i love that every time any character uses a phone it's like, actually them using a phone like they all have their own banged up phones with their own wallpapers and contact names for everyone and you can actually see the call/hang up/etc when they're on call and the phone menu when they have to do anything.. like it's not a big detail but there's like basically no media out there that actually does smartphones well it's always either shit greenscreen or pre edited menus that look like they were made by someone who's never seen a smartphone in their life

Let’s just be honest—The Umbrella Academy was essentially cancelled after Season 3, but given the massive fandom, Netflix gave them the chance to wrap up the story with a final season. It’s similar to what happened with Shadowhunters—it was cancelled, but after the outcry from fans, they were given two more episodes to tie things up.

For me, the first two seasons were masterpieces. They truly became my comfort show and introduced me to my comfort characters. This might sound cheesy, but it’s true—when the first season aired, I was going through a rough time in my life, and I held on to this show like my life depended on it. Season 2 arrived amidst the pandemic, and it was a light in the darkness for me as well. Even with the massive success of Season 2, I think Netflix hesitated to greenlight another season. I remember waiting for an announcement, and it felt like it took forever.

Season 3 was filmed during the pandemic, and if I recall correctly, Netflix cut the budget for visual effects. So, the season didn’t quite live up to the expectations set by Season 2. Regardless of its flaws, I enjoyed it, but I would have enjoyed it more if the writing hadn’t been so sloppy and, at times, cheesy.

But this last season? It feels like fanservice—and not even good fanservice. For example, the Lila and Five thing? The enhanced powers? The Jennifer Incident? All of it fell flat. Klaus’s storyline this season was basically what I wanted to see in Season 3, but it was delivered too late and added nothing meaningful to the plot.

But was the main plot really supposed to be about Jennifer? Who cares about introducing a new character in the final season instead of focusing on saying goodbye to the beloved main characters?

The subplots were boring. Klaus’s storyline was fanservice, but it felt like they just threw us a bone to appease years of fans asking for Klaus to get his comic powers. And it was insulting. Ben and Jennifer in love? Unrealistic and boring. The train station? Who came up with that cheap idea? I thought it would be a place built by Reggie, but there was no explanation at all.

The apocalypse no longer feels exciting or even important. There’s no sense of urgency anymore.

The family dynamics—the strongest part of this show—felt odd and weak. Pairing Viktor with Reginald was boring. Lila and Diego’s drama? Nonsense. And what was the point of Claire? I thought she would be the main conflict of the season, with everyone banding together to save a character we’ve known since Season 1, who has emotional ties to every Umbrella.

And where were the villains? To make it as interesting as Seasons 1 and 2, you need a great antagonist. Like Hazel and Cha-Cha, The Handler, Reginald, or even an antihero like the Sparrows, Harlan, or the Commission. Why not make Abigail the greatest threat? Or bring back some of the former villains?

What about resolving old family drama, so that if the show’s end was going to be the family sacrificing themselves, they could all go in peace?

Instead, they didn’t address Allison’s betrayal at all. They created a huge rift between Five and Diego. Nothing for Klaus and Ben. No Umbrella Ben. No Sloane. Why is Lila even here anymore? Why didn’t she just ditch out like Ray and leave Diego with the kids to be a single dad? That would’ve made more sense coming from Lila than from Ray, to be honest.

For me, the writers, producers, and directors knew this show was cancelled, so they didn’t even try anymore. For me, the ending of season 3 was meant to be the ending of the show.

I watched Game of Thrones after it ended, so I didn’t experience the same level of rage, disappointment, and betrayal that fans felt. But now, I do.

An Eternity

(minor spoilers for 3x12)

Magnus pours his fourth drink of the evening and laughs. Wine sloshes around inside the glass, occasionally catching the light in a bright glint of red. The earthy aroma fills his nose and he chases it with a long swallow, savoring the burst of flavor on his tongue. He may have lost his magic but his wine cellar is as impressive as ever.

If Ragnor was still alive, he’d be berating Magnus for wasting a fifty-year-old vintage on a dramatic mope.

“It’s not wasting if I drink it all,” Magnus says, waving around the empty bottle for emphasis, “Besides, I find it rather appropriate. Fifty years old, and I have fifty years left.”

There’s no response, not that Magnus expects one. Except for him, the room is empty.

He places the bottle back down. There’s a ring of red on the side table where, over the course of the evening, the wine has dripped from the neck of the bottle and pooled onto the surface. It’s hardly a problem. He’ll just—

No. He won’t. Magnus puts his free hand back in lap. He doesn’t even remember raising it in the first place.

“Better get used to it,” he tells his newly filled wine glass. The wine doesn’t answer, which is a shame. Magnus has been told he’s an excellent conversationalist.

In this new life, if he wants stains gone, he has to do it with his hands. He wiggles his fingers in front of his face, liking the way the red of his nails matches his drink. The fresh manicure is courtesy of the salon down the street. He has a standing appointment now, in the Wednesday afternoon slot he used to reserve for walk-in clients. Coincidentally, his afternoons have been freed up recently.

If he can’t clean the table, he decides on a whim, he’ll simply buy a new one. The good thing about being a warlock is that he’s had centuries to acquire wealth. He grimaces into his drink and brings it back to his lips for a long swallow.

Right. Not a warlock. Not anymore. How easy it is to forget. He eyes the glass in his hand and allows that perhaps his forgetfulness isn’t all his fault. Wine is a fickle friend.

He amends his earlier statement. As a former warlock and current business owner, he has money to burn. He can buy a new table every time he opens a new bottle of wine if he so pleases. The thought of redecorating, even something as small as a side table, soothes something in his chest. He’ll order one tomorrow.

The internet is a fabulous thing, If Magnus is going to die in this era, at least it’s one that values convenience.

Unbidden, his eyes drift towards the space that used to house his apothecary workstation, now standing empty in the evening light. Last week, a lovely warlock of unremarkable power who ran a shop on Staten Island had paid him a visit. When she left, a chunk of Magnus’ life left with her. It had taken him centuries to accumulate such a varied stock of ingredients and it was gone just as quickly. Donated to good cause.

Magnus has always been a pillar of the community, even when he’s no longer part of the community.

His laugh sounds brittle, even to his own ears.

Alec’s words ring in his ears, a reassurance that half a century is plenty of time. Magnus had scoffed at him then, even if he hadn’t done it openly. Half a century is nothing. Magnus has held grudges for longer than that without even trying. There are still people who owe him money for longer than Alec’s entire family has been alive.

But Magnus hasn’t lived this long without being able to admit when he’s wrong. Without magic, everything takes longer, everything goes slower, everything is harder.

“To the next fifty years.” He raises his glass to empty air and drinks again.

Fifty years is an eyeblink.

Fifty years without his magic sounds like an eternity.

1. Parker and Hardison - Leverage

The absolute sweetest couple maybe ever. The way Hardison just... loves Parker, without ultimatums or impatience. Just there once she's ready to meet his feelings with her own. And Parker, knowing she's developed feelings for... 'pretzels' and admitting it in the only way she can initially. So good.

You give me two amoral queens, have them be evil and immortal, and have them fall in love? I was a goner from the word go. Giving them a sci-fi kid just added fuel to the fire.

Talk about ripping out my heart. In a story built around two people more trapped by fate than anyone, they save each other by doing the one thing fate has no say over.

(I usually prefer my romances to be the B and C plots, but these two? They are the exception that proves the rule. This whole show is their love story and I was spellbound for 36 episodes straight).

8. Shawn and Jules - Psych

So. Much. Pining. And the inclusion of the cruelest 'I love you' known to man, because who doesn't love a good 'I've been shot, and the guy who shot me just let me call my girlfriend but I'm using the call to give out clues about how to find me, so I'm pretending you're Abigail, but he's listening and he wants me to tell you that I love you and I know... think... suspect... that saying it will hurt you, but I don't have a choice and I'm so sorry'.

9. Nikita and Michael - Nikita

They both know what it feels like to lose someone you love. Which is why the way them kinda having at least a scene a season where one of them thinks the other just got killed is brutal. But I live for the looks on their faces when they figure out they're wrong.

10. Korra and Asami - Legend of Korra

What's more fun than falling in love with the ex boyfriend's ex girlfriend? Nothing. They got me to stand up and pay attention right quick once I realized where this was going (and the finale was how I started watching reaction videos... it made me so happy watching everyone else cry, cheer and squee too)

Pointing out every single mistake in the Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments show, season 1, episode 1- The Mortal Cup

It's finally happening. I'm going to watch the Shadowhunters show for the first time, and point out every single time the show strayed from the books. This is part1/???

This will be a wild ride.

-Isabelle does not wear wigs

-That's not how runes work; you don't just draw them once and activate them, you have to draw them every time.

-The demon they are after isn't a shape-shifter

-That is not how Jace and Clary met; in the books they met in a small supply closet inside the Pandemonium.

-Clary is already a student in the art academy; she doesn't need to get accepted

-The book doesn't start on Clary's 18th birthday; it is a little while before her 16th birthday.

-Maureen isn't Simon's singing buddy. He is in a band with a few of his friends- Eric, Kirk and Matt. Maureen is Eric's little cousin who has a massive crush on Simon.

-Jocelyn did not give Clary a Stele

-Clary was much younger when Jocelyn had Magnus remove her memories

-Luke is not black, nor is he a police officer. He runs a book store

-And Simon doesn't have a gig at the start of the book; he and Clary go to the Pandemonium just because

-That is not how seraph blades work; you have to whisper the name of an angel to them

-Isabelle doesn't dress like a stripper. She wears a white dress at the start of the book.

-Alec isn't the one who is a Shakespear enthusiast; that's Jace

-There is no technology at the Institute at all. Shadowhunters are very against modernity.

-There is no big deal of demons draining the blood of mundanes. Alec, Isabelle and Jace go hunting because that's just their job.

-The Pandemonium is not Magnus's club; they mixed that part with his cat's birthday party later on

-Isabelle is rarely called 'Izzy' in the books; she is more often referred to by her full first name

-Isabelle also doesn't bait like 10 demons by dancing like a stripper; she baits one demon, because there is only one demon, by just being completely beautiful.

-Isabelle's whip is golden, and also doesn't have any electrical abilities

-The battle wasn't so epic in the book. They got the demon into a supply closet and that's where Clary found them. The demon then attacks Jace while he is distracted speaking to Clary, and then Isabelle and Jace kill him together.

-Jace didn't care whether Clary was injured or not, he was more focused on finding out how she can see them

-Clary doesn't just run off after the whole ordeal; she stays and tries to get a cab with Simon

-Jocelyn doesn't just hide her runes; they're there, Clary just can't see them because of Magnus's magic. Simon mentions them once, referring to them as 'thin white scars'. Clary thinks he is imagining.

-Nothing dramatic happened when Clary came home; Jocelyn scolds her, and the next morning she and Luke inform Clary that they are going on a vacation in Luke's farm house. Simon then comes and takes her out to eat, and watch Eric read 'poetry'.

This is much harder than I thought, and it takes forever to fact-check everything in the books. I will make a part 2 if this one gets enough positive feedback!

Okay so 👀 I will say after a rewatch of the last three episodes when I was in a better headspace that I think the finale has grown on me a bit more. I 100% think this season needed two more episodes to flesh stuff out more, but I can see where the writers were going and I respect it.

I defend her every single decision, so I'M CERTAINLY not a hater, I've been promoting her books way more than her "promotion bloggers".
