Team Sunrise ☀️

Sunny and Mari - an Absol and an Espurr, respectively. Siblings who woke up in the Vast Forest with no memories from before waking up there. The only thing the two are sure about is that they were both originally human. Team Sunrise was formed in order to find out what happened to them and to try and get them back home. Sunny is quiet and doesn’t speak up much, content with going along with everyone else. Mari, in contrast, is outgoing and talkative, but has some perfectionist tendencies that can lead to her becoming stressed easily

Kel - a Growlithe and Hero’s younger brother. Very hyperactive and excitable, he’s wanted to be a part of an exploration team for some time, and is ecstatic that Sunny and Mari’s situation has given him an opportunity to be a part of one. He tries his best to remain happy and positive no matter the situation, but deep down, is hiding a huge inferiority complex in relation to his older brother

Aubrey - a Buneary who moved to Faraway Town by herself some time ago. She puts on a tough personality to hide her deep insecurities, stemming from her mother’s upbringing. However, the forming of Team Sunrise allows her to start dropping some of those walls, and she grows especially close to Mari, viewing her as an older sister figure

Hero - a Kirlia and Kel’s older brother. Being the oldest of the group, he finds himself responsible for making sure his younger friends don’t get into any trouble. Despite his mother’s pressure to evolve into a Gardevoir and become a doctor, Hero is much more content staying in Faraway and improving his skill in cooking. He wears an Everstone around his neck, but no one else on the team knows that’s what it is

Basil - a Shaymin who once lived in the hidden and elusive Shaymin Village, but ran away after being ostracized by his peers for refusing to transform into sky form. After being found by Polly, he moved to Faraway Town with her and has lived under her care since. He is very timid and scared of fighting, and so focuses more on providing healing and support during missions rather than getting directly involved in battle

Destiny took a breath, grass softly rustling beneath her paws as she approached the trio of lights, scarf blowing in the wind behind her. She gently smiled up at them, reaching into a small bag she'd brought with her.

She set down a simple clay bowl, lining the inside with different kinds of berries, species that were exceedingly rare, and each with a different combination of flavors. Beside the bowl, she set down a thermos filled with fresh water, the cap slightly loosened to more easily remove with paws.

"Hello there," she greeted. "I don't know if you've met my counterpart in this timeline, but I'm sure you'll recognize her if she shows up. I don't really have any big questions or requests. I just wanted to offer you something for the heck of it."

"Call it atonement if you desire." She said, taking out her book and, with practiced precision, opening it to the page that described Acacia's greatest sin... her greatest sin. One that helped set the countdown to her world's destruction in motion, a cataclysm she and Cin had spent countless millennia working to prevent at least one timeline from falling victim to. It's clear that she's turned to this page a great many times.

"So many worlds. Each time changing a small part of the timeline. Guiding a hero differently, perhaps making them a different Pokémon when they arrive in our world..."

Destiny flipped through the pages of the book. So many different timelines, with minimal changes in the eventual outcome that she was working hard to prevent: absolute annihilation of her universe. But this timeline, it was the most unique one.

Two new players in Echo, Acacia's mirror counterpart, and Nameless, the first Monarch Experiment, were already setting this outcome down a radically different chain of events. And in that chain of events, she found a glimmer of hope...

"So many things are different in this timeline, I can't even begin to guess what might happen..." She said softly, reaching the end of the book, blank pages staring up at her, waiting to be filled with what's to come.

She set the book down on the grass beside her. "And you know what? After so long... So many times watching the same events play out over and over..." She reached up towards her blindfold, tentatively rubbing the fabric that had covered her eyes. The Shaymin wrapped her paw around the end, beginning to tug it away. Her eyes opened slowly, revealing a piercing blue color that gently glowed. She blinked a few times, her eyesight readjusting to the light around her.

"I'm beginning to think... Perhaps this timeline... It can be the one where things turn out alright..."

"This could be the one where everyone's sacrifices to get me and Cin here weren't in vain..." She paused again, thinking of the other sole survivor's gambit to buy her enough time to open her first gate, so long ago ... and who inevitably burnt her life away to give her the chance to make a better outcome. "Mint's especially..."

To her, every collective sacrifice all of her friends made across the multitude of different outcomes she and Cin had created, all of it led to one goal: a world that could continue to live. That's the only thing she wished for right now, even if such a world didn't have a place for her. She smiled up at the Magi.

"Thanks for listening to me rant about all that. I think it's helped me get some of my thoughts in order."

"Plus, I've just gotta say that you look really nice!" She briefly paused, blinking as she looked to the others, which to her were just balls of light. "... Even though I can only really see one of you."

"And if this timeline's Acacia ever drops by, I was never here. Shay would never let Cin and I hear the end of it if it found out about my little trip here."

Who are your favorite yautja artists? And what do you like most about each person's art?

I have a lot of favorites, so be prepared for a huge list

first on my list is @ isei-silva / @ isei-bleeds I love how their artwork looks like watercolor paintings. the grainy texture in their art isn't too obvious, but its very subtle. I love their use of colors in their work, usually having darker shades and tones. I also love their non-yautja artwork. their art style is just gorgeous

next is @ a-z-u-l-g. The amount of shear detail in their rendered artwork is stunning. oh how I strive to get that good lol. its very inspirational. I love their realism and their use of shading.

@ lunaerebus Their artwork looks like it was drawn traditionally and then digitized. it has that same grainy texture that looks like water color

@ crispy-ghee I love their messy but professional art style. though they haven't posted any yautja related things in a while, I still love their work (even if its just art of their favorite basketball players). I also love how they draw short comics.

b/w & b2/w2 I BELIEVE IN GEN5 SUPREMACY !!! the MUSIC!!!! THE GRAPHICSSS GOD THE LIMITED 3D GRAPHICS THEYRE SO CHARMING!!!!!!! not to mention the loml N!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! god i feel so much about N. honestly the motivations of the evil team r actually so interesting and I think it makes for some of the most compelling story u see in the early pokemon games. pokemon liberation??? hello???? it's one thing to want to take over the world or like. flood the earth but to manipulate the masses and play to people's guilty conscience by insinuating that they might be Hurting pokemon by keeping them captive??? they did not have to cook so severely with that concept but i'm so glad they did. That being said I think I prefer the story of the original b/w games just because of how new and unsettling it was to encounter team plasma for the first time and all the interactions with N, but I do rly appreciate how the sequels expounded on them! colress is ok as a villain and even more ok as mad scientist twink eyecandy so I'll allow him gfsdjh I also do like that b2/w2 included more pokemon in the base games I love you early riolu i love you castelia city eevee encounter,,,. I also LOVE how they tried to pull a Trainer Red 2.0 with the postgame battle against the b/w MC in the sequels god gen5 is so GOOD :’)

Platinum i mean is anyone surprised hfdsjg sinnoh is art to me. fr all i rave about gen5 gen4 is the one I grew up with and played alongside my friend group as a kid so when it comes to the nostalgia factor, sinnoh is unmatched. The legendaries in this gen r iconic and so well designed there is not a single one that sticks out as a hard miss. sinnoh gave us cresselia and darkrai it gave us 2 forms of shaymin it gave us !!! glaceon!!!!!!!! i love u sinnoh always <3

i also have to give an honourary mention to sw/sh gdfshjgdsjk games that arguably get an even Worse rep ik but hear me out. they were my return to the pokemon games after having skipped gens 6-7 entirely and I enjoyed my playthrough SO much I genuinely had so much fun. I wasn’t too put off by the glitches or the objectively bad plot, I was just so happy to be playing pokemon again :’> ALSO I am a proud Hop defender I respect the hell out of the writers for the arc they gave him. Was it rushed and underdeveloped yes but by pokemon game standards? I honestly found Hop’s self-doubt n identity crisis super moving sue me. Also the trainer character designs r so GOOD RAIHAN CALL ME

speaking of pmd, im on chapter 13 now and im .

hands on head. DUSKNOIR SAVING ARCHER AND ZETA. like admittedly i am annoyed that the Grovyle bossfight was near-flawless on my part and i still got wiped out in the cutscene, but. Archer still trying to stand his ground against him and Dusknoir jumping in last-second. AAAAAAAAAA.

bc Zeta couldnt even do anything!! he probably got hurt worse by Grovyle bc of type weakness so he's barely conscious about to watch his friend get fucking murdered, and even if he could get up he's too far away to make it in time, and. he still had some mixed emotions abt Dusknoir bc of the "no control over Dusknoir finding out about him" thing, but after he saves Archer Zeta is beyond grateful.

AND THENNNN WE GET TO THE CH13 OPENING REVEAAALLLLL. which is something i knew going in from fandom osmosis but YAY YIPPEE WE'RE HERE!! Grovyle and Dusknoir are from the future!! however i did not fully process the "stealing the time gears will freeze the entire world" thing until Dusknoir explained it so im just sitting here like. HOUGH. WHY WOULD YOU WANT THAT. Grovyle what on EARTH is going through your head. like i know what his deal is but not why are you trying to end the world, tall man

side note, how many time gears are there? bc two were stolen from treeshroud forest and another place i forgot the name of, and then Uxie and Mesprit's gears. is Azelf's the last one? are there five??? also i wonder who protected the first two or if its just the last three that are special enough to get protectors. Hi! Since I've been trying to write my own pokepastas (or aus of already existing ones) I just gotta ask, what helps you get ideas for stories? Your stories are always so wonderful and they always give me inspiration (thank you haha!), what helps you think of them?

hi! thanks for the question!

i can't take credit for some of the older stories that i inherited (like dead channel or explorers of death), but i think they still apply to my own philosophy for how i go about writing my own pokepastas. pokemon dead channel is based on the guilt that comes with the inevitability of when you stop playing with the pikachu you spent the entire game making into your best friend, eod is based on the guilt of cheating the mystery dungeon quiz. they're universal experiences that anyone who's played those games can relate to, which gives those stories the hook they need.

as for the stories that -i've- made? they're usually based on some personal experience or feelings i've had with pokemon. like, as an example - forever mine was based on a real cheated shaymin that i felt regret over releasing. bad egg manaphy was based on my own experiences with cheating and how it ruined not just my manaphy egg but my entire childhood diamond save file. fallen leaf was based on my childhood confusion of why red was on mt silver and not leaf, even though i was playing as a girl. and, as i've gone into detail before, monochrome was based on my slow and painful breakup with modern pokemon, and how it affected my love for the older games as well.

so a lot of my stories are based on what i've experienced, and my stories were inspired by that. it's definitely a lot easier to write something that's based on what you already know - at least for me.

but sometimes it's not that deeply personal, sometimes it's just about making something that's fun. my favorite philosophy when making stories is "come up with a cool idea first, make up a reason/justification for why it happens as i go along." and sometimes it's just me going, "hey, wouldn't it be fucked up if [x]" and rolling from there. for example - jack, dummy and ❤︎ all fall into this category. like, "wouldn't it be fucked up if the red from pokemon black actually Liked killing other pokemon characters and wanted to spread out to other games and ruin other peoples' save files as well?" "wouldn't it be fucked up if there was an NPC who ripped you off and stole your pokemon by trading you a worthless glitch pokemon, but it turned out that NPC was also acting out of revenge for [a sympathetic reason]?" "wouldn't it be fucked up if you were a lonely kid who thought you were making a connection with another random human player who was just being really nice to you, only to find out that you'd made a faustian bargain with them from the moment you first traded pokemon with them?"

when it's not just me being self-indulgent though, i like to fixate on specific gameplay elements in pokemon games as well - hm slave is based entirely around the concept of hm slaves and how that gameplay style isn't just abusive for the hm slaves, but also for the other teammates who have to stand by and watch it happen. there's also some other scrapped ideas i had that i still like, like making a pasta based on the cute charm glitch or the minusle urban legend. there's lots of different things in pokemon to fixate on for your stories! whether it's something based on a personal experience you had with a specific pokemon, the feelings that those games gave you when you played a certain way, all of the glitches or urban legends about the games, i think the possibilities are endless!

tldr; my pokepasta stories are either based on personal experience/feelings i've had with pokemon, or just the fun idea of "wouldn't it be fucked up if [x]". sometimes these two things intersect.

but ultimately i think what's most important is just making something that's fun for you personally, and basing your story around that. good luck!

Jasper was running again. Across endless plains, flowing grasses grabbing at his feet, trying to catch him. Sun bearing down, its heat coursing through his veins. The ground was uneven, and Jasper's feet kept slipping. It was like everything was trying to bring him to a crashing halt, all for the lion which chased him. Yet, even as he fell, Jasper knew the beast wouldn't catch him; not tonight.

Jolting awake, Jasper's eyes snapped open. They were at the Shaymin village. By the time they descended the mountain yesterday, night was falling, and they were exhausted. Thankfully, the Shaymin had several huts set apart for visitors. It was plain, but it had beds, four walls and a roof. Sometimes, that's all you can ask for.

A strange noise reached Jasper's ears. His brows furrowed and he scanned the room carefully. Buia was sound asleep in a bed beside him, curled backwards on herself. How she slept like that, Jasper would never know.

The noise came again, a pained groaning from across the room. It was coming from Patch. Seems like Jasper wasn't the only one fighting nightmares. The Darkrai was tossing about, hands clenched. Patch grunted and muttered in his sleep. Jasper managed to pick out a few words.

"Back. Come back."

Jasper walked from the hut, leaving Patch to his nightmares.

Outside, the morning sun was shimmering on the horizon. It was pink and orange and gold, pouring out across the land. The grass underfoot was wet with dew and a morning mist hung in the air.

Jasper stretched his tired muscles, aching all over. He watched the sunrise. By now, he'd seen it countless times, but it always made his heart lurch. Something deep in him worried that one day it just wouldn’t come back. Perhaps his lost memories of the dark future still pulled at him.

Lost in thought, Jasper didn't notice Patch floating beside him. The Darkrai was eerily silent, and he offered no greetings. Together, they watched the sunrise.

Eventually, Buia woke and joined them noisily, like a brick smashing through glass. Though, Jasper wasn't thrown off. He smiled at the sight of his partner. Patch couldn't help but wonder at the fondness between the pair. That they were so close is a good thing, right?

After a hearty breakfast, the trio said their goodbyes to the village and returned to Treasure Town. The flight back was much more relaxed. Thankfully, Jasper drifted on the winds, Buia hanging from his talons, instead of racing away. Patch flew alongside them, chatting with Buia.

As the sun reached its zenith, Treasure Town came into view, and they descended upon their home. They landed by the crossroad and Buia stretched noisily.

"Dang, that was a long flight!"

"You're telling me," grumbled Jasper, flexing his cramping talons.

Patch smoothed down the scarf on his arm; it had nearly blown away once or twice on the flight. "So, what now?"

Buia headed for town. "I wanna swing by home, real quick. After, maybe we can take a job nearby?"

Treasure Town was lively that day. Everyone was out and about, enjoying the beautiful weather. They had hardly a care in the world. Clearly, they were unaware of just who had returned to town that morning.

Passing down the main street, Buia called greetings and waved to several friends, but as they left town and came to Sharpedo Bluff, her enthusiasm fell. There, standing by the edge of the cliff, arms folded and staring out over the sea, was Dusknoir. His back was wide open.

Buia charged, yelling and leaping. Dusknoir turned, a curious expression on his face. Buia's feet slammed into his gut, pushing him off the cliff and... nothing happened.

Dusknoir clutched at his stomach, groaning. He hovered in the open air.

Buia glared. "You were supposed to fall."

Sucking in air, Dusknoir pulled himself upright and moved back onto land. "Sorry to disappoint. Did Celebi and Forrest not explain my change of heart?""

Buia crossed her arms. "They did. I still wanna beat you up, though."

"Understandable. Perhaps we could spar sometime?"

"I'm free this afternoon."

Dusknoir nodded. "Jasper, what of you? Do you also wish to, how do the kids say, throw hands?"

Jasper was frozen. The words were caught in his throat, and when he forced them out, they were too weak to hear. "N-no," he repeated, firmer this time.

Dusknoir nodded. "Then, I shall make amends a different way. Also, regardless of your team's feelings for me, I must thank you for looking after my son."

Buia's jaw dropped. "Huh?"

Dusknoir spread his arms wide. "Patch, my boy, it is good to see you again."

At this moment, Buia went ballistic. She screamed words I am unable to repeat here. So, just use your imagination. If you learned you'd taken in the son of your arch enemy, how would you feel?

Of course, Buia didn't yet know, the son of her arch enemy had been around much longer than Patch had. Patch and Jasper being the same person means Jasper is Dusknoir’s son, whether he remembers it or not. Dusknoir had sworn the others to secrecy, at least until Dusknoir could talk to Patch.

A human boy brought to the Pokemon world. After an incident turned him into Darkrai, he caused the planet's paralysis and forced Dusknoir to act upon the primal instinct to survive. Not knowing this, a younger version of Patch, that is, Jasper, met Forrest and Celebi, and set out to restore the future. Thereby resulting in the story, you know and love.

Since being thwarted by his past self, Patch had taken a new name and come to Treasure Town. He was determined to prevent Jasper's inevitable corruption, and transformation into Darkrai. If Patch failed, it may begin a cycle of planetary paralysis, and pain, that would never end.

Patch had screwed up the first time around. He wouldn't let Jasper make the same mistakes. Then, when all this was done, Celebi would destroy Patch, and things would be as they should. This explanation may seem redundant, but hey, you’re not the narrator, so back off!

Patch stood deathly still, staring at his surrogate father. "How did you find me?"

Dusknoir folded his hands. "A mutual friend."

Celebi. That snitch! When Patch got his hands on her, he would-

"Wait, wait, wait!" Buia yelled, waving her paws wildly. "Time out! Patch is your son?"

Dusknoir nodded.

"Then, everything you did was because you didn't want Patch to disappear?"

Dusknoir stared directly at Patch and nodded again. It wasn't the truth, but it made Dusknoir feel better to believe it.

Buia's arms fell, and she moved to stand beside Jasper, leaning against him. "I guess... I can understand that."

Dusknoir smiled weakly at Buia. "I am truly sorry for everything."

Jasper's feathers stood on end, and he stalked towards the old ghost. "For everything? For deceiving us? For trying to kill us? FOR PRETENDING TO CARE?!"

Something stabbed at Jasper's heart, and he couldn't keep the disgust from his face. His memories robbed from him; Jasper didn't know that Dusknoir was once his beloved father. Didn't know the ghost had been robbed of free will. Didn't know that Dusknoir really did care.

"Get lost. Take your apologies with you." Jasper made for the stairs, disappearing inside the bluff.

Tears sprung to Buia's eyes. She glanced at Patch and Dusknoir, scoffing. "You two should go. I'll come find you later.” Buia raced after her partner.

Inside the bluff, Jasper was pacing, his eyes narrowed dangerously. He muttered under his breath. Buia's heart broke at the sight. In all their time together, she had never seen him like this. "Jay?"

"He really thinks he can come waltzing back? Like nothing happened! I don't care how good his reasons were! If he wants to be happy, he can do it away from us."

"Jasper."

He threw his wings in the air. "He came back for Patch, right? Not us? Good! They can both leave and things can go back to how they were!"

Buia knelt in front of Jasper, holding his wings gently. "Hey, hey, look at me. It's okay. We're okay. He's not gonna hurt us again."

Jasper trembled, tears stinging his eyes. "S-sorry. I'm sorry." Breaking free of her grip, he turned away, wiping at his eyes. "Sorry. Just, give me a moment." He coughed to clear his throat, but it couldn't hide his broken sobs.

Buia didn't know what to do. Not in the Dark Future. Not against Primal Dialga: Buia had never seen Jasper like this. She reached for him, but when her paw landed on his back, Jasper flinched away. She sat, helplessly watching her partner cry, while he pretended she wasn't there.

Meanwhile, Patch and Dusknoir had cut across the waves, drifting over to the beach. Patch grabbed a stick and drew idly in the sand.

"So, have you been well?"

Patch quirked a brow. "Really? That's where you want to start?"

Sighing, Dusknoir dropped slowly, to rest upon the sand. "What would you like me to say?"

Patch shrugged and dropped his stick. "I don't know." Moving to sit beside his dad, Patch stared out at the horizon. "Celebi said you were looking for me in the future. What were you gonna say if you found me there?"

"I'm sorry."

Patch's head whipped around to stare at Dusknoir in disbelief. "What?"

"I wanted to tell you I'm sorry. That you're still my son. And I love you."

Patch's gaze returned to the horizon. "My dad is dead."

Dusknoir nodded. "That may be so, but you are my son."

"Jasper is your son."

"Are you not Jasper?"

"No. Not anymore."

Standing, Dusknoir rubbed at his chin and floated in a slow circle around the Darkrai. "Strange. You look like Jasper."

"I'm literally a different species."

"You sound like my boy. Talk like him, too. Are you sure you're not my son?"

Patch nearly snapped a response, but Dusknoir interrupted. "Don't answer yet! Take some time to think it over. Then, let me know. In the meantime, could I ask for a hug?"

Patch's voice caught in his throat, so he pushed himself to his feet and wrapped his arms around Dusknoir's shoulders. Dusknoir laughed and held him tight.

The Dusknoir from Patch's time was long gone. This Dusknoir hadn't even recognised Patch when he first appeared. Yet, Patch knew these arms. This embrace; soft, strong, safe. Yes, Patch had forgotten after so long, but he knew these arms, knew this feeling. Patch's breath rattled in his chest and he tightened his grip.

Dusknoir smiled. "I've missed you terribly."

The Epilogue dropped today: Mochi Madness. Its not a DLC, but rather an Event that's like a tad more complicated version of past events on the DS and GBA games- Such as how you'd obtain Victini, Darkrai, Shaymin, etc.

Although, I'll be honest, I wouldn't call it an "epilogue" because all it really does is introduce the friend groups to each other and then have a fun side adventure. Think of it like a fun, campy OVA or special episode to a concluded season. An "epilogue" would have done something to tie up the final loose ends of the story, imo.

But I'm not going to be a downer about it- This was fun, hilarious, and honestly what I've always wanted Events to be before they became mythical pokemon handouts. Although, I would have rather had some more to do, such as some of those strange structures deeper in Oni Mountain or just delving deeper into the connections between Ogerpon, Pecharunt, and the Lousy Three- although they were at least decent enough to provide small easter eggs to it, such as Ogerpon crying out when you bring her out to battle Pecharunt, Pecharunt crying out when fighting one of the Three, and Carmine talking about how Pecharunt and the Lousy Three were "definitely connected."

Its a campy little side adventure, and that's fine. I would have loved to see Carmine have more interaction with the gang, and to see the gang enjoy the festival or explore more of Kitakami, but as I figured with the end of Indigo Disk, I figured they just wanted to be done with Scarlet and Violet. Kieran had a great "redemption?" arc kind of, or at least we were able to actually work together with him and get some quality time with him in his right state of mind, and honestly I'm just thrilled to know that Arven considers us his best friend to the point he gets jealous of newbies.

Oh, and now Kieran and Carmine will appear randomly in the BB Club Room- it's a bitch and a half to get them to show up, but you can speed up the process slightly by using the system calendar to go forward a day until one or both show up. Nemona, Penny, and Arven are part of the coach system now, so all you need is about 1800 BP to get them all maxed out, and you can rebattle them on command. They also have fun interactions with each other and other characters, such as Arven learning about how "Toedscruel" from other regions can swim, Penny expanding on the facility Blueberry Academy is attached to, and Nemona actually offering up some more of her own backstory.

As for Pecharunt itself- I'll admit. I'm very let down. I thought the way things were played out before that it was building up to be this mastermind behind everything, but it's just a little runt. That's fine too, in the end, I love a good little gremlin bastard child. Its ability is pretty insane, too, automatically stacking Confusion on top of Poison status you inflict on your opponent.

Perhaps there was a much, much bigger story planned out involving it, Ogerpon, and the Loyal Three, but ultimately time, like usual, was something they sacrificed to get it out the door. Perhaps this was always the plan. Who knows.

As it wasn't DLC and it was just an extension of Indigo Disk's DLC, I'll just judge it a 7/10 for what was provided. It was fun enough, got some great laughs, some fun animations, I just wish there was more to it, and I'll always be a bit bitter that it wasn't the final answers to the story I've been seeking, nor was it more than just a gag Pokemon in the end. Still, I would love more Event Pokemon in this style. No more Zarudes or Zeraoras, give me Pecharunt all day any day.
