Thalapathy Vijay's Tribute to Captain Vijayakanth

On December 28, Tamil cinema and politics mourned the loss of Captain Vijayakanth, also known as Puratchi Kalaignar, who passed away at a private hospital in Chennai. As a mark of respect, his mortal remains are placed at the DMDK office in Chennai, where fans and the public can pay their homage.

The night of December 28 witnessed a poignant moment as Thalapathy Vijay, one of Tamil cinema's leading actors, visited the DMDK office to pay his last respects to Vijayakanth. The emotional encounter saw Vijay express his condolences to Vijayakanth's wife, Premalatha, and his two sons, Vijaya Prabhakaran and Shanmuga Pandian. This visit holds special significance, considering Vijayakanth played a pivotal role in Vijay's early career, co-starring with him in his second film and contributing to his success.

Vijayakanth's impact extended beyond the film industry, with prominent figures like Kamal Haasan, Jr NTR, and numerous actors and politicians expressing their condolences on social media.

The connection between Vijayakanth and Thalapathy Vijay goes beyond mere condolences. Vijayakanth, collaborating frequently with director SA Chandrashekar, played a crucial role in salvaging Vijay's career during its initial stages. When Vijay faced a setback with his debut film, 'Naalaya Theerpu,' SA Chandrasekhar sought Vijayakanth's collaboration in 'Sendhoorapandi,' a decision that proved instrumental in rejuvenating Vijay's career.

As a mark of respect, Vijayakanth's mortal remains are placed at the Island Grounds for public homage from 6 am to 1 pm. The final rites are scheduled to take place at the DMDK office at 4.45 pm, marking the end of an era in Tamil cinema and politics.

This heartfelt tribute and final farewell underscore the enduring impact Captain Vijayakanth had on the Tamil film industry and the lives of those who crossed paths with him, leaving behind a legacy of cinematic brilliance and political influence.

Surrogacy is exploitation of either women or babies or both

The South Division police have arrested an advocate who was reportedly acting as a mediator between IVF centres and the gang selling new born babies in connection with the fake surrogacy racket.

BENGALURU: The South Division police have arrested an advocate who was reportedly acting as a mediator between IVF centres and the gang selling new born babies in connection with the fake surrogacy racket. The case was registered in April, last year and the police have already arrested five accused and have rescued over 11 children. The kingpin of the racket Rathna had succumbed to Covid-19. The role of the advocate was to prepare agreements at IVF centres to those willing to get kids through surrogacy. With the arrest of the advocate, the total number of arrests has gone up to seven and the police have rescued 16 children. All the children have been handed over to their biological parents through the Child Welfare Committee.

The accused advocate KP Banumathi, 41 is a resident of Karnataka Layout in Kurubarahalli. He had filed a bail petition after the arrests of five accused but was denied bail. The other arrested accused are Devi Shanmuga, Ranjana Devi Prasad, Mahesh Kumar, Janardhan and Dhanalakshmi. The accused were selling children to childless couple claiming that they are born of surrogate mothers. The gang was charging Rs 2 to 3 lakhs per child. The gang used to visit hospitals and offered money to poor parents to sell their newborn babies.

“The advocate was convincing the childless couple that everything was legal. The childless couple were unaware of the plot. The police so far have got evidence in one case and suspect her role in many cases,” Harish Pandey, DCP (South) told TNIE. The five accused were granted jail after almost nine months. The police suspect 28 children have been sold, of which 16 have been rescued.

Bus journey might not seem fun to most of the people, especially for the college students and even more frustrating if they were from India. No...i'm not down shading about the buses we travel and that are badly maintained or anything like that, like the image the western travelers have about the bus journeys of India. But, as a matter of fact, students like myself do get a lot tired in these daily commutes.

There are a lot of ways to overcome this tiring, endless journeys that take an hour or two in the students' daily life. Mobile phones are a major part of this. One might listen to music or some may have a long talk with their beloved ones, friends, family, etc. A pack of few friends talks their way around the journey. Some addicts may play PUBG with no earphones!! whatsoever and the whole journey you are just there listing to fake gunshots and random people screaming "GO TO THE LEFT!! HOLD THE DOOR!! HOLD THE DOOR!!". I on the other side am not any one of these. I sit the whole time looking at what is happening around me like a manic! I stare through the window at times, murmur my favorite songs' only two lines that I know or most of the time I enjoy the chaos happening around me and trust me it's fun!

There are times when the conductor is fighting with the passenger for not having the correct amount of currency or change as we call it. Some lady is fighting with a male passenger for sitting in her seat or there is a guy with overflowing emotions and is going all out on his wife or a friend on the phone and the people around him are usually laughing or are shocked to see him scream his lungs out. These incidents although are not very common but it only happens on a crowded bus which I don't prefer. When I do get on a bus like that...these incidents are my entertainment for a while. I know I might be sounding like a total stupid guy here. Until one day something happened that I still think about to this day.

It wasn't a special day for me at college and as always I was just sitting beside the window thinking weird things like 'what if there was a terrorist attack on my college and they attacked our classroom?' That day the bus was almost empty. There were probably 10 people including the driver and the conductor. I was over happy cause' I had an infinite leg space and the fact that I could sing my favorite song a bit loudly and nobody would care. Halfway down the route and someone pats my back. I turn around and see a middle-aged man. "You speak Hindi or Kannada?"-"Kannada," I say. He leans a bit forward and goes "I need a bit of help. Can you help me?" I pause the song that was playing on my phone and say "Yeah, sure. What is it?"-"I'm in deep trouble man" he goes. "I've lost everything I ever had. I need to go to Yelahanka New Town". I knew the moment he said this he wanted money from me. Maybe he chose me because I was a college-going teen so he could be a bit informal with me? I don't know exactly. The moment he said these lines I remembered an incident just like this when I was still in my school. A man who looked weak and almost dead had come up to me and had said something like he was broke and needed money to go back home, and I had given him some money I had which he had taken but despite that he had asked some of the antique currency notes I had that day in my wallet, to which I had said no. The very next day I had seen the same man doing this to other people and I knew he was an alcoholic. The worst part? I had met so many people like him that I had lost trust in them. The initial response to this man's question was "sorry sir...I'm a college student I don't carry much money" and he said "oh...it's okay. I have only 10 rupees with me and I need to travel. I only asked you if you had something to help me out". He didn't pursue to ask me for more money any further. Which actually got me thinking.

"What happened? is it something serious?" I turn around and ask. His eyes were pale and the corner of his eyes was almost wet and teary. He turns towards me and says "umm..nothing. My daughter has been ill for quite a long time now and I needed to meet someone in Yelahanka. Someone whom I knew could help me out". He seemed not to continue the conversation which got me, even more, thinking if he was really legit? so I ask "What has happened? how old is she?"-"She is around 14. They say she has a viral fever and needs to shift her to the special ward and it's going to cost 2000 a day and separate medication charges. I don't know what to do...Its already been a week or half there and they have cost me all my savings. I have no money now. Not even in the bank. I'm totally zero now, I had 25 rupees and the ticket cost me 15. I just have 10 rupees now. 10 rupees in my life now."-I didn't know what to say and whatnot. Should I trust or not. "Where is she admitted?"-"Shanmuga hospital," He says without any hesitation. I knew Shanmuga hospital and they are actually costly. Why was I asking so many questions if I couldn't help him I thought. I reached out to my bag. I had the only one left out 50 rupees note. Handed it to him. He was a bit relieved after I did that but that 50 rupees were no way going to help him.

I started this experience of mine saying I still think about him, that's because after I gave him the money something weird happened. "Thank you!" he says and continues about his sorrow for a while and tells me how he had to sell his watch and that gave him enough money for lunch. The meal he said he hadn't had since the previous night. I sit back and resume the music I was playing thinking about what I'd have done with that 50 rupees I gave him and was he really going to use it or just spend it on alcohol if he was lying to me. "Please help me out bhai" He then says to me patting my back. I again pause the song and go "That's all I had...Sorry". Now, this had got me thinking. "Can you ask your parents, please? I need help or I don't know what my bacchi will have to suffer"-"No sorry I can't...I um..Live in a PG I say"-"friends?" he says, "I mean they are also students right?"-"what about their parents?" he goes. This was getting out of hand...One part of my brain is thinking 'I need that 50 rupees back! He is lying to me!!' the other going 'what if he's telling the truth and is a really sad father?'. "what about google pay? phone pay? paytm?"-"I don't have any of those" Which I genuinely don't. "oh..okay...Give me your phone number," he says. This was not possible! I have got stuck here with this mad man!! I think and refuse him. He goes on how and why I should help him for a while and gives me his phone number and says "Please help me man...and don't mind that I'm a Muslim help me please" he says, and walks down with a helplessness expression on his face. I am left baffled here. I sit quietly for a while, I don't resume the song playing, get down quietly and walk home quietly. I just think. I hadn't given him my cell number...not my friend's number...not even my name. So I'm safe I realize and get on with my day.

I still am in doubt if he was a real guy or not. I don't know is what I can say.

THIS IS A REAL INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED TO ME A FEW MONTHS AGO AND I DON'T INTEND TO HURT ANYONE BY MENTIONING THEIR RELIGION OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT. HE WAS A REAL PERSON AND NOT MADE UP FOR THE SAKE OF THIS STORY.
