I can't believe I have been studying for a month. Comparison is truly the thief of joy. I am a slow learner, but that's okay. Find a community because it truly does make a difference. Summary: When your FWB relationship with your best friend Bucky Barnes turns into something more, you couldn’t be happier. That is, however, until a new Avenger sets her sights on your super soldier and he inadvertently breaks your heart. A/N: So, I have this thing where, I'll write the angst, but then I'm like "no, I want you to be happy!" and then I'll write something like this, which is only just a band aid on their relationship for more angst to come. Sorry :( But, also, relationships and emotions aren't linear. We might know things aren't going well, but if we see even a hint of improvement, we latch onto it in the hope that it means things are getting better, even if it's just a temporary blip. About forty minutes later, you walked into Gino’s looking like sin on legs. You’d made up your mind that you were going to stake your claim on your boyfriend tonight, in front of Jade and the entire team, but especially Bucky, once and for all. You were a little dizzy from the emotional whiplash you’d been putting yourself through of late, but you’d realized he was worth the chance of being hurt, and you loved him too much to not fight tooth and nail for him, and you would do so, until he told you himself that he didn’t want you anymore.

You’d chosen a pair of skin tight black leather pants that sat low on your hips and a sheer golden top with a matching satin cami underneath it. You’d left your bra at home. A pair of high, strappy gold stiletto heels completed the look, and with your hair flowing loose and curly down your back, you caught the attention of every man within line of sight as you made your way to the back of the bar.

“Jesus Christ, Pocket,” Nat said once you reached the tables at the back that your team usually secured for themselves. The redhead pulled you in for a hug, whispering in your ear as she did so: “Barnes isn’t going to be able to control himself when he sees you.”

“That’s the idea, Natty,” you said with a grin, taking the shot she offered you and throwing it back. “I’m playing for keeps tonight.”

Your friend smiled at you and motioned toward the jukebox. “Then I say ‘batter up’ because opposing teams’ already taken the field.”

You glanced in the direction she’d indicated and narrowed your eyes. Jade was dancing with Bucky. Or, at least, she was trying to dance with him. It was almost comical, really, the way she tried to grind up against him, yet he kept trying to put space between their bodies as he shuffled awkwardly from side to side. Your heart softened as you watched him resist her. He was being polite about it– of course he was, he was Bucky, after all, but his resistance was firm.

“I better go save him,” you told Nat as you put down the shot glass. “I’ll see you later.” You sauntered over to the makeshift dance floor, putting some extra sway in your hips as you did so. 

“Mind if I cut in?” you asked, your voice extra sultry. Not even waiting for a response, you positioned your body between Jade and Bucky’s, and were immediately rewarded with the feeling of his hands gripping your waist as he tugged you to him. 

“God damn, doll,” Bucky said as you wrapped your arms around his neck, pressing your body against his, “how’d you expect me to behave myself all night when you’re standin’ there lookin’ good enough to fuckin’ eat?”

You grinned up at him, toying with the hair at the nape of his neck. “I don’t expect you to behave at all, Sergeant,” you purred. “In fact, I’m quite hoping you won’t.”

Bucky’s eyes visibly darkened at your words, and he took his bottom lip seductively between his teeth. You were both leaning in for a kiss when you felt an impatient tap on your shoulder. You knew without turning who it was going to be. 

With a roll of your eyes, you turned your head just enough to see Jade standing next to you, arms crossed over her chest, the anger on her face making her uglier than you’d ever seen her.

“Um, hello? Rude much? We were dancing.”

“Is that what that was?” you asked, turning so you had your back to Bucky’s front. You could feel the hard length of him pressed against your ass as you ground into him in time with the music. Taking his hands, you slid them under the fabric of your shirt so he could caress your bare skin. His rough fingers felt like heaven as they moved up and down the planes of your abdomen, dancing scandalously close to the underside of your breasts. You felt Bucky’s breath hitch when he realized you weren’t wearing a bra.

“If you’re that mad, why don’t you go live stream about it?” you said. “The adults are busy.”

“Bucky!” Jade whined, turning to him. “Are you going to just let her talk to me that way?!”

Your heart seemed to still, and it felt like time stopped while you waited on Bucky’s response, though in actuality, he answered her almost instantly: “You heard my girl, Vix. We’re busy.”

You closed your eyes, leaning your head back against him. His dismissal of her was like an aphrodisiac that sent wetness pooling into your panties. The sexiest thing you’d ever heard. With this new access to the exposed side of your neck, Bucky began to place wet, open mouthed kisses along your skin. God, you hoped he left marks. You wanted him to claim you, to let the world know you were his. You moaned his name as you reached your arm up to hold the side of his head, urging him to use more pressure and were rewarded almost immediately when you felt the sweet sting of his teeth as he nipped at the sensitive flesh of your skin, followed by the instant soothing sensation of his tongue against the love bites.

You heard Jade scoff, but didn’t open your eyes to see if she walked away or remained; you were too absorbed in the sensation of Bucky all around you for her to matter. You lost yourself in the feel of him, no concept of how much time went by as the two of you moved together to the beat of the music.

He eventually turned you around so you were facing each other once again. You tried to slide your hands up under the hem of his shirt, to feel the firmness of him, but gave an exaggerated pout when you were met with the resistance of it being tucked into the waistband of his jeans. 

“You tryin’ to undress me right here, sweets?” he asked, giving you a playful grin.

“Don’t give me any ideas, Buckaroo,” you hummed, opting instead to grab two generous handfuls of his ass. You were going to sink your teeth into that later.

“You know,” he said, leaning in close to speak directly into your ear, “I’ve been thinking: now that Vix’s gonna be out on missions, my schedule’s gonna clear up a lot. Maybe we should take that trip we talked about. Spend some time alone, just the two of us, like we used to. I miss you.”

Your face fell. You’d love nothing more than to reconnect with Bucky, away from all outside influences, but with the upcoming presentation of the crisis algorithm system looming before you, the timing couldn’t be any worse. “I can’t, Buck,” you told him sadly.

He pulled back, away from you, a new, hard glint to his eye. “Can’t,” he asked, “or won’t?”

“Come on, Buck,” you pleaded, trying to put his arms back around you, but he refused, stepping further away, “we were having a great time; I don’t want to fight.”

“Were we having a great time, Pocket?” he asked, his teeth now clenched. “I may be old, but I’m not stupid. I know you’re pulling away from me.”

You sighed. It seems like you were going to have this out right here in the bar. “Come with me,” you said, taking his hand and leading him toward the bathrooms.

As you passed the rest of your team, an obviously inebriated Sam raised his beer glass and winked at you both. “Yeah, get it, Tin Man!” he shouted, completely misconstruing the purpose of your journey to the bathroom as Bucky flipped him off. “Didn’t realize you liked it that dirty, Baby Girl!” You rolled your eyes, ignoring him as you made your way to the men’s bathroom. Checking to make sure each stall and urinal was empty, you locked the door behind you.

Bucky raised a brow at your choice of gendered bathroom. “What?” you shrugged. “Figure dudes’ll be more than willing to have pissing contests in the alley if they can’t get in here.”

You could see him struggle to fight the smile that threatened to cross his otherwise annoyed features. You always did know how to make him laugh.

“I’m not going to have sex with you,” he said, sounding petulant. 

“For once, that’s not why I dragged you into a bathroom,” you said, hoisting yourself up onto the sink counter once you’d checked it to make sure it was free from… well, whatever one might find in a men’s restroom. “I want to talk. Come here.” You beckoned him over with a crook of your finger, and like a fish on a hook, he crossed the room until he was standing in front of you.

You sighed. You didn’t want to do this now, but you were tired of lying to him, lying to yourself. You wanted your relationship back, and now was just as good a time as any to set things straight. “I wanna start by saying that the reason I can’t go away on vacation with you right now,” you said, making sure to emphasize the words, “is that I’m presenting to the Stark Industries Board of Directors in less than two weeks. I still have a lot to do to get ready.

Bucky tilted his head and narrowed his eyes. “For your crisis prediction algorithm?” You nodded. Bucky’s eyes widened, impressed. “Doll, that’s amazing! But… I thought you said it was nowhere near being ready for demonstration?”

You swallowed. “We’ve been beta testing for awhile now,” you said, not meeting his eye. Normally, Bucky was obsessed with your work, keeping track of every fascinating detail, but with Jade monopolizing so much of his time recently, he’d stopped asking how things with your pet project were coming along. But you didn’t bring him here to make him feel bad. 

“I haven’t been paying enough attention to you,” he said softly. He reached out and held your face, tilting your head up so you would look at him. 

You shrugged your shoulders. “You’ve been busy,” you told him.

“I’ve been an ass,” he said. He took a deep sigh before coming closer, wrapping you to him. “I keep being an ass, and I keep hurting you, when I swore I never would.”

“I know you don’t mean to,” you reassured him. “But, you were right… I have been… pulling away.”

Bucky backed up to study you, his face gone white with worry. “Are you… Do you… Have I fucked this up completely? Do you not want me anymore?” If you had been standing, the desperation in his voice would have brought you to your knees.

“Baby, no!” you exclaimed, pulling his hand to your chest. “I did it because I was scared. I’m so scared I’m going to get my heart broken in all of this that I started putting my walls back up. I thought that, if I could act like your friendship with Jade didn’t bother me, didn’t drive me crazy with jealousy, then maybe I would eventually believe it. But all it ended up doing was push me away from you, and that’s not what I want. I want to fight for you. Fight for us.”

“Is that what this is, then?” he asked, indicating your outfit, hair, and makeup. “Is this some kind of offensive strategy in your battle against Vix where I’m, what– a prize?” He seemed… disgusted by the idea.

“No!” The word was out of your mouth before you even had a chance to think. “Not at all. I did all this because I wanted to look good for you. I know I’m never going to compete with her in terms of sexiness; I wouldn’t even try.”

“Huh,” said Bucky, running his hand through your hair. “And all this time I thought you were the smart one.” When you looked at him in confusion, he added: “Because that was the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Doll, when it comes to sexy, she doesn’t hold a candle to you. No one does.”

“Pfft,” you scoffed, turning your face away from him in embarrassment as color stained your cheeks. “You have to say that because you’re my boyfriend.”

“Sweetheart,” Bucky took a step closer to you, “I have to be your boyfriend because that’s how I feel. If this,” he took your hand in his and placed it over the hard bulge of his erection, “doesn’t prove that to you, I don’t know what will.”

You took a moment to palm him through his jeans, remembering back to a time when you relished the effect you had over him, not doubting it. “Are we good?” you whispered. 

“We are very, very good,” he said, leaning down to kiss you. You gripped onto the front of his shirt, slipping your tongue into his mouth. When he moaned into your lips, you felt yourself clench around nothing.

“Bucky,” you gasped, coming back up for air.

“Yeah, doll?” His eyes were blown, expression delirious with his lust for you. It was intoxicating. 

“You still opposed to bathroom sex?”

Bucky threw his head back and laughed, igniting even more desire within you. “I’m not, but I’d rather take you home, lay you out naked on our bed, all open and pretty for me. Let you be as loud as you want when I make you scream my name.”

Your entire body shivered at the picture his words painted, and you nodded stupidly. “Yeah,” you said, swallowing thickly , “yeah, that sounds way better. Let’s go do that.”

Bucky picked you up from the counter and gently placed you back on the floor. Putting his hand protectively on the small of your back, he led you to the door, unlocking it and walking you back into the bar.

When you made your way back to your group’s designated tables, you were surprised to find everyone staring at you in anticipation. Tony stood in the center of the group, a wide smile on his face as he raised his arms wide open, tumbler of alcohol in his hand. “Pocket, Barnes!” he cried when he saw you emerge from the hallway leading to the restrooms. “The people demand to know! ‘What the ‘F’ Was It’?”

You buried your face into Bucky’s side to hide your laughter. Once again, your sex life had become the topic of group conversation. When had this become your normal?

“I think the ‘fucks’ have it!” Tony declared after taking in your smudged lipstick and messy hair. You watched in mock horror as Nat and Sam gave each other a double high five.

“Why do we put up with this?” you muttered to Bucky.

“Stark’s superior insurance coverage?” he suggested with a grin. You smirked back up at him before turning back to your friends.

“Sorry to disappoint, again,” you said, raising your voice to be heard over the din of the bar. “We did neither fucking nor fighting, so…” You shrugged your shoulders.

“Don’t tell me I missed out by not going with frottage again,” Nat moaned dejectedly. You laughed as you shook your head. 

“Very well,” said Thor. “It was not fornication, nor this frottage, nor fighting– sorry, little Fox Girl.” You raised an eyebrow as your gaze found Jade, who looked particularly put out, much to your amusement. “Let us guess!”

Your friends began shouting out answers, and they ranged from the vulgar (“‘Finger banging’!” “Oh my God, Tony! Gross!”) to the inappropriate (“‘Fertilization,’ you know, like puttin’ a baby in her!” “Clint, how’s he gonna do that without ‘fucking’?!”) to the perfectly tame (“‘Fraternization.’” “Boo, Rogers; you’re no fun!”) to, thankfully, nothing at all (“I hate this game.” “Nobody asked you, Rhodes!”).

“Frenchin’!” Bucky shouted after a moment with a snap of his fingers. Everyone turned and stared at him like he’d just grown a second head. “What?” he asked as a blush crept up his cheeks. “We talked, then we made out. Just took me a minute to think of ‘French kissin’, is all,” he finished in a mumble. 

“And with that,” you said, walking over to the booth where Bucky had stashed his two motorcycle helmets, “we are going home. Make of that whatever the ‘F’ you will.” Tony positively cackled at that.

“That’s my girl!” he gasped, clutching his sides. 

You didn’t even try to suppress your grin as you tossed one of the helmets to Bucky. Tucking the other one under your arm, you made your way over to him. “Ready to go, soldier?” you asked.

“With you?” he said, putting a hand around your waist and giving you a mischievous wink. “Always.”

Before you could even make it three steps toward the door, your path was blocked by Jade, who stood before you, chest heaving and fists clenched at her sides. “Hey,” she said, clearly upset, “what about me?!”

You took a step back, curious to see how Bucky was going to handle the situation.

He sighed heavily. “What about you, Vix?”

“You drove me here! How am I supposed to get home if you’re driving her?”

“Stark hired cars,” he told her, trying to steer you both around her, but the girl wouldn’t give up her ground. “Get a ride with everyone else.”

“But I wanna ride back with you,” she said, her voice a desperate whine that made you cringe internally. God, how had you been so jealous of someone who acted like such a child?

He just shrugged in her general direction as he finally guided you both around her. “Sorry, Vix; not this time.”

You couldn’t resist turning around to give her a parting smile as you walked out the door. When you turned around to follow Bucky, though, you could feel Jade’s stare boring a hole through your back.

sunny grew up in an asian household, and not to mention his parents favorited his sister. so he's faced his fair share of hurtful comments or impossible standards

although, he hasn't really gotten it to the extent you have, and he's a little. concerned.

like when he first hung out at your place and he heard your mother call you names and berate you,, he got really nervous and awkward

he really doesn't like arguing, and for many other reasons you two sort of decided it would be best to not chill at your place

but it doesn't mean he ignores it!!! he thinks about your parents all the time, and is kind of scared to pry but he asks about it for your safety

you two spend a lot of time at his house!!!! he prefers to not go outside and seeing as your parents erm. aren't the greatest, his house is usually empty and so it's perfect for hanging out!!!!

he never pries to the point of making you uncomfortable, but he is very worried. he'll constantly try to be there for you and lend an ear, as he knows your parents aren't the best listeners.

if you text him that your parents are being loud or yelling at you, he'll send you songs he likes for you to listen to to distract you and texts u constantly to keep you company

AUBREY

it. really pisses her off.

she had incredibly neglectful parents, and her mother would even get physical when drunk

so she knows what abuse is like. that's why although it angers her whenever she hears your parents degrade you, she never talks back to them or anything. she knows that would only end up worse for the both of you

although, she does express it a lot when you two are alone.

"dude, your parents are dicks, Y/N."

she's fully aware you're only playing it off for everyone's sake, but she never really talks about it. she knows how much it sucks for someone to call out a facade cough cough

she'll get you little trinkets or send you images of things that you like or that remind her of you throughout the day to hopefully cheer you up

her house isn't really available for hanging out either, so you guys often go to the lake or get pizza at GINO's, or just chill with the hooligans at the park

she never judges you for it, and tries to subtly let u know that she's there to listen whenever you need it. she wants to offer support that you otherwise don't really have

KEL

when your parents start saying shit at dinner, he looks kinda awkward and tries to change the subject. like if they started comparing you to him he'd be like "oh, haha i actually look up to Y/N! you raised an amazing kid :)"

he might dislike your parents, but he's always respectful of parents in general. he was always taught to respect his elders!!!

and then when you two leave the house he looks at you like a dejected kicked puppy

"man.. your parents are really something, huh?"

kel had only really been insulted by his parents during arguments or whenever he did something wrong, whereas he'd get spanked with a shoe and berated. they didn't verbally degrade him often, but they emotionally neglected him a lot.

he feels real bad for you, but he tries not to bring it up often. he knows it's a sensitive subject, he can tell by how you constantly say it's normal and it's just how they are

kel wants to wait until you're ready to talk about it. he doesn't push it, he wants you to come to him whenever you're comfortable!!

lots of walks and playing sports to get out of the house. he is constantly treating you to pizza at GINO's, and his family loves you to death!!!!! hero sees you as a little sibling and is always teasing kel about you

HERO

he tries his best to be respectful around your parents. he honestly wants to punch their faces in but he will not admit that

it concerns him when you lie and say it's nothing, but he doesn't push it often. sometimes he'll let you know you can be honest with him and that he's there to listen

with most parents, hero automatically wins them over and always tries to be polite and kind. but he doesn't really bother to get your mother roses or strike up conversation with your dad. he just can't really be comfortable around them

hero's family is very welcoming, so he'll always invite you over for dinner and his mother is asking constant questions!!! kel bugs you and jokingly asks why on earth you'd date someone like hero

(this earned him a smack on the head from both his mother and hero)

gets you gifts and flowers often, and leaves encouraging notes and compliments. he really doesn't want you to feel bad about yourself,, he knows it must be hard having parents like that

has a bit of a hard time finding words if you break down or cry, so he holds you in his arms and rubs your back.

MARI

similar to hero, your parents make it hard for her to control her anger. they're just so!!!!!&!!$&$ she has a general level of respect and awareness though, so she never really says anything

if she's at your place, she tries to be quiet but eventually can't take it and stands up for you.

"you should be a little easier on them. they've been doing quite well in school lately." she says, crossing her arms.

unfortunately this led to her getting kicked out, but she didn't really regret it

if you're ever feeling down about your grades or yourself in general, she's immediately showering you with compliments and encouragement. mari can't stand seeing you doubt how much you mean to her

i think mari has had a complicated relationship with her father, so she isn't a stranger to arguments and general mean comments and berating. part of why she's such a perfectionist is because her father pushed her,, so she's a bit of a hypocrite when saying you shouldn't let your parents dictate what you do

she's very supportive of wherever you want to go in life, always helping you practice and follow your dreams no matter what!!

always taking you out for picnics and dates!!! you spend a lot of time with the group to get away from things for awhile

Psycho-Pass Providence Review (with major spoilers!!! Don’t read if you don’t want spoilers!!)

As promised, I went to see Psycho-Pass Providence at Nijo Toho Cinemas in Kyoto. They had a little merch at the theater. They also gave everyone a booklet with artwork that I’ll include at the end of this review. If you want to wait until you can see the movie, please stop reading now because I will be basically telling everything that happened, good and bad. I was glad to see more people coming to watch the movie because when I bought the tickets most seats were available! We are a small fandom, but we are loyal! Now, please understand I don’t know any Japanese, so a lot of the information here is things that happened, but I can’t tell you much about the dialogue. I’m dying for someone to translate it once the movie becomes available everywhere.

Spoilers below:

The movie starts in a ship off the coast of Kanagawa, Japan, that is being attacked by the infamous peace breakers led by Akira Ignatov, Kei’s strange brother. The men in the ship are SAD agents that are getting murdered left and right. What do the peacebreakers want? Get something from a woman named Stronoyka who is currently traveling in the ship. From the synopsis we know this woman holds a dossier that details how to destroy Sibyl (or something of the sort, can’t quite remember). Kogami is the first on the scene in a suit reminiscent of a flying squirrel, but unfortunately, he’s too late. He looks hot as hell though when he jumps in the water.

The intro with a song by Ling Tosite Sigure had me excited to be watching a Psycho-Pass movie in a movie theater and surrounded by Japanese fans of the movie. It was sweet!

To skip ahead, SAD and the MWPSB have to work together. Akane, Kogami, Ginoza, Sugo, Saiga and Frederica travel to Dejima to investigate, I think. Let’s get to the meat of what the fandom wants to know.

Kogami and Ginoza Reunited

Akane is talking to Frederica and as they’re walking towards Division 1 office, they find Ginoza grabbing Kogami by the collar and yelling at him while Sugo is trying to separate them. What was Ginoza saying? No idea, but he was probably getting back at Kogami for leaving or coming back, etc.

At some point, however, Kogami and Ginoza fight together against their enemies. There seems to be some will for reconciliation.

Akane and Kogami Reunited

Akane walks in the room with Frederica when Gino is yelling at Kogami. Ko says “Kanishkan” at some point, so I think he’s addressing Akane, but her reaction is…should I say, enigmatic? Indifferent? Maybe she’s controlling herself?

SAD and the aforementioned team travel together to Dejima, and Akane and Kogami barely talk on the way. Once there, Saiga and Kogami talk and at some point they mention Akane. Later Akane calls Kogami while he’s in his room. They both sound like they disagree about something or like something is awkward between them and Akane hangs up on him, surprising him.

The thing about this movie is that they gave Akane the cutest outfits. Especially one in a very crucial moment. I’m so glad they made her look so cute and beautiful in the movie.

At some point the infamous peacebreakers begin their attack, and in the famous explosion scene, Frederica, Saiga, Kogami and Akane are walking down a hallway when an explosion goes off. Kogami doesn’t even think once about protecting Saiga or Frederica, he straight up runs to Akane and they fall to the ground. There are some lines of dialogue here while he’s laying on top of her. This is the part when Akane gets her bruised cheek.

In another scene, after Akira basically gives himself up, Kogami is interrogating him and then another guy shows up and shoots at them. Kogami gets shot and he ends up in the hospital. Akane visits him and when he makes to start smoking, she takes the cigarette off his mouth. There’s a moment here where it seems like he’s teasing her, because he sits up on his bed and kinda leans towards her. Very cute moment between them.

Saiga

Saiga and Kogami have a long talk about many things (I assume, remember, I don’t know any Japanese) but at some point they mention Akane.

A very sad, traumatic moment for Akane. They get attacked by a specially unkillable peacebreaker and Saiga ends up being held hostage by the guy. In the last moment, what we feared happens. Saiga’s last words are for Akane. Our poor girl suffers a lot and Kogami is there to console her and help her push through. They look so good together!

Akira, Kei, Maiko, Arata and Arata’s Dad

Honestly, most of the plot escapes me. Akira at some point even fights himself. He seems to be controlled by an old man who appears to be creating his own version of Sibyl. Akane is actually invited to Kei and Maiko’s wedding and on the same night Arata’s dad, with whom she seemed to have a very good relationship (there’s a lot of dialogue between Arata’s dad and Akane), killls himself while holding a photo of his family.

Craziness Ensues

Akane agrees to meet the mastermind behind all these terror attacks while a tactical team formed by Frederica, Gino, Kogami and Sugo fighting lasers from the air attack the headquarters of the peacebreakers. Here we see for the first time the two old dudes that become obsessed with Kogami in Season 3.

While everyone is fighting and there are explosions and shooting everywhere, Akane has a dialogue with the mastermind. At some point she draws her dominator but his crime coefficient is around 40. The whole place begins to collapse and by then, the mastermind has shot Akane on the leg and has her cuffed. They discuss and debate when he shoots her again (that asshole!). By the time Kogami shows up to rescue her, the other man is pointing his gut right at Akane’s forehead while they debate. At some point Akane says something that irks the guy and he pistol whips her a little bit. Kogami shoots him and gets her out of there.

The craziest plot twist

They show Akane dressed in a ceremonial uniform (and she looks so beautiful!) while Kogami is confined to an isolation facility. He begins reading a letter she wrote to him. They show her at a ceremony where it seems she will be recognized for her achievements. It is here when Akane shoots Chief Kasei in front of everyone.

They show Mika running to arrest Akane for her crime and she yells at Akane with frustration for what she did. Akane offers no resistance. As Kogami is reading the letter he looks angry, frustrated and sad for what Akane did. Why did she do it? We will have to wait until someone translates the movie.

Akane’s face is plastered all over the news as the inspector who went crazy and killed her boss. They show a parallel of Kogami walking out of the isolation facility while Akane is walking in. They don’t cross paths, but once Akane is alone she completely breaks down sobbing uncontrollably. It was so sad to see her suffer like that! Then they show Kogami walking free on the street and he says something and then the movie ends. Did Akane go to jail because of Kogami?

I’ll write more thoughts tomorrow! Overall it was well made. Lots of CGI and explosions almost made me think at times that I was watching a Transformers movie.

Psycho pass headcanons because I Im obsessed:

Akane keeps her hairstyle the same bc she wants Kogami to recognize her right away if they ever meet again (and it’s low maintenance)

Ginoza gets panic / anxious sometimes but being with / thinking about his dog helps him calm down

Ginoza sleeps with his dogs in the same room as him. He brushes them every week, feeds and exercises them a particular way, and overall has a strict care schedule. Treats his pet like royalty. Dogs are a huge soft spot for him

When he runs out of liquor Ginoza actively goes out of his way to buy the exact brand and style that his dad left him

Kogami drink black coffee because it reminds him of his old professor

Kagari liked sports and got rly into it whenever he’d watch them on tv

Risa is in general uncomfortable around males, but has a soft spot for Ginoza and considers him her best friend

Kogami can’t dance 😭 he think he can but no.

Kagari and Gino are the opposite. They actually dance quite well but either don’t want to (Kagari) or are too shy(Gino)

When the girls of the agency have sleepovers they invite ginoza solely because they want to braid and style his hair

Akane is ace or/and demisexual

Gino is also Demi and/or bi

Mika is very insecure and it’s the reason she takes out her frustration and annoying anger on others (side note: she annoys me sooo much the first 12 episodes she’s in I’m so glad she’s chilled out a bit by szn 3)

Gino and akane think of Kogami whenever they are sad or need motivstion( lowkey this is canon tho based on flashbacks etc)

Kogami cleans countertops by yeeting crumbs onto the floor 😭😭 this drives akane crazy

This could be shouting, insults, beatings, pressure from grades and much more, in principle, how strong the cruelty will be is not very important to me, although I would like to at least get to small beatings, severity, insults and screams (I just have similar situation), but do it as you want. Bandages and some much needed comfort | Omori

Characters: Hero and Kel

A/N: Okay. First off, I am so sorry this took so long! Second, I had a lot of trouble completing this request and since I haven't written anything Omori-related in a hot minute, I probably wrote these two out of character but I hope you don't mind. I'm not really accepting request right now but I decided to write this because I wanted to bring you comfort in your difficult times! I hope you enjoy this! :D

Warnings: Abuse is heavily implied! Reader has a vase thrown at them ( Hero ) and gets punched in the face ( Kel ) so please, if this upsets you, don't read this!

"Well that was..interesting." Kel mumbled before letting out an awkward laugh. A mistake he realizes a bit too late as you look up at him, your face relatively stoic aside from the unshed tears that are bubbling.

"Oh, uh- ..My bad." He mumbles in a hast, forcing himself to look away from the dark spot that's slowly forming around your eye. You had been feeling down lately and Kel wanted to surprise you by visiting you. It was unfortunate that your mom had the day off today..

At first, it wasn't bad. After he introduced himself, your mom gently urged you to come downstairs. When you came down, your heart dropped to your ass when you saw your best friend at the door—Your best friend who apparently found out where you lived without your knowing.

Completely oblivious, Kel watched the whole ordeal go down. How you seemed oddly nervous as you quickly explained that he was just a friend you met at the park, how your mom practically glared at you only to look back at him and flash him a smile similar to the ones his mother would give him when she wasn't trying to look bad in front of guests, up until she told him to wait outside for you and shut the door in his face.

He waited outside for what seemed to him like forever but after a while, he heard some yelling and you had finally walked outside, your face bruised and beginning to swell.

And now he's walking with you in complete silence. Just great..

What is he supposed to do now? This silence is killing him..but how is he supposed to get rid of it? By asking questions about what happened? No, it's way too soon for that.. Should he crack a joke? Doubt you'll find anything funny right now..

..Agh, forget this. Just say something already.

"Hey, let's go to the store," Kel blurts out. You pause, your feet coming to a halt as you finally look back at him, your brows beginning to scrunch.

"Don't worry, you can wait for me outside. I just want to grab some stuff so we can bandage up your face," He pauses, "..I'm not the best when it comes to medical stuff so you might need to help me out.."

"Kel," You begin, but he's quick to interrupt you. Smiling brightly as he says, "Hey, do you think Gino's will give us a discount if you come in looking like a mummy? I know Halloween has passed but if we dress you up in a good enough costume I'm sure that pizza guy will give us something!"

You stare at him with a wide-eyed look and for a moment, Kel feared that you saw through his flimsy attempt at cheering you up—or even worse, he accidentally offended you with his joke. Luckily, it seemed like neither happened, you even laughed a little.

"I don't think that'll work Kel," You say, a small grin beginning to make it's way on your face. It causes Kel's smile to widen.

"Oh come on, it's a foolproof plan! If we just wrap your entire body—"

"I am not letting you wrap me head to toe in bandages."

"Well not with that attitude you aren't."

"Kel—"

A wince sounds, sucked in through clenched teeth as a small, burning pain sets fire to your skin. Hero's eyes momentarily break away from your arm, his eyes looking up to shoot you an apologetic glance before they quickly return to the small cuts that litter your arm.

"I'm sorry, but I have to clean them to prevent an infection.." He mumbles. His tone as soft as the clouds outside his window. Despite this, it does little to comfort you.

"I know.. It just stings a bit," You reply lowly in which Hero nods his head, now completely focused once again.

"I can't believe he did this to you," He says after a moment, his brows dipping to form a deep v, "And over something like this.. It makes me so angry.."

"It was my fault," You quickly say, "I shouldn't have left my phone unattended."

"He shouldn't have attacked you because you're living your life."

"My father wants me to focus on my grades so my scholarship doesn't go to waste. Plus he isn't fond of the idea of me getting into any kind of relationship so—"

"That gives him the excuse to put his hands on you? To throw a literal vase at you?" Hero questions, his words leaving his lips like sharpened daggers, none of which were directed at you. Even so, it makes you feel awkward and you end up falling silent as a result.

"Listen, I understand that you probably think this is normal since you've dealt with his behavior for so long but this isn't normal. Constantly having to be patched up because your father can't control his anger isn't normal."

"Of course I know that!" You say, beginning to raise your voice, "I know it's not normal but what can I do, huh? I'm a broke fucking college student! Hell, I can barely afford pizza let alone my own apartment!"

"I don't know if you know this, but not everyone has a nice life filled with loving friends and family like you do, Hero! Not everyone has caring parents who'll be happy for you and'll want to provide for you like your parents have!" Slowly, Hero's eyes begin to widen. Not because of your harsh words or the mean glare that he knows isn't fully directed at him, but because of the crystal-like tears that have begun to roll down your cheeks.

"I'm sorry.." You sniffle, "I.. I'm so sorry.." You begin to curl into yourself, your tears splashing on knees, "I.. I'm just.. I—" You cut yourself off as you choke, Hero's eyes soften.

"It's okay, I know you didn't mean it," Hero murmurs, tone soft as he slowly pulls away from you, sensing how overwhelmed you are, "And I'm sorry for being so inconsiderate. You were already upset and I made it worse.."

Putting his first aid kit aside, Hero slides back to lean against the foot of his bed, pulling his knees up to his chest as he listens to your sobs in silence.

He's not used to this side of you. He's not used to you being so vulnerable around him. You had always put on such a strong front around him, always showed such a caring and sweet façade to him, and as nice as that was at times, he often felt as if some wall was put between you two. One that was iron solid despite being made out of cotton candy and sour gumdrops. He always felt that when it came to certain things, you always hid how you truly felt as to avoid concerning others so in a way seeing you like this, your true feelings bursting out like water flowing out of a broken dam makes him feel as happy as it does sad. ( An odd feeling seeming as his partner is having a breakdown on his bed right now )

Eventually, Hero slides up onto his bed, his fingers slowly inching towards yours, "Would you like me to hold you?' He asks, scanning your hunched over form for any sign of rejection before snaking his arms loosely around you.

"I've been thinking lately. Well, a little longer than lately actually.." Hero mutters, "What if you moved in with me? You'd still have to wait a little while since I'm not allowed to live off campus yet, but you can always visit like you've been doing."

"I'm sorry that I can't rescue you immediately but if you'll be patient, I promise it'll be worth it. I've been looking at a few apartments and found some really good ones. We can look at them together tomorrow if you'd like. Speaking of which, what do you want for breakfast tomorrow? There's not much we can make without a stove but if push comes to shove I can always get something to eat. Of course, you'll have to leave the same way you came to avoid getting caught by security.."

PP Providence knew what they were doing

So, you are gonna tell me that in this movie, we observe 3 instances of folks straddling one another in some way, shape, or form and there is nothing symbolic or telling there?

Akira and Prof. Stronskaya in the begining scene

Akane and Kogami in THAT scene

Gino and Frederica for that awesome close call scene

Each had tense situations surounding them that calls for different positions/demeanors/reactions. That is very true. However ( my shipping goggles are absolutely on), I can't help but notice the intimacy they drew between Akane/Ko. Obviously, Akira is not gonna be getting too close and personal with someone like Stronskaya so his positioning/demeanor/reaction all check out in the scene. He needs to explain the gravity of the situation to her, knowing full well what will need to happen.

Then we have Gino and Frederica's straddle. Gino grabs a hold of Frederica while falling debris rains down from above, and these are NOT small chunks either. They could easily be crushed and killed in this situation, a fate that almost befalls poor Frederica ( Thanks Gino, the Akane/Ko cheer squad must maintain our ranks!). Again, the positioning checks out, this moment is tense with a lot of unpredictible factors at play. I can't imagine anyone wanting to hunker down and remain that way during all that chaos. The demeanor and reactions between the two also check out. Shocked at narrowly avoiding death, they pause for a very brief moment before scrambling to their feet and hightailing it out of there. A lovely scene all around.

Then...THEN we have these two. Akane and Kogami. Setting the scene here, they are on whatever ungodly high level of this building and are currently crossing over on a sky bridge. Ko catches wind of the planted bombs and barks out a warning to everyone. They all scramble away and Ko (instinctively) flings himself on top of Akane to shield her from the oncoming blast. PAUSE.

I noticed a few things in this scene that I appreciate. We are treated to the moments directly before AND after the detonation of explosives, and that is critical to reading the tension between these two in this moment. On instinct, Ko flings himself at Akane and brings her to the ground. I'd like to take a moment to point out the cradle Ko placed Akane in as they fell, such a wonderful touch to show the depth of his protective instinct and CARE for Akane's wellbeing. It's super sweet. But what I mainly focus on in this scene is how they land. Ko's face is buried in Akane's arm, the same arm that is actually coming up to grasp around his shoulder, and Akane finds herself pressed up against Ko's collarbone/neck area ( a sensitive/vulnerable place, don't you think? More on that later...).

If you look carefully at Ko's positioning as he is JUST upon Akane, you can see the placement of his legs. They indicate that Ko would be landing squarely between Akane's legs for a full, classic lover's straddle in their brief tumble. From our angle, we can clearly see Akane's leg hitched up to the side and her armed splayed with the dominator still facing the threat she was unaware of. I appreciate this little touch as well because it tells us that Akane has not quite caught up to the implications of what the danger is or where it is even coming from and so, her weapon remains drawn and pointed behind them. So in one smooth motion, we have Ko planted in between Akane's legs, partially interlocked via arm/shoulder, Ko has his face buried in Akane's sleeve and Akane herself has her head near his shoulder/collarbone neck area. Not quite a lover's embrace but gdi, close enough.

The explosives detonate immediately after this, and we are given a bird's eye view of the explosion that takes place. I'd like to think this also serves as a reminder to the audience of the dangers they are currently facing. While crossing a sky bridge, explosives are detonated and anyone in this situation would be plenty concerned about the structural integrity of the bridge positioned so many stories up in the air. Despite this, we cut back to the scene inside and quite a few things have changed. Akane has tucked her hand between their bodies (presumably with the dominator...kinda awk but who am I to kink shame? lolololol) and Ko has both shifted to cover her legs with his own and also brought his body high above hers to shield her completely.

The positioning has changed quite drastically, so what sparked such a shuffle? The hint is in the smudge/bruising on Akane's cheek when we see Ko shifting his body slightly away from Akane's to check on her after the initial blast. My HC is that while Ko may have acted with good intentions, the same instinct he relies so heavily on during his missions can be both a boon and a curse. On instinct, in the first PP Movie, he flung Akane quite roughly to the ground before shielding her, but now? Ko finds himself nestled between her legs, cradling her close. That's quite a drastic shift, all things considered. Enough of a drastic shift, I'd bet that just for a moment, a VERY brief moment, Ko forgot about where he was and what they were supposed to be doing. That Ko was surround in the essence of Akane and temporarily short circuited. It was brief, but long enough for a few things to happen.

That explosion generated pretty high temperatures within the blast radius and, feeling the shock of that blast and the heat produced, Akane most likely responded instinctively in kind. The most natural way I would assume that could happen is for Akane to shrink in on herself, or in this case on the barrier currently blocking most of the blast. That would be Ko. Her movements would have snapped Ko back into reality when he realized Akane was not as secure as he intended/hoped. Ko would have felt Akane's legs tighten around him, her body tense and shrink further into him and realized his error, thus causing him to shift their positions as the dust cleared.

When things finally do settle, Ko has Akane fully covered and protected with his neck fully bared to her (beautiful and symbolic). Kogami pulls away SLIGHTLY and simply LOOKS at Akane. He's checking her over for injury of course but in that brief silence, Kogami can not look into Akane's eyes. To me, he almost looks as if he is ashamed of something. His break in concentration maybe? Her resulting injury (IF it was bruising, honestly, I thought it was just smudging from the blast)? The weight of the last conversation they had still hangs between them in this scene as well and the tension is just- *chef's kiss*

Ko shifts AGAIN, not completely lifting himself from on top of Akane, but instead lifting his torso a bit higher off of hers. Far enough for Akane to turn and face him full on. Ko finally looks at her but all he can really muster out is a "It's dangerous here, let's head back" or something of that nature. It is also my HC that this statement was not for Akane. It was for Ko himself. A reminder of the situation they are currently in. He even shifts his eyes away shortly after uttering those words to check in on their companions before Akane is finished responding. I saw someone say that Ko was a bit dumb for stating the obvious here but I think it was more of a grounding statement for Ko himself and had less to do with informing Akane of some new tactic or approach. The scene cuts there, and obviously, Ko got up eventually but SHEEEEESH boi...took you like...5 infinities to do so. I aint mad at ya LMAO

Oh, and what do you guys think the mark on Akane's cheek was? My money is still on it being smudging from the explosive and not actual bruising. (We saw bruising later for Akane with her cheek and to me it seemed darker and had more contrast with her skin but IDK)

My honest yet unbiased review of Psycho Pass Providence 🤗

As the snippets of Psycho Pass Providence are recently become available in almost everywhere, I suppose the long wait is over and I can finally post my own review of the PPP movie. I've been posting my own comments here and there because of the "imbalanced" & very biased review of most Japanese fans on Twitter. 😥

But am so glad the snippets aswell as the PPP movie itself are now made available so every one can learn the facts of the movie.

But before I begin let's discuss PPP in general.

OVERALL:

The movie is great 👍🏻 No doubt. The animation scenes are jam-packed. The theme and the overall plot is a HUGE PLUS. Because they tried to showcase the metaphorical, allegorical and philosophical aspect of the Psycho Pass anime season 1 had always been known for. So this film is a total of 90%.

Why? Coz although it connects the plot between Season 3 and First Inspector; and it provides an official background for our beloved Arata and Kei, it only adds to the many struggles of our characters against the Sybil System. They introduced the Divider and Mentalist abilities, the dirty works of MoFA that conceived the formation of the Peacbreakers. It seems like they're trying to expand the story of Psycho pass to provide a foothold for any possible seasons to come. But it fails to show us any glimpse of Sybil's eventual defeat. 😶

KOUAKA/SHINKANE

When I said the Japanese-natives are imbalanced and unreasonably biased with their Tweets, I mean it. And I am of Japanese descent thru my grandma, so I have the audacity 🤭.

When some tweet says, "Akane took the cigarette from Kou's lips and Kou leans forward as if trying to kiss Akane" I cringed. Because girl, that is partially true. But where's the "almost kissing"part?

It's obvious that Kou only adjusted his position to sit down and speak to Akane. So where's the "he's trying to kiss her"? 😆

I love Shinkane, in their most subtle yet caring nature towards one another. But I don't want to make believe. It's better to tell the facts than to 誰かを笑顔にするために嘘をつくこと. 😮‍💨

Honestly, 皆さん, どうして?

The only Shinkane moment for me is when he jumps to Akane covering her from the explosion 💥

Here we see, Kogami is simply checking her up if she's fine. Nothing fancy, but that's enough to make me giggle. 🙂

When Kou unlocked the cuff from Akane's left hand, as if motioning her to attach that on his left hand, is a chef-kiss moment to me👌🏻 that also includes the bridal carry 😉.

But some fans make noise in Twitter saying "Kogami hugs Akane and rests her closely to his chest near his heart".

I mean, girl, everyone who saw that scene knows exactly that it is not that romantic but hey it's enough to make our hearts pound. But don't over-hype the scene will yah?

The beauty of Shinkane lies in their subtle interaction. Not in an overly done romantic PDA.

THE COINCIDENCE:

There's an obvious theme the writers are portraying in this movie. Most fans have pointed it out but they try to deny it themselves. 😶

° Kogami calling Frederica on her first name without honorifics (i.e -san, -sama, -chan).

° Kogami and Frederica's same Sherpa coat as some could point out.

° Kogami and Frederica standing side by side in most of the scenes they're in.

° Kogami when he talks to Akane on the phone when he gives her the word "...Even if you tell me not to, I'll go".

Frederica is looking sideways.

Kogami when talking to Gino in a boat, when the latter asked him why he comes back, to which he replied there are things he must protect.

Frederica is looking sideways.

When a guy friend is talking to us and his girlfriend is around, I noticed his girlfriend does the same too. So idk. 😅

° Kogami defending Frederica in front of Akane. We all know that. It's pretty much straightforward, he's not only defending his new boss.

° Kogami receives the call from Akane when he's at a dark room with Frederica. When he says I will go. Then, the next scene we saw them standing side by side with the same jacket on when Akane deploys the dominator to them.

I think Akane noticed that too 😮‍💨

° Kogami never leaves his gun (the one he used to kill Makishima given to him by Masaoka). But it was with Frederica. And when Gino shouts at Kou, "Protect Tsunemori!" She gave the pistol to him.

° Lastly, the room where Saiga-sensei and Kogami shared a drink implied that it is the MoFA assigned quarters to Kogami. And the holographic painting where Kogami is standing is a painting of Tower of London. And we all know Frederica is half-british. 😉

° There was a publication which implies that Kogami and Frederica share the same quarters. (I didn't say bedroom. So please don't give me a violent reaction 🥲).

Again, this is not to ship-wreck. But many Japanese fans literally skipped this information because those are quite suggestive as to how close Kogami and Frederica is in this movie.

If you saw the film, it's up to you to decide.

REMARKS:

As I said, the beauty of Shinkane lies in their subtle interactions not by overly-defined public display of affection.

But in this film, the writers are clearly making a statement. To impose their original idea that Kogami and Akane are not meant to be together. Even the Seiyuus say they can ship Ginoza and Akane but they can't with Kogami. And they even tried to be extra careful when delivering the script to avoid any misconception of them having a romantic scene together.

At first I was deeply hurt. Because I've been shipping them like forever. But now I saw Shinkane in a new perspective. I won't try to force them together just because I feel like it.

But I will enjoy any significant scene of them being simply together and the whole Psycho Pass anime franchise as it is the way the writers portray them. Yet in my heart, Shinkane will always be an item. ❤️

Our ship may not sail the way we expect it to be (for 10 straight years) but the bond we have as a Shinkane Community will remain. The fanarts, the fanfics, the forum discussions and sweet exchanges etc...

There's no fandom as dedicated as Shinkane/KoAka fans. #thePowerOfFandom❣️

THE FOURTH SEASON:

Everyone at this point is screaming when is the Season 4 coming? We need a closure! 😱

Same here, I wish the Season 4 will come out soon. If the original Division 1 will take on the backseat to give way to new generation of characters (i.e Arata and Kei), why not atleast give them a good closure? They all deserve to be happy!

Yayoi x Shion have their "proper" ending at the First Inspector. But what about the others? 🤔

Also Shizuka Homura. I am very much intrigued by this man. He knows Akane long before she joins the PSB. They have the same alma-mater though years apart ofcourse. And what will he put to the table? Is he a friend or a foe?

Will there be a new Makishima to Kogami? Or a Makishima to Akane?

Most importantly, when will the Sybil System end? It's been the series' primary antagonist but after all these 10 (thousand) years, when will it come to an end? To provide another good plot to Psycho Pass verse and to create more narrative in the future.

Day 1: Steer

When he was a kid and things had been better, Rorogino’s mother had made a point of telling bedtime stories to he and his siblings in that fraction of years when they were young enough to demand and be enthralled by such moments. She never told them anything of Sharlayan origin; after the first few attempts, the attitude among the Papagino family was that stories should be about more than excelling at schoolwork and certainly shouldn’t require footnotes. Instead, they settled on the kind of insomnia-inducing Gridanian beditme story about clever boys and girls coming upon wildlings and witches in the woods. Though menaced by dark magics and a dangerous forest, quick wits let them bargain with their foes and good hearts let them get what they wanted while skirting the consequences and reach their happy ending.

At the time, he’d loved those stories. Twenty years, one expulsion, and two major changes in life circumstances later, and he was now of the opinion that the kids in those tales were a pack of worthless ingrates.

“You’re asking too much,” Emyr said. Rorogino wasn’t looking at him, focused on comparing the small cameo portrait he held in one hand and sketching out its likeness across canvas with a cheap piece of charcoal in the other, but he could hear the quiver in the man’s voice, and guessed that his hands trembled in his lap. It wasn’t fear in Emyr’s tone, he was certain of that.

“I’m asking exactly what I said I’d ask, what we agreed on, what you paid for.” He squinted at the cameo, taking in the details of a handsome-looking elezen, with strong ears, sharp nose, and a warm and friendly expression, even with a set mouth, that one didn’t often see in miniature. Granted, his chin was a bit on the absent side, but perhaps the artist had missed a detail somewhere. He was somebody that almost certainly wouldn’t be seen anywhere near Emyr’s scraggly ass in any other circumstance. “Do you want it or not?” “I do!” Emyr looked up from his hands in protest, trying to catch Rorogino’s gaze. “But I can’t even get close enough to converse, most days, just a few scant words, and he’s always got his staff, they’re watching – I don’t think I can get it, Gino, not this time.”

Heaving a heavy and deep sigh, Rorogino put his charcoal away, set the cameo where it would fit on the tiny stand that he kept near his canvas, and rubbed his broad forehead. He swivelled in his stool, which gave a loud squeak in protest, and looked up at Emyr, scrutinizing him with bright blue eyes. There wasn’t much worthwhile about the man except his net worth: His father had done well in copper speculation and landed them comfortably in the middle tier of the Monetarists, and Emyr was content to live on the family wealth and waste it to the best of his ability. His hands shook, his eyes were constantly bloodshot, his voice had a quality not unlike that of a frightened shrew, and his chin and cheeks seemed scarred from a disease in his youth. Fortunately, his personality was repellent to compensate. Rorogino had no doubt he would do well in an unhappy marriage in his distant future, and wished he could deal with that version of Emyr instead of this one.

Nevertheless, this was the version that had paid him half up-front, as prompted, and he would very much like to have the other half in his possession, thank you very much. Aetherially-conductive paints were expensive in the best of times.

“Tell me about his eyes.” The prompt made Emyr blink in surprise, his eyes shining and watery enough to drop a tear.

“What?”

“His eyes, tell me about them. The cameo’s too small,” He lied, “And all I can see are a couple of black dots.”

“Yes, well. They’re a sort of a brown, but not so dark as that. Leaning into amber.” As Emyr spoke, Rorogino watched the man’s hands where they lay in his lap, trembling. “They’re warm,” he said. “Like the rest of his face. And kind. When he told me ‘mind the stairs’ in the ballroom, it felt like my minding them was the only thing that mattered to him. And when he asked for a glass of water?” The trembling had stilled. “The way they squinted around the edges, little wrinkles in the skin like he is wiser than his age. I wish I could show you, Gino.” “Thanks, but I get the picture. I can work out the rest. Now.” Placing his hands on his knees, Gino kept looking straight ahead, only tilting his eyes upwards. “You want those eyes looking at you and nobody else? That’s what you want, right? That’s what you asked for when you came here. That still true?” “Yes,” There was that quiver in his voice again – not fear, but a desperation, that he might not be desired.

“Then get me his godsdamned eyelash. Pigment won’t make itself. And don’t come back until you do.” With another horrible squeak, Rorogino turned back to his canvas. Emyr could see himself out, and, seeing him rise from his chair out of the corner of his eye, was satisfied that he’d do so.

He picked up the cameo again, squinting at the expression in the elezen’s face. Emyr had certainly gotten the color right, but they didn’t seem so warm to Gino. Then again, he’d said the same thing about the last two commissions as well. He was always after warmth. One of these days, one of these men would actually have it.

“Ingrates,” he muttered to himself, thinking back to the old stories. They always got their boon from people like Gino with clever wits and good hearts. One of these days, he thought, he might get a patron with either quality.

they say that poverty makes one creative. i'd like to think it is true.

last week, the younger nephews and nieces were at home to celebrate the unofficial "birthday" of the two kid's my family adopted. and since these are kids, the menu could only mean ordering chicken joy buckets or pizza. i was about to place the order when manang cion asked me to stack some hollow blocks on a table and later had me add the unused bricks from the garage.

"gagawa tayo homemade pizza" commanded manang as she arranged the bricks to form a furnace. in other words, if you have eaten Gino's pizza, we are doing the same except that ours is an improvised brick oven! puede. nakatipid kami.

"huwag mong buhusan ng gaas!" she screamed as she saw me about to douse the furnace with kerosene. oo nga naman, maglalasang gasolina. the secret was to lit shreds of paper until the wood emits a steady ember and from there you fan to keep the fire burning.

when she saw that I can manage, she went back to the kitchen and in no time, emerged with several trays of dough molded in irregular circular forms, not too big or small, enough that each kid would have their own pizza.

although ours is far from the artisanal pizzas sold outside (given it was burnt on some edges) it was delicious nonetheless. the best part was we almost did not spend anything as the ingredients were sourced from the pantry like the salami/pepperoni sausages that have been in the freezer for almost a year and the basil leaves were from the garden. we only spent for drinks as the oldies are joining as well and will require beer and chips to go with the pizza.

my new siblings were happy as well, as it was their first try eating something different from rice and ulam. Kid number 1 had more than four slices while the little girl had two but gave up eating her third slice as she drifted for an afternoon nap while I carried her, unbothered by the superficial chismisan of her now uncles and aunties.

and it was a lovely weekend.

uh oh sisters! I’m back with more Kel Angst… but more like a Kel Character Study.

I’m sure Kel appreciators are already familiar with my analysis of how Kel thinks people value Mari’s theoretical opinions more than his real ones. But since that was at the end of a longer post which was just a “List of Fun Kel Facts :)” I think I didn’t really get to touch on the fact of why this has come to be.

Someone in the tags of that post wrote that Hero does this too, that the two brothers were raised to be people-pleasers and naturally tend to ignore their own feelings. And I absolutely 100% agree with this!!! But consider now: Kel was the little troublemaker, and Hero was the responsible one. To some degree, I think you can also make an argument as to how Hero’s role as the responsible one allowed Kel to be the troublemaker, and vice versa; whether it was by their own will or not, Kel traded positive attention for more freedom, and Hero did the opposite.

Hero is the one to handle responsibility first, and he’s older, too—so it goes that, inherently, Hero has made the better suggestions of the two of them during their childhood, from hangout ideas to problem solving. Kel is the one that makes the silly suggestions, the one that’s a little less realistic, the one that’s still filled with childish fantasies of Captain Spaceboy and renegade stories.

Until he isn’t. Until he’s grown up a little, until he’s slapped in the face by a tragic death, by a despondent, unresponsive brother—by nobody else knowing what to do any better than him.

So he tries—

“Hey Aubrey! Do you want to come to my birthday party? I know we haven’t really talked, this past year, but—”

“Helloooo, Sunny? It’s time for school, and I heard we’re gonna play basketball during gym! You don’t have to play, I can just shoot hoops and you can watch! I’m getting real good at it, I swear—”

“Morning, Basil! Did you need any help doing gardening stuff? I just wanted to see if anyone was free to hang out, but—”

“Hey Hero. Are you… feeling a bit better today? I was just wondering… if you wanted to go get Gino’s with me. Because I’m hungry, and I think it’d be fun if we went together—”

—and he fails.

“—you want to hold a birthday party? Are you- Are you serious?! Tomorrow’s the day she- and you- I- Did she mean nothing to you?!” (He wanted to distract Aubrey from it. But of course she wouldn’t forget.)

“—oh, Kel, good morning! I’m sorry, but I don’t think Sunny can come see you right now… We’re thinking of homeschooling, but… I’m sure he’ll come out to see you one day.” (School was just an excuse to ask for Sunny. Now what is he supposed to do?)

“—ah, um- I’m- I’m okay! I have to… to, um, check on the m-more delicate plants today so, um— m-maybe not today… I-I’m sorry.” (If he were better at not being clumsy, would Basil still have turned him away?)

“—I’m not hungry, Kel… Not today. It’s late anyway.” (He’s never hungry when Kel asks.)

Kel tries to handle things on his own, and it fails. He is confronted with the fact that, on his own, his ideas really are as stupid as Aubrey used to call them, and as silly as Basil and Sunny used to say they were, and as unrealistic as Hero used to tell him.

And Mari…

“—Hi, Mari. Sorry I couldn’t make it last week. But, uh… I was just wondering… if you… if you could maybe… tell me this is all a bad joke…? Because- they all said you- you did it on purpose, but… but I don’t think you would have wanted this, right…?”

(“Well, Kel! You’ve just made a very convincing point. Now I don’t know who to believe!”)

…

The only person who believed in him, the only one who bothered to indulge his ideas even a little bit, is gone.

And yet, just like when they were younger, the one time things work is—

“Mari wouldn’t have wanted to see you like this, Hero…”

—when Mari steps in.

“…what?”

And again.

“I can’t just leave here knowing that this is the person you’ve become. I mean… What would Mari think?”

“Why do you keep bringing her up?”

Granted, the reactions are always a bit rough. But it’s what makes people react, it’s what gets things to change.

So… yeah. Kel’s opinions don’t matter. They’re not supposed to—they’re supposed to make people laugh, or deadpan, or call him stupid so that he can start bantering and bickering, because it’s familiar, because it’s normal. It makes things a bit difficult if he wants to be all serious, but as always, Mari is there for him when his mind comes up blank.

Until she isn’t. Until Sunny says something, and Basil corroborates it. Until every little success he’s been able to achieve with Mari’s help dissipates like the cheap discount foamer in Sally’s bubble baths. Until Kel isn’t sure what Mari would have wanted.

Until Kel is left with only himself. Mari would have wanted—

—he wants—

—everyone to be happy. Everyone to stick together this time. Everyone to help him figure out what the hell he’s feeling right now. Everyone to help him figure out how to stay together when all he wants is to run. Everyone to come back to the room so they can talk, before they split apart again. Again. Not again. Not again.

But how will he do it without Mari?

This movie is so underrated guys. I hope this reaches the very few people that know it or will know it in the future :)

This is a post where I drop all the details I’ve noticed/theories I have. I include stuff from the book as well as movie and update this every once in a while.

North Sea Texas (2011) is a Belgium movie based of André Sollie’s novel Nooit gaat dit over (this is Everlasting) from 2005.

Wikipedia synopsis (spoiler alert):

A young Pim and his mother, Yvette, live in the Belgian countryside with their dog named Mirza. The mother, a lonely divorcee, plays a piano accordion, and patronizes a local bar called Texas.

One day Pim and his mother attend a fair, where they meet a traveling carny named Zoltan. Zoltan is kind to the younger Pim, and Pim is infatuated. Zoltan rents a room in Yvette's home intermittently, but later stops coming to town. Meanwhile, Yvette begins spending time with a man named Etienne, who is brutish and macho, and whom Pim immediately despises.

Pim loves to dress up and put on his mothers make up, wich she doesn’t mind. Yvette is an absent mother and the extremely introverted Pim doesn’t talk to her at all.

As time passes, Pim develops a close friendship with the slightly older Gino, who becomes his best friend. Pim falls in love with Gino, an Italian boy who wears leather jackets and has a motorcycle. Gino explores his sexuality with the adoring Pim, and the two become increasingly intimate. They both agree to keep their sexual relationship a secret, although Pim seems to have different expectations and hopes for their future than Gino.

Meanwhile, Gino's sister Sabrina develops feelings for Pim, and Gino secretly spends the night with a girl he is seeing named Françoise. Pim, seeing Gino kiss Françoise, commits an act of vandalism as revenge and a rift forms between the two friends. Sabrina subsequently finds out that Pim is gay, and Yvette breaks it off with the boorish Etienne. Around this time, the enigmatic Zoltan unexpectedly returns. Gino, growing uncomfortable with the complicated circumstances, begins pushing Pim away, telling him their relationship was just a game.

Compounding the emotional roller coaster for Pim, he goes to Zoltan's room one evening, hoping to spend the night with him, only to find Zoltan out of his room and down the hall having sex with Pim's mother. Zoltan was Pims ticket out and he told Gino he was going to leave with Zoltan. Now he’s stuck again.

A distraught Pim runs off into the night. He returns home to find his mother has left with Zoltan and left him a note. Pim takes Mirza and moves in with Sabrina, while Gino is living out of town with Françoise.

Marcella, the mother of Gino and Sabrina dies from unknown illness. On het deathbed, she grabs the hands of Gino and Pim and clasps them together.

Following the funeral of Marcella, Pim and Sabrina are seen living together, although the living arrangement is clearly platonic. On a rainy day, Gino returns. After Pim tells Gino that his sister isn't home, Gino tells Pim that it was he who Gino came home for. Gino gently grabs Pim and moves him against the wall. Gino returns a cloth with special meaning to them both to Pim, telling him to tie a knot in it so that he will never forget him. He then proceeds to kiss Pim on the neck and the two embrace one another passionately. Pim tells Gino to "stay," and the film ends with the two of them embracing each other, suggesting a happy ending for the young couple.

I’m not really gonna dive into why I think this movie is so good, but I can tell you it’s a very quiet, dreamy movie with not a lot of dialogue. Some people will need to watch it multiple times to understand what’s going on. I did so and noticed a lot of little things. Since I’m Dutch I also read the book and I’m going to include details and quotes from that too.

Details and theories (spoiler alert):

-The reason the characters don’t change appearance throughout the entire movie even though 3 years have passed is because we see the movie through Pims eyes. Pim is a dreamer and tends to live in his own romanticised world. He doesn’t seem to think (or maybe want) that he and Gino aged or changed at all.

(Director Bavo Defurne initiated this in an interview)

-The reason why there is no footage or even mention of the kids going to school or having other friends than eachother is because, according to author Sollie:

“the book would become about their opinions about Gino and Pim and their relationship. It would become about homofobia and pain and I wanted the book to have a positive message. It’s about Gino and Pim and what the rest of the world might think about it doesn’t matter.”

I also think that, since the movie is seen through pims perspective, he might’ve ‘cut’ out boring parts of his life (such as school) out of his memory and the movie is just a series of key moments in his relationship with Gino, who is the person that means the most to him and he also thinks of as the most interesting.

-The scene near the end of the movie when Marcella is dying and with her last energy grabs both Gino and Pims hands and clasps them together -showing them that she accepts their relationship and in a way saying ‘you love eachother and it’s okay’ was so important and emotional that the noise that was recorded couldn’t be used because the actors hearts were all beating so loudly.

-pim is kind of an asshole. As an abandoned, only-child he is pretty selfish and completely locked up in his own world. Gino gives him the love he has always wanted and Pim becomes completely blind for everyone else and their feelings, such as Sabrina’s.

-Pim collects things that have belonged to people he cares about (gino, zoltan, his (younger) mother) in a shoebox and kind of uses them as an replacement for the actual person because all of these people leave and/or betray him in the end and he needs something to hold onto.

For example, he trades his and gino’s knives, wich are identical, but he just likes the idea that it belonged to Gino.

By the end of the movie, Pim realizes that he doesn’t want to live like that anymore and burns the box.

-he wears converse :)

-he parts his hair the same way as Gino.

-he calls himself ‘paper-boy’ when he comes into his neighbours house because he always brings the newspaper to Marcella when his own mother has finished reading it. Marcella is too poor to subscribe to the paper herself.

-(book detail) He usually spends his nights at local bar ‘Texas’ where his mother sometimes sings and plays the accordeon. When he’s there, he likes to draw the customers on and the bar-keeper hangs his drawings up on the wall.

-Throughout the movie, Pim becomes more and more like Gino, who used to be his hero. For example, in the beginning of the movie Pim would have never hurt Gino or drank beer, and later on he does do these things. Maybe he’s trying to prove that he can be ‘tough’ and not only a boy who likes dressing up.

-(book detail) He refers to himself as a princess and Gino as Prince. In the movie, he instead uses ‘the beauty and the beast.’

-(book detail) He also thinks that Gino is like ‘a landscape he will never get tired of seeing’

-Sabrina and Marcella talk about how their grandmother is going to make fries and when Pim is told he can’t come with them he makes fries at home.

-(book detail) he does the counting down the alfabet thing in front of the mirror because he sees it as a way to transform to a princess when dressing up and then transform back to a normal boy.

In the movie, he counts down until he reaches the ‘G’ from Gino or the ‘Z’ from zee (sea).

-On Marcella’s deathbed he calls her ‘mother’ for the first and last time.

-(book detail) he was going to give Gino the drawing he made of him but heard about gino dating Françoise that same evening and forgot about it.

In the movie, Pim rolls up the towel and a picture of a motorcycle and it seems that he wants to give this to Gino as a present, but again never does because Gino is cheating on him.

-he fixes his hair and/or jacket every time he’s about to enter Gino’s house.

-the song he and Sabrina dance to is ‘teach me tiger’ (1961) by April Stevens.

-he has dry flowers and butterflies on his desk :)

-he has never known his father, just like Pim.

-Although Gino doesn’t get many lines on screen, he seems to be a pretty witty and funny guy (‘the last news of yesterday 🙄’) who is stubborn and direct. (When pims ask him if he can come with him he straight up tells him ‘no.’ ☠️)

-he likes to dance (wish we would’ve got a dancing scene with him and Pim)

-although he may usually seem like the ‘masculine’ leader in his and Pims relationship, he’s actually way more insecure than Pim, who has always been sure about his sexuality and isn’t afraid or ashamed of it.

-he always calls Pim ‘Pimmie’, a nickname that shows that he sees Pim as young and ‘innocent.’

-In every intimate scene, he is the ‘leader’/top, and it seems that he does this to keep control over the situation because he’s afraid of his feelings. The last kissing scene, where Gino lets go of controlling his feelings and accepts Pim kissing and embracing him, is an exception.

-he wears low rise jeans (seriously they looked like they were about to fall off his ass the entire time lmao).

-the puzzle he, Sabrina and Pim make om one of the first scenes hangs above his bed in later ones. 2 pieces are missing: one is in Pims shoe-box, but where the other piece went is unclear.

-The love language of the characters seems to be souvenirs but I think Sabrina might have took the second piece. At the time, Gino wasn’t in love with Pim yet (at least I hope so because Pim was like 10 and Gino 14) but Sabrina was the same age and already started to like Pim very early on.

(It’s also possible that it just fell on the ground and got lost obv☠️)

-Although there seems to be a happy ending for Pim and Gino, author André Sollie (a gay man himself) said in an interview that there are many straight boys that play sexual games with their friends.

Yea no this definitely doesn’t count for Gino look at the way bro looks at Pim ☠️ (bad picture but if you watch the scenes you’ll know what I mean) also would a straight boy leave his gf to kiss another guy and tell him to never forget him? Yea no 💕

-gino’s ‘boyish’ personality gets established by what his room (more specifically his drawer) looks like. (Are those boxing-gloves?)

-(book detail) sabrina is introduced in the book by the sentence ‘Sabrina wore green pants and with her long legs she was just like a fourteen-year-old Barbie doll.’

-In the movie she only wears flower dresses.

-when Sabrina is still in love with Pim, she offers him lemonade every time he visits their house, but Pim never ‘accepts’ the lemonade or says thank you. After she finds out he was in love with her brother all along she only offers him water, and now he accepts, like they finally understand each other.

-she and Pim are actually really similar: both in love with someone that isn’t in love with them too (anymore), and yet they don’t realize that about eachother.

-after her mothers death Sabrina takes on a job in the local supermarket, although her salary is by far not enough to pay the rent and food with. Sabrina worries about this in the book, not the movie.

-(book detail) although in the movie she may only seem a cringy girl that’s obsessed with Pim, in the book she’s actually quite smart. When Gino says Françoise couldn’t come to the funeral because she felt sick Sabrina’s first thought is that she is pregnant. In the movie she just calls Françoise a bitch lmao.

-after she caught Gino and Françoise having sex Gino gives her money so that she won’t tell Marcella about it. Sabrina immediately goes into his room after he left and puts the money under his pillow. In the book, she is disgusted by how Gino is sneaking Françoise in and out just to have sex and she thinks about how it “didn’t match with her idea of love.”

-(book detail) she dreams of Pim and his ‘nice ass’ (pls lmao 😭) saving/taking her away from the poor, depressing neighbourhood.

-(book detail) Although shocked at first she seems supportive of her brother and friends relationship and thinks to herself: “the boys will always find each other again. not even Françoise can stop them from doing so.”

SUNNY

when he first peeks in and sees the tears on your face, he definitely panicked

he's a little awkward so he might think about just quietly leaving, but he cares about you and can't just leave you like that

once you look up and notice him, his heart drops when you break out in a sob

he walks over to you and slowly sits down, hesitating to put his hand on your back. he's still kinda stiff and awkward though

he doesn't ask you to talk about it, he just sits there and waits for you to do your own thing. it doesn't matter if you just need a pat on the back or if you need to rant about something, he'll stay there for as long as you need

sunny has a hard time showing care, so the best he can do is listening and nodding his head. he is trying his best, and seeing as his love language is quality time, if you'd like you two go out for ice cream afterwards!!!

AUBREY

her immediate reaction is concern, and she thinks about slowly closing the door so you won't see her, but she'd feel far too guilty

she takes a few cautious steps in, gently calling your name and she kinda freaks out if you start to cry harder and hide your face

she's at your side, slowly sitting down on your bed and hovering her hand over yours before deciding against it and patting you on the back.

"hey, Y/N... what's wrong?"

her heart twinges with guilt when she sees you crying, despite not doing anything wrong. she tends to assume things are her fault!

she'll listen to you talk until you tire. aubrey really doesn't mind. she knows it all too well; the frustration of not being able to just rant and talk about yourself for once. she listens silently and slowly rubs your back as you speak through sobs

she's kinda scared to, but she ends up pulling you into a hug, burying her face in your neck.

"you don't have to hide it, y'know.. i'm here."

KEL

he waltzes into your room and stops in his tracks once he sees you crying.

"..Y/N?"

kel never likes seeing people cry. he's always been one to try and stay positive, but whenever someone else is upset or angry it always dampens his mood. he's such an empath

he'll step over to you, eyeing you carefully and playing with his fingers.

when you notice him and flinch a little, he flinches right back and waits for you to say something. but when all he's met with are sobs, he sits down next to you and immediately hugs you tightly.

it might've been more to comfort himself than you, as physical touch is sometimes a grounding method. i think seeing people emotional can get kel kind of..,,. disassociated??

he pulls away and looks at you in the eyes, asking what's wrong. he listens to you talk quietly, afraid that if he interrupts you might shut down and stop talking completely

he might try to crack more jokes the rest of the day, and definitely takes you out to gino's to get your favorite pizza and chat. he doesn't like seeinf anyone sad, especially not you!!!

HERO

hero lightly knocked on your door before letting himself in. usually, he was quite good at knocking, but every now and then he'd let the dad side of him slip and just lets himself into your room

it was mainly out of concern as to if you were okay, again another dad trait

you're in your bed, sniffling and breathing heavily, it goes almost unnoticed from outside the door.

"Y/N? what happened?" hero anxiously rushes to your bedside, and his heart shatters when you let out a loud sob when you see him

his first instinct is to engulf you in a hug, but he doesn't want to make you uncomfortable, so he settles for standing there awkwardly and not knowing what to do with his hands

he ends up sitting down on your bed, putting his feet up and scooting closer to you, putting an arm around your shoulder. "hey, hey, it's alright. i'm here."

if you want to talk to him about your feelings, he gladly listens, nodding and validating whatever you say with little 'yeah' and 'yup's

he makes u your favorite home-cooked meal afterwards to cheer you up, and lets you know you can always come to him for help. he also ruffles ur hair

BASIL

basil has a hard time with feelings. he feels so much of them, but they're so hard to get out and deal with.

he cracks the door open and pops his head in. "Y/N? you okay?"

he sees you curled up in your sheets in bed, and immediately grows concerned, opening the door wider.

"..Y/N?" he stands awkwardly at the door, fidgeting and trying to see your expression.

you look up and see him, and you quickly bury your face into your covers and cry harder. he grows panicked, and speed walks to your side, hesitating to sit down on the bed.

"oh, Y/N.. what.. what's wrong?" he inches closer, slowly taking your hand in his shaky one, rubbing it with his thumb.

basil is a great listener, and he hears you out intently on everything you have to say. he tries to speak comforting words, but they come out as somewhat robotic. he's trying. he truly means the words though!

basil gives you a quick, warm hug and pulls back, smiling softly. "do you want to see the others? they're outside." his friends always cheer him up, so he assumes it's the same for you

MARI

mari wants nothing more than to put a smile on everyones face. so when see walks in on you crying quietly, her sisterly instincts kick in

she rushes to your side and immediately sits on the bed, placing her hand over yours and speaking soothing words.

"hey, it's alright, Y/N. i'm right here." she rubs your hand with her thumb. "let's talk about it, yeah?"

she keeps her hand in yours when you speak, and shooshes you and coos if you start to sob or have a hard time speaking.

she reassures you, and gives you a little pep talk

"you're the strongest kid i know, Y/N. look at you, standing straight and tall after everything. be happy about how far you've come!"

she's incredibly understanding and does anything you want to do afterwards. bake cookies, have a picnic, hang out with your friends. she's very attentive, so she'll pay extra attention to make sure you're doing alright!

As stereotypical as it sounds, Italian Steve is so good at cooking that the owner of Enzos hires him as their head chef.

YES!!

Okay so, since you need to know other stuff other than how to cook to be a great chef, I imagine that Steve gets hired because he's a great amateur cook and they have a professional cook who doesn't know anything about actual Italian cuisine, so they help each other out.

I just imagine Steve lecturing the kitchen staff about Italian dishes how he usually would do with the kids:

"We do NOT put cream in Carbonara."

"Fettucini Alfredo is the dumbest shit I've ever heard."

"Why do you put pees everywhere?"

And him just slapping someone's hand as they're about to add pineapples on pizza "no."

The staff starts to fear his reactions. One time they had run out of sauce for their pasta and one of them had said: "I mean if we put ketchup instead it's still close to pasta al pomodoro, don't you think?"

Steve had killed them with a glance and said "yeah and if my grandmother had wheels she would've been a bike! What are you even saying??"

(They had laughed at his reaction while being scared, if that’s even possible.)

It takes one month before Robin and Eddie decide to bug him at his new job and, being the only one to know (Steve is still too self conscious to talk about his Italian roots), they take their quest seriously.

Steve decides to take their orders himself so he can avoid them talking with his coworkers.

«Aren’t you supposed to greet us with an Italian greeting?» Eddie teases immediately.

«Oh yes, forgive me. Vaffanculo to you» Steve says, with the fakest smile he can master.

«Stevie I know Italian well enough to tell that wasn’t very polite-»

«Please don’t start flirting now, I just wanna eat in peace» Robin laments, making them blush and stutter a few incoherent words.

Robin looks satisfied with their reaction «I’ll have a carbonara please.»

Steve turns to Eddie «what about you?»

Eddie, still a little red in the face, is looking at the menu like it had personally insulted his uncle. As Steve is about to ask if he needs help, Eddie points at something in the menu and says «I’ll have this… orecchiette alla barese…?»

Steve cannot say if it’s because Eddie just said it with the sexiest accent he has ever heard, because of his newfound fixation with Eddie saying anything in Italian or because he picked the one dish Steve put on the menu dedicated to his grandmother, but once again it does things to his brain.

He runs to the kitchen without saying goodbye and starts cooking immediately like a madman.

The kitchen staff looks at him curiously as he spies on Eddie and Robin’s table from the kitchen door for their whole stay.

Once they’re gone, he gets teased for having a crush. Steve can’t say they’re wrong.
