Peace didn't used to be so important to me. When I was young, drama was exciting. It didn't bother me much. A quiet room was boring. Soft sounds were never heard and gentle responses were never possible. Now, my mind delights in a quiet room. Kind of like this morning. I can hear the wind chimes tinkling outside, the sounds of my family still sleeping, even the gentle snoring of the cat next to me. We can find things to complain about daily. There's always something that can and will go wrong. We may even be our own self-fulfilling prophecy in that we make strife simply because we expect it. I know I do that. And when the circumstances are bleak and I can't see how this could ever get any better, if he'll ever come around, how I'll ever make ends meet, how I'll ever finish this degree, how I'll ever lose this weight, when she'll ever learn, if they'll ever really appreciate me, etc.... Each day that I open my eyes is a gift from God (I didn't use to feel that way) but today... today was special. My Father visited today. No, not my earthly father. He's gone on ahead of me. My Heavenly Father came down for a while. It was a sweet visit. See, he knew I had been needing a moment with him. And although I know he has so much to do he always comes when I call. It's amazing how just a few moments with my Father can make everything seem fine. He tells me not to worry and I just know that he'll take care of it. And some days that's all I can do, just visit, talk, share my burdens... and he listens. There's never anything I say that makes him love me any less and there's never anything that he can't figure out. It was a good day today, visiting with the Father. On the Sabbath, God rested, not because he needed to but because his work was done. My work is rarely ever done. But I still like to take a few moments to create. Whether I draw, write, make jewelry or something else, taking that time to reflect gives my hands something to do while I pray and talk to God. Sometimes something beautiful is revealed, others not so much. Isn't that just how God works though? He doesn't expect perfection, only submission and EFFORT. Father, let me learn to see past the imperfections and just appreciate the effort! Loving one another is hard sometimes, isn't it? There's always that one that gets under your skin. And in some careers, loving your fellow man can be especially challenging! But what if God felt like I do? Does he begrudge his love for anyone? Thankfully, salvation and God's grace is a free gift, available to everyone because of the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ! We all struggle sometimes. But maybe the next time we struggle, we can remember that every person has value and we should try our best to find that. So many people face tragedy on a daily basis. We throw out the common platitudes and tell them we're praying for them. I've often wondered if people ACTUALLY pray as much as they say they do. Lately, I've come to see it a different way though... I welcome the prayers of others but I am secure in the knowledge that no matter what tomorrow brings, God's got it.
