Greg Weisman joins us to discuss romance in the City of Lights as Demona seduces Macbeth while hooking up with Goliath’s clone. We talk about the return of Thailog. Elisa’s heroism while Goliath fails at being any kind of parent to both Angela and Thailog. We also discuss one of the series’ most infamous animation errors as we discuss Cary Bates’ brilliant script. Greg Weisman also shares a tidbit about a visit from the Feature Film Division when the series was still in production. This is a good one!
And we continue our march towards the 30th Anniversary Gargoyles event at CONvergence in Minneapolis during the Fourth of July weekend! On that note, please join us on July 5th, 2pm CST at CONvergence in the Nicollet Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency for the live “Voices from the Eyrie” event where we’ll be joined by Greg Weisman (Series Creator), Thom Adcox (Voice of Lexington), Brigitte Bako (Voice of Angela), and Zehra Fazal (Voice of Shari).
Available on Apple Podcasts, Amazon Audible, Spotify, and your podcatcher of choice! And join us on Patreon for the Exclusive Video Edition!

Still waiting for my Gargoyles Quest issue 4, was hoping I would get my physical copy by now, looks like it's been delayed.
I realised I hadn't done my thoughts on the issue 2 and 3 yet so here some quick thoughts.
Issue 2 Quo Vadis Cum Hoc?
Goliath agrees this deal with Vinnie but does Goliath know who his boss is.
Angela hugging Turquesa is cute.
Prospero makes his first appearance. Caliban and Ariel are mentioned but are at the Gathering on Avalon. Monsieur Le Maire appears for the 2nd time, his first appearance was in Bad Guys,
I guess Shari is a double agent.
Broadway gives the Mayan Sun Amulet back to Jade and Turquesa.
Thailog and Brentwood steal the Hand of Valmont from Prospero. At first I thought this was one of the new keys to power.
Exo- Frames attack the Gargoyles but its all a distraction so Demona can get something from Owen or Puck.
Issue 3 Acquisitions
Lex wants to find out who's controlling the Exo frames but Coldstone completely destroys them but obviously he's done it deliberately so they can't be be tracked.
Turquesa sees Demona fly off and recognises her from Argentina, so that's why Avalon sent them to New York.
Owen tells Goliath that Demona has stolen Puck's flute, which he admitted stole it back from Oberon. He also says that he was the Pied Piper.
Coldstone tells Demona that Angela wants to find her and tell her about her commitment ceremony to Broadway.
Thailog and Shari deliver the Hand of Valmont to the illuminati at Eastcheap, so we see the return of Falstaff.
Was surprised to find that Wyvern the Dragon is an Illuminati member!!!!!! and is number 3 When did that happen????? Also back in Bad Guys comics the Redemption Squad could of seen him.
Lol at the Dragon telling Thailog he smells differently, obviously it's because he's a clone.
So the Hand of Valmont is used to get the 2nd part of the Lance stick and Thailog has to do it so the Dragon doesn't suspect it's been stolen.
Now Demona has 2 Keys of Power,
Cut to September and Elisa's suspension is lifted and back on the force. Love that they are still meeting at the Clocktower.
The next page happens over a few weeks starting from October 16th, Katana and Coldfire together possibly looking for Demona. October 31st which is the Halloween Special. November 11th Brooklyn, Broadway and Lex together at near Nightstone.
Then November 17th, with a beautiful shot of Angela in front of the moon. Even though Angela doesn't have any dialogue in this issue she certainly didn't need it as you could tell what's bothering her. She wants reconciliation with her Mother and attend her commitment ceremony but Demona's latest Quest for domination is not helping things.
The next page is November 18th and Antoinette is at an auction in Geneva getting Cleopatra's necklace, which is the 3rd key to power.

As someone who has joined the "Gargoyles" fandom in recent times, what is your opinion about the third season of the cartoon?
Oh you mean the 12 stories that were published as Gargoyles: Clan-Building Vol. 1 and 2?
The stories that featured the introduction of the Quarrymen and the mysterious Shari, the return of Thailog who collected blood of each Manhattan Clan member for Sevarius, the dramatic development of Goliah and Elisa’s relationship which ended in a joyous kiss, the adventures of Hudson, Lexington, Macbeth, and King Arthur in London where they met more members of the London Clan, and some of Brooklyn’s Time Dancer travels from which he returned with a mate, two kids, and a beast?
That third season was fantastic! We got more villians, new characters, intriguing background stories, two Scottish kings teaming up, subtle hints towards Lexington’s sexuality, and Elisa and Goliath kissing!!! The comic books were wonderful and if you have the chance to buy them, DO IT!
However, if you mean whatever the fuck The Goliath Chronicles was, those episodes were utter bullshit. Only episode 1 is canon and a moment between Hudson and Robbins in ep.6 was lovely enough that it made its way into the canon comic books.
I’ll admit ep.12 is a guilty pleasure of mine because it has Goliath/Elisa scenes, including a tight hug and Goliath touching Elisa’s hair.
The rest you can throw into the trash where it belongs; badly written boring plots, awfully drawn animation, and everyone is grossly out of character. Don’t waste your time with those episodes.

Smutember Day 6 (Which is, in Essence, Day 5 - Part 2, but Whatever)
We’re going to covering the second half (part 1 of this is over Here) of the Smut Peddler Presents: My Monster Boyfriend anthology here and...
You know what? Fuck it! Shitty phone pictures, here we come!
(This is a page from Nebula back in the first part of this mini-review)
Getting back into it and, apologies in advanced if it seems like I’m speeding through this second half... In some areas I am, some areas are suffering from my brain being fried.
Sortuefinde 12, 213-7 (C. Spike Trotman, E.K. Weaver)
This one is... weird. A woman is told that her SO was murdered in the line of duty, so she asks her great-aunt to help her with a ritual so she can avenge him. And then she meets with her SO’s spirit and they have weird, wibbly ghost sex (I’m just kidding, it’s actually sort of sweet), and that’s mostly how it ends. Y-yay..?
Honestly, the art catches my mind more than the story itself.
Thirsty Work (Jess Fink)
Guy renting a cabin on a snowy mountain ends up accidentally taking in an incubus (faun? incubus?) who is going through a bit of a rough time due to lack of feedings. Hijinks ensue.
This one is actually nice, simple art style and all.
Whitehill House (Shari Hes)
I like this one, I really do: the story of a distanced son coming back to his grandparents’ estate after one of their funerals, who discovers that there’s a family-guardian gargoyle on the grounds.
Interesting premise. Good premise... God, are some of the faces weird here! It’s like motion-blur but without the motion part.
Still, it’s always nice to see someone performing fellatio on a tail.
Spoilsport (Gail Simone, Trudy Cooper)
This is the funniest story in the entire anthology, bar none. Of course, when it’s worked on by the mind behind Oglaf, of course you’re going to get some weirdly kink-filled laughs.
But, seriously, I like how this story handles the ‘Dick Predator’ trope and plays around with it to show an account of ‘prey-becoming-the-true-predator’. Definitely one to look into.
Even if you do end up feeling sorry for the vampire.
A Winged Man Flew into the Shed (Noora Heikkila)
The final story in the anthology has the most rustic feel. Like a Gothic story of horror and suspense.
A small family, particularly one of the daughters, finds things getting a bit suspicious when a dark, winged figure crashes into their shed.
It’s more on the slow side and, honestly, I could see this being made into a movie. Maybe directed by the guy who did Hereditary and Midsommar.
Worth a read, definitely.
And that’s it for My Monster Boyfriend! A varied collection, enjoyment-wise, but definitely deserves applause for giving a venue for everyone involved to show their stuff.
Thanks for reading along and have a beautiful night!

Religious Studies 101: A Handful of Thorns (2009)
"Religious Studies 101: A Handful of Thorns" was a Radio Play produced for the thirteenth and final Gathering of the Gargoyles in Los Angeles, California. It was performed on August 22nd, 2009.
This story took place after "Phoenix" and "Final Curtain". It is a non-canonical crossover between Gargoyles and The Spectacular Spider-Man. Two sequels, "Recruits" and "The Cosmos" were performed at CONvergence, 2014 and CONvergence, 2016.
Greg Weisman serialized the script at Ask Greg, from September 9 to September 14, 2009.
Plot Demona, in her Dominique Destine guise, approaches Dr. Ashley Kafka, Director of the Ravencroft Institute, for permission to excavate below the Institute's foundations. She chooses for the excavation team Dominic Dracon (an inmate there since the events of "The Silver Falcon", still broken over the shock of discovering how futile his long quest for Mace Malone's stolen gems had been), alongside four former adversaries of Spider-Man (Otto Octavius aka Doctor Octopus, Maxwell Dillon aka Electro, Eddie Brock - once Venom, and John Jameson - once Colonel Jupiter) and Cletus Kasady.
Demona has learned that Vertros Ravencroft, founder of the Institute, had collected many strange objects and buried them beneath the Institute's foundations; among these is the head of the Spear of Destiny. After her diggers uncover it, Electro blasts his way out of the Institute to freedom, taking Octavius with them and escaping with the aid of the Vulture. The sun sets, Demona shifts back into her gargoyle form, and forces her own way out with the remaining inmates, promising them the power that they desire in return for their services.
Word of the break-out quickly spreads, reaching both the police and the Daily Bugle. Joe Robertson phones up Peter Parker to alert him, while he's web-slinging around New York as Spider-Man; almost immediately after receiving the phone call, Spidey sees Zafiro and Obsidiana fighting two men in a van, jumps to the conclusion that they're monsters, and goes to the aid of the men in the van (unaware that they're smugglers working for Demona). His interference allows the smugglers to get away, delivering their goods - the spear-shaft of the Spear of Destiny - to Demona. Demona joins the spear-head and spear-shaft together, re-activating the Spear's powers, and using them to transform John Jameson back into Colonel Jupiter and Eddie Brock back into Venom, as well as turning Cletus into Carnage. But she wants more power than just the Spear; she also wants "the Kingdom and the Glory".
Elsewhere in New York, the Green Goblin, newly returned, attacks Tombstone, but Goliath intervenes. Spider-Man, close by, hears the sound of the battle, goes to investigate, and mistakenly believes that Goliath is one of the Green Goblin's creatures. The fight between them comes to a premature end when the sun rises and Goliath turns to stone. When Spider-Man turns his attention to the Goblin, the Goblin throws one of his pumpkin bombs at the stone Goliath, escaping while Spidey webs the bomb away.
Demona approaches Tombstone in her Dominique Destine alias, offering him the services of her new henchmen, and Dominic Dracon as a front man for his operations, in return for the Tinkerer's services; she wants him to provide her with Mysterio's Homunculi.
That night, Goliath's clan learn from Zafiro and Obsidiana about Demona's smuggling activities, and from Elisa about Demona's break-out at Ravencroft. Matt alerts Elisa that the OsCorp vault is about to be attacked - not only are Demona and her followers preparing to assault it, but so are many of Spidey's other old adversaries (the Green Goblin, Kraven the Hunter, Dr. Octopus, Electro, and the Vulture among them). The gargoyles glide off to help the police in the coming battle. Spider-Man also learns of the fight and goes off to help deal with the super-villains.
As a complicated battle rages at OsCorp, Demona sends the Homunculi to retrieve the treasure she seeks: the Crown of Thorns. When she dons it, combining it with the Spear of Destiny and reciting a dark parody of the Lord's Prayer, she unleashes the two artifacts' combined power: control of all humans within the area of their effect, which is gradually expanding. The humans within range - including Spider-Man, Doctor Octopus, and Electro - kneel to her, as do even Zafiro and Obsidiana, because their pendants were made by a human wizard.
But Goliath is unaffected, and struggles to seize the artifacts from her, especially after Demona gloats over how she will use this power to make Elisa commit suicide, once the magic reaches and overcomes her. The battle between them weakens Demona's hold on the Crown and the Spear (aided by her having a touch of humanity in her, thanks to Puck's spell), enough for Spider-Man to recover and web the Crown away. Both the Crown and the Spear disappear in a flash of light; Goliath and Spidey believe that they have been destroyed. The humans nearby recover from Demona's spell, and both the gargoyles and Spidey leave, after Spidey webs up Demona, Doctor Octopus, and Electro.
The Spear and the Crown were not destroyed, however; Shari and Thailog, on the Illuminati's behalf, had Brentwood gain control enough of one of the Homunculi to have it steal both artifacts in the magical explosion, which will be delivered to Duval. Goliath and Spider-Man have become allies, while Dominique Destine is now a patient at Ravencroft - at least until the sun sets....

About the Authors
Becca Vry
A Chicago native who prefers highrise living and hasn't owned or driven a car in over twenty years, Vry is a married, stay-at-home mother of two daughters. When not doing the mom thing, she can be found at Art Galleries, poetry readings, creating something on a canvas or through her keyboard, bounding in the mosh pit at a concert with her beloved husband Maximilian, or on the dance floor of her favorite Chicago Goth/Industrial haunts. No matter the setting, she is usually wearing black and her sidewalk-stomping Doc Martens.
Vry is now branching out into original prose with her first release, Hopescapes. It's an inspirational short story that will appear in Musings: An Argyle Empire Anthology. The story is about the evolution of lifescapes and how the promise of new beginnings inspire many dreamscapes. The theme of this story centers on emerging from the embers of profound loss and hopelessness, to realizing the importance of survival, ongoingness, and the power that comes from re-learning the language of happiness...Two strangers discover that the journey to happiness often comes at a tragic price – the conversation between them, and the connections they realize they share, will alter their perspectives in the most unexpected ways. They will never look at the Chicago skyline, or the broadening hopescapes that expand before them, in the same way ever again.
Vry hopes to release a couple of steamy romances in the near future...if her muse cooperates.

Reader, writer, editor. Marketer by day. Politically opinionated. Not fully dressed without a scarf.
So many books, so little time. And so many favorites: The Blind Assassin, Jane Eyre, The Poisonwood Bible, The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, The Goldfinch, The Gargoyle, The Dead, the vastly underappreciated Forsyte Saga, almost everything by Dickens.
Outlander and Twific, Shakespeare and Tolkien. IKR?
Yes, I’ve read Ulysses. Yes, I liked the Dublin Murder Squad series better. (And I never did read Finnegan’s Wake—sorry, Professor Boyle).

Shari Ivey
A graduate of Valparaiso University, I have dabbled in creative writing on and off since middle school days (first place in that 8th-grade creative writing contest!). My novella, Stranger in a Stranger Land, in Musings: An Argyle Empire Anthology, is my first published work.
When not working or writing, I am an avid music fan, concert goer, television binger and movie watcher. I am divorced with five children - two furry, three not. I am also probably the person in the car next to you, singing like a mad woman or cursing like a sailor.
My genre tends toward fantasy, paranormal and supernatural.

Do you have any top favourite scenes from the show/comics?
First, anon, thank you for your patience while I thought long and in-depth about this. I love the show so much, it's easy for me to come up with 30 different examples of moments I love but that's not very exclusive ^^;
Some of my top scenes, in my rewatch of season 1 I'm undergoing at the moment, have been the little character-building moments between the Manhattan clan. For all of it's behind-the-scenes production struggles, "Enter Macbeth" has some very nice character interplay between Lexington, Brooklyn, and Goliath. "Sorry I was too busy WRITHING in AGONY to notice," and *DISTANT ROARING* "Looks like Bronx found Goliath," come to mind as moments that make me smile.
Another of my top favorite moments, (putting aside all OwenPuck scenes because otherwise this answer would be all about him, lmao) is the scene where Coyote and Dingo break The Pack out of jail. Fox reading Jean-Paul Sartre. "Nietzsche's too butch and Kafka reminds me of your little friends over there." The excellent sequence where Dingo breaks into the building with his powersuit and unleashes high-key horror imagery on the prison guard. It all fits so neatly together, and is such a well-paced scene it feels so luxurious in what it gives you. It's a top-tier scene for a season opener.
I've talked previously about "Kingdom," and what a great episode it is - I think what it really comes down to for me for "favorites" is how lived-in an episode feels. There's a lot of great character work in Gargoyles, which is one of the reasons people keep going back, in that it feels like a tangible world. When Matt comes back home to his tiny little apartment and loosens his tie and then gets startled by Broadway waiting for him. They way the clan collects Cagney to take care of back at the clock tower once it's apparent Elisa isn't coming back (an small but important detail not to forget, from a writing perspective - she's got a cat!) The dramatic but relatively domestic drama of the mutates in the Labryinth (oh no, someone in your underground collective is a major asshole!) Owen also sitting at David's desk with his jacket off and his tie loose. The little details like this make the show feel less like a cartoon where someone opens their closet and has ten of the same outfit as a gag, but like a world that belongs to the characters who live in it. If that makes sense?
Truly, the list does go on, but I'm going to transition to the comics now :)
I need to read the SLG run again; I've read it multiple times, but sometimes the more disparate quality of it's narrative and artistic elements distract me from forming a coherent opinion. But I adore the following moments:
Owen and Delilah bring Free Will to the Table
This is an interesting little interplay that frustrates me on the whole because I'm not entirely sure the Goliath / Thailog part of it is earned, but it does develop Delilah's sense of personhood in the narrative and also gives us a window into Puck's code-of-ethics-as-Owen. Goliath makes a mistake (girlfriends can be won like a prize) but Owen says essentially "Aren't you going to ask her what she wants? Doesn't she have free will?" which is a fascinating conk-on-the-noggin for the faerie-stuck-as-a-mortal-and-is-your-part-time-nemesis to deliver to the protagonist of your story.
And it does deliver in that Delilah says, "Fuck all this" (i wish she literally said that) and ends the party without being hitched to either Goliath or Thailog. She itches something in me because she's claiming some agency. She didn't ask to be here (who does, tbr) and was created from the DNA of two very complicated, very different women (who were unwilling donors to top it off) for the purposes of satisfying Thailog's desire for a romatic partner. NOT OKAY! What does Delilah want? For so much of her existence, what she's wanted has been a foregone conclusion (in that, it doesn't matter) and any move she makes in the narrative on her own agenda is one more step towards actualizating her sense of self. That being said - I would like more Delilah.
Shari = Shaharazade
Shari is such an interesting, stand-out character to me, and I wish she'd been around in the show because I'd love to see her animated. She's mystery wrapped in mystery - her motives are so opaque! She's a high-ranking Illuminati member who has presumably been alive for thousands of years - and she's helping Thailog for some inscrutible reason. I get really excited when she shows up. I'm also interested to see how Thailog and Shari pose as narrative foils to Xanatos and Co in the future, given their parallel but opposing structure.
Mary, Finella, and Brooklyn's timedance adventure begins
I think the last two issues of the SLG run were the strongest, and the content in them literally made me shriek when I read it. For one, you've got delicious interplay between Brooklyn's existence in the narrative. He's from the past in the future in the past in the present. Mary and Finella's relationship is great (and for the part of me that reads with shipping goggles - gay, please? they can bond over missing their kids and then kiss about it....a fine lady and her handmaiden, nothing to look at here boss, no sir!) Truly I want more Mary, Finella, and Brooklyn adventures. I think the beginning of their story was the best thing to come out of the 2006 comics run. Also, "You named the horse Magus?" "Something about his face...." (Magus confirmed horsey face🐴✨ ✊😔)
As for the new runs, I'm soaking it all in. I'm very excited for Quest - I don't have a "Top Favorite" scene from it yet, though I very much enjoy the fact we're getting a fleshed out picture of the NYC world of organized crime as it exists in Gargoyles. I like that they're all scared shitless of Uncle Dracon and I want him to show up more, he's been a very interesting player in the plot. I also really like the sequence where Renard says his goodbyes to his friends and family, even if it does implode ~10k words of unpublished fic I have on my Google Drive. But that's what the canon non-compliant tag on AO3 is for 👍! This is the short way to say I think Titania should be scarier. Like, shit-your-pants scary. I love women.
I love them so much, I married one! *ba-dum**tiss* 🥁🎶

My Thoughts on the last 3 issues of Gargoyles: Dark Ages
I'm a bit behind so I'm just going to do the last 3 issues together, sorry if it's a bit messy and if i've missed some things out.
Spoilers
The Gargoyles and Humans are helping each other build the castle, Brother Valdez who is the King's architect is helping them build it.
The Dragon was pretty cool and It looks like we will see it again in the Gargoyles Quest story. I assume it was still in the caves during the episode Shadows from the Past.
The Dragon doesn't like human and doesn't want them building there home here. It was a pretty cool fight. The Archmage uses a spell on the Dragon, the same one he used on Hudson that gave him a scar.
Alesand becomes best friends with the young Gargoyles and gives them names, Caesar, Alexander, Charlemagne, and Antiope
The Trio and Antiope were pretty cute and still causing trouble. Antiope was pretty knowledgeable, she knew about the Ghost Cage (from Shadows from the Past) and knew about the Dragon and what it could do to Alesand.
I do like Alesand and Antiope but I really shouldn't get too attached as they are no longer around now.
For the first time we see a young Mary, possibly Magus and Nicolas. Did notice young Magus was spying on the Archmage and Angel.
Angel started her lesson with Archmage but first she had to learn how to read. She also went to where the get a flute, while the Dragon was away. I assume this could be Puck's flute and I wonder what's happened to it and if Demona has got it.
Desdemona started her lessons in becoming a warrior-priestess, Sacrifice is teaching her.
We got to see the Illuminati, Peredur fab Ragnal, Fleur and Shari who were calling themselves The Lightbringers.
While the Dragon was occupied, Peredur and Fleur grabbed Excalibur and went back to Carbonek (using a spell) and Brother Valdez went after them. They had to leave Shari behind and so had to find her own way back. Funny enough that Excalibur ends up in a stone Dragon in the episode Pendragon.
The story ends with Shari telling everyone a story.
