Numb- Castiel x Winchester!Reader

A/N- HI ANON! Thanks so much for being my first ever request! I hope I did this ask justice. Thank you so much for reaching out, feel free to let me know what you think (and don't worry, your English is fantastic!) <3 Summary- Reader is Sam and Dean’s older sister. After a series of unfortunate events, she finds herself separating from her brothers to deal with her own shit the only way she knows how. Castiel, however, has a few things to say about it.  Warnings: Not a whole lot- less than canon level violence, some angst and hurt. A little bit of Cas love <3 -

It had been a hard few years for your family- let’s face, it, a hard few decades. After watching your brothers go through more trials, more heartbreak, more loss than anyone should ever go through in a lifetime, you were weary. Your sweet brothers, so young when they were thrust into this fight. You all were, of course- you were only 6 when everything changed on that fateful night in Kansas. The three of you had grown immeasurably close over all the years of hunting, and it was always your job to keep a watchful eye over the boys. 

You never could have expected what was to come for your brothers. They had faced so much more than you could’ve ever imagined. You were at their side every step of the way as a fierce protector and frequent caregiver. But Sam and Dean were always the eye of the storm- the chaos of the world circled firmly around the two of them. You were a side character time and time again. And that was okay- you played your role, you did everything you could to support your brothers as they went to hell and back. But when one too many demons started chirping in your ear, taunting that you were useless, that you being there only slowed them down, and when your brothers did a less-than-convincing job of assuring you otherwise, you decided you’d take a step back- get out of their way. 

The only way you could describe the feeling was numb. For nearly as long as you could remember, your whole purpose was to protect Sam and Dean, to do anything for them, to keep them safe. And now, you were cast aside, left without a role to play in their big fight. 

It took about a month for you to find your groove. At first you were lost, dodging calls from your brothers, holing up in dingy motels and dirty bars, unsure of what to do with yourself. That was until you heard of a case in the town over from where you were staying- a vamp nest that had been picking at the local population. So, armored only with your own recklessness and loss of purpose, you went in swinging, taking down the nest without so much as a scratch. That was the first time the numbness subsided long enough for you to feel anything. The pure unbridled hatred that coursed through your veins in that moment was the fuel that had been carrying your broken body for nearly six months now. 

Case after case after case. Hauntings and demons and vamps, a shifter, a werewolf or two. You had slashed through every adversary you could track down, careening down the coast and leaving a path of supernatural destruction in your wake. There was no time for breaks, and no need for them. If you let yourself sit with your thoughts for too long, there was no telling what you would do. 

Most recently, you had tracked down a demon with a particularly smart mouth. After being thrown around like a ragdoll and acquiring your fair share of bumps and bruises, you had trapped the demon and begun to exorcise him- but not before he could start talking. 

“Little brothers are lost without you, you know.” The demon gazed down upon you, flashing black eyes and a spreading grin. His tone was taunting, spiteful, designed to confuse and disorient you.

“You shut your goddamn mouth,” you retorted, dousing him in holy water. “You don’t know my brothers.” The latter half of your sentence came out as a whisper, and it was unlikely he had heard you over the sounds of his own screams. 

With the demon exorcised and thus the hunt complete, you soldiered back to your motel room for another night of restless sleep. The anger from the mention of your brothers was still coursing deeply inside of you. Were Sam and Dean really lost without you? Was the demon just saying that so you’d go home and get in their way again? Along with the deep gash that lined your left side and the likely dislocated shoulder, your body also carried with it a confusion and weariness you hadn’t felt since striking out on your own. Yet again, you were letting demons get into your head. 

Arriving at the motel, you unlocked the door and flicked on the buzzing fluorescent light to see a figure standing with their back turned from you. The presence felt deeply comforting and familiar, yet you still drew your gun in anticipation of attack.

“They’re looking for you, you know.” The low, gravelly voice rumbled, traveling slowly across the room as he turned to face you. Castiel. 

Your response was stalled as you processed his arrival. 

“I doubt it, Cas. It’s better to be out of their way. And you know it too.”

“You don’t understand, they were just trying to protect you, but it was not-”

“That’s MY JOB, Castiel. I protect THEM!” Your outburst took the angel slightly aback, drawing a look of concern to his face that you weren’t sure you had seen before. Still, you continued. “But if they don’t want me there to save the world with them, that’s fine. I’m still going to take out every other goddamn thing I can find in the meantime, to protect them the only other way I can.” 

“Y/N. Who protects you? What good do you do to anybody if you’re dead?” Castiel seemed desperate, growing heated in a way that felt out of his nature. 

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you protested as you cast your gaze away from him.

“Y/N, I have been watching you. I have been here with you many more times than you have realized. But you were too blinded by your own rage and hurt to see. I have done everything I could to protect you for this whole rampage, but this time I could not, and you got hurt.” The angel closed the gap between you as he spoke, grasping a hand around your arm and letting his grace seep into the wound. His proximity was close, and his grip was tight- it felt like he was holding on to you for fear of what would happen if he let you go. You felt the warmth of healing radiate through your extremities, and though it probably wasn’t from the grace, you could feel the comfort reach your heart.  

Your numbness had shifted. Before, it had always been cold and empty, sharp in a way. It was a numbness that begged to be filled, to be pushed away and stifled. But now, with Castiel’s presence, numb felt soft and warm. It relaxed your entire body and relieved you of tension stretching back further than you were even sure of. 

“Y/N, it is time to rest. You have been a soldier since you were only a child. You must let yourself be. You need to come home.”

This was a softer Castiel than you had come to know before you left. It was still Cas, of course- everything you had always loved so dearly about him, but he felt much more human. The concern in his eyes, the poignancy of his words, the way he so clearly loved and cared for you enough to watch over and protect you for months, all while dealing with his own world of problems. 

And he was right. You had run for too long, drowned out your problems and destroyed yourself in the process. All of the exhaustion, aches and pains seeped into you at once. There was nothing left in you to protest. 

“Okay,” you succumbed. “I’ll rest.”

“I’m glad. You can let me know if you need anything. I will listen in. Perhaps I can bring you home tomorrow, after you sleep.” Cas stepped back, getting ready to blip away, when you used the last bit energy in your system to reach back out to him.

“Wait.” You knew what you needed from him, but you were scared to ask. The room stood painfully still, Castiel’s blue eyes locking with yours in confusion, his gaze as intense as ever. 

“Will you please stay?” 

The broken whisper of your voice left nothing for you to hide. You had crumbled right in front of Cas’s eyes. Something inside him hurt, a sharp feeling in his stomach he hadn’t yet felt before. 

“Yes. I will stay,” he nodded with a deeply furrowed brow. 

So the two of you climbed into the motel bed, Cas hesitating but following your lead. Once you both had settled, he found himself melting into your touch. It felt much more natural than he ever would have thought. He had propped himself slightly upright, while your head met his chest and a leg wrapped one of his. His arm draped over you, rubbing gentle circles into your back, keeping time with the rhythmic heave of your breathing. It was peaceful, he had to admit. He understood why humans did this. 

Your own thoughts echoed that same satisfaction. Though there had been a guardian angel watching over you all along, you could finally rest now that you could feel his presence. It didn’t take long for you to drift off- the chance to just lay with Cas lulled you to sleep much faster than you had ever anticipated. As you slept, your grip around the angel tightened from time to time- like you subconsciously feared he would be gone when you woke up. 

Thankfully, Cas wasn’t going anywhere. It was about time someone was there to protect you.

You know roo, what I like most about you is that you're such a dedicated dark fic writer. You create various situations for reader where she ends up with horrible dudes. Like the backstory, the plot line everything is just mwah. The way you portray readers characters is fantastic. Cause I find readers personality matches with mine. So I always wait for your updates eagerly but patiently.

MADAME! I apologize for the significant wait, right after I asked that my summer went to hell, but I'm back and YES! I too was transformed by Big O and it's Dark Deco aesthetic! Yes, yes I do, and if I could animate...but for now, I write/draw. "Vous êtes si gentil" stays in my mind forever, just forever. And with that, we have come to terms!

PS: One quick thing! You know, it's funny. I got into your blog because of Saint's Row and the absolute fondness I had for your Boss/Player. I was always like "oh if this was a whole DLC with Oleg explaining his origins and Rosie was his boss in the Bratva, I'd play the hell out of this!" And then I found Dangerous Crowns and, quite frankly, lost my shit. You are a fantastic writer and I love the way you develop characters and intrigue! Stellar! omgg this is wild. i can't imagine doing a story without picking out at least a few songs to associate with it. in the past, i tended not to share those playlists with people, because privacy gave me permission to put, you know, ~cringe~ songs on them. but the VOW writers all shared our playlists when we were working on longsummer nights, and it was so fun to see how other people paired music with their work. 10/10 would subject my social circle to it again

   But that's how you found yourself completely wasted while he was still standing, albeit a bit more wobbly than before, or maybe it was just you that was wobbling around. 

   “Oop,” you yelp and giggle, stumbling through the crowd of people at the house. You couldn't even remember where you were, just that you needed to see him. The object of all your dreams and desires. JJ Maybank. 

   “Jayyy,” you slur his name, almost screaming, trying to overpower the loud music. “JJ!” 

   “All right. Can you sit down and shut up?” he asks, suddenly by your side, his arm around your waist to secure you in your stance. “Jesus Christ, you’really tryin’ to embarrass yourself tonight, aren't you, cupcake?” And if you had been less intoxicated you would've brushed off the harsh tone in his voice, you would've explained it away, but you couldn't. The alcohol had removed all and any kind of inhibitions that your brain usually held up for you. 

   “What the fuck’s that suppos’to mean?” you glare up at him, and he shakes his head, silently leading you towards the kitchen. 

   “You gotta drink water,” JJ says, taking a large bottle of water from the fridge and forcing you to drink it. 

   “JJ-” you try to speak, but before you can, you turn towards the sink and spit out half of the water you had just drunk. 

   “Fucking Christ, y/n! Do you wanna go to the ER and explain this shit to your parents? Was that the plan?” he snaps, audibly annoyed or more so disappointed and disgusted by your behavior. 

   “JJ, I have to tell you something,” you say while turning to look at him and the kitchen towel he's holding out to you. 

   “What is it?” 

   “Do you promise to not hate me if I tell you?” you give him a sweet look, and he nods, but something inside you, the last tiny bit of self-preservation, holds you back. 

   “Okay. I will tell you later,” you nod and take the bottle of water, making your way towards the dance floor. 

   JJ isn't pleased by how you act that night. You're his friend, and yet you act nothing like he knows you. All he knows is the shy girl that keeps to herself and only ever makes dirty jokes when no one but him is around. The girl that laughs at every joke he makes, even when he knows they are bad. The girl that looks at him like he's some kind of god, and not the son of a drunken deadbeat. The girl that had never had a boyfriend, because she was too preoccupied reading or talking herself down, than to actually notice all the great guys that had ever tried to get her attention. But JJ has never tried it, he knows he isn't worthy of her, knows he would just ruin her.

   “I'm sorry. I should go home,” you utter, trying to free yourself from his firm grip. 

“Let me drive you, it's the least I can do,” he offers, and you search his face for a lie or any ill intent, but you can't find any, so you nod. 

   The drive is silent and cold with the loose shirt you are wearing while trying to hold onto him on the back of his bike. 

   “That's it, right?” he asks after stopping in front of your house. 

   “Yes. Thank you,” you say and get off, stumbling towards your front door, but you can't open it as JJ holds it close with his hand above your head. 

   “What you said, what did you mean by it?” he asks, and you gulped before turning around to face him. 

   “I don't know,” you lie, for the first time that night you can think a little clearer, maybe that is because of the wind that slapped you in your face on the drive. 

   “What did you wanna tell me earlier?” he pressures. 

   “Why do you want to know?” 

   “Because I want to. Do I need a reason?” JJ tilts his head to the side, he's smiling, and you don't know why. 

   “I like you, but I know you will never like me, so we shouldn't- I mean, I should stop wishing for things that will never come true because that's just how it is for people like me. The wallflowers and nerds and geeks and-” you don't get to finish your sentence because JJ presses a kiss to your lips. 

   “Never say shit like that again, you're literally a dream girl, even drunk,” he assures you while flattening the hair on your head. 

   “I won't remember this,” you sigh, and he smiles. 

   “Well, if you do, tell me. If not, please don't tell me no when I ask you out next time, and don't ask who else is coming with,” he chuckles and with a single step back he leaves you to slip inside and wish you will remember only the last part of this night.

I haven't been into them for years now so I forget what its called. I like that a lot of the times with gose it (3/4) doesnt have a ton to do with their music its more just them as people having fun. I think that deff makes it super accessible to non kpop fans. not everyone likes kpop and that's fine, but lbh we all like a good show to watch. excited to hear your thoughts on the rice paddy ep!! Yes! honestly I can't imagine what but I know jun/the8/joshua are going to be up to some fantastic stuff while everyone else is away. I feel like if they do it in either two batches or even just one it would be best. I'm on the newer side to kpop so I don't really know all the bands that have enlisted and stuff but I got to know Shinee just this year post-enlistment and I realized how historic of a group they are, how there was no way they wouldn't still be popular post enlistment (and they have one more serving right now). And gather new fans like me even AFTER a big break. I hope Seventeen becomes that kind of historic (???: Let's go down in history) so that there's no question they survive enlistment. I know some other groups have gone and done it in rotation and so on, but idk if anyone has survived the lull with flying colors like Shinee did. I hope Seventeen is the next one to do it as well as Shinee.

My sister has been into kpop much longer than me and she used to really like BTS, and she said she used to love looking forward to BTS Run, but it all went downhill eventually. I think Seventeen really was lucky to meet people like 현석이 형 and 은송 누나 (like anybody who looks at 96's zodiac sign and decides they're going to make a whole challenge out of turning them into mice, those are people I can trust) and likewise the production team is lucky to meet a group like Seventeen who are down to do anything and are committed to the comedy. I guess that's one of the big reasons I am a pledis-supporter carat, just looking back at how much budget Pledis poured into hiring the production team for a literal variety show that doesn't have anything to do with the music (barely), like you said, and then it paying off within half a year, that's a company I can get behind.

Oh boy GoSe was so fun today. The opening was killer with them all just flopping into the field. And the highlights for me were definitely The8 and Jun being sleeper comedians like always and Woozi being especially cute and sensitive that day haha. There are some times when he's just chillin and happy (like Don't Lie 2) and sometimes he's like 에이! and starts fighting in his high-toned voice lol. It's so funny like all of vocal team sings in high voices but most of them have normal speaking voices except for Woozi, he actually has a high tone in his voice. 관장님! 감사합니다! also while it seems like GoSe production team cannot be beaten in terms of old variety show references, they constantly fail to identify old (not even that old) music references that SVT makes. They thought (and my baby kpop fan self thought) that the song Jun sang was something he made up but carats pointed out on twitter that it's a tvxq song...

Firstly to start off with, ummm a white kurtan, yes please, I know this bitch looks good whatever hes wearing, so it dont matter, BUT THE BLACK TANK TOP OOFFFF YOU BETTER STOP, ITS NOT GOOD FOR MY HEALTH. Basically I'm just gonna skim read it again and just give you my thoughts and any feedback, if that's okay with you, you can ignore this if you want to, I completely understand. Ok to start off with, the exposition was really good, you've set the tone and introduced the Ackerman family really beautifully. When I read it initially the fact that Levi did not want a family or to get married was quite emphasised upon to me, and I'm really looking forward for the inevitable development and how his view changes as the chapters go on. I also love how you introduced Farlan and Isabel, and lightly touched upon how they met, you didnt go into too much detail and I really like that, it kept me focused on the actual story itself, which is about Levi and not Farlan. And Farlan wanting tto marry her 😢😢. I think it's really really sweet and I cant wait to see more of them. I love it so much.

The transition from setting the scene to their father being poisoned was not something I was expecting and made me go oh shit he dead. Part of me felt like it was moving too quick, but the other part of me loved the shock factor of it since it happened so suddenly. I didnt think of it as too big of an issue though, it was still enjoyable to read.

The whole encounter with the peasant guy made me wonder just how many more people there are like him, that dislike the Ackermans and would try to kill them. And whether y/n would be one of them. Also I got a bit confused as to who was speaking whether it was Farlan or Levi, but I read the sentence again and it was fine, I understood, so maybe I was just being a dumb bitch.

Oooh a quick point Levi sympathising with the criminal was really touching and made me feel warm and gooey. It shows that hes not a dick and does actually care about his people. But it also shows he has clear boundaries and is really firm. He will make a great leader in the future.
