Hey I know you try to keep Penders stuff contained on main, but I still think you should see this because it's very funny https://kenpenders.com/the-true-origin-of-edmund-dmitri/ He's considering retconning Edmund and Dimitri to not be brothers in the "upcoming" reprint collection so that Knuckles and Julie-Su won't be cousins, and crowdsourcing the decision-making process.
SHOULD MY STORY CONTAIN INCEST? VOTE NOW ON YOUR PHONES
My favorite parts of this post:
The long-winded preamble about the Star Wars special editions and the Star Trek remasters before he gets to the actual point of the post
The reveal that Mike Kanterovich named Edmund and Dimitri, the two most pivotal figures in Ken's echidna lore, after some twins from All My Children
The fact that the commenters seem to be split 50/50 on whether or not he should keep the distant cousin incest

There's no actual wait to Peach being Daisy's cousin, that's from a strategy guide for Mario Kart Wii that Nintendo has never confirmed anything about and is likely just flat-out wrong.
What a shame.

I'm not really sure I get your response to the Sonic ending ask. Sonic as a franchise won't end, but the ask seems to be about its offshoots, which tend to either conclude or be cancelled before they can. Wouldn't it stand that crafting an ending is better than letting it die unresolved?
i was originally going to address the different adaptations of sonic in that ask before reading over it again and deciding that the person worded it in a way that made it sound, to me, like they were asking about a scenario where someone got to write a hypothetical ending for All Of Sonic in some form (but the franchise still continued on anyway). this seemed implied by the fact that they singled out the idw series, which is just an extension of the game canon - and, again, is designed to continue forever with no Definitive Ending being worked towards
either way, most prior adaptations of sonic either: 1) already have some semblance of a series finale (satAM, sonic x, boom, StC), 2) were cut short but, like the games, were designed to never end (both versions of archie), or 3) were cut short but i just don't give a shit (underground). so there just isn't a version of sonic where i have a dream ending in mind

I checked TKP and not found anything, have you ever spoken much about Adventures of Sonic? I've been rewatching for my own notes and BOY does it give me opinions
i haven't watched all that much of it since i was a kid, but i've watched an episode or two here and there. i think it's a pretty average early '90s looney tunes wannabe (very typical of that era) enhanced by the fact that it now reminds me of youtube poops, which makes me smile fondly like i'm remembering an old friend

I'm looking through some old comics. I think Jay Oliveras is the infamous Many Hands penciller. Not only did he write the infamous #113, he drew the fourth story of Super Special #8 in nearly the exact same awful style.
This has actually come up before, but it’s fun to speculate, so it’s worth talking about again. There’s definitely a strong resemblance to the Many Hands style there
Tumblr media
Given the pseudonym it’s possible it was Oliveras and at least one other artist. It’s been suggested that Gabrie was involved given the look of his art on the Off Panel, so it’s possible it was a tag team of those two rushing to fill page space. It’s also worth noting that both this and issue #113 are adaptations of random SatAM episodes printed as filler
However, here’s where things get complicated: Jay Oliveras? He might not actually exist
I can’t find evidence that this mysterious backup inker worked on any comics aside from Sonic issues #45 and #113, Sonic Super Special #8, the Sonic Quest miniseries, and, oddly, Archie’s Street Sharks miniseries from 1996. I actually can’t find anything about this guy aside from this list of credits. Where was he before and after this? Comic artists don’t just appear out of thin air, right?
But there’s one thread connecting all of the issues he worked on across Sonic and Street Sharks. Every single one was edited by our old nemesis, Justin Gabrie. And it’s been suggested before that Jay Oliveras is just a pseudonym for Gabrie. So, in other words, this is just more evidence towards the theory that Gabrie was at least partially responsible for the Many Hands art. (This also wouldn’t be the first time that a Sonic editor used a pseudonym to get away with filling other roles. Former editor Scott Fulop infamously published his own stories under the name Kent Taylor, giving us characters like Mammoth Mogul, the Fearsome Foursome, Sir Connery, and Merlin Prower.)
It’s also interesting to note that Gabrie is believed by many fans to be the real identity of mysterious writer and Tommy Turtle creator Romy Chacon. That’s three different pseudonyms for one editor! And, sure enough, there’s no overlap between the periods where “Jay Oliveras” and “Romy Chacon” worked on the series, with Chacon first appearing four issues after the final Oliveras issue. It’s quite possible that Gabrie just switched pseudonyms. It’s also possible that this is all completely wrong and is just a crazy conspiracy theory about an old licensed comic series for children, but it does make some amount of sense. Pretty much all of these stories from Many Hands, Oliveras, and Chacon were either rushed issues or obvious filler, or both. Oliveras gave us random SatAM adaptations to hastily fill page space, and Chacon gave us inventory stories that could’ve easily been slotted in anywhere. It’s quite possible that this was all just the result of an editor struggling to manage his creative team and needing to find some other way to fill page space

actually i think kenny pendies chicken tendies tried to claim matilda, having mentioned mighty had a sister in one of his comics
Okay so I’ve gotten like five separate asks about this. There was, in fact, one single line in Sonic #120 where Mighty mentions that his mom, dad, and sister were captured by Robotnik. But that’s it. For the billionth time, I’m not a copyright expert, so I don’t know if that’s enough for Ken to actually claim ownership of the character, but I kinda doubt it
That being said, I do think it could be enough for him to try to claim ownership, knowing what he’s like. But I also can’t find a single mention of Matilda (or Mighty or his family at all) on his Twitter, and Matilda isn’t listed as one of the characters permanently removed after the lawsuits on the wiki. I know that’s not conclusive, but I can’t find any evidence that he’s tried to claim ownership of Matilda–or that he even knows she exists
But yeah, even the vague possibility that Ken could sue again is probably enough to keep Matilda out of future stories, unfortunately. Maybe if they removed her relation to Mighty AND changed her name she’d be safe? So they could legally claim that she wasn’t the exact same character? I dunno. I wouldn’t count on it (Ian’s still having a hard time getting Sega to allow him to use the Freedom Fighters, let alone minor Archie characters), but nothing’s impossible I guess

I always cite this as Ron Lim's best-looking story. The proportions are still lanky, but there's nothing majorly wrong, wrinkly or gross about anyone's face or hair. I dunno if he was just better at drawing Shadow, or what.
Yeah, Lim’s art is definitely looking better in this issue. It was also pretty decent in the Tommy Turtle story he drew a handful of issues ago. Still a few weird mono-eye panels, but not nearly as many as we’re used to. I dunno if he made a conscious effort to improve his Sonic art, or if him working on the series less often just meant he wasn’t rushing his art anymore, or what

If you're gonna play SA1PC I heavily recommend the Dreamcast Conversion mod, if you don't already know about it. SADX is genuinely kind of an awful port and stuff like this improves the experience greatly.
Way ahead of you! I already installed it last night
