White can trace his lineage to the town's founders, Jim and Willie Shankle, who share an epic love story. Today, Shankleville only has 100 people. However, it got a bit of national attention last year when Michael Strahan, a retired football star and TV personality, discovered his ties to the community in PBS' "Finding Your Roots." I can’t believe that in all of the years I’ve been on social media, I haven’t made this post. I am named after a great woman by the name of Winnie Shankle. As black history month concludes, there isn’t a more fitting opportunity to share this information. In my opinion this is the ultimate love story ❤️ https://texasforesttrail.com/plan-your-adventure/historic-sites-and-cities/sites/shankleville-community #blackhistorymonth #blacklovematters #slaverycouldntstopit #shanklevilletx #descendant https://www.instagram.com/p/CL2WeVYsTKO/?igshid=98b74qzx55ak
