Jacob GravesJust as long as you don't start listening to Levitt because he's super dreamy. You don't have that problem for obvious reasons, but it seems like everyone in the comments of that video do even tho they probably shouldn't be having it. Reading those the only reaction I have lacks a word for it.There's some real gems on this thing: “Be interested, not interesting.”Great strategy. You can die interested.

According to an article published by the WLKY Digital Team, authorities said that a Florida man was pulled over Friday while transporting a box truck to Indianapolis that was heavily loaded with thousands of pounds of unrefrigerated food and untaxed alcoholic beverages. This happened last week when a motorist notified authorities of a Penske box truck traveling north on Interstate 65 near the 50-mile marker, according to Indiana State Police. The motorist told officials that the box truck had a blown tire and was continuing on the interstate, throwing debris into the path of other motorists. State police said the truck was also leaning to one side, and the driver was having trouble keeping the vehicle under control. The Jackson County Health Department was then notified of the box truck, and they inspected the box truck. They determined that the vehicle weighed approximately 15,000 pounds more than is allowed by law. Health department officials said they had to destroy 200 pounds of fish and 400 pounds of vegetables because they were not properly refrigerated. Meanwhile, a search warrant helped state police confiscate the untaxed alcoholic beverages on the truck, about 400 cases of beer. The driver was cited for transporting perishable foods in excess of acceptable temperatures and not having a required logbook. There were also several other motor carrier violations. “Bayan” sözcüğü bir ucubedir. Sürücüye arkadan birilerinin ücretinin iletildiği dolmuşların, belediyelerin palazlandırdığı özel halk otobüslerinin, dolayısıyla ıkış tıkışlığın, yan yanalığın, ancak aynı zamanda fersah fersah ayrılmış bir mekânın, ikiyüzlü bir ahlakın ürettiği bir Frankenştayn’dır “bayan”, yeni ortaçağın gelinidir.

Bir de bu ayrılmış mekânın dayattığı “bayan yanı” gudubeti var! Kadın yanı değil! Çünkü “bayan” iğdiş edilmiş, eşeyden arıtılmış, çarpıtılmış, pastörize edilmiş, helalleştirilmiş bir şeydir. (Kutsanmıştır da: dikkatle bakarsanız bir yerine iliştirilmiş ve kurbanlığı simgeleyen kırmızı bir kurdele bile görebilirsiniz.) Ölü bir şeydir. Yanında güvenle oturabileceğiniz bir şeydir. Kadın ise tehlikeli bir şeydir. Dişidir. Doğurgandır. Tekin olmayan bir şeydir, maazallah.

“Bayan” günümüzde çözülen, yeniden kurgulanan ve farklı dinamiklere evrilen toplumsal yapının bir ürünüdür. Sulandırılmış, tatlı su dindarlığı ve –daha çok– lümpenlik kokan bir kavramdır. Bir kadına teyze, hanımefendi demenin yerini almış ve çok işlevsel ve etkili bir hale bürünmüş bir sözcüktür. Yaygınlaştığı ve ne yazık ki cahilce (bu sıfatı bir aşağılama olarak kullanmıyorum: dille ilgili nerdeyse bütün alışkıları sorgulamadan ediniriz çünkü) kabul gördüğü için birçok kadın kendisine “Bayan!” diye seslendiğinizde ruhunun okşandığını, bir Afrodit gibi yüksekçe kaide üzerine yerleştirildiğini düşünebilir.

Kadınlardan oluşan takımları dile getirmek için nedense bayan sözcüğü yeğlenir. Kadın voleybol takımı değil, bayan voleybol takımı denir nedense. Oysa bay futbol takımımız yoktur, erkek voleybol takımı vardır. Kimse bir erkeğe “Bay” diye hitap etmez (Sokaktaki birine “Bayım,” diye başlayan bir konuşmaya başlasanız size ne gözle bakarlar? a) Türkçe dublajlı fazlaca film izlemiş b) Türkçeyi TÖMER’de öğrenmiş bir yabancı herhalde. c) Merihli. d) “Sen necisin, hacı?!”

Allahtan siyasi partilerin Bayan Kolları, hastanererin Bayan Doğum Uzmanı, kabinemizin Bayandan Sorumlu Bakanı yok. Ama birileri uydurursa hiç şaşırmamak lazım!

Tabii bir de hanım sözcüğü var. Hanım hanım oturmak, hanım hanımcık olmak, hanım hanımcık konuşmak. Sonracığıma, ödüllü başkentimizin değişik semtlerinde peyda olan Hanımlar Lokalleri var. Ne yapılır oralarda? Oradaki kadınlar ne yaparlar?

Benim aklıma çok evcil ve Viktoryen imajlar sökün ediyor ama bilemiyorum.

Bayan sözcüğünü hakaret telakki etmek lazım gelir.

A truck driver has been awarded an $8 million settlement after becoming paralyzed following an incident with an Iowa Department of Transportation snow plow.  64-year-old Terry Bunting was pulled over on the shoulder of Highway 67, clearing the windshield of his tractor-trailer, when an approaching Iowa DOT snow plow driver pulled the wrong lever and failed to retract the snow plow blade. The plow blade then smashed into Bunting, who was seriously injured as a result.  Bunting was left with spinal and kidney injuries, blood loss, and a fractured pelvis and ribs. Bunting is now partially paralyzed and must use a wheelchair. He has already collected more than $1.25 million in medical bills and expects those medical costs to continue throughout his life. Experts estimate that Bunting could rack up more than $7 million in medical bills. A three-person state appeal board approved an $8 million payout to Bunting.
