Cracky SVSSS Canon Divergence AU: Shang Qinghua (Airplane Bro) gets it into his head to try and "fix" Qijiu's relationship in order to 1) make his own work life easier and also 2) hopefully avert the ruthless destruction of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect by distracting Shen Qingqiu away from being a real piece of shit whenever the protagonist finally shows up. (Luo Binghe isn't here yet.)

Unfortunately, he gets this idea because he accidentally slept with Yue Qingyuan. It was during a late budgetary meeting. They'd both been slightly drunk. Yue Qingyuan had been sad and Shang Qinghua had been sad AND horny. It was a "bro helping another bro out" kind of thing! Shang Qinghua still can't really believe it happened. But it can't happen again! Bad idea!

Shang Qinghua encounters Shen Qingqiu in a brothel with half a plan on how to start unraveling that much damage, only... uh... Well, Shen Qingqiu got the wrong idea about what Shang Qinghua wanted from him, and Shang Qinghua's favorite type unfortunately happens to be "scary and mean and very pretty". Fuck! He accidentally slept with Shen Qingqiu too!

So, okay, back to Yue Qingyuan, who will definitely be the more reasonable person to talk to, because he hides all of his massive trauma like a polite person! Oh, shit, Yue Qingyuan is pretty hot, isn't he? And is coming on to Shang Qinghua again for a casual fuck... and whoops, the bad idea happened again! Fuck! When Shang Qinghua tries to have a productive conversation afterwards, Yue Qingyuan even confides in him a little. Yeah, bro, it IS super obvious that you're totally hung up on Shen Qingqiu, and oh, shit, you are NEVER going to make the first move, are you?

Okay, maybe "fixing" these guys is just not possible. Mistakes! He has made them! Shang Qinghua is just going to stay out of things moving forward. He's going to avoid them now! Oh, shit, Shen Qingqiu wants to know why Shang Qinghua was staring at him in that meeting and is slamming against a wall and- uh. Oh, wow. That's hot.

"Both of them?" Mobei-Jun says later, too bemused to be jealous. (Moshang aren't a thing yet. Maybe not ever a thing like that in this AU. Demons also have different societal conventions even so.)

"BOTH OF THEM!" Shang Qinghua wails, lying facedown on the floor of his house. He doesn't know why he's actually venting to Mobei-Jun, but he has NO ONE ELSE. He's getting SO well laid, sure, but the constant nagging feeling that he's going to get maimed this way is really putting a damper on the sex. Qijiu really, truly, honestly do NOT know that he's sleeping with both of them. "What is wrong with these people?! Why is their taste so bad? I made everything so much worse..."

"Stop fucking them then," Mobei-Jun suggests, as helpful as ever, which is not helpful at all. Mobei-Jun has never been helpful to anyone in his life. When he's not mildly annoyed by it, he thinks this shit is hysterically funny.

SJ collapses during peak lord meeting, and is taken to Qian Cao. Mqf did an examination while sj was passed out and finds that sj has been on sketchy/dubious/illegal suppressants ever since coming to Cang Qiong

(Maybe he started suppressants after joining Wu yanzi, since he presented the night he broke free of the qius)

The news of SJ’s 2nd gender is shocking, but MQF is a professional goddamn it, and he won’t spill SJ’s secret. However, since SJ is endangering his own health, MQF will advise that he quits the suppressants and have a heat to rebalance his qi or whatever. Of course he also suggests finding an alpha to spend it with bc alpha pheromones can have soothing effects for what is likely to be a quite intense heat. (Jury’s out on whether he insists that the sect leader know abt sj’s designation, but in this au maybe yqy already knows? but they’re definitely not reconciled either way.)

Of course sj refuses to have a heat and doubly refuses to have an alpha, but maybe he agrees to take a few days off suppressants, or maybe the reason he collapsed was due to a bad batch and his suppressants had to be tossed out, but for whatever reason, sqq is now off his suppressants for the first time in decades. He tries to seclude himself, but due to general sect sibling nosiness, everyone finds out his secret anyway. (lqg knocks down his door for a spar perhaps, and lqg is too noble to go blabbing, but a disciple probably sees/smells sj through the open door)

Since everyone already knows, sj goes off his suppressants altogether. (Perhaps in the common trope where it’s due to them all feeling regret over how they treated him and wanting to care for his health so they get rid of the suppressants? But I like the idea better that they already cared for him as sect siblings in their own way, but that his upbringing caused him to be wary of them and the rumors around him and his acerbic personality caused them to be a little wary of him in turn. I don’t think there’s any hatred or true cruelty between them though. Sj probably still wants to avoid heats, but his sect siblings make sure to cut off the sources of his suppressants for his health.)

Knowing that an alphas presence can help, many sect siblings offer to spend his heat with him. Of course he refuses due to various reasons (general distrust of alphas for most of them, violent history with lqg, weird guilt relationship w/yqy). I would like to say that he actually would agree to some of those on certain conditions though. For instance, if they would agree to being bound and immobile in immortal binding cables for the duration of the heat. Of course, none of them would agree to this, so it comes to be that there’s no option for him but to spend his heat alone.

However, :D there is a resident little freak in these peaks. Shang qinghua had been off the mountain range this whole time on a supply run/negotiating trade deals or something. When he comes back, a peak lord is filling him in, and of course he already knew that sj was an omega, but he never expected others to find out. While he’s freaking out over why his story’s getting off track, the peak lord grumbles something about sj being unreasonable and demanding to tie up alphas and shang qinghua lets the intrusive thoughts win and says something down bad about wanting Shen-shixiong to tie him up. And of course sj overhears or it gets back to him somehow.

For how sj thinks of shang qinghua, I like the perspective in this post, and in another post that I can’t find anymore, but where sj sees that sqh’s pathetic act is just an act and he sees it as a valid form of self preservation.

Basically, somehow Shen jiu does something a little intimidating and a lot hot to proposition sqh for his heat and they have a really good time with it and all the other alpha peak lords are a little jealous.

After spending this time together, I’d like to think they continue this sort of relationship and end up getting close to the point where SJ seeks out SQH even outside of heats and eventually they get together

Disorganized OG SQH thoughts under cut

If we can believe Airplane on SQH, his upbringing wasn't too terrible nor all that great, probably some "disposable" son in a family, starting as outer disciple on An Ding. Presumably he runs into the inadvertent ambush by Mobei-Jun, and is similarly thrown to die by his fellow disciples. Assuming this happens as such in the OG timeline, it's easy to see why SQH would have no qualms betraying the sect. Overall tho, I imagine he was ambitious even before MBJ to fight his way up the ranks regardless of the cost. I don't imagine him to be afraid to climb over corpses, if only to secure himself a place as peak lord. I could see him having a bit of a two-sidedness to him kinda like NHS. Pretend to be demure and harmless/weak to get what he wants and not draw attention since everyone assumes him incompetent outside of his work as lord of paperwork, but a lot more ruthless and unfriendly on the inside. He doesn't particularly care for his fellow peak lords and thus is willing to sell the secrets to MBJ in exchange for his life Cold and calculating, ruthless, A grade actor, two faced, rude but repays debts (like mbj leaving him alive and therefore doing stuff for him; I think he'd be aware that he's hopelessly outmatched against mbj so is this technically coercion??)

Anyway with SJ probably an enemy/rivals to lovers situation starting with a spiderman pointing meme game of "I know what you are" and ending in "everyone sucks - I agree" and watching the world burn together or something it's all still vague in my head

Gong Shangjiu, Shangguan Qian, and Zhuo Yichen (dressed as didi) were having an another attempt at "family" lunch.

ZYC (as didi) *starts sneezing*

ZYC (as didi) *continues sneezing violently*

ZYC *hand goes immediately to his side in search of a sword*

ZYC *looks in betrayal at GSJ as he was always ordered to leave cloud light sword in his designated room whenever he came over to avoid suspicion*

SGQ *clocks the motion but says nothing about it* (in a sachrine tone): are you ok didi?

ZYC *in a rare display of his similarity with GYZ, grinding his teeth*: peachy

GSJ *worried the poor man would combust from constant sneezing*: didi has been working nonstop for last few days, he should rest.

ZYC stands at the clear dismissal and makes his way out, but trips very noisely in the way on a side table. GSJ makes a valiant effort to ignore this, while SGQ stares in blatant fascination.

Embarrassed, ZYC stands up and finally makes his way to the door, only to slam in it at the very end with a force that rattles everything in the room. SGQ is unable to hold her flinch back, still very fascinated at this rare clumsiness. GSJ only sighs.

"I should escort him back, maybe he is too sick."

SGQ is way too fascinated to stop him. He makes his way to his didi, and grabs his arm and leads him out.

Few moments later, a splash sound rings out, followed by a muttered question from GSJ about where the puddle of water came from despite not raining for few days. It was almost drowned out by a frustrated growl.

The man would have raged at his own disgrace for falling against his Shidi and accidentally kissing him. However, Shen Qingqiu's mind was imprisoned by the tingling sensation that spread around his mouth, followed by a strong sugary flavor. He was, oh so, so dazed that he didn't react when Shang Qinghua abruptly shoved him away, with enough force to make Shen Qingqiu join the floor of his bamboo house.

This time, the Lord of An Dang Peak shouted so loud it cracked his voice, like a discordant instrument; " I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! " Shang Qinghua then shrieked, throwing all that he had been transporting; a scroll landed indolently on Shen Qingqiu's head, unfolding halfway. The coward didn't linger, running away in the exact manner he had come in the first place, blabbering continuously 'i'm sorry', until he couldn't be heard anymore.

This stunned stillness remained like chains all over Shen Qingqiu's figure, going loose after the vibrations of Qing Jing's barrier told of Shang Qinghua's complete departure.

Slowly, Shen Qingqiu pushed away the scroll lying above his cranium, noise swallowed by the mass of his robes' fabric. His tongue glided over his lips, catching the faint taste there. All the man could think about was that Shang Qinghua's lips had tasted like honey: sweet and earthy. It has been a brief caress, hardly what could be called a kiss; yet it had been enough, it had been as if Shen Qingqiu had osculated a flower and sucked its nectar. Harem Shen Jiu idea!!

Shen Jiu being taken in by a madam of a prominent house. Raised as a daughter and treated like a pretty trophy by the sons and husband of the house. Of course she knows SJ is a boy but for his safety they team up to make everyone think he’s a beautiful girl.

YQY never stopped searching for Xiao Jiu. From peak to peak he’d follow his Shizun everywhere to search and caught sight of pale skin and pretty green eyes. A veil around the lower half of the face and neck. Those sharp calculatrice eyes were his Xiao Jiu!! What did these kids mean by young mistresses Fei??

LQG was curious. The only person strong enough to fight him was hellbent on the hunt for some boy. Was it a boy? Whomever Xiao Jiu was, they were a nuisance to LQG. Or so he thought until he found himself on his butt with a fan to his throat. A very angry little miss scowling at him. Maybe YQY was right about Xiao Jiu being one of a kind…

MBJ stumbled onto the young mistress by accident. He was still young and his uncle had thrown him to the humans as a way of trying to kill him. Instead he finds himself in the arms of a worried youngster. Being checked for temperature and he feels warm??? A human made such a strong impact that this mobei strives to get stronger and spirit them away.

LBH is absolutely feral when he gets to the sect and SJ isn’t there. How dare his shizun avoid consequences of another life entirely?? Oh?? But who’s this pretty cultivator that graces the peaks once every blue moon? His shizun?? Such beauty and grace!? He knew SQQ was beautiful, ethereal really, but to see him actually sociable and showing off his beauty. It was astounding! Mind boggling!! LBH becomes obsessed with this shizun. A shizun that never learned from CQMS. He will unite the lands and make SJ his one and only ethereal empress!!

SQH just wants to simp in peace! This is his second reincarnation but somehow he’s stuck with LBG from his money grabbing plot and is mortified when MBJ demands he keep a close eye on the cultivating worlds rare beauty!! His king wants to marry his princess!? Ah… but they would make pretty babies… maybe SQH should hint at that next time MBJ receives a report.

Gyx is the worlds luckiest disciple. SJ took interest in him and offers to claim him as his own disciple, like mother like son. He develops a close bond with his new shizun. Trailing after the cold beauty and doing everything to the best of his ability. (LBH is seething) tea time with SJ is nice and calm when GYX is around. No crusty men vying for his affections. The local strays and kids also tag along to enjoy tea and snacks!

SJ getting a harem simply because they learn his personality and not assume things. LBG fighting for his life to get close to SJ. MBJ happily bridesnatches to be at least one of the first three husbands!

I did finally manage to write 3k of a Shen Jiu / Shang Qinghua fic, because I am determined to write at least one for them. It's just the beginning of a story and nowhere close to done. I'm still trying to figure out their dynamic: how they speak to each other, what they see in each other, and so on.

So far the vibe is somewhere between angst and humor? Both at once? Shen Jiu is sooo resistant to other people in his space and his backstory is so full of spikes. They're talking about sex the entire time and the conversation is so, SO unsexy (intentional) and it's very funny to me.

I was wondering how you feel about the ship Shen Jiu x Shang Qinghua? The update to hey share the weight a little got me thinking about the ship.

I like it. I even have a Shangjiu tag (https://tossawary.tumblr.com/tagged/shangjiu). (I have also seen their ship called Jiuplane.) I am trembling with either sickness (I am currently a little sick) or determination to write a Shangjiu fic at some point. Villain/Villain relationship in the funniest, messiest way possible.

This made me think about a new Shangjiu fic idea in which Shang Qinghua decides to seduce Original Shen Qingqiu in order to distract him from making a lifelong enemy of the young protagonist and set Luo Binghe on the path to destroy them all. It's kind of a spur of the moment bad decision! (Probably partially motivated by spite over something to do with Mobei-Jun. And maybe some liquid courage.) But why not shoot his shot?! It'll be funny! He is not expecting it to work. (It probably works because Shen Jiu is probably partially motivated by spite over something to do with Yue Qingyuan.) It is not a healthy decision for anyone.

Shang Qinghua is now in the horrifically awkward position of dealing with 1) hiding this from Mobei-Jun, 2) keeping it together in front of a depressed but reluctantly accepting Yue Qingyuan, 3) being some sort of Shizun's boyfriend figure (step-dad is a step too far) to Luo Binghe, and 4) dating(???) Original Shen Qingqiu. This is going to end so badly! If everyone lives, they're definitely going to be really angry with him! But y'know, Shen Qingqiu is scary hot and it's not like Shang Qinghua has anything else going for him right now.

In regards to Shangjiu, why Original Shen Qingqiu could appeal to Shang Qinghua is more immediately obvious. He’s a tall, gorgeous, icy asshole with his own flavor of abandonment and trust issues. That’s kind of Shang Qinghua’s type. (Shen Qingqiu probably has some beef under those fancy robes, being an accomplished cultivator, though I don’t imagine him being anywhere near as incredibly built and heavy as Mobei-Jun. Mobei-Jun has beef beef.) 

So, it’s like, okay, why would Shang Qinghua ever appeal to Original Shen Qingqiu? Shang Qinghua is more average-looking as far as cultivators go and, more importantly, he’s a fucking clown. 

But you could ask that question about Mobei-Jun too. Why would Shang Qinghua ever appeal to Mobei-Jun? And I think the answer is actually pretty similar. Not exactly the same, of course, because Mobei-Jun and Original Shen Qingqiu are pretty different, but still remarkably similar: I think that it’s in part because Shang Qinghua is a fucking clown. 

Shang Qinghua has no issue with looking or acting pathetic. He will wail and sob and beg at a moment’s notice. (Which actually comes back to that “Shang Qinghua and Luo Binghe are... the same...” rant I’m still brewing. Neither of them seem all that bothered by humiliation. They have their own sense of internal worth/superiority and have no issue embarrassing themselves to manipulate other people and get what they want. Time to cry like a bitch? Bro, you’re making me do this; it doesn’t have to be this way! Airplane Bro just doesn’t have the super OP protagonist powers as backup for that.) 

Mobei-Jun and Shen Jiu are, especially by comparison, extremely concerned with appearances and specifically with appearing dignified. I think to some extent they would both actually envy Shang Qinghua’s ability to disregard (ignorance, sometimes? But also he doesn’t really give a shit) for social norms and/or expectations. Shang Qinghua has no room to judge Shen Jiu when he’s behaving like that, which kind of makes him safe. 

You know that hilarious 1999 Toyota Corolla Craigslist post? That’s kind of Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky in this situation. 

This car's got history. It's seen some shit. People have done straight things in this car. People have done gay things in this car. It's not going to judge you like a fucking Volkswagen would.

Shang Qinghua isn’t going to judge you like fucking Yue Qingyuan and Liu Qingge other people would. Shang Qinghua is like a judgement-free zone to some extent. He’s safe. You could embarrass yourself in front of him and it’s fine because Shang Qinghua is going to shove his foot into his mouth immediately afterward and allow himself to be bullied into “forgetting” it ever happened. 

At the same time, Shang Qinghua clown act is pretty clearly at least partially an act, at least if his terrible muttering habit and occasional bouts of spectacular competence are anything to go by. If Shang Qinghua was a 100% genuine fool instead of a clown putting on a show (who is occasionally a genuine fool), then Shen Jiu (and Mobei-Jun) wouldn’t be able to respect him. 

Shang Qinghua can also be a straight-up bitch, a bastard, and an asshole. (I still hold the headcanon that Mobei-Jun honestly thinks Shang Qinghua is very funny.) Shang Qinghua can have a sharp tongue sometimes and bite back viciously - or at least bark back viciously - which is another thing Shen Jiu can probably respect. Shang Qinghua doesn’t put on airs about being better than anyone or noble and righteous. He talks shit properly. 

Shang Qinghua is also pretty reliable. He’s steady and supportive. He’s also cool with laying on the flattery to soothe any fragile egos! And he’s apparently cool with being bossed around and rescued! 

So, on that post where I was talking about Shang Qinghua seducing Shen Jiu through stories of bad or comedically disastrous sex stories for my Shangjiu Friends with Benefits AU, why would Shen Jiu find that appealing?! 

It’s because Shang Qinghua is clearly observant, wryly funny, knows a lot about sex, uninterested in romance, and also uninterested in pushing his partner around in an unpleasant way. (I think Shang Qinghua and Luo Binghe both like being in control of the situation, but that they also don’t mind giving up control or giving over at least some control to their partners.) Also, clearly, Shang Qinghua is desperate and pathetic and has low standards, which makes him “safe” for someone looking for some no-strings experimentation and relief. 

He’s also not... not cute? 

Also, he’s the one who brought up all those sexual acts in great detail - incredibly graphic detail - so now they’re stuck in Shen Jiu’s head. 

Shang Qinghua needs to take responsibility for that. And then tell no one that this ever happened - anyway, no one will ever believe him and also Shen Jiu will kill him. If it’s bad, Shen Jiu can also just kill him. 

Shang Qinghua: (internally) “Note to self: bro, stop getting hung up on beautiful assholes who are incredibly mean to me.”

I just realized that in the PINTWILF universe, there is actual ShangJiu RPF written by the legendary Liu Su Mian Hua. I don't know what to do with this cursed knowledge.

It is so funny to think about. What's even funnier to me is that Shen Yuan is friends with Liu Mingyan through Luo Fanli, so there is a very high chance that Shen Yuan is not only aware that this ShangJiu RPF exists, but that he's read some of it.

(Binghe may or may not be aware of this, depending on whether or not the older kids decided he was Too Baby to be let in on these things. Also, depending on whether or not Luo Fanli wanted to make her nephew suffer or was bribed into silence.)

Shangjiu- A Friend Like Me? How would the conflict resolve between them?

The current outline for that fic universe is that it wouldn't. To first get to the breakup, I would have to write the friendship and romantic relationship first. My current plan is to write their first meeting that actually makes them friendly towards each other as a one shot and see how my inspiration to continue goes from there.

I think that their friendship will spark through, of all things, bad sex stories. I think it would be funny to write an Airplane Bro who is absolutely not a virgin. He has had quite a lot of sex, actually! (At least in his past life. He hasn't hooked up with anyone in this life yet because everyone his age (he's 19-ish now) has looked like babies to him. It's fucking weird.) Except... the majority of the sex that Airplane Bro had in his past life was either 1) not good or 2) was pretty good, but went disastrously wrong in some horrifyingly comedic way.

Shang Qinghua starts talking about this as a "see? I'm not a threat!" distraction topic, and then just keeps talking to get his woes out. Shen Jiu is horrified but fascinated.

And, yeah, Shen Jiu still decides to sleep with him after that.

Shen Jiu, apparently: "This man is pathetic. I can't not fuck him."

Scum Villain Sticker: Shen Qingqiu (Shen Jiu) and Shang Qinghua from my fic “pride is not the word I’m looking for”. I’m a fan of a Shen Qingqiu who looks like a villain; even in universes where he’s being less of a scumbag, he still looks like he has evil schemes going on because his face is like that. Also, I really like the yellow robes look on Shang Qinghua. The contrasts are fun. 

Anyway, they’re not standing close together because they’re anything like friends in any way! No way! They’re just standing close to each other and talking shit about other people at a cultivation conference for other reasons. (And accidentally giving the disciples more “proof” that Shangjiu is real!!!)
