So last night’s D&D session was a bit of an adventure!
Months back, my ranger, Ashara, met with a terrible fate. Her body was left with a druid so she could be respectfully buried, but before that could happen the druid was kidnapped by the big bad necromancer of the campaign. The druid was murdered and Ashara’s body was left with the necromancer, who thought it fitting to bring her back as a revenant to further his plans.
She was broody before, but undeath brought out her worst qualities.
But we finally made it back from the Feywild, only to discover we had been gone for 6 months and had been presumed dead or too cowardly to return. Our Dragonborn paladin party member Harkuren, who had parted ways with us before we went to the Feywild, had been basically the sole protector of the town we had been working to save for the whole 6 months, and had taken a bit of a hardened, black and white view of things and threatened to kill us if we were lying about who we were.
During the whole proving we were still ourselves to the baron, who should show up but Ashara, seeking to reach an accord on behalf of the big bad. To protect the town, we agreed to do what she demanded, especially after she threatened to call down a dracolich should we betray her.
Vrinne’s draconic “ally”, Tchazzar, was very interested in the necklace Ashara had touched to reference the dracolich, and demanded that she acquire it, as it seemed to control the dragon. He also suggested getting Harkuren to ally with him.
Together, we all went to a ruin in the woods that held what Ashara demanded- some kind of water from an elven ruin’s well. She could not enter, being undead, so the elven warlock and the once half-elven bard(he sold his elven half away in the feywild) went ahead, leaving the rest of us awkwardly waiting with Ashara.
There were some tense conversations between Ash and everyone else, especially with Harkuren who was particularly acidic to the walking corpse of his once friend. Being a revenant, the hatred keeping her together was over her friends betraying her and leaving her to die, so her anger was also mostly directed at the paladin who could have saved her and stopped her from being bound to the necromancer. She also wanted to eat Vrinne for being moderately obnoxious.
The warlock and bard finally came back from their adventure below, which involved traps and a banshee obsessed with song, and all hell broke loose because there was no way we were letting her have that water. Before she could attack-thank god because she would have been utterly terrifying- the barbarian knocked her to the ground and the paladin stabbed her in the heart with one hell of a smite. For a moment Ashara was herself again, and tried to warn us about something, but couldn’t get the words out before she died.
Vrinne tried to get the necklace that controlled the dracolich, which had dropped down to lay on some pain, but the paladin, after killing Ashara, struck the necklace itself and destroying both it and the dracolich before Vrinne could stop him.
I’m so sad about Ashara!!!!! My poor daughter had a rough life before she died, and then to be killed again by her friends when she had no control over her existence just breaks my heart. At least she’s probably at peace now, instead of being an undead assassin for the forces of darkness, but the last face she saw was a once-friend who had only anger in his eyes for her existence. ;______;
Also bummer, Vrinne could have had a dracolich and probably a cascade of really terrible decisions involving it.
#d&d#Vrinne Cricket Rakani#Ashara Venaris#d&d character#sorcerer#ranger#sylph says#sylph draws#my poor children#I'm not sure how Ash's hair got to be so long after she died#but it's probably a wig or magic#poor gal lost her lovely tan and freckles as well#being undead really altered her whole appearance#she also had arrows of human-slaying so she could have straight up kill the bard in one hit#so in addition to whatever other horrible tricks she had I guess its good she was taken down so quickly#but I wish the paladin hadn't been hardened by what had happened while we were gone#because the old him would have tried to save her#he cared the most for her#and had said multiple times that she had been the best of them#so this whole situation broke my heart
