Cinos was born on Mobius Dimension V with his brother Dark and sister Haze. When he and his siblings were 5, they were kidnapped by the evil Dr. Envious and had all sorts of heinous experiments performed on them, mostly Cinos, like forcefully bolting metal tag plates into their hands, drugging them, shocking them with powerful energy surges, and forcefully implanting Derrange crystals into their chests. (Derrange crystals are dimension V's version of the chaos emeralds, except there are tons of them, unlike the prime dimension that only has 7 and their powers are more like the Phantom Ruby.) Since Cinos got most of the abuse, he became the most messed up out of the three, and the negative energy of the Derrange crystal affected his brain and turned him evil. Cinos and his siblings then escaped when they were twelve and began a villainous career throughout the multiverse from the negative energy from the Derrange crystals, never being caught by the Zone cops. Years later, he and his siblings were hired by Dr. Eggman as henchmen to capture the freedom fighters, and after a while of working for Eggman, he betrayed him and took over the Eggman empire, But got kicked into a vat of power-draining fluid by Sonic the hedgehog in an attempt to push HIM into the vat and lost his powers and was finally arrested

Cam nearly caught his arm as he turned on the landing but he wrenched away, lunging for the second flight. Cam slipped on the bare flooring and went down hard on one knee, but not before catching Zee’s ankle and pulling him down with him. Zee cried out, banging his chin on the bottom step and trying to backpedal away as Cam wrestled his way on top of him, pinning him on his back.

He fought, trying to get a knee drawn up or room to throw an elbow. Cam’s hips ground down into his, pressing him against the hardwood like he wanted to hurt him.

He took a thick fistful of Zee’s hair and shook him, holding him in place so he’d have no choice but to look up into his unnervingly empty eyes, smell the rubbing alcohol scent of vodka on his heaving breath.

“You’re making it worse, you know that?” He ground his hips down against Zee’s suggestively. “Why are you fighting me? Fucks gotten into you?”

“Cam!” he choked. His heart was like wings in rafters, his body light and sick and dizzy even though he was pinned. “I’m serious. No. Don’t do this. We can- we can do it later, I’ll-I’ll make it good. Please. Please...”

Cam yanked his head to the side and kissed his neck, sucking hard and pinching the skin between his teeth until Zee cried out. Zee eyed Cam’s disheveled hair hanging over his forehead, his deadened gaze. Blood welled in the scratches on his face. He hadn’t even taken himself out of his pants.

“Fucking whiskey dick,” he laughed dryly, resting his head back against the wall and looking down his nose at Zee. His hands hung limply by his thighs.

Zee pulled himself towards the stairs, using them to push himself to his feet. Standing felt like he was deep underwater, a thousand pounds of pressure on every side. He took the stairs slowly, his forearm bracing against the wall to drag himself up.

“Where you goin?” Cam called after him. It was halfhearted, slurred. He hadn’t even bothered to get up.

Zee ducked into Alex’s room, turned the lock on the door and crawled in Alex’s side of the bed, heart still pounding all the way down in his fingertips.

He hoped Cam would drop it and leave him alone. He hoped Alex would come home soon, and that he would understand. That he would take his side.

He pressed his face into Alex’s pillow and tried calm his heartbeat with the faint scent of him.

Animation Night 62: early Yoshinori Kanada

Hello friends! It’s that time of the week.

This week it’s time to go a little oldschool, shine our spotlight on someone who is widely hailed as the most influential Japanese animator in the whole history of our medium: Yoshinori Kanada! (Apologies anyone who wanted a weeb break. I’ll try and give you one next week.)

Kanada was born in 1953, and rose to prominence in the 70s as one of the first animators to get an individual reputation as a distinctive ‘charisma animator’, earning him magazine interviews and inspiring fans to seek out his cuts across different productions.

(For this post I’m going to be leaning heavily on the research of Matteo Watzky, who just concluded a long series on Kanada and his successors. Big thanks to that guy!)

But he didn’t come out of nowhere. One of his major influences is the work of A Pro, one of the first major offshoots of Toei Animation back in the 1960s led by Daikichirō Kusube and Yasuo Otsuka. In contrast to Toei, who at the time tended to emphasise realism on films like Horus: Prince of the Sun, Otsuka’s style emphasised energetic comedy, doing everything they could to overcome the restrictions of limited animation with secondary action, irregular rhythms and strong poses. Matteo writes:

it’s important to note that Kanada could be considered one of their students: it’s on (partly) A Pro shows like Akado Suzunosuke (1972-1974), Dokonjô Gaeru (1972-1974) and Kôya no Shônen Isamu (1973-1974) that he did some of his first in-betweening work, and even some key animation.

but he advised me on Twitter that Kanada didn’t actually work directly at A Pro, so my bad there!

Another major influence on Kanada can be traced to late 60s gekiga anime aimed at a slightly older audience like Star of the Giants, Ashita no Joe and Tiger Mask, whose animators started experimenting with photocopying drawings directly onto cels to create a much more rough, textured look, and layouts emphasising 3D motion and complex camerawork. Both would become a hallmark of Kanada’s style, and the recognition of their distinctive creators like Shingo Araki and Keiichirō Kimura helped lay the groundwork for the role of ‘charisma animator’.

So what of Kanada himself? He started, like pretty much all animators of the time, as an inbetweener (dougaman), drawing the final lineart and inbetweens prior to colouring. Apparently he despised this work, finding it tedious and repetitive, and part of the reason for his idiosyncratic timings when he became a key animator was to spare his inbetweeners the same fate.

Kanada’s early work was considered unremarkable and even unskilled by his peers like Takuo Noda, but he very rapidly rose to prominence around 1974, marked by his animation on a half-episode of Cutie Honey in which most of his stylistic flairs were present, at least in early form.

So what is this Kanada style, or Kanada school? It’s hard to describe a graphic style in words, but if you wanted to point to a few elements associated with Kanada...

extreme poses, designed more for drama than naturalistic motion

highly varied frame timings, combined with big changes of pose to create really sharp, snappy movements

impact frames and speed lines

elaborate background animation sequences where the camera flies along tunnels or corridors

shiny surfaces with complex specular highlight shapes

bright lens flares

complex fire effects with ropes and coils of flame (especially in the signature Kanada dragon, since homaged by of animators)

Of course, these didn’t appear as a package of course, but took time to develop. Kanada was not yet the star of the industry in 74 - that took a few more years, during which time Kanada worked at Toei, and then went to their major subcontractor No. 1 along with others in the aftermath of the strike, before finally founding his own studio Z2 with Shin’ya Sadamitsu and Kazuo Tomizawa in 1977. Z2 quickly gave way to Z3, and then that too folded Kanada returned to No. 1. Somewhere in this time, he did some of his definitive work on Galaxy Express 999, defining those ‘liquid fire’ explosions and creating all kinds of characterful mecha animation.

These years are notable mostly for the rapid evolution in the ‘Kanada school’ style. By this point this was not just one animator’s idiosyncratic style, but increasingly a movement of other ambitious young animators who’d been influenced by Kanada such as Masahito Yamashita, as they animated projects like Urusei Yatsura...

By the 80s, Kanada and a number of his proteges once again formed a studio of their own in the form of Kaname Pro, and it’s here that one of Kanada’s best known works, the Birth OVA, was made. Combining some absolutely astonishing animation with a chaotic, hard to understand sci-fi story about a girl on a hovering platform in a post-apocalyptic wasteland (notably very little of the writing on Birth bothers to say what it’s about!), it was very much an animator-first project... which means, however flawed, it should be a fascinating and unique artefact.

And...  I’m out of time! Very frustrating; there are a million more things to say about Kanada’s later career and the million people he influenced since (not just in anime: he was also one of the inspirations for the superflat art movement), but the hour is upon us, so let’s get on and watch some films. Tonight our main features are going to be Birth and Galaxy Express 999, which showcase some of Kanada’s best known animation. If we end up with a surplus of time, I might yet put in some other Kanada stuff, we’ll play it a bit by ear.

Ok so I was tagged by @rabid-radstag to do the list of the 9 comfort characters I have.

Well... by definition a comfort character is someone you relate to, see similarities to yourself into, want to have some sort of a relationship with, or you're just relaxed watching them... and well I don't have any of that XD

Every character I like is mainly just a being that has intriguing or tragic story and a fucked up mental state to analyse for me :/ I'm just like that. I like analysing and questioning things. And for those reasons I look at characters I like with a dose of calculative coldness to uncover their secrets or true selfs. The only characters I relate to are my OCs really XDDDD (one in particular).

With that in mind I'll try to make a list of beings that I like, and I can write all the reasons why.

So starting chronologically:

Starscream - Transformers Prime

Is the worst thing that can happen to you. He's a fucked up guy that is the victim of the even worse and more fucked up conflict that destroyed his home planet. He's unpredictable and really funny sometimes. Watching the series I'm almost always on his side cause the rest of sides are more predictable, easier to read and just more black or white... which is more boring to me than just smol, cowardly decepticon trying his best. I just feel sad and pitty for him and for those reasons would want to hug him... mentaly cause bro I want to be as far as possible from that sharp claws XD

Cyclonus & Tailgate - Transformers MTMTE

Again very interesting observation subjects. I'd be more kin to say they are some kind of the comfort characters (if I'd remember that they exist cause I'm in different fandoms rn XD). They really remind me of the OCs we have with @reallyangryhawk Jay and Chazy (cause of the dynamic they have). But again their stories are tragic and full of pain and wathing them cope in very different ways while being very differend themselves and still together is fascinating to me.

Yes my own OC cause he was the coping mechanism for me and can count as a real comfort character on this list. Jay was my persona for some time and then he helped me much. But after that he evolved, got his own character, story, and life. I still love him to this day. I wouldn't want to meet him tho cause I'd probably be dead. And for huging he has Chazy! @reallyangryhawk OC - sweet roll that I'd stay away from cause I don't want to die XD. Love them dearly even if they are not in the center of my life anymore.

Z2-47 & X9-27 - Fallout 4

They were in the center of my attention for a long time as well. I can't tell I like them as a characters cause they both have like 5 seconds of screentime... What I love about them is the concept of coursers and giving the boys some more depth and personalities to match the stories of synths and their complexity. They are practically my OCs at this point as well as all the SRB departament and the totally different way of making and educating coursers. I love to experiment with concepts and ideas about what the courser program would be... if even Betchesta was more competent... But the boys have of course tragic story and I just cry over them cause come on... They suffer and die a lot.

Nicolò Paganini & Luigi Germi

Hahaha! My current obsession! Idk If they count as a characters as they are a fricking historical figures buf fuck it. My list, my rules XD. So why I like them. The curiosity of the resercher. If you read a biography about someone and it's filled with contradicting facts you get curious. More curious when that happenes again in another book. Then you just notice that almost every information that the reserchers have on the guy are the letters to another... always the same guy, and that, my dear tumblr dwellers, is how to uncover some historical truth and get obsessed with the people you are reserching... and make a content with them cause come on - recognition for the bois XDD. But over all I'd hug Nico very hard (also mentaly cause I wouldn't want to break into his private zone). So yeah I'm again fascinated by them, the relationship they had and the skills they possesed. But again at least Nicolò had the life so tragic I'll cry every time...

So to end this list and have some thoughts about it... Well I guess I like to feel sad and in distress cause all the characters I like are in the sytuation of being in the werge of giving up on life :3

Frathouse Boxboy - Alex finds out that Cam didn’t just cut Zee’s hair that one time

Z2, Alex and Cam belong to @deluxewhump (Frathouse Boxboy series).

Z2 sits shaking on the bed and waits. Alex told him to sit and wait, even though Z2 is staining the sheets with slimy remains of the garbage he was dumped in out there, behind the house. Cold, dirty water drips from his clothes and spreads out on the soft fabric of Alex's bed. It's fine, Z2 promises himself, he'll wash everything as soon as Alex lets him. 

He doesn't know what the other boy is doing. Alex disappeared into the bathroom earlier and there's only been the sound of running water coming from there since then. Just as he wonders again what Alex could be doing, the latter reappears in the doorway and walks to the bed.

"Are you still cold?"

Z2 would have lied no, but Alex likes when he says the truth and he's never been punished for saying it in front of him. So Z2 says: "Less than before."

Alex nods and pulls him up by the hand to guide him outside. Z2 notes that the light in the hallway makes the other boy’s blond hair shine prettily just before Alex nudges him inside the bathroom. Z2 steps in and his gaze quickly roams around the room- a habit, to assess what he needs to do and the potential danger he might have been thrust in- and his heart drops when he sees the water peacefully rippling in the tub. He stops dead in his tracks.

Alex bumps into the taller boy because of the sudden halt and the impact against his back makes Z2 cringe away from the full tub. Alex is confused at first as to why Z2′s hand jerked out of his own so brutally, and then his blue eyes widen when he sees the look of utter betrayal on Z2's face.

"Zee...?" He sounds confused. "What's wrong?"

"Please," pleads Z2. His voice comes out in a whisper, his throat is tight. Blood thrums in his ears.

He's scared, he can't believe Alex would do this to him, but Z2 knows it's stupid to feel so shocked when he's only ever been just a boxboy. He must have deserved this. He frantically tries to remember at what point he disappointed his Masters enough to warrant this punishment. Maybe Alex is mad that Z2 didn't tell him the whole truth about what happened the time Cam shaved his hair. He shouldn't have lied.

"What's going on?" Alex reaches out for him and it makes Z2 flinch away. His wet foot slides on the pristine ceramic floor of the bathroom and he barely manages to catch himself on the side of the tub.

When Z2 realizes what he's holding onto, he immediately braces his arms against it. Alex is shorter than Cameron and he's alone, so Z2 has more chances of resisting hands pressing down on his nape and shoulders, but he knows that in the end he'd have to let it happen. He'd be able to resist, but never for long. The steam coming up from the bath caresses his face and it makes his skin crawl. The sound of running water is too loud in his ears. He can already feel the water surging up his nose and throat, burning his sinuses, filling up his aching lungs. He already wants to cough and hack. Z2 is scared.

"No," Z2 chokes out. "Alex, I'm sorry for not telling you, please don't make me..."

"Not telling me what?" Alex crouches next to him but doesn't try to touch him again. "Zee, what?"

"I- I didn't tell you, I'm sorry." Z2's voice wobbles, but he tries to regain control of himself. It'll only anger his Master if he continues to blubber like a pitiful child. "I didn't tell you everything that happened because I, it was already difficult to tell you that Cam cut my hair, and I don't know, I just didn't. I know I should have. I promise, I didn't mean to lie to you. I'm sorry, Alex. I'm sorry."

"Zee." There's something sharp in Alex's voice that makes Z2's belly flip. "What did Cameron do to you?"

Alex wants an answer and he wants it now. Z2 knows he made a mistake trying to keep things from him, he knows he should just get it over with as fast as he can and tell Alex what he wants to know. Z2 knows the price for making a Master wait, and he doesn't want to suffer, but the words won't come out so easily. "I- He took me by the neck. He... He pushed on it, and- and-" He falters, and then he flinches, knowing he's going to get hit for taking so long to speak. Nothing comes. Z2's eyes cautiously crack open and he peers up at Alex. Alex doesn't look mad. He's waiting.

"He pushed me down with another boy's help," Z2 continues in a faint voice. "They held my head down. Underwater. I..." He bunches up his pants with his fists. "I thought I was going to die. I thought- I thought I was going to drown. I couldn't," his voice wavers again, "I couldn't breathe. I was scared. I'm sorry I didn't tell you, Alex, I'm sorry, I know I should have. Please don't do that to me again. I promise I'll be good, I promise I'll always tell you the truth."

Alex's expression was getting stormy but when Z2 starts apologizing and pleading again, his face falls and he quickly wraps his arms around Z2's back and pulls him close. "Hey, hey, calm down, I didn't know it would scare you like that. I'm not going to hurt you, okay? The bath was just to warm you up."

"I'm sorry," says Z2 in a small voice. Remembering what Cam did to him makes him want to cry even more. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you."

"I know, but it's fine, I promise. I'm not mad at you for that. I'm not mad at you at all." Z2 flinches when he feels a hand settle atop his short hair but relaxes when Alex says: "It's okay, Zee. It's okay."

The hand starts gently petting the back of his head and Z2 realizes that the reason Alex's voice is so soft is because he has been crying. His breath is shaky and his face is soaked. He's still shivering even though he's not cold anymore and he doesn't understand why, and he suddenly feels very tired. Z2 finally understands that he's safe, that Alex never meant him any harm. He buries his face in the warm crook of Alex's shoulder and sobs when he can't keep pretending any longer that nothing happened in the bathroom back then.

Poe couldn’t believe it. That should be him. Not you. 

He swore the rage running through him was enough to for him destroy the First Order all on his own. 

That mission was dangerous, and the likelihood of getting caught was too great, that’s why everyone toned it down when speaking to you. You were nervous enough about it as it was, the added threat wasn’t needed. But it was clear to Poe that you still should never have gone. 

He knew first hand what those people would do to get information out of Rebels, and it wasn’t nice, and it sure as hell wasn’t pretty. 

The energy in the room was tense from the moment you landed on that new ship, and chaos was a fraction from breaking out the moment you were dragged away kicking and screaming bloody murder - apparently you were no longer worried about the Troopers blasters. It took a little more than Leia raising her voice to get everyone to calm down, and it took even longer to get them to stop and listen. 

Even with Leia’s reassuring words and Rey constantly telling the room that Z2 would make sure everything would be alright, the curing in Poe’s stomach didn’t go away.

It took everything he had to stop, to listen, to not go jump in his X-Wing and blow many things up.

You were going to die here. You could just tell. You didn’t want to die. 

The time that had passed by was unknown to you. You just know enough time had passed for your body to ache like it never had before. 

You’d been pulled onto a room soon after you left Kylo, and then strapped to some upright table thing. You didn’t really care what it was called, you just knew it held your arms back at one of the most awkward and cramp-inducing angles you’d ever had the displeasure of enduring. 

At least they rid you of that horrible and tight-necked First Order jacket. 

The two Officers who brought you to Kylo had hung around, mostly just to add tension, but they did land a good few hits on you, while the Troopers stood by at the door. 

By the time the Officers were replaced for the third time, you’d gained trickles of warmth down from your temple, nose, and lip - it was blood no doubt. Even if you couldn’t see it, the taste of iron told you exactly what it was. Your insides pained, and every breath in and out hurt as if there were glass shards in your lungs. 

They didn’t hold back, you’d give them that. 

But they had barely ripped anything more than sharp intakes of breath from you, let alone information on the Resistance. 

They realized soon that they weren’t getting anywhere. If they were, they were only rendering you more useless by killing you.

That’s when they brought Kylo back.

By the time Z2 was able to find you again - because somehow the little guy lost you - Poe couldn’t decide whether to be relieved or even more angry. 

The way the droid found you was by following a very talkative Kylo Ren. They guy wouldn’t stop yelling about you - The Rebel - and how pathetic the Officers were for not getting anything out of you already. 

Poe had to admit, he was a little proud to hear you had barely said boo to whatever they’d done to you, but it soon changed back to worry when Z2 got you on camera.

You looked awful. A mess. And this time you weren’t exactly a hot mess. 

Bruises were swelling over one side of your face, old blood was drying on your features and down your neck like cracks in a clay plate, the new blood lined the old like the lights that lined the hallways of the base at night. And that was only on your face. 

Poe shuddered to think about the damage done that was hidden by your clothes. 

“The base. Where is it?” Kylo went straight to the point, stalking up to your side and standing too close. 

You stuck your nose in the air, chin high, and turned away, not saying a word as you rolled your lips together. Kylo grabbed a fistful of your hair, pulling you back to face him, and you let out a hiss.

“That’s a no-no.” you said, fruitlessly attempting to shrug him off. 

“Tell me where it is!” You clenched your jaw, breathing in deeply, staying firm to your resolve to not tell. You were loyal. If that’s why you’d die here then so be it. 

“Beat me all you want,” you said, “But unlike you I know what family means. I’m never telling you where they are.” 

Poe was feeling an awful lot of disbelief lately, but this wasn’t quite like before. He knew you were strong, loyal, but he didn’t quite realize the sharpness of your tongue, and the protectiveness you had over your fellow Rebels. 

Kylo stepped back, looking at you with as much disgust as someone with a mask-covered face could, and raised his hand.

From across the room, Poe saw Rey stiffen. Kylo was going to use the Force on you, and both him and Rey knew that you’d have no choice over giving up where they were hidden. 

You could feel something enter your mind, oozing through your life and memories like tar, and sending a searing pain straight to your temples. You couldn’t stop it. As much as you wished and willed it to stop it wouldn’t. 

You promised yourself you wouldn’t break, you wouldn’t tell. If you didn’t say anything, or said something, it wouldn’t matter. But you were not going to let Kylo keep rummaging in your brain. 

“Please, enough!” you yelled, “I’ll tell you!” 

The pain stopped, and the pressure released, but didn’t go away. It lingered.

Poe felt his heart drop, dread setting in again. You had no choice, but surely you couldn’t change your mind that quickly? Rey and Leia didn’t look incredibly worried, and looking over at your friend Joon, he looked more concerned about your well-being than his or anyone else's.

The room was eerily silent, as if the universe was holding its breath, like a cord ready to snap under the pressure and release, pushing them all into a frenzy to evacuare the planet. 

“They’re,” you started, catching your breath, “They’re on Tatooine. In the desert. Hidden under a cloaking beacon where no-one can find them.” 

Kylo’s hand fell to his side, and his head tilted back. Then he abruptly turned, starting to leave. The Officer to his left stepped forward.

“What do we do with her?” Kylo paused.

“Use your imagination.” Kylo said, then turned to Z2. “And get rid of that Droid.”

You were terrified. 

They were going to kill you, you were a hundred percent sure of it. What else would they do with you? You just hoped they did so before they reached Tatooine, before they found out you lied straight to Kylo Ren’s face. 

The two Officers split, one going with Kylo, and the other stayed behind. To ‘deal’ with you, no doubt. The Officer measured for the one of the two Troopers to step forward, to raise their blaster. 

The Trooper behind the Officer wasn’t supposed to do that too, right? 

The Officer gave the order to fire, and you flinched, bracing yourself for death. You guessed death didn’t hurt too much, or instead, with the opening of your eyes, you found you didn’t die at all. The Officer lay on the ground, and the Trooper by the door’s blaster was smoking. The one closest you to move, releasing your restraints as if they’d wanted to do it since you first got there. 

“Who’re you guys?” you asked.

The one at the door came forward, pulling their helmet off, and the one at your side, having released you, did also. 

“We’re people who don’t want to be here.”

MediaTek Helio X20 (MT6797) provides three processor clusters, each designed to more efficiently handle different types of workloads. Much like adding gears to vehicles, dividing the cores into three clusters provides a more efficient allocation of tasks for optimum performance and extended battery life. It can delegate simple tasks to one cluster of cores, while directing more complex (and more power-hungry) tasks to the other clusters For example, if the smartphone is doing only simple tasks, such as sending text messages or running the calculator on one cluster, the other clusters can power down ready for when required, therefore, driving both smoother, responsive performance and an extended battery life. 

The MediaTek Helio X20 is capable of supporting smartphones with dual-cameras and includes color and mono sensor support. This multiple-sensor design can capture three times the light of a traditional single-bayer sensor, thus reducing image noise and increasing quality. It features a built-in 3D depth engine for depth of field processing, as well as multi-scale de-noise engines, for faster response time between shots and unprecedented detail, color, and sharpness, even under extreme conditions.

MediaTek's The display can be refreshed at up to 120 fps for crisp and responsive scrolling of web content and maps, and with an ARM Mali-T880 MP4 GPU up to 780MHz, it yields uncompromised performance in games with high-resolution graphics.

Meanwhile, an integrated sensor hub featuring an embedded ARM Cortex-M4 processor operates on an isolated, low-power domain to support diverse always-on applications, such as MP3 playback and voice activated apps.

 MT6300 Envelope Tracking Module

The MT6300 is an Envelope Tracking Module (ETM), that complements MediaTek’s CAT-6 modem. The package monitors the voltage supplied to the RF power amplifier in real-time, and uses continual, fine-grained voltage adjustments to optimize the power amplifier’s efficiency.
