Bestie I literally just read flower and I’m OBSESSED and I can imagine y/n trying to turn tattooh into a swiftie whilst he tries to explain the rap beef to y/n 😭
no bc this was such a good and unique idea i had to write a little something for it !!
wordcount: 1.3k
. . .
“Okay, so what was it again?” Y/N asked, a dip between her brows as she fastened the bow on a bouquet of flowers she was completing for a baby shower they had been invited to next weekend.
“So Kendrick-”
“The guy who featured on Bad Blood?” Y/N double-checked.
Harry chuckles, “I mean he’s also a Pulitzer Prize winner but that too.” She nods, waiting for him to continue, “So he featured on a song with a bunch of other artists basically taking aim at J Cole and Drake-”
“Oh I know him, he posted a picture of him and Taylor on his Instagram that one time two years ago,” Y/N says.
Harry nods, desperate to finish explaining to her the current online events he had been obsessively keeping track of over the past twenty-four hours, “Right, right. So anyway,” Harry continued to explain the ongoing tension in the world of rap circling the internet with Y/N nodding a long, nothing but confusion on her face.
Amongst many things, Y/N and Harry’s music tastes were polar opposites. Whilst Y/N loved pop - Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo - Harry tended to lean more towards alternate music, genres like rap and grunge or anything before the 2000’s. He loved rock bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. On their first New Year’s Eve together, they’d spent the entire night at a karaoke bar in the city, four Shania Twain sons deep by the time the clock hit midnight.
Although they were at opposite ends of the spectrum when it came to their music tastes, they loved talking to each other about what they were listening to. They would share their weekly Spotify stats over dinner at the end of each week and make playlists for each other to listen to whenever they were taking the train somewhere.
As Harry finished explaining, Y/N picked up the bouquet and carried it over to where he was sitting, placing it on the table in front of him.
Even as he was speaking, Harry automatically reached out to slide an arm around her waist beneath her fuzzy, pink cardigan rubbing circles with his thumb over the exposed bit of skin on her hip.
“That sounds… really complicated, H.” Y/N sighed, “I’d hate to get into an argument like that.”
Harry smiled at how adorable she looked with pouty lips and concern on her face, “Lucky for you flower, y’ much too difficult to get into any kind of argument with.”
Harry and Y/N rarely had major arguments. Typically, their disagreements were over minor or unimportant matters, often ending with Harry showering her with kisses as an apology or Y/N clinging to him until he forgave her.
“And he wants Drake to die?” Y/N gasps, “That’s awful.”
Harry nods, watching her hands carefully move around the flowers in the bouquet to get them in the perfect place. “Hmm, ‘s not the nicest thing to say to a person,”
Y/N sighed, sitting on his thigh when her legs got too tired from standing. His lips puckered against the base of her exposed neck from where she had tied her curls up with a scrunchie. He inhaled the floral perfume he had bought her for Valentine’s Day. She was obsessed with it, dousing herself in it every morning and before she went to bed.
“Have you listened to Taylor’s new album by the way?” Y/N wondered, turning to hook her leg over his other thigh so she was straddling him. She was pressed between him and the worktop, her arms moving around his neck and fingers fiddling with the curly baby hairs by his neck.
Harry winced, “Ummm…”
“Harry,” Y/N huffed, “You said you would listen to it so I could talk you through it track by track.”
“I know! I’m getting to it, y’know I’ve jus’ been busy this week.” Harry stated, which was true. It had been the school holidays and a lot more customers had visited both their shops than usual.
“The album came out weeks ago,” Y/N said, pushing herself off of him to start putting everything away for tomorrow.
Before she could take one step, Harry grabbed her wrist and pulled her into him, “I will, baby - promise, I’ll get to it and then y’ can talk for as long as y’ want all about it. Y’ can even put your pj’s on and show me y’ little dance y’ used to do when I heard y’ havin’ y’ little solo parties before we met,” He smirked against her neck.
Y/N blushed, clearing her throat and moving away. Her eyes narrowed, “You better.” She walked back to the front desk, “And they weren’t solo parties! Marsh was there too,” She said, referring to her little cat.
. . .
During her lunch break, Y/N reached for her bag to eat the pasta salad Harry had prepared for her that morning before they left for work. When she unzipped the bag, she found his Star Wars lunchbox inside instead of her own.
She slid off her seat and walked straight to his tattoo shop next door, knowing he had probably mixed up their lunches and ended up with her Cinnamoroll one.
She pushed the door open, expecting to hear the strums of an electric guitar or the low grovel of an indie rock band playing over the Bluetooth speakers. But instead, she was shocked to hear the voice of her favourite singer.
Her heart soared even before she saw him as she walked past the front desk. "Hey Mike, what's with the music?" She asked as if she didn’t know already.
“Harry insisted he put it on this morning. You have to go in there and tell him it’s killing the vibe.” Mike grumbled, taking a puff of the vape in his hand.
Y/N smiled, “I quite like it.”
“Of course you do,” He rolled his eyes.
Y/N walked through to the back rooms where she heard the steady sounds of a tattoo gun. Her eyes found Harry, deeply focused on the design he was tattooing on someone’s wrist.
Y/N stood to one side and waited patiently, “Okay that’s all done,” Harry clicked his tongue, pushing his chair away and wrapping up the tattoo for the customer.
After the customer had left, she stepped into the room, “Hi Harry,” She beamed, floating over to him. He looked so cute and cuddly today, wearing a grey sweatshirt and black trousers with his usual Doc Martens and a navy-coloured beanie to cover his curls.
A smile carved onto Harry’s face, “Hi flower,” He removed his gloves and met her halfway, pulling her into a hug and kissing her softly.
“Missed you,” She murmured against his lips.
“Miss you always, flower.” He brushed a loose curl behind her ear, “Thought I wasn’t meeting y’ ‘til later?”
“Oh,” She pulled out the lunchbox and handed it to him, “I think we got our lunches mixed up,”
Harry furrowed his brows, grabbing the plastic bag with his lunch inside only to find her pink lunchbox instead. He chuckles, “Ah, must have been the early morning getting to me.”
“S okay,” Y/N grins, “I like your music choice by the way.”
Harry smirked, “Promised a girl something,”
“Oh really?” Y/N’s grin deepened, “Well I’m sure she’ll be very happy you kept your promise.”
“I’ve been thinking about her all morning, getting to hear her talk non-stop later about her favourite songs.” He says, her arms sliding up his torso to meet at the back of his back.
She stood on her toes, his head dropping and their noses brushing together, “All morning?”
“All the time,” He breathes, “Can’t seem to stop thinking about her since I met her.”
“Hmm, well she’s a very lucky girl.” Y/N murmurs.
His lips met hers, the low light above shining down on them as the Tortured Poets Department came to an end and ‘Lover’ played on shuffle over the speakers of his tattoo parlour.

I have some song suggestions for your sonamy playlist, if you are open to listen to some! ^^
Everyone has their own taste and preferences of course, but these tracks always made me think of them in one way or another :
You’re still the one - Alex melton (this is a cover so the original by Shania Twain obviously works too lol I just prefer this cover, it’s more my genre )
Unconditionally - Katy Perry
Jet lag - simple plan ft Natasha bedingfield (Vibe of when missions or something causes them to separate for extended periods of time~ )
Your guardian angel - red jumpsuit apparatus (😭 I’m sure you know this one already but gawd damn , if that ain’t sonic fully willing to sacrifice himself for her, on his potential death bed confessing his love… )
If it kills me -From the Casa Nova Sessions - Jason Mraz **MUST BE the casa Nova sessions version, trust me, it’s so much more emotional **(This one …. Uggh this one is everything.. I have so many fic ideas birthed from this swirling around in my brain 😩)
Hungry Heart ft. Hayley Kiyoko - Steve Aoki
Million bucks - smallpools
Come on get higher - Matt nathanson
Anyways , no pressure at all if you don’t want to take a listen, only if you want to :) have a good day!
I'm sorry-
Tumblr media
You're gonna come into MY HOUSE, suggest a bunch of BANGERS for my PLAYLIST, hint that you have SONAMY FIC IDEAS THAT YOU'RE TEMPTED TO WRITE, and then you're gonna stay ANONYMOUS ON ME?!
You heartbreaker!
Jokes aside, these songs were super great and most were totally my style of music! I had heard a few of these but forgot about them so those were a fantastic rush of nostalgia. Thank you for sharing and I hope one day you write the story/stories you were thinking and that I get to read them!

i was lowkey tumblr stalking asks you’ve answered before (i apologize i just love how in depth u answer) and now i wanna know your tierlist (A/B/C/D/F) for the songs on GUTS. include deluxe pls bc imo the deluxe tracks are better than many main album tracks hehe
well first off you can ALWAYS stalk me and never apologize for it, i love answering stuff and i love that people actually read it HAHA! so please <3 stalk away <3 i love it
i LOVE this question. i was going to make one of those images like the youtubers do for tier lists but then i realized i would have to explain myself anyway so im just going to give each song a letter grade and a little blurb about why i think this... so here goes 🤓
i actually have to put this under a cut because it got so long that i am not going to clog up people's dash with my long and way too detailed thoughts on GUTS but please read this if it is of interest bc i would love to continue discussing haha
so first i'm going to say to me overall guts is like a solid A-/A for a sophomore album. i don't think it's perfect but i think as far as showing growth from the first album, expanding on themes and sounds that were explored in sour, and just maturing while still feeling like a natural progression -- i think it does all of that really nicely while also managing to carve out a unique niche for olivia in the industry. so like. YES! great. (i have been saying that while i see olivia compared to taylor swift a lot, i think it's actually a much better comparison to compare her to avril lavigne in the early 2000s -- avril was originally "discovered" via performing with shania twain (which in some ways we could argue for being a taylor/olivia situation but in the 90s) and a lot of her early work and songwriting is influenced by the country music scene, but, just like olivia, her first album smashed onto the scene and captured the teenage zeitgeist in a really unique and special that was really of the moment it was released and dug into rock inspired hooks and sounds that resonated with the audience of young teens. if "driver's license" is olivia's "complicated," i think we can easily argue that "good 4 u" is her sk8r boi. (and deja vu is her i'm with you, the best single and best song in both of their discographies I SAID WHAT I SAID!) anyway all that is to say i think that GUTS and under my skin ALSO share a lot of parallels both in how they were marketed and the way they dive deeper into darker themes while expanding on a lot of what made the first album great, if perhaps not spawning the level of radio hits as the first album. anyway it's just something i think about that i don't see talked about all that much and i find it really interesting. i could keep going but i know that was an insane digression so let's get to the grades.)
all american bitch - B+ i think this song is a great opener and it has some really great lines in it -- the sarcasm makes it so fun and tongue in cheek and i actually like the scream, my reason for not being able to give it an A is just that i do feel like it's very much "putting on a persona" of being a rock punk chick, which is absolutely cool and is extremely well done, it just doesn't feel 100% authentic to me. like, i like the scream but it feels more like an acting performance than a genuine scream of anguish, but olivia is such an appealing actress that i'm like, yeah girl go off
bad idea right? - A+ this is the deja vu of the album for me. it is SUCH A GOOD SONG and it has the best video by far of any of the singles, it's so clever and creative and i actually really love her vocal delivery, it's bratty and obnoxious but for some reason it DOES feel authentic to me in a way AAB doesn't, i think it takes its influences and manages to reinterpret and transform them into something totally unique and personal to olivia and it's just GREAT. (i think a great example of how good this song is is honestly the kelly clarkson cover she did, it was a really fun cover but you could just tell that olivia's version works better, it's a song that feels like it could only be done by her and i love it for that.)
vampire - B i actually thought i'd rate this lower bc it is my least favorite song on the album but like, okay it's FINE. my issue with vampire is that 1) it feels like the label said "write another ballad that sounds like drivers license and we'll use that as the lead single" which i don't like, and 2) i've written before that my main issue with vampire is that it DOES NOT COMMIT to the genuinely cool metaphor that it attempts. i actually love the line "you only come out at night" because i think it's really clever and creative to extend the "sucking me dry" metaphor of a vampire. i think following that up with "i used to think i was smart but you made me look so naive" is such a let down and so cliche that it annoys me every time i hear the song. like, if the song instead was like "i should have known it was strange, you only come out at night/you said i tasted so sweet til nothing was left in my veins" or something i would think it was a great song. but instead we get that clunky cliche of a line and it irritates me. the song has potential but it just doesn't deliver.
lacy - A- (tw: ed) so i think that this song is about struggling with an ed and i think it is really amazing if you read it through that lens. i don't even really want to say that much more about it because when i saw someone say that on twitter and i listened to the song thinking about that, it hit me really hard and i think it's brilliantly done but it's intense. i think olivia said that it came out of a poem she wrote and i think that lacy is the personification of that really personal struggle and i think it's a beautiful and deeply sad metaphor and the song actually does it really well. i also really love her vocal delivery on the recording and i think it's beautifully produced, the layered vocals at the end are really gorgeous.
ballad of a homeschooled girl - A- honestly i have the same comments as i do about all american bitch except i just think this song is slightly better and feels a little more authentic. i think the lyrics on this one are really clever as well and i love the little production quirks like "how to flirt" and the outro is SO FUN and i love the sort of fourth wall break of "can't think of a third line" and the la la la that just kind of smashes into the end of the song, i think it works so well with the concept of the song so yeah. great.
making the bed - B+ this is a song where i'm like, there's nothing WRONG with it i just don't think it's particularly special, like it's a good song and it has some really great lyrics i just think it's a decent song that accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do. it's good. no real notes. my favorite lyric is "they tell me that they love me like i'm some tourist attraction" -- i love when the pop girls talk about the complexities of fame, and olivia seems strikingly self aware in a lot of her lyrics and that one is really a hard hitter. (it reminds me of billie's getting older song, "the things i once enjoyed just keep me employed now" and "another thing i ruined i used to do for fun" which are both lines that i feel like really do a nice job of exploring how it feels when your art and artistic expression becomes a job and a persona. i think billie and olivia are doing so much cool stuff and they both just seem like such cool and interesting girls. they just give the vibe that it would be so fun to get dinner with them and talk about their experience of teenage fame because they both seem to have some really interesting and complex insights about it.)
logical - B- tbh this song is kinda boring to me. it's fine but i just think it's a theme that is explored better in other songs. the one line i really like is "if rain don't pour and sun don't shine" because i like to imagine that it's a reference to taming of the shrew act iv scene v.
get him back! - A+ SO GOOD COME ON GET HIM BACK IS SO GOOD AHHHHHH i get mad thinking about the music video bc the iphone lens makes it so weird and i think this could've had an even better video without the iphone gimmick but holy cow this song is so good. it's so clever, it's so fun, it ROCKS. (though this is the point on the album where i start to get annoyed by all the production quirks, i think they are fun on a couple songs but we don't need the "is this the song with drums" thing, just play the song. there's only so much studio chatter that makes a song fun before it gets a little grating to listen to every time i want to play the song.) but this is a brilliant song. I WANNA MEET HIS MOM AND TELL HER HER SON SUCKS. has anyone ever more perfectly captured how it feels to be nineteen. ugh this song is so good.
love is embarrassing - A i actually really like this song and i think it's a really nice spiritual closer to sour. it does such a nice job of reflecting but in a funny, tongue-in-cheek, self aware way that i think is so appealing and cute. i love "you found a new version of me and i damn near started world war three" as a callback to "another actress i hate to think that i was just your type" and i LOOOVE the outro with "i'm planning out my wedding with some guy i'm never marrying" which i think is a fantastic line. i love the vocal delivery on the outro as well. (also this is an example for me of a song with no studio chatter or production gimmicks, and it's GOOD bc it's like, it doesn't need that! it's just a fun song! and i like it for that!!)
the grudge - A- honestly a beautiful song that captures a very specific feeling. i love the melody and the way she delivers "how could anybody do the things you did so easily?" the second verse is an absolute gut punch of what it feels like to come away from a toxic love. it has a couple clunkers (i'm not a fan of "trust that you betrayed, confusion that still lingers" which i think is just a bit awkward) but overall it's a lovely song and so raw.
pretty isn't pretty - A again just a really solid work. i love the guitar sound on it. and i think it does a really nice job of capturing another specific teenage emotion. one thing i love on GUTS is that it feels legitimately balanced between songs about heartbreak and songs about personal feelings and this song is one that i think does that second part very well. i really love the second prechorus line "it's in my phone it's in my head it's in the boys i bring to bed" and i think this song is really insightful and personal.
teenage dream - B my issue with this song is my same issue with hope ur ok which is that it just feels so aware of itself as AN ALBUM CLOSER and i find it a bit cloying. i think the theme is interesting and has potential but the song just annoys me because it feels kind of overdone. idk. i just don't love it. i get it and i get why it's there but i think there was a better way of closing the album in a more genuine way.
BONUS TRACKS RANKING LINK (i have to link a new post here since i hit the character limit on this post. geez lol)

Orville Peck is GQ Australia’s inaugural International Musician of the Year
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/orville-peck-is-gq-australias-inaugural-international-musician-of-the-year/
Orville Peck is GQ Australia’s inaugural International Musician of the Year
Orville Peck has been crowned GQ Australia’s inaugural International Musician of the Year at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in Sydney.
The out-country music spunk joined the most talented, influential and pioneering figures in fashion, entertainment, sports and the arts at the GQ Awards.
The Wiggles presented Peck with the award at Sydney’s heritage-listed White Bay Power Station.
“I’m very happy to be here,” Peck said,
“Continuing the latest Rugby trend of South Africans winning in Australia,
“I figured I would come down here and graciously accept this award.
“Thank you to GQ for having me,”
“I really love Australia, it’s one of my favourite places to tour,” the South African-born musician said.
“I love Australian culture,
“Especially your proclivity for coming up with very strange phrases that nobody would know anywhere else around the world.
“Also, you gave us Bailey Smith, Chris Hemsworth and Hugh Jackman,” Peck added,
“So on behalf of gay people everywhere, thank you very much for that.”

I’ve been out since I was little
“I grew up fairly lonely, feeling pretty outcast and alienated,” Peck said in 2020,
“So my translation of that into a country and western star was to be this lone cowboy figure.”
Peck launched onto the country music scene masking up (pre-covid) with a powerful enchanting sound.
His sexuality was something he never felt the need to mask.
“I’ve been out since I was little,” Peck said,
“I was very lucky to grow up in a family environment where I was very protected and loved for whoever I was going to be.”
He’s collaborated with everyone from Willy Nelson, Shania Twain and our very own Kylie Minogue.
Now he is getting into the holiday spirit with his new track ‘Happy Trails’.
Singing ‘And although I wish you were here with me instead, I see happy trails ahead’ speaks of a past love.
‘I’ve ridden on all sorts of trails, been ran off, escaped, strolled along,’ he sings.
‘Most of all run away, and although I wish you were here with me instead, I see happy trails ahead.’
Wishing good will upon his ex-lover, whose orbit has taken him out yonder.
A beautiful way to end the year, instead of harbouring resentment, he offers peace sending them into the sunset.

Swift Ascent - Dolly Magazine - May 2009
Original Scans; Conducted on March 14, 2009 in Sydney
As usual, this was transcribed for the interviews spreadsheet.
DOLLY's Emma V meets Taylor Swift and discovers she's the perfect antidote to trashy starlets like Paris and Lindsay, proving once and for all that nice girls really do finish first.
I'm standing in the middle of an excited crowd on a Saturday night in March when a tall blonde walks onto the stage. "I feel like we should get to know each other," she says into the microphone "I'll start - my name's Taylor, I'm class of 2008, koalas ave my new favourite animal, and I officially love Australia". The crowd roars in approval, while 19-year-old Taylor Swift grins from ear-to-ear. Watching her flit across the stage ina micro-mini green sequined dress, it's hard to believe we're just a hop, skip and jump away from Mount Kosciusko at the "CMC Rocks the Snowys" country music festival. But like the festival itself, which is free of line-dancing and boot- scooting. Taylor is a contradiction Born in the small US town of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Taylor surprised everyone when she developed a passion for country music "The kids at school thought it was weird that I liked country -they'd make fun of me," she confessed recently. But Miss Swift didn't let a little thing like peer pressure put her off "discovered Shania Twain, Faith [Hill] and the Dixie Chicks, and I found all these things in their songs I could relate to country music told stories that made me think."
RELUCTANT SUPERSTAR As I wait backstage for my interview with Taylor, it's obvious when she enters the room, even though I can't actually see her due to all the people trying to catch a glimpse - I haven't seen so much fuse over ane person since interviewing Jessica Alba! Despite the hangers-on and the gaggle of minders rushing around, she appears relaxed and cheerful as she records a TV interview. Watching all the craziness unfold, it's hard to believe the statuesque teen (she stands at 180cm, the same height as supermodel Gisele Bündchen) was a loner at school. "Junior high was actually sort of hard, because I got dumped by this. group of popular girls," she revealed during an interview recently. "They didn't think I was cool or pretty enough so they stopped talking to me when I'd sit down at the lunch table, they'd get up and move. Or as I was setting up my equipment to sing karaoke at the town summer festival, the kids would shout horrible things."
TAYLOR BY NUMBERS Costume changes in her live show: 1 (she ripped off her black tee and jeans to reveal a green sequined shift dress) Signed first song-writing deal at 13 Scored first number-one at 16 Number of friends on MySpace: 1,177, 650-and counting! Number of albums sold: 6,000,000+
THE TAYLOR EFFECT Finally it's my turn to chat to Miss Swift, but before I sit down, she extends her hand and says, "Hi, I'm Taylor." I'm impressed -most celebrities fail to observe basic pleasantries when you meet them. As we chat a number of things strike me: her skin is like porcelain- I have to fight the urge to ask if it's real. Her hair is her signature thing-flowing curls which are naturally honey blonde (she's never coloured her hair), and her eyes-even when the questions get more personal, her blue eyes atay fixed on me the whole time. Many industry people say it's this natural air that sets Taylor apart from other young musicians. "I didn't want to write songs about being on the road and being in hotels and missing your family and missing your friends," she says. "I'm inspired by boys and love. Those are my favourite things to write about." After Joe Jonas dumped her in a 27-second phone call, Tay didn't get angry: she simply used the experience to pen the track "Forever & Always" which was a late inclusion in her top-selling alburn, Fearless. I ask her if she worries about whether potential boyfriends will be scared off by her candid song-writing style. She pauses, before saying, "I think my motto on that is that if guys don't want me to write bad songs about them, they shouldn't do bad things". It's a little piece of Taylor wisdom to take home, along with a photo and a hug that makes me think we could all use a bit of Taylor's sunny outlook in our lives.
TAYLOR TALKS, ER, SWIFTLY ON
HER DEATHROW MEAL "A huge cheeseburger, large fnes and a chocolate milkshake." WHAT MAKES HER SMILE "When I've just figured out the perfect word to go in that gap I was missing [in a song that s when I am at my happiest." BEING IN LOVE "I don't think I've had one great love of my life. Love is interesting because you can feel like you are in love and then after, you realise that if it had been that great love, then it would have lasted." HER SECRET TO MYSPACE SUCCESS. "My success on MySpace has come from not treating my MySpace as a promotional site, like I just wanted to get a lot of fans and use them to buy my albuma. I just wrote on my MySpace [about] who I am as a person, what I like, what I don't like. I think that being real with people is the best that you can do Just be yourself if you keep having to reinvent yourself, eventually you'll run out of things to be." HER LAST BIG SPLURGE "I bought a tour bus this year-that was a big splurge! But that's like where I live, so it's sort of like investing in a new house on wheels. It has a treadmill out the back, it has a shower, a complete bathroom, wood floors, a huge bed and a chandelier over the bed. It's really fun!"

Yung Gravy - Serving Country
I’m gonna say the same thing I did when I reviewed Bilmuri’s new album, American Motor Sports: what’s up with every band releasing a country album now? Bilmuri did, Post Malone’s got one coming out, and now Yung Gravy just dropped one after dropping a few southern fried singles over the past few months. Called Serving Country, although Biscuits & Gravy would have been a way better title, I had no idea it was even coming out until I saw it. I listened to a couple of the singles from it, and thought they were fine, but I wondered how much of this album was a gimmick. Yung Gravy’s interesting, too, because he’s never expressed any fascination with country or wanting to make an album in that vein, but it could be good. I figured I’d listen to it, just to see what it was all about, so what did we get with this project?
Honestly, I like Serving Country, but it does feel like more or less a gimmick, versus Gravy wanting to make a country album, because it just feels like his usual schtick with a banjo or steel guitar over it. As much as I like Yung Gravy, I only really like a handful of songs here, but I can’t say it’s all bad (a couple of songs aren’t that good, though, but I’ll get to those later). I will say that the guests on this album leave a lot to be desired, whether it’s Zac Brown, Shania Twain, Brantley Gilbert, or Juicy J, although the latter has the best guest spot on the whole album, despite not even being a country artist. That’s the strange thing, too, this album relies heavily on guests. Zac Brown is on two songs here, and I don’t quite understand why, but the guests aren’t great.
Musically, this album is really strange, because it has a little too much interpolation on it, such as “Clementine” being an interpolation of “Chicken Fried” by Zac Brown Band, or “My Day 1’s,” which is an interpolation of a Shania song, both of whom show up here. It’s not a huge problem, but it’s not like he does anything with the songs, just recreates the melody with different words. Most of this album is his typical rap sound with a southern twist, such as “Lone Ranger,” “DMPB,” “Whoa Nelly,” “My Garage,” “Back On That Horse,” and a few others. It’s nothing special, but sometimes the hooks are pretty fun, although that’s about it.
The lyrics on this album, as with every Gravy album, aren’t very good. They’re actually pretty awful a lot of the time, especially on songs like “My Garage,” “Love You For Leavin’,” “White Claw,” “Cop A Truck,” and pretty much everything else here. Some of these songs are just bad period, but the lyrics aren’t even the fun kind of bad, although a few songs get close to that. I didn’t have as much fun with this album as with others from him, and even the last track, which is a remix of Dylan Marlowe’s “Boys Back Home” that features Gravy, is a fun closing track, but it doesn’t really save this.
Is this album one of the worst of the year? Not at all, and it’s actually pretty fun in spots, but the more listens I gave this, the more I realized that this album has some major issues, especially just having some bad songs all around. It’s fun if you can look past some of the bad lyrics, the guests not doing much of anything, or this album feeling like a cowboy cosplay, but if you start to actually think about it, it just doesn’t sit well with me. I don’t hate it, and it’s not one of the worst of the year, but this could have better, for sure.

Duran Duran - All You Need Is Now
I'm continuing the link between all my music. Mark Ronson (who I posted about yesterday) produced All You Need Is Now, which in my opinion is the best Duran Duran album ever. Interestingly, both Ronson's album and this one were released during the same year. (Also, I was supposed to listen to this album after the Scissor Sisters' album that I posted about - but chose to listen to Shania Twain instead. The link between this album and Night Work is Ana Matronic, who is the female lead from Scissor Sisters)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Duran Duran superfan Mark Ronson envisioned this album to be the sequel to their 1982 album Rio. While it is inspired by the 80's soundscape, it sounds very modern. There are lots of guitars, prominent synths, big melodies, stadium-ready choruses and many dance-ready numbers. There's an energy on this album that has been missing on the band's last few albums. Simon sings about everything from paranoia, killer-GPS, men stealing leopards, and, of course, models! There are 3 duets on the album - the Kelis collaboration is the highlight of the whole album. Of all the band's albums that I've heard, including their most successful ones from the 80's, this one remains my favourite. Hopefully they will go back to Mark Ronson sometime in the future.
The album was released in many formats with different tracklists. My version of the album leaves out some of the interludes that don't add much to the main album. I've compiled the bonus tracks from various releases on an EP called A Diamond In The Mind, which is actually the title of their live album. The 4 bonus tracks are fantastic - and should have been on the main album. But I imagine they were trying to avoid the "too much of a good thing" critique. I can't complain though - 16 stellar songs from these sessions. I'm happy Durannie!

Currently Reading: Nothing atm-- though I just got through some wonderful fics by @fizzyxcustard! I received a new book in the mail from a tiktok author: Assistant to the Villain --Hannah Nicole Maeher
Sweet/Spicy/Savory: SWEET all the way!
Relationship Status: Single (ugh again), but not sure if I'm ready to mingle. Don't really know where to start after a 5 year marriage... Can't I just clone a loving, faithful, fictional husband, plz?
Current Obsession: Man, I am still in my fangirl era, and as I am a seasonal writer, 'back to school'/ work season launch has me ready to go back to my Hobbit era with its rich colors and cultures. Plus some great songs on my YT playlist are giving me some inspiration.

Spotify end-of-year overview!
Tumblr media
So that is what Spotify claims.
However I requested a download of my data through Spotify to find the truth, because once again I was missing K3.
Tumblr media
(^Because the GDPR is the thing that makes this all possible, it should get some recognition)
This year seems actually less off than other years, but again I was right in missing K3.
These are my actual top artists:
1) Taylor Swift (with 7432 minutes listened) 2) K3 (with 5683 minutes listened) 3) Olivia Rodrigo (with 1981 minutes listened) 4) Ed Sheeran (with 1779 minutes listened) 5) SIX (with 1048 minutes listened)
This seems pretty comparable to what Spotify is saying, of course with K3 inserted. HOWEVER, Lin-Manuel Miranda is only 9th on my list?? The Matilda the Musical cast, Queen and Shania Twain are all ranked higher. A possible answer to this is that it seems like the data Spotify gave me has trouble with tracks featuring multiple artists. All those songs only list one artist. It could be that all the musical ensemble songs are therefore not properly taken into account.
Okay, so moving on to my top songs, I once read that your wrapped top 10 is supposed to be accurate and the other 90 songs are more randomly placed to give a better division of songs in the playlist, so lets list all 10 songs they gave me:
1) The Man 2) All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault) 3) good 4 u 4) Would've, Could've, Should've 5) We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (Taylor's Version) 6) Man! I Feel Like A Woman! 7) brutal 8) Promises 9) Anti-Hero 10) Eyes Closed
And the top 10 songs I got from the data:
1) The Man (with 110 streams) 2) All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault) (with 104 streams) 3) Kijk ons nou (uit Liefde Voor Muziek) - Live (with 89 streams) 4) Would've, Could've, Should've (with 85 streams) 5) good 4 u (with 84 streams) 6) We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (Taylor's Version) (with 84 streams) 7) Part of Your World (Carly Rae Jepsen cover) (with 81 streams) 8) deja vu (with 79 streams) 9) brutal (with 78 streams) 10) Oya Lélé (with 77 streams)
And these are the spots of the songs not in my actual top 10:
11) Man! I Feel Like A Woman! (with 74 streams) 12) Eyes Closed (with 74 streams) 13) Promises (with 73 streams) 15) Anti-Hero (with 71 streams)
There are 2 K3 songs in my top 10!!
Some things to note here is that while the order is kinda fucked up beyond missing K3, it might not be as bad as it seems, because 1) I don't know the exact cut-off time for the data collection for Wrapped. I think it was up to november 14th, because that gets the minutes listened to Taylor Swift closest to what the slideshow was telling me (3 minutes off), but it could also be November 12th or 13th (I barely listened to Spotify on the 13th, so I can't say anything about that, but the 12th brings my top song amount closest to what Spotify tells me).
And 2) when I pause a song and later continue, it gets listed as two plays in the data. This could be fixed in my stats program, but I haven't done that (yet) so that might put the number of streams I counted a bit higher than the number of actual streams, and especially since some numbers are very close together this might change the order. We can also see this when I sort the songs by number of minutes listened. This will obviously put all too well (10 minute version) on top, but with only 835 minutes listened, instead of the more than 1000 you would expect from 104 streams.
And that was me dragging Spotify for this year, however it actually sort of made sense this year so it wasn't too bad for them. The only question I still have is: WHERE IS K3???

How Taylor Swift Became a Global Superstar: The Inside Story
Tumblr media
Taylor Swift is one of the most successful and recognizable musicians in the world, and her journey to global superstardom has been nothing short of remarkable. From her humble beginnings in Pennsylvania to her rise to fame as a country music sensation, Swift has continually pushed the boundaries of the music industry and redefined what it means to be a modern-day pop star. In this article, we will explore the inside story of how Taylor Swift became a global superstar, delving into her early life, career beginnings, musical evolution, personal life, business savvy, philanthropic work, and future plans.
1. Early Life and Career Beginnings
Swift's Childhood and Early Interest in Music
Taylor Swift was born on December 13, 1989, in Reading, Pennsylvania. Her parents, Scott and Andrea Swift, were finance worker and homemaker, respectively. Swift has a younger brother, Austin, who is an actor. Swift's love for music began at an early age. Her maternal grandmother was an opera singer, and Swift would often sing with her. Swift was also inspired by Shania Twain. She started singing at local events and fairs when she was just 10 years old.
Swift's Early Performances and First Record Deal
When Swift was just 11 years old, she performed at the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville. At 14, she convinced her parents to move to Nashville so she could pursue her country music dreams. Swift's first record deal was with RCA records in 2004. However, she left the label before releasing any music due to creative differences. She was then signed to Big Machine Records and released her self-titled debut album in 2006.
Swift's Struggles and Setbacks in the Music Industry
Swift's early career was not without its struggles. She faced criticism for her young age, with some people considering her too inexperienced to be a country music artist. She also struggled with songwriting and often felt pressured to write her own songs. Despite these setbacks, Swift continued to work hard and improve her craft. She eventually found success with her debut album and her talent as a songwriter was recognized.
2. The Making of Taylor Swift's Self-Titled Debut Album
Swift's Songwriting Process and Collaborations
Swift's debut album was heavily influenced by her personal experiences. She wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on the album, drawing inspiration from her own romantic relationships and teenage experiences. Swift collaborated with songwriters Liz Rose and Nathan Chapman on several tracks on the album. She also had a hand in producing the album.
The Recording Process and Release of Taylor Swift
The album was recorded in several studios in Nashville over a two-year period. It was released in October 2006 to positive reviews. The lead single, "Tim McGraw," reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and helped launch Swift's career.
The Album's Critical and Commercial Reception
Taylor Swift's debut album was a critical and commercial success. It was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and earned Swift several award nominations, including a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. The album's success helped establish Swift as a rising country music star and set the stage for her future success.
3. From Country to Pop: Swift's Musical Evolution
Swift's Transition to Pop Music and Collaborations with Max Martin
Swift's music began to shift towards pop with her fourth studio album, Red, released in 2012. She continued this transition with her fifth album, 1989, which was released in 2014. Swift worked with producer Max Martin on both Red and 1989, marking a significant departure from her earlier country sound. Martin's influence helped Swift achieve a more polished and mainstream pop sound.
The Release and Success of 1989
1989 was a massive success for Swift. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and spawned hit singles such as "Shake It Off," "Blank Space," and "Bad Blood." It won multiple awards, including Album of the Year at the 2016 Grammy Awards. The success of 1989 cemented Swift's place as a pop music superstar.
Swift's Continued Musical Evolution and Experimentation
Swift continued to experiment with her sound on her sixth album, Reputation, which was released in 2017. The album saw Swift take on a darker, more electronic sound, with themes of betrayal and revenge. Her most recent album, Lover, released in 2019, saw Swift return to a more pop-oriented sound while still experimenting with new styles and sounds.

Dear @taylorswift ,
I have loved your music my whole life. You have said that you're accepting surprise song requests if the requests, of said request are politely worded, so I'm here today to finally put my masters degree in English to work. I had not planned to make a request, because so far I've been disappointed to have missed every single song you played, so I can only assume that whatever songs you play for my show will be just as thrilling. However, this past weekend you selected 2 different debut songs as surprise songs. This is very scary to me, as I don't want you to run out of debut tracks before you get to my tour date.
As I mentioned in my opener, I've loved your music my whole life. The first CD I ever bought for myself was Speak Now and your music has been central to my taste in music my whole life. I'd like to particularly request a debut song because I've never seen you live before and I'm not sure Debut will be on the docket for future concerts. That album was so present in my childhood and I would love nothing more than to hear you play a song from it live.
Another facet of my request is my concert buddy, my mom. My mom has also been listening to your music my whole life, and in fact got me into it. She really loves country music and you took a place of pride besides the Chicks and Shania Twain in our listening. I'm so excited to see your show with her and celebrate an artist we've both loved for so long, and I'd love to hear a more country based surprise song. She likes all of your music too, but between embracing nostalgia for the album and genre, your debut album settles into a particular place of adoration when we consider you discography.
Honestly, I mostly would just absolutely adore a debut track at the show we attend, but if you indulge a slightly more specific request I'd really love either Should've Said No or Picture To Burn. I was the kind of kid whose parents bought her a grumpy bear, I had a lot of anger at the world and those songs really managed to capture the raging fires of my 9 year old soul. These days I try to be more of a lover girlie but there's nothing quite like getting mad and reveling in it, just a little bit. One of my very vivid childhood memories is me dozing on the car ride home when Should've Said No came on the radio. I spring from sleep to sing along, probably scaring the pants of my poor parents. I just really love those songs.
I will certainly be absolutely thrilled no matter what song you sing, and the chances of you seeing this post are slim. But if on June 2nd the fancy strikes you, I'd love to get mad and yell at the world with you.
I am endlessly excited to see you in just over a month and to get to continue listening to your music.
Best,
Desiree

⸙͎ 5. COUNTRY MUSIC 🪕
Country music often includes the banjo, steel guitar, fiddles, and harmonicas as the primary instruments. The music uses repetition, simple chord structures, and lyrics that are easy to remember. Many country songs have a catchy chorus, and some singers are known for their twangy singing voices that come from Southern accents.
Dolly Parton and Shania Twain are top country music artists that made a huge impact to the world of music with popular songs ❛Jolene❜ and ❛Many Man of Mine❜ respectively.

9 favorite albums in no particular order
Tagged by @an-ivy-covered-summer (forever ago but I finally got to it!!)
Tagging anyone who wants too!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Runners up Hamilton broadway soundtrack, Avril Lavigne - Let It Go, Sheppard - Away, Princess Diaries 2 soundtrack, Adam Lambert - Trespassing, Fall Out Boy - Save Rock and Roll, American Beauty/American Psycho, and Mania, Meghan Moroney Am I Okay? And every other Taylor album, every other Shania Twain album, every other Chesney album and all the mix cds my friends in high school gave me that I still have
1. Trick Pony - Self Titled. I'm going to go full hipster here in that I am 100% sure I'm the only person on tumblr to ever heard of this band (I checked). But according to my parents this is the first cd I would ask to be played on never ending repeat on drives to the point my dad couldn't stand it and bought me my first cd player just so he could listen to something else. Songs I recommend: Party of One, Pour Me and Just What I do
2. Kenny Chesney - When the Sun Goes Down. Another album I would play on repeat. According to a story my dad would tell apparently I learned how to be quite by being handed lyric booklets to read and listening to this. Songs I would recommend: the title track, I Go Back and Anything but Mine
3. Shania Twain - Come on Over. Iconic. Just... purely iconic. If you don't know the opening beat to Man I feel like a Woman. I will say you have lived in cave for the last 30 years. Songs I would recommend: Man I feel Like a Woman, Honey I'm Home, That Don't Impress Me Much.
4-6 Marianas Trench - Ever After, Astoria and Phantoms. I tried so hard to find an image of all albums as one . Do you have the time to listen to over 3 hours of music? Reasons 1-100 why it is so hard to recommend my favorite band is that all three of these albums are connected telling one story in a fairy tale, an 80's adventure (ala the Goonies) and lastly an Edgar Allan Poe style horror poem. Set ups and callbacks can be traced through nearly every song. (There is also one other album that could be tied with it but I thought 3 was enough slots). Every song is written by lead singer and sonically cohesive is putting it mildly. Songs I would recommend the opening and closing tracks of each album
7. Halsey - Manic. It took me far too long to discover Halsey outside of the songs used in every other amv. This was the first album of hers I bought and I couldn't stop listening to it for weeks on end. She is amazing and I cannot wait for the Great Impersonator. Songs I would recommend: You Should be Sad, 3 Am and Clementine
8. Taylor Swift - Evermore. (Pretty sure my mutuals would think I was hacked if I didn't have at least one Taylor album) While I will always have a soft spot in my heart for folklore and all the songs on it. My preferred of the lockdown albums. I loved the more mature love story. Bon Iver's voice is still a jump scare on the title track. Songs I recommend Tis the Damn Season/Dorothea, Marjorie, Cowboy Like Me
9. Taylor Swift - The Tortured Poets Department and Anthology. I remember my brain going full blue screen the first time I listened to it. This album was such a surprise to all who understand it. But I have grown to love it and it has found its place in my top 3 of hers. And it may be recency bias but I do think this one takes Red's place as her standout album. Songs I recommend The Alchemy, The Manuscript, The Prophecy
