"was there a reason you didn't cancel this" honestly I thought I had so no there wasn't a reason but also if clients are going to have Your personal number and reach out to You about canceling (when they Should be reaching out via email per our cancelation policy) then You should be canceling the appt anyway imo. all the other trainers cancel their appointments AND add their appointments to the system 🤪
#noah.txt#also I do realize my annoyance is unwarranted but also I'm sosososo tired of this job#she's thinking about closing down for a month for renos and she's not going to pay anyone for that month#and she's not sure if she's going to set it up where we can file unemployment or if she's going to#make us be freelancers under the company name#also she booked an appt but didn't put it in the system and didnt Tell Me and someone put in a booking request for that day/time#and it's frustrating b/c the whole reason she wanted clients to be able to book via the online portal is to#make my job easier/more automated but it's not easier when I'm having to email 5 clients because she cant be fucked to learn the system#then I'm talking to a coworker about how my doctor said I need to get my stress down#and she has the AUDACITY to ask me if she's contributing to the stress#like... yeah you're like the primary stressor in my life because I got hired for an hourly position 2 years ago#yet you treat me like I'm a salary employee who is supposed to be on call#and yeah it's frustrating and stressful to feel like I can never fully relax b/c you might need something#and it's even more frustrating when the things she needs she'll call me about. I. Jealousy *ੈ✩‧₊˚ — when you get jealous
Sunghoon is someone who doesn’t show a lot of affection when there are other people around you both. If a stranger saw the two of you, they might not even think you both are in a relationship because of how casual he is around you in public. You didn’t mind, you didn’t want to make him uncomfortable in anyway, and you respected that (though there were times where he would peck your lips when no one is looking).
But there were times you wish you could just kiss him to show others that he is yours. Like right now.
You always thought you weren’t a jealousy person. What’s there to be jealous about? You know Sunghoon is a loyal person and would never do anything to hurt you. He is a whole green flag, a green forest even.
But you can’t help it when you see girls flirting with him out in the open.
He has asked you out for a night out in a nearby art museum that just opened. Of course you agreed, making sure you were free and don’t have anything else planned, you definitely wouldn’t pass any opportunity to spend time with him.
The night has been going well so far. You two went around to see different exhibitions, taking photos of one another (you even secretly took photos of him when he wasn’t looking because he looked so dreamy).
He was wearing a suit and tie with his glasses on, which you have always told him how handsome he looks with it on. Sunghoon is very handsome in general, but when he wears his glasses on, it just hits different. There’s just something about it that makes your stomach flutter ten times more.
You have also dressed up quite nicely, wearing the dress Sunghoon gifted you for your birthday which wasn’t too long ago. It was a pretty long white dress, and you felt very confident in it. Spending almost two hours doing your hair and makeup, your craft not going unnoticed by your boyfriend.
He is quick to notice your appearance, staring at you in awe when he picked you up from your apartment. He had literal heart eyes for you, a soft smile on his face.
For a quick moment you have left him outside to use the bathroom, to freshen up and all that. Once you got out, you didn’t expect to see him talk to someone, and a woman. And he was smiling?
What caught you off guard is when the girl placed her hand by his bicep, though Sunghoon didn’t seem bothered by it, just nodding to what she was saying. Does she really have to be touchy?
You pouted to yourself, watching the scene in front of you, not knowing if you should let them be or approach them. Before you could even decide, Sunghoon has already spotted you, excusing himself.
“You ready to go and see more exhibits? There’s more upstairs.”
“Hmm, sure.”
Your voice came out soft and quiet, something out of the ordinary as you often talked with such excitement. His thick brows furrowed, but he pushed it off, nodding at you. Maybe you were just getting tired? He thought.
Crossing your arms, you began to walk to the escalator, Sunghoon following by your side. Who was that girl? Is that someone he knows? Or did they just met? Why were they smiling? They looked so happy together. Is that his ex? He never told you about an ex…
You shook your head to yourself, feeling yourself overthink. Stop it, yn.
“Hey… you alright? I can take you home if you’re feeling tired.” Sunghoon looked at you with such concern, both of you getting off the escalator as you got to the next floor up.
You looked up at him, quickly shaking your head. “No! Uh, I’m alright. Don’t worry. I want to see more of the exhibits.” You forced a grin, though it came out so fake that Sunghoon can sense something was definitely wrong.
You got startled when he took your hand, pulling you to the side. Your back was suddenly pressed on a wall, gasping softly as his hand found your hips, looking at him with wide eyes. Your cheeks reddened so quickly, heart beating hastily.
“Is something wrong? You can tell me.”
His eyes stayed on you, waiting for your response, though you felt your throat dry during to how close the two of you are. When you opened your lips, nothing came out.
“Nothing! I just- I…”
“You can tell me what’s wrong. I don’t like seeing you so quiet. It’s weird.”
That made your heart flutter, blinking up at him. He was so close that you could smell his sweet scent, making you feel fuzzy inside.
"I would rather hear you talk non-stop than be quiet. I like hearing you," he whispered softly, feeling his fingers run through your hair, making you feel giddy.
"It's just... it's nothing. It's stupid." you felt yourself pout softly, looking away from him, but you felt his hand grip your chin gently, making you look up at him. "Well it's not stupid if it's bothering you right?"
"The woman earlier. You know her? Is she-"
"She's a childhood friend during my ice skating years. We just quickly catched up, that's all."
Ah, right. You nodded, feeling yourself embarrassed.
"Were you… jealous?"
"What? Why would you ask that." you huffed, suddenly getting defensive. He found it cute how pouty you got, feeling himself smile down at you. Gosh, you're cute.
"You can be friends with anyone you want, I don't care. It's the same with me, I can be friends with whoever, talk to whoever I want. And also, why did she have to be touchy-"
Sunghoon looks at you with adoration, his eyes flickering between your eyes down to your lips. He loves it when you ramble, pouting your lips whenever you do. Your voice was going in from one of his ear to the other, everything in the background becoming a blur.
You were suddenly cut off by Sunghoon's soft lips, your eyes widening before they fluttered shut, putting your hands into a fist as you didn’t know what to do with it.
His lips were hot and plump, his hands going up to your waist, pulling you slightly up, causing you to go on your tippy toes.
You wish you could kiss him for longer, though he definitely took your breath away, pulling away from to the kiss to catch your breath. Your cheeks flushed, as well as your lips, and definitely swollen.
“Sorry. I couldn’t help it… you were talking too much.”
A giggle escaped your lips, looking up at him shyly. “I thought you weren’t a fan of PDA.” you teased, smiling shyly up at him.
“I could do much more if we weren’t in public.”
“Hoon!”
He grinned cheekily, his fangs on display, chuckling lowly. “Cute…”
Your cheeks felt as if they were on fire. He really knew how to make you fold, huh? His eyes never left yours, caressing your waist ever so gently, eyes full of love.
“Why don’t we just go back to my apartment?”
“Hm, are you tired?”
“No.”
“Then why? Aren’t we going to see more exhibits?”
“I did. But now all I want is to able to kiss my pretty girlfriend longer.”

So y/n goes to this game like always everyone knows she’s barzal wife or girlfriend when the fight happens something snaps and she’s like yelling acting like there gonna hear her saying “HEY THATS MY MAN DONT TOUCH HIM LIKE THAT” people are recording her or she lands on the jumbo screen and the guys saying there’s go barzal gf or wife love to see this. They both end up going viral on Twitter mat was over the fight but y/n still was mad and going on and on saying wtf I would of squashed him if I was right there because no one grabs my man like that 😤 mat finds it entertaining because he’s never seen her this worked up and he’s kinda turned on by it knowing she would fight for him LOL even tho he wouldn’t allow it but he ends up kissing her by how in love he is with her maybe gets alittle smutty
now that fight last night was quite something and god Mathew I want you to do it again! but not too often, I need you to keep looking pretty.
wc: 820
cw: alludes to sex, but not really smut (sorry I’m working on other smut rn haha and didn’t have much time to write today)

You turned around from the conversation you were having with a friend to see Mat finally come out of the locker room area. When he was close enough, you could see there was a big red bruise coating his nose and part of his cheek from the fight he was in earlier. “Aw, baby, are you ok?”
“Perfectly fine.” His smile was sweet and crooked as he wrapped his arms around you. Your lips brushed gently against his bruised skin then finally landed on his lips.
Once you were sure he was fine, you pulled apart and playfully punched him in the chest. “What the hell were you thinking? Fighting? Maty! You know my rule, no teeth, no wedding.”
He laughed. “I know your absolutely ridiculously absurd rule. Don’t worry, I’ll have all of my teeth for the big day.” He kissed the top of your head, still getting excited at the mention of your wedding even after months of being engaged and it being pretty much all planned already. “And he attacked me. I wasn’t about the back down. I’m not scared of a little fight.”
A rush of heat flowed through you, seeing him get worked up again. And you had to admit, as much as you hated the fighting aspect of hockey, it was kind of hot seeing Mat defend himself and get into a little brawl.
“And it looks like you’re not as mad as you’re pretending to be.” He totally picked up on your vibes.
“Alright, so maybe it was a little hot to watch,” you admitted. “But don’t make it a regular thing.”
“Sure about that?” His eyebrows raised and a little mischievous grin appeared as he pulled you closer to him by your hips.
“At least not until after the wedding. I need you looking pretty for the pictures.”
“Alright, no more fights until the wedding.”
———
“Ok, so maybe I will keep up the fights if you’re going to be this turned on afterwards,” Mat mumbled out of breath when you rolled off him, back onto the mattress.
“You made a promise,” you responded, yelping when his lips were back on your skin in seconds. His teeth graded your neck, down your naked chest.
“It’s very hard to resist.” He came back up to kiss you passionately. You had lost count of the amount of times you had sex within the last few hours of coming home from the game, sleeping, and waking up to more sex.
“Alright, get off me I’m starving.” He fell back into the pillows with a laugh, but instead of getting up to go to the kitchen, you grabbed your phone for your daily morning phone time. Mat did the same.
To your surprise, there were a ton of notifications. Texts, instagram, twitter, etc. And also from people you didn’t even know. A quick investigation told you that you were in fact the reason for all the fuss.
“You seen this?” Mat had the same expression on his face, as he was looking through the exact same type of notifications. People sending a video of you from the game last night, yelling during Mat’s fight. The person who filmed it was too far away to pick up audio, but based on reading your lips, people could tell you were yelling something the lines of ‘HEY THATS MY MAN DONT TOUCH HIM LIKE THAT’.
You looked to Mat for his reaction, but he was just laying there, naked, watching the video over and over again, his jaw slowly dropping. You watched him nervously, internally cringing that a video of you like that was currently trending. Mat finally faced you.
“My girl.” He laughed and was back on top of you in seconds. “My feisty girl. And here I thought you were upset I was fighting, but you would have easily stepped in.”
“I was just trying to protect your pretty face.” He smiled wide and started attacking you with kisses, sucking and biting your skin.
“I had no idea you could get so worked up.”
“I’ve been hanging around you for too long.” He chuckled and kissed you deeply. You could never get enough of him.
“Protecting me. I’m supposed to be the one protecting you.”
“You clearly need it.” You loved teasing him, especially since his kisses got more intense the longer it went on.
“I’m pretty sure I won that fight last night, so I can protect myself.” He got on his knees and his lips wandered down your body. One of his hands grabbed your breast, massaging it, while his lips started assaulting the other. He licked around your nipple, sucking and biting it playfully. “But my job is to take care of you.”
He moved further down the mattress, getting ahold of your thighs and roughly pulling them apart. “Now be a good girl and let me do my job.”

Tumblr media
daryl dixon was something of a fearless warrior, and also a fearful worrier.
you liked the commonwealth, as much as one could when filled with the doubtful thoughts that whoever was in charge, would soon betray your people. when you got to the commonwealth, daryl was the one who seemed most worried. you were worried too, until you tasted the cotton candy they had to offer and you were sure this was a good place.
daryl became a trooper while you worked at the bakery, alongside your good friend carol. carol was possibly one of the best workers in there. you liked to think that your baked treats were nice but nothing could ever compare to carol’s sugar cookies.
with you and carol being so close, she knew you and daryl had been itching to spend more time together. while you could enjoy the commonwealth as much as your ability would allow you to, you couldn’t deny the fact that you missed daryl. it seemed as though he was always working, always picking up shifts or being given them by the governors son.
for some reason, he threw tasks at him like he had something to prove.
nonetheless, daryl worked tirelessly and endlessly until finally, he got a day off.
the kids would be in school until three, so you both decided that it was finally time for you guys to spend some time together, just the two of you.
you’d walked into the bakery two days early, grinning from ear to ear though carol was already changing your shifts, putting her on yours so you’d get the day off. when you’d stared at her with an open mouth, she’d only winked. “daryl told me.” she’d shrugged.
everything had fallen into place smoothly.
daryl was old enough, much older than you, he’d been on plenty dates before and he’d been with you for what felt like forever.
yet he still couldn’t stop the nerves from swarming in his stomach.
he’d arrived to the caffé early, at least he thought he was early seeing as you were nowhere to be seen.
then a couple moments went by, one of the workers walked himself outside to where he was sitting, asking him if he was ready to order.
daryl suddenly felt worry eat at his stomach, and it was nothing like the nerves from before. there was pre-apocalyptic nerves like taking your girlfriend out on a date and then there was the post-apocalyptic nerves, the sullen worry that something had gone terribly wrong.
he cleared his throat, glancing at the menu in front of him. “‘m waiting for someone.” he gruffed out to which the waiter smiled.
the man had a cloth draped across his arm, looking sufficient as ever. daryl thought he looked stupid. “right. take your time.”
though it appeared to be you that was taking your time.
daryl worried easily. perhaps it was due to how many people he’s lost. perhaps it was because nowadays, it seemed like you were the only one that truly mattered to him anymore. nonetheless, he barely waited a half hour before slinging back on his sleeveless leather jacket, face screwed up as his boot covered feet found themselves stalking across the town.
he owned a little apartment, one that had rather noisy neighbours. you owned a large, three bedroom house, always inviting daryl and the kids over. truth be told, the kids rathered your house than they did his little apartment.
daryl didn’t know how he ended up standing in front of your house so quickly but he didn’t bother to try recall his events, instead, he brought his fist up to the grey door, knocking down on it harshly.
he received no answer.
worry ate him from the inside.
you were fine, you were fine. you had to be fine.
as fine as you may have been, it didn’t stop him from applying his body weight on the door, shoving it open. he watched as your lock fell broken on the ground, pursing his lips and making a mental note to buy you another.
the common wealth was strange and so was having to worry about money again.
the man found himself walking up your stairs. he called out your name once, then twice.
he received no answer.
it wasn’t until he stood in front of your bedroom door, creaking it open when he felt slight relief.
he could make out the strands of your hair that sat atop your baby pink pillow. he walked further into the room, your curtains were still closed. then, he could make out the way your brows had strewn themselves together.
your face looked uncomfortable.
he wasted no time in waking you. “baby, get up.” his large hands were placed on your smaller body, gently rocking your body. it was unlikely for you to be sleeping this late, you were the kind of girl that went to bed early and rose the same.
you woke with an uncomfortable noise leaving your lips, a type of whimper as you screwed your eyes shut.
“wh’s wrong, hm?” instead of being angry that you missed your date, he instead sat himself on the bed, fingers brushing away the strands of your hair. his brows furrowed when he placed the back of his hand on your forehead, feeling the scorching skin. “you’re burnin’ up.”
you offered up to response to that. “what time is it?” your voice was scratchy and broken, blinking heavily and slowly as you tried to rise from the bed.
instead of helping you up, he practically forced your body back down to the bed. “why didn’t you tell me you were sick?”
your lips turned into a type of pout. “did i miss our date?” you’d been looking forward to it for ages.
“no matter about lunch.” he waved you off, focusing on the more important task at hand. “how long you been feelin’ like this, sweetheart?” the way his tone seemed to rest so gently was enough for your insides to feel almost warm.
you shrugged your shoulders, feeling drowsy as ever. “a day… i think.”
a sigh left his lips. he’d been so preoccupied with his new job that he’d hardly had time for anything anymore. I mean, it was you who was getting judith and rj up in the morning, making sure they were dressed and ready for school. by the time he woke, you’d have them off and made his breakfast.
“daryl…” his eyes snapped back to you, ridding his thoughts. “i don’t feel so good.”
and there it was.
the sick-anxiety.
“okay, let’s get you sat up.” he helped you into a seated position beneath the blankets, your brows were scrunched together, eyes weary.
he knew how anxious you got when it came to being ill, that was why he was thankful you never did.
“how’s the stomach, huh? not feelin’ good?” you only shook your head at him, eyes beginning to sting. “okay, that’s okay, jus’ relax f’me.”
your eyes were slightly wide and watery as they followed his movements. he crossed the room, grasping the bin that sat by your door. he glanced inside, taking out the single piece of plastic and placing it on the desk as a later problem.
now that the bin was empty, he manoeuvred it towards the bed.
“think you’re gonna be sick?” you looked a little green but shook your head nonetheless. he nodded before peeling the blankets back, sitting his body next to your own. sick and all, all he’d ever want is to be close to you. “why didn’t you tell me? could’a helped.”
you shrugged your shoulders, placing your head against his strong arm. “i missed the date.” you spoke all pouty.
he couldn’t help the way his lips quirked up. even in your own sickness, all you worried about was that damned date. “s just lunch, darlin’.” placing your hair behind your ear. “can get it any day.”
in attempts to not look too bummed out, you glanced down to his hand which he’d interlinked with yours. “not with your job.”
he caught on to the sadness etched in your voice right away. he cleared his throat. “‘s just for a little longer, promise.”
it took a couple moments for your breathing to become slightly shallow. his eyes traced over you gently, waiting for any sudden movements. even though your mouth hadn’t so much as opened, his hand was still inching towards the bin that sat at the edge of the bed. “daryl.” your voice sounded much more broken than before. “‘m gonna…”
he didn’t need to be told twice.
skillfully, the man grabbed the bucket before your sentence could even finish. he placed it on the bed before you, helping your head hover over it as you emptied the contents of your stomach into the bin. he heard you half cry while throwing up, and he shushed you quietly.
“‘s okay, you’re okay.” while you held the bin, he used one hand to gather your hair, keeping it away from the sick bucket while the other hand rubbed gently up and down your back. “doin’ so good.” you could barely hear him now. his words were muffled and fell against deaf ears as you focused everything on finishing.
he waited until your head rose from the bin before taking it from your grasp, shushing you and helping you towards the bathroom.
sooner or later, he ended up flushing the contents down the toilet, using pieces of kitchen paper and antibacterial spray to wash the bin out while you brushed your teeth.
he’d been praising you the entire way while you stayed silent, sniffling.
it was no secret that the anxiety was eating you from the inside out. he knew this was the hardest part, though. the first time is always the worst but hopefully it was only a bug and it would subside in a couple hours.
once you finished with your teeth, placing the toothbrush against the counter, you turned back to the man. he simply gave you a look of sympathy. “c’mere.”
and you didn’t have to be told twice.
you kept your head hidden in his arms, letting the fat tears fall against your cheeks. you felt so stupid for crying, it only made you cry more. and that caused daryl to shush you. “It’s okay, it’s all over, baby.” though it mightn’t have been, he still chose to keep the positivity. he didn’t judge you for the way you cried like a downright baby, instead, his hands moved to gently caress you, lips pressing kisses against the crown of your head and sweet nothings falling from his lips. “did so good, my brave girl.” and hearing his words did help, it lulled you in a way that beat the anxiety that crawled up your throat.
he waited until you’d calmed down a little before tucking you back into bed.
it didn’t take long for sleep to succumb over you then. he sat with you for many moments after that, gently playing with the loose strands of your hair and not the ones that were stuck to your face.
with the fever that you had, he assumed a headache would only follow.
deciding to be careful enough not to wake you, he crawled out of the bed to grab you some aspirin, knowing you’d need it by the time you woke.
and he was right.
as soon as your eyes had peeled themselves open, you were whining. he couldn’t help but smile at you, such a whiner. but it was okay, because you had him to shush you and coo at you, telling you everything would be alright.
after your relentless whines, he reached over to the television, grasping the remote and switching it on. “what’re we watching?” you asked, yawning to yourself. today had been a long day, and you hadn’t even made it out of bed.
daryl was thankful that carol was taking the kids after school and keeping them for the night. while it was supposed to be for other reasons, he was still glad that he could spend the time with you, even if you were sweating like a pig. “what do you wanna watch?”
“you pick.” nuzzling into him even further.
it was as if his touch could heal all. he still found himself chuckling. “you’re letting me pick? maybe i like sick y/n even more than the better one.”
you tried not to frown. “don’t be mean.”
daryl only laughed to himself, gently pressing a kiss against the frown of your head. “‘m sorry.” now you found yourself rolling your eyes. “your forehead’s still hot.” he commented, lips pressed into a thin line. “we gotta do somethin’ to bring down that temperature.”
you furrowed your brows, looking up at him with doey eyes. “how?”
he ripped the blankets from your body.
“hey!”

Monkey Chase
I stepped off the loading ramp and got a good view of the reason why we’d landed in the wrong part of the spaceport. A giant cargo hauler lay on its side, broken and bent — had a ship crashed into it, or had the engine exploded? I couldn’t tell from here — and large slabs of spaceship insulation gel sprawled everywhere. The hauler’s cargo, clearly. As I watched, three people with a hovercart tried to shove one aside to no effect, and another slab as big as a cross-section from my old apartment on Earth slowly peeled off from inside the remains of the hauler. It hit the ground with the squishiest thud I’d ever heard - the thing was the color of smoke, but dense enough to make the ground vibrate from here.
I whistled, then regretted it when the tentacle alien on the ramp beside me scrunched up at the sound. “Sorry,” I told Mur.
“Ow,” he said, uncurling his blue-black tentacles. “Was that a human swear? It’s sharp.”
“More of a ‘wow-look-at-that’ kind of noise,” I said. “But swearing would sure be appropriate. What a mess.”
“You said it. Glad it’s not our problem.”
Captain Sunlight came down the ramp to join us, regal as ever in the bright yellow scales that had given her the name. “Our client isn’t answering,” she said. “I’ve put in a request at the local medcenter to see if they’ve been injured in this crisis, but haven’t heard back yet. Anyone interested is welcome to join me in walking over to where their ship was meant to be parked.”
Three other crewmates followed her out of the ship: Blip and Blop in their flowiest silks that both matched their fin colors and also showed off their biceps, and Zhee with his purple exoskeleton as shiny as always. They all made quiet noises of dismay at the state of the spaceport.
(Well, Blip and Blop seemed dismayed. Zhee was looking down his nonexistent nose at whoever had been careless enough to cause such a mess.)
Mur waved a tentacle. “Lead the way,” he said to the captain. “Here’s hoping the ship isn’t buried under all that.”
“Yeah, it looks heavy,” I said as we moved out. “I wouldn’t be surprised if a little ship could be crushed under that, especially if it also took damage from whatever kaboom happened in the first place.”
As we got closer, I made several observations in a range of importance. A medical shuttle was zipping off toward the city center while another appeared to be waiting around just in case; the medics were standing there chatting instead of tending to anyone. The gel slabs couldn’t be pushed, though they could be lifted with a big enough gravity platform. There was only one of those here. Cleanup was going to take a while. The slabs covered a large area of ground as well as a couple ship-sized lumps, turning the spaceport into a sea of smoky gray translucent rubber.
A small creature bounced around on it. People were shouting about that.
“What’s going on over there?” I asked.
Captain Sunlight sighed deeply and sped up. “I really hope that’s not our cargo.”
“Our cargo’s an animal?”
“Yes, among other things. I thought I told you, but I guess not; it was a last-minute addition to our load. Someone’s exotic pet.” She looked up at me with concern on her lizardy face. “How are your animal-catching skills?”
“Depends on the animal,” I said, squinting at the fast-moving thing. I was the critter expert on the ship, but I didn’t want to promise anything. “What species is it?”
“I’ll bring up the description in a moment,” Captain Sunlight said. “I think I see our client over there.”
She was right. The slender Frillian with a leash and an exasperated expression did turn out to be the person we’d come to meet, and the various spaceport officials on the scene had no any easy answers about how to catch his pet.
“Normally he comes running for food!” the client exclaimed. “But he’s got plenty to pick from here!” He pointed accusingly at the spill of fruit from a truck smashed open by a slab of gel.
“Oh, like that’s my fault?” said a Heatseeker who was busy gathering fruit. “Half my stock is ruined! Go catch your little menace and stop complaining.”
This led to a rant about how impossible the menace in question was to catch when he didn’t want to be — giving him a bath had to be done by trickery — and he was never going to come down from this playground full of food, and oh the man should have just paid for a transit that allowed him to bring pets.
Zhee muttered agreement at that last, but I don’t think the guy heard him. Spaceport officials offered calming words and a reminder that nets had been sent for.
Captain Sunlight asked one of them, “Is there an animal-handling service anywhere nearby?”
“Nowhere close,” was the answer.
She looked back up at me. “Any bright ideas? Here, I’ll show you the description.”
While she unfolded a screen and brought up the information from this particular courier gig, I watched the jumpy creature carefully. He was close enough for a good look now, since he’d come back to snatch another alien citrus off the ground, making the owner yell after him.
My first thought was “monkey,” followed by “frog.” The animal was long-limbed and green, though with velvety fur instead of an amphibian’s shine, and had a tail that could hold fruit just as well as his hands could. Pointy nose, round ears, and the biggest eyes of anyone here except for Zhee. He could probably see a person sneaking up from behind. He was fast. And he was clearly having a great time jumping from one bouncy surface to another, making chattering noises and spitting citrus peel everywhere.
“It’s called a treeleaper,” Captain Sunlight told me. “Warmblooded, diurnal, omnivorous, and ‘a bit of a troublemaker.’”
Mur snorted. “Sounds like your species,” he told me.
“Just with a tail,” Zhee added.
“I wanted a tail as a kid,” I said absently, thinking hard. I’d just caught sight of a shipful of humans disembarking nearby, on the other side of the biggest pile of gel. They looked like they were in pretty good shape. One was already walking on the gel and laughing about the bounce.
I had an idea. “Excuse me, Captain. I think I see reinforcements,” I said, then ran off toward my unsuspecting kinfolk. When I got close, I took great pleasure in yelling, “Hey humans! Who wants to help me chase a monkey across a trampoline??”
They were all smiles and questions, then when I led the way to where they could see the monkey-frog jumping around with stolen fruit, they volunteered immediately.
“I’ll get the small cargo net!”
“Do you think the big gravity wands will slow it down?”
“Bet you a cleaning shift that I can grab it in a towel.”
“You’re on!”
I told Captain Sunlight that I had successfully recruited some animal-catchers, and she didn’t bat an eye, just suggesting that our crew gather similar tools from our own ship. Zhee and the twins rushed off while Mur stayed to yell suggestions.
The other humans were already venturing into the bounce zone. I hurried to follow, grabbing a fist-sized lime thing from the ground as I did. We made a wide circle before closing in.
The treeleaper saw us coming, of course. Threw a half-eaten fruit at one person and made a rude noise at another, then sprang up to ricochet between surfaces like an unholy pinball.
Thus began a merry chase.
It brought back memories of bouncy houses and birthday parties at the trampoline gym. The gel was tough enough to take an impact without doing more than denting briefly and launching a person hooting into the air, to rebound off another surface and hopefully not smack into anyone else in midair. There were a couple close calls. But that just made everything funnier somehow.
I jumped off one gel wall with and hit another with my shoulder, making the monkey-frog turn a 180 back towards a pair of guys with gravity wands. He tried to spring away to the side, but I threw my lime to bounce off a surface nearby, spooking him enough to change direction yet again. Somebody slid down a gel slab like a rubbery playground slide, yelping as that turned into a wild tumble. The animal didn’t know what to make of all the flailing and laughter. His hesitation was enough for the gravity wands to lift him partway off the gel, then when he stuck a leg out far enough to jump free, he was immediately bagged by a grinning lady with a cargo net.
Everybody cheered.
The treeleaper growled and tried to scramble free, but no luck. Somebody else caught up and helped tie the net off with a scarf. Everyone settled down to minimal bouncing, and many hands worked together to carry the bundle of ropes and disgruntled animal back to solid ground.
“You got him! Is he okay? He didn’t sprain anything in that net, did he? I hope he didn’t eat too much fruit. He’ll do that if given the chance, you know.” The owner was grateful and worried and relieved and talkative.
Eggskin had arrived from our ship with a medical scanner, and thankfully they could put everyone’s mind at ease about the state of our animal cargo. The treeleaper was fine. It had a stomach full of fruit and a bloodstream full of adrenaline, but all it needed was a nice nap in its carrying cage.
I considered asking why it hadn’t been in the carrier before, when the rented shuttle got its windows smashed, but I didn’t.
A small hand patted my back, as far up as it could reach. “Earning your keep once again,” said Captain Sunlight.
I laughed. “That was my pleasure.”
Another human lingering nearby asked, “Is there anything else that needs catching? That was great.”
“Yeah, you should sell tickets to this!” agreed another.
A Frillian in a port uniform said, “No, but thank you.” She paused, then added, “Hm. I wonder if that’s worth suggesting to the owner of all this insulation. It’s useless for its intended purpose now that it’s breached the sanitation shielding.”
I smiled. “It still makes an excellent trampoline even with footprints all over it. Lay those out in an empty field and charge people entrance, and they could make back a decent amount of money. You get plenty humans through this port, right?”
The woman who’d caught the treeleaper said, “We’re here early for a family reunion before the big festival, then there are three or four sporting events in a row. Let us know if that does happen, because we can get you a lot of humans interested in jumping on this stuff.”
I had to leave with the animal cargo back to our courier ship, so I didn’t hear how the rest of the conversation went, but I saw the official bring the representative of the hauling group over to meet the humans. He looked very interested in what the spokesperson had to say.
I grinned at the scene as I walked away: the intense conversation in front of the vast playground of bouncy surfaces. I wondered if we’d get a chance to come back for a visit when they got it set up properly.

Hellooooo, 🌬️ here back at it again :)
So, reader is walking home and she’s alone. It’s late, and the street she’s passing through is empty. All of a sudden a bunch of dudes appear from the shadows and start giving her crap. She’s pretty scared but, lo and behold, boxer!Jason materialises to save the day! (Or, well, night in this case but oh well-). Have i piqued your interest with this scenario? As always much love😚
a/n: back at it again with the requests!! thank you a thousand times over!!! you certainly have my interest I'm gonna twist it a bit but I think you'll like it <333333
You wouldn't be walking down this street but it's a hard situation you found yourself in. Boxer!Jason is waiting for you at the taqueria a couple blocks from his apartment. And suddenly decided to rain as you were on your walk.
While you didn't have an umbrella, you did have sense. You would cut through a few blocks instead of taking the long way and ending up more drenched.
Well, you did have sense. You just didn't realize other people didn't have sense.
On a street block that's way too empty, a few brazen idiots come up to you. Talking about how you should seek shelter until the rain passes, and of course that shelter being in one of their places. One told you you'd catch a cold with those wet clothes and it was best to take them off.
You, with your smart mouth and your quick wit, answer them. It's not like you didn't understand how scary the situation you're in is. There's four of them and one of you. But you figure you can curse and shout and also run at the same time.
And that's what you do. You cruse them. You flip them off as pick up the pace.
When one of them sends an awfully sharp whistle away, you turn back. They're all standing there egging you on. You forget to look back, and because of that you run into something. No, someone.
You look up.
boxer!Jason.
"Jay! Oh thank everything right now, I was on my way to you." you speak.
Boxer!Jason frowns, "What happened to sticking to main streets?"
"The rain!" you answer and point to the sky.
It's not like he couldn't see it. The rani is still coming down now. It's making his hair wet and stick down. And his clothes stick to his body. Your'e thinking unthinkable things, you are incorrigible. Just down right bad.
"You want me to handle that?" he asks.
"No, you've got a fight coming up next weekend. Save it for then. Let's go get food." you reply.
Boxer!Jason takes his jacket off and holds it over your head and beckons you on with him to the taqueria.

Fight The Feeling 18 Exposed
Summary- You and Jack find out that someone told TMZ about Jack cheating on you.
Warnings- hints at eating disorders and talk about weight
Tumblr media
You and Jack had told your teams that you wanted a minimum of three months where you didn’t focus on work. So when Neelam and Claire showed up at your apartment six weeks in, you knew it was serious. Jack answered the door, letting them in, Maple at Jack’s feet, barking at them.
Neelam walked in first, looking at the dog then looking at Jack confused.
“Since when did either of you have a dog?” Neelan asked.
“This is Maple, I got her about three weeks ago,” Jack said, picking up the dog to calm her so she wouldn’t wake up Madelyn from her nap that you just put her down for. Even though your managers said it was urgent, you both made them wait until Madelyn was down for a nap, which you were all still getting onto a schedule, but you were able to get her to fall asleep in time.
“I have so many questions, but that’s not what we’re here for. Where’s Y/N?”
“She’s checking on Madi, she’ll be out in a second.” Jack said as the three of them sat in the living room. You walked out of the hallway a few minutes later.
“Hey, what’s going on?” You asked as you sat down next to Jack.
“Someone is contacting TMZ about the cheating story. They are trying to make money off of the situation and all the attention you two are getting right now. We don’t know who it is, luckily I have a good relationship with them, so they brought it to me first, but they are running the story. Who knows about the cheating?” Claire asked.
“Us,” Jack said, referencing to the room, “Urban, Alexa, not many people know, I can’t see Alexa telling, Urban for sure wouldn’t, we’ve kept it very secretive so it doesn’t get out.” You saw Claire’s face go a couple shades paler than she usually was.
“Well, we wanted to warn you two, Claire said the article is coming out tonight, so we wanted to also see if you were willing to do an appearance in a few days. It doesn’t have to be anything big, but some fans are picking up on your relationship being fake, so now with this article coming out, I don’t even know what kind of backlash we’re going to face.” Neelam said.
“Can’t we just drop all this fake relationship shit now? Our relationship isn’t fake anymore, I don’t know why we need to keep this shit up. Why can’t we just live our lives?” Jack asked.
“Because if it was up to the two of you, you would never show your faces in public again?” Neelam teased and Jack opened his mouth to say something but you cut him off.
“She’s not wrong.”
“Anyway’s, I have to leave, but we just wanted to give you guys a heads-up,” Claire said before saying her goodbyes.
“I’m staying because I want Madelyn cuddles, but I also wanted to talk to you about Claire. I feel like something’s weird about this.”
“You felt that way too?” You asked and Neelam nodded.
“What do you mean?” Jack asked.
“I mean, for one, she says TMZ told her about the article, but I didn’t get told, no one on our side did. She kept mentioning to me that other people must have known. I really feel like Alexa wouldn’t have told anyone either, she’s not going to get anything but backlash from this. She’s the one who wants to keep this going, I’ve been trying to find ways to get you out of this, but she always shuts everything down. Is it that wild of a thought that the reason she has such a good relationship with TMZ is because she gives them information?” Neelam explained. Even though you hadn’t known Neelam for a full year, you felt more comfortable with her than you did Claire, even though Claire signed you at 16.
“But why would she do this now?” Jack asked.
“I tried to get out of my contract early? Maybe it’s retaliation?”
“But why would she retaliate against her own client?” Jack asked you.
“Claire and I have never had a good relationship. She’s always acted like my friend, but I know that she doesn’t care. Like, when I found out I was pregnant for example, she didn’t care that I was pregnant, she just cared that I was delaying the meeting. Even after the meeting all she cared about was making sure I didn’t gain too much weight before my upcoming shoots.” Jack reached over and grabbed your hand. “I know she doesn’t have to care about me, and that it’s her job to be focused on my career, but it’s hard to not let that impact me sometimes. I mean, she even has a diet and work-out plan she wants me to start once I’m cleared by my doctor.”
“Don’t you have lawyers to help get you out of your contract?” Neelam asked, you shook your head.
“No, all my lawyers go through her, they are technically my lawyers, but they cover her too,” You explained. “My contract's almost up anyway, it’s okay. I don’t want to quit, I just wanted to take a break, but I’ll just work for a couple of months and then take a break.”
“Get her my lawyers,” Jack told Neelam. “If you want out of your contract, my lawyers can get you out of your contract.”
“Well, they can try,” Neelam cut in, not wanting to promise you anything.
“If they can’t, we’ll figure another way to get you out of it. Why have you not told me any of this?” Jack asked.
“I didn’t think it was worth mentioning if there wasn’t anything I could do about it,” You sighed. “And I’ve been dealing with her since I was 16, it’s not like it was like this at the beginning, and I thought it was normal for a while. It wasn’t until I was around the two of you that I really noticed it. You care about Jack as a person, not just as someone who makes you money.”
“The fact that someone can spend so much time with another person and not care about them, is so shocking to me.” You heard the sounds of Madelyn waking up coming through the baby monitor you had placed on the end table. “Can I go get her?” Neelam asked excitedly, she hadn’t seen Madelyn in a couple of days, and she missed her already.
“If you want to change her diaper, sure,” Jack said, before Neelam shook her head.
“I’m okay, I’ll see her in a few minutes,” She said and Jack laughed before standing up and walking to Madelyn’s room, leaving you and Neelam alone.
“I don’t want you to feel like you have to help me just because Jack wants to-” You stared talking, but she cut you off.
“I’m helping you because I want to. I know how bad some managers can be at controlling the people they represent, and I’m sure you’re downplaying the situation to Jack because you don’t want him to flip out, but I’ve hated every interaction I’ve had with her, and I can see the way she treats you, and I hate that as well. I think Jack noticed it too, he’s made comments to me about it, but he didn’t want to seem like he was controlling you. I mean, he even only took three months off because that’s all you could get, and he didn’t want it to rub it in.”
“Yeah, but our jobs are different, he has songs that can be released any day, modeling isn’t like that.” You don’t know why you were defending Claire. You had forgiven her hundreds of times for the way she treated you over the years, and you wanted to stop forgiving her.
As cliché as it sounded, having Madelyn changed you. You knew if someone had treated her like Claire treated you, you would never forgive them, so why did you let her treat you badly and forgive her. Forgiving Jack was a bit different. Your relationship was doing really well over the last few months, and you didn’t want to backtrack on any of the progress you made, but you knew if he ever messed up again, you weren’t forgiving him.
“Stop justifying it. You want a break, that’s a perk of the job. I think time off would do you and Jack good, focus on your relationship, your family. Some things are more important than work,” Neelam said as Jack walked in carrying Madelyn. Jack handed Madelyn to Neelam who instantly cuddled her.
Neelam hung out for about an hour, before she left, you walked her to the door.
“I know Jack likes to fix things, and you like to be independent, but let us try to fix this, okay?” Neelam asked and you nodded.
“Okay.”
“I’m going to do my absolute best to get you out of your contract and you out of your relationship contract. If I can’t, I know Jack will find someone who can. He would do anything for you.”
“I know,” You smiled softly.
"I'm going to figure out who sold the cheating story too."

Astarion is more than a pretty face.
Sooooo many thoughts on this character. One could spend hours picking apart details and cannons. So here is one of mine.
Tumblr media
He is not a "Pretty Idiot"
I don't think Astarion is "unintelligent" at all. Some people argue that certain lines within the game suggest it, such as the mind flayer at the epilogue party saying he has a less wrinkled brain, or his epic plan to kill Cazador.
First, there is nothing that says mind flayers can see your brain through your skull. So the less wrinkled comment is an assumption based off of what the companion knows about him through interaction. And as far as the epic plan goes, there is a reason there is no detail to it. He doesn't trust his own ideas.
Walk with me.
Imagine you have spent two hundred years being told everything about you is worthless. Imagine being asked questions just be torn apart for not answering "correctly". Imagine spending so much time in fight or flight your brain defaults to Neverland just to escape your reality. Imagine having to mask specific aspects of your personality to appease others.
These are all real side effects to mental and physical abuse. And it is game fact that Astarion was seriously abused on unimaginable levels. I'm sure Cazaloser enjoyed taking every scrap of self worth Astarion had and I'm sure he beat the hell out of him with it. And if there is anything a narcissist loves to do, its make sure their victims believe they are stupid and worthless.
I think he is intelligent. He just doesn't trust himself to make the "right" decisions anymore. Not early on anyway. His disassociation probably causes him to "black out" and miss key info about situations most of the time anyway. Also, he probably has a deep fear of being blamed if something goes wrong. So he makes his opinions vague and your idea so he always has a foot out the door if he is challenged. Smart tactic. Manipulative AF, but ..smart.
I also think this because certain things change after you complete his quest and kill the * insert colorful and appropriate adjective here*.
He starts to make definite decisions. Such as choosing you without being vague or making it your idea. He's straight forward and decisive about it.
He starts giving more thoughtful opinions. Such as what he says about Dame Aylin after she feels off about killing Lorrokan. That's a complete and connective opinion. Not just. "Oh, I don't know."
He stops depreciating things he likes. He says he hates puns, but uses them quite often. And puns take a certain level of wit to pull off.
His voice drops. Ending sentences on an upward inflection appear less threatening. Like throwing a smiley face at the end of a comment you are worried will elicit a negative response from if you dont. Post kill, more of his responses end on a downward inflection. The mask is dropping. He was smart enough to realize changing his voice would help him stay safe. Hmm...
Not a pretty idiot. Just pretty complicated.
Just my opinion.

Maxwell hcs to complete my collection
-my biggest one is that she’s trans(!!) When she came out in her late teenage years, her family became very aggressive towards her which led to her getting a restraining order against them. Being accepted into MIT at such an early time was a huge relief for her because it allowed her to be more open about her identity and to acquire the necessary medical treatments and surgeries she needed. Later on when she accepted the job at Goddard, the first person she told about being trans was Kepler, who said something along the lines of that he recruited her for her brain and the rest didn’t matter to him in the grand scheme of things. The autonomy that Kepler gave her made Maxwell trust him greatly, so he was the first to “know” (he already knew, obviously, so the technical first person she told this about to was Jacobi)
-always dehydrated. Girl is is never in a state of bodily harmony
-takes every moment she can to talk about her work. She could be in a gas station at three in the morning and telling the cashier about a recent breakthrough and they’re just nodding along
-this one’s pretty much canon but since she isn’t in contact with her bio family, she always celebrates holidays with Kepler and Jacobi. Most the time it’s going to Kepler’s place for a meal or Jacobi’s for a game or movie night. Kepler rarely goes to game nights though cause he’s a sore loser. Maxwell wins most the time at strategic games and Jacobi gets annoyingly lucky on chance games. Uno and monopoly are banned.
-insomniac. A terrible habit from college that stuck around into her adulthood
-Walmart has pistachio flavored muffins and I think Maxwell would love them. (Personal note: my family just got a pack of them today when they were stocked. I’m thrilled at the prospect of being able to have a pistachio muffin tomorrow.)
-she and Jacobi picked up a lot of each others work as their friendship went on, so Maxwell knows a good bit of demolition work and Jacobi knows an above average amount about the nuances of AI
-on that note, Maxwell also often mimics the people she’s around (you can decide if it’s an autistic thing for her or just a Maxwell thing for yourself). Because she works closely with AI (non-human beings), she uses mimicry as a social mechanism to appear more “friendly” of sorts
-still in contact with her oldest sibling. They were really close as kids and due to the backlash against Maxwell after she came out, they were forced to grow distant and lost contact fully for a couple years. Her sibling eventually found Maxwell again while she was a senior at MIT, and they started to build back up their relationship again since then. Her sibling was the first to know about the new mission for the SI-5 to be sent up to Wolf 359.
-inexplicable love for fig newtons. (I’m projecting sorry. It will happen again)
-round blue light glasses! Just a fun little thought I have about her appearance. Very heavy duty glasses, was made by someone in the engineering sector of Goddard
-her apartment has a lot of mismatched furniture. The chairs at her table are all different, the couple pieces of furniture are all different colors and textures, an excessive amount of lamps, a bookshelf with a lot more than just books on it, and so on.
-her favorite fruit are raspberries
-the only sport she has ever done (and enjoyed) is rollerblading. Idk this is another one that feels right in my heart. It’s real to me
-always wanted to go to Spain. I think she’d have thrived tbh
-she clocked onto Jacobi’s “complicated feelings” for Kepler immediately. Gaydar off the charts. She teased him mercilessly for at least a week.
-all of her biro pens are worn down on the base end because shes subconsciously hitting them on whatever table she’s working at
-the only one out of the SI-5 that enjoys the fortune cookie wafers from the Chinese orders. She always has Jacobi (and Kepler if he’s around at the time) choose one for the fortune and then gives the cookie to her. In addition, she keeps all her own fortune papers in a glass jar in her apartment on the bookshelf. The metal top has a small slit in it so she can just slip the paper in. She has a small scar on one palm from when she was cutting out the piece of metal from the middle.
-speaking of hands, she’s ambidextrous to me. She taught herself how to utilize both hands when she was in elementary school for efficiency sake and it became a very useful skill later on when she was doing primarily computer work.
-learned how to write in multiple forms of shorthand because she was bored. When she’s taking hand written notes, she’ll switch between standard English and shorthand every so often, normally to abbreviate a long train of thought.
I was having some trouble wording this one but there’s some Maxwell hcs to finish off the SI-5 hc chronicles

°˖𓍢ִ໋ 🔧✧°🥐.⋆(Trois)
He won’t be so Shocked because he knew that day would come and before you guye were apart he has been noticing a little cuties changes about you!.
But he was so happy to be involved with you again, i don’t think he would mind being in relationships with you but he also liked being your friend!.
He was the one that came up to you first, and was so chill about it like, “hey Y/N how have you been?, you look stunning!” and you were like “HUH?!” i mean who would’ve thought he remembered you!.
He’s the gentleman he is so he will complement you every second.
Now that his friend is more girly, Trois would feel a stronger protective instinct towards you. Even though he knows they’re still tough deep down, he might be more mindful of how people treat them and wouldn’t hesitate to step in if anyone disrespects them.
Besides your different look and style ,Trois would quickly recognize that, deep down, you are still the same person he grew up with. He’d feel comfortable around you, and your bond would pick up as if no time had passed.

. ݁₊ ⊹ 🍯. ݁˖ . 🎯݁༉‧₊˚.(Honey)
Ofc he is Shocked what do you mean the girl that used to wear the same boxers instead of panties is now a fully gorgeous woman! .
He didn’t know it was you, at first he thought two of things, you maybe a new worker here or one of his fandom, poom both wrong you were the new cell mate, but as long as you’re a girl he is more than willing to flirt.
When you got yourself together and talked to him about out he felt so disappointed because wow,im that down bad for every girl huh? i just flirted with my oldest bestie.
Does he regrets it? not really because there is nothing wrong with telling a woman how great she looks! as long as he’s not pushing it .
He might jokingly act jealous of your transformation, making comments like, “Wow, you look even better than me now. I might need to step up my game!”
Honey loves teasing, so once he realizes who they are, he would playfully tease them about their transformation. “What happened to the girl who used to climb trees and play in the mud? Now you’re in heels?”.
Tumblr media
ꪆৎ
. ݁₊ ⊹ 🥋. ݁˖ . ݁݁🪭(liang)
When you first came in he he didn’t know it’s you ofc , he assumed you were new due to all the yapping about a new inmate coming.
Being the sweet gentle guy he is ,he tried to make it comfortable to you as much as possible, after all tere isn’t alot of women’s here, especially a one that looks Squeezable like you.
By the time you guys got along very well, he started to notice stuff you used to do when you’re little and the things you guys share memories about is almost similar, and also there is stuff or marks on both of your bodies that you guys recognise, he tried pushing the thoughts out because he didn’t want to make you uncomfortable and most of all confused !.
When you told him about some story he was sure then that it’s you! but how come!? you look like a little angel and back then you we’re pretty as well but didn’t know how to make yourself look fit.
Instead of immediately commenting, he would quietly observe you , noticing the little differences ,how you’ve changed your appearance, your mannerisms, and even how you carry yourself. He’s always been perceptive, so he’d pick up on how much you've matured.
He would likely ask about how and why you decided to embrace a more feminine style. He’s genuinely curious, not judgmental, and would want to understand what led to the change. “What made you decide to switch things up?”
As well, up for a friendship or relationship.
More protective!.

Faking it all.
Summary: high school au where colby is the popular guy and y/n is the shy good girl. Will they fall in love im not sure.
Pairings: colby brock x plus size!chloe sanchez (aka you reading this) , sam golbach x Amanda sid, jake webber x Tara yummy.
THIS IS A SERIES, MDI 18+.
Warnings: explicit language, smut, mutual pinning, bullying, fighting, mentions of abuse, colby being kind of a dick at first, Amber being a bully (I love Amber so much, she would never pick on some1 I know but it's just for the story)
Tumblr media
It started off as just another day, walking through the school halls when chloe reached her locker. Trying to balance her books in one arm while opening her locker with the other, she heard heels clicking on the floor which could mean one of two things, either chloes day was about to go south or her best friend was coming.
"Hey nerd" she heard Amanda behind her, rolling her eyes at the nickname chloe finally got her locker open. " hi Amanda, where's Tara?" Chloe asked her friend while shoving her books into her locker, "here she comes with jake, sam and colby" Amanda said. Chloe could see Amanda push up her boobs making the non-existent cleavage appear, making chloe giggle closing her locker turning around to lean on it looking at the group coming towards her and Amanda.
"Hey sam" Amanda said playing with her hair, "hey baby, wanna go get some breakfast?" Sam asked her putting an arm around Amanda's shoulder, she nodded and they walked toward the cafeteria, "hey girly, I missed you over the summer" Tara said pulling me into a hug, "you look so different but you look beautiful." She said pulling back to admire me.
Chloe was wearing minimal makeup, a slipknot band shirt, ripped jeans and combat boots and her glasses. "What do you guys think?" Tara asked the guys turning back to them, "oh yeah, I like your outfit" jake said smiling then pulling me into a hug, "yeah you look nice chlo-" colby started but got cut off "oh hi colby!" Amber said walking over.
She gave colby a hug and then pulled away to give me a dirty look "why are you hanging with this freak? Do you feel bad for her? Aw you've always been so sweet" she said praising colby but also insulting me, "go away Amber, I'm hanging out with chloe cause we are friends" colby said shrugging Amber off his arm coming to stand next to me putting his arm around me.
"But colby we are supposed to be together, your the most popular boy, apart from sam and I'm the most popular girl, apart from Amanda. We should be together like sam and Amanda." Amber said trying to persuade colby. "Everybody in this hall, do you like Amber more or chloe!" Jake shouted, a chant of chloe's name started along with people saying things like "she helps me with homework", "she's a good person, Amber isn't", "she always listens to me and gives me good advice".
Chloe started to smile and tear up hearing that she had a good effect on these peoples lives, "you heard them Amber, if I should be with anyone it's gonna be chloe, it makes sense. Jake and Tara, sam and Amanda, me and chloe. Just makes sense" colby said pulling her closer to him.
Truth be told, she had always had a thing for colby ever since they met when they were 3 and their dad's became work buddies, colby had never been a total dick to her. He would make jokes that made him sound like a dick but he was also a dick to those that hurt chloe.
Chloe wouldn't know it yet but colby had felt the same as chloe that's why he would always joke around with her but also protect her, chloe may not remember a thing colby promised her at the age of 6 but colby did and he was always gonna stick to it,
*Flashback*
Colby and chloe had been playing all day outside in the park, their mother's sitting at a bench with each other laughing at some story they were sharing, as chloe and colby were playing tag chloe bumped into another kid, his name is zach. He was the main bully in the school, taking kids toys and keeping them, hitting teachers and throwing things when he wouldn't get what he wanted.
As zach turned around he looked at chloe as if he was about to hit her, as he went to hit her colby pushed him out of the way and kicked him grabbing chloes hand and rushing over to their mom's.
In the back of his mom's car he turned to chloe "are you OK?" He asked chloe moving over towards her, she nodded and quietly replied "yes, thank you for what you did back there".
Colby chuckled "I promise you I will always protect you and I will love you forever" he said grabbing her hand and kissing it fully locking in the promise.
*end of flashback*
Colby made sure to keep to his promise but now loving chloe in a different way he had when they were younger. All colby new was that this year was the year he made chloe his.
A/n I hope you liked this, this was part one of the series I'm not sure how many parts there will be, I might also put this on my wattpad.

Y/N'S POV
I stared in the mirror at my reflection as I put on my earrings and all my jewelry. I was getting ready for something my friend had planned, I think she was just running low on content for her youtube channel and needed something to post. My bestfriend Mia was a Youtube with over three hundred and forty subscribers, She has had me and our other friend Miguel in a couple of videos, and some we appeared in together. The second video we appeared in was when the comments started, Some of the comments said stuff like,
"Look at the way they look at each other!"
"He is so in love with her"
"They are defiantly dating!? OMG!!"
And not to mention the mass amounts of fan edits we both have been tagged in where the fans ship us together. I didn't know Miguel personally, He is just usually there when Mia is filming and so am I, I thought he was very attractive and he defiantly made me nervous when we got too close, The way he would look at me was like I was the only girl in the world.
I have told Mia about my small (HUGE) crush on Miguel and she freaked out and told me I needed to ask him out or tell him about my feelings, but I just never did because I was always scared he would reject me or think differently of me even though it didn't matter because it's not like we hang out alone.
I also am kinda talking to somebody at the moment, It isn't anything serious and we aren't in a relationship or anything, I just thought he was attractive and wanted to get to know him, but from what my other friend Ash told me he is a player, I don't really care I just wanted a distraction for my feelings for Miguel.
I saw my phone light up with a notification from Mia, I grabbed my phone and clicked on her message.
Mia Bear 🐻💕
Are you ready?
I'm parked outside hurry!
I'm ready just need to apply lipgloss omw!
I'm so excited!
I think you're gonna like who I picked for you 🤭
I hope so, is it that Bryan guy? cause if so I ain't going
What?
No! This guy is short sorry lol
But he is cute AND funny I KNOW you will like him
Now hurry your apartment complex is scary
I sighed as I shut my phone off and put it in my back pocket, I put on some lipgloss and looked at myself once more in my full-body mirror to make sure I still looked good, I then walked out of my bedroom and shut my lights out and said bye to my animals and grabbed my purse walking out of my door and making sure to lock it behind me.
I walked into my elevator and clicked "Main floor" I waited for the elevator to open and walked out to see Mia parked outside talking to her Camera in the car, She looked over and saw me walking up to her and pointed the Camera at me,
"Oh my damn, You look good if he doesn't take you I will," She said zooming in on my outfit
I giggled doing a little spin for the camera, "So are you ready?" She asked as I got in her car
"I don't know, You said he was short," I said side-eyeing her
"You got a problem with short men?" She shouted laughing after
"No it's just a lot of short guys think they are hot shit and they ALWAYS have a big ego," I said
"I promise you are going to like this guy, He's humble," She said
It's not that I didn't trust Mia- I did one hundred percent, It's just me and her have completely different tastes when it comes to people we date, I hope she ACTUALLY picked someone I would go for and not someone she would go for, does that make sense?
We pulled up to a park and she told me she would be right back and that she had to go seat something up. I was so nervous so I decided to take my mind off of it by Taking some cute pictures and liking some fan edits.
Mia opened the car door after fifteen minutes, She climbed in and pulled out her camera,
"You ready?" She asked
"Yeah kinda," I laughed
"Don't be, You look great," She smiled and turned her camera on setting it on her dashboard
"So me and Y/n just arrived!" She said to the camera
"Hey guysss!" I smiled
"So all you know is what?" She asked turning to look at me
"So all I know is it's a blind date, we are going to the park and that's all I know," I said
"Yeah I didn't tell you much cause I didn't want to spoil it," She said
"I need to know if I am wearing a blindfold and do I get to see who it is like right when I get there?" I asked
"Yeah I'm gonna keep the blindfold on you guy's until you like- sit down," She said
"I kinda wanna keep the blindfold on," I said covering my face
"What your scared he's uggo, He isn't uggo I promise I would never do you dirty EVER!" She said laughing
"Good I didn't think you would," I said laughing with her
"Alright give me all your thoughts," She said as fixed her camera some
"Okay so when you said blind date I was like aw cute and fun, but I am also in like a sticky situation, I do have a little bit of a situationship going on but it's not like I'm somebodies girlfriend," I said
"But it's fine you can still go on this date," She said
She opened her glove box and pulled out a pink bandana and unfolded it,
"So I got this bandana, but I don't want to ruin your lashes so it's gonna have to be a bit loose so don't move around a lot," She laughed as she put the bandana on my face and tied it in the back
"Alright I think that's good, Can you breathe?" She asked
"Yeah I think- Enough I can breathe enough," I said laughing
"Oh shit I'll be right back, don't take your blindfold off okay," She said as she opened the car door and got out
I sat in silence for another fifteen minutes not knowing what to do cause I couldn't go on my phone due to the blindfold on my face, I laughed at the thought of people looking at me through the window wondering what is going on.
I heard the car door open and Mia breathing heavy
"Are you recording?" I asked
"Yeah, I am now why?" She asked
"Oh my god I'm over here with a blindfold on and I can't see anything and all I can hear is Mia over here breathing like a dog," I said laughing
She laughed shutting the car door
"I just know I'm gonna be so annoying on this date and I'm like so sorry," She said
"Wait no It's okay I'm glad you're here because if you would just leave us to fend for ourselves I would like kinda panic," I said
"Maybe I should then," She said
"NOOO!" I whined
"No i'm kidding I won't I'm gonna be annoying," She said laughing
"Isn't this like the perfect first date, like it's kinda romantic huh?" She asked
"Mmm, I don't know about that," I said laughing
"I'll be right back," She said as she got out of the car
MIA'S POV
"Ahh I'm so excited!" I shouted to the camera as I ran toward my bestfriend Miguel's car
He just got here and he looked a little nervous as he got out of the car, And it looked like he also brought his other bestfriend Mason, I blushed a bit as I and Mason made eye contact, I kinda liked Mason and Miguel knew that, He tried to get me and him together plenty of times but I have just never confessed my feelings.
"Are you excited about your blind date!?" I asked Miguel
"Oh, Mason's here to help me!" I said as I pointed the camera at Mason
"You're taking away my boyfriend bro what is this," He said
"Shut up!" I laughed as I handed him the Camera so I could put on Miguel's blindfold
"Are you excited?" I asked Miguel as I put on his blindfold
"Yeah- well I'm gonna be honest I was hyping myself up on my way here but now I'm here and I'm kinda shitting bricks," He said laughing
"Well I wouldn't put you with someone you wouldn't think was cute," I said
"Well that makes me even more nervous," He said
"Don't stutter alright you got this," Mason said reassuring Miguel
"Bro you literally have thousands of girls crushing on you over the internet you got this," I said
We got out of the car and Mason ran over to our side to film,
"Wait I got her flowers!" Miguel said
"You got her flowers?" I asked surprised
"Yeah I didn't know if I should or not but it is a date so," He said laughing
Mason ran to the trunk and pulled out a huge bouquet of roses,
"Miguel what is this oh my god!" I said walking over to Mason to look at the flowers
I had completely forgotten Miguel was blindfolded, "HOLY SHIT!!" Mason yelled I looked back to see a car speeding in Miguel's direction, I quickly ran over and dragged him towards me, and Mason
"You just almost died!" Mason yelled laughing
"Huh?" Miguel asked confused
"Mia almost let you get ran over bro!" Mason shouted
"Back to what I was saying!" I said laughing
"Miguel, why did you get her this many flowers?" I asked since it was so cute
"Oh it's a Ramo Buchon, I got it because I kinda have a feeling of who you are setting me up with," he said
"No, you don't, She is like super tall- like model tall- like taller than you!" I said
I looked at Mason trying to hold in my laugh and he was doing the same
"Damn model tall, How tall is she?" He asked
"Like six foot five," I said trying not to laugh
"Oh hell nah you trynna set me up with an NBA player, I'm good bro," He said trying to walk away but bumped into the side of his car
"No come back you can't see, dumbass," I said
I grabbed his hand and started leading him to the spot that I had set up for him and Y/n, Mason was carrying the flowers and the camera. The spot had a pink blanket spread across the grass with some sandwiches and I also got them some water so they could stay hydrated since it was hot as shit outside.
"Is she really six foot five?" He asked
"Yes, she is!" I said laughing
"Oh god," He mumbled
"Are you still nervous?" I asked
"Hell yeah, I am so nervous Mia," He said
"Okay talk to the camera," I said
"I just- what if she doesn't like me or what if I don't like her?" He said
I was trying to listen but he kept squeezing my hand, was he really THAT nervous?
"OWW, YOU'RE SQUEEZING MY HAND!!" I shouted trying to lose his grip
"Sorry, I'm just nervous!" He shouted back
"Alright we are here," I said
"Just sit down," Mason said
"Uh, I can't see?" Miguel said
"Oh shit right, here!" I said guiding him to sit on the blanket
"I got you some sandwiches and some waters," I said
"Okay, can I take the blindfold off?" He asked
"NO I'm about to go get her, Just sit there and don't talk because she's gonna recognize your voice I feel like," I said
"Okay, hurry up," He said laughing
Mason handed the flowers to Miguel and we both rushed over to my car to get Y/n,
"Alright I am gonna walk you to your knight in shining armor," I said as I opened my car door
"Ahh I'm so nervous!" Y/n said
"No it's fine, Tell me your thoughts," I said as I guided her to the spot Miguel was at
"Honestly I'm a liar, I'm not really that nervous I'm just dramatic, but I also might fall in love," She said
"Aww you might!" I said
"Also he might hear your voice, he might not recognize it but he might I don't know," I said
"HIII!!" She shouted
"Bitch you aren't there yet!" I shouted laughing
"Ohhh," She laughed
Y/N'S POV
"Alright I need you to sit down here," Mia said as she helped me sit on the ground
"Can he hear me?" I asked
"Kinda," I heard someone say
"Hiii," I said
Mia and someone else started laughing,
"Is he here- what?" I asked confused since I couldn't see anything
"No, he is here!" Mia said
"Alright, you guys can take your blindfolds off!" She shouted
I took a deep breath as I slowly pulled my blindfold off,
"Holy shit," I heard someone whisper beside me
I looked over to see Miguel, I fucking knew it!
"Oh my god I knew it!" I shouted and we all laughed
"Hiii," I smiled leaning in for a hug
"Hi, how are you?" He smiled as he hugged me back
"I'm great," I said pulling away
"This was gonna be my guess when you asked me to guess who it was," I said laughing
"I know, I tried to throw you guys off a little bit," She said
"Well, he isn't four foot three that's for sure!" I said laughing
"Four foot three, She told me you were six foot five!!" Miguel shouted laughing
"SIX FOOT FIVE OH HELL NAHH!!" I shouted
"She did us dirty," Miguel laughed
"Yeah I tried throwing you off by saying he was short- and he's like the tallest person in the world," she said scanning Miguel with the camera
"I know I was so nervous 'cause she was like, do you like short kings?" I said
"Not the short king," Miguel laughed shaking his head
"So I got you guys some sandwiches and waters, and um- OH," Mia said pointing at something behind Miguel
He pulled out a huge Ramo Buchon, It had red roses on the outside and white roses in the middle shaped like a heart and it was wrapped in white glitter paper.
"Oh yeah I got you some flowers," He smiled as he handed me them
"Oh my god thank you, these are so beautiful!" I smiled taking them
"I'm like tearing up, this is the sweetest thing a guy has done for me thank you so much!" I said hugging him
He hugged me back and I just wanted to stay like that forever, he felt so warm and he smelled so good and the way his hands wrapped around me so perfectly made me melt.
"Okay since you guys are both nervous it is a good thing I came up with some good first-date questions," Mia said as she walked behind me and Miguel
"I am so nervous deadass, my whole hand is shaking," Miguel said as he held up his hand
"Okay, my first question is did I do great?" She asked smiling at the camera
"I think you did good," I said looking at Miguel
"I think you did great," He smiled looking at me
"Good because I told them in my intro about how you guys think each other is cute and no one does anything about it," She said pulling out her phone
I and Miguel couldn't stop glancing at each other, he just looked so good, and his outfit looked good, He was wearing some black cargo pants, a black shirt, a red jacket, a black hat, and air force ones, and his hair was also pulled back in a ponytail, The site made me wanna drool.
"Okay the real first question is, What is your favorite movie, I'm trynna see if you guys have anything in common here," She said
"I would defiantly have to say y/f/m," I said (Your favorite movie)
"I would have to go with Friday and hangover," Miguel said
"What is that?" I asked
"You haven't seen hangover?" Mia asked
"Wait you haven't seen hangover?" Miguel asked shocked
"No guess we have to watch it," I said smirking at him
"Oh we are for sure having a movie night," he said smirking at me
"Wait you guys are already planning another date!?" Mia asked
"It feels like you guys are fine without me, I'll stay for one more question," She said
"Okay, so what are your signs?" She asked
"Uh, I am a y/z/s what are you?" I asked (What is your zodiac sign)
"I'm a Pisces," Miguel said as he opened his water bottle
"Aw I love Pisces," I said
"Perfect!" Mia said clapping her hands
"Alright I'm gonna leave you guys to fend for yourselves for a bit and I'm gonna go talk to Mason and the viewers," She said as she got up and walked off with Mason
I looked back at Miguel who was already looking at me, I quickly looked down trying to hide my blush, He laughed as he placed his hand over mine holding it, I looked up at him and he smiled back at me, "You look so beautiful Y/n," He said looking me up and down,
I couldn't help but look him up and down as well, He just looked so good, "Thank you, Miguel, You look really nice too," I said laughing
"I was serious about that Movie date," He said
"Really?" I asked
"One hundred percent," He said as he looked me in the eyes
"You have no idea how long I have wanted to go on a date with you," He said
"I think I know, I've kinda been crushing on you for a while," I said smiling
"You should have said something!" He said laughing
"Oh yeah like you should have said something to me about how you felt the same!?" I said laughing
"I was nervous!" He said
"Why I don't bite?" I said smirking
"You are just so… Beautiful and breathtaking, and you are very intimidating like you carry yourself so well that I felt like if I asked you out you would have laughed in my face," He said lowering his head
Did he really feel that way? am I intimidating? He said I was breathtaking!
"Miguel, I wouldn't have laughed in your face, I would have told you how I felt and we could have been dating and we wouldn't have to be on this weird blind date thing," I said laughing
He finally looked up at me as he laughed
"Alright be honest what is your ideal first date, Cause I wanna properly take you out?" He asked
"Okay so I think- not a movie because you are like sitting in silence and you can't really talk to each other- but what would earn you coochie point is like maybe take me out somewhere to eat and be like, Be ready at this time and dress like this I'm picking you up," I said
He threw his head back as he laughed
"Alright it seems like it's going very well, So I'm gonna make things a little weird," Mia said as she sat back down between me and Miguel
"Oh great," I said side eyeing Miguel who was doing the same
"Okay I want you guys to compliment each other," She said
"Okay, I really like your hair and your eyes and your smile," I said
"I love your smile and your eyes and your lips," He said smirking at me
"That's so romantic Miguel oh my god," Mia said sighing
"Okay so I have this friend who I showed a picture of you both to and she said that you both looked cute together and I was like I know I've been trying to tell them, like Miguel is always like yo whats good with your friend Y/n, and then I'm like Y/n Miguel thinks you're cute and then she's like yeah he's cute, and no one will ever make a move," She said mimicking our voices
"All right guys comment down below if you think this went well, get this to ten thousand likes and I will force them to go on a date alone next time, Byeee!" She said as Mason turned off the Camera
"Soooo, yall going on a date?" She asked wiggling her brows
"I would love to take you out on a date Amor," Miguel said
I looked away blushing,
"Ohhh he's calling you Amor now?" Mia said
"I would like that," I said blushing

BRINGING DOWN OTHERS IS LOW VALUE
Today I had the joy of getting a message from a nice young lady who wanted to thank me for my advice and sweetly asked me if I wanted to be friends with her ❤️
This made me understand that having a platform may be a way to share our individual opinions but we should have in mind that, especially on Tumblr, many people come across our content and we have responsibility to correctly and ethically influence them by adding value to their lives.
So, I want to thank every single one of you for following me and sending sweet messages. All 1,205 of you. We are a small corner on the internet and I don't care about appearing "mysterious" and "unapproachable" to my digital friends.
If you have a question/a content suggestion or just want to say "Hi!" don't be shy and use my AMA or private messages. I'll try to answer to all of you.
Also, thank you for being patient with me as I'm finishing up with this exam season and have not posted anything in the past few days. A few of you reached out for tarot readings and a birth chart analysis and we got even closer, so thank you for trusting me with your time, money, hopes and wishes!
I asked the young lady if she wanted me to write a post about something specific or if she had any content suggestions. She told me that she wanted my opinion on "pick-me" girls who bring other women down. She added that it would be interesting to "know how do this girls think". Your wish is my command young lady!
Shall we start ?
After you queens... 👑
Have you noticed something? People who are high value and successful are always eager to extend their hand to other people full of passion and ambition. They become mentors and leaders for other women and men. They set the standard by example. Usually these people are kind hearted, yet know how and when to set boundaries.
All in all, they don't bring other people down, they build them up.
This women and men build ladders for others to climb at the top with them but they know, they have to protect themselves and their loved ones from vultures, because someone can bring you down even if you are thousand meters above them. They just have to pull the rug underneath your feet.
Someone who is high, won't try to lower someone else's value. Someone who is low is not accustomed to the loneliness of the top. They want to surround themselves with other low value individuals to feel powerful. That's the pack mentality and that's why mean girls/boys hang in crowds.
We all had that "friend". She was insecure but always downplayed. She was always jealous of other people and you could see it but you never thought she was jealous of you. Why would she be? When you talked about your crush/business idea/ambitions it was always : "Ew he is ugly.", "Who are you Elon Musk?", "A law degree? You don't even know how to think critically.".
That friend and you fell apart when you started investing in yourself, and that's when the veil fell off and you saw other girls like that.
The pick-me girls.
A couple days ago, I had a "History Of Economic Thought" exam (It's a very interesting topic to research and if a similar class is available to you, I suggest that you take it!). It was the last one I had to take in person.
I felt awful, anxious and tired. Two weeks of hard work, studying everyday, staying up till light came through the blinds and commuting two hours back and forth to and from school had made me emotionally and mentally tired. I needed some loving from my cat Mr. Mau and a toffee nut latte.
I did my 10k steps by the sea and decided to open up Pinterest and make myself feel a bit better. I searched up "fall aesthetic", "studying aesthetic", "toffee nut latte from Starbucks" etc.
Under a pin there was this comment by a girl calling all women who are "obsessed" with fall, Starbucks and cute photos of pumpkins, "silly a** basic white b*tches".
I then went on TikTok and came across a video of a woman who was being shamed for having a 35k engagement ring (you know which one I'm talking about, the one her man, an amazing king ate the interviewer up and left no crumbs). A woman had commented "she is a gold digger and when he cheats on her with a good woman she'll get what she deserves".
Excuse me what ? So a good woman is one who tries to please others by accepting less than she deserves. I'm not one who would want a 35k engagement ring, buy me a 3k one and 32k of gold for investment purposes, but if her men believed she deserved that, then so be it.
Why are you trying to get picked? Do you think men marry the good girl? Do you think any man who will only see you as an innocent, precious lovely angel will be able to take all of you?
These women are playing a dangerous game. They so badly want to get picked and mostly they get picked but for all the wrong reasons. They love how guys on podcasts praise them online for being "feminine". They love the attention of boys who find them cool.
Sweetheart, you need a man who will find your rage and your sweetness sacred.
You need parents who will understand that you have your own dreams, needs and that you are not just an extension of their egos.
These women and the so-called "good guys" (uhh don't let me get started on those") are sad inside. They would love to have your own wildness and freedom. They feel jealous that you are still that magical bitch holding your pumpkin spice latte with a fresh new set and while doing kick boxing on Wednesday afternoon.
Girls, watch some Legally Blonde. It's the literal blueprint 😉 It made me come to terms with my girly nature as a girl who grew up a tomboy.
You don't have to be just bubbly and feminine. You don't have to be just a dark feminine, femme fatale. You can be all of those things because we are multilayered beings. Lastly, we have the gift of metamorphosis. Don't be afraid to transform and break the mold.

You'll be mine (John Price x reader x Tangerine)
Note: fem!reader, special appearance by John Price from CoD. I'll let you decide how it ends. Will Tan win her over? Fuck it, let's vote at the end.
--
“You asked your girlfriend to join us?” Tangerine asked the moment John finished his sentence, the grimace on his face making the man believe he was completely against the idea.
So the soldier tilted his head to the side a little, his blue eyes examining the younger man’s expression as if he was trying to figure out why he wouldn’t want his girl to spend the evening with them. He was smitten with you, he would never deny it, but he couldn’t think of a reason why anyone would think you weren’t pleasant to be around. To him, you were the brightest star in the sky, the sunshine in his dark and cold life.
After a minute or so of silence, John finally licked his lower lip and said, “We don’t have to spend the whole evening together, mate. She’ll be here soon and we’ll be out of your hair right away.”
Even though he said that in a casual way, the captain wasn’t as cool about it as he might have sounded to the other two men. They were probably his only normal friends, he wanted them to get along with his girlfriend, and he wanted you to be friends with them too. Just like he always wanted you to get along with his family members. If anything happened to him, he would want you to have people to rely on.
Little did he know that the problem wasn’t that Tangerine didn’t like you. No, quite the opposite and Lemon was fully aware of that. They were brothers, he knew it from the way he was looking at you, the way he talked about you, the little comments he dropped about how much better he would treat you. It was oh so obvious to him, but whenever he asked, he was just told it wasn’t like that. “She’s a nice gal, that’s all,” was all he said usually.
And even now, Lemon saw the way Tangerine shifted in his seat the moment you entered the pub, he saw the way his brother’s eyes followed your every move like a hawk, and he even noticed a jealous glint crossing those same blue eyes when John sneaked a hand around your waist and pulled you into a kiss as a greeting.
“My glass is empty, I’ll grab a drink. You want anything?” he asked John, seemingly ignoring you.
But he was only ignoring you because it was easier to deal with the pain of you not being his precious little doll. You seemed to be head over heels for John, a man whose taste in football teams was a lot, lot worse than his taste in women. The honorary military man, the good boy, the one who was complicated and perfectly capable of protecting you just like him.
John declined the offer before he returned his attention to you, but Lemon knew he should go with him to the bar. The two of them walked over there and occupied two empty chairs, and it was Tangerine who broke the silence, finally saying out loud what his brother had been aware of all along.
“I want her. That girl is killing me,” he admitted with a sour face before he turned to the bartender to order another glass of whiskey. “I need to make her see that she should ditch John and be with me. I like the guy, don’t get me wrong, but she deserves better. I would treat her so much better…”
At this point, Lemon stopped listening to his brother and only shook his head as he also ordered something to drink. He needed more alcohol to handle Tangerine’s bad mood, even if he was keen to help him get over this stupid idea of his. You were taken, simple as that, and he was ready to use another Thomas & Friends reference to help him come to his senses despite knowing well enough it would only enrage him.
And then his ears picked up a sentence he really, really wished he didn’t hear. “I’ll kidnap her. I’ll lock her in an apartment and spoil her rotten there,” Tangerine stated confidently before finishing his drink.
“For fuck’s sake,” Lemon muttered under his breath. “All right, listen to me. You definitely cannot kidnap her. John and his friends from the SAS would quickly find you and I have no idea how far they would go to make you pay for kidnapping his girl. And if they dig a little deeper, they’ll find out what we do for a living. I like John, he’s like my only normal friend at the moment. I don’t want him to turn on me.”
Tangerine rolled his eyes at him. “Bollocks, you have a lot of friends.”
“Name one.”
“Thomas,” he replied with a shit-eating grin.
Lemon took a deep breath to calm himself, but then he said, “Fuck you.”
Without saying another word, Tangerine stood up and made his way back to you and John, not bothering to check if his brother was following him. He immediately noticed you even in the crowd, as if there was a ray of light shining upon you, illuminating your lovely figure to stand out. But when he checked your surroundings, he didn’t see John anywhere. Did he leave you here all alone? What a bastard. Leaving such a pretty little thing on her own in such a place.
Well, that was good as he already had the whole kidnapping planned out. He would spike your drink when John wasn’t around using a drug an acquaintance of his would deliver to him, then he would take you to his secret rented apartment downtown. Once you wake up, he would give you a story about how you acted weird, and since John wasn’t around, he took it on himself to keep you safe. All because he was such a good friend.
“Where’s John?” he asked when he sat down across from you.
You gave him a small smile, but when he looked into your eyes, he noticed they mirrored the sadness that was probably eating you from the inside. “He had to go. Work stuff,” you added quietly.
He always had to leave for work, sometimes for weeks or months, leaving you behind all alone. Well, he wasn’t about to let a poor thing like you suffer, so he reached out to squeeze your hand. “And he left you here all alone? Why didn’t you come over to us, love?” he asked in a sickeningly sweet voice.
Before you could answer, Lemon joined you at the table, sitting next to his brother then pushing a glass of mojito in front of you. When you gave him a questioning look, he flashed a smile at you. “Didn’t want you to dry out and miss the fun. Come on, it will help. And don’t look this sad, we’re here to entertain you,” he told you, looking over at Tangerine when he said the word we.
The bright smile that appeared on your rosy lips made Tangerine happy, but this happiness disappeared the moment you shook his hand off of yours and reached for the glass. He could have strangled his brother at this moment. Why couldn’t he keep his distance and let him do what he wanted? Yes, he was against the kidnapping plan, but why not let him try another way to convince you? He could be a charmer if he wanted to.
“I don’t like it when you look sad,” Tangerine noted with a small smile, having a hard time fighting the urge to reach out for your hand again. “Come on, tell me what you want to do tonight. Do you want to go out for dinner? Watch a movie? Or do you want to go clubbing?”
This made you let out a chuckle, but you raised the glass to your lips before saying anything in response. The poor man was way too impatient to sit in silence, but when he opened his mouth to tell you that he would be up for anything your heart desired, Lemon kicked him in the shin to stop him. He even glared at him as if he was ready to glue his lips together just to shut him up. So Tangerine gave up and kept smiling at you, doing his best to be patient.
“I don’t really feel like going out. I only came here because John invited me. We were planning to go back to his place and watch a movie,” you finally explained to them.
“That’s a great idea! Too bad Lemon has other plans and can’t stay for long,” Tangerine told you with a sigh, then looked over at his brother to silently tell him to play along.
Apparently he got the message, because he turned to you and nodded with a sad look on his face. “Yeah, I have plans, but it’s nothing I can’t cancel,” he said.
“Which is something you shouldn’t do. Would Thomas do that? Would he cancel plans?”
You had already heard of Lemon and his Thomas & Friends obsession, so you couldn’t help but laugh when Tangerine brought it up. It was kind of cute, really, how the two of them were bickering so much. Lemon didn’t lie, they were truly ready to entertain you. “Okay, seriously, just go, I’ll be fine on my own. I’ll pour a glass of wine, sit on the couch, and watch some terrible reality show until I pass out,” you told them kindly.
But Tangerine wasn’t about to give up. He leaned forward and hooked his index finger under your necklace to gently pull you closer over the table. “Not on my watch, sweetheart. Lemon can go wherever he wants, but we will have some fun together, okay?”
He would lay the groundwork with a night spent alone, showing you how much more fun life with him would be. Kidnapping you was now well behind him, he had changed his mind along the way and decided to change your mind in a more subtle way. If everything went according to his plan, you would have the best night of your life, and the two of you would plan more nights out like this while John was gone. By the time he returned, you would be ready to admit that your relationship with him was going nowhere, that with his hectic schedule and the dangers which came with his job your future was doomed.
And then he would step forward, providing a shoulder for you to cry on, being your emotional support until you were ready to open up for new possibilities. He would be there like a loyal dog, always a phone call away, always caring, always listening. Slowly but surely you would see him as an option for a new boyfriend, and oh, he was so eager to impress you in every possible way.

Chapter 1: S is for Sannoh Hoodlum Squad
The apartment above the store was smaller than her old home, but it looked cozy. Even with the old furniture, chipped wallpaper and musty carpet underneath her feet, she felt a sense of warmth throughout the room. Looking around, they’d certainly have to fix it up to be comfortable. With a separate bedroom on the side, the bathroom remained the only other room. She figured her and her mother would be sharing a room until they could afford a bigger place. She didn’t mind. It was better than having no bed at all. She opened a window to let out the stuffy air, and saw the spectacular view…
A small courtyard and the opposite building behind them.
When her mother and aunt came back up, Sakyia noticed they’d brought two young men with them. One was tall with long black dreadlocks, and his companion was darker and shorter. She guessed these were Junpei’s friends. The boy with the dreadlocks smiled when he saw her, then nudged his friend, who also grinned.
“Sakyia,” Hana said, “I’d like you to meet Tettsu,” the tall one waved, “And Dan,” the short one bowed slightly. “They come and help me from time to time.”
“Because Junpei tells them too.”
“Cobra doesn’t force us to do anything,” Tettsu immediately said, placing down one of their boxes. “We’re always here for our neighborhood. It’s what Sannoh Hoodlum Squad is about: protecting and caring for the town.”
She tried to stifle a laugh, “Sannoh Hoodlum Squad? That’s your gang’s name?” It wasn’t the worst name she’d ever heard.
“Yeah,” he replied. “Cobra is our leader.”
“His nickname is ‘Cobra’?” she snickered, picking up the box of kitchen items. “It would be.”
“Sakyia!” Midori furrowed her brow, “Stop being rude.”
“I’m not being rude,” she put it on the counter, giggling softly, “Just voicing an opinion. You told me Sannoh is a good place to live.”
“It is,” Dan told her reassuringly. “You’ll see once you’re settled in. Sannoh Hoodlum Squad isn’t like the ones you’re probably used to seeing. We take care of our people.”
“You can come to the diner and see for yourself,” Tettsu suggested. “It’s called the Itokan Diner.”
“Ooh! That sounds nice!” Midori said. “Is it a new place? I haven’t been home in such a long time; everything’s changed around here.”
The pair began explaining it to her as Sakyia helped unload the car downstairs. They seemed nice, but most gangsters did. However, looking them both over, and listening to them talk, they did not seem the type to be in gangs. They were friendly and helpful to her aunt, who appreciated them enough to offer rice balls the next time they came. They didn’t brag or flaunt any fancy things they’d bought. Should she have passed them in the street, they’d appear like any normal youths. Sakyia knew more than most that appearances can be deceiving. She decided she’d leave her judgment for more contemplative hours; she had work to do.
Sakyia spent the rest of the day putting things away and trying to make something of a home in the apartment. She made shelf space for her art supplies and books; her mother brought small potted plants to place along the window sill for some life. Family photos went on shelves and walls; they’d put her father’s remains in an ornate wooden box on the bedroom dresser. By the time they’d finished, night fell and the apartment seemed less empty and shabby.
“We need food,” her mother frowned when she saw the empty fridge. “I’ll order take out for tonight. Burgers, Blossom?”
“I guess,” she shrugged.
“Don’t get burgers,” Hana said, unpacking the last kitchen box. “There’s a perfectly good diner down from here that serves way better food.”
“That diner your friends mentioned?” asked Sakyia.
“You’ll love their food,” she insisted. “Naomi is such a great cook, and the prices are reasonable.” Midori looked at Sakyia with raised eyebrows, and Sakyia shrugged again. They turned to Hana who nodded, “I’ll place the order. Sakyia can go pick it up. You can walk there, it’s not too far.”
“Ugh, Auntie,” she groaned, plopping onto the couch. She let her body sink into it as she said, “I’m so tired. Can’t they deliver?”
“They don’t do that,” Hana replied. “Stop being lazy. You’re young. Besides, Junpei might be there.”
“Um okay, so?”
She caught her mother and her aunt looking at one another. She groaned and let her head fall back on the couch. It was inevitable that this would come up: Cobra was a young man. Sakyia was a young woman, new in town. “He’s a man of few words, but he’s very nice-” Hana began, but Sakyia cut her off.
“-I literally just arrived,” she said. “I’m not looking for a boyfriend. I’m looking to sit down and never get back up again.”
“We weren’t thinking that at all,” her mother said unconvincingly. She grabbed a bottle of wine that Hana brought, and said, “Your aunt was telling us what a nice young man Junpei is, that’s all.”
“Mh-hm, your mom keeps complaining to me about how you’re always at home, you don’t go to school, you don’t have a lot of friends-”
“-Well, I wasn’t really in a place to make any friends.”
No, she hadn’t been. Yes, there’d been fighters she became friendly with in the warehouse, but nobody she saw outside of the place. Twelve years fighting on dirt and sawdust, her hands and wrists wrapped up, forged her into something. A weapon. Jiro took up most of her time, so she never went out with friends or her mother all that much. The one person she'd grown closest to sat in a Rasen prison cell. Sakyia recalled the times she’d tried fitting in with girls at her school: going shopping, wearing makeup and pretty clothes; talking about boys they liked and things they did over the weekend. She wanted that life. She wanted a circle of friends who stuck by her side, and lifted her up. Often, she imagined going shopping with a group of friends, and visiting her mother's salon togethet.
But, Jiro pulled her away from that to fight in the pits. Plus, the bruises kept people at a distance. Thinking of the endless fights night after night already tired her out. She withdrew the small sketchpad from her bag with a pencil, and returned to her drawing.
She was done with fighting. She did not mind a bit of practice to keep herself in shape, but fighting people? Sakyia refused to do it ever again. She’d wasted her life on pointless fighting. She’d only done it because of Jiro; otherwise she might’ve given up on it entirely and focused on her art. Martial arts used to be something her father and her shared. When he died, it felt meaningless to continue. Sakyia looked forward to helping her mother in the salon, doing simple tasks and meeting people. Maybe she can enroll in a beauty school and become a stylist herself. She could still go, if she wanted; she was only twenty-five. She still had so much ahead, and with Jiro and the warehouse gone, she could be something more than that.
“-Alright, she’ll come by to pick it up,” Hana said over the phone. “Thank you, Naomi. Have a good night.” She turned back to Midori and Sakyia by the television, “Alright you, time to go. Here’s the address,” she scribbled it down on a piece of paper and handed it to Sakyia, “She says it’ll be done in thirty minutes or so.”
“Then, I’ll go in thirty minutes.”
“No, young lady,” said Midori, picking up her glass of wine from the coffee table. “You’ll go now. That way it’ll be hot when you bring it back.”
“You two just want me out of the house so you can have the wine to yourselves,” Sakyia accused, putting her pad and pencil aside.
“That’s right,” she smiled, pouring her sister a glass. “I haven’t drank properly since I married Jiro,” she said to Hana. “He said he thought women drinking was an ugly trait. I can’t believe I actually listened to him.”
“I can’t believe you married him!” said Hana, sitting on the sofa between her and Sakyia.
This was her cue to leave. She slowly stood from the couch, slipped on her jacket and shoes, and headed out the door. Once outside, she entered the address into her phone and began walking. The sky started changing from day into night, and she saw businesses already closing. She did receive curious looks from locals who’d never seen her, but she nodded politely. Walking down the street, Sannoh did not seem like such a rough place. It did appear a bit run down in places, yet she liked that. It felt real. Sakyia saw herself living in this small town. She could inherit the salon or start her own art gallery and sell her drawings, if they were good enough. She smiled softly. This could be a good place for her and her mother.
She found the Itokan Diner wedged in a corner of the street with a small sign bearing its name in bold letters. Sakyia took a deep breath, and then pushed on the door. Her stomach growled at the scent of savory food in the air. She took a look around the small diner: it had bench tables, posters and words plastered on the walls, and chandeliers made from glass bottles. The rustic, comforting look must draw in a good amount of people during the night. She then noticed the room going quiet when she walked in.
“Hey, Sakyia!” Tettsu called to her from one of the tables, “You actually came!”
“Um, yeah,” she said, caught off guard by his grin, “My aunt ordered some food and I’m picking it up.”
Behind the counter, a short slim woman with brown hair stirred a pot over the stove. Sakyia guessed this was Naomi, the woman her aunt mentioned. She turned around when the door opened and smiled at Sayika.
"You must be Sakyia," she said. "Hana said you'd be coming by to pick up the food. It won't be ready for a while, so if you want to sit and have a drink, you're welcome to."
"Thanks," she took a seat at the bar. "They kicked me out so they can have all the wine to themselves. What do you have to drink around here?"
"Beer mostly," she replied.
Beer wasn't her favorite, but she asked for one. She gazed around the diner and noticed a drawing on the wall. It was a crown with two tigers on either side with the gang's name on a banner. She snorted. It was a decent design. She'd still seen worse. She took a swig from the beer Naomi placed in front of her and noted the photos on a shelf nearby. Two men stood together in front of a familiar logo on the wall. Two snakes tangled together in a circle underneath the words "Mugen" was a familiar sight to her.
"This used to be Mugen’s place?" the question came out before she stopped herself.
Naomi finished wiping a glass and said, "Ah, no. My brother, Tatsuya, was in it before he started the diner. The other man was his best friend, Kohaku. Why? Did you know them?"
"Not personally, but guys in the warehouse used to wear their vests and talk about them." She took another drink of beer when Naomi moved closer to her.
"Warehouse?"
She'd said too much. If this woman's brother was part of Mugen, she might not know about their part in the fighting rings. "I used to be a secretary in a warehouse in the bay area. With so many men around, they all try to impress you and say they know guys in Mugen or are a part of it."
"A lot of guys used to do that," said a male voice behind her.
She turned to see a dark haired man sitting not too far away, his own plate of food in front of him. His wide shoulders slimmed down his torso, though hidden behind the green sweater he wore. Judging by his face, he didn't like what Sakyia was saying.
"Doesn't mean Kohaku was involved," he said. "Guys in Mugen used its name to do bad things like deal drugs and women. But we weren't involved in that."
"Never said they did," she replied, a bit taken back by his reaction. "Just things I heard." She noticed another photo with Cobra and the other man with the first two. They also wore Mugen vests. It explained the man's reaction.
"She was only saying, Yamato. She didn't mean anything by it," Naomi defended her.
Men were so sensitive. She wondered what Yamato might say if she told him that Mugen members liked to fight and bet in the warehouse. Drinking her beer, she remembered a boy she'd fought who boasted about being part of Mugen. He made it sound as if she should've been scared of him. Sakyia would admit he dislocated her shoulder, broke her upper lip, bruised up her stomach and nearly choked her, but she'd beat him. He lost when a swift kick to the temple knocked him out. Sakyia smirked to herself. She recalled what she'd said to his manager.
"It appears that Mugen isn't as tough as they say."
"You were a part of Mugen, then?" she asked.
"Cobra and Yamato were," said Tettsu, coming over to her side, "But the rest of us joined them when they started the Sannoh Hoodlum Squad."
"Is there a signup sheet or something? How do you even join a gang?" The idea amused her. Naomi laughed as she turned back to the stove.
"Well, um, you sort of show up to the base and, kind of, join?"
"Why? Are you interested?" a deep voice asked from nearby.
She turned around to see Cobra sitting in a corner booth, a motorcycle magazine in front of him. In the dim lighting of the diner, his hair shone a dark gold color and softened his features. She understood her mother's suggestion at once. Even Sakyia wouldn't deny it: he was handsome. He didn't smile and spoke in a low voice.
"What if I was?" she asked, leaning back on the bar. "Do you accept women?"
The men in the bar laughed, but Cobra gazed at her. She tried not showing her uneasiness at his silent staring. His eyes remained absent the usual flirtatiousness; they observed her closely, as if they could see through her act. He studied her and she didn't like it. It reminded her too much of the men at the warehouse, who examined her like a horse for sale. The men who trained her said she had a slim body good for dodging and speed. She often fought men and women larger than her and her size came in handy. Cobra looked at her the way they did now.
"Depends," he said, "How good of a fighter are you?"
"Fighter?" Dan furrowed his brow.
Yamato turned to him in surprise, "What do you mean by that? She's a girl."
"That doesn't mean she couldn't fight any of you," said Naomi, who continued stirring her noodles. "She's got the body for it. She’s smaller and probably quicker than you, Baldy."
“Hag,” Yamato spat back, though his smile gave away the affection.
"Oh, I can't fight to save my life," Sakyia fibbed, finishing her beer. "I can't do all that fancy, tough guy martial arts stuff that guys do nowadays." It wasn't anyone's business what she could and couldn't do. Her father used to tell her not to show off or boast about her skills; that way she had the element of surprise. "I don't mind watching though. It’s kinda hot when guys fight each other," she added, winking at him. She expected a reaction, but didn't get one. He continued staring, and she stared right back. "What about you guys? What's your gang all about?"
"We protect the town," Cobra said. "There are other gangs around here who like hurting people and stealing. We stop them. We look after each other and make sure everyone is safe."
"How admirable. Most gangs I know deal drugs and fight all the time."
"Don't be fooled," said Naomi, putting rice into a small styrofoam container. "These guys use their fists to solve their problems all the time. You won't believe the amount of times they walk in here all bruised up and bleeding."
"But we win," Yamato quickly added, digging back into a hot plate of food.
"That’s not why we fight though,” said Cobra, going back to his magazine. “We fight hard because this town is worth fighting for. We all came together because of that shared love for our town. If you stick around long enough, you'll see it for yourself."
"Who could possibly want to mess with this little place?" she asked, the smell of the food making her hungry again. "There isn't anything here."
"People who want to step on the weak," he said. "The people who steal from those who already have nothing."
“I suppose my mom and I should be glad we moved into such a well protected area then,” she said, smirking at his righteous statement. She found it funny how serious he sounded. “So, do I call you if I ever need ‘protection’ or do you guys operate like Batman, and you happen to show up at the right time?”
The younger members chuckled at the joke, but stopped once Cobra stood up. All the nerves inside Sakyia lifted her shoulders slightly. She didn’t want to fight. Cobra came a few feet to her, then said, “I don’t think someone like you needs protection in the first place.”
“Meaning?”
“You claim you don’t know how to fight,” he said, “But then explain the scars on your knuckles.”
Sakyia looked at the hand on the bar, where a long scar stood out against her skin amongst smaller ones. “Accident,” she answered quickly. “It’s how I got this too, if you were planning on mentioning it,” she tapped the thin scar where Yoshi busted her nose. It healed well enough, but left a mark. “I was riding on a motorcycle with a friend, and it turned over. I broke my knuckle bone and my nose. Nothing suspicious about that.”
Cobra’s seriousness broke into a shadow of amusement. “I’ve been riding my motorcycle for years. I’ve never seen people get such specific injuries from an accident.”
“Are you some kind of motorcycle accident expert or something?” she spat back, “I got them from an accident, that’s it.”
"Your mom said she was opening up Sungmi's salon," Tettsu said, taking your attention from Cobra and his questions. "Will you be working there too?"
"Yeah," she nodded, peeling her eyes away from Cobra. "I'm not a stylist or anything, but she says I can clean and do reception."
Naomi came to her holding three styrofoam boxes. "Oh, she's opening back up the salon?"
"She'll be helping run it, yeah."
"Thank god!" She sighed in relief, "All the women around here have been going to the barber because the salon’s closed. It'd be nice to get a proper haircut."
"And a manicure or pedicure," Sakyia added. "My mom is hiring some nail artists to bring in more clients. She's going to have it properly running in a week or so. She actually does my hair," she showed off her short wavy bob, the ombre colors of brown and black fading out. "You should stop by when it's open."
"I definitely will," she said, "And I know plenty of other women who will stop by."
"I can come too," Tettsu chimed in eagerly.
"Salons are for women, Tettsu," Yamato rolled his eyes.
"There's nothing wrong with a man going to a salon," Sakyia said to him. "Same as a woman going to a barber shop.”
"Then I will come by," Tettsu smiled. "And you can come to my family's onsen."
"Your family's bathhouse is for men," Naomi told him.
"We could make a private space for her."
Sakyia chuckled, "The offer is nice, but no thank you."
"Well, if you change your mind…" he blushed, turning away. “You can just, you know, drop by or whatever.”
"What's with your nickname anyways?" She turned to Cobra again. She hated how he’d seen her scars and deduced their cause. She needed to prod him back. Her mother might scold her, but she didn’t care. "Is it supposed to compensate for something?"
Yamato nearly choked on his food. Dan and Tettsu stifled laughter and Naomi busied herself with putting the food in take out bags. Cobra didn't smile but he didn't glare either. His lack of reactions had begun to annoy her. Also, his stare made her squirm inside.
"In school," he said, smiling somewhat when he saw she wasn't being malicious, "There was this grapple I learned how to do. People said I did it so tight, it was like a cobra squeezing them. Someone said it and the name stuck," he shrugged.
"Maybe you can show me," she suggested, picking up the plastic bags Naomi handed her. "You know, since this town is so dangerous and I'm a defenseless woman wandering the streets at night."
Yamato gawked at her, "Wow, this girl's bold!"
“I doubt you’re defenseless,” Cobra smirked.
She tried not laughing at their reactions. She paid for the food and drink, thanked Naomi and said her farewell. Once outside, she giggled to herself. Men were so easily shocked by bold behavior. They seemed like a decent group. She decided she might stop by the diner more often.
That was how people made friends, right?
When she returned to the shop, she climbed the stairs and heard her mother laughing behind it. Sakyia stood outside the door for a moment to listen. She hadn’t heard her mother’s laugh for a long time. Full of mirth and giddiness, she’s sure the wine is helping it along but Auntie Hana’s presence adds to this. A surge of hope actually swirled in her chest. Maybe things will work out for them in this little town.
“Ma, I’m back,” she called into the apartment as she entered.
“Oh, good! We’re starving!” Hana sighed in relief, coming to the kitchen counter where Sakyia placed the bags. She began opening the bags, deeply inhaling the food, “Perfect. Naomi is a great cook. You’re both going to love her food.”
“Okay, okay, let’s get to eating.”
Her mother grabbed utensils, and passed them around. Sitting at the small dining table next to the kitchen, the women dug into their meals. Sakyia agreed with her aunt about the food: it was delicious. The tender chunks of meat stew melted in her mouth, full of seasonings and spices that complimented the bed of rice underneath. Only her mother’s own cooking surpassed it. Dipping a piece of broccoli in the sauce and eating it, her mother spoke.
“Sakyia,” she began, “Your aunt and I have been talking while you were gone.”
“Uh-oh.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Hana asked, affronted.
“Because whenever she starts a sentence with ‘your aunt and I have been talking’, it’s about to be something crazy.”
“Ah, hush you,” her mother nudged her with a smile. “I know we talked about you working with me in the salon, but Hana here told me she’s been looking for a delivery person for the store.”
“Okay…” she listened, eating another piece of saucy steamed vegetables.
“I think it’d be a better fit for you,” she stated, eating a bit of her own rice. “You’d be bored in the salon. You used to whine and wail about it when you were little, and you haven’t changed since then. Going around the districts, seeing the different places and meeting new people might be better for you. You’d be occupied and stimulated instead of sweeping floors and listening to gossip.”
“I wanted to sweep floors and listen to gossip,” she said. After the years she spent in the rings, she’d somewhat looked forward to ‘boring mundane work’.
“No, you didn’t,” her mother said. “You only want that because of, you know, your last…job.” She watched her daughter for a moment, seeing the way she avoided her gaze. “It’d be good for you,” she added. “You might make some friends that way and have a normal life.”
It sounded convincing, she wouldn’t lie. Sakyia knew deep down she’d get tired of working in the salon. It’d been the same during her childhood. She looked at Hana, “What would I be doing? Just delivering stuff to people?”
“Yes,” she nodded, drinking some of her wine. “People drop off their packages or send them in through other people; I charge and stamp them, and you’d take them where they need to go. Before you ask, a lot of these people don’t have the means or the time to give the packages and letters themselves. The family service is there to help them out. Besides, it’s good money,” she eyed them both before eating from her bowl. “It’ll help you greatly to have two incomes instead of one.”
“She’s got a point,” her mother agreed, washing down her food with water. “It’ll be good for us to have extra money coming in; then we’ll be able to get our own place quicker.”
Sakyia mulled this over while she ate. Her mother and her left their old home in a hurry, leaving them with little chances to find a proper and affordable place. If they save enough money, they can move into an apartment and leave the dingy flat above the postal shop.
“How would I get around?” Sakyia asked, seeing the flaw right away.
“You can use Koichi’s scooter,” she said. “He left it behind when he moved out of town. It’s in the courtyard between our building and the ones behind it.” She saw Sakyia’s hesitancy. “It’ll be good for you. Trust me. Not to mention,” she smirked to herself, “Some of my regulars are rather handsome.”
“Ooh!” her mother smiled, eyebrows raised at Sakyia.
“I’m not interested in that.”
“Oh please! A heartbreaker like you? I doubt it,” she rapped her arm and Sakyia smirked. “I remember all the little boys your mother used to tell me about; all of them trying to gain the attention of Tanaka Sakyia and being ignored. You don’t have to marry them, but,” she sneered, “It doesn’t hurt to have some fun.”
“My daughter is not that kind of girl, Hana.”
“I never said she was, but come on, Midori. We used to do the same when we were her age. You didn’t have a proper boyfriend until you met Kenji. But, that’s not important,” she said. “The job is easy and simple. The clients tip well for the service, and they’ll tip twice when they see how pretty you are. You won’t be fighting anyone or be in any sort of danger.” When Sakyia did not appear convinced, she continued, “Look, try it out for a week. I have clients around the district here, so you’ll at least get familiar with the area before you make a decision. How about it?”
Sakyia weighed the pros and cons of this job. It’d include a lot of travel and talking to strangers, going into places of the district she’d yet to explore. Yet, she’d be making her own money, and contributing to her home rather than sweep floors and take calls in a salon for free. This new job will give her something to do, since little Sannoh did not appear to offer much. She looked to her mother, who smiled at her encouragingly. Sakyia felt slightly disappointed. Boring work sounded so nice. No bloody fists. No broken bones or bruised skin. No rings. She’d have only a broom and dustpan; a phone and a computer to write down appointments. With this little bike and parcels, she may run into trouble, which she wished to avoid. But, looking around their new home, they needed the money.
“I’ll give it a shot,” she finally said. “How hard can it really be?”
Hana cheered and smiled widely, “Excellent! Oh, you’re gonna love it! It’ll be an easy gig for you, I promise.”
“You’ll do well,” her mother added, gripping her hand gently.
“I hope so.”
The three women finished their dinner, and then Hana left for the night. Sakyia felt too tired to unpack anything else, so she showered in the small bathroom and crashed onto her new bed. The full mattress squeaked, and felt slightly firm underneath her. It was better than nothing. Her mother took the bed on the other side of the room, and both of them fixed their beds for sleep.
“I think this will be good for us,” her mother said, her voice breaking the silence in the dark room. “This is the new beginning we needed. No debt collectors. No punks. No Jiro. Just you and me and this shabby apartment.”
Sakyia smiled to herself, turning her head to look at her mother a few feet away. “We’ll find a way to make this apartment a home, until we find our own. You’ll buy Sungmi’s salon and have your own business again.”
“And maybe you’ll finally make friends.” She then hesitated, “Possibly even boyfriends.”
“Boyfriends?” she scoffed. “As if.”
“Eh, well, you’re a lot more popular with boys than you’ve ever realized. Jiro kept you so close and isolated, you never noticed the boys. Maybe now that you’re older you’ll become the little heartbreaker your father said you’d be,” she snickered at the last point.
She snorted, pulling the covers to her chin. “He never said that.”
“He did,” she insisted. “He kept saying he’d have to train more to fight off the line of boys that’ll be at our door.” She then said, “Just make sure he’s a nice boy? You know, who comes from a good family, has a job, is kind and gentle with you. A real gentleman.”
“Oh, Ma, can we stop the boyfriend talk, please?”
Midori laughed at her daughter’s groaning, remembering briefly how her husband used to do the same. “Alright, fine. Goodnight, Blossom.”
“Night, Ma.”
****
Her mother busy with setting up the salon and acquainting herself with employees, she’d left Sakyia to her own devices. She ate a quick breakfast of leftovers and washed up. Pulling on her father’s bomber jacket, dark navy and worn in the seams, she tied up half of her hair and went downstairs to find stacks of parcels left on the counter. Hana moved around them, smiling at her.
“Ah good, you’re here,” she said, kissing Sakyia’s cheek. “I got some packages that need to be sent as soon as possible. Don’t worry, I picked out local places so you can get familiar with Sannoh first. That way, if you decide you don’t want the job, my regulars won’t be accustomed to you.”
“Sounds good to me,” she nodded. “What do I do with them? Can that little bike hold all these?”
Hana began explaining the job to her. People normally made calls to have packages picked up or dropped off from one place to another. Sakyia only needed to drop it off, have them sign for it, and she went on to the next place. To pick up orders, she’d have to go to the address on the appointment sheet, and make sure to be there on time since the longer she took, the lower her tip is likely to be. The job sounded easy enough, especially with the bike in the back.
“Here it is,” Hana led her to the courtyard behind the shop, each woman carrying stacks of boxes.
Against a wall leant an aquamarine and white motor scooter. The previous owner painted orange and red flames on the back, and plastered bumper stickers that were later scratched off. Sakyia never rode one before, but it could not be much different from a motorcycle, which she knew how to navigate decently. Attached to the back was a wire cart, which she guessed added extra space for parcels.
“It’s not the fanciest thing in the world,” Hana said, putting her stack carefully in the cart. “But it runs well. If you ever have trouble, there’s a little mechanic shop in town where you can go. Yamato is very good at fixing bikes.”
She recalled Yamato from the previous night. “Hm, noted,” she said, adding hers beside them.
“Here are the keys,” she handed her a small set of keys. “The first place on your list is the Dan Convenience store. The owner is a good friend, but he’s too busy with the store to pick them up. Make sure they get there in one piece.”
Sakyia looked at the clipboard her aunt put on top of the parcels. On it were several names, addresses, and times to be delivered. Her aunt must’ve spent the early morning making phone calls to get them. She supposed she should start right away. Putting on the matching helmet hanging off the handle, she guided the bike around the side of the shop and onto the street. She typed the address into her navigation app, and saw a clear path to the little store. She planted herself firmly on the seat, nerves starting to numb her fingers and toes as she turned on the engine. It hummed to life underneath her, and she pressed the pedal to jolt forward. The first few starts startled her, but once she finally turned onto the street, she got the hang of it. Thankfully, years of maintaining balance helped.
The app took her to a small store a few blocks away. It appeared to be the typical convenience store, with the wide windows displaying special deals or sales. She turned off the bike and removed her helmet. She went over what she’d say as she picked up the first of the big boxes. A simple ‘hello, package for you’ might be a good start. It did not need to be a whole conversation. Though, being the newcomer in town, she might have to actually have a conversation. She’d done fine the other night in the diner. This won’t be any different. Keep things easy. Keep things flowing.
“Welcome!” Two voices said in unison.
Twin girls stood up from the register counter, hands behind their backs and formally bowing their heads when she walked in. She noticed they wore pink and black jackets, and long pink aprons. They were also tall. They almost towered over her.
“Um, good morning,” Sakyia said, “I have some packages for the owner…” she looked at the name on her clipboard, “Dan?”
“Dan’s not the owner,” said the twin with long brown hair.
“His dad is,” said her sister, who had shorter hair in two braids.
“He’s not here right now.”
“You can leave the packages with us.”
“Alright…” she said, but then someone else came up.
“Oh, Sakyia, you’re here.”
It was Dan, one of the Sannoh members, she remembered. Tall with black hair parted to the side, he gave her a smile as he wiped his hands on his apron.
“Morning, Dan,” she said, showing she hadn’t forgotten his name. “I take it by the name, this is your family’s store?”
“Yes, it is,” he nodded, taking the box from her carefully. “My dad’s not here, but I can sign for the packages.”
“Okay, good.”
She handed him the clipboard, and stared around the store. She recalled the empty fridge back home, and considered picking up some of the basics. Sakyia knew she had time in between locations to put the things back home. “Do you sell ready-to-eat meals?” she heard herself ask, peeking the fridges along the wall.
“We do,” he nodded, handing her the clipboard. “We sell lots of things here for a lady on the go,” she noticed his friendly smile, “As well as necessities.”
“Hm, good,” she nodded. “My mom and I moved in yesterday, and neither of us has had time to shop.” She checked her phone for the time. She could do a bit of shopping.
“Oh, so you’re the newcomer,” said the long-haired twin. “Naomi mentioned you. I’m Oshiage-”
“-And I’m Shiba,” said the short-haired one. “She said your mother’s a hairstylist-”
“-And that she’s opening up Sungmi’s salon.”
Did they always do that? Sakyia nodded slowly, “Yeah, she’s working there. She’s really good at what she does. Her salon back home was really popular.”
“Where was, um, home?” Dan asked, hands in his back pockets. “Ms. Kimura mentioned you came from another district.”
“Chikuni Bay,” she answered. “We lived near the warehouse district by the water until we had to move.”
“Gosh, it must’ve been nice living by the water,” he smiled, gazing over her face. Why was he doing that? It unnerved her.
“She’s not interested,” said Shiba, irritably.
“Stop being a creep.”
“I’m not being a creep!” he exclaimed, mouth agape and a blush tinging his cheeks. “I’m only being friendly, that’s all. She’s new and as part of the Sannoh Hoodlum Squad, it’s my duty to make people feel welcome here.”
They rolled their eyes together, unconvinced by his argument. “I think I’ll go, um, get the rest of the boxes-” she began to say, backing away to the doors.
“-No, no, I’ll get them,” Dan insisted. “You can take a look around the shop in the meantime.”
“Alright, thanks.”
She left him to get the packages, while she picked up a basket. Scanning the different aisles, she picked out bread and fruits for the home. She’d been looking at the refrigerated area, examining the different types of ready-to-eat meals on the shelves, when she heard another person enter the store.
“Hey Junko,” the twins said together.
“Hey Twin Towers.”
Sakyia did not really pay much mind to the women who walked into the store. She’d been deciding between a curry meal or a bento box when footsteps approached. The chicken curry and rice sounded more to her mother’s taste. She’d be fine with a bento.
“Hey,” a voice caught her attention. She looked to see two girls dressed in black with long pink and white jackets standing a few feet from her. The one with the short black hair seemed to have spoken. “You’re Ms. Kimura’s niece?”
“I am,” she nodded, putting the two items in her basket. “Who are you?”
“I’m Junko,” she said. “This is Asuka,” she nodded to the girl wearing a long ponytail behind her. “We’re part of Ichigo Milku.”
“Strawberry milk?”
“It’s our favorite drink,” said Asuka. “It's our gang name.”
Ah, another Sannoh gang. “That’s…cool,” Sakyia said, “I wasn’t aware Sannoh had a girl gang.”
“We’re the only ones,” Junko said proudly. “We take care of the women in Sannoh, and make sure they’re safe.”
“How admirable,” she checked her time again, and saw she was running out. “It was nice meeting you guys, but I gotta check out and then get back on my route.”
“We heard your mom’s opening up Sungmi’s salon,” Junko said. “Is she any good?”
“She’s amazing,” she told them honestly. “She does my hair all the time.” Like with Naomi, she showed them her hair cut. “It’s faded out, but she retouches it for me when she has the time,” she added, in case they thought the dye job was bad. She walked over to the register, putting down her items. It wasn’t much, but enough to get them until they could shop together. “She’s hired nail artists too, if you all are interested in that,” she said, “and all the old stylists that used to work there before Sungmi left.”
“That sounds great!” Asuka beamed, “I’ve been dying to get my nails done!”
“Us too!” the two twins said.
They began scanning her items when she spotted the cupcake display. Vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with different colored frosting and sprinkles lined a small case by the register. They looked good. Sakyia could not remember the last time she ate anything sweet. Jiro often kept her on a strict diet, and prohibited sweets. She knew if he stood next to her, he’d sharply scold her for thinking about it. It made her want one even more.
“-Junko,” Asuka whispered her name and nodded to the door.
Sakyia saw Junko’s hard exterior melt once she looked at the door. She turned to see Cobra walking into the shop, hands in his pockets. Sakyia guessed Junko liked him by how she stared at him with dreamy eyes. It reminded her of the girls she used to know in school. She recalled how they acted around boys they liked, and the stupid things they did to get his attention. Sakyia never had time to care about boys; Jiro took up most of it. Cobra noticed them all in the shop, and his eyes locked with hers for a moment. He was as broody today as he’d been last night. Still such a mystery to her.
“Morning,” she said politely, nodding her head at him.
“Morning, Sakyia.”
He took a spot behind her in line, and she noticed the nervous glances Junko and the other girls gave one another. She turned back to the twins, who finished scanning and bagging her meager selection.
“You’re taking up Koichi’s job then?” Cobra asked her, much to the shock of the other girls.
“I am,” she nodded, fishing for her wallet in her jacket pocket. “It helps out my aunt’s business and gives me a little extra money.”
“I’m glad Hana’s back in business,” he said. “Her service helps a lot of people in Sannoh.”
“And helps me out at the same time,” she said, trying her best to joke. He made her nervous with his stare and his handsome face and his presence. She looked at the dessert display again. “How much are the cupcakes?” she asked the twins.
“216 yen each,” said Shiba.
She sucked her teeth. Her slight against Jiro would have to wait another day. She paid for everything, and stepped aside. Another check of her phone told her she needed to get going before her next appointment. She hated her impulsive decisions. Dan having removed his packages, she had space for her bags.
“I’ll see you all around,” she said. That’s something friendly people say, don’t they?
“See ya, Sakyia!” said Asuka and the twins.
“Bye Sakyia!” Dan popped out from the back with a wide smile. “Come back whenever you want, really!”
“Ugh, you’re so pathetic, Dan,” said one of the twins.
Junko seemed too transfixed on Cobra, who only nodded at Sakyia. She felt his eyes on her still as she left the shop. It bothered her so damn much. Why did he have to stare? It made her hot under the collar, and her cheeks flushed pink. She set her bags down inside securely, then looked to see that she needed to get to her next location soon. She entered the next address on her phone when someone came up beside her.
"Here."
Cobra stood next to her bike, handing her a small bag. Inside, on a plate, sat a vanilla cupcake with baby blue frosting. Sakyia looked between him and the cupcake, a bit confused and stunned.
"Thank you," she said, gingerly taking the bag. "You didn't have to do that. I would've gotten it another time."
"I wanted to," he replied, shrugging.
She straddled her bike and put on her helmet with urgency. The small gesture reminded her of another person she’d known. He liked to give her random gifts as well; he used to brush it off too. Jesse was never one for grandiose gestures of affection even at fourteen. She placed the cupcake bag with the ones in the cart, and looked back at him.
“Why?”
“You looked like you could use it.”
“I could use a lot more things than a cupcake.”
“Still, we can find happiness in the little things too, you know.” Her phone pinged, and he said, “Looks like you have a busy day ahead.”
“Seriously busy,” she said. “My aunt’s orders are super backed up; there’s more waiting at the store. I’m sure it would’ve been worse if your friends hadn’t helped her before.”
“Your family’s business helps a lot of people around here, and Hana’s a good friend of my parents,” he said. “It would’ve been cruel of me to not lend a hand. She also helps keep the balance around here.”
“Balance? What ‘balance’?”
“Between the gangs in SWORD,” he answered. “There are five gangs in Chikuni, and we all use your aunt’s business when we want to deal with one another. That way, nobody walks into each other’s territories without warning first.”
“SWORD? The city’s Chikuni though.”
“It’s the nickname. I thought your aunt told you?”
“She neglected to mention it to me,” she grumbled. “Five gangs? Are they dangerous?”
“They can be, if you’re not careful. But, I’m sure once you tell them who you work for, they’ll lay off you,” he explained. “I’m sure Hana’s already informed the other leaders about you too.”
“Lovely. She warns them, but not me.”
“She probably didn’t want to scare you off the job,” he suggested. “Besides, perhaps she thinks you’re capable of handling it. Koichi was a pretty good fighter too.”
“Fighting?”
“Like I said, ‘five gangs’.” He stepped forward, “I could, you know, come with you? That way, you’ll have some protection.”
“I don’t need it.” She said this quicker than she meant to. “I’m sure I’ll be fine.”
Her sudden rejection didn’t upset Cobra. He smirked and said, “Yeah, you will be, huh?”
She hated the feeling that smirk gave her. Cobra’s gentle eyes and words made her nervous. Not in the ‘fight-or-flight’ way she’d become so accustomed to either. Her mother used to call it ‘the butterflies’, and she didn’t like them. They made her warm and hopeful, like she’d been as a girl in school.
“See you around,” she said quickly. “Thanks again for the cupcake."
"No problem."
Sakyia started the scooter and went on her way. Chikuni City had five gangs, all controlling different parts of the city, and her aunt’s little delivery business kept them from fighting. Sakyia knew the job sounded a bit too good to be true. She decided she’d ask her aunt about it later, but she’ll keep it from her mother. Her mother worries plenty about everything else; Sakyia won’t pile on any supposed possibilities. She just hoped she did not have to fight. She was done fighting. Sakyia pushed Cobra and the gangs to the back of her mind, then carried on with her day.
She dropped off a few more packages to different locations, meeting her aunt’s customers and people around the town. The gangs aside, the people of Sannoh greeted her with friendly smiles. Mrs. Saito owns an antique shop, and she gave Sakyia a small beckoning cat keychain for good luck. Mr. Ito runs a grocery store, and told her amusing stories about his youth in Sannoh whilst she waited for his signature. People seemed to know all about her parents, and her mother opened the salon. Sakyia did what she could to spread the word herself, hoping it’ll help. She’d gone to the salon for lunch, giving her mother one of the meals she’d bought, and told her about her morning.
“Ah, I remember Mrs. Saito. Your grandmother loved going into her shop. She has a lot of interesting things in there,” she smiled fondly at the memory. She sat across from Sakyia on one of the hair drying chairs, who sat on the barber chair. “I missed this place,” she said, chewing a piece of chicken curry with rice. “I always meant to bring you here one day so you can see where your father and I grew up, but I never got around to it.” She noticed the cupcake Sakyia had sitting with the rest of the groceries. “You bought a sweet treat, huh?” she smiled, “Jiro would’ve scolded you if he was here.”
“It’s why I wanted it, but I didn’t have enough for it.”
“Then how did you get it?”
She slurped some of the chicken broth in her cup, then said, “Junpei.” Her mother hid her grin behind a scoop of rice. “Ugh, it didn’t mean anything. He was only being friendly.”
“There’s a difference between ‘friendly’ and ‘friendly’, she smirked. “Your aunt tells me he’s a very nice boy.”
“Ma…” she said warningly.
“Alright, alright,” she finished off her meal, and dumped it in the trash. “I’ll lay off. But, you can at least try making friends your own age. I know that’s easier said than done, but I…I want you to have a life, Sakyia.”
She knew this. Jiro robbed her of a proper social life and childhood. From thirteen to twenty-five, Sakyia cannot say she had any ‘proper’ friends.
“You know who you should call up one day?” her mother broke into her thoughts. “That boy you used to hang around with when you were younger. What was his name? Skinny boy with black hair? Never wore his shoes the right way?”
“Jesse?”
Sakyia’s stomach rumbled, and she stopped eating her ramen. She remembered Jesse vividly. A lot of teenagers fought in the warehouse pits during her time there. The managers often pitted them against one another to keep things fair, but occasionally she’d fight people bigger than her. Jesse was one of the kids she often fought against. Strong and fast with lots of stamina, it always took several rounds before either of them went down. Jesse never yielded. He either knocked her out or she knocked him out. One night, after a fight, they got to talking in the locker room and clicked. She often met up with him at the warehouse since he lived in Little Asia, and she lived near the bay. He liked her. She didn’t know at the time, but as a woman now, the signs were obvious. He went easy on her in fights; he often tended to her wounds afterwards; he hung around her before and afterwards, and even brought her a flower for her birthday.
“I heard he’s in prison,” she said, remembering the boy who wore his sneakers like sandals. Word spread that he’d been lifted by police and gone to Rasan Prison, where he’s been for a long time. “So, there isn’t any way of ‘calling him’.” Not that she would. It’d been so long ago, she doubted her recalled her at all.
“What a shame,” her mother mused, going back to fixing up the hair station. “He’d liked you a lot.”
Her phone rang in her pocket, and Sakyia sighed. “I have to go, Ma,” she told her, cleaning up her spot and dumping the garbage. “Auntie Hana gave me a long list of drop-offs for today, so I might not be back until later.”
“Be careful, Blossom,” she said, kissing her daughter’s cheek.
They said their farewells, and Sakyia went back on her route. Sannoh didn't seem like a bad place. People were friendly in a way that threw her off at times. She blamed it on the places where she received nothing but grimaces of pain or dirty glares. She briefly remembered Jesse, who'd always smiled at her approach. He did it when he fought her too, teasing and goading her into charging at him. Sannoh might've been different after all.
The sky turned dark by the time she finished delivering packages around the area. She’d driven back towards home when she noticed the gas tank dial. The tiny yellow hand pointed dangerously close to the ‘empty’ symbol. She’ll admit she’d put off getting gas since she wanted to get to her drop offs and pickups on time. Yet, cruising through the streets, she worried she may not make it home on a near empty tank. She remembered passing a gas station on her way southwards, so she searched on her phone for the station and drove in its direction.
‘Hina Gas’ went across the top in bold letters. It appeared a bit run down, but nothing that threw her guard off. Sakyia parked the scooter by a pump, then went inside. ‘The butterflies’ made their return. Cobra sat behind the register, magazine in his lap and his feet propped on a counter. His head poked up when the doorbell jingled throughout the small store.
“Hey,” she heard herself say out loud.
“Hey,” he said. “It’s late. Shouldn’t you be home?”
“Shouldn’t you?”
“I live nearby.”
“So do I.” Why is everything an inquest with this man? “I just needed gas,” she nodded to the pumps outside, “Otherwise I’d get stranded.”
She walked up to the counter, and he stood from his chair. The air remained tense and quiet. They didn’t have to talk. It’s not needed. Yet, the butterflies continued fluttering in her stomach. Cobra put in the gas charge, and she fished through her bag for the cash.
“How was it?” he asked, processing her payment.
“Huh?”
“Your day,” he specified. “How’d it go?”
“Oh, um, it went well. My aunt kept most of the addresses in Sannoh, so at least I can see the rest of the place,” she said, fiddling with the strap of her bag. Her fingernails picked into the polyester strap, dragging over the prints nervously. “It’s actually a nice place. The people I’ve met are nice, at least. Mrs. Saito from the antique store gave me this little cat charm,” she showed it to him, the golden cat hanging from her keychain. “For good luck,” she continued. “Overall, not a bad day. How was yours?” it only felt right to ask, since he did first.
The corner of his mouth twitched at the cat. He handed her back the bills, and said, “It’s been a quiet one, that’s for sure, but not unpleasant.” He hesitated, about to add on to it before stopping himself. “It is, um, you know, getting late though. Sannoh isn’t always as pleasant at night. You really shouldn’t go on your own.”
“I have my scooter. No worries,” she insisted, putting her money away. “I can just ride away if danger comes near me.”
“Still,” he said, looking over her face, “Be careful.”
“I will, thanks. Night.”
“Night.”
She moved to leave when someone else entered the shop. Seeing his black hair hanging over his eyes, dressed in a hoodie and jeans, Noboru leaned on a walking stick as he walked in. He looked different from the young man who’d come to her old house a month and a half ago. His eyes met hers, and he gave a friendly grin.
“Oh, hello, Sakyia,” he said, giving a bow of his head. “I heard you and your mom moved into the neighborhood.” He went over to the counter, giving Cobra a fist pump. “I hope you settled in okay.”
“We did, thanks,” she said. “What happened to your leg? You weren’t injured when we met.”
“You’ve met before?” Cobra asked, looking between them.
“An accident,” he answered Sakyia. “It’s a bit of a complicated story, but I no longer work for the Iemura family.”
Sakyia did not need him to tell her more. He must’ve upset them somehow, and they’d punished him for it. She pitied him. “I’m sorry that happened to you,” she told him. “You and Kawata helped my mother and I a lot. She told me later you’d been the one who suggested the exchange.”
“I thought it’d benefit everyone involved,” he shrugged. “You and your mother could have a new life somewhere else, and Iemura would get their money.”
“And Jiro?” she asked cautiously.
“I don’t know,” he shook his head. “They’re still looking for him, from what I heard.”
Jiro escaped them. She figured he would. He’s too cowardly to own up to his mistakes. It was why he forced Sakyia to do it. “I know this might sound harsh to say, but I hope they do find him,” she said. Knowing Jiro, he’ll crop up somewhere eventually. “He deserves whatever they give him.”
“That is a bit harsh-”
“-I’m sorry, but how do you two know each other?” Cobra asked a second time, a bit louder.
“Sakyia’s mother sold her salon in Chikuni Bay to Kuryu,” he told him before Sakyia could intervene. “I heard she’s managing Sungmi’s salon though,” he looked at Sakyia. “I was just talking to Naomi, and she told me.”
“She is.”
“Why did she sell her salon?” asked Cobra.
“Because we were moving,” Sakyia lied. “She couldn’t manage it from somewhere else, so she sold it to start over.”
Cobra did not believe her. She could tell in the way he slightly raised his eyebrows. “I gotta go,” she said hurriedly. “It’s getting late, and my mom’s waiting. I’ll see you guys around.”
“Night,” Noboru said innocently.
“Night.”
She left the gas station before any more questions came up. Her mother waited for her at home, and she’d been out too long already. She didn't have time for anyone’s prying questions.
Especially not Cobra’s.

hi 🙂 can you do roman roy x asexual fem reader where reader has a crush on roman (shaky hands blushy cheeks when he is close) and gardener in logan's house, so one day roman is walking in garden and hears her talking on the phone with her friend about how she doesnt want to have sex with anyone, and will never have children etc. And realizes she is just like him. Aaaand He starts talking to her...
ofc and i hope you enjoy!
content: ace!reader, f!reader, pining, fluff, mention of sex
Your mornings started with a 20-minute commute to manage Logan Roy’s garden. What the fuck does he know about flowers? To your surprise, a lot. Marica hired you as a gift for Logan. She told you his mother used to bring discounted bouquets home when he was a kid, so no pressure.
Today went on like the others, showing up at nine, and doing your job, except for the part where his kids stopped by. Fuck.
His youngest, Roman always caught your eye. Usually, you would be there for a few hours and be gone by noon, but now Roman was here. You tried prolonging your stay, now glad you began wearing summer dresses to combat the warmth.
Frankly, you've never spoken to any of Logan’s kids. They'd sometimes call out to you, or Roman would comment on Logan, “only hiring hot people.”
Before heading out, you phoned your roommate, who teases you because you casually walk into a billionaire's home every day.
They picked up within two rings “Hey, what’s up are you almost off yet? Or does the old man want you to be human furniture?” They say with a sarcastic tone. You laugh but also don't put it past the family.
“I’m about to go, it's just, you know his son? Roman, the one I keep telling you about?” You were slightly pacing, turning to peer inside, but it’s not like you could look in if you want to. Logan made it impossible for anyone to peek in.
The call caused Logan to notice you chatting and not working. He sent Roman to check on you, which caused him to feel Logan was punishing him by sending him outside. With a soft exhale, mixed with a groan, Roman headed towards the terrace.
“Oh? Should I break out candles? Pre-order a new mattress?” The other line egged on. You rolled your eyes at the comment, completely forgetting you were at work. The terrace was rather big. It wrapped around half the suite. Making Roman’s entrance undetected.
“Yeah, sure. But for real, It’s not like a sex thing. You know I’m not into that,” you slightly clear your throat, embarrassed by the thought someone would hear you from inside. Unbeknownst to you, Roman was listening to the conversation. When he heard you talking about sex, he panicked and moved toward the wall so you couldn’t see him. He thought it would be worse if you found out someone heard you. “It’s already bad enough it’s my boss's son.” That caught Roman’s attention, apart from him fearing you were talking about Kendall, but he couldn’t stop listening. Like a book he couldn’t put down.
“I think that makes it more fun. You know, sneaking around. But without the sex. Anyway, what was he wearing? I need more details than just his name and what the press says. C’mon, tell me who is the Roman Roy.” You liked how engaged your friend was, fearing opening up about your crush would end in humiliation.
“I don’t know what he’s wearing, I can’t see through the glass. But uh, I don’t know ‘the real Roman Roy'. I don’t interact with any of them. They’re all scary as shit, but I think it's time to head out. It’s fucking scalding.” Followed by exchanging goodbyes and looking up when the next train was going out.
Roman knew that conversation was about him, which made him nervous talking to you. It wasn't the first time you piqued his interest, how your wardrobe changed according to the weather, and how meticulous you get about the garden's appearance. You fascinated him. He also felt relief hearing you didn't want to sleep with him. Intimacy was his grey area, and he loved not feeling pressure to do it.
Roman waited a few seconds before emerging and speaking up, “Uh, my dad um, just wanted to know what you were doing out here,” Oh my god. He undoubtedly heard you. You wanted to curl up and die or resign out of embarrassment. Maybe he JUST got here, let's hope.
You turned to face him, feeling your face flush, “Oh, just heading out, looking when the next train is going out,” You put on a smile, hoping it makes you seem coy. It didn’t. Even if he didn’t overhear you, your face was beet red and your hands were slightly shaking.
“Well, I was about to head out, maybe, I can give you a ride? Or get a drink somewhere?” You could've sworn your face turned scarlet. Holy Shit. You stood in awe for a second, unable to fathom the words he spat out. “Um, y/n? Are you having a heat stroke or something?” He shields his eyes, feeling the heat against his skin, “He is a piece of shit for making you work out here, wow.”
You finally grasped what he said, “Y-yeah it’s actual hell out here, but going out sounds fun yeah.” You tried your best to sound easygoing after facing the worst embarrassment you've ever endured.
“Cool, uh, my driver is downstairs already,” he said in a merciful tone, gesturing for you to exit first.
The car ride was mostly silent. A few questions got thrown out asking about your job to ease the drive. The bar was incredibly upscale, feeling out of place arriving in your work clothes. Roman did his best to make you feel comfortable, he paid for the tab, and reserved a quiet area; he was trying to impress you. He asked about your life while you tried your best to pry about his.
“C’mon, tell me about something not so surface,” you paw at him, the two of you facing each other. You scanned his face as he took a sip of his drink, patiently waiting for his response.
He set the drink down, slightly smiling to himself because of the comeback he came up with, “So you could know ‘the real Roman Roy?’"
