drifting past his elbows and facing him, chests and legs pressed together but both of you rigid against the other’s body.
You pulled your sleeping bag and the blankets around you both and already it was better, the heat from the fire on your forehead and Eddie’s breath on your cheek. You pressed your hands tighter, curling up against his chest and looked up at him through your lashes, whispering, “Is this okay?”
He nodded and cleared his throat, arm wrapping around your waist, “This?”
You nodded and took a deep breath, the scent of Eddie’s soapy laundry detergent filling your nose and making you a little dizzy, nose pressed to his collar.
You inched a little closer, risking the movement of your legs tangling in his a bit, pressing your cheek to his chest and listened to his heart beating rapidly underneath it. You smiled at the thought of him being just as nervous as you and wrapped one of your arms around his waist too, fingers touching the skin on his lower back where his shirt had raised a little.
He sucked in his breath and you started to pull away, “Sorry, too cold or-”
He pulled you closer, “No! I mean,” his cheeks were pink, and he cleared his throat again, “No, just surprised me. It’s good. It’s nice.”
He was babbling and you scooted closer again. Listening to the fire crackle, Eddie’s heartbeat and breathing slowing, you felt your eyelashes fluttering together. You started to move your fingers up and down Eddie’s spine and he hummed a little, arms wrapping around you tighter.
His own fingers were buzzing small circles into your lower back and you shivered, and didn’t argue when Eddie whispered, “Still cold?”
You felt him pull your arm away and before you could protest at the lack of contact, he was rolling you, back to his chest and curling you into him, both of his arms wrapped around you and your legs tangled together.
His breath on your neck and close to your ear as he whispered, “Better?”
You gasped at the heat of his breath on your skin and nuzzled back into him as you nodded. His fingers splayed across your stomach and thigh and you pushed your hips back into him. Your skin was buzzing with electricity, Eddie’s breath in your ear doing something to you that you’d never felt before. You were on the verge of making a needy, whimpering noise when you felt his hardening length pressing into your ass.
You rolled your hips back into him slowly and he nudged against you, fingers continuing to leave a buzzing trail on your stomach and through the layers on your hips. His breath continued to fan up and down your neck. A teasing game you were playing, your hips rocking into him like it could be an accident, him nudging back against you, but the more you kept doing it, you both knew it was on purpose. Bodies slowly pushing closer together and hips rolling against one another. Your heartbeat pounding in your chest and underwear growing wetter as you both slowly grinded into each other.
His nose nudged just under your ear, his lips grazing your skin and your hand laced itself into his, and you arched your back into him, pulling his fingers to your waistband.
You pushed his hand past the layers, thick fingers sliding through your slick easily and you shivered against him, guiding his other hand to your hip and rocking against his fingers moving up and down through your wetness.
You heard him whisper so quietly, that if his mouth hadn’t been directly behind your ear you wouldn’t have heard him, “fuck me, is this really happening?”
You giggled and wrapped your fingers back into his hair, pulling him to your neck harder, his lips traveling up and down it. You moaned as he nipped at your skin before sucking a bruise into you as his fingers pushed into you deeper.
Removing his lips from the new mark and trailing down your jaw, he whispered into your skin, “You know, I think I read somewhere that if you take your clothes off, your bodies can-”
You started to pull down your bottom half layers and you felt his fingers still and you grabbed his wrist, pushing him to keep moving and he started babbling into your neck, “Oh my-fuck, okay, you sure?”
You laughed and pushed yourself into his erection, rolling your hips as his fingers continued to glide through your folds, not sure what else to show him how you wanted this desperately so you said, “Yes, Eddie. Gonna take your pants off now or…?”
He nodded into your neck, shimming his sweats down, and you shivered as he slid between your thighs, both of you a little breathless. He reached up and turned your chin, eyes wide and concerned and you knew he was going to be sweet and ask you if you were sure again.
You rolled your eyes and pressed your lips to his and you felt him relax, sighing into your mouth. He pulled away and brushed the hair from your neck, pushing his tip through your folds and into your entrance slowly.
Eddie pushed deeper, both of you gasping at how your walls clutched him tighter, his fingers splayed across your hip, digging into your skin and dragging you up and down slowly and to your delight, he whined into your ear.
Bodies slowly grinding together, Eddie’s hips rocking up into you, his breath hot on your neck and ear, his hand squeezed your hip once more before trailing up your side till he reached your chest, cupping one of your breasts.
Your eyelids were fluttering closed, the feeling of Eddie sliding in and out of you slowly as his breath buzzed into your skin was sending you into a euphoric state. Eddie pressed more kisses into your neck as his hand traveled back down your stomach.
“Fuck, baby, I’m not gonna last,” he gasped against you and you whined, arching your body away from him, needing more and also already feeling like it was too much.
Eddie’s fingers pulled some of your slick up and to your clit, pressing soft figure eights into it as his hips started to thrust up into you faster, pulling your leg over atop his, spreading you wider for him.
You clutched the blankets, the arousal and tension that had been building for too long threatening to snap, “Eddie, please, fuck!” You didn’t even know what you were begging for, wanting him to slow down and go faster all at once.
He gripped your hip as his other hand worked faster into your swollen bundle of nerves, his thrusts hitting that spongy spot deep inside of you and his breath was hot in your ear as he groaned, “I know, come on, let go for me baby.”
His voice in your ear was the tipping point of no return, his thrusts started to stutter as you screamed out his name, his lips and nose nudging down your neck as his finger continued to swirl and press into you softly. Your orgasm crashing into you both at the same time, tightening around him as you cried out and his hot ropes of cum painted your walls. Both of you were breathless, panting against one another.
Eddie kissed your neck and laughed a little, “Now is definitely when the killer comes in.”
You smacked his hip, “Eddie!”
You felt his smile against your neck as his arms wrapped around you tighter, despite you being as close as you could be still, and he whispered, “Don’t worry, I’ll protect you.”
His lips brushed down to your collar, fingers tracing soft circles on your bare hip and his nose nudged at your shirt, whispering, “I really did read something about keeping warm without clothes on,” his lips brushed up to your ear again and he squeezed his arm around your waist as he whispered, “It’s only going to get colder outside, baby.”

My Love Mix Up TH Ep 7 Stray Thoughts
Last week, Atom and Kongthap navigated what dating might look like for them, and managed to have their first movie date, and a date up a mountain to make a romantic wish. Atom got some romantic advice from a new tutor/teacher, but we left at a potentially homophobic moment when that teacher spotted them together on the mountain. Meanwhile, Mudmee spent much of the episode frustrated with Half for not remembering moments that made her like him.
I feel like this dude has no real authority to ask about their relationship outside of school.
Oh, he told their moms. See, this is kinda fucked up because part of why I’m not a teacher anymore is that I was told that it is a requirement under the law that I report on homosexual behavior by students to their parents.
A homophobia fakeout again from GMMTV. 😑 I don’t think this shit is funny.
Every time they undercut the real world homophobia they make Atom look paranoid. It’s a terrible choice to have him be concerned about how people might perceive him when this show keeps making it seem like his instincts are wrong.
Nice save, Half.
Okay, this chocolate lava cake looks good.
Finally, Aungpao is back.
Man…I don’t think they way they built to this breakup at all. Queer people have real reasons to protect themselves and choose who they want to be out with, and I don’t think this show has earned this plotline at all.
Fourth is good at expressing sadness.
Poor Mudmee. She and Half have had such an awkward, bumpy road. At least they finally made some more progress.
This scene with the kids should play humorous, but it's just Atom's fault he's lonely?
Oh, Papang is here to prove once again that he can build chemistry with anyone.
I hope they do a heavy handed explanation to explain Atom of they want these two to reconcile in this episode.
Man, they really just stumbled all over the sexual awakening and dealing with how that affects how others perceive you beats.
You just knew they were going to shove a musical moment into this once karaoke got mentioned.
This whole Don't Say Gay thing is driving me up the wall. It's affecting the stories in a way I find super uncomfortable. I'd rather bubble shows not allude to any kind of homophobia if they don't want it in their worlds. I hate when they make a character worry about homophobia only to make them look "silly." It's offensive, and it makes the characters feel deeply unreal. I'm losing touch with this romance as a result.
It feels like they didn't want to retread on homophobic teachers since they did it in MSP, but I don't like the choice they went with here at all.
I will be dropping this show. I find that I hate everything it has to say, and I wish the cast and crew success in future endeavors.
Kieta Hatsukoi Comparison: Feels like they wanted to merge the source material but where Aoki's sister is a pastry chef with this senior, and then used Valentine's Day as the romantic stand in for Christmas. As mentioned last week, we're diverging heavily from the source material at this stage, so I'll leave that off.

Is it too early to talk about Christmas?? As a mother I’d say YES! Keep that money hungry stress filled holiday away! As a fic writer 😏 hehehe welllll imagine with me… if you will…
Tommy, who has never cared much for the holidays… He didn’t have the best home life, his adult life was filled with hiding and lying about himself and sadness… and loneliness… until Evan, of course.
Evan who loves the holidays! Evan, who convinced him to do a couples costume for Halloween. Evan, who convinced Tommy to host thanksgiving at his house, so he could get to make the bird this year. He’s never had a big enough place to host… and yeah they aren’t living together, but like Tommy could say no to that face (we know that face).
Evan who has been Holly jolly mistletoe and reindeer since Black Friday (honestly since the Christmas decor hit the shelves it just came out in full force after thanksgiving)
And Tommy tried to keep up. Truly… he did. He tried to slap on the best smile and be cheery and merry and have the holiday spirit. It’s not like he’s the grinch… or Scrooge… he just… He doesn’t get it.
And Evan picks up on it so quick… Tommy feels terrible! He stops requesting holiday movies, or activities... but the kicker is when Tommy finds out about the 118 toy drive through Lucy who is helping out at the sister station.
“Baby, why didn’t you tell me about this?” He asks.
Evan’s face goes red and he bites his lip. “Well— I know it’s not really your thing… Christmas, I mean… and I get that, I swear I do. I just didn’t— I knew you would come if I asked… and I didn’t want to pressure you…”
Tommy melts. Absolutely melts. He pulls Evan into his arms and kisses him. “What time should I be there?”
And when he arrives and they come to him in need of a Santa — Evan was the original choice but he is currently occupied with activities. Apparently the Christmas spirit finds (and possesses) him because he agrees. Which is where Evan finds him shortly after. Jee clinging giddily to his hand. His eyes light up when he meets Tommy’s — who is doing his best to make the impression believable. The kids are buying it— well most of them.
“Hey Tommy!” Jee says as she climbs up onto his knee.
“Uh— oh no, little girl, I’m not Tommy,” he says, and has to bite his jaws to stop from joining in Evan’s laughter.
Jee tilts her head, confused. “But you look like Tommy,” she says.
“You know what… come to think of it, I actually have got that a lot…” he says and adds in a, “Hohoho…” laugh that has Evan covering his mouth with his hand to muffle a snort.
Jee goes on to tell him what she wants for Christmas and he spends about an hour talking with other children; all the while he keeps catching Evan staring at him with this awestruck look. He actually has a really good time that day… catches Evan under the mistletoe every chance he gets… and it doesn’t automatically make Tommy love Christmas. But he is 100% sure he loves Evan… and if that means dipping his toes in new things he didn’t care for before he’s willing to do so.

California Dreamin' - Eddie Munson
Chapter Six - Everywhere (Part Two)
Content warnings: almost first kiss, talk of sexual experiences and relationships, Eddie has a nightmare, comfort, lots of reassurance!! Continued from last chapter!
01:25AM
The living room is lit by the light of the flickering tv screen. Everyone is asleep except Eddie, who blankly watches the TV and occasionally glances at Nina. Nina’s eyes flutter open.
Nina: (hushed) “Eddie? What are you doing awake?”  Eddie: [shrugging, quiet] “Too wired to sleep yet.”  Nina: [looking around the living room at everyone passed out on the couch, yawning, voice soft] “I didn’t even realise I fell asleep.”  Eddie: “It’s okay.” [smirking] “Your snoring is terrible though.”  Nina: [gaping] “I so do not snore!”  Eddie: [teasing] “You so do.”  Nina: “Do not!”  Eddie: “You do! Like this.” [he does an exaggerated snore, Nina gapes more, blushing]  Nina: [pouty, tired] “You’re so mean to me.”  Eddie: [softening] “It’s cute, don’t worry.”  Nina: [blushing] “Thanks.” [looking around, rubbing her eyes tiredly] “Well, I’m awake now, what do you want to do?”
Eddie’s mind raced, there were lots of things they could do, he thought. He blinked away his dirty thoughts and returned back to the conversation.
Nina: “We could get to know each other a bit better?”  Eddie: [smiling brightly, dimples showing] “Sure. Erm… when’s your birthday?”  Nina: “March 3rd. I’m a Pisces baby.”  Eddie: [teasingly] “Hippie.”  Nina: “And yours?”  Eddie: “August 27th.”  Nina: [rolling her eyes] “Leo, so obvious.”  Eddie: [laughing] “Favourite food?”  Nina: “Meal or snack?”  Eddie: [grinning] “Both.”  Nina: [smiling] “Italian food, I love any kind of pasta. And cookies.”  Eddie: “What kind of cookies?”  Nina: “Chocolate chip, obviously. You?”  Eddie: “Mexican, fajitas specifically, and pretzels.”  Nina: “Starters or Dessert?”  Eddie: [grinning] “Both.” [Nina rolls her eyes, smiling]  Nina: “Favourite movie?”  Eddie: “Evil Dead, or The Muppets Movie.” [Nina raises her eyebrow, Eddie blushes, grinning] “It’s a good movie!” [Nina shakes her head, laughing] “What’s yours?”  Nina: “Oooh, either the Lost Boys or Alien!”  Eddie: [nodding his head] “Impressive. Favourite band?”  Nina: “Oh, too hard, ask an easier question.”  Eddie: “Come on! Give me a top five.”  Nina: “Hmm, okay.” [She shuffles on her legs to get comfy, sitting cross legged face to face with Eddie] “In no order, Fleetwood Mac, obviously, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.” [Eddie smiles a wide smile, heart beating loudly in his chest] “That good enough for you?”  Eddie: [smirking] “Sabbath, yes, Aerosmith, no.”  Nina: [mock offence] “How dare you! Steve Tyler is a god!” Eddie: [cheeky] “Aerosmith suck.”  Nina: “They do not!” [looking at Eddie] “Your hair is a bit like Steve Tyler’s, actually.”  Eddie: [sassy] “I resent that.” [Nina rolls her eyes, smiling. Eddie: still sassy, flirty] “I’m gonna make you a tape, get your music back up to scratch.”  Nina: [smirking] “And I resent that you think my music taste isn’t up to scratch.” [Eddie laughs] “You’re going to make me a tape?”  Eddie: [shy] “I mean, I don’t have to, I was just-“  Nina: “No, no, that sounds nice. I’d like that. Your top five?”  Eddie: “Metallica, obviously, Motörhead, Dio, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.”  Nina: “Favourite book.”  Eddie: [chuckling] “Lord of the Rings, being the nerd that I am.” [scratching his neck, awkward] “I used to love most fantasy books. I don’t tend to read much anymore, to be honest.”  Nina: “How come?”  Eddie: [uncomfortable] “I don’t know really… I just fell out of love with it. I used to read loads a few years ago but after the… accident, I kinda stopped reading.”  Nina: “You should start again. I have some I can lend you.”  Eddie: [hopeful] “Yeah?”  Nina: [smiling] “Yeah. Favourite season?”
Eddie: “Fall. You?”  Nina: “Summer. I was not made for the cold. But I love Christmas! It’s my favourite time of the year.”  Eddie: “Favourite colour?”  Nina: “Green. Like, forest green, not light green.”  Eddie: [flirty] “Definitely a hippie.”  Nina: “Shut up. Yours?” Eddie: “Mine is black.”  Nina: “Cliche, so obvious.”  Eddie: [copying her, smirking] “Shut up.”
Nina: “Favourite memory?”
Eddie: [thoughtful] “Ooh, that’s a hard one. Probably Wayne and I’s first Christmas. He got me my first guitar, I was so happy I cried, it was very lame. Yours?”
Nina: “Hmm… not sure I’ve had it yet. But if I had to pick, I’d say the surprise birthday party I had when I was ten. My Mom got my friends and I surfing lessons, that’s how I got into surfing.”
Eddie: (curiously) “Are you close with your mom?”
Nina: [uncomfortable] “I used to be. Not so much anymore. What about you, you live with your Uncle, right?”
Eddie: “Yeah, we’re close. He took me in when my Dad was being a piece of shit, he’s like the dad I never had.” [insecure] “Sometimes I worry I’ve let him down.”
Nina: “Why do you think that?”
Eddie: (dryly) “Repeating senior year three times and dealing drugs isn’t exactly what I’d call being the perfect son. Or nephew.”
Nina: (smiling) “You’re doing your best. That’s all anyone can do.”
Eddie: “Why are you like that?”
Nina: (confused) “Like what?”
Eddie: “So… chill. Like nothing phases you.”
Nina: [shrugging, laughing] “I’ve seen a lot of shit in my time, I’ve just learned to roll with the punches.” [changing the topic, feeling the tension] “Ask me something else.”
Eddie: [nervous] “First kiss?”
Nina: [laughing at the memory] “Jacob Kirby, 14 years old, at lunchtime detention.” [smirking] “It certainly livened my day up.”
Eddie: [trying to hide his jealousy, changing the topic] “What were you in detention for?”
Nina: [bashful] “Lucy Richardson hit me in the face with a netball so I tripped her over.”
Eddie: [teasing] “Brutal, you hypocrite, here you are calling me a bully and you were a bigger bully than I am.”
Nina: [mouth wide, mock offence] “I was not! She had it coming anyways, she was a bitch.” [blushing] “When was your first kiss?”
Eddie: [embarrassed] “Seven minutes in heaven, Steve’s house party, 17 years old, Diana Roberts. It was hell.”
Nina: [laughing] “What! How?”
Eddie: [scratching his neck awkwardly] “I was nervous as fuck. I didn’t know what to do so I shoved my tongue down her throat. Wasn’t a pleasant experience.”
Nina: [wrinkling her nose, laughing] “Gross. I hope your technique has improved since then.” [Eddie flushes] “First girlfriend?”
Eddie: [red faced, panicked] “I’ve actually never had one.”
Nina: [shocked] “Seriously?”
Eddie: [uncomfortable, shrugging] “Not many people queuing up to date the freak of Hawkins.”
Nina: “Wow, I find that hard to believe.”
Eddie: [confused] “What do you mean?”
Nina: [bluntly] “Well, you’re hot.” [Eddie gulps nervously] “And you’re a catch.”
Eddie: [awkward] “You think so?” [quietly] “I think you are too. Hot I mean, and a catch.”
Nina: [coy] “I guess that works out well for me then.”
Eddie: [oblivious] “What does?”
Nina: [flirty] “Means I’m at the front of the queue.” [Eddie’s jaw drops, flustered, breathing shallow. Nina panics] “Too far? Sorry, I hope I haven’t made you uncomfortable.”
Eddie: [coughing] “No, not at all.” [recovering slowly] “It’s nice, I mean, yeah. That’s nice to know. Your first boyfriend?”
Nina: “Jessie DeLuca. Aged 15, he was in the year above. We had the whole ‘childhood sweethearts’ thing going on.”
Eddie: [curiosity getting the better of him] “Why did you break up?”
Nina: [shrugging] “Just grew apart, I guess. We’re still friends though. I am with most of my exes.”
Eddie: [jealous] “Who else?”
Nina: “Tommy Edwards and Michael Rhodes. I was with Tommy for two years and Michael for one. I don’t speak to Michael anymore, he moved away, but I still speak- well, spoke- to Tommy occasionally.” [awkward] “I haven’t really spoken to any of them since I moved here.”
Good, Eddie thought bitterly.
Eddie: [shyly, embarrassed] “So… what was your first time like?”
Nina: [oblivious] “First time what?”
Eddie: [pained] “First… time.” [Nina catches on, smiling, Eddie rushes to explain himself] “You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, that was way too personal, I’m so-“
Nina: “Don’t apologise, I’m an open book.” [Eddie smiles] “It was nice. It was with my first boyfriend Jessie when I was seventeen, his Mom and Dad were away for the night. It wasn’t planned, it just sort of happened.” [smiling at the memory] “It was awkward, of course, but nice.” [Eddie gulps, trying to hide his jealousy] “I think your first time should always be with someone you care about.”
Eddie: “Yeah?”
Nina: [deep in thought] “Yeah. It means more when it’s with someone special.” [Eddie looks at her, love struck, blushing] “What about you?”
Eddie: [panicked, red in the face] “Oh I uh, I actually haven’t.. done it yet.” [Nina’s mouth parts a little in shock, blinking a few times] “Not for the want of trying, I guess I just never found the right person.” [fiddling with his rings] “It’s embarrassing, really. Don’t tell anyone, please.”
Nina: [sincere] “I think it’s nice. You should wait until it’s with someone you care about.”
Eddie: [blushing, looking at Nina intensely] “Yeah?”
Nina: [also blushing, shying from Eddie’s loving gaze] “Yeah.”
Eddie: [looking down at his hands, nervous] “How will I know I’ve found the right person?”
Nina: [thoughtful] “It’ll feel easy. Like two pieces of a puzzle fitting.” [looking at Eddie fondly] “Almost like you’re thinking ‘where have you been all my life, why haven’t we been doing this the whole time?’” [looking away, bashful] “Fireworks, racing heart, butterflies, all that shit, y’know?”
Eddie: [fondly] “Yeah, I know.”
Eddie looks at Nina, smiling. She finally looks back at him, her heart beating hard in her chest. Her eyes flick between Eddie’s warm brown ones and his soft lips, thinking how badly she wanted to kiss them.
Eddie notices her looking and can’t help but reciprocate. His palms sweat with nerves; it’s not his first kiss, but it’s the kiss. He looked at Nina’s pillowy lips, thinking how soft they’d be, what she’d taste like; thoughts he thought about every night before bed, but this time the opportunity was in front of him.
Both Nina and Eddie lean into each other, their faces only a few centimetres apart. Nina looks for any doubt in Eddie’s eyes and finds none. She closes her eyes and leans further in.
Their lips are barely touching, Eddie inhaling deeply as he prepares himself for his first kiss with Nina. He closes his eyes, waiting for the moment their lips touch.
Will walks down the stairs into the living room, searching blindly for the light for the kitchen. When the light of the kitchen blinds Nina and Eddie they pull back, embarrassed.
Will: [awkward, shocked] “Shit, sorry guys, I didn’t mean to interrupt I-“
Nina: [rushing off the couch] “It’s okay, Will. What do you need?”
Will: [mumbled] “I was just going to get a glass of water.”
Nina: “I’ll get you one.” [Nina walks into the kitchen, red with embarrassment]
Will mouths an awkward ‘sorry’ to Eddie, who responds with ‘I’m going to kill you’.
Nina: [handing Will a glass of water] “Here.”
Will: [yawning] “Thanks.” [walking back up the stairs] “Night guys.” [Nina says a quiet ‘goodnight’]
Eddie, struggling to find words and still speechless by their almost-kiss before Will’s interruption, waves at Will feebly.
Nina: [half-heartedly] “Guess we should get some sleep huh?”
Eddie: [saddened] “Sure.” [smiling at Nina] “Goodnight sweetheart.”
Nina: [pulling the blanket over the two of them, top and tailed on the couch, smiling sincerely] “Goodnight, Eddie.”
They turn off the lamp and lie in the dark, both afraid to breathe, until they both fall asleep.
05:13AM
Eddie: [asleep, sweating, tossing and turning on the couch] “No, please, no.”
Nina: [stirring from her sleep, tired] “Eddie?”
Eddie: (desperate, panting) “Stop, please, not again!”
Nina: [concerned, shifting to gently shake Eddie] “Eddie, wake up, you’re having a bad dream.”
Eddie: “Please, don’t hurt her, please! Stop!”
Nina: [shaking him more forcefully] “Eddie! Wake up!”
Eddie: [now awake, wide eyed and shaking] “Please- wait, what?” [Looking around, startled] “What time is it?”
Nina: (softly) “Just after 5. You were having a bad dream.”
Eddie: [rubbing his eyes, exhausted] “Oh.” (Guilty) “I didn’t wake you up, did I?”
Nina: “It’s okay, don’t worry.” (Concerned) “Are you alright?”
Eddie: (breathless) “Y-yeah, I think.” (Sadly) “I’m sorry I woke you up.”
Nina: (softly) “It’s okay, don’t worry. Do you want to talk about it?”
Eddie: (embarrassed) “No- no thank you.”
Nina: “Okay.” [Shuffling on the couch, patting her chest] “Come here.”
Eddie: (red faced, embarrassed) “Wh-what?”
Nina: “Lie here.” [Lifting up the blanket to allow him in] “I’m going to stroke your hair like my Mom used to until you fall back asleep.”
Eddie: “Really?” (Self conscious) “I’m all sweaty.”
Nina: “I don’t mind. Come here.”
Eddie: (struggling) “I- that side is the side with my scars. It hurts to lie on them, sometimes.”
Nina: (comfortingly) “I can come to you?” [Eddie smiles and nods hopefully. She climbs off the couch and lies down next to Eddie]
Eddie smiles sleepily and lies beside Nina, head resting on her chest. He exhales a deep shaky breath, but feels soothed when Nina’s nails gently scratch at his scalp and stroke his hair. She draws little circles on his shoulder with her nails and Eddie smiles happily listening to Nina’s heartbeat in his ear.
Nina: (softly) “Is this okay?”
Eddie snores softly in response. Nina smiles, pressing a gentle kiss on his forehead, before falling asleep too.

SO SORRY IF THIS IS AWKWARD but i wanted to send in a writing thing 😭
prompt: what if Paul and Emma swapped places with Tom in Black Friday? Like Emma is part of the doll ‘feast or famine’ crowd for. Yk, the family reasons and Paul (unaffected) essentially is just running around/running into the foster sisters and whatever the hell was happening in the mall. Dude is having a terrible time as always
(If i phrased that weirdly can i just ask for paulkins interacting with the foster sisters in a casual setting please 🙏 ty!)
yeah!!!!! love this idea sm, hope you like it :)
“You want us to do what?” Emma slammed her coffee on the table.
“Pick up a Wiggly for Tim.” Emma scoffed at Tom. Paul stood awkwardly in the corner. He didn’t want to get involved, Emma was better at arguments.
“Why would we-”
“I want to spend the holidays with my son, not waiting in line.” Tom said. Emma rolled her eyes.
“I thought we were spending the holidays together, Tom. As a family.” Tom clenched his fists.
“My son lost his family when that car crashed. I’ve never asked anything of you ever before. Do this one thing for Me. For Tim. For Jane.” Emma looked away. After a few seconds, she walked over to Paul.
“Lets go get a fucking Wiggly, I guess.” They picked up their bags.
“Emma? Where are you going?” Tim asked, poking his head into the kitchen.
“We have to go to the hardware store to pick up a new bandsaw for your dad. Merry Christmas, Tim.” Emma slammed the door shut.
-
“There's nowhere to park…” Emma said, driving slowly.
“There?” Paul asked, pointing at a large spot.
“That's where the delivery trucks dump their stuff off.”
“It’s probably fine. Let's just hurry.” They parked the car and hopped out, and began walking into the mall.
“You can’t park there.” A voice said. It was a teenager, wearing the Toy Zone uniform and smoking a cigarette. She couldn’t have been older than 19. Paul blinked a few times.
“Lex? Lex Foster?” He asked. She nodded.
“I used to babysit her and her sister,” Paul said to a confused Emma.
“Have you babysitted everybody in this town?” she mumbled under her breath.
“Do you know how many Wiggly’s they have left?” Paul asked. Lex sighed.
“The store isn’t even open yet. Not that it matters. People have been waiting outside for days. You'll be lucky if you even get in the store by noon.” Paul groaned.
“C’mon, let's at least see if we can… buy our way into line? Or something? I don't know. Let's just hurry up.” Emma walked off, dragging Paul behind her. He waved awkwardly at Lex.
“You can’t park here!” Lex called after them. They didn’t hear her. “Oh well.”
-
“Hello? Sorry, can we cut in here for… uh… twenty bucks?” Emma said, pulling some cash from her pocket. The girl in line scowled at her. She was wearing a nursing uniform. Emma vaguely remembered her from highschool.
“Hey, some people have been waiting in line for a very long time, that’s not very fair,” a blonde lady shouted from further ahead. The nurse ignored the other customer.
“No, you can’t cut. That's bribery, and it... should be illegal.” Emma opened her mouth to retaliate, but Paul stopped her.
“Emma! Emma! Over here.” She turned. Paul was pointing to- Gary Goldstien? The attorney?
“This is Gary. He’s uh- my brother. Gary, this is Emma. My…” He shrugged. Emma glared at the nurse one last time and walked to where Paul was standing.
“Hi Gary, nice to meet you. Can we cut you for twenty bucks?”
“Sure. I’ll do it for free. I’ve a lot of favors due to Paul here for taking care of my son when I'm away,” Gary said in his nasally voice. Emma smiled at him.
“Hopefully this will go by quick so we can all go home.” She muttered to Paul as they squeezed their way into line.
-
Emma tried to be quiet as the rabid customers ran by her hiding spot, the popcorn counter in the movie theater. She looked out and saw Paul skittering towards her.
“What the fuck was that?” He whispered, crouching down into the shadows with her. His face was ridden with sweat and panic.
“I-I don’t know. Everyone’s going crazy. Is Gary- where’s Gary?”
“He… I think… I think he killed a guy. I don’t know what’s happening to him- what's happening to anybody. We know these people. They’re not murderers.” Emma nodded.
“We just need too-”
Something clattered to the floor. Emma shrieked, and Paul jumped up, looking around their area. He locked eyes with a young girl, who had knocked a can off of the counter on accident.
“Hannah?” He asked her. She backed up against the wall.
“Bad blood… bad blood…” she repeated it over and over again. Paul looked at Emma, who had calmed down.
“It’s Lex’s sister.” He turned back to the frightened girl.
“Hannah? It’s me, Paul. I used to babysit you. Do you remember?” He walked a little closer to her, and she whimpered, clutching her backpack.
“Hannah… what’s in the backpack?”
“Bad. Bad. Webby says it’s bad. He’s bad. He’ll trick you! He- he…” She started crying. Emma came up to the girl and sat down next to her.
“It’s ok. It’s ok.” She let Hannah lean on her. Emma looked in the backpack quickly.
“Oh. It’s a Wiggly.” A look came over Emma’s face. A look Paul had never seen before. A look Paul didn’t like.
“Emma?” She didn’t look at him. She slowly took the bag from Hannah. The girl looked up at her with a distressed expression.
“No! No! Bad!” Emma stood up.
“Lets go Paul.”
“No! He’s bad! Black and White! Bad blood! NO!” She grabbed at the bag, and Emma kicked her legs.
“Emma!” Paul rushed to stand in front of Hannah. “Emma, this isn’t you.” Her eyes darted around.
“Tim wants this doll. He needs it. He needs it.” Paul shook his head.
“Leave the doll! We need to get out of here, get safe.” She locked eyes with him, and her gaze softened. She dropped the bag. Paul took Hannah’s hand.
“We need to find somewhere safe. Let’s go.”
-
“Emma?” Tom jumped out of the car and rushed to her. Emma ran to embrace him, and Paul shook his hand awkwardly afterwards.
“Tom, god, I'm so glad you’re here.” The mall was aflame behind them, and the few stragglers that made it out were charred and distressed. Hannah and Lex had found each other in the mall, and Paul could only hope they got out.
“I’m so sorry, Emma. I- I don’t know why I sent you to get that doll. Tim doesn’t even want it. I’m gonna get him a Nintendo or something.” They all laughed, but soon a silence followed.
“I almost lost Paul in there."
"And my... my brother..." Paul looked back at the mall. He still hadn't fully processed what had happened to Gary. Maybe he got out? Paul doubted it. He'd never see his brother again. He'd have to tell Richie. He'd have to tell his friends and family that Gary had burned in the mall after beating a teenage boy to death. He looked away from the people, and squeezed Emma's hand tighter. She continued talking to Tom.
"All this stuff, people dying... friends, family... it made me start to think…Tom, it’s time we sit down, as a family, and talk about Jane.” He looked reluctant, but nodded.
“I’m just glad you’re ok. Both of you. And I'm sure Tim will love spending the rest of Christmas with his Aunt. And Paul.” Paul gave him a thumbs up, wiping his eyes. If he could make it through today... he could make it to tomorrow. that is, if tomorrow even came.
A plane whooshed overhead.

Let Your Heart Be Light
holiday modern au, 1.7k. when anya gets to be the grump this time dmitry has to cheer her up <3
Anya huffed as she slammed the door behind her. She fumbled with her scarf, hat, gloves, coat, tripped from her boots, and left it all in a wet, dripping heap on the floor.
She hadn’t called her boyfriend before coming over, but had let herself in his apartment anyway, since he’d given her a key and everything, so she made herself comfortable on his couch without saying a word.
Minutes later, there was the noise of the lock turning and Dmitry was stomping his shoes dry. “Anya?” he called, perhaps confused by the sight of her coat in a heap at the door. “You here?”
“In the living room,” she answered without much more elaboration.
He made his way around the couch and he finally found her on her side with her head on the armrest. “Hey,” Dmitry’s smile melted her heart, just a little. On a good day he could put the sun to shame. His hair was disheveled from the walk home, cheeks flushed from the cold, his hoodie a little crooked, his smile moreso, smelling like snow and clove. “This is a surprise.” He settled on the couch behind her, their usual cuddle spot after a long day. She did her best to maintain her fowl mood she was determined to cling onto. But he was rather warm. Perhaps she could snuggle a little closer to him. “To what do I owe this occasion?”
Anya sighed. “I’ve officially broken up with Christmas.”
He snorted. “Oh no!”
“I’m serious. We’re so over. I’ve decided I hate the cold, and the music, and the crowds. Everyone is too cheerful.”
“What happened?”
She shrugged. “It was just a really bad day.”
“I don’t think one bad day warrants such extreme actions,” he reasoned, tone playful. Teasing was usually the trick that cheered her up, but she wasn’t in the mood right now. “Especially something you’ve adored since before I’ve known you.”
It was true. She was Hallmark Movie Crazy about the holiday season, always had been. She loved buying gifts for everyone, watching the Christmas classics, going ice skating in the park, baking for her neighbors. Basically every cliche you could think of, Anya participated in. She never understood why anyone could be grumpy at this time of year. Until today.
Dmitry’s fingers dug into her side in an attempt to tickle, another trick that normally lightened her mood, but she smacked his hand away. “Watch it, Sudayev.”
“Sorry,” he said, but he was still laughing. “But seriously. Tell me what’s wrong.”
Anya took a deep breath. “Nothing big, but like— you know how when all the little things just add up? And make the day terrible? And you feel like a toddler about to dissolve into a tantrum?”
“Yeah. That’s always rough.”
“Right. Like— I spilled my coffee and didn’t have time to change or buy a new one, so there goes five bucks.”
“Oof.”
“And then I was late getting to work anyway, which is never a good way to start the day. And we had all these meetings so I didn’t get to finish my work before I had to leave, and the printer was broken, and my lunch box leaked, and someone sent me a rude email again—”
“Was it that one guy from sales?”
“Yeah, the same guy.”
“I hate him. Want me to fight him for you?”
“I might fight him if he writes ‘as previously stated’ one more time.”
That made Dmitry laugh. His cheek was cold against her neck, but his body was so irresistibly warm she wondered if his mere presence would lull her to sleep. “Geez. You can’t catch a break.”
“And then! My usual metro line was down again, so I had to take a bus, but there was so much traffic from holiday shoppers that it took twice as long to get uptown, and I lost a glove, and at that point I didn’t even want to go to the store and cook dinner anymore.”
Dmitry was rubbing soothing circles on her shoulder. “And then you came here.”
“Because I didn’t want to go home to my empty apartment and get all mad again.”
“Did you want me to cheer you up?”
She shrugged. “I dunno. I just kinda feel like eating in and watching TV.”
“Fair.” He was quiet for a minute. He pulled his phone from his pocket, tapping away, and Anya assumed the conversation was over. Maybe she might actually fall asleep. Until, “I know what will make you feel better. Come on,” Dmitry stood abruptly, stretching, and she was immediately annoyed by the lack of his warm body against her back. “Let’s go.”
“Go where?”
“Somewhere fun.”
Anya refused to get up. “If it involves going out there again,” she pointed to the door, “you’re going to have to pay me.”
“You’ll love it.”
“No.”
Dmitry sat again, now at her feet, still trying. “They opened the Tuileries winter market today. They’re selling warm drinks and everything. Don’t you want to go see the pretty lights? Do something a little Christmas-y?”
Anya knew she was being stubborn. That was the thing— stubbornness wasn’t exactly a pleasant trait, but, unlike others who suffered from this gene, she was aware of the flaw. Her self awareness made this at least a little more tolerable. And, frankly, she earned the right to not want to get up from this old couch after such a day. Even if she knew she was being difficult to her very lovely and very patient boyfriend. “Christmas lights can’t erase today. I’m forever jaded.”
“I find that hard to believe.”
She sat up, really looking at him, trying to figure out the angle he was playing. “I thought you hated that kind of stuff.”
“Hate’s a strong word. I’m no Scrooge.”
It wasn’t like he was never cheerful, but Dmitry wasn’t exactly the jolly type, either. Anya was usually the one dragging him to holiday events. He happily joined her, of course, but she could tell he only played along just for her sake. Anya jumped at any chance to celebrate the season, from a themed party at their favorite bar to her grandmother’s Christmas dinner to shopping in the holiday section at the bookstore. Dmitry would choose to stay comfortable at home with just the two of them any day. Not that that was a bad thing, of course. So this behavior— him being the one to actively search for a not-cheap Christmas activity in town to participate in— was rather suspicious. “But you always say they overcharge.”
“They do, but,” he bent down and kissed her cheek, “you like these things. And I like you. And I hate seeing you so glum more than I hate spending money.”
That made her smile. “How romantic.”
He mirrored her, kissing her nose. “Come on, Anya. It’ll be good for you to do something cheery and out of your usual routine. If you’re too tired and cold after an hour, we can come back here, and I’ll make us dinner and some boozy hot chocolates, I promise. Scout’s honor.”
“You weren’t a scout.”
He just tilted his head, playfully and patiently exasperated.
“Fine.” His grin widened, but she held up a finger. “You get one hour. And I get to complain about the snow and the commute as much as I want.”
He kissed her then. “That’s my girl.”
They bundled up and braved the December weather, and as promised, Anya grumbled the whole way, and to her frustration Dmitry only smiled and gave her a spare pair of gloves and zipped her coat up to her chin. The ride to the park wasn’t very long so they arrived just as the sun was setting. Dmitry paid for their steaming cups of mulled wine without a fuss and they made their way through the gate, weaving through vendors and children running around, until they found a path of twinkling string lights to walk through.
With Dmitry’s hand in hers and a warm beverage in the other, it wasn’t so bad. The snowfall was less icy and bitter and more fluffy and sweet, Anya admitted to herself, and the lights were rather pretty. It was hard to focus on the frustrations of her day when there were so many delighted smiles walking around and the cheerful carols in the air. Dmitry was rambling mindlessly about his own day at work, talking about the technicalities of this new recipe he got to try, how maybe the head chef might let him take the lead on a dish for a critic tomorrow. And then he would whisper something funny against her cheek, earning a laugh, and. Okay. Maybe today wasn’t all bad.
“Could you take our picture?” he asked one stranger, offering his phone, just before they were about to step under a canopy of lights.
Anya raised her eyebrows up at him, surprised. He grinned as he adjusted his beanie, like he knew he was behaving a bit strange. But they posed and smiled, and when he kissed her cheek she laughed, and they carried on with their walk.
“You’re being a little gross today,” she commented, earning a laugh from him.
“Just trying to cheer you up.”
She tilted her head up at him.
“Is it working?”
She shrugged. “Maybe.”
He turned to face her. Checking. Showing his hand. His smile was still playful, but his eyes shifted into something softer, something a little more serious. “You ready to head back?”
She looked around, taking in the scene around them. “In a few more minutes.”
His eyes searched hers for a minute, studying, making sure. “Okay.” His hands ran up and down her arms as if to warm her up. Always taking care of her, subconsciously or not. “I just hate to see you and your favorite holiday in a fight after just one lousy day.”
She ducked her head. “I think we’re on good terms now,” she admitted, meeting his eye again. “Thanks to you.”
The corner of his mouth tilted up. “Good.”
She stood on her toes to kiss him and he met her halfway, his nose cold against her cheek, all smiles and snow and clove and cinnamon.
Not a bad day. Maybe even a good one.

I see some people come out of the woodwork again and talking about how super terrible the Fox X-Men movies are. Especially - the absolute valid and most annoying point - how the women were nerfed and underutilized. Biggest criticism, forever a big stain. But I'd argue that X-Men '97 still fell into that same trap. Better? Yes. Holding back still? Also yes.
Most of all this hit Storm. Once again. In part this is thanks to where we are with streaming. Tight seasons, few episodes, not much room to breathe. All that while the team pulled nuggets from so many storylines that have spanned decades. There is very limited time and the biggest casualty is the loss of emotional character beats.
Depowered Storm is a well-known moment from the comics. But the reason why it is looked back on fontly is because Storm still had things to do and say and found herself in new ways, including as leader of the X-Men regardless. Readers followed her for quite some time in that state and could wrap their heads around the situation. The beginning and ending of that journey are wonderfully adapated with Lifedeath, but there is no middle. And apart from those focused episodes Storm does... very little.
They do give her a due badass moment early, even mention her status as an Omega Level mutant (won't explain the concept, easiest yet not totally accurate way is to say the best they can be with the power they have and it's off the charts). There is a case of tell, not much showing going on overall though. And in the finale when Cyclops decides it's time to stop fighting he looks at Storm, she gets it, but you have to be a superfan to find the little nuance, to see how this is very much in-character and it does make sense. Storm has a few very wise lines, something she is known for, a few pew-pew-lightning moments, but sidelined. So hard. Not even allowed to talk about what she feels seeing the footage from Genosha.
For non-comic readers a fun fact: in the recent run of X-Men, the Krakoa era, mutants terraformed Mars. Omega level mutants. Of course Storm was there. Prominently. That was a huge thing. The Krakoa era is ending right now and a new relaunch under the banner From the Ashes is coming. And just this week Marvel put out a teaser that "Earth's Mightiest Mutant" would join the Avengers roster. They had buzz for a day with lots of guesses (the word mighty can be interpreted in a few ways) and guess what, it's Storm. (Although I think going from being the Voice of the sol system in intergalactic matters to Avenger is a downgrade.) Meanwhile '97 Storm barely fought in the big climactic battle. Huh.
A tv show has more time than one single movie. That's the whole reason why watching shows is awesome. A narrative that builds over time and can follow some sidepaths. But not anymore. X-Men '97 would never give us a fun little Christmas special, there is no room. And that's sad.
I enjoy the way they went with Madelyne Pryor. But it all happened in one episode and then Jean was a bit angry at Scott, who for once didn't do anything wrong in this bizarre situation imho. They ignored one of the worst moments from his comic history (thank you so much), gave Madelyne a happy ending (for five seconds), but also left no breathing room. The best they did however was the way Jean struggled with the emotions. She remembers things she wasn't physically there for and her love for Nathan is still just as real. What a blessing. So it makes sense that when she fights Nathan she holds back.
Telling stories that involve Jean Grey can be very tricky. With every super powerful being the threat can't just be punchable. So I get that the Cosmic Birb sighting was limited to one appearance. But what happens? Oh, right, Jean faints. I would be here for a few scenes where Jean explains how this vast power is still overwhelming. That there is a fear of tearing earth itself apart. But what we get is Jean powering up, exhausting herself, powering down and then not being strong enough (even next to Storm) to keep Asteroid M from falling. No, no, we needed Magneto's power or else... which, I enjoy the group effort, but I would have at least appreciated a little "we almost got it, if only we had this tiny bit more" and not making it seem like Magneto is the one and only. They pushed the asteroid in place for him to pull, okay? Please. They should have shown how he could not have done that alone.
The show does have a bias super in favor of Magneto. Without even discussing that his plan is stupid. It comes from an emotional torment I understand. I understand him. I understand Rogue and Sunspot joining him. It's still dumb as hell. And within the three part finale there is no room for any debate and a lot of flip-flopping. Which, again, as a comic reader I can put under a microscope and tell you how this makes sense with a nice good-will reading. It does. But it's buried under the high octane beats. (There wasn't even room to take in what happened to Logan. Honestly I like Logan as a character, but the joke of him being everywhere is not even a joke and there is a certain fatigue and the way Logan was not the focus of '97 makes me appreciate the show even more. I like him! It's somewhat hilarious how the Adamantium pull was the cliffhanger shockfest and then... kinda nothing... of course I know S2 has a lot to pull from with that.)
Speaking of the ladies, the way bias is showing and how two things can be true at once and interpretations can vary - let me ramble on about Rogue in all of this.
On the surface oh I can't complain. My blorbo had things to do. Things to punch, lines to cross, angst to go through - I was fed. I will rewatch so many moments for years to come. But if you want to be cynical about this, Rogue's arc revolved around a man. No, two men. They shoved a decade long on-again, off-again romance from the comics into the show that already has five seasons and never remotely hinted at this. They started with a quiet Magneto and Rogue moment so we can see jealous Gambit. And when she makes a choice after a dance and kiss, Gambit dies. The one she wants. But also Magneto seemingly for a bit. And Rogue rampages.
Equality win: Man successfully put in the fridge so the woman gets to soar. Rejoice! (This is the perfect Rogue/Gambit dynamic though; you are depicting the couple wrong if he iesn't the one with a lovestricken face enjoying to be held in her strong arms. He pines, she gets the manpain moments.)
You could absolutely argue that Rogue's whole motivation is tied to dudes. But if you want to get over this you can look closer at what she says. She remembers Remy. She does this for him. But also every other dead mutant from Genosha. We did not get to see what this would have looked like, but when she chooses Magneto, she also chooses Genosha. She chooses a place at the table, the whole "Queen" deal. And when she joins him again in the finale, she talks about "no more dead mutants" (oh sugar, he's about to destroy the world with everybody). There is just so little time it gets lost. No time for nuance and showing the amount of survivor's guilt she feels. Unlike Storm and Jean though, she is allowed to let loose. She was ready to kill. And disregarding what came next, she dropped Trask from that rooftop.
The show is extremely in favor of Magneto and Rogue, and still doesn't have enough time left to give them the right build-up, because ten episodes isn't enough. Love that Morph got to confess their feelings for Wolverine, yet I'm sure a lot of the audience is baffled with his shapeshifting-power-duplicating powerset. Something that was really nice was the journey Jubilee and Sunspot took together. The way he went from hiding his powers, coming out, being betrayed by his family, giving in to rage for a moment, ultimately wanting to and saving people - true heart of the story.
Okay, this is long and like the show has a dozen different points without following through on one single issue. Ha! I enjoyed every second of it. I have bought monthly X-Men comics for over 30 years now, they are always with me, but these past few weeks have reignited the spark. 10/10 show, highly recommend. But can people please not pretend as if they did everything right? Also with so many stupid, stupid, highly stupid things that have happened within the pages of X-Men stories... just chill.

50 Underrated Horror Films: Part 4
What in absolute hell. We made it to part 4? Well, here we go then! Oh, also, links to the other parts: One : Two : Three
Undead : Starting off with an absolute banger. This is an Australian zombie apocalypse film. If you're familiar with Ozploitation cinema, then you know how nutso it can get, and this is a perfect example of just that. The action sequences are wild crowd pleasers, and the plot twists until it nearly breaks off.
Werewolf in a Girl's Dormitory : I realize that sounds like porn. Just stay with me. It's a giallo! With a werewolf! For me, this was like finding the holy grail. Best of both worlds, truly. With... not the best looking werewolf, but this is an older movie, so cut it a little slack. It turns into a fun mystery with that special Italian flavor to it.
The Outwaters : Everyone was talking about Skinamarink. No one was talking about this. It has a similar conceit. To make a horror film that defies the idea of plot. It starts like your average found footage, then becomes a drug trip straight to the depths. It really does feel like witnessing a cosmic horror story where the horrors are, indeed, impossible to describe.
Tomie : This is the first of me cheating and actually recommending way more than one film. The Tomie film franchise is a series of loose adaptations of Junji Ito's manga of the same name, and there are nine at the moment. They get wild and weird, and they explore parts of Tomie that even the manga doesn't cover. Female monster! You need these in your life.
Murdercise : Low budget silliness trying to be throwback 80s and mostly just being hilarious and noticeably cheap. I love that. It's stupid and seems like the kind of movie that was a blast to make. I definitely felt like I was laughing with them and not at them, which made it feel really charming. A great one for a dumb movie night.
Zombie Death House : Zombies in jail! Directed by John Saxon who strangely didn't case himself in the lead like some vanity project. Rather he plays a character I have dubbed "Colonel Herbert West" if that sounds at all appealing. I mean, it clearly was to me.
Dead Birds : There aren't a ton of horror films that crossover with westerns, so this is a rare gem. A bunch of outlaws take refuge in a deeply disturbed location, and things get super dark.
Satan's Princess : A neo-noir detective story with supernatural evil at its core. Imagine if Angel Heart was dumber and way cheaper looking. With Robert Forster giving a really fun performance and an ending that had me laughing out loud.
Werewolf Bitches from Outer Space : Do you love Troma movies? Do you wish they were worse? Do I have the film for you! With scenes that were clearly filmed without permits. Random bystanders interfering with the production. Terrible werewolf masks. And pizza sex? It's a laugh riot.
Butterfly Kisses : A genuinely upsetting found footage movie that understands exactly how to use the urban legend format. There's a beastie out there that, if you stare at it, it will imprint on you like a baby duck. Then if you blink, it gets a little closer. Try to imagine how long you can go without blinking.
To Die For : Wanna watch a really shitty, late 80s Dracula? Here you go! It's dumber than a box of rocks. No one's motivations make any sense. Dracula seems like kind of a jerk despite being a romantic figure. But most of the actors are hotties and know the silly movie they're in, so it comes out fun in the end. Oh, and no one can agree when it came out. But rest assured I don't mean the one with Nicole Kidman.
Home for the Holidays : Made for TV Christmas slasher! Starring Sally Field. With a whole lot of family drama, which makes it feel authentically connected to the holiday. Merry Christmas! It's March. Ahem.
Welcome to Hell : Heavy metal horror strikes again. This time, a black metal band impregnates and kidnaps a groupie for their dark ritual. She escapes, but they're hot on her trail. The ending is nothing short of a religious experience. WINK.
Isolation : If Alien took place on a farm. With mutant cow fetuses. I swear, there is science that makes some sense of that. And it's not a comedy, I swear! It's actually very nasty with some wonderful body horror.
Dr. Crippen : Based on a real crime of passion and clearly cashing in on the Psycho craze. It's a strange one to recommend, because it's based on a true event, and the movie leans pretty hard in the bad doctor's favor. But it's worth it if you're a fan of Donald Pleasence. He gets to be his strange, little self and also be the star for once.
Tamara : What a mid-2000s romp this is. A good girl gets treated like garbage and goes bad in a witchy-demon-spell kinda way. Jenna Dewan as Tamara is perfect in every way. Gives me the gay.
Dark Harvest : Don't be like "oh, I've heard of that, didn't that just come out last year?" Yep, and everyone ignored it. When it was pretty fucking great. Set in a cursed town that openly sacrifices their kids to a fantastic monster by the name of Sawtooth Jack. His head is full of candy. Like. Go watch it.
Night Screams : Regional 80s slasher where a guy dies getting his face grilled. I'm pretty sure that shouldn't have killed him. And there are like three killers by the end? Did it before Scream, just saying. Enjoy the vibes on this one.
The Third Saturday in October Part Five and Part One : Speaking of slashers. These low budget gems came out last year, and there was a cute, little gimmick to it. You're supposed to watch five, then one. It simulates growing up pre-internet. You walk into the video store, and all they have is part five. You decide to rent it, even though you've never seen the first one. Then a week later, you find one. This really worked for me. Gave me nostalgic feelings. Please, if you watch them, try it this way.
The Vampire Doll : What if Japan made a Hammer film? Well, here it is. With one of my favorite tropes: a super cute couple investigates the horrors!
Night Feeder : Genuinely the best shot-on-video horror film I've ever seen. It actually fooled me. I thought I was watching a bad VHS rip, but no, this was not shot on film. It's stylish, clearly better than you'd expect, weird, dark, and has a really bad rock band in it.
Older Gods : Low budget and full of heart and also Lovecraftian horrors. If you're reading this and care, to me it felt as if someone wrote an original story around Azathoth. Which is cool, because no one ever uses him in anything. Also, if you're like, "so what does that mean?" It means that reality is up for debate in this one.
Cheerleader Camp : One of those that people clamor for when you talk about movies that still need a proper physical media release. I see why. It's extremely fun with its tongue lodged in its cheek. It uses every slasher trope and laughs hysterically while doing so.
Below : I love my underwater horror, and this delivers wonderfully. Haunted submarine, dude. But honestly, that wasn't the scariest part. The plot was cool, and I enjoyed the mystery, yeah yeah. But more to the point, everything that can go wrong... does. Imagine being trapped at the bottom of the ocean in a giant, metal coffin. BRR!
The Werewolf and the Yeti : How many werewolf movies are on this list? Uh, shut up. As I was saying, this is great. Paul Naschy brings a massively enjoyable werewolf flick our way again. With all his swashbuckling charm. By the time the yeti shows up, so much awesome shit had happened that I forgot he was supposed to fight a yeti. I mean...
Subspecies : And how many vampire movies are on this list? SHUT UP I SAID. Anyway. Another where I mean the whole series. All of them. Radu, the main villain, is a joy. Michelle's story arc is super dramatic and full of that Interview with the Vampire angst. Special mention to the second film, which goes all out with the gore effects.
The Hills Run Red : A horror movie about horror movies. A lost film has gained a cult following, and a bunch of dumb college kids decide to track it down. You can guess how that goes. William Sadler steals the entire movie when he shows up. Babyface also has iconic slasher energy.
Abby : This one's underrated because the filmmakers got sued by the guys that made The Exorcist and lost. This is essentially the black version of The Exorcist, and it's so good that I'm depressed we'll never get a great release of it. Carol Speed is amazing as Abby. William Marshall, Blacula himself, is in it. Track this down and get mad about it with me.
The Appointment : What the hell is this. Even I'm not sure. Edward Woodward crashes his car. I mean, I don't know what else to say about it. The film ramps up the tension and dread until a ridiculously Rube Goldberg thing happens, and you have to experience it.
Frostbiter : Another of those movies made with ten cents and a lot of gumption. A bunch of people wanted to make Evil Dead II, and so they did that. They even put an Evil Dead II poster in the cabin they filmed in, so that you wouldn't even wonder about what inspired it. Also, special mention to the chili song.
Hell's Highway : Have you ever seen a movie that was really cheap and goofy, but you could see EXACTLY how it would've looked if they'd just had the money? This is that movie. Every special effect fails. Everything's so awkward and odd. But you can tell what they MEANT for it to be. So bad it's good and then some.
Dance of the Damned : Vampire. Sorry. So this one is about a vampire who wishes he could stop living eternally, because it sucks to live that long and be so alone. He finds a sex worker who is also feeling like she wishes things would just end, and they share their pain with each other. Way better than it has any right to be, mullet and all.
The Werewolf of Washington : Werewolf. I really am sorry. Dean Stockwell plays a truly adorable werewolf. And nothing about it is meant to be taken seriously at all. Gives An American Werewolf in London a run for its money in the goober department.
The Curse of Kazuo Umezu : From the man who brought you The Drifting Classroom comes... this! It's a pair of strange tales. One about a vampire, fuck, I'm sorry. And one about a haunted house that even the narrator can't figure out what's going on. Horror anime!
Lo : A young man has recently lost his love. She was dragged to hell. That old chestnut. So he summons a demon named Lo to try to get her back. With a twist that'll make you go, wait, I thought this was a comedy?
The Spider Labyrinth : This one recently got a really nice release, and I'm so glad, because it's bonkers. A young fella is sent to Budapest to find a lost professor. Instead he finds a cult. Uh oh.
End of the Line : Apocalypse horror that turns your brain inside out just a bit. A religious cult has decided it's the end of the world, and they start executing innocents so they'll "go to heaven." Are they brainwashed or is the world actually ending? You decide!
Off Balance AKA Phantom of Death : Just barely a Phantom of the Opera riff. A pianist discovers he has a rare genetic disorder that threatens to cut his career short. Also, he's kinda losing it. Starring Michael York, Donald Pleasence, Edwige Fenech, directed by Ruggero Deodato, oh my GOD!
The Lure : Killer mermaids. Well, sirens. Kind of a mix. It's also a musical. And about how awful the entertainment industry is for young women. It's also super gory, and they eat people. Truly little else out there is like this.
Redneck Zombies : What do you want me to say? It's a Troma film. It's called... that. I'm pointing. I'm pointing at the title. That's the movie. Just... Right? Yeah?
The Killer Reserved Nine Seats : Another of those gialli that is really just And Then There Were None. But the nice part is that Italy likes to get more sexual, violent, and fucking awful than Agatha Christie ever dreamed. This one also takes place in an old theater, so the vibes are choice.
Mary Reilly : I always include at least one entry in these lists that begs the question, "how did this become underrated?" And obscure, that too. When it's a Jekyll and Hyde retelling with an emphasis on the gothic and lush, starring Julia Roberts and John Malkovich? By the way, I heard people hated it because of Roberts' terrible Irish accent. Damn, dude, I've heard way worse, fake accents than that. Anyway, this is fantastic. Watch it.
The Forest : One of those slashers where I thought I understood what I was getting into, but I did not. There's a man living in the woods who went postal on his cheating wife one day. The ghosts of his family are also haunting the woods. And he's a cannibal who feeds a guy his own girlfriend. I need other people to watch this so that I can be assured it was real.
Autopsy (2008) : I put a year, because there are around 800 horror films with that title. To further narrow it down, it's the one where Robert Patrick plays basically Herbert West fused with Mr. Freeze, and Jenette Goldstein is his nurse, and they chase a bunch of college kids around for science. Kind of a pitch black comedy with torture porn aspects, and I loved it.
Glorious : A guy gets trapped in a public restroom, which is horrifying enough. Then a cosmic horror god starts talking to him from a bathroom stall. He gives him the assignment of helping to stop the end of the world. The god is J.K. Simmons, and the whole thing is a delightful bottle movie.
Nightmare Detective : From the director that brought you Tetsuo: The Iron Man... Do I have your attention? Comes the Japanese Nightmare on Elm Street! That's oversimplifying, but that is my elevator pitch. It involves all sorts of dream powers and psychic battles that will blow your socks off.
House of Lost Souls : Directed by Umberto Lenzi, which means it feels as doobery as Ghosthouse. It's about a hotel desperate to decapitate you, and it has the silliest dialogue and acting known to man. Special mention to psychic powers being cited as a "rational explanation."
The Cleansing Hour : A priest who livestreams fake exorcisms has to rumble with a real demon. Super fun character piece where a conman has to look his sins dead in the eye. Truly obsessed with this one. Also, super fun demon effects. With Kyle Gallner, everyone's favorite scream king.
Deathrow Gameshow : What if Airplane was super violent? Or The Running Man was a dumb comedy? This hits the sweetest spot, where the humor is idiotic and the violence is cartoonishly nasty. This will speak to the sort of person, like myself, who wants their comedy to be indigestible for most audience goers.
Double Blind : This is a very recent release. A diverse group take part in a double blind drug test. Things go so extremely bad. I won't give anything away, because part of the fun is the unfolding chaos.
I can't believe I managed to do that again. Enjoy! I hope you find some new favorites from this list.
