hi! i'm gonna talk a wee bit about kit allister!
(i havent drawn kit in a while, so this art from earlier this year will have to suffice wbwbw. he doesnt have a monocle anymore)
this is kit! (also known as the gentleman thief hermes vetch!) he's one of the protagonists of eidolon vetch (my love letter to gentleman thieves, detectives, turn of the century fashion. it also has dead gods in it wbwbw)!
the whole story revolves around her trying to solve the decade-old disappearance of his lover-- who's technically also an incarnation of the dead god of history--'s ex-betrothed by becoming the assistant to her sworn brother's coworker/best friend/there's a lot happening there. which ordinarily would be fine, excepet said brother's coworker/best friend is the detective who's gotten closest to catching him during a heist.
it's a fun time! kit's on hiatus from heists and therefore hasnt interacted with orpheus (the detective) in a while and is trying so hard to pretend that orpheus and her do not have a History while also missing and wanting to return to the familiar thief-detective dynamic they had. orpheus will reminisce about a heist and she has to grit her teeth and pretend he isn't the person he's fondly talking about and it drives her up the wall.
kit and orpheus are a fun duo wbwb. gentleman thief-detective shenanigans aside, they mirror each other in a bunch of ways:
both of them take on multiple faces and identities at the drop of a hat, and have conflicting ideas about who they really are
theyre both observant! though kit's memory is far greater than orpheus'
they're both lying to important people in their lives
theyre both gender :]
more i cant think of atm
it's a fun time! kit should definitely be the god of deceit but it's orpheus instead, which i find real funny (because, well. hermes' life would be so much easier if he could just change faces and also orpheus is a detective and not a gentleman thief)!
send me [the pen emoji] and i will ramble about my characters!
#this was a Ramble#anyways meet the love of my life <3#yes the top right drawing is referenced from that one picture of jb race#it fits okay#also! in the bottom drawing kit's wearing an 1890s-1900s split skirt and a chatelaine#she likes being able to run and climb buildings and also to have all her belongings attached to her at all times#i love her#anyways thanks for the ask and allowing me to ramble!#eidolon vetch#kit allister#answered#saveugoodmadam#i swear i have stories other than eidolon vetch i just talk about them less#wbwbwbwbw

Two professors and a student (Part 3)
Word count: 2700
Warnings: phone sex (kinda?), smut, masturbation, sex
Itâs the first Monday of your winter break, and youâre back on campus. Rio had sent out an email to everyone in the course saying that if anyone wanted, she would be in her office all day so you could look at your graded exams. She hadnât put the grades into your student portal yet, so your heart is pounding as you climb up the stairs to the science building.Â
From nerves, yes, but also at the prospect of seeing Rio again.Â
You hadnât heard from her since the text Saturday morning, and yet, you had been able to think of little else. Thoughts of her and Agatha had plagued your mind all weekend and now you werenât sure how to interact with Rio in an educational setting.Â
Should you bring up the dinner tomorrow night? Or just pretend that you were her student and nothing more?Â
What if there were other students from your class in her office right now? You sort of hope thatâs the case and then you wonât have to stress about it.Â
But of course, when you knock on her office door and then push it open, itâs only Rio.Â
Sheâs sitting at her desk, looking expectantly at you, like she knew you would be coming.Â
âHey,â you say, voice sounding more shaky than you intended.Â
âY/n, to what do I owe the pleasure?â She asks, tone silky and suggestive. You gulp and take a few more steps in the office, not missing the way the door clicks shut behind you.Â
âI wanted to see my exam?â It comes out as a question instead of a statement. God, itâs almost embarrassing how much this woman affects you, especially after the other night.Â
âOf course you did,â Rio says smugly and stands up. She moves some papers around on her desk. Once she finds it, she holds it out to you so youâre forced to close the distance and take it from her.Â
Inhaling deeply, you chance a peek at the top and are pleasantly surprised to find a 97% scribbled on the paper. You exhale slowly and you can almost feel the tension seeping out of your body. All the effort you had put in had paid off.Â
You flip through the pages of the exam to see where you messed up. Youâre so focused on reading her feedback that you donât notice Rio has moved right behind you until you feel her hot breath on your neck.Â
You stiffen and you can feel goosebumps creep up your body.Â
âYou did so well,â she says, practically whispering it into your ear. âYour attention to detail, the amount of care you put into your work, itâs impressive.âÂ
âThank you,â you manage to squeak, hands wrinkling the paper from how tight youâre holding onto it. Her fingers come up to lightly play with your hair and youâre having trouble reading the words on the paper. All you can think about is Rio.Â
âWhat do you think about going to Herbâs tomorrow night?â She murmurs. Herbâs is probably the fanciest steakhouse in town. You whirl around, startling when you realize just how close she actually is to you. Her lips (not that youâre looking) are probably three inches from yours. You can see the little specks of gold in her dark eyes.Â
âI couldnât, thatâs too much,â you protest, but she puts a finger to your mouth. You freeze.Â
âAgatha and I want to reward you for being such a good girl for us,â she says and a thrill runs through you. âThatâs who you are, right?âÂ
You think youâve forgotten how to breathe. You nod ever so slightly, afraid to move too much since her finger still hasnât left your mouth.Â
And then she grabs your chin with her hand, causing you to gasp at the sudden roughness, her thumb coming to stroke lightly at your bottom lip. You part your lips reflexively and she smirks, delighting in the obvious effect she has on you.Â
âSay it,â she urges.Â
âIâm your good girl,â you rasp, heat now flaring in your stomach. Her eyes are locked on yours and you can see desire clouding in them. Youâre positive yours look the exact same. Her thumb swipes against your lip again, and this time, you flick your tongue out to brush against it. Her eyes flash and she opens her mouth to say something but thereâs a knock on the door and you jump back from her.Â
Rio chuckles sardonically, tongue pushing against her inner cheek, and calls out, Come in!âÂ
A kid youâve only seen once or twice in the entire semester pushes open the door and walks in.Â
âUm, well, thanks for this,â you say, flustered more than youâve ever been in your life, and hand the test back to Rio.Â
âProfessor Harkness is in her office, if you want to stop by and say hi,â she says casually and you donât know how she is so composed. Is she telling you to go see her? Did Agatha ask to see you?Â
You wouldnât be surprised now if they were counting on you coming to see Rio to see your test. If this whole thing had been planned.Â
But if anything, you feel like this is confirmation that they want you too.Â
âOkay,â you say, still a little breathless.Â
You take a moment to collect yourself once in the hallway again and then in almost a daze, walk to Agathaâs office.Â
You had spent so much time there in the semester earlier that you could map it with your eyes closed. And even now, when you havenât been there in months, it still looks the exact same when you finally arrive and go inside.Â
Sitting at her desk, Agatha looks positively ecstatic that youâre there.Â
âRio saidââ you begin, but trail off because youâre not sure how to explain what just happened. Youâre not sure if Agatha will be jealous. You awkwardly walk over and sit on the couch where you spent so many afternoons.Â
âHowâd you do on her exam?â She asks, but from her grin, she clearly already knows.Â
âReally good,â you say. âI think better than I did on your final.âÂ
Agatha pouts mockingly. âTrying harder to impress her more than me?âÂ
âNo! I donât â no â thatâs not ââÂ
She laughs. âSweetheart, Iâm teasing.â She stands up and comes around to sit next to you on the couch. Her body is tilted towards you and her legs come up so her thigh is against yours. You bite back a gasp at the contact. âDid Rio talk to you about dinner tomorrow?âÂ
You nod and try to contain the blush that is surely spreading on your face, but the memory of Rio calling you a good girl and tasting her thumb on your tongue makes that impossible. âHerbâs?âÂ
âHave you been?â She perches her elbow on the side of the couch and rests her head in her hand, leaning in closer.Â
âNo. Itâs too fancy for a broke college student like me,â you answer in a lame attempt at a joke. âYou guys really donât have to take me there.âÂ
Agathaâs other hand comes up to cup your cheek and rub her thumb against it. âHon, you are so much more than that. And yes, we do. We want to. Itâs been awhile since someone has caught our attention like this.âÂ
Your breath hitches. âLike what?â You dare to whisper. You find yourself also leaning in closer and canât help from glancing down at her lips.Â
She smirks. âLike this.âÂ
And then she closes the gap and your eyes close in anticipation. But her lips stop when theyâre a breath away from yours, maybe just to make sure you want this too. You want this more than life at this point, so youâre the one who makes the first real move and you kiss her. Itâs featherlight, just a ghost of a kiss lasting mere seconds, but when you pull back, her normally-blue eyes are dark and hooded.Â
Her hand on your cheek tangles itself in your hair and she pulls you in to crash your mouths together in a bruising kiss.Â
You moan into her open mouth when her tongue parts your lips and licks against yours. Her fingers move to scrapple at your hips and you figure out what she wants so you maneuver yourself into her lap without breaking the kiss. Her hands slide under your shirt and just rest against your skin, but you have to pull away to throw your head back and moan at the hot contact. Agatha doesnât hesitate before kissing down the side of your face and then down your neck. She sucks a bite into the juncture of your neck and shoulder and your hips cant in her lap.Â
âFuck,â you gasp and her nails dig into your back. You drag her mouth back to yours, panting into the kiss. You can feel her losing composure as well when her teeth nip aggressively at your lower lip. It turns you on beyond words that youâre having this kind of effect on her.Â
âWell, would you look at this?â A voice says from the doorway and you jerk back so hard that you topple off Agathaâs lap and onto the couch. Fear spikes through your body as you look andâ
âitâs Rio.Â
Part of you is relieved that it wasnât anyone else, but then again, you were just caught making out with her girlfriend. Agatha doesnât look worried at all, though. If anything, she looks proud of herself.Â
âI didnât realize when I told you to come here I was giving you permission to whore yourself out,â Rio says cooly as she walks over to the couch.Â
âIâm sorry,â you whisper and you scramble off the couch, smoothing your shirt down from where it had ridden up. Agatha rolls her eyes amusedly. âIâll, um, see you guys tomorrow night?âÂ
âSix pm, donât be late,â Rio says, eyes burning into you as you scurry out of the office.Â
Your plan is to get to your dorm as fast as possible so you can touch yourself to the memory of the kiss, desperately needing to relieve the ache that has built up in you. Â
You havenât even left the building though when your phone rings. You pull it out of your pocket and, much to your surprise, itâs Rio. Is she calling you to tell you to come back? To scold you?
You swipe to answer it and hesitantly lift your phone to your ear. âHello?âÂ
At first, you donât hear anything specific, just some muffled sounds. You say something again, but you donât hear either of them. Did Rio butt-dial you?
Youâre about to hang up when you finally hear Rio. But sheâs not talking to you.Â
âHow was it?â She says. Her voice sounds far away. Is she asking about you?
âFuck, Rio, it was so hot,â Agatha says. Your entire body tenses. Theyâre talking about you.Â
Your head starts to spin and you frantically look around for somewhere you can go.Â
âYeah? It looked hot. She looked so good with her tongue in your mouth, Aggie.âÂ
Thereâs a bathroom a few yards away. You duck into it and lock yourself in a stall. Youâre not sure you could hold the phone any closer to your ear.Â
âI thought you were going to kiss her, too,â Agatha admits. âI wanted to watch.â Someone scoffs and you think it might be Rio.Â
âI wouldâve earlier if one of my idiot students hadnât interrupted. You shouldâve seen her, so desperate for it.âÂ
âOh, I think I know what desperation looks like on her.â You can practically hear the smirk in Agathaâs voice and you blush. âAnd I know what it looks like on you, too.âÂ
Another huff. Thereâs silence for a moment and you strain your ears so you donât miss anything. And then thereâs the faintest of sounds, almost like a smacking noise. Your eyes widen. Are they kissing?
âCan you taste her on me?â You hear Agatha mutter between breaths and you think youâre about to combust on the spot. You canât resist from sliding a hand down your shorts and you gasp at how wet you are.Â
The sounds continue and you hear soft moaning, but youâre unable to distinguish who theyâre coming from.Â
And then: âGet on the desk,â Agatha orders roughly. âI never thanked you properly for Saturday morning.â Rio chuckles breathlessly and you can hear things being cleared off the space.Â
You are completely overwhelmed now, by the knowledge that Rio had fucked her the morning after you had seen them (was the dinner invitation before or after?) and now Agathaâs about to return the favor.Â
And you are listening.Â
âAre you going to tell her about your dream?â Rio asks. You hear the sound of a belt buckle and a zipper.Â
âShould I?â Agatha retorts. âDo you think she could handle knowing I had such a good dream about the three of us that you had to take care of me in my sleep?âÂ
You moan involuntarily and clamp a hand over your mouth. If they catch you listening thereâs a chance theyâll hang up and you cannot take that risk.Â
âI think she could,â Rio says, words turning into a groan at the end of the sentence. You wonder if Agatha is touching her now. âI saw how much she needed you just now. I think sheâd be a good girl and let us do whatever we wanted to her.âÂ
You nod enthusiastically like they can see you.Â
âFuck, Agatha,â Rio gasps and you think if you listen closely enough, you can hear her wetness. You slide a finger into yourself and mirror what youâre imagining Agatha doing.Â
âShe is our good girl, isnât she,â Agatha muses conversationally. You have to bite down your lip so you donât make any other noises. âCan you picture her doing this to you? Making you feel good with her fingers?âÂ
Your ring finger joins your middle finger to thrust into you and your thumb rubs at your clit. You are embarrassingly close after making out with Agatha and now this.Â
It seems like Rio is, too. âYes, fuck, I want you both.â You can hear her breaths coming out short and fast and Agatha laughs.Â
âYou both are so desperate. What am I going to do with you? I have some ideas.âÂ
You almost beg to hear them. But Rio has that covered for you.Â
âOh yeah?â She whimpers.Â
âIâm going to teach her how you like to be eaten out. How you like to be fucked. And then weâll see if sheâs as good of a learner in bed as she is in the classroom.â Rioâs moan is so loud it cuts out the next thing Agatha says. You canât be mad though because her sounds are just as hot as Agathaâs words. âAnd then weâll fuck her. Sheâll look so pretty stretched around your fingers. With my tongue in her pussy.âÂ
You taste blood from how hard you bite your lip after she says that. Your hips stutter and you are so close.Â
âFuck, Agatha,â Rio swears. âIâm going to cum.âÂ
âYeah? Cum for me, Rio. And you too, sweetheart.â You canât stop the gasp that falls from your lips when you register that Agatha is talking to you and hearing her say that sends you over the edge. Rio as well, from the sounds of it. Your orgasm is explosive, even though youâre fucking yourself in a college bathroom stall. You pant and rest your head against the wall, thoroughly ruined.Â
Your cheeks are flushed at being played like a fool. Of course they didnât accidentally call you right before they just happened to have sex.Â
Thereâs movement from Rio and Agathaâs side and then Agathaâs voice close to the speaker. âYou okay, honey?âÂ
You cough to clear your throat. âYeah,â you say weakly and they both chuckle.Â
âWeâll see you tomorrow night,â Rio says. âWear something pretty for us.â And the call disconnects.Â
You laugh in disbelief. Fuck.Â

PART II
âUnusualâ wasnât a word you wouldâve used to describe your life at all. At least not until about a year ago.
It was unusual to find a spider with such an odd color palette roaming your apartment since you were used to more dull-colored typical critters. It was also unusual that you didnât panic enough to turn the apartment upside down to look for the thing before it bit you, but there was too much work to do, and a million notes from Dr. Connors to go over. It was equally unusual that you hadnât rushed to the hospital the minute you noticed the tiny marks on your thigh.
âI mean, if it was really dangerous, it would have hurt more.â Was your reasoning to ignore it and keep scanning the pages before you. Nobody said pursuing a Ph.D. was without sacrifice.Â
By the time you tried to stand up to make more coffee just to end up collapsing on your kitchen floor, it was much too late.
From then on, âunusualâ was pretty much every dayâs motto.
Having a nightmare that night about being suffocated and unable to escape just to wake up hanging upside down and wrapped in sticky shit was the first clue. Turns out you were actually able to produce said sticky shit at will in the shape of a thin thread, then you discovered the wall-climbing abilities, and before you knew it you were roaming the city at night trying to get comfortable threading between the tall buildings, running across rooftops and challenging yourself to climb this or that building as fast as you could. You felt indestructible, alive. It was wonderful.
Youâd never forget the night of your first save either. For several reasons.
It was an ordinary night, right before returning to your apartment, when a violent shiver abruptly ran up your spine and every cell in your body commanded you to stop. When you did, a scuffle in a nearby alley caught your eye. A young girl was violently shoved against a wall by a man who pressed his hand against her mouth. The same second his hand came dangerously close to the zipper of her jacket, you practically tackled him from above and pinned him against the ground, having no clue of what to do besides throwing punches at his face until you knocked him out. A whimper coming from a dumpster behind made you realize you had an audience.
âShit,â you cursed under your breath, remembering your uncovered face, the only solution at hand is to wrap your scarf around your head to try and hide as much as possible, âOh god this feels too much like cultural appropriation for my taste,â You kept nervously rambling to yourself as you slowly approached the dumpster.
âUmâŚhi,â You greeted, âAre you okay? Did he hurt you?â
Being met with nothing but silence, you were about to leave when a soft voice replied.
âNo. He didnât. Thank you so much.â
âIs thereâŚI donât know; is there somebody you want me to call?â
âI want to call my mom.â She replied, her voice still shaking, âHe took my phone.â
âRight. Phone. Okay.â You quickly made your way back to the unconscious man and pawed his clothes looking for it. He let out a groan in protest.
âYeah it doesnât feel right, does it asshole?â You muttered as you retrieved it from one of his pockets. Then you shoved him onto his stomach to tie his hands and legs behind his back before returning to the girl.
âHere. It still works,â You just held it over the dumpster, seeing nothing but her pale hand as it reached out to take it before you took a few steps back.Â
âNo, wait,â She immediately pleaded, âPlease donât leave me alone with him.â
âLike hell I am. Iâm staying right here.â
So you waited with her until the police arrived. However, the minute you saw the flickering lights and heard the approaching siren, you retreated into the dark part of the alley and climbed onto the nearest building to escape through the rooftops.
It wasnât until you were back in your apartment that you realized youâd been smiling all the way home. Carefully shutting the window behind you, you let yourself fall onto the couch and screamed joyfully, the pillow muffling the sound.
She was okay. A person was okay because you could intervene and do something about it.
However, a new wave of shivers flooded your veins so abruptly that you sat down immediately.
âYeah, I know how that feels,â Came a feminine voice from the unlit kitchen, âBeing able to help, I mean.â
You scrambled to your feet and started walking backward. However, the voice didnât remain hidden for too long. A woman emerged from the shadows, dressed in red with a yellow hairband pushing her near-afro hair back. She greeted you with a soft smile.
âYour reflexes need polishing,â
âMyâŚ?â You repeated, dumbfounded.
âAnd you have to learn how to fight properly. Randomly throwing punches isnât always going to cut it,â
âIâm sorry, who are you? Why are you in my apartment? Were you following me? Do you know aboutâŚ?â
âWhoa, slow down, kid. I know you have questions, and I might be able to help you with that. But youâre going to have to come with me.â
âAlright, IâllâŚlet me just get my car keys,â
âOh, sweetie,â The woman said in between laughs, not malicious but truly amused, âYou have so much to learn,â
You were starting to wonder why she had elongated that âoâ like that until, after pressing a few buttons on the device around her wrist, something that you wouldâve described as a âblack hole on LSDâ erupted in the middle of your living room.
That night you learned that her name was Jessica Drews and that she was completely right about you having so much to learn. With a four-second-o.
Over the following months, you became capable of things you didnât think possible. Walls that took you a minute to climb became easy obstacles that didnât take up more than fifteen seconds of your time, your fighting skills had also improved exponentially under Jessâs tutelage, and of course, going from a life where you could count your friends with less than one hand to being constantly surrounded by amazing (no pun intended) Spider-People who not only understood the changes you were going through but warmly welcomed you into their circle was more than you couldâve asked for.
Well, perhaps some more willingly than others. And by others you meant him.
He, who seemed to be always around, silently watching but never intervening.
He, who despite being allegedly âalways locked up in his labâ always seemed to personally oversee your training since day one.
Whom youâd tried to greet as gleefully as you did the others just to receive, if anything, a vague nod of acknowledgment. In your first three months, you had spoken maybe four times. Well, you had. He only hummed, nodded, or answered in monosyllables. You knew better than to waste your energy with people like that, but for some reason you were unwilling to just accept Miguel OâHara didnât like you and that was that.
âFor some reasonâ being code for âIâm one second away from fainting every time he as much as looks in my direction,â
You werenât a child, for crying out loud. You were aware that no matter how cold, distant, and seemingly indifferent the leader of your new team was, he was an insanely attractive man. Even with the fangsâŚno, especially with the fangs, for some reason. His whole aura that screamed âcompletely-inaccessible-frighteningly-powerful-twice-my-size-manâ had you harboring a huge crush on him within two months of meeting him. So painfully unrequited that it was embarrassing.  Just the fact he could ignore your greetings and surely never think twice of it but you would spend the rest of the day wondering what you couldâve possibly said to make him at least say âhelloâ back made you want to scream into a pillow until your throat burned.
It was right up there with the time heâd muttered âmuch betterâ when he saw you land a kick youâd been practicing and those three seconds kept playing on your head for the rest of the week.
The night of your first mission you decided you were going to prove your worth, not to your crush but to your team leader.
âI told him youâre ready,â Jess said with a proud smile, âHeâs going to call you in sometime throughout the day to let you know where youâll be going and with whom, probably me. How do you feel?â
âExcited, I guess,â You replied, pressing your lips together anxiously, âAlso nervous. I donât want to screw this up.â
âWith me as your mentor? Thatâs unlikely,â Jess replied with a wink, giving you an encouraging pat on your shoulder as she walked away.
However, the day continued normally. You did some assigned tasks here and there, which mostly included helping Spider-Byte to keep everything running smoothly given your background in the tech field. You grabbed lunch, then thought it would be a good idea to train some more before going away.
You were beginning to lose all hope when, as you leaned down to fix some wiring, Lyla popped right beside your head and called your name so loudly you hit your head against the metal and hissed. One year and still you hadnât used to the way she appeared out of nowhere.
âOops, sorry,â She promptly apologized, âWell youâll have to walk that off, Miguel wants to see you STAT.â
âHow am I supposed to walk a head injury off, Lyla?â You joked, rubbing your forehead as you rushed across the halls with the holographical figure floating after you.
âNot in my code,â She replied using her usual excuse.
When you walked into his working space, Miguelâs back was turned to you as he used a digital pen to do some annotations on what looked like blueprints of new equipment. After he didnât react to your presence for a few seconds, you hesitantly walked closer and cleared your throat.
âThat looks nice. Is it a new suit?â You asked, as always, trying to start a conversation.
âI just received an alert about theâŚâ He stopped and sighed as if saying the silly nickname was physically painful to him, ââŚthe Go-Home-Machine. It said there was a small power overload since we sent back that Vulture from the 192-011 Universe.â
âYeah, but Byte and I are already working on that and it should be fully functional by tomorrow morning,â You replied, a bit confused as to what that had to do with your mission.
âGood. Let me know as soon as itâs fixed.â Miguel hastily replied, not even turning to face you until a whole minute passed and he realized you were still standing there. Even then, he just barely turned his head.
âThatâs all, (Y/N). Thank you.â
Thatâs all? What do you mean thatâs all?
âWas there something else you wanted to do?â He asked. Shit. Youâd said that out loud.
âIâŚJessica told me that Iâm ready to go on a mission and that today youâŚâ
âI said I would think about it, and I have.â
He fell silent again. No matter how attractive he was, you were starting to truly get pissed at his stupid theatrical antics.
âAnd?â
âAnd the answerâs no. Youâre not ready yet.â
That felt like all the disappointments in your entire life added up and multiplied by ten. Especially because of how easily he dismissed you despite being aware of how hard youâd worked, how many nights you decided to forgo hours of sleep just to train and polish every movement until it was as close to flawless as you could.
âNot ready yet?â You practically hissed in a voice you almost didnât recognize. Hell, it was enough for him to put down the pen. âNot ready yet? That kid Pavitr has been here for what? A month? And heâs already going off on missions. Alone, I might add!â
Unsurprisingly, he did not answer.
âAnd heâs very, very good, Iâm not saying he isnât. But Iâm just as good. And more experienced, both at being here and at being a Spider-Person. I have completed every training scenario youâve thrown my way, worked my ass off to understand every bit of information regarding interdimensional traveling, and studied the protocol to control anomalies, what is it that you still need me to prove?â
He took a deep breath. So deep that his shoulders rose, flexing the muscles of his back in such a way that if you hadnât been so angry, you wouldâve been too distracted to keep arguing. Even with your blood boiling, you couldnât help but stare and feel your stomach tense at the sight.
âDo you like being part of this team, (Y/N)? Do you like training in our headquarters, having access to all our information, and maintaining contact with the other members of this society?â
âOf course I do,â You replied immediately. Slowly, Miguel turned around to face you completely and walked towards you, descending the two small steps that separated you until he stood towering over you. Even if your knees were about to give in to this unexpected closeness, this wasnât the time to fold. You held his glare defiantly and folded your arms in an attempt to mentally guard yourself against him.
âThen I suggest you get in line and do as youâre told,â He said in a low voice. But it wasnât threatening, or condescending. It was an odd, flat tone. Tired, perhaps. Almost as ifâŚas if he was reprimanding you against his will.
He was almost unbearably close. You could feel his breath hitting your face. If right then all logic flew out of the window and you stood on your tiptoes you couldâŚ
âIâll do that when youâve earned my respect, and I have a policy of reciprocity when it comes to respect, Miguel. Iâve been in line for a year, Iâve listened, learned, and improved so much that if youâre still looking down on me, then itâs your problem, not mine. And no self-righteous, big-headedâŚâ
âJust get out,â He cut you off, once again turning his back to you and walking towards the blueprints again.
âOh no, Iâm not finishedâŚâ You insisted, trying to follow him. However, as soon as you gave one step forward he turned around so violently that you stumbled backward and stared at him with something you hadnât felt towards him up until then: fear.
âYes, you are,â Was his only reply. As dull as the others.
While you could only see his face for a moment before he walked past you and left the room, something about his expression stuck with you even hours later, when you laid on your bed at night and combed through the scene over and over. You thought he would be fuming, maybe even shocked that youâd dared to talk to him like that. The last thing you expected was for him to lookâŚupset. Hurt, even. The mere thought of you being able to hurt Miguel OâHara was as ridiculous as imagining a goldfish fighting back against a shark. Still, you realized that even if you thought he was in the wrong, you felt bad about how things went down back there. You would never understand what being the leader of hundreds of super-powered people was like. Commanding each and directing their particular abilities as best as he could all while maintaining a vigilant eye on endless strings of causes and effects because he knew firsthand the consequences of being careless with them.
Even if he had made a mistake with you and of course you still wanted to address it later, right then all you wanted was to apologize.
And so, not even an hour later you were roaming the halls of the HQ, your heart beating furiously as you got closer to his quarters, wondering what you could even begin to say.
When the automatic doors slid open, you stepped inside and turned back to look as the doors closed behind you. Well, no turning back now.
âMiguel?â You called, looking around the large room, pondering whether a first-name basis was okay. After everything that had happened, going back to Mr. OâHara sounded terribly stupid. Then your eyes landed on the row of screens where he spent most of his time. An extremely ill-timed wave of curiosity filled your chest as you approached them, taking another look at the seemingly empty room before stepping onto the platform. Getting bolder, you reached out your hand and brushed your fingertips across one of the screens. It immediately came to life with a blue glow, startling you and making you curse under your breath. You were about to look for a button to switch it off when a video started playing automatically from where he had left off. He was in it, holding a young girl. Miguel wasnât just smiling. He was laughing. His laugh was exactly as youâd pictured it. Not particularly loud, but hearty and low. He had the kind of laugh that made you unwittingly smile as well as a newfound sympathy filled your chest as tears filled your eyes when you pictured that being taken from him just like that. How could one have a family, and then one day be completely alone and keep going?
With a renewed disposition to make things better between you, your hand reached out for the switch that would turn the screen off until a third voice piqued your interest. It belonged to whoever was holding the camera.
âWould you please stop hoarding her? I deserve some mother-daughter time too! Here, hold this thing and give her to me,â The voice said between laughs. There was something about that voice that made an extremely cold shiver run down your spine.
âFine, youâre right. Bueno pues, mijita, ve con mamĂĄ, Âżquieres ir con mamĂĄ?â
The picture became blurry as the camera switched places with a giggling Gabriella, who could be briefly seen stretching her arms toward the third figure.
âAlright,â Came Miguelâs voice again, âBut when I turn the camera towards you I want both of you to blow Daddy a kiss, can you do that for me?â
Without waiting for an answer, he turned the camera around.
And then you found yourself staring into your own eyes. They werenât quite the same shade as yours, and âyourâ hair was styled differently. And âyouâ had freckles. But otherwise, it was like staring into an interdimensional mirror. Then, your voice spoke.
âOkay sweetie, letâs humor him, shall we? Blow Daddy a kiss. And another one from me because now I have to use both arms to hold you, my big girl!â
Miguel laughed again at the way his daughterâs face lit up at being called a âbig girlâ.
âÂżSaben que las amo a las dos, verdad?â
âAnd Gabriella loves you too. I think youâreâŚnice enough.â
â(Y/N), I donât think you marry somebody for ânice enoughâ, mi amor,â
âI love you too. Against my better judgment.â
With one last interrupted laugh, the video ended, and, in a cruel irony, the once again black screen showed your actual reflection.
Except this time, it wasnât the only one. With a loud gasp, you turned around. After seeing him in that video, it became much more evident that the Miguel in it was nothing but a memory of the past. And in a matter of seconds, everything shifted into place like a gloomy puzzle. His expression was unreadable, though he wasnât even looking at you. His eyes were fixed on the empty screen.
âI wasnât supposed to ever see that, was I?â Was the only thing that came to your mind after a lengthy, tense silence.
âWhat good would it have done?â He replied, almost numbly.
âSo thatâs why youâve alwaysâŚstared?â You kept pushing. Against your better judgment, you thought.
âIt was at first,â Came his only response. Like always, it seemed like you would have to tear the answers off him.
âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â You asked, turning your head to look for his eyes. Even then, something warm filled your chest. Something that made your heart beat so quickly you felt as if it would stop at any moment, and it spread all over you no matter how much you tried to fend it off. Hope.
Surprisingly, this time he caved in and looked at you. Still, the answer never came. For the first time in all the time youâd known him, Miguel OâHara was at a loss for words. And that said more than anything he couldâve come up with.
âAnd you expect me to believe that, by sheer chance, you happened to catch feelings for somebody who is practically your wifeâs interdimensional twin?â
âIt sounds so much worse when you say it like that,â Was that a hint of a smile? An attempt at a joke? One year and the only time heâd bothered to be decent to you was when you were talking about how much you looked like her?
With an annoyed look, you moved away from him and started to make your way to the exit.
âDo you think I wanted this?â He spoke rather loudly, his whispers going out of the window as he started to follow you across the room.
Miguel OâHara following you to keep you from leaving. Just hours before you wouldâve died of happiness at the mere thought of this scenario. Right now, your brain was a flurry of thoughts and emotions that you didnât know how to handle.
âI was doing an amazing job at keeping my distance. Watching you from afar, seeing you laugh, grow, win everybody over with that awfully big heart of yours, and still I reined myself in,â He continued, âTodayâs the perfect example. You thought I didnât respect you, for fuckâs sake! I respect you so much that every single day I have ignored you and pretended you are nothing but another face in the halls. Damn it, (Y/N), I couldnât even look you in the eye when for months youâve been all Iâve wanted. All because I didnât know if I loved you or what was left of her. And I didnât want you to get involved in shit thatâs mine to figure out.â
Hearing him not only withdraw his previous statement of you not being capable of doing things and accepting the problem was his and not yours made you stop in your tracks.
Fine, the sudden (though odd) love declaration had something to do with it too.
âSo you donât think Iâm not ready?â You asked, turning around and even taking some steps towards him.
âAre you serious? Iâve watched you closely all these months. You learn in days what others do in weeks. You push yourself way more than so many of our members and yet Iâve never, ever seen you become overconfident. Today you never said you knew everything. You said you knew enough.â
This time, it was you who remained silent. There was something else you wanted him to elaborate on, and from the look in his eyes, you realized he knew damn well what it was.
âYou were right. The problem wasnât yours. It was mine all along. I could manage to push you away and keep my feelings at bay. But knowing that you were eventually going to go out there and take so many risks...worst case scenario, you could get hurt or not come back at all. That was too much for me to handle, sâall.â
âWere you afraid of losing meâŚ?â You started to ask just for him to interrupt you.
âYes. Very much.â However, you lifted a hand to stop him. You werenât finished.
âWere you afraid of losing me, or were you afraid of losing her again, Miguel?â
Three seconds later, when no answer came out of his mouth, you were about to turn around once again when he rushed and stood in front of you. For a second, you thought he was going to grab your shoulders to keep you in place. Not wanting to come off as if he was forcing you to stay, his hands just hovered on both sides of your shoulders without touching you.
âListen, she wasnât a picky eater like you are. But I swear that woman never drank enough water and every time I see you thereâs either a bottle in your hand or laying around. And she was so, so messy. It took us at least ten minutes to find the keys every single timeâŚand Spider-Byte said you sort your tools by size and color. Color. (Y/N), I donât think even IâŚâ
âAre you getting somewhere with this?â
âYouâre not her, (Y/N). You have never been, and you never will, I know that. I want you to know that I wouldnât want you to be any other way. I love you.â
After that, he moved out of the way and folded his arms.
âIf you want to go back to your dimension and stay there for a whileâŚor for good, I donât know, I completelyâŚâ
âI love you too, you know?â You cut him off, pressing your lips together after blurting out the three words thatâd been haunting you for the past months. Words that up until now you were sure would never leave your chest. When you turned to look at him, you saw in his eyes what minutes ago had filled yours. Hope.
God, his face was so hauntingly beautiful when his features softened.
âWhat do you want from me?â You finally asked him, your voice shaky from the effect you knew his answer would have regardless of what it was.
Miguel moved closer to you almost hesitantly, his eyes never leaving yours. When he was close enough, he reached out with both his hands and slid them up the back of your neck, his thumbs tucked in front of your ears as his warm palms engulfed the back of your head so he could hold you while he brought his face down to press his forehead against yours.
âMi amor, Iâd give you all I am and be happy with whatever youâre willing to give me for now,â Â
You knew it would take some time for you to get used to hearing him say things like that without wondering if you were the only one in his mind when he did. It would be a while until you felt completely certain that you were made of flesh and bone and not just a ghost in his eyes, but it would happen. You saw his eyes as he drew his face closer to yours and when your lips touched, you knew that it would definitely happen sooner or later. Until then, you thought as you stood on your tiptoes when he almost desperately pressed his lips onto yours, he was very much worth the wait.

Physioâs Daughter Part 10
Read the rest of the series here!
Warnings: cursing, thatâs about it
WC: 4.6k
A/N: itâs almost over yall
You woke up tangled in the bedsheets, blinking a few times before realizing your head was just on the mattress and your pillow was on the ground. You sit up slightly, reaching for the pillow to bring it back under your head. You roll over to check the clock and thatâs when you remember this isnât your hotel room. This isnât your bed, this is Jessieâs bed. Only Jessie wasnât in bed anymore.
Pushing up you look around the room, finding it empty, no signs of Jessie, you also didnât hear the water running in the bathroom, she wasnât anywhere you could see in the room. You notice her phone, wallet, and ID badge are all missing from the bedside table. She had left.
You feel your heart sink into your stomach. A twisted feeling building inside of you. She wasnât here. You were waking up alone.
Unsure of what to do, you climbed out of bed, making your way to the bathroom. It seemed untouched from last night, both of your clothes still in a pile on the floor, her medal still on the counter, both of your toothbrushes in a cup. You brush your teeth and try to keep your mind from spiraling at the fact that Jessie was gone.
You decide to check your phone which you failed to charge last night, maybe she had texted you. Youâre quickly able to check your phone. Disappointment fills your body when you see a few messages from family who were congratulating you on your hard work and a few messages from Olivia.
Olivia: Iâm down to help
Olivia: What do you need?
Olivia: assuming youâre having a good night ;) and are too busy to respond, just catch up with me in the morning.
The screen goes black only a second later, the battery finally dead. You sigh, not even sure if you needed her help anymore, it seemed Jessie didnât care to stick around to be there when you woke up this morning. Maybe she had media or a meeting but given that you were giving the athletes schedules, you knew that wasnât true.
You wander back into the bathroom, grabbing out the clothes that are yours from the heap on the floor. Were you supposed to change and leave Jessieâs clothes? Deciding it didnât matter and you could bring her back her clothes another time you just bundle them up in your arms before sliding on your shoes, not bothering to tie the laces and you head to the door.
You make the quick run to your room, you don't need to be caught wearing a UCLA shirt, giving everyone the wrong idea of what you two did last night.
âWell well well, look what we have here.â Olivia says, coming around the corner giving you a glance over. âIâd ask where you spend the night but the UCLA shirt and the fact that you two were practically inseparable last night is enough information.â
âItâs not what you think.â Out of insecurity you wrap your hands across your chest, covering the UCLA logo.
âI think you spent the night in a certain captainâs bed.â
âOkay then it is what you think, but it wasnât like that, nothing happened.â
âSure.â You can tell by Oliviaâs tone of voice and the roll of her eyes that she doesnât believe you at all.
âIâm serious.â You can feel your cheeks starting to heat up. âShe was feeling too tired, so we just went to bed, nothing happenedâ Technically saying nothing happened was a lie, but if you told Olivia you had the captain grinding in your lap as you two made out, she would assume a lot more happened. You instead let her make up whatever she wanted in her mind.
âWhatever you say.â She gives you a wink.
âOlivia, I donât really want to talk about it, nothing happened and then she left wasnât in the room when I woke up.â
âOh.â Oliviaâs tone immediately shifts to one of sympathy.
âYeah.â It was silly to be so upset about Jessie leaving, you two werenât together, you didnât even sleep together, there was no reason you should expect her to have stayed. Except that you had, you had envisioned waking up next to her, being able to roll over and cuddle into her body, you had pictured a quiet morning with the two of you under her sheets. But that was your fault, not hers.
âSo whatâs the favor you need anyway?â Olivia tries to change the subject, not knowing the favor you were planning to ask was related to Jessie.
âOh right, well, I donât know if I really need it anymore. What I was going to do was-â you get interrupted by knocking on the door.
Olivia makes the move toward the door, opening it a crack before she turns back to look at you, her face with an uncomfortable look on it. âItâs for you.â She opens the door more and now you see Jessie standing in the doorway, seemingly out of breath.
âCan I come in?â She asks, still panting slightly.
âI donât know if thatâs a good ideaâ Olivia starts as if sheâs trying to defend you from Jessie, protect you. She then just looks at you.
âItâs fine.â You nod and Jessie steps into the room, the door barely closes before she starts explaining herself.
âI got pulled for drug testing this morning, thatâs why I wasnât in bed this morning.â Jessie then looks at Olivia then back at you then back to Olivia. You can feel the tension in the uncomfortable stare they give each other before they break eye contact and both look at you.
âShe already knew where I was, itâs fine.â You reassure Jessie before giving Olivia a glance hoping she doesnât do anything to make you regret not taking this conversation into the hall.
âI got pulled by the doping committee, randomized testing and all, they came to the door, I didnât get time to wake you and then they donât let you on your phone so I couldnât text you, I wanted to leave a note but apparently that can be considered âtamperingâ with the test, so I just had to leave.â Jessie rambles, her hands moving quickly as she explains where she was this morning.
She takes a breath. Sheâs telling you information you already knew, as a trainer you were well versed on the doping committee protocols. âI thought Iâd be back before you woke up, thatâs why I ran back. Iâm so sorry, I didnât mean to leave you to wake up alone.â
âItâs alright.â You canât help but hold back your laugh a bit. You were upset this morning when you woke up alone, but you believed Jessieâs story, given that sheâs breathing hard you fully believe she sprinted here from the testing center, that she tried to make it back before you woke up. âThatâs just how this is going, everyone and everything is in our way.â
âI know, but I felt terrible when I got back and saw you were gone. I sent a text on the way back, you never read it, though so I thought youâd still be asleep in bed, and then when I got there you were gone.â
It was obvious Jessie was a little panicked still despite your attempt to find humor in this situation. âMy phone died.â You just now remembered, you stand up to go plug it in.
âRight, sorry I shouldâve let you charge yours last night.â
To be fair to Jessie, charging your own phone wasnât at the forefront of your mind when you were thinking about crawling into bed with her, so it was no oneâs fault your phone had died. You were too caught up in getting to be in her bed, in getting to hold her, soaking in the feeling of her head on your chest, the smell of the hotel shampoo on her hair, the way her fingers twitched against your stomach as she fell asleep. No one was to blame for your phone being dead. âNo worries.â
She looks up from where her hands are pulling at the lint on her shirt. âSo are we good?â
âWeâre good, no harm.â You reassure her. âWhat are your plans for the day?â You look over to the clock to see it was still early in the morning.
âIâm grabbing coffee with my sister this morning, then I think doing some touristy stuff with my family, theyâre flying out this afternoon.â
That was your chance. She was going to be free this evening. You could ask her on a date. An actual date and not whatever you two have been sneaking around doing. âCool.â You chicken out.
âWhat about you?â
âProbably going to do touristy stuff as well, I donât really know, we have a lot of stuff to start packing too.â You quickly look at Olivia and then eye the bathroom door. She gets the hint and walks herself into the bathroom, closing the door behind her and turning on the shower. You take a breath in, remembering that she was the one who invited you into her bed last night, she wants this just as much as you do. âSo then are you free tonight?â
âYeah I think so, I should be.â
âCan I pick you up at 5 for something then?â
âSomething? How descriptive of you. By âsomethingâ do you mean a date?â She brings her fingers up to air, quoting your choice of words.
âI donât know if what Iâm thinking is really a date, but we can also grab dinner if you want, so that can be as a date.â
âHmm mysterious,â the way she pauses makes you nervous. âAlright Iâm in.â She says after thinking for a second.
âIâll come by to get you at 5 then!â
âSee you at 5.â She leans in, placing a delicate kiss to your lips. Her actions take you by surprise and you barely react in time to kiss her back before sheâs pulling away. She steps out into the hallway and the door closes behind her.
She had never kissed you like that before. It was almost casual. As if you two kissed everyday, as if you hadnât only kissed a few occasions, as if those kisses you had shared werenât undercover, in secret. She kissed you as if everyone in the world already knew you were together. It was different.
Olivia comes out of the bathroom as soon as she hears the door close and you quickly grab her attention again. âOkay so change of plans, I will need that favor.â
You picked up Jessie at her door promptly at 5. She opened the door in a pair of black pants and a simple white shirt. It was such a simple outfit and yet she made it look incredible.
âCan I use your bathroom really quick before we go?â You asked, pointing into the room.
âSuuuure. Why didnât you go in your own room?â
âI donât know, I just didnât.â That was kind of a lie.
When you came out of the bathroom you handed Jessie back the folded clothes you had worn the night before. âI also brought these back. I didnât know if you wanted them washed or what, so I can take them back if you want me to wash them.â
âNo, they're fine. Iâm going to have to wash all my clothes when we get back home anyway.â She takes them from your hands and sets them on the bench in the room.
âAlright, letâs go!â You hold the door open for Jessie before leading her to what was your pre-date activity.
âDonât peak.â You say as you walk Jessie through the streets. Your hand pulling hers behind you. It wasnât much further you had only asked her to close her eyes when you were a short distance away. âStop here.â You position her in front of you, your hands come to cover her eyes, gently shielding her vision. âOkay open.â You say softly into her ear.
âWhat are we doing here?â Jessie says when you uncover her eyes, revealing to her the same stadium sheâs been playing in the past few weeks.
âIâll show you.â You open the backpack you brought with pulling out Oliviaâs media pass, scanning it to the door. You hear the door unlock and you hold it open, gesturing for Jessie to enter. She takes a step inside and then turns back to look at you. You close the door and walk up to her, giving her a smile as you walk to lead her down the hallways.
âHere.â You say again scanning Oliviaâs badge and waiting for the green light, you open the door leading to the tunnel to the field. âGo.â You gesture to her to walk down the tunnel. She gets to the end and stops, just before reaching the pitch.
âAre we allowed to be here?â She turns back asking.
âYeah, media access gets cut off tomorrow after closing ceremonies, they have free reign until then.â You get to where sheâs standing and put down your bag. You unzip it and pull out the wrapped up sweatshirt that contained Jessieâs medal inside. You unwrap it and hold it out to her. âPlus who are they to deny the gold medalist access to the field?â
âWhere did you get this?â She questions you as she takes it from your hand and puts it around her neck.
âDonât worry about it. But also maybe donât leave it just sitting on the counter in your bathroom, Iâve heard those things are in high demand around here.â You give her a wink before putting the sweatshirt back in the bag.
You point out to the field, the sun just starting to make the field glow as it begins to set. âLook, I know itâs not the same, but you said you missed getting the moment of peace, quiet, being able to soak in everything on the field, so I wanted to give you that. I know itâs probably not quite what you meant since your teammates arenât here and the high of winning is probably pretty worn off but, I figured you could go sit, soak it in, enjoy that moment.â
âYeah?â Sheâs got a grin across her face.
âYeah, go!â You point out to the field again and Jessie turns away from you. Relief runs through your body, you had been worried Jessie would think it was weird, you bringing her to the field, but she seemed excited at the idea.
What you didnât tell Jessie about the evening you had planned was that you also had set up a picnic, a blanket, a cooler with snacks, drinks, all tucked away, you and Olivia had come to the field earlier to drop it off. You didnât want her to feel forced to share this moment with you, so you bit your tongue when it came to telling her about the picnic. You just stood by the tunnel and watched as she stepped onto the pitch, spinning around as she walked toward the middle.
She sat herself down, looking around again before lying back, her hands coming to rest under her head. You canât help but just watch, out in her own little world you watch her shift around, sitting up, laying down, standing, walking around the pitch. Taking a moment at each corner of the field, you watch as she takes deep breaths, closing her eyes at each one for a couple moments before moving to another spot on the pitch. She sits again, this time in the spot from which she took her penalty. Sheâs got one hand clutched around the medal, the other by her side, playing with the grass below her.
âHey!â She shouts at you before waving you over. She pats the grass next to her and you jog out to her and sit down. Her knee and shoulder come into contact with yours as you sit down completely disregarding her personal space. âThank you.â
Not sure why sheâs thanking you, you turn to look at Jessie. âHuh?â The sun is hitting her face just right, her skin glowing in the yellow and orange light, her freckles even more prominent on her skin.
For this.â She waves to the stadium around you.
âOh I mean itâs nothing.â It really was, all you had done was ask Olivia for her badge, other than that, there wasnât much facilitating on your end.
âItâs not nothing, it was really nice of you to think of doing this for me. I know it was simple, but it means a lot to me, both being able to soak in the moment and that you remembered that tiny detail.â She lets a hand come and rest on your thigh.
Not wanting to make too forward of a move, you slowly let your head come to rest on Jessie's shoulder, leaning slightly into her body.
âThis really is peaceful. I can see why you missed not having this.â
âYeah itâs nice isnât it?â She leans her own head to rest on yours. The warmth of the sun on your face and the feeling of Jessieâs body let you relax, closing your eyes and breathing in the fresh grass and the warm breeze.
Interrupting your peace, your stomach rumbles loud enough to send Jessie into a giggle fit. âOh my, hungry are we?â
âStoooop.â You lay back covering your face, feeling embarrassed by the noise.
Jessie glances at the watch on her wrist. âWe can get going to dinner, sorry I didnât realize how long weâve been here.â
âWell, I actually packed a picnic, itâs just over there, but we can go to a restaurant if youâd prefer.â
âWhy didnât you say anything about the picnic, weâve been here for almost 2 hours?â She turns back to look at where you were lying.
You sit up and look at Jessie. âI just didnât want you to feel forced to spend your moment soaking it in with me, eating, so I didnât say anything.â
âYouâre really sweet, has anyone ever told you that?â Jessie tilts her head blinking a few times at you. You canât help but have the urge to kiss her, her smile, her freckles,the way her hair framed her face, all of it, every aspect of her was perfect.
âJust my mom.â You say half jokingly a laugh coming out as you spoke to her, but you also meant it seriously. Youâd never been described as an adult, by one of your peers as sweet. As a little girl people called you sweet when youâd go to work with your Mom and youâd try to help her. You other flings and girls you had tried to date never described you as sweet, you got called nice, or hot, never sweet. It was nice to be called sweet.
âNo Iâm serious, youâre sweet and caring, you pay attention to details, youâre just a good person, I know thatâs maybe not the most descriptive way to put it, but just being a good person is so hard to find sometimes. Go get the picnic.â
You donât have to be told twice, youâre scrambling to stand and running across the pitch to where the basket sat. You try to run back with it in hand but that fails when you realize itâs quite heavy. Jessie stands up and helps spread the blanket before she takes off her shoes, you do the same and both climb onto the blanket.
Jessie begins pulling throngs from the basket. âWhere did you get all of these? They look delicious!â She holds up a container with some sandwiches in it and another with fruit.
âA place down the street, I got lunch there the other day, it was really good.â Nodding your head you begin to get out plates and napkins, handing them to Jessie.
Once you have all the food split except the dessert Jessie holds out up the croissant from her plate in your direction. âCheers?â
âThatâs bread.â
âI know, but still, tap yours on mine. Cheers me.â A certain seriousness in her voice told you she wasnât going to let you not participate. Grabbing your own croissant you hold it up toward her.
âTo a gold medal?â You offer as youâre not sure what Jessie wants to cheers for.
âNo, cheers to this, to us, finally having our first date.â
âSo is this our first official date then?â
âYeah I guess it is.â
Tapping your bread to hers you then take a bite and watch her do the same. She lets out a satisfied hum. âThis is incredible.â She takes another bite before even finishing her first.
Your first official date ends up being way less nerve wracking than you expected. It feels like youâre back in the training room all those months ago, just the two of you chatting and laughing while you worked on her calf. Only now it was the two of you, in regular clothes, no massaging, no pressure of work, no fears of being walked in on. Just the two of you, enjoying dinner. As the sunlight begins to fade, you and Jessie finish up your meal and break into the dessert. Itâs a few small pieces of cake.
âI wasnât sure what flavors of cake you liked.â You defend yourself as Jessie slowly turns to look at you and eyebrow raised questioning you silently as she pulls multiple containers with cake in them.
Sheâs got one in each hand and two in her lap. She looks down at the cakes and then up to you with a smile. âSo you bought them all?â
âNot all of them.â You think back to all the options the bakery had. âJust most of them.â
The two of you dig into the cakes, taking bites off of each piece, claiming each one is better than the last piece you tried.
âLet me try that one.â You point to the container in Jessieâs hand with a strawberry piece in it. Expecting Jessie to hand you the container you hold your hand out. Instead she digs her own fork into the cake before holding it out to you. You hesitate for a moment before leaning over to take the bite, youâd kissed the girl, sharing a fork wasnât anything you should be getting in your head about.
âThat oneâs the best one yet.â You say once you swallow.
âYouâre saying that about all of them!â Jessie says. You notice her eyes catch on your face and specifically your lips when she talks to you.
âYou got a little something.â Jessie points to the corner of her own mouth.
âOh.â You attempt to wipe it with the napkin in your lap.
âHere.â Jessie reaches out, wiping below your lip with her thumb. You could feel your heart start racing as Jessie brought her thumb to her own mouth, licking it and letting out a soft moan. âMmmm, strawberry frosting.â
âI didnât peg you to have a sweet tooth.â
âWhy? Because Iâm an athlete? My parents used to tease that I only played soccer so that I could eat all the sweets I wanted. And while itâs not the only reason, it sure is a perk to the job.â
âI guess, Iâve just never seen you with anything sweet, except maybe your coffee order.â
âI obviously have a sweet tooth, I like you.â When you just squint at her she clarifies. âGet it, because youâre sweet.â
You canât help but roll your eyes. âYouâll be a really good dad someday with those dad jokes Fleming.â You tease her.
âShush.â She pushes you on the shoulder slightly. Giving into her behavior you pretend sheâs shoved you a lot harder, you let yourself fall backward onto the grass. Jessie covers her mouth as she laughs. You loved the sound of her laugh. Sheâd laugh softly sometime, quiet and to herself, other times when something really made her laugh you could hear her laughing rooms away.
âI canât believe youâd push me over!â You dramatically throw your hand across your forehead.
âI didnât push you that hard.â She says between laughs. âHere.â She gets up onto her knees and climbs closer to you. Jessie holds out her hand to you, you take it but instead of helping yourself up, you take the opportunity to pull her down.
She lets out a yelp as she lands on top of you. Her hands land on either side of your waist, somewhat holding herself off of you. âHey!â She scolds you, her eyebrows furrowed as she looks down at you. Your hands find their way to her waist, holding her steady as she regains her balance above you.
âHey.â You barely whisper at her. You watch her tongue quickly pass over her bottom lip before sheâs starting to lean down to you.
Your hands quickly move around Jessie's body, one caressing up and down her waist, the other on her cheek, pulling her into you slightly. Jessieâs lips have been soft every time youâve kissed but it always took you by surprise just how soft they were. The feeling of her lips and tongue against yours mixed with the feeling of her body weight pressing down on you, the way her thigh was slotted between your legs, was making you buzz. It was giving you flashbacks to last night and her in your lap. A tingling feeling building in your stomach and spreading lower.
You feel Jessie hum against your mouth as you let your tongue trail along her lip. Returning the favor Jessie captures your bottom lip, tugging it gently before releasing it to kiss you again. Your hand on her cheek moved to the back of her head, tangling in her hair and holding her to your lips. She places a few more kisses to your lips before ending it with just a peck before she sits up. Your hand leaves her hair, finding its way to her waist. She presses her upper body up by placing her hands on your chest. Her hands are warm and you like the feeling of them resting on you.
She looks down and gives you a dopey smile. âYou did that on purpose.â
âIâm not sure what youâre talking about.â Giving her a smartass response she rolls her eyes before sitting all the way up and moving off of you. Part of you wanted to just pull her right back onto you, you wanted to feel her body against yours again.
âYou ready to head out?â Jessie looks around at the empty food containers starting to clean up.
âYeah, I mean weâre done eating.â You climb up to begin helping her clean up. You both work to repack the picnic basket mostly in silence, quiet thank yous exchanged when youâd hand each other things. You both stand up and put your shoes back on before rolling up the blanket. Jessie offers to carry something but you shrug her off, this was your date, you were doing the work. She just got to show up and look pretty.
âWould you want to spend the night again?â Jessie asks when you start to head toward the tunnel to leave.
âYeah if youâd want me to, Iâd like that.â You had already been hoping that she would offer when you dropped her off at her door later that night, but the invite was even better.
Already feeling fuzzy at the thought of cuddling up in bed with Jessie again and hopefully getting to wake up next to her again. Her next words and the look in her eyes send a spike of adrenaline through your body. âYeah I do, I want you to and Iâm, um, unlike yesterday well, Iâm not feeling tired tonight.â

Alternate Universe (Daniel Riccardo x Reader)
Summary- You're in college when there's an invasion. You and your friend try to find a route to safety but end up being the chosen one to fix this problem. What if you try to find a solution but end up in a different world and don't know how to come back?
{Reader's POV}
I was a simple college student who was trying to get her Masters Degree and be done with this college once and for all. Honestly, I hated the college I went to and I had to settle for it due to my family wanting me to be closer to them instead of going to another one that was in another city since this one was in the city I grew up. I had conceded and right now I hated my college with a burning passion. The only good thing that came out of joining this college was the friend I made along the way.
I was a poor judge of character is what I realised soon after I joined. I had made friends with people who laughed at my expense and the moment someone or this friend in particular stood up for me; all hell broke lose and now I felt like I was in high-school all over again and surrounded by kids who fought about the pettiest of things. That's how me and Rhea became friends. Quite the unusual situation but hey, if I get a life long friend out of it, so be it.
Now today, was just another day. I had texted Rhea whether she would be coming to class or not and since she said she would, I left for college too. What I didn't expect was that in the middle of the day when we were about to head out for lunch the whole college went into lockdown. It was so sudden, we barely had anytime to react. All the students were ushered into the main building and the Principal was stood there with a microphone.
"Students I have gathered you here today to announce that there has been an outbreak of some sort. People are going crazy and harming their friends and family and any one near them. We've been saved since we were all inside, if you go out you will also be harmed and end up contaminated. I advice you all to stay put until we figure something out."
I immediately called my parents and they said that they had safely gotten home and everyone was at home and safe. I informed them that we were in lockdown in the college and that I was perfectly fine, for now.
There was mass pandemonium and hysteria and everyone was screaming. The principal and the college authority were able to settle everyone down eventually and food was rationed out. Me and Rhea found a place for ourselves in the college halls near the classes. We spent the next few hours just chatting away until there was a large alarm that was sounded. We were informed to evacuate the building since people inside were also affected and told to leave. Since the college was shut we were stuck. We saw people killing people and it was unbelievable. I felt like I was in my own sci-fi movie. Me and Rhea started running while actively trying to avoid the swarms of people that were trying to kill anyone and everyone. We found stuff along the way that would help us like knifes and sticks.
After running around for a while, we found a tightly shut room in the next building. We had never been there and it would usually be locked but not this time. We opened the door to an almost empty room and locked it behind us. A few feet away from the door was a latched door. We opened it and decided to climb out of this windowless room. Maybe this would lead to safety. After some time, we ended up running into an old man in the tunnels. Both of us screamed and almost hit the aged man. He was quite short maybe only 4 feet with a hunched back and a stick for support. His beard was long and covered half his body, wearing a grey clock.
"You are just in time" the old man crocked. "Who are you?" we asked calming ourselves down. "I'm here to help you." he said. "We just want to get out of here. We wanna go home" I said. "You are the chosen ones" he whispered. "We are not, we are dumb college students that wanna go home. This isn't fucking dora the explorer or the purge" Rhea huffed. "Children, you must understand, the world is in danger and you can save it. There are somethings you must collect and make your journey forward. There will be a door and it will help you solve the problem at hand. You will need a peacock feather, ash of precious rock, hair of a fair rabbit and last but not the least a stone from the house of the keeper" he announced. "Ok, sir, I don't know anything about this. This sounds straight out of Final Fantasy. We wanna go home" I cried. "You can once you find all this, the first 3 things are close by for the last you will have to travel far and wide from the door ahead. Collect everything and I hope to see you here in an hour" he said pushing us back to where we came from.
"That man is unbelievable. This is real life not fantasy. Let's leave from the main gate, we'll just jump it." I said. Rhea nodded her head in agreement. At the main door we were swarmed with hungry people after our flesh. We quickly ran back to the animal shelter on campus. That's where we found a fair rabbit sleeping. Rhea saw the rabbit and said, "Maybe it is our destiny to save the world." She slowly found a shaver and shaved the rabbit off and put his hair and put it in a zip lock bag. I was ready to go along to anything as long as I had Rhea by my side so then we went to the storage where we found the peacock feather in a box. We then headed to the chemistry lab which had coal; a precious rock which burnt to an ash. We burnt the coal and collected it's ash in a bag.
We threaded the area carefully to end up back in the tunnel where the old man had disappeared. "This was a hoax, I told you. Let's go" I said skeptical. "No, let's go ahead. If there's a door we'll follow his advice, if not, we'll head out" Rhea reasoned. After much deliberation, I agreed. We walked forward and after a long while, I saw the door the old man had talked about. Rhea looked at me, "Let's get the last item" she said and opened the door. I expected to be out of the college campus, maybe on the road. The tunnel ahead lead me to some sub-burbs. An area I had never seen before. I'd grown up in this city, I've seen it expand and grow with me; this area was new and foreign to me.
We walked around until I saw a big white house. It was gorgeous, the structure was tall with many floors and balconies, the porch was lined with many cars and you could see many people going about the house doing stuff. We looked a mess, from the chase that happened to threading an underground tunnel, we looked unkept and unruly. "Shooo, go away." the man at the entrance of the white house gate shooed us. "Ugh, these people, where do they come from?" he muttered. "They hear of our master's kindness and come seeking it" another mumbled. "Please, can you tell us where are we?" I asked. "Oldest trick in the book" the previous man sneered. He started pushing us away, "You'll dirty the place, you are disgusting looking" he said pinching his nose close. We fell from the hard push until a man with striking and approachable appearance crouched to our level. He had a warm smile that radiated friendliness and confidence, with a cheeky grin. His dark hair was tousled and slightly wavy, giving him a relaxed vibe. He had an athletic built. His brown eyes were so warm an inviting. He was wearing a casual outfits, a graphic tee paired with jeans and a leather jacket.
"Are you okay, darling?" he asked. "I'm fine" I muttered, brushing myself off until I felt a sting in my palm only to find them scrapped. The man who helped me stand saw it, "How many times I have I told you to behave? It was some one who needed help and we cannot be pushing the away like this" he reprimanded the man that pushed me. "I'm so sorry about him. Let's get you fixed up" he suggested. "I don't know who you are" I retreated towards Rhea. The man's eyes softened, "I'm Daniel, Daniel Riccardo. I'm the owner of this house" he said pointing at the white house. "I'm sorry about my staff. Let me make it up to you" he suggested. "Y/N, we don't know where we are. We don't know what we are supposed to do. Let's take his help" Rhea whispered. I sighed "If something happens I'm killing you first" I whispered back, she nodded. "Okay" I told Daniel. "Splendid." he announced leading us in.
He asked his staff to get us clothes and a room where we could freshen up. He had a doctor visit us and look at my scrape. We showered, got changed. I changed into a short white flowy dress. We walked out, "this place is huge and beautiful" I whispered. "I know right, the room he's having us stay at is like a 5 star hotel" Rhea whispered back. We were led to the dinner table which was lined with delicacies of various varieties. It was a spread of any and every kind of meal you could think of. "I didn't know what you would like to eat. So, I had them prepare everything" Daniel said. "That would be wasteful" I exclaimed. "Don't worry, there will be no wastage. I never got your names" he said now standing tall in front of me. "I'm Rhea and this is Y/N" Rhea replied. "What a beautiful name" Daniel mumbled taking my hand in his and kissing it. I pulled it back instantly. "What are you doing?" I asked. "Sorry for startling you, but you are very beautiful and I can not seem to take my eyes off you" he said. Daniel was a very attractive man and I would be lying if I said that it didn't affect me. "Shall we eat?" Rhea coughed. I quickly nodded and took a seat opposite to Daniel. I saw his eyes flicker for a moment but I wasn't sure what they wanted to say, so I dug right in. We'd been so hungry, since a lot of time had passed since our last meal and the weird events of the day.
"Thank you for the meal, Mr Riccardo" I thanked him. "Call me Daniel" he purred. "We'll be leaving soon" I stated. "No, please stay. Stay for as long as you need to" he suggested. "That would be over stepping. Thank you for the meal and clothes and for also doing our laundry. We greatly appreciate it" I said. "Why are you saying no to an attractive man that seems to be interested in you." Rhea whispered. "We're here on a mission. We should finish it and leave" I said. "Please do stay" Daniel insisted. "It's already dark" he said. I agreed to stay the night.
We couldn't fall asleep for whatever reason. So, the two of us started exploring the house. It was big and ornate and had paintings and expensive items littering the place. After walking around for a while, I saw something. It felt familiar but it wasn't, I had never seen this before. A stone in a glass case at the end of a long basement. I was about to touch it when, "What are you doing here?" a voice asked. I turned around to find Daniel. Rhea and I had split up a while back. "I got lost" I stammered. "Why are you out of bed so late?" he tsked and wrapped his hand around my shoulder leading me out. "Couldn't sleep" I mumbled. "I make really good camomile tea" he suggested. We walked in silence, back in the kitchen, his staff was cleaning up when we entered. "Continue your work" Daniel announced and asked me to sit on the chair in the corner. He got the kettle going. I could hear the staff whispering, "He doesn't make himself a cup of tea but he'll make her one." I felt small and awkward there. Daniel soon came back with 2 cups of camomile tea, "Let's enjoy this in the garden" he said leading me out. The garden was just as, if not even more beautiful than the main house. He handed me the cup and we sat there sipping in silence. The moon was big and bright, the sky littered with stars. "Where are you from? I've never seen you around and I know everyone here?" he asked. I started choking on the tea. Daniel started rubbing my back and took the cup from me. After I had settled down, "It's ok, you don't have to tell me now. Whenever you're ready. Just promise me you'll stay" he almost begged. I thought about it for a moment before nodding.
The next day, we sneaked out to find the way we came here but that place was no where to be seen. The small hill from which we had emerged had disappeared. We returned sadly to a very worried Daniel, "Where have you been?" he almost shouted. "We were walking around" I lied. "Don't scare me like that" he said and suddenly wrapped me in a hug. I pushed him away, "Daniel" I said. "Sorry, I was just worried. If you're okay then that's fine" he smiled slowly and went in. We had lunch together but the atmosphere was tense.
We'd been here for almost a month now. Daniel was a gracious host but his staff weren't. We could hear them whisper about how we were leeching off of Daniel. When in reality, if I was not in his vicinity he would freak out. I had yet to understand why that was. My friendship with Daniel had deepened. We would spend our sleepless nights walking the garden or hearing Daniel tell me about his adventures. We spent a lot of time together, even Rhea noticed and asked me about it. I wasn't sure what I felt but I knew it felt different.
"What's that stone in the basement?" I asked one day at our nightly stroll. "I have no clue, my family is supposed to guard it till it's rightful owners come" he replied. "Can I see it?" I asked, curiosity getting the best of me. Daniel agreed and led me back to the basement where the stone was and I held it in my hand. Some how, I felt it; like this was mine. I was the rightful owner. I placed the stone back and headed to sleep.
The next day, I spoke to Rhea. "I think the stone we are looking for is in the house's basement" I said. "How do you know?" Rhea asked. "Well, Daniel said that his family was supposed to guard a stone till it's rightful owner came and when I held it yesterday, it felt like it was ours. The stone from the house of the keeper. I believe Daniel is the keeper, I'll get it tonight and then we can leave" I said. Rhea looked elated.
At nightfall I asked to see the stone again. We were standing in the basement when, "You can keep it for now, I know you will keep it safe" he said. "How do you know that?" I laughed. He shrugged, "Even if you don't, I don't care" he said. "I just want you to be happy. I just want you to stay with me. I love you Y/N. I think I fell for you the moment I saw you and that's why I wanted to have you stay. I don't care where you came from or what you do. I just know that I need you" he said. I gulped hard, I wasn't sure what I was supposed to say. "You don't have to say anything, take your time. I'm always here" Daniel explained and we headed back with the stone in my possession.
The next day we tried to find a way out but we were unsuccessful. The next few days, we kept the search up. The whispering among the staff had gotten louder, they said that I was using their master and I had probably cast a spell on him to make him fall for me. That was unbelievable. I couldn't wait to get out of here.
A few weeks later, we found it. A similar tunnel through which we had come. As I stood at it's entrance, I wasn't sure if I wanted to leave, just yet. "let's go" Rhea said, ready to leave. "No, let's wait for a few more days" I said. "What if it disappears?" Rhea sighed exasperated. "It won't" I hoped. I couldn't leave Daniel, I realised that night. As I stood in front of him, his brown eyes bore into mine. "I think I like you too, Daniel" I said abruptly. He looked elated, he cupped my cheeks and leaned in for a kiss. The kiss was warm and soft and familiar. I melted right into his hands.
After the love confession, Daniel was even more tender and loving if that was possible. Rhea wanted to leave, as soon as possible. "I don't think I can leave, I think I love Daniel" I said. "people are dying and we have to save them. We must" she reasoned. "You should leave. I'll stay here" I said. "Don't you miss your family. Won't you miss me?" she asked. "I do and I will but I love Daniel" I said. "I'll wait for you, let's wait for a few more days and then leave" Rhea stated.
We did wait, I only got closer to Daniel. He got me a ring, he showered me in gifts. It overwhelmed me, in a good way. I had never been loved like this. One night just before our nightly stroll, I escaped the house with Rhea. We went to the tunnel and opened the door. When we reached the other side; the old man stood there "Took you long enough" he stated. He took all the things we had collected and started working on it in a huge open field. As the potion simmered, a huge cloud of smoke rose and enveloped everyone and anyone. And then suddenly everything was okay. No more chaos, no more harm. Everything back to normal. "I know you gave what you love to save us, so thank you child" the old man told me. I cried.
Time hadn't passed since we had left. It was like it had stopped. I was able to reunite with my family and even went on to finish my Masters. But I could never forget Daniel. I left all the gifts he got me except the ring; I couldn't get myself to leave it.
One day, I was returning from work when I saw a man that looked an awful lot like Daniel. He was looking around and as our eyes met, he ran to me and hugged me; "I missed you" he whispered in my neck. "Why did you leave me?" he asked. I had tears running down my face. "I love you Daniel, I'm sorry. I had to" I tried to explain. "What happened?" he asked. "I wasn't from your world, I had come there to get the stone so I could save my people." I explained. "Did you?" he asked. "yes" I nodded. "I thought I would go mad when you didn't come to our nightly stroll or when I didn't find you or your belongings in your room" he explained. "I'm sorry" I apologised. "I love you so much, please be mine" he mumbled now crying himself. "I love you too and I'm forever yours" I said. He pressed a kiss against my lip, the feeling was so perfect, like everything just fell into place where it was supposed to be. I saw that old man from afar smiling as he watched Daniel hold me in his embrace.

⌠Explosion at the Yacht Basin. The Tiffany is being exhibited. Hurry.
âJust two miles south.â Jason responded. âOn my way.â
Speeding up his motorcycle on the busy and wet streets of Gotham, Jason makes a sudden u-turn and heads back in the opposite direction he was once going. Swerving around the cars, trucks and other motorcycles, he hears back honks and curse words be thrown at him, but he doesnât care. The adrenaline has woken his body. He can even feel the air blowing on his face, even behind the scarlet helmet composing his vigilante outfit.
He had been starving for action all night. His body needed it. Bruce had been an asshole. Roy had been an even worse ass, and there were tons of other people that had been pissing him off all day. All this built up anger made his body beg for some sort of release, he needed this extra energy gone, and punching someone on the face seemed like a very plausible solution to his problem.Â
Failing to follow his own mind, telling him to be more careful with his driving after the last incident â that had him not being able to rise from his bed from how much pain his body was in â, he drove so fast his speedometer was hitting itâs other end. Heâd definitely get scolded for it at any minute by Barbara through the coms, and not being in the mood for that, he turned his communication off.
As he got closer to the marina, the smoke and fire became more and more evident through the gaps between all the skyscrapers surrounding the road. Pinkish flames flaring up here and there, climbing up the marinaâs main building, and releasing smoke fuchsia toned. Upon that sight, Jasonâs blood began to boil even hotter than it already was, and if possible, he sped up even more.
Recently, pink flames could only mean one thing in Gotham: Cupid. New psycho in town, got this name from Carmine Falcone himself, for her love to use crossbows and arrows and the hazed state his men were left by the mere sight of her face. Having had the displeasure of meeting her countless times, Jason knew her face pretty well, even if she kept itâs bottom mostly covered. And he was glad she did, as he could not stand the smirk planted on her lips as she managed to piss him off to no end.
She was a good thief, fast and stealthy, to the point one could have her in his hands but blink a little too slow and lose her to the shadows. Smart enough to keep herself out of the records for months, misdirecting her actions to random people, until one she had an accidental run into Robin and Spoiler when leaving Gothamâs Museum of Antiquities with a full bag of stolen artifacts and no sound coming from any of the alarms.Â
Also, she was really annoying, knowing just the right things to say and do to get under Jasonâs skin. And she would linger there for longer than heâd like to admit.
Also, she was really annoying, knowing just the right things to say and do to get under Jasonâs skin. And she would linger there for longer than heâd like to admit.
Scared citizens still ran out of the building when he got there, coughing and barely being able to breath due to the exposure to the toxic smoke. Leaving them in the care of the firefighters that had arrived a bit sooner than he did, he darted inside. Knowing pretty well how his opponent worked at this point in time, he got to the room where he was certain he'd find her.
Displays of very expensive jewelry filled the otherwise empty room. It was dark, but the few lights that came in from the glass ceiling â from the moon, the street lamps and the fire burning outside â hit the jewels and the stones, who in turn reflected them beautifully making an almost perfect show of lights that could make many nightclub owners out there feel pretty jealous of the image they could never replicate. Almost perfect because right where he stood he could see the central piece of the exhibit was missing, the big yellow diamond out of sight.
No alarm sounds, no security system activated.
âLooking for this?â asked a voice from behind him, soft, sultry and mysterious. What wasnât soft, though, was the clicking sound of a pistol unlocking and being settled at the nape of his neck. âDonât worry, I wonât shoot. I like you too much to hurt you, Red. And also, I donât want to ruin your face before I get the chance to see it with my own eyes.âÂ
âGive back the diamond, Cupidâ he demanded through gritted teeth.
âOh, they have so many here, they wonât notice I only took one.â
With a swift movement, Jason threw his arm back with force and locked Cupidâs arm under his own, making her drop the gun somewhere far he could only see through the side of his eyes. Now, facing the villain, he kept her arm tightly wrapped around his, somewhat careful to not hurt it while keeping control of the situation.
âI thought guns werenât your thing.â he said, tightening his hold and making her groan.
âIâm keen on exploring new kinksâ she replied. âCâmon, Red! We donât need this. Weâre friends, I can send you a gift card once I sell this to the black marketâ and with an even quicker movement, Cupid released her arm from Red Hoodâs grip and spun around, kicking at his face. Jason dodged it and threw a punch at her that she also skipped, though only for mere inches.
Hitting the back of his knee with another kick, the villain managed to make the hooded hero fall to his knees for a brief moment, giving her an opportunity to run out of the room. Jason darted after her straight away, following her through the corridors and up the stairs, then reaching the glass ceiling of the exhibit. She ran with ease on top of the steel bars holding the glass up, opening a gap between the two of them as Jason, much larger and heavier, had more difficulty in doing the same.
Soon, they exchanged the glass ceiling for a concrete roof when they got on top of the neighboring room. Chasing her dark suited body, he managed to shorten their distance a little when she jumped a small gap and fell onto another building, him not taking long and getting there as well. It was the main structure on fire, the heat from below reaching his forearms, the only part of his body left exposed, unprotected by his jacket.
âInto fire play, Cupid?â
âHa!â she laughed at his joke, throwing her head back mid run. âWorks as a great distraction.â she shrugged.
She was certainly faster than him, reaching the end of that building much sooner, lowering down and grabbing a bag that must have been left there beforehand. Out of it, she took her pistol sized crossbow and turned to him. Not wanting to get shot, Jason zigzagged his way to her, trying to run as fast as he could.Â
After the sound of the weapon activating, an arrow flew right by his shoulder, cutting a string on his leather jacket. Strike one, thought the vigilante. Nobody does that to his jacket.Â
This time aiming the gun at the higher building, she shot it and the arrow hooked on the stair house wall. Finally reaching the end of his run and almost at armâs range with the thief, he jumped in her direction, trying to catch her mid flight, but only just touching the sole of her boots. She was up in the air, flying to the other building, and landed on it with gracious ease, as a pretty bird landed on someoneâs finger.
âPray to catch me, Redâ she taunted him once she settled on the other side of the tall gap.
Groaning in frustration, he threw off his jacket, incredibly hot to the touch from being near the fire, and feeling a sting of pain hit his shoulder as he noticed a bleeding wound adrenaline didnât allow him to see earlier in the same spot his sleeve had been laying on.
âOh, Red.â she screamed at him, attracting his attention. âI swear you couldnât turn me on more than you already did, but wow!â sliding her back down the wall of the stair house, she sat on the floor, her legs slightly spread in his direction.
âShut up!â he screamed back, all his build up frustration sounding through it.
âOooh come make meâŚâ she moaned, throwing her head back, exposing her glistening neck. Anger blew through his nose, and standing on the edge of the roof, Jason took his grappling gun from his utility belt and aimed it at top of where her arrow still stood. Being soared into the air, he was mere inches from reaching the parapet when he felt his body lose all weight and descend to the floor. His heart fell just as hard, as he noticed the cut wire that once held him up slide right past his face.
However, when he thought the floor was his only destination at that point, strong arms held onto his own, keeping him from falling.Â
âThought I was gonna let you die in front of me?â questioned that same sultry voice.
âYou fucking cut the wire! What did you want me to think?â he replied, grinding his teeth.
âI removed your hook from the wallâ she corrected, matter of factly. âAnd I did it so we could have a little fun. It was getting boring up here. All aloneâ
The seductive way she finished her sentence made Jasonâs voice put up and look directly at her face. Her lowered eyebrows and the pout she had on her bottom lip â plumb, red and glossy ones â made his stomach turn. Strike two, I hate pouty lips.
Using his free arm to grab onto the railing, he forced his body up with her assistance. He put one of his legs over the parapet and managed to finally set his feet on the ground. He shouldnât have been affected by what happened. He was used to heights, he knew he could shoot his grappling gun again, he knew nothing would happen. Yet, it did affect me.Â
His heart was beating fast, his breath caught in his throat. Laying his hand on his tights, he tried to steady his it, to relax his shoulders, and ease his body back to normal. For a brief moment, he imagined himself falling into the fire, the image of being consumed by it scaring him way too much.
âHere, big boy. Take a seatâ Cupid forced him on his butt and made him rest his head on the railing. âJesus, youâre not into rope play? Noted.â
Clicking her tongue, she lowered herself to his level and placed one hand on his knee.
âReally⌠I want to kill you.â he shook his head, removing his hands from under hers.
âThought your killing days were over, Red.â she stated, hands going to her waist. âSadly, itâs not gonna be tonight you get to realize your dream.âÂ
Standing up and wasting no time, Cupid grabbed her crossbow, unloaded it and hit it against the back of his ear â or where she assumed it rested inside the helmet. The clicking of metal into metal echoed in his ears, making him lose his senses for a bit.Â
It seemed like it wouldnât stop, the sound reverberating under the helmet. He tried to stand up, but his balance was poor, nearly making him fall once again. Holding his head, he tried to stop the sound, but it was useless. Taking off the helmet was a no no, even if the clear best solution to his pain.
Deciding that loosening it might make the situation better, he pressed the button that would free his skull, but he did not remove the helmet from itâs place. Not long after, the agonizing noise came to a halt, his sight stopped spinning, and he finally could stand up just fine.
But Cupid was gone. Lost to the night, and not a single sign she was even up there with him at some point could be spotted around.
If he hadnât accumulated frustration enough all night until this point, he was sure that now he had reached maximum storage. Punching the wall, he let go of some of it, but certainly not enough.
Three nights ago, Jason let Cupid escape. Three nights ago, Jason got scolded by Bruce for letting the Tiffany diamond go missing. Three nights ago, he could only think of one thing, and that thing has stayed in his mind ever since.
Tonight though, he would finally put an end to his mental torture.
The heavy sound of rain soon faded as he entered the batcaveâs tunnel system, being then exchanged by the echoing sound of his engine against the hollow corridors. The darkness and the cold of that place once made him extremely uncomfortable, but after so long visiting those places, he felt embraced by it, and the solitude, the feeling of leaving the whole world behind, turning it off of his head, made him feel at home.
Underground, he found the metro trails of Gothamâs subway system. This first one he spotted was from an old abandoned line, a new one had been set to finish its construction by the late 2000s, but that clearly did not reach that goal, now resting here, forgotten.Â
Driving through the empty tunnels, following the directions his computer board had given him, and reaching the marked spot on his screen, he made his motorcycle come to a stop, turning it off, getting down from it and making the rest of his way on foot.
He didnât really know what he was looking for, but he was warned by Oracle of an explosion caught by the radar. The smell of smoke was present during his ride, but there was no sight of fire. Leaving his headlights on, it helped him find his footing around the area, where he could barely see the tubes and wires drawing parallel lines on the concrete walls, nor the weird engravings he had no idea who â and how â had put them there. Standing still, he quieted his breathing and took some time to listen.Â
The howling of the wind, the timed buzzing of electricity running through the cables and the distant sound of trains following their course filled Jasonâs ear, but something else caught his attention. It was the slight sound of rocks moving to his left that made him turn around and face exactly who he wanted to see.
At the blink of an eye, he had her under his gunâs aim.
âCertainly, this terrain doesnât favor me at all, does it Red?â she taunted, hands held up in the air like a culprit caught by the police. This time, she had her regular all black attire on, but had no mask and wore a hooded jacket, much like his own. âWhat do you think? Does it suit me?â
âWhereâs the fucking diamond?â
âSold to the black market. Is this all you can talk about?â
She was quick. She had to be, a diamond as expensive as the Tiffany wouldnât last long in her hands if word got around she still had it for this long. He knew she had to have a buyer even before stealing it. Yet, Jason innocently thought he could have gotten to her before she managed to trade it.
âDidnât know you were working for CobblepotâŚâ he questioned. He had been sent here because they knew Penguin was out and about, planning something for some time, but that they werenât sure on what it was. Finding her here meant she was somewhat involved in his business, and he didnât know why and how that was made possible.
âWorking with Cobblepotâ she cut him off, rolling her eyes in annoyance. âAnd not by choice.â
âFor what then? Doesnât seem to me like heâs the best match for your skill set.â he commented, interested in knowing why this pairing was ever formed. Penguin was a crime boss who would steal everything and anything that could get him richer, and he had worked with some of the best along the years, although not the best partner they had ever had. Yet working alongside a Cupid seemed especially strange this time, as she had only been on their records for a couple months, and Penguin isnât much keen on working alongside new flesh. And also, from the little bit he knew about her, she preferred working alone.
âFor I have no other choice.â she answered, and he could have sworn her voice had a little crack somewhere between those words. âI guess I shouldâve picked a buyer more carefully. Next time I try to sell some stolen goods Iâll have that in mind.â she threw her shoulders back and continued. âBeginners curse. Iâll learn things through time and find the right people who I can trust. I did find you after all, right Daddy?â
Say what?! she caught him off guard. What did she just fucking call me?
âIâm not your fucking DaâŚâ lowering his gun, grunting, he stoped himself from saying the last word.
âOh? Why canât you say it?â she mused, excited by his excitation from saying the word. âSay it!â
âStop.â
âSay it, Red.â she challenged.
âNo!â he screamed back, while she continued to taunt him. At a distance, his ears heard the succinct sound of a train coming in their direction and he started to notice the peebles jumping up on the ground. He also noticed Cupid standing right at the middle of the railing tracks. âCupid, get out of there.â
He tried to plead, but she still happily sang to him to repeat the D word.Â
âThe train is coming! Do you want to dieâ he got closer, but nothing. She didnât even flinch at the words train and coming being thrown at her.
âY/n, move!â he screamed.
âOh, you know my name?â her eyes widened as she seemed to have grown more excited at the thought he knew her identity. âOnly fair you give me yours now.âÂ
Crossing her arms on her chest like a little child would do to its parents, she continued to ignore Red Hoodâs pleas as the train announced itself to them by shining itâs lights in their direction.
âCâmonâ he grunted, but she still didnât move.
âTell me your nameâ she sang.Â
âDamn it, itâs Jason. Now fucking move.â He was desperate at this point, as she made no indications she was moving out of the way. Fearful, he started walking in her direction.
âNow, say dad-dyâŚâ
âFUCK!â he screamed and rushed his steps. Getting to her, he jumped into the tracks and held her by the arms, dragging her alongside him out of the railway and onto the opposite wall, fast enough to have the train pass behind them and over the spot she was standing on a second later..
âWhy didnât you fucking get out?â he asked, completely exasperated, pushing her away from his hold.
âYou wouldnât let me die would you?â she pouted at him once more, aggravating his nerves and making him moan in frustration. Why is she so fucking difficult?
âI would kill you if I could.â he stated, getting closer to her face.
âWhat's holding you back? Papa bats wouldnât let you?âÂ
Clenching his wrists, trying his best to not throw a punch at her yet and doing his best to hold his anger, he answers through gritted teeth. âIâm past thatâ
âA mature manâ
âJesus fucking Christ, youâre annoyingâ
âItâs a talent Iâve curated through the years.â she stated, proud of herself for being an irritating little shit.
âWhat are you doing down here anyway?â he questioned, remembering his job and the orders he had received earlier.
âAhâŚâ she looked up, as if trying to remember herself. âDistracting you.â
âHuh?â
âPenguin is planning something tonight and told me to take you out of his way.â He didnât notice she was this close, but her hands were not at his collar. She fixed something in his chest he failed to see a problem with, her hands sliding up and down his chest.Â
Shit, Jason thought. He had to get back.Â
Grabbing her wrist, he removed her hands from his jacket and threw them far away from him. Turning around, he was dead set into returning to the surface. âOracle, this was a distraction. Penguin isâŚâ
â...Robbing the entire exhibit at the Yacht Club. Yeah, we figured that out. Where were you? Everyone is heading there now.â
âIâm on my way too.â he cut the conversation short, running to his motorcycle.
âHey, Jay?â he rolled his eyes at the sound of her voice, still walking to his vehicle and getting on top of it. âCould you give me a ride?â
âYou gotta be kidding meâ he whispered to himself. Looking back at her, arms on her side and big eyes innocencly staring at him, he really wondered if she was being serious or not. What was stopping him from giving her a ride and locking her up afterwards? In fact, that seemed like a very good idea to him. Having her right there, sitting behind him and holding his body, he could be sure she wouldnât go anywhereâŚ
âMy my, youâre actually considering it?â she smirked, breaking him out of his thoughts. âYou should go, Red. The sooner you trap Penguin, the sooner Iâll be free.â
And turning her back to him, she disappeared into the darkness once again. This time, he made his way into the shadows right after.
By the time they all had got to the exhibit, the jewels were already gone.Â
Penguinâs meticulously crafted plan was a success. He had each and every member of the family busy with different affairs, seemingly unrelated, and within large enough distances to the Yacht Basin, that if anyone was seen moving in its direction, they would have enough time to clear the area before they got there. And everything went as planned.Â
They all wondered, how could they have been tricked like that? So under their noses, so obvious looking on the outside. Yet, they were played like little children.
âWe are trying to keep this out of the news until we understand how it all happened. The National Museum wonât be happy with this.â
âWeâre working on getting as much information as possible, Commissioner. Penguin canât have gone too far, this fast.â Batman stated. âThese jewels are still in Gotham, and weâll find them.â
âGood. Otherwise the mayor is gonna want both our necks hanging by morning.â Commissioner Gordon replied, pushing his glasses up his nose bridge and fishing for a cigar he knew he had hid somewhere inside his coatâs pocket.
Hearing their conversion from a few feet away, Jason and Dick watched as the two of them said their goodbyes, and Bruce, in his mighty black cape and cowl, made his way towards the two standing in the corner.
âAre you sure the jewels are still in the city?â Dick questioned, a subtle hint of doubt hidden in his voice, but not daring yet to completely cut this theory out of the question.
âNo planes or ships were spotted on the radars. Fleeing the city with millions in gold and jewelry is not going to be easy after the police closed all road exits.â looking back at the Commissioner for a moment, he continued. âBarbara responded that all cameras at the Yacht club were conveniently turned off earlier. But she got a hold of the street vigilance records and caught a truck with suspicious actions coming and going down the street that leads here.â
Walking between Dick and Jason, he ignored their questioning looks and continued.
âIâm taking the batmobile back to the cave. Gather more information on the truckâs route and possible destinations. I need you two on the streets, be my eyes and ears. If anything happens, you need to call me. Immediatelyâ he demanded, blending with the shadows and making his way out of this place, leaving the two brothers all alone.
âI canât believe Harley was with Penguin on this one.â he heard Dick start. âI was so sure she was trying to break the Joker out of Arkham again. I only realized something was wrong when she was taking too long to take some action .â
His brotherâs little adventure with Harley Quinn was at the bottom of the list of things he was interested in at the moment. While he continued to ramble about it, his mind was constantly drawn back to the tunnels and to her.
The way she could get under his skin so easily was something he couldnât figure out how and why happened. There was only one other person who could do it as easily, but the Joker had killed him in the past, making the reason for his hatred for the Clown Prince of Gotham completely reasonable. On the other hand, he had only known Cupid for some time, met her less than his finger could count, and she really had not done anything more than antagonize him and actually save his life once.
And also, she was kinda hot. It irked him tremendously to even have thoughts about this, but he had to be honest with himself and admit â to him only, and nobody else â that he did have a small, very slight, very little, thing for Y/n. But that was all physical, he only thought she was insanely attractive. She could work her body and her words, clearly, and he was just stupidly weak to have fallen for charm.
âWhat did he do to keep you away?â Dick asked, having Jasonâs attention back to him.
Jason considered if he really should tell his brother or not of what kept him away for so long. He had joked before about how much he seemed to find her out during patrol, and how she often got the best of him, leaving him empty handed. When they found out her real identity, Dick caught a glimpse at how Jason stared at her pictures a lot longer than he usually would.Â
Coming to a conclusion, he answered without shame. âCupid.â
Just by hearing her name, Dickâs smile spread on his face, although heâd keep trying to hold it back, his mind getting funny ideas of what the two of them were doing down in the underground.
âIt seems like youâve been finding each other quite a lot recently,â he stated.
âUh-huhâ Jason hummed, agreeing with him but limiting himself to a short and final answer, knowing pretty well where this conversation would go if he stood around for too long. Ignoring anything else Dick had to tell him, he mounted his bike and drove away to work on finding the jewelry truck.
Hours later, when the sun was getting close to coming out of hiding, Jason stood under a railroad bridge, quietly watching the rain fall harshly down the sky and form large puddles on the asphalt. He had been riding his motorcycle all night, looking for that truck or any other indication of Penguinâs work. He drove and drove, but got nothing.
Now, standing there, he had difficulty keeping his eyes open. He awaited something. Something to happen to bring energy back into his night. Something to keep him busy and away from his own thoughts that had been torturing him all that time.
The rain hitting the metal structure over his head was soothing, and did not help his attempts to not fall asleep. Sometimes, a vehicle would pass by his spot and jolt him awake, or water accumulated somewhere would fall down all at once, making a huge noise out of nowhere. Other times, heâd hear mice or the sounds of footsteps coming up top, but would see nobody, animal or human, out there. Worst of all was when trains would pass by the bridge and make everything in a two mile radius to shake.
Tired mind meant thinking of things he wouldnât want to think about when his mind was properly awake. He closed his eyes and could hear the sultry sound of her voice, or smell the spicy scent of her perfume. He needed to see her again. He needed to let off some steam, all that stored frustration. He needed to see her and make sure she had forgotten about his name. Remembering he did that, he threw his head back and released a heavy sight. It was stupid to have said it, and he didnât know why he kept doing stupid shit whenever she was around.Â
Feeling safe in the loneliness, he took off his helmet and got some much needed fresh air. He leaned forward and laid his head down on his motorcycleâs panel, ready for a nap. Bruce wouldnât notice. Penguin must have already left the city somehow and this whole night of waiting was for absolutely nothing.
Losing to tiredness, he began to dream of meeting Y/n and talking to her again. But the dream wasnât long, because when he was getting to the good part, something made him jump out of his sleep.
âIs the night too much for the incredible Red Hood?â asked a voice he did not recognize and who he could not see, hiding from the lights, but who he felt came from right behind him. The voice was followed by the sound of two, or was it three, sets of footsteps approaching him.
âOr did that arrowed cunt give you the kiss of death too?â joked another voice, clearly familiar with the first one. Jason still could not see them yet, but knew very well where they stood.
âAre you guys scared to come out of the dark?â he taunted them. âItâs easy to tell me shit when I canât see who Iâm supposed to be fighting with.â
âIsnât this guy is fucking cocky, Dan?â the second voice commented.
âHow many of your friends have left with all working limbs after finding me during a night at their job?â Jason inquired, smirking at the men in the darkness, proud of his high rate of beat down assholes.
âOne as many punches Iâll be gifting your face tonight.â one of them replied.
âThen come and get me.â he challenged, arms open in a call for battle.Â
Upon his call, two tall men left their place in the shadows and ran in his direction. One of them was skinny, and held what Jason identified as a knife in his hands. The other, smaller and a bit heavier, had something shining between the base of his fingers. Standing up from his bike, he cracked his neck, his arms and his fingers, waiting for the action to finally reach him and he slowly paced towards the two guys. Action was on again, baby.
The fact that he was outnumbered did not bother Jason in the slightest, as he defended himself with ease. The other two, although pretty confident when they ran towards him thinking they could give him some bruises, soon found out that defeating the Red Hood was no easy task. Their confidence was rapidly gone.Â
He managed to divide them. Turning to fight the first one, he grabbed him by his collar, threw him at a metal pillar, causing an echoing sound to reverberate around them, and the man to fall hard on the ground, grunting on the floor and touching his own his to check if they were okay. Now, changing his attention to the other man, he couldnât find him at first glance, but saw this one trying to sneak around his back and hit him on the head with a large pipe he had found somewhere. Being a smarter fighter, Jason followed him by the noise he was making by breathing, walking and simply existing in around him. Jason knew exactly where he was and avoided the hit. Then, he grabbed the manâs hand and spun his arm around till it made a loud cracking sound and the guy made an even louder and painful scream.
âHow many punches did you say youâd give me again?â Jason shrugged. Not a single drop of sweat in his body.
The moaning and groaning of the two guys on the floor were like a symphony to his ears, the perfect credit song for one of his favorite action sequences. Wanting to leave, he looked for his helmet as he didnât see it where he had left it above his bike. Not on the floor either, and also not rolling to the street.
âTook ill on Thursday, Grew worse on Friday, Died on Saturday, Buried on Sundayâ
The words came out of a third voice, perhaps the third pair of steps he had heard along the menâs. But different from the two idiots on the floor, this one definitely activated his fight or flight instincts.
âSolomon Grundy, born on a monday.â The big shadow of the creature turned into flesh and bone, red helmet in hands. Breaking the item as if he was breaking glass, the angry monster threw pieces on the floor, stepped on them with his bare feet and with heavy steps made his way to the Red Hood. âSolomon Grundy, born on a mondayâ
âOh shit!â Jason exclaimed as the zombie-like walked closer. âLong time no see, buddy.â
As if disgusted by the nickname, Grundy darted towards Jason, who then ran towards the street in hopes to get more space to fight the big guy. He also hoped the wet asphalt could somehow aid him in bringing down the creature. He deviated several punches, while his own hit the spot a couple of times, but apparently didnât cause his enemy much pain. Kicking the back of his knees, he made Grundy lose some balance and fall to his knees, giving Jason enough time to think of a plan.
Looking back at his bike, still where he was sitting under the bridge, he decided that the best plan was making a run for it and trying to escape. He didnât know what and why had Grundy so mad and out of the sewers tonight, as he rarely left his safe spot, but he also didnât want to stay any longer to figure that out.
âYou work for Penguin too, Grudy?â he jokingly asked, making a run to his motorcycle. âThought of you as better than that.â
âSolomon Grundy⌠works for nobodyâ he answered, punching the ground with both of his hands right at the place where Jason had just been standing. Almost out of the street, a car suddenly passed by â for what reason? â and blocked his way, and then another car showed up. Why are all those people driving towards Solomon Grundy? Have they all gone mad?
When he was too worried about the cars and the stupid people driving them, Jason didnât notice when Grundy approached him and hit him right in his jaw, making him fly across the street. There on the floor, his head spun and everything went blurry as he tried but could not pull himself up from the ground. Damn it, he needed to get out of there.
Getting to his feet, lord knows how, and stumbling to make his way to where he wanted, he heard the swift swish of projectiles flying by his ears, who were then followed by Grundyâs screams and complaints. Two. Three. Four more things hit him, but somewhat running with a spinning head had Jasonâs vision go everywhere but nowhere at the same time.Â
As if that wasnât enough, suddenly the honking of a car and a pair of headlights were in his face, as he felt the floor shaking from the heavy steps that were also heading his way. Trying to rush, he nearly fell onto the floor yet again, but a loud crash sounded through the whole street and something knocked him down.
His vision was getting darker, and all voices sounded distant, but this one he still could hear clearly.
âStay with me, Jason. Donât close your eyesâtold him the voice, this time it was soft and sultry. He felt his entire body ache, and his eyes couldnât stay open even if she begged him. âHey, Jay.â she called him again, tapping his cheeks with care to try to keep him awake. âStay with me, please. Stay awake.â Â
But it was too late. Soon, everything was black.
.
His head banged with pain. Really, it hurt like crazy. It was not the best sensation to wake up to. His vision still hadnât settled too, still spinning as he last remembered them. He tried to inspect the room he was in, but he couldnât identify where he was. He woke up god knows where, but the real question in his mind was in how he got there.
Remembering everything that happened before he blacked out, Jason tried to stand up from the bed he was laid on, noticing his missing shirt and the curatives glued to his chest. He sat at the tip of the cushion, placing his bare feet on the cold floor.
The small room he was in had only the bed he was on and a small table by its side, but it was randomly adorned with small plants, colored glass decorations and a pile of old books at one corner. This didnât look like neither his or his brotherâs home, and it was too small to be anywhere inside the manor. This also did not look like a cell, or a hostage room. It felt too cozy for that.
Gosh, he thought, placing his head on his hands and massaging his temples, Iâm knackered.
Forcing his body to comply with his mind, he stood up on his feet, but it immediately felt weak and fell backwards onto the bed.
âEasy, Redâ someone rushed beside him, holding his sides to check if he was okay. âYouâre still dizzy from all the pain medication I gave. I must admit, Iâm not the best doctor you could find.â
âHmm?â he grunted, confused when he recognized the voice.
âBaby, you were knocked out and saved by Grundy last night. If he didnât jump after you, youâd have been smashed by that car, like a smashed potato!Jason.â Y/n explained as her face was becoming clear in his eyes. âAnd I have to be honest here, after finally seeing your face after this long, I can tell you itâd have been a real waste if all of that had happened.â
When this fell to his ears, his hands shot up to his face, noticing his domino mask gone.Â
âWhere am I?â he asked, still groggy.
âAt my place.âÂ
âYou had the courage to take me to your home?â he questioned, incredulous. Putting her index finger on her lips, she requested.Â
âDonât tell anybody.â
âWh-whatâŚâ
âRelax. Just let me check your bruises now that youâre up.â she cut him, grabbing a pastel yellow bag from the table next to the bed, pushing his arms away and settling herself on his lap.
Not believing what was happening, Jason could only stare at her wide eyed as she removed his hair away from his forehead, and cleaned the cuts on his face with a cotton ball.Â
She was uncomfortably close. Dangerously close to him, and he didnât know how to react. Her face was mere inches from his, and, as she continued to clean his bruises, he could feel her hot breath hitting his face. He had to blink once, or twice, or thrice, to try to recollect himself and to try and push her away from his lap, but she hooked her lean legs tightly around his waist, silently telling him she wasnât going anywhere.
âDonât touch me.â he complained, trying to keep his face away from her touch by awkwardly throwing it back.
âHow am I supposed to bandage you up if I canât touch you?â she rolled her eyes, but he could see a smile gracing her face. Her arms on her hips, she finally had a chance to get a proper look at what she was wearing. She had on a gray tank top and jean shorts that barely covered her legs and left her beautiful tights on display for him to see⌠and touch, as he placed his hand on top of them âinvoluntarilyâ.
âThen get off meâ he replied through his gritted teeth.
Pissed off, she straightened her back and looked right into his eyes. Jason suddenly felt small as she proceeded to challenge him.Â
âMake me.âÂ
And when she didnât get a response from him, nor a shake of his head or a noise from his throat, she smirked back at him, going back to tending to his wounds.
Jason stood there, quietly and still, watching as she cared for his wounds with utmost concentration. When she was done cleaning his face and chest, after carefully removing the curatives that had been protecting his scratches there, she fished for some medicine to apply on him. She had put everything on the bed, all at an arm's distance so she wouldnât need to leave his lap to grab anything until she was done.
He winced when she applied an antibiotic cream on his cuts and he felt the itching starting, but she scolded him to get himself together and let her finish with the rest. When he still showed agony on his face, she blew at the spots and softened his pain.
There, on top of him, she was constantly moving. He could feel her crotch sliding against his own, making his mind go places where it shouldnât be going right now. His hands started sweating, and he tried to clean them on his pants, before placing them again on her legs.Â
âA-hemâ he fake coughted, trying to get her attention. She simply shushed him.
Moving on top of him once again, slightly rising herself from his lap and standing with her knees on the bed, her boobs were then leveled with his eyes. He tried to look away, out of respect, after all he was still raised to be a gentleman, but he lost battle to his worst side, it getting control of him as he threw some glances at her cleavage.Â
Still on her knees, she lost a bit of balance, almost falling on her back if Jasonâs strong hands werenât at her back ready to steady her back into his lap. A soft thanks left her lips, something that shouldnât have made his mind go mad, but lord help him, he was going insane.
He was entranced by her. By her beauty, by her kind touch. By her hot breath and the soft smell of coconut shampoo emanating from her hair. He watched her bite her bottom lip in concentration, sometimes switching habits and sucking her cheeks in as she focused on the task at hand.Â
âDone.â she announced, smiling at him briefly before taking the medicine bag and organizing the bottles, sprays, tubes and bandages inside.
He couldnât take his eyes off her. He couldnât look away. And he also couldnât let her go too far, growing needy of her touch and presence. Growing addicted to finally having her this close. His hands pressed tighter around her waist and tights, impeding her from moving any further.
âYou can let me go now, Jason.â And the way she pronounced his name. Oh, the way she pronounced his name. It sounded as if an angel sang him the prettiest of lullabies, or as if the devil seductively listed him all of the most delicious things the world had to give. Her plump lips moved and he got hypnotized.
âI want to kiss you.â he stated, without really thinking of what he was doing.
âYouâre drunk on the meds.â she joked.
âNoâ he shook his head, sitting up straight and getting dangerously close to her face. His lips lingering over hers. They stared at each other's eyes like they were both hypnotized by each other. Nah, they were hypnotized. Their eyes were low but never leaving the other, their breaths mixing together.
Placing a hand on her neck, thumb caressing patterns on her skin, Jason tangled his fingers on her hair and pushed her down onto him. Their mouths collided with each other and moved in perfect synchrony, in the wettest of kisses. Her arms wrapped around his neck, but didnât stay there for long, as she felt the need to have them all over his muscular chest.
His tongue soon begged for entrance, and she allowed him in without any reluctance.Â
His hands also roamed her body, desperate to touch her every inch. He drew lines up and down her back, lifting her top all the way to where it reached her bra. He played with its hook as their mouths still danced in the most intense kiss, and unlocked it before she even noticed. He was desperate to take her shirt off, but he didnât break the kiss. However, hard things had to be done to achieve greatness.Â
Finally breaking the kiss, he took her shirt off over her head and tried to do the same with her unhooked bra, but her arms locked on her side stopped him from doing it. Before he had a chance to complain, she closed the gap between their lips again, restarting the fire they had briefly put off.
They didnât let go of each other. There was no need for space, or air. They were consumed by the other taste, the smell, the touch. Starved, actually. Jason was starved. He didnât know he craved her this bad until he had her in his arms, until her hands roamed all over his body and her hips gridded against his cock with fast movements. When she broke the kiss for air once more, he pouted his lips and she let out a laugh.
âEasy, boy.â she mocked, but soon threw herself on top of him again, laying him down on the bed, scratching his nude chest with her nails, the pain making his pants feel even tighter. As her hands got lower, they soon got to his waist line, where the tightness was making go crazy, agony climbing up his spine anxiously waiting for his release. She played around with the button of his jeans, teasing his patience, caressing his dick over all that fabric. It felt like torture, just as she liked. She like to torture him so bad, and he always knew it. Her hands were full, his side filling them completely, and they kept working their way up and down, often combining the movements with the tightening of her grasp around it and driving him so close to release without even having his member freed.Â
He was so close, gosh, so close. But then she stopped, his eyes instantly opening as he looked after hers, begging her for an explanation.Â
âYou should rest.â she answered his grunts in complaint, getting off his lap and standing up between his opened legs. He quickly sat up from the bed too, grabbing at the base of her ass, desperately not wanting her to leave him. âI thought you wanted to kill meâ she rested her forehead on his, joking at his change of behavior within just a few hours.
âIâm way past my killing daysâ he said, still out of breath.
She looked him in the eyes once more, staring deep into them. They didnât hold longing anymore, there was no desire. Instead, her look was soft, warming. He felt safe under it, all his fire suddenly, but not completely, gone. Hooking her bra, she then reached for her shirt he had thrown right behind his back when they were still attached by their mouths. Having to lower herself a little bit to grab it, she provocatively placed her chest right down his nose. Still pumped with desire, Jason kissed the exposed part of her breast, feeling their warmth envelop his wet lips.
âWhen the effects of the meds are goneâ she started, holding his head up by his chin, making him look to her eyes once more. âWe can decide if we want to keep playing or not.â
Taking his hands away from her legs, she moved away from him without breaking eye contact. She grabbed a bottle out of the table, taking out of it a small pill. Putting it between her teeth, she walked to Jason, him immediately holding the base of her ass again, and lowered her head so their lips touched one more time. She allowed the pill to drop into his mouth, and as she broke the kiss, he swallowed it alongside all this frustration he could not seem to let off.Â
Walking out, she left him alone.Â
He dropped on the bed. Head going back to just moments ago, when she was on top of him and he felt⌠deep. He felt⌠he felt his consciousness leave his body. He felt his lids falling, too heavy for him to keep open. He felt it all change, from color to black, once again.
âSo, youâre alive?â Dick questioned as Jason stood up for his sofa, protecting his eyes from the sunlight.
Jason was confused. So, was that all a dream?

Could we see the aftermath of James finding Tanner from that last story? What happens when he meets Oliver?
A loooot of emotions is what happens
Enjoy ^^
Word count: 3,560
First part
-----
âOliver? Can you hear me? Over.â
Oliver heard his friend's urgent voice coming through the walkie talkie he had placed off in the corner of the living room. James had come up with the idea a few weeks ago to make communicating easier because a phone was pretty inaccessible for Oliver to use whilst living in the woods. With the walkie talkie the batteries would only need replacing every year, and they were close enough that the signal was just fine.
He picked up his cup of tea as he walked over to the device, pressing on a button.
âI can. Is something wrong? Over.â He responded, releasing the button and blowing onto the hot tea to help it cool faster before braving himself to take a small sip. He hummed contentedly at the taste. The leaves he was using now were some of his best yet, and he planned to keep some to oxidise more so he could have a stronger batch in the future.
âI found a kid. A kid likeâ a borrower. HeâŚyou should get here quickly. He's asleep now, or passed out, or somethingâ but he was scared of me. Come over. Over.â James seemed to stumble over his words, unsure of how to explain the situation briefly enough that Oliver would get here faster, but also with enough information for him to understand the urgency.
Oliver bristled at his words, standing up straighter and pressing the button again to respond.
âI'll be there in 5 minutes. Over.â
He released the button and immediately got moving, placing his tea cup back down on the wooden coffee table, grabbing his jacket and putting his boots on quickly before leaving the door and whistling for Gail.
The buzzard immediately swooped down and Oliver kept his arm raised, feeling the air hit him as he was suddenly being lifted by Gailâs talons. He swung himself up onto the saddle he had made and gave her an affectionate scratch at her head before whistling sharply, telling her where she needed to go.
James had opened his kitchen window so that Oliver would be able to enter easily rather than having to traverse through the tunnels in the walls. Gail landed on the windowsill and Oliver hopped off and quickly hopped down the short distance to the kitchen countertop.
James was already waiting there, but all of his attention was in his hands. Oliver could feel the nervous bobbing of his leg as he sat and waited, and he wasted no time running over.
âJames? I'm here. Bring your hands closer so I can see his condition, and tell me what happened.â He commanded softly, worried about how James had come across the child and why he decided it was best to bring them to his home. He didn't think James was thoughtless enough to kidnap someone, so there must be a reason.
James nodded and lowered his cupped hands towards the kitchen counter, biting his lip anxiously as he looked between Oliver and the kid.
âI was taking Henry for a walk, but then Henry started barking and fussing about something down an alleyway. I thought I heard crying or something so I went to check it outâ and this kid was there. He said his parents are dead, and he was just hanging out near a bin, and I didn't want to leave him there to freeze or get attacked by somethingâ Poor kid feels like iceâŚâ He explained.
Oliver climbed up onto Jameâs palms, approaching the boy to assess his condition only to freeze. Is it..? Oh god.
âTanner?â
Although the boy looked slightly different, his build and size was almost the same as when he and Sammy had gone missingâŚwhich was concerning, since it had been three years and the boy had hardly grown. His dark curly hair was longer and matted, in desperate need of washing and brushing but clearly he had had no access to such thing for a very long time. He was dressed in a long t-shirt that came down to his knees, which seemed like it should have been white but it was so dirty that it was almost brown.
On what parts of his body were visible, there were scars which Oliver knew weren't there before. And although most borrowers were thinner from a lack of nutrition, Tanner did not have the build of a borrower at all; he looked as if he wouldn't even be able to carry his own weight, let alone climb something. If James hadn't found himâŚOliver didn't think he would have lasted much longer.
âTanner? YourâŚyour cousin?â James breathed, holding very still, as if held in place by Oliver's shock.
Oliver swallowed and nodded slowly, beginning to lower himself to crouch beside the curled up boy. His hand reached out and gently brushed across his cheek, tears springing to his eyes when his fingers actually met skin. He's real. Oliver's hands shook as he inspected his little cousin for any visible new injuries, and he was relieved that James managed to not bruise him.
His parents are dead. That's what he told James? So that meansâŚAunt Charlie died. How long ago? Was it recent, or around the same time that Uncle Harris was killed? What happened? Is Sammy alive?
James watched silently, seeing how conflicted Oliver's eyes were. He was clearly processing a lot of things at one time; no doubt ecstatic about his cousin's return, whilst also being concerned about what he hsd endured. James knew that both of Oliver's cousins went missing⌠and if only one was here thenâŚhe was sure Oliver had a lot of emotions happening at the same time.
âIâŚI want to wake him up⌠but heâŚlooks so peacefulâŚâ Oliver uttered, conflicted. It had been years since he saw Tanner, and in those years he had only been able to picture his cousins suffering or dead. Now that all felt like a very distant memory, and he just wanted to watch the boy sleep in safety and comfort.
Oliver looked up at James again, and James just nodded, knowing exactly what he was asking. Oliver let out a small sigh of relief and settled down on Jame's hands, sitting against his thumb with his arms folded on top of his knees, watching Tanner and still having to keep reminding himself that this was really happening.
An hour had passed before Tanner began to stir. James had stayed still as promised, only moving a little in order to give Oliver some reassuring pats on the back as they waited. They had been mostly silent the entire time too, though James was certain that he had heard and seen Oliver cry at one point when everything had finally hit him.
As James felt the faint movements against his palm his fingers twitched inwards slightly, anxious about how the boy would react to being in his hands still. Now that he knew that this child was Oliver's cousin, the pressure to not scare him felt even more intense. He watched as the boy slowly sat up and yawned.
Then his eyes opened.
Jamesâs breath hitched when his eyes met Tanner's, instinctively lowering his head in an attempt to loom less over the borrowers sat in his palms. He opened his mouth to say something, only for the child to speak first.
âO-oh⌠A-am I your pet nowâŚ?â He asked timidly, beginning to tremble, not having even seen Oliver sitting just a few inches away yet. James and Oliver were both taken aback by the questionâ and especially the way he asked it. He didn't sound surprised and he wasn't fighting; he was just asking.
âKidâŚno. That'sâŚâ James trailed off, shaking his head quickly. Luckily Oliver stepped in, seeing that James was having trouble finding the right words.
He shuffled closer without standing up, wanting to be at Tanner's eye level when they spoke. Part of him was hesitating, his heart racing at the thought of doing or saying something wrong. He paused for just a moment when he saw Tanner's eyes; black like a void; but he continued despite the questions the sight gave him.
âIt's alright. You're safeâŚâ That was the first thing he wanted to make clear; having no idea what kind of experiences his cousin had had in the past three years so not wanting to presume he would understand that just by recognizing him. Oliver brought his hands forward carefully, keeping them palm up and low down, gently taking Tanner's shaky hands into his own. He offered a small sombre smile.
âDo you remember me..?â He asked, unsure of how much he would remember. Oliver moved out when Tanner was only 5 years old after all, and although he tried to visit regularly he was sure that he must still feel like a stranger. Oliver's thumbs ran over the back of his smaller hands as he waited patiently for a response.
Tanner stared at him for a few seconds, and Oliver wasn't sure if it was because he didn't recognize him or if he was in shock seeing him againâŚespecially in the hands of a human. He simply kept a smile on his face and continued to hold his hands; grip soft enough that he could pull away at any time.
James was silent as he watched the interaction, trying his best to keep any twitching at bay. He hoped he would just fade into the background, practically holding his breath so that the boy would focus on Oliver instead.
âU-umâŚyour name is OliverâŚâ Tanner finally responded, his words coming out slow and shaky. Oliver watched with concern as black tears began to gather in his eyes, unsure if that was normal or painful or what it meantâ he had never seen or heard of such a condition and he couldn't take Tanner to a hospital.
âA-are you gonna save me..?â The younger borrower asked, hiccuping slightly as his fingers weakly gripped tighter onto Oliver's hands. His tone took on a more desperate edge and he moved a little closer to his cousin. âF-from the human?â
Tanner turned towards James, staring up at him with trepidation.
Oliver baulked at the question, his eyebrows furrowing and expression becoming a mixture of surprise and worry. He could feel James's hands shifting from beneath him and knew that he was uncomfortable; only staying put because of the two people seated in his palms.
Oliver cleared his throat and stood up slowly, gently pulling Tanner to his feet too.
âLet's step onto the countertop, okay?â The best way to get Tanner to understand that James wasn't a threat was to show that. Oliver could insist that he was a good human as much as he wanted, but in this case it was better not to argue without knowing how Tanner would react. He might only get upset at his insistence.
Tanner gave James a wary glance before following Oliver, clutching onto his arm now as he moved off of the giant hand and onto the cold granite. He shivered, partially missing the warmth of the human's hands but reminding himself of what those hands were capable of.
James relaxed once he no longer had to keep still, and slowly put his hands into his lap, glancing at Oliver for some sort of signal of what to do. Should he stay or go? It didn't take long for Oliver to tell him what to do.
He looked up at James, giving a slight nod.
âJames? Would you make some miso soup for Tanner? Fetch a cup of water in the meantime. I'm sure he's thirsty.â Oliver chose miso soup because, although he would love to give Tanner all of the fruits the boy could ever wish for, his stomach was almost certainly empty. Citrus was bad for an empty stomach⌠Soup would be easy to digest and filling. Not to mention it would help warm him up.
Tanner watched as the human stood up and walked away, latching onto Oliver tighter at first before relaxing as he realised that the human was obeying. He wiped at his eyes and looked up at Oliver, a spark of curiosity in his timid gaze.
âThe human l-listens to you..? Why?â
Oliver tilted his head down at the boy with a reassuring smile, crouching down again so he was closer to eye level.
âWell⌠James is a nice human. He's my friend⌠he'll listen to you too, if you ask him to do something.â He explained. Taking his eyes off of Tanner for a moment, he looked towards James and saw that he was walking back over with some water. He held up a hand to signal for him to stop and James was quick to listen. Oliver shot him a grateful smile before looking down at Tanner, who was tense and shaky all over again, staring in James's direction with an owlish gaze.
âIs it okay if he gets close and brings the water over here?â Oliver asked. As expected, Tanner shook his head, crouching down himself and huddling into Oliver's side. James had to strain to listen to the conversation and his heart stammered when he saw the kid shake his head. Even soâŚ
âI'll leave the water over here then, see?â James assured, placing the small cup down on the counter beside him, a few feet away from the borrowers. He also placed down two tinier cups that he had bought for Oliver to be able to drink more comfortably when visiting. With that done, James moved away again to boil some water.
Tanner perked up ever so slightly as he watched, unsure if going over to the water was a trap or not. He looked to Oliver for guidance and followed slowly behind him as the man began to walk towards the water, a hand brushing over his head reassuringly. He craved that kind of touch. It had been so long⌠it still didn't feel as familiar as his sister's hand though.
He peered at the glass, reaching out and pressing his palm against it, seeing his faint reflection in it. That made him smile, leaning in closer and poking at it. It had been a while since he saw himselfâŚhe almost forgot what he looked like. His eyes were different and gave him a weird empty feeling when he looked into them, but everything else was at least vaguely familiar to him.
Oliver picked up one of the doll cups as Tanner began to pull faces at his reflection, slight amusement creeping into his expression and mixing with sadness. He exhaled slowly from his nose to regain his composure and steady his shaky hands, before reaching up and scooping some water into the cup he was holding. He then offered it to Tanner.
âHere.â
Tanner looked at the cup warily, then up at Oliver. His hands fidgeted nervously and messed with the edge of the gown he was in, seeming conflicted.
âS-Sammy always tastes stuff first⌠she says when someone that loves you does that it makes the food or water better for you. B-but umâŚshe says it only works if you're older.â He explained, tapping his blackened fingers together.
Oliver felt an immense amount of hope hearing Tanner speak about his sister in the present-tenseâŚand simultaneously his heart ached as he immediately understood the real reason why Sammy would be tasting it first; to test that it hadn't been tampered with. Still, he nodded, bringing the cup to his lips and taking the first sip.
Tanner's expression brightened seeing him do that, and once the cup was offered again he took it and drank it hungrily, finishing the cup in only seconds. Oliver took the cup back and repeated the process; filling it with water and taking a sip before handing it to Tanner.
He reminded the boy to slow down a bit, worried he may get himself sick drinking too quickly, and Tanner obliged. Soon enough the boy was no longer thirsty, wiping at his slightly damp mouth and smiling, seeming a bit more energetic now.
âOliver? If the human listens to you, does that mean he'll let us go too?â He asked, having seated himself in Oliver's lap and hugging onto him now that he was done drinking. Oliver nodded, brushing a hand against his matted hair.
âOf course. James may have scared you before when he and Henry found you, but he was only worried about you. James told me he barked at you a little bit⌠That's my fault. He must have thought you would give him a treat, because that's what I do.â Oliver explained softly. âHe's big, but he's very gentle⌠James and Henry.â
âI don't like dogsâŚâ Tanner admitted sheepishly, shifting uncomfortably for a moment before looking up at Oliver. âA dog ate mum. Sammy tried to cover my eyes and my ears, but I heard a bit. She was saying no a lot and screaming, and the dog was growling, and then the bad man started shouting too. And Sammy cried all night when she thought I fell asleep, but I was only pretending..â
Oliver let out a shuddery breath, keeping any tears in as Tanner confessed those details to him so calmly. He could tell by how Tanner was holding him tighter that it was uncomfortable for him to talk about, but at the same time, Tanner had been exposed to so much violence at such a young age that he likely didn't understand how alarming it was for someone else to hear about that memory.
He could remember when he had been similar; randomly saying to his aunt and uncle about what his father's body had looked like, or what his mother said to him, or the way his sister had been so silent⌠It had been his first time being out of that environment, and whenever a memory or association would spring to his mind it felt compulsive to say it.
This was a normal and healthy way for Tanner to start processing those kinds of events, but that didn't make it any easier for Oliver to listen to. He hugged Tanner a little closer, not wanting to cry because he didn't want Tanner to hesitate when sharing these feelings.
James had finished making the miso soup, and cut the tofu into extra tiny pieces (though he was sure they were still hand-sized to the borrowers) before mixing that in. He poured the soup into a small bowl and took some tiny doll bowls out of the drawer he kept Oliver's things in. He walked over but stopped a few feet away again looking down at Tanner. He offered a sheepish smile.
âCan I come closer?â He asked.
Tanner stared back at him for a while, seeming to actually think about it. Even so, James was expecting a no, and was just hoping that he might get a yes. He didn't want to be seen as a monsterâŚ
To his surprise though, the boy nodded. James perked up and tried not to get too excited about the opportunity, still walking slowly over and setting the bowl down next to the water cup. He set the doll bowls down too, smiled as he silently celebrated, and then walked back over to the bigger bowl he made for himself. Picking that bowl up, he brought it over, and hesitated to come too close again.
âIs it alright if I sit and eat nearby?â He checked, just in case. Tanner was still curled into Oliver as the older borrower scooped some of the soup into the tiny bowls, picking out a piece of tofu too. The boy looked a bit less afraid now, and seemed to be curious but wary. James was once again happy to see the nod he got in response, beaming at the boy who seemed a little taken aback by the expression.
James set his bowl down and moved a stool over, sitting down close but not too close to the borrowers. He watched with mild confusion as Oliver took a bite of the tofu and a sip of the soup before giving it to Tanner, but shrugged it off as he dipped his spoon into the bowl, blowing on it gently to cool it down.
He saw from the corner of his eyes that Tanner was still watching, blowing onto his bowl to mimic his action, and James had to fight the urge to chuckle. He swallowed down his spoonful before noticing that Oliver wasn't eating.
âNot hungry, mate?â He asked, not particularly concerned but just wondering. There had been plenty of times that Oliver didn't eat when he visited, so it wasn't out of the ordinary. Oliver nodded with a polite smile.
âI ate before leaving my burrow.â He lied. In reality, Oliver wasn't sure if he'd be able to keep it all down after what Tanner had just spoken about. He was content to simply watch his cousin get his fill instead, his hands clasped together in his lap to hide how they were trembling.
It was peaceful at that moment. Oliver continued to think over all the possibilities of what may have happened to his cousins, but all he knew for certain was that as soon as he found the human responsibleâŚ
He would kill them himself.

Masterlist
âââââââââââââââââââââââââ
You are just like any unmasked vigilante fighting crime and coming home to tend to your wounds. You didnât have any powers⌠Well, being able to hear heart beats and having a better reflex than Peter makes you have powers. You always fought crime all day and then came home around 11 or 12 to tend to wounds and go to sleep. It was the usual routine waking up at 10am to your roommate Peter getting ready for college trying to look for his spider suit as you got up and got ready.
You recently found out while spying on hell's kitchen that there was a new list of future victims. One of the names stood out to you. Kate Bishop, your mentors partner, the same women you had the worst crush on. Even though Clint told you that she was off limits you still liked her. The tension you both had mixed with how she was always caring for you made the crushâs worst. After finding out about her being a target you brought it to Clint. That's when he gave you a task of protecting her. Thatâs how you two got closer while the whole kingpin thing was happening.
But now itâs different you're on a mission to retrieve the ronin sword for Clint in an old warehouse. It was protected by what seemed like hundreds of guards so you couldnât have just gone guns blazing. You picked them out one by one until there was no one left. You retrieved the sword. The sharp pain jutting you into fight or flight as you glance down seeing a whole sword stick through your stomach. You quickly elbow the guy in the face while pocketing the sword. Another two come up behind you as one hits your head with a brick and the other takes the sword out of you. Your senses are off, your seeing double. The first guy gets on top of you and starts punching you. After what felt like 5 hits to the body and about 2 to the face you grab a bottle right next to you and smash it against him. You get up and start fighting the other two. They didnât expect it and didnât put up much of a fight. Though one of them was able to make your wound worse by hitting the handle of their sword into the wound. The first guy comes back with a knife and is able to slice you a few times on the body and twice on the face. You were able to throw a pallet at him.
You caught your breath and examine your wound, it was bad. You needed a hospital but being a vigilante, that wasnât gonna work. Clint wouldnât be up, Peter is out and wonât answer, and most heroâs are asleep by now. But thatâs when you know of someone that lives nearby and also usually gets home at this time. Kate. You climb the building as the police come. you start running from roof tops and swinging till you get to her fire exit. You climb it and see if sheâs home sheâs not but will be soon. You gently push up the window that was thankfully unlocked but still Kate will get a lecture about it. You progressively get more tired as you sit by her bathroom. Then everything goes black.
You wake up from the door opening and you try to get up but you have no strength. Kate walks through as she puts her bag down and pets lucky. You groan as you try to get up. Her head snaps to you, she was afraid at first but then sees itâs you.
âY/n what are you doing where itâs almost 1 in the morning.â She looks at you annoyed and then worried.
âKate please I didnât know who else to go toâ your hand bloody as she see the streak of blood on the wall
âAre you okâ she says worried and moves you to her bathroomâwhat happenedâ
âI got stabbedâ you say in a very monotone way. She reaches to pull off your suit and you flinch.
âI canât help you if you donât take it offâ Kate says sincerely as you realize that sheâll have to see your face, the one youâve only shown to Peter and Clint.
âOkâ is all you can say and she takes it of leaving you in a sports bra and a gator mask on the top half of you . She tends to your stab as you hiss and groan from the pain. Every noise you make she praises you, you blush hard which is covered by the mask.
âStop shifting your hips so muchâ she says, looking up at you and then going back to work. You didnât realize the effect that she has on you and how much her praising you makes you horny. But you couldnât think of that. Once sheâs done she cleans your little cuts until she gets to your face. She cleans the eyebrow one but the cheek one goes under the mask, she looks at you for consent as you nod she takes it off and goes wide eyes. She starts cleaning it but her cheeks get progressively get more pink. You're now aware of how close you two are, the sound of your breathing and your groans are loud. Once sheâs done she goes towards the kitchen as you follow her.
âIâm sorry for Intruding into your house but your window was unlocked and justâ you pause â thank you for helping me even though I broke into your house you could have just left me to die.â She steps close to you practically chest to chest. The tension builds. You can hear her heart beat racing as fast as yours. The feeling is mutual. This crush youâve had on her evolves. Itâs a craving, not a crush.
âI never knew that you would be that hot under the mask, I knew you would be hot just by your voice but I mean fuck your hotâ she says it confidently as you just blush.âyou know how Clint said I was off limits and how he would kill me and you if we did anythingâ you nodâyou make me want to break his rule even if it results in my death, y/n I need you pleaseâ that is your cue.
You lean in kissing her, you lean in softly but she roughenes the kiss and she leads you to her bed room up the stairs. You push her onto the mattress as you get on top of her. You start making out and sliding your hand under her shirt slowly going up and starting to massage her breast. She moans into your mouth and you take that as your invite to deepen the kiss and have your tongues fight for dominance.
You break apart to take off her shirt and bra. You admire her, all her little scars, her abs, Kate starts to get red as you just take in the woman infront of you. The only thing you can hear is both of your breathing. You know that it is wrong to want her when the mentor youâve had for years told you never to go after her but the excitement of breaking his rules fuels you more. You move to start kissing and sucking marks on her neck. She becomes a whiny mess under you pleading for you.
âPlease y/n pleaseâ
âWhat do you want me to do Kateâ
âPlease anything, anything you want, just please fuck meâ she whines and she squirming under you as your hands explore her body.
âTell me exactly what you wantâ
âAnything pleaseâ she gets more impatient as time goes on
âDo you want my hand or my mouth, pick Kateâ
âYour mouth pleaseâ she pleads looking at you with doe eyes.
You get on your knees looking up at her for consent as she nods. You pull off both her pants and underwear as you start making marks on her inner thigh. She squirms and bucks her hips multiple times. You hold her hips down as you lick a stripe of her pussy. Taking in the taste of her and moaning at it. You attach your lips to her clint as you begin to suck on it. She gives you the most pornographic moan that immediately makes you more horny.
Your fingers begin to tease her at her core. Her hips try to buck under you as you hold them down. Sheâs a moaning mess for you. Your fingers made their way into her wetness as she practically starts screaming your name. Her back is arching as you start at a slow pace and begin to go faster. You keep going at a faster pace until you hit her g spot.
âOh my god right there fuck y/n right there your such a good girl you gonna make me cum so hardâThe moment those words came out her mouth you knew that you needed to make her come now.
Her hands pulling your hair as your groan on her clint making her moan more from the vibrations. You can tell sheâs close by how much sheâs cleaching on your fingers. She comes hard yelling out your name as you help her ride out her high. Once sheâs done you take out your fingers and put them in your mouth moaning at the taste of them. You get up and go back on top of her to start kissing her. Before you can react she flips you over.
âYou didnât think I wasnât going to return the favorâ she chucklesâwe have to be careful with your stitches so that means no arching your backâ you look confused on what sheâs going to do
She takes off your pants and underwear as she moves back on top of you, moving your leg to her side as she places her pussy on yours. You both are moaning from the intimacy. She starts to grind her hips as you throw your head back. Both of your Clintâs hitting perfectly on every grind. Both of you close from the prior intimacy and even if you didnât come then you're sure as hell gonna now.
âFuck Kate Iâm gonna comeâ
âCome with meâ
You both release at the same time. Both of you out of breath calming down from your highs. Once you both came down Kate climbs off of you as she lays beside you. You both just sit there in bliss of everything that happened. Before both of you could say anything Kateâs phone rings. Its from Clint. She put it on speaker.
âHey Kate have you heard from y/n at allâ
âNo whyâ
âIâm scared she got hurt on my mission I put her onâ
âOh Iâm sorry I havenât heard from her in a while Iâll tell you if I doâ
âReally?â He questions suspiciously.
âYeah??..â she questions now looking at you.
âOh my god right there y/n right thereâ he pausesâthat doesn't ring a bellâ
Fuck

The Bridgeport Cat CafĂŠ
New Leverage AU, based on this video of someone from a cat cafĂŠ account introducing their cats and describing what types of crime they (allegedly) engage in:
Hardison bought them a cat cafĂŠ instead of a brewpub.
Parker thinks it's a great idea. As soon as Hardison shared the idea with her, she started planning out the incredibly elaborate system of climbing structures, catwalks, tunnels, and hidey-holes at both cat and human scale. Hardison wasn't able to implement all of her ideas, especially not before the rest of the team arrived, but he managed a lot, including purchasing the rest of the building the original cafĂŠ occupied and expanding into that space.
The renovated cafĂŠ quickly becomes known for the fact that it is both the physically largest cat cafĂŠ any of the patrons have encountered and that sections of it essentially double as an indoor play structure for both kids and adults.
Hardison, as someone with allergies himself and knowing Leverage would want to bring clients here, poured a lot of thought into the cat-free and "allergy-friendly" side of the cafĂŠ, where patrons can enjoy all of the cafĂŠ's food and beverage offerings, watch the cats, and even climb a limited portion of their signature human-sized "cat tree" while remaining separated from the cats by enormous windows. The two areas are served by separate ventilation and both have thorough air filtration. The cat-free side quickly becomes popular with the remote-work crowd who like to bring their laptops and watch the cats without any actually climbing on them and their work materials. (There are also customer-free portions of the building the cats can retreat to and optionally view the customers through glass.)
Eliot and Sophie, of course, say the idea is absolutely insane. Sophie's mostly ticked off about the unilateral move to Portland and them taking on the extra burden of a (weird, niche) business (although she makes little secret of being charmed by many of the cats themselves), but Eliot is particularly incensed about the difficulties of trying to run a cafĂŠ that's full of animals. "Running a good cafĂŠ isn't child's play, you know. You planning make food on site with cat fur everywhere? You think the Health Department's gonna stand for that? Sure, you can probably get away with some kind of automatic coffee machine and prepackaged food, but that ain't a cafĂŠ, that's an animal shelter with a damn vending machine."
His complaints trail off as Hardison steers him into the (newly renovated) kitchen, through the airlock-style double doors from a hallway not open to the cats, each with an automatic air curtain to keep cat fur as well as cats from slipping through. The other side of the kitchen has pass-throughs and doors directly to the cat-free side of the cafĂŠ. The gleaming new espresso machines are already in place, along with other basic kitchen equipment, although Hardison comments that he's still researching the best ovens and layout for baking all of their pastries on-site (the printouts and notes on his research are already bundled up and ready to be "spilled" on top of the materials for their next job, in front of Eliot).
The kitchen also features several plexiglass tunnels so that cats can watch the action in the kitchen without contaminating the space. Eliot will never admit, even under torture, to making squinty eyes and kissy noises at the cats that come to hang out with him while he cooks with no other humans around to see, especially when prepping pastry in the wee hours of the morning before anyone but the cats is awake.
Finally, Nate regrets having turned Hardison loose with free rein to pick the Portland HQ. When he suggested a restaurant or something as a front, he assumed he knew the limits of what that could entail--in hindsight, he's glad they didn't end up operating out of a Medieval Times* knock-off. He's performatively grouchy about the cats, yet never seems to chase away the ones that mysteriously end up on his lap during job planning. There's one particular "shoulder cat" that seems to love nothing more than riding around on Nate's shoulders during a briefing, occasionally punctuating particularly passionate sections with supportive meows.
Another quirk the cafĂŠ becomes semi-known for is the prominent lost-and-found counter where patrons can try to reclaim items that have vanished from their pockets, as the cats at this establishment seem to be oddly prone to pickpocketing...
*Consciously or not, Nate is on some level aware of how much Hardison and Parker would enjoy watching Eliot "joust."

Promise, I'll be back FINAL
Jenna Ortega x Reader
Warnings: Angst, Fluff
Summary: Part 3 of Homecoming and Promise, I'll be back.
Tbh, I wanted to write it longer but with the limited time I have, because of work... this would do for now....
When one of the survived officers showed up on Jenna's doorstep to hand your final letter, she completely broke down. Only with the help of her mother was she able to stand up and settle down on the couch. Her mother engulfed her into an embrace to comfort her mourning child.
"You don't have to read it now, but one day, you would like to know what Y/N's last words are for you. Once you read it, you will feel better and move on. Continue to live for you and for Y/N. I'm sure that's what they'll ever want." Jenna held onto the letter very tight and silently sob against her mom's shoulder.
In the following months, Jenna purposely fully booked her schedule. It has nothing to do with a certain letter, waiting for her to rip open and read it. She knew she would eventually have to open it. She knew as soon as she opened it, that would be your final goodbye to her. That she would never see you again. She would have to accept that you are gone and would never come back to her.
One day, she paces in her trailer, nibbling on her thumb, and keeps glancing at the letter that was poking out of her bag. This is the hardest decision-making that she'd ever had.
Finally, she took the letter and ripped it open.
Hello my love,
I'm sorry. I couldn't keep the promise. I only had an hour to write you this letter. I had so much in my head that I wanted to write down for you to read, and now that I'm actually doing it, I can't remember any of it.
Just remember I love you, and I always will. I'll be waiting for you. Keep achieving your goals for me and you.
yours only,
Y/N Ashford.
That's it. After several months, she accepted that you were gone. The following days are filled with grief and moving on. Fans have noticed her change of mood, and a lot of reporters have asked about you, but she managed to avoid all the questions. Because of that, a lot of people thought Jenna was just going through a breakup.
Jenna was busy filming her next movie when someone in the set let out a loud gasp, which ruined the take. Jenna watched the staff who ruined the take show something on her phone, and then everyone started to take out their phones. Jenna was confused. She only got enlightened when one of the staff showed their phone.
It's a live broadcast from looks like an abandoned building, and two people in military uniform are tied up almost slouching down with black cloths covering their heads. Two men standing behind them with guns. It's clear that they were or are being tortured. Then, a man with a skul mask appeared in front of the camera, talking in a different language, which translates to:
"Give us 10 billion US dollars, and these american soldiers are going home alive."
Then, the two men took off the black fabric from the soldiers. Jenna gasped and almost everyone at the studio, too. Captain Y/N Ashford and their sergeant are being tortured for money by this group of people.
Jenna's tears are pouring nonstop, and she's also shaking. The man with the skul mask kept talking in a different language when suddenly a bullet striked him in the head and dropped on the floor. There were bullets fired from all the directions, and the live stream ended.
The studio fell in silence as everyone was still in shock or silently crying. The director decided to stop the filming and wrapped up for today, as they were cleaning the studio, they heard a helicopter approaching. Everyone exited the studio just to see a military helicopter landing in the wide open space in front of the studio.
You climbed out of the vehicle with fresh tended wounds. Among the crowds, a small figure came out of the studio running with full speed into your arms. She almost knocked you off your feet, but you managed to keep your balance and embraced her tight.
"I don't ever leave me like that!" Jenna says and buries her head onto your chest.
"Didn't I promise you that I'll come back?" You asked, moving an inch away to see her face.
She nodded, looking straight into your eyes.
"I kept my promise." You say and lean in to kiss her on her lips.
The crowds were crying, applauding, and whistling.

I'm gonna bust my head for thinking about tall female muscular supermercy and not asking this erlier but can I request a headcanon with Neteyam x fem tall muscular reader who just got her avatar and is like taller than Neteyam and her muscles are like transformend into her avatar and starts to learn The na'vi way (like Omiticaya) and Jake sees himself and Neytiri in them cuz you know 'A royal girl and an outcast boy' but now revesed as 'a royal boy and an outcast girl". And she is also friends with Lo'ak and is like dad fruend to him. (Gives him piggybacks when no one is around).
If it's too long just ignore this request have a nice day/night!
Pairing: Neteyam x tall! muscular! reader
Warnings: None
Genre: Fluff~
A/N: Hey anon ^-^ I hope you'll like what I wrote~
!Not proofread! Sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes.
Y/N was in love with her avatar-self. The way she could move around, run, climb, amazing.
The two of them have known each other for quite a long time, since Spider brought her with him to the Sully's one day. Y/N was still human though.
From that day on, they saw each other nearly every day. As in, she met the whole Sully family.
Going on small hunts or just walking around and see who climbs the tree faster.
It doesn't matter what they do, what counts is spending time together.
But once Y/N got the message that she now has an avatar she can 'switch' into- That girl wasn't able to be stopped.
She's always been on the muscular side in her human form. Y/N had muscles most humans didn't even know of, let alone building them.
But now as avatar?
These muscles were there too, but damn, she was strong af.
Not to mention her height she was so amazed of.
Sure, she knew that was quite normal for most na'vis, Y/N loved being tall, cause compared to Na'vi, humans are chihuahuas.
Heh,she was even a bit taller than Neteyam, and was sure to let him know that. After all, she was finally taller than him, now being able to tease him, and not the other way around.
"How's the air down there?"
"I'm literally just some inches shorter than you."
Y/N was secretly very very happy that Neytiri accepted her a tad more once she came back as avatar.
As she started to learn the omaticaya-way, everyone helped her.
At first, everything was a little harder, but after some training Y/N's skill and technique improved.
She even was allowed to tag along on a clan-hunt.
The girl wasn't that clumsy anymore when it came to running on blue legs and was able to carry Lo'ak, who's been her friend since ever, around on her back.
After some time, she got accepted as a full member of the clan. And Y/N got.her.own.ikran.
As new clan member, she lived with the Sully family.
Suprisingly, Neytiri wasn't against it. No, she liked her presence. Jake told her that Y/N and Neteyam remind him of themselves. Of him and Neytiri, just the other way around.
Y/N got infected by Lo'ak's craziness/recklessness. They're probably flying on their ikrans, exploring things and areas they shouldn't.
Hope you liked it ^-^
Request smth here if you want to.

My Borrowed Son | 10 | Unwrapped Questions
Chapter Ten | Unwrapped Questions
âHappy birthday Parker! Smile!â Amanda held up her phone and snapped several pictures over and over, not wanting to miss a single moment. The click of the digital shudder seemed to flick the memories from the past six years before Amandaâs eyes. She replayed them in her mind.
She could remember all of it as if it were yesterday.
Finding Parker under the bench abandoned and alone.
His first words.
His trust building as he grew and began to question the world around him.
It seemed like yesterday that she celebrated his first birthday with her where he turned a whopping five years old; at least, thatâs where she thought he was age wise. Now he was officially ten years old.
Double digits.
It took everything in her not to break out in a sob as she reminisced. The years had certainly aged him. The minuscule boy no bigger than her thumb was growing up. There was a sense of pride that she had managed to keep him alive and safe all of this time, but also a sense of wonder and fear.
Parker wasnât two inches tall anymore. He was getting closer to three and a quarter inches, and he would only keep growing from there. He was developing a sense of style and taste in the things he liked. The clothes he wore, which he was beginning to make himself, were more free flowing and flexible while tight in others.
His mind constantly wanted more knowledge. By now, he had read through nearly every book in Amandaâs home and she was renting stacks of books weekly for him from the local library. Parker had also gotten into experimenting recently, which was a huge scare for Amanda.
She had walked by his room one day to find one of the push lights completely disassembled and Parker messing with the wires, connecting them to different elements of the electronic device to figure out how it worked.
That ended up being a discussion about safety which Parker did not enjoy.
The rambunctious boy was also getting into climbing and inventing, which set Amanda completely on edge. Not only was Parker balancing precariously on whatever he could, but he was testing the strength of different items around the house. Once, Amanda found him with a piece of yarn attached to a paper clip which was wrapped around one of the knobs on the bathroom counter.
When she asked him why, he said he didnât know.
It just felt right.
He had an unexplainable urge to climb and jump and tumble over anything and everything. Try as she might, Amanda couldnât get him to stop completely. The compromise was that she had an area specifically set up for him to run drills and âplay.â It was like a complicated playground with tunnels made from the cardboard tubes from toilet paper or paper towels as well as yarn, toys, and boxes.
Despite his rambunctiousness, Parker also found time for his âquietâ activities, reading and writing in the notebooks Amanda gave him. He was a thoughtful, intuitive child and it really showed in his writing when he dared to share it with his mom.
Now, he was a whole ten years old.
Amanda nearly choked up again as she stared at her sonâs face and the little plume of smoke where the candle once stood lit. It was the first candle he had ever been able to blow out by himself.
âDid you get it, mom?â asked Parker as he leaned around his cupcake birthday cake and stood as tall as he could. Amanda had to quickly wipe her eyes with the back of her hand as she nodded.
âOf course I did, sweetie,â she said affectionately. âNow, cake or presents first?â
âPresents please!â Parker cheered as he stepped off of his makeshift stool that he stood on top of to blow out his candle. He darted over to the small, wrapped boxes Amanda had prepared. It was excruciating work, but it was well spent. Parker deserved to have wrapped presents just like any other child after all.
The child bounced on the balls of his feet as he examined the five different packages in front of him. Two of them were about as big as him while the other three were much smaller.
He decided to go with the big ones.
It took him a minute to undo the wrapping as his little fingers fumbled with the paper, but he eventually pulled it back to reveal an MP3 player. It was a very simple model that took AAA batteries, but it held loads of music, which was something Parker frequently enjoyed.
âOh, thank you momma⌠but⌠what is it?â asked Parker. He remembered his manners even when he was confused, which made Amanda chuckle.
âItâs a music player. Now you can play music in your room without asking me. You just flick this right here to turn it on and this is how you switch songs,â Amanda explained as she demonstrated how to use Parkerâs new toy.
She knew it was old fashioned technology, but he was still a bit too young in her opinion to have a phone or complete access to the internet. What little access he did have was to watch movies at the end of the night, which was always with Amanda.
âOhhh! Thank you momma!â Parker said eagerly as he pressed the play button and began listening to the âHappyâ song. He moved onto the small packages, which were some more books and new colored pencils, the âworldâs smallest video game, and a new board game - chess. It was part of a multipack which Amanda had been rationing out when he achieved something like reading a big book. Now felt like a good time to give him a more complicated game which he could learn over time.
âThese are great! Thank you,â smiled Parker as he excitedly went from present to present.
He finally moved onto the last big one, but opening it brought a face of confusion when he found something that looked like a metal rod.
âMomma? Whatâs this?â Parker asked. He lifted it with a heave and observed the metal ends that clicked together like Legos. Amandaâs smile broadened as her eyes gleamed with excitement.
âOkay, your last big present is⌠a little bigger than the others. Here,â said Amanda as she got up from the table, making sure she had her camera set to record, as she hurried out of the room and into the back bedroom and emerged with a package that was massive, even for her.
Parkerâs eyes widened as he stepped over to the edge of the table and watched as his mom unveiled the final gift. The front of the box read âSnap Circuits,â which already made Parkerâs eyes gleam. He enjoyed electronics and figuring out how things worked, and this seemed to be right up his alley.
âOkay, so this right here is an experiment kit. You take pieces, like the one you have over there, and hook them up to a board to understand how electricity and batteries work. If youâre going to be curious, do it safely first,â said Amanda as she slid the box just under Parker. He wasted no time in jumping down into the box to examine all of the parts and pieces.
âWoah! Mom! This is incredible!â Parker said, jaw slackened in awe.
âI thought youâd like it. Now, letâs get it unpacked and get playing with it,â smiled Amanda.
For the next three hours, the two of them clicked and set up different experiments. Amanda did make Parker read most of the instructions out loud, which was frustrating from time to time, but the end result of getting lightbulbs to glow or fans to rocket into the air was absolutely worth it.
It was a great celebration - perfect even.
StillâŚ
There was something deep down that Parker wanted that wasnât - couldnât - be wrapped in paper.
~~~^*^*^~~~
Parker, for as long as he could remember, knew he was a little different. He knew he was small for his age, but there was a good reason for it.
Parvi Homunculi Syndrome.
He had it ever since he was a baby. Evidently, it was a rare condition that made him a perfectly sized human, but just significantly smaller than any other human. The condition was so rare that very few people knew about it and, therefore, not a lot of research had been done. Not even the greatest scientists in the world had answers.
There was no cure.
There was no treatment.
Not even online resources had anything significant to say about the condition except that the origin words were from Latin and that it meant âlittle human.â
It was final.
Parker was always going to be tiny.
He was alright with his size. In fact, he never felt like anything about him was entirely off. The child felt completely normal, but he was told by his mother that his condition kept him fragile, making the outside world a bit more dangerous for him than any other human.
It was like the people who were allergic to sunlight.
Normal, and yet not.
Parker didnât resent that fact. He enjoyed his time with his mother and loved the time he had to explore, read, and do mostly whatever he wanted.
It was the simple fact that there was no one else like him that made him feel⌠lonely⌠from time to time.
The child knew there were kids his age, but he also knew he could never play with them because they wouldnât know about his condition and not be careful with him. It was a precaution. It was a necessary precaution.
StillâŚ
It didnât stop him from feeling a bit out of place.
It was a sensation he could never quite get rid of. Everything just felt so big and some of his impulses and thoughts just felt right despite how dangerous they seemed. He remembered an instance with a paper clip and yarn he attached to one another. Parker was tired of asking his mother to lift him to the sink anytime he wanted to play in the sink or if he needed to go to the bathroom. So, he found a solution. He attached a paper clip to some yarn and threw it upward until it caught the knob on the sink drawer.
Was it dangerous to climb it?
Yes. Absolutely.
Did he do it?
Mostly - if his mom hadnât stopped him.
Parker couldnât explain how he knew how to climb the rope or why that seemed like the best solution, but he did it anyway.
Another time he was balancing on the edge of the nightstand drawer at the very bottom. His mom told him to be careful, but he still lost his balance and fell toward the ground. Inside of him, something told him how to twist in the air and land safely on his feet - and so he did. His mom fussed and worried over him for a week, but Parker emerged completely unscathed from the incident. He and his mother both were astounded he was alright considering the fall was the equivalent of falling from the roof of a two story building.
There were a million instances just like this, and none of them could be explained.
Nothing stopped Parker from asking questions, but all of them were explained with the condition he had; so, ultimately, he started attributing all of these odd quirks to his genetic condition.
Every once in a while, he felt like he just wanted to be like his mom - normal. But he suspected that others with this condition had the same thoughts and feelings too. Anyone who was deemed a little different probably wanted to feel normal every once in a while, whatever ânormalâ actually was.
Now that he was ten, Parker felt he had more questions than answers, but not all of them pertained to his instincts. Some of them were about life. There were things he knew, and there were things he didnât know. And, for the things he didnât know, sometimes he was afraid to ask. Whether it was natural apprehension for delving into the unknown or because he was afraid to hear the answer, Parker didnât know.
But, what he did know was that his mom always had a hard time saying ânoâ to him when it was his birthday.
Now was his one day out of the year where he felt like he could summon the courage to ask some really tough questions.
And this time he was going to do it.
So, after a healthy helping of cake and a movie of his choosing, Parker played with his plate of mostly icing and crumbs as he cleared his throat. His heart was pounding hollowly, but he wouldnât shy away from his questions today. He had already done so far too many times.
âUm⌠momma?â asked Parker, gaining his motherâs attention.
âYes, sweetie?â Amanda asked as she turned off the television and flicked on the nearby lamp.
âCould⌠um⌠could I ask you a question? And you not get mad?â Parker asked. Amandaâs body position changed immediately as she faced him, which made his mouth dry.
âParker, when have I gotten mad when youâve asked a question? You can always ask me anything and Iâll answer as best as I can. Is something wrong?â His momâs concern was evident in her signature âmomâ tone. It made Parker smile as he heard it. He knew the question came off a bit wrong by asking her not to get mad, but it just sort of slipped out.
âI⌠I know. Iâm okay. You donât get mad. I just⌠I just know some questions you⌠donât like,â said Parker. His momâs body stiffened ever so slightly as if she knew the question to come, but she nodded with conviction.
âParker, you can always ask me anything,â said his mom.
It was enough to get the ball rolling.
âWell⌠with my⌠condition⌠will I get a chance to invite friends over for my birthday?â Parker asked. He knew what the answer would be, but he wanted to ask anyway.
âParker, I wish I knew the answer to that question. I would love it if you could go out and make some friends like any other kid, but youâre special. Everything here is to help and protect you, sweetie, which I know is hard,â said his mom.
âBut, maybe, if we could go to the park together, you can help explain everything andâŚâ
âAnd kids your age arenât always as careful as you. They donât listen as well as you, Parker,â said his mom. Parker drew his legs up to his chest and picked at the lump of icing on his plate.
âThen⌠could I maybe call friends one day?â he asked. âLike⌠if you find someone who has a kid who will be careful, and we can play games online or call on the phone and stuff?â
At this suggestion, Amanda perked up.
âYes, I think I can figure something out. I want you to have friends to play games with. Iâll see what we can do. Yeah? For your birthday, Iâll do this,â suggested Amanda. Parker smiled and nodded vigorously.
âYeah, yeah! I mean⌠yes, please,â said Parker. Already, his heart was feeling lighter with the answers he was given.
âAnything else?â asked his mom, her eyes luring out more questions that had been lingering in the corners of the childâs mind.
âUm⌠I⌠guess⌠could⌠I mean⌠I love reading, butâŚâ Parkerâs next request was a bold one, but it tied into his first desire of meeting other people. He gulped and spat out his desire before he lost his nerve. âI want to go to school.â
His request lingered there for a moment before he saw his mom nodding.
âI know. Iâve seen it for a while now. I know I can only teach you so much, and you probably want to make friends with your classmates too, huh?â asked his mom. Parker nodded sheepishly.
âYes momma,â he replied.
Amanda sighed, knowing this day would come.
âAlright. Iâll see what I can do. I donât know about this season, but Iâm sure I can get some tests done and have you placed in the fall. Okay? Mind you, it will probably have to be virtual, like how I go to work sometimes. Youâll be able to see and talk to others, but going physically to school might be tricky. Okay?â
It didnât matter that he had to stay at home. He would get to interact virtually, which was a start.
âWell then, birthday boy, any other questions and requests?â
There was one other thingâŚ
It weighed on Parker, and he wasnât even sure if he could articulate what he needed or wanted. It was more of the curiosity and the unknown that captured his focus.
âUm⌠there was⌠one other thing.â
âOkay. Iâm all ears,â said his mom.
âI⌠well⌠I was just⌠wondering⌠about dad.â
The word left the air feeling charged and static. It took a good thirty seconds for his mom to respond.
âWhat were you wondering about?â
It was a legitimate question, and Parker honestly didnât know if he would get this far.
âUm⌠just⌠I donât know. I guess⌠why he missed my birthday? Why heâs not here? I⌠see in the shows and movies and stuff that thereâs a mom and a dad, and heâs not here,â said Parker. His questions were earnest and meant in innocence and sincerity, which made it all the more bitter for Amanda.
She often left her ex-husband out of all conversation and discussion. Parker had absently asked a few times in the past about him, but now there was a deliberate question about his existence and presence - or lack thereof. Amanda had to take a few deep breaths as she formulated the right words.
She had already thought about these words a while ago, and while she knew Parker would ask her one day about the truth of his size and origin, she didnât want to shatter his reality here and now.
Not on his birthday.
Maybe not ever.
Everything she said was the truth - but the bitter lying by omission burned her tongue and made her squirm.
âMy⌠husband⌠he would have been your dad⌠he left when you were just a baby. He and I⌠we didnât get along. We had our arguments and decided it would be best to split - divorce,â explained Amanda as carefully as she could. âI know he would have loved you if he got to know you, Parker, but at the time we made decisions that we thought were best for us, even though that might feel wrong now.â
Parker listened to his motherâs explanation intently. She had never given him so much information all at once.
It still left questions.
Did his dad not love him? Did he not want to try and get to know him?
What did he do wrong?
âIs⌠is it because of me?â asked Parker. He had asked the question before he had a chance to second guess himself.
Immediately, Amanda leaned over and rested her fingers beside him. Parker wasnât sure why, but a momentary instinct told him to flinch away at the approaching fingers that he knew and loved. He stood his ground, but the impulse was an odd one. As fast as it came, it went, leaving Parker feeling confused. His momâs voice brought him back to their conversation.
âParker, you listen to me. It is not because of you. Do not even think that for a second. We made the best decisions we could in the moment. They may feel wrong now, but we didnât know that at the time,â said Amanda reassuringly. âYou are so loved, Parker. Donât you forget that.â
Parker looked up into his motherâs features and saw there were tears in her eyes. His eyes started to burn seeing the conviction and passion in his motherâs gaze. He wanted nothing more than to take back his last question.
âIâm sorry. Iâm sorry. I didnât mean to make you sad,â said Parker as he leaned over and hugged his motherâs fingers, practically wrapping his whole body around them.
âNo, Parker. You didnât make me sad. Iâm just sorry I canât give you everything you want and need. I hope you know none of that is because of you,â said Amanda.
âI know. I know. Donât cry momma,â said Parker over and over again. Ever so carefully, Amanda rotated her hand and scooped up the small child to hold him to her chest. His little fingers grasped at the fibers on her shirt as he turned and faced her. She could hear his little voice apologizing, but she reassured him that there was nothing to apologize for.
In fact, she was surprised things were going as well as this. She always feared these questions when Parker asked. She feared the day if and when he would question who she was to him.
She was his mom.
But not his mother.
She didnât carry him or birth him, but she was there to nurture and teach him as if she did.
The difference didnât matter to Amanda because Parker was her son. She would protect him and love him with everything she was. It was sad she didnât have all of the answers he wanted. He deserved the truth; but how could she tell him what she didnât know?
All she could do is tell him the truth as best as she could, even as the difficult questions sat poised on the edge ready to strike at any moment. It made her feel anxious and sick, dreading what might not ever come to pass.
Perhaps that day will never come, Amanda prayed as she held Parker closer.
When the two of them had taken a few deep breaths and felt the air clear, Parker asked to go back to playing with his toys. It was still his birthday so, despite it being his bedtime, Amanda allowed him to stay awake and to play with his toys for just a little longer.
It was his birthday after all.
Parker proceeded to build three more constructions from his book before his eyes could no longer be held open. He needed sleep, and his mom knew it. She took him to the bathroom to brush his teeth and a quick bath before the two of them went to sleep.
As Parker drifted off in his bed in his room, he stared up at the edge of his momâs massive bed and called, âI love you, momma.â
âI love you, Parker. I love you so very much.â
Parker curled into his bed and smiled.
What a fun birthdayâŚ.
I would make this a comic if I had the artistic talent and time, but instead you get a text post
(The circus gang have just fallen into a large pit during one of their adventures. Caine also tagged along this time)
Zooble: God DAMMIT! (They bury their head in their hands for a moment, then look to Caine) Can you teleport us out of here?
Caine: Sincerest apologies, Zooble, but I'm afraid not! If I am to truly get the same experience that you do, then I certainly can't use my powers which none of you have! All the struggles you face are a part of the adventure, anyway, to test your skills and build teamwork!
Zooble: ...Caine, you're a [BLOINK].
Pomni: Teamwork, huh? Maybe- maybe we can climb on top of each other to get out? But then how would the people at the bottom... uh, nevermind.
Jax: How about we unravel Gangle and use her as a grappling hook?
Gangle: W-what? I can't support all your weight, I might snap!
Jax: Wow, Gangle. And to think that I believed you could have a use for once.
(Ragatha harshly shoves Jax whilst giving him a clear look of disapproval. She then walks to one of the pit's walls and runs her hand along it)
Ragatha: I might be able to find some edges we can use to climb up, like rock-climbing. Just give me a minute...
Caine: So, Kinger, how are you doing? Any ideas?
Kinger: AAAH!! Oh, hi, Caine. Well, I'm in a pit right now, and I would really rather not be in one. What was your other question?..
Jax: Are you gonna contribute at all, Looney? Give us some words of encouragement or something?
Kinger: Oh! Oh, uh. We can do it, because, hmm. We've already made it this far, so there's no point in giving up now. Together, there's nothing we can't do.
(Some of the other performers actually start to feel a little bit better, which isn't what anyone was expecting)
Kinger: Yeah! Because there's a lot of fish in the sea! And a penny saved is a penny earned! Don't look at the gift horse's mouth!!
(They all immediately lose the feeling, with Zooble being exasperated and Jax being amused. Caine is still hanging off of Kinger's every word)
Kinger: WE ARE TADC!!!!!!
Caine: So true, king...
Pomni: Oh my god we're gonna die down here
If Cosmere characters had mundane hobbies...
And by âmundaneâ I just mean ânon-extremeâ (aka, no base jumping, no paragliding); weâre talking, like, doing puzzles or going for a pleasant hike. If all these hobbies existed and Cosmere characters werenât busy fending for their lives all the time, what might they get up to?
1. Szeth: Frisbee golf
We already know that Szeth is great at paintball; I just feel like heâd be weirdly good at frisbee golf as well.
2. Renarin: Speed Rubikâs Cube
Renarin likes to fiddle and have something for his hands to do--I think solving a Rubikâs Cube would be fun for him. And I threw in âspeedâ (aka, trying to do it as fast as possible) because Renarin loves to jump into things wholeheartedly.
3. Kaladin: Indoor Rock Climbing
Kaladin has already gone rock climbing in two books--he makes his own rock wall in the chasms in Book 1 and climbs down Urithiru in Book 4. He even knows that he should be using ârock dustâ for his hands. I think some nice, non-extreme, indoor rock climbing would be good for Kaladin. Bonus: heâs not afraid of heights!
4. Shai: Stamp Collecting
(Iâm sorry)
5. Eshonai: Hiking
Eshonai loves to go out into the woods and explore, see new places and people and things. I can see her getting into hiking.
6. Raoden: Coding
Before he even had powers, Raoden already liked to memorize Aons--and from what I understand, AonDor is basically coding.Â
7. Tien: Rock Collecting
I mean, this is literally just canon. I have to imagine that heâd also enjoy whittling since that is again, simply canon.Â
8. Shallan: Crochet
Okay, so Shallan does already have hobbies in canon: like drawing, for example. But I think sheâd also enjoy crochet--all those patterns coming together, her Spren humming excitedly...
9. Adolin: Sewing
Even while trapped in Shadesmar, Adolin is able to sew himself a new outfit. If he had time and materials, he could definitely make some cool clothing.Â
10. Mare: Gardening
I mean, she loves flowers. If she were alive when her planet could support flowers, I think sheâd love to grow some.
11. Sixth of the Dusk: Birdwatching
If he wasnât, you know, desperately trying to survive at all times, I feel like Sixth of the Dusk might enjoy some nice, relaxed birdwatching.Â
12. Wax: Puzzling
Normally Wax is putting together the pieces of deadly mysteries that will impact the fate of his planet. Maybe heâd find it a nice change of pace to just put together colorful cardboard instead!
13. Rysn: Extreme Couponing
Listen, Rysn once leapt off of a cliff to talk to a god to make a deal. Clipping coupons would at least have the advantage of being safer than that, no matter how âextremeâ she gets.
14. Rlain: Amateur Radio
Amateur radio tends to use morse code, which is a form of communication Rlain might find comfortingly rhythmic. Plus, amateur radio lets you connect with people, but no one can see you or judge you for being a crab person.Â
15. Vin: Parkour
Even without powers, I can see Vin running across buildings and climbing things sheâs not supposed to climb. I think sheâd have a good time.
16. Jasnah: Crossword puzzles
Yes, I am basically calling Jasnah a nerd here, but also, I think sheâd probably really like crossword puzzles--knowing things, understanding obscure trivia, solving puzzles that arenât about the end of the world...
17. Dalinar: Tunnelling
I dunno if this is just a Reddit phenomenon, but apparently some people just really like to dig long tunnels underground? And Dalinar sure had a great time digging out that latrine that one time. Perhaps that was a sign that his true love is burrowing deep, deep underground.
18. Taravangian: Fantasy Football
I donât know a whole lot about Fantasy Football, but I believe it involves creating your own imaginary team of players and then using their actual, real-life performance to get points. So you have to be good at predicting how people will act, skilled at long-term planning, and have a deep desire to win. Itâs like Taravangianâs diagram, only nobody (hopefully) dies!
The Wolf and the Flame
Chapter 4
Summary: Geralt had just found Ciri and was headed to Kaer Morhen when something drew him into the woods. He found a woman near death and things changed for them all. (I suck at summaries just read please!) Yennefer is bad in the start of this but she and Geralt work on their friendship. Eskel is a dick at first but there is a reason and it works out. Will have a happy ending. Ciri is younger here than in the netflix show. She is about 12.
Warnings: abuse history, injuries, hurt comfort, no one under 18 to be safe, will add when I need toÂ
Words: 2,992
Chapter 4
Naurel got out of bed as soon as she was positive that Ciri and the others in the next room were asleep. She sat down by the fire in the small fireplace to warm her freezing body. Thoughts and emotions battled in her head and heart until she wanted to scream for them to stop. Should she tell Geralt she wanted to be left here? Run for it and not say anything? That wasnât an option really because Geralt kept saying they were connected in some way and he needed to understand why. The sky was starting to lighten just before the sunrise by the time sheâd made her choice. Sheâd heard Geralt yelling then storm out slamming the door shortly after she had gone into Ciriâs room and hadnât heard him come back. If she was lucky she would be able to slip out unnoticed.
She made it out of the Inn without incident only because the witcher was still gone. Releasing a breath she hadnât realized she was holding she headed to take care of some business. The sun was just peeking over the horizon when she had completed her deeds. âThank you for letting me ride you,â she said softly to the paint horse whose reins she gripped in her right hand. Roach and Ciriâs gray mare Lady were both on her left, leads being held together. She smiled when Roach nudged her with her nose as if to say âgood jobâ for talking to her new mount. âIâm not a good rider. Iâve never ridden without Geralt,â she admitted. âIâm still not physically healed but I promise to do the best I can and to get you treats whenever possible.â They had arrived at the Inn and she latched Lady and Roachâs reins to the hitching post before turning to her horse and trying to get in the saddle. It caused her too much pain to try and lift her weight into the stirrup and it also made her angry at herself for not healing faster. Damn her body and her weakness. How was she going to do this without help because if Geralt knew she was still hurting this badly heâd insist she ride with him so he could protect her and she wasnât about to take his attention from his mate so soon after their reuniting.
Biting her bottom lip she looked around for something to help when her eyes settled on the building across the street with a raised porch. Guiding her horse over she positioned her so that she was sideways next to the wooden structure then climbed the steps and approached the horse that way. She didnât have to lift herself off the ground but throwing her leg over took her breath for a moment. Her horse wickered and huffed but stayed still. âGood girl,â she praised and scratched her neck. âNow let's try this whole moving thing huh?â Naurel clicked her tongue and gave the mare's sides a small tap. âOh gods!â she softly squealed as they started moving. Deciding it would be good to experiment now instead of in front of everyone she pulled the reins to the left then to the right and was quite proud of herself when a sudden voice nearly caused her to fall.
âWhere do you think you're going?â Geralt demanded as he grabbed hold of the halter on her horse. He was pissed that she was leaving but heâd suspected it would happen after last night. Yennefer and Jaskier both promised to keep an eye out for her until he returned. Looks like they did a magnificent job.
âNowhere,â her voice was soft but sure. âI mean I did go somewhere earlier but now Iâm here.â His look was anything but impressed or amused so her forced smile faltered but she continued. âItâs going to be snowing soon so I got a warm cloak and boots and now that we have new companions I figured I should have my own horse. I know roach is special but I donât think even she can carry three for long.â His eyes never left her like he was searching for the least bit of dishonesty.
âWe need to talk about last night.â
She shook her head and held her smile. âNo, Geralt, you have nothing to explain. Ciri told me how you thought Yennefer died at Sodden. How you searched for her until the witch told you she died. How sad you were at the news. You did nothing wrong.â It was me who fucked up, she said to herself.
âNo,â he growled and put his hand on her thigh. âNaurel, I care for you. Iâve never felt the way I have since I found you.â
Her heart thundered in her chest and she knew he could hear it. A tear slipped down her cheek as she reached out to cup his jaw in her hand. âI know whatever it is that was done to me, whatever magic that is on me is drawing us together. I promise you that Iâm not running Geralt. I told you Iâd go with you to Kaer Morhen to see if anyone could help and I will keep my word. Hopefully Vesimer or one of your sorceress friends can figure out how to fix me and you can have your life back.â
He knew the hurt was deep for her because it was just as bad for him so he didnât push. At least he had her promise that she wouldnât run. He turned his head, placing a soft kiss on her palm. âYouâre wrong about my feelings Naurel but Iâll take what little hope you can give me for now. I donât like you riding your own horse, you are still too weak and Iâm afraid your wounds will open up again.â
Before she could protest the door of the Inn opened and their other companions came running out. Jaskier looked relieved to see Naurel safe. âIâm sorry, it was Yenneferâs watch,â he explained to Geralt.
Ciri handed Geralt his things as she breathed a sigh of relief at seeing Naurel. When she woke up and her friend was gone it made her heart ache. She climbed up on Lady and prepared herself for another long day in the saddle.
âCan I ride with you?â Jaskier asked Ciri. âGeralt wonât let me ride with him,â he shot the witcher a look.
Ciri chuckled, âSure as long as Lady is agreeable.â Jaskier jumped up behind her and Lady didnât protest.
Yennefer came to stand beside Geralt between Roach and Naurelâs horse. She touched the red headâs leg while giving her a look of mock sympathy. Naurel spurred her horse forward and rode away from them. Geralt sighed and shook his head at Yennefer. âWhat the fuck are you playing at Yen?â
âI feel asleep. I was tried. It worked out because sheâs fine,â Yen explained.
He glared at Yen but spoke to the redhead. âNaurel,â he called out a warning, his tone stern.
She turned the horse back and rode toward him slowing as she passed. âNever out of sight. I remember your rules witcher. Iâm just trying to get a feel for my horse.â
âGo that way,â he pointed to the north. âI need to pay the farrier then we will head out.â
âI paid him when I bought the horse from him this morning,â she told him, then rode off northbound before he could question her.
They rode till late afternoon mostly listening to the bard tell stories about his adventures with Geralt and Yennifer and the occasional song here and there pretending there wasnât an uneasy tension in the air. Naurel was pretty sure that her head was going to explode. Geralt had reluctantly let Yennefer ride behind him and they rode beside Naurel most of the time, the witcher' eyes always watching her even though sheâd assured him she was fine.
Naurel was trying to focus on the road ahead instead of the pain or the way Geraltâs eyes never left her when she noticed Ciri ride around to the other side of her effectively pinning her between them. She wondered if her riding was that bad because she thought she was doing well for her first time alone.
âWhere did you get the money for the horse,â Yennefer asked, trying to distract Geralt. She bit back a smile when she caught Naurelâs glare but pushed on. âI mean Ciri told us how they found you near death with nothing. Or were you hiding your wealth from them?â she asked accusingly.
âI would never do that,â Naurel growled angrily. âI can be accused of a lot of things witch but being a thief or a whore are not one of them.â She knew Yennefer was insinuating sheâd whored herself out for money and it provoked a rage in her that she didnât like. The most severe beatings she received in her life were because sheâd run from slavers or owners when they tried to force her into the sex trade. âI sold my necklace to the innkeeper. I had asked him if there was a jeweler in town and he asked to buy the locket himself for his wife.â
âYou sold your locket? Why?â Geralt was angry and confused.
Naurel shrugged. âIt was just a locket. Iâve had it since I was three and it wasnât doing anyone any good hidden away.â
âBut it was your only tie to your past,â he sighed. âTo help you find who your family was.â
âIt was a stupid dream. I was orphaned either by choice or necessity. Iâve been nothing since I was three. I'm sure thatâs not going to suddenly change because of a small piece of gold. Besides, it just made me more vulnerable if someone were to attack. Now I have nothing worth their time or attentions.â
âSo you were just a slave girl?â Yen asked, intrested in the woman's past and where she was from.
âYennefer,â Great growled in warning.
Naurel shook her head but forced a smile. âYes, I was just a lowly slave. I have no worth, no fortune, no talent, no usefulness really but I guess destiny wasnât done with me yet.
âDestiny is for frightened people who canât think for themselves. You make your own lot in life, your own choices that lead you where you end up. That is one thing Geralt and I agree on wholeheartedly. Fuck destiny.â
She thought about it for a moment and realized that Yen was likely right. If she had been stronger or better at something or just been a different person she would have likely been a different person in a different place. If sheâd just given in to the demands of the guards maybe she wouldnât be here now. She frowned when she felt Geraltâs hand on her left arm and Jaskierâs on her right.
âItâs time to stop for the night. Yennefer get down, Jaskier, hold her,â Geralt inclined his head toward Naurel.
Naurel frowned as Ciri reached out and took the reins from her. âWhat are you doing? I donât need anyone to hold me. Why are we stopping?â She hissed when Geralt pulled her down into his arms. âPut me down.â
âNo. You are wavering in the saddle barely able to hold yourself up. The fact that you donât realize it tells me just how bad it is.â He sat her down on the blanket Ciri laid out for them then sat behind her. He opened his kit then started to undo the back of her dress to check her wounds.
âHow can I help?â Jaskier asked as he knelt beside them.
Geralt frowned at the blood soaking the bandages on her back. âBring one of the water skins,â he told his friend.
Jaskier grabbed the waterskin Yennefer was getting ready to drink from and took it to Geralt. He knelt over one of the witcher's legs just in time to catch Naurel as she fell forward, too weak to hold herself up anymore. âEasy,â he soothed as she laid her head on his shoulder.
âIâm ok. We can keep going,â she insisted even though she was losing the battle to stay upright.
âYennefer, start gathering wood for a fire. Ciri, start setting up so we can heat some water,â Geralt ordered. His anger was getting the best of him. He didnât understand why Yennefer was acting this way. He just knew he had to get her out of his sight for a few minutes or he was going to snap.
âBossy witcher,â Yennefer sighed but went to gather wood.
âThatâs bad Geralt,â Jaskier said as he looked at Naurelâs back. âI thought Triss healed her.â
âShe did heal the worst of it.â He shared a concerned look with the bard and focused on his task. Once heâd examined every injury including her hip and leg he laid her back on the blanket with his cloak folded under her head then went to the fire to start mixing herbs into a tea to help with the infection.
The sun had long set and the stars were shining above the trees. Everyone was gathered around the fire eating some cured pork that they had gotten on their stop in town. Naurel groaned when Geralt lifted her upper body and sat behind her again. As much as she didnât want to she couldnât help but lean bodily into him for his comfort and warmth. âDrink this,â he said as he held the cup to her lips.
She took a sip and started coughing. âBy the Godâs it tastes like a frog's ass,â she sputtered.
Everyone laughed, even Geralt, which shocked the hell out of Jaskier. Heâd never even seen the witcher smile. âDrink,â Geralt chuckled.
âNo,â Naurel shook her head. A low rumble in his chest and a commanding âDrink,â made Naurel shiver and comply. How the hell did he do that?
âUm,â Jaskier spoke up, âHow do you know what a frogâs ass tastes like?â
This time Naurel choked from laughing. âI donât but itâs low to the ground, wet and slimy and covered in dirt so I assumed.â
Geralt put the cup aside when it was empty then ran his hands over her arms. âYouâre freezing.â
âItâs the ice in my heart,â she teased and she could feel him shake his head. After a moment she got to her feet.
âWhere are you going?â he stood with her.
âI have to go to the bathroom,â she told him. He took her arm to guide her. âUmm, no. You are not going with me to pee.â
Â
âYou are not going out there unprotected,â he argued.
She reached out and pulled the dagger from the belt on his side. âNow Iâm protected. If I need you then you will reach me quickly, you're a witcher.â She walked past Ciri who was about to stand, âYou arenât going with me either princess. There are some things a lady needs to do alone.â She heard Geraltâs displeased growl as she walked away from the fire and knew he didnât like it but he stayed put.
She went a bit farther than she intended but something seemed to be watching out for her because she found what she was looking for. There was a large willow tree and the withered husks of carvacrol plants near a small stream. The water had mostly iced over but still trickled in places. The weather had already caused the willow sap to draw back deep into the tree and the plants were long dead but she needed them if she had any hope of hiding her pain from her companions. Kneeling before the tree she took Geraltâs dagger, sliced across her left palm, and allowed the blood to drip on the tree and the plants below. â I call upon Sylvestris deus, keeper of the forest. I take only what I need and will heal your tree after. Please allow me this,â she pleaded. She felt when energy left her body and went into the tree and flowers. It was energy she really couldnât spare but she convinced herself it would be ok. The tree bark brightened and the flowers below bloomed purple. Carefully she harvested them, cutting the bark into small pieces and putting it all into a pouch that she had in her cloak before rubbing her still bleeding hand over the wounded tree and watching as it knitted back new, fresh bark. She quickly washed her hand and the dagger in the stream knowing sheâd been gone too long. Geralt was going to kill her. Sure enough, when she was halfway back he was searching for her and he wasnât happy. She held her hands up in surrender. âIâm sorry, I donât move as fast as I should right now. It took longer than I intended.â
He was relieved she was ok so he let it go this time. âIâm just glad you are safe,â he pulled her to him and hugged her.
âGeralt, I won't do anything stupid. You donât have to focus so much of your attention on me. I know you have other responsibilities.â She hated worrying him so much and was afraid that his attention would be focused on her and something would happen to Ciri.
âYou arenât a responsibility,â he told her as he leaned in and kissed the top of her head before he led her back to camp.
> ASK HOW TO GET TO RIVET
(previous)
[SYLVIA.] All right. I'd like to know how to find you. [RIVET.] oh sure! hmm. let me do a quick scan of the location. [RIVET.] okay, sylvia! all you need to do is walk out of that storage room and turn left, walk to the end of the hall, and turn right :D [SYLVIA.] ??? Wait, is that all? [RIVET.] yep! that's it. you WILL need to find a way around the mass in the hall way though.
The mass? Furrowing her brows, Sylvia walks out of the storage room - surprisingly, it's unlocked! It's really that easy.
Except it isn't, because there's a bunch of rubble from the ceiling caved in. Plants and moss sprout from the area, feeding off the artificial sunlight from lamps that are miraculously still working. This place is run down, bad. Clearly, whoever is managing this facility is either dead, missing, or horrible at management.
Sylvia sends Rivet another message as she stares at the rubble, utterly baffled.
[SYLVIA.] This? This is practically caved in. What happened here? [RIVET.] well ummm if i had to guess it probably relates to one of the earthquakes or whatever. i'm not really sure what it is. what do you know about helios-404? [SYLVIA.] Absolutely nothing, actually. As I indicated before, I don't have any long term memories. What can you tell me about Helios-404? [RIVET.] well, for starters, it's the name of this facility! a nasty, horrible place. i and several others were destined for the uh. the "long shutdown" if you will. :( [SYLVIA.] Come again? [RIVET.] you know? being disassembled? this is a disassembly plant, or a destruction facility, or whatever. or it USED to be. however you want to word it, it's where robots go to die. not a happy place u_u
Sylvia feels a wave of discomfort at the mention; death is a topic that's strange to robots like herself. Robots don't die in the same way organic life does, but that doesn't make the prospect of being eternally shut down sound any more pleasant. To have one's existence ceased, cut off forever, isn't particularly comforting.
For all she knows, that could be what nearly happened to her, and why her memories have been erased.
Right now, though, there's no time to dawdle. No time to dwell on the existential ruminations that would inevitably leave her with a digital headache she couldn't easily dispel. Right now? She's got a pile of rubble to deal with.
[SYLVIA.] Hey. [RIVET.] hiiii omg i thought i scared you girl [SYLVIA.] Why would you...? Oh. That disassembly thing? You don't need to worry about scaring me. The time that elapsed between messages was due to me observing this rubble. How do I get past it? [RIVET.] ok so. i doubt that the storage room you're in is carrying any kind of explosives to just easily blow it up :P [RIVET.] (plus that would destroy more and cause more rubble probably LMaOOO sorry im just thinking "out loud" about this rn) [RIVET.] buuut you could try the vents, maybe? or try climbing over the rubble if you're a nano or small enough to do that. idk. there's also this elevator on your end of the hallway. not sure if it's functioning, but you might be able to climb through the elevator shaft if the elevator's broken, come upstairs, and drop through into the room i'm in? :O [SYLVIA.] How would one drop into the room you're in? [RIVET.] there's a massive hole in the ceiling x) [SYLVIA.] I see. Well, then...
Sylvia stares up at the heap of rubble. Climbing up it might be challenging. It doesn't look like there are any gaps big enough to slip through it. If there are, it might lead to a risk of getting crushed. Traipsing around air vents might be dangerous too, and risking it in an abandoned elevator shaft doesn't seem great either. The elevator could be in working condition, but the power in this building seems... limited, at best. Overall, these options all sound terrible.
...Yet, Sylvia has no other choice, if she wants to meet up with her mysterious and talkative guide.
> TRY TO CLIMB THROUGH THE AIR VENTS
