My dog is called Lemon Pie; we always call her Pie. I never expected her to become Cherry.

Pie was a high school graduation gift. My parents went to the farmer's market for a flower bouquet and a corsage, and returned with no food for the week and a tiny little pie.

She looked like a Maltese, but back then, she resembled an old rag doll and was the size of a cup of tea, fully covered with my favorite hobby. After speeches and hugs, after pictures, I sat to kill fifty fleas passing by.

Years went by; I started college, finished it, moved out, moved in, got jobs, and quit them all. One day, in my hometown, my sister Isidora and her own dog, Haru, who was a war general in another life, now a fully five-pound Cotton de Tulear with a temper and a grandeur complex, went for a walk.

was a phone call from an unknown number, screams telling my dad to pick her up, a cherry jam trail, Isidora sitting in the dark of a clothing store garage, Haru shaking in the car, the speed limit passing by.

She was in my arms in the ride, and right there, she looked up to me, and I almost laughed. The dog tore the skin off, peeling her like an orange but didn't cut meat or bone. She was happy, and I thought she didn't have meringue anymore.

I had never seen a more pampered patient. She was in surgery for five hours. I remember feeling guilt over my lack of fear or disgust, but she looked the whole time like she was having fun, being the centre of attention and all. The nurses told us she didn't sleep in the cage; she slept on everyone's arms the whole day. Cherry pie underneath the white coat.

Offender: Honestly? A Wolf. He loves big strong animals and Wolves are so fluffy!

Gentle: Some fancy dog, one that matches his 18th-century victorian style.

Tender: Sloth or Child. Just something to cuddle, especially if its fluffy.

Surrender: Probably a service dog or hamster, maybe a ferret if Slender lets him.

Splendour: UNICORN! ...no? okay, a Stallion will do.

Zalgo: He already has a pet, his three-headed hell dog. (totally not named fluffy bun)

Hoodie: A Dove, to represent his old self that ‘died’

Masky: A Jay, to represent his friend Jay, who didn’t survive the Operator.

Toby: FERRET. That is all he’s ever wanted.

Ben: A Mutt like the ones in the Zelda games, just something to remind him of the good version of the nightmare he remembers.

Dark Link: A Horse, Maybe a parrot too. He’s always wanted one and seeing Breath of the Wild link get a horse, he feels jealous.

Puppeteer: Sloth or Monkey, probably. Perhaps a snake, like a cute little corn snake.

Lulu: Golden Retriever, she wanted one as a kid but her parents couldn’t afford one so she would be over the moon to get one!

Jane: Savannah Cat, or Linx. Just generally any cat, she really loves them.

It was fine, really. It didn’t bother him. At all. Although she could have been slightly less overt in the fact she was ignoring him. Made it seem like she was just completely shoving him aside like it didn’t even matter.

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t fine.

“Carlyle, you’re doing that weird thing,” W.D. said next to Phillip. “Are you jealous?”

“No.” Phillip snorted, pulled some ridiculous face as he tried to affect a calm demeanor. Only to completely fail. “Why would I be jealous?”

W.D. broke out laughing, leaning against Phillip’s shoulder while he tried to collect himself. “You should never go into acting, your faces are so stupid.”

“No one asked you,” Phillip groused. At this point it was just adding insult to injury.

“I’m just offering up some advice.” He was still laughing when he turned to his sister, crouched on the floor of his apartment. “Hey, I think it’s time to share the puppy or else your husband might start crying.”

“Screw you, W.D! I’m not a child!”

Anne looked up at them, W.D’s new Coton de Tulear puppy clutched to her chest. The puppy was on the smaller side, likely the runt of the litter, and truly looked more like a cotton ball than a dog aside from the smudge-marked ears.

“No,” Anne shook her head. “She’s mine. You’re going to come home with me, and we’re going to play all the time, and who needs stupid boys?”

“You’re not stealing my dog,” W.D. said. No one was sure where the puppy had come from, actually. She had just appeared on the stoop of his apartment building one day without tags or a chip. After failing to find her owners, he had decided to keep her.

W.D. grabbed her from his sister’s hands and all but shoved her at his brother-in-law. “Here, play with the puppy.”

The puppy seemed fine with the change in people, sniffing at Phillip gently before starting to lick his chin happily. Phillip took it in stride.

“Yes, thank you for the kisses,” he said blandly.

“Phillip?” Anne sang, sidling up next to him.

“No,” he said.

“You don’t even know what I was going to say.” She reached out, scritched the puppy’s ears.

“You were going to ask if we could get a dog.”

“Why can’t we?” She pouted. “Look how cute she is.”

“Because the condo association are sticklers about pets in the building.”

“Then we’ll move!”

“We’re not moving just to get a dog.” He held out the puppy to Anne. “Besides you wouldn’t want to make your fur-niece to get jealous, would you?”

“You people are weird.” W.D. took his dog, walked to the kitchen for her dinner. Anne pouted again once the puppy was out of sight.

Phillip rolled his eyes. “I’ll think about it,” he said. Anne grinned, surged forward and pressed a kiss to his cheek.

This is Fly and I’s dog, Plushie.

She is the scourge of our neighborhood and every time we walk her we can’t converse with our neighbors bc she hates literally everyone 😭 AND ALL OF THE DOGS ARE AFRAID OF HER 😭
