HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET:   We met on a dating website

WEDDING THEME:   Funky boho, shabby chic

THE WEDDING DAY:

Being artists, portraiture and Professional DJ we wanted our wedding to be traditional but with a hint of our vibrant personalities (and my hair) and creative flair.  Our skills enabled us to do everything ourselves from the invites, personalised sweetbar, cake, to the flowers and all the personal touches that made our day so perfect and special.

Our colour palette was inspired by the approaching autumnal colours and we were blessed with perfect weather which added to the vibrancy of the day.  We wanted it to be a happy, relaxed and fun affair and I think we achieved that while still retaining the traditional values of a church wedding.

Essentially we wanted a wedding people would remember, laugh and smile about for years to come, something a little bit outside the box.  It’s a day we will never forget and I think that is because it was a DIY wedding.

TIPS FOR FUTURE BADASS BRIDES:

Always negotiate with the venue. We had a cake of cheese with crackers,

( homemade food ) instead of an evening buffet saving £1500 and didn’t have tea/coffee saving £230

Doing your own flowers is easier than you think and I made 5 bouquets, 5 button holes, 9 flower arrangments, high low top table and 2 x pedestals for £300 probably saving £600.

Don’t bother with hiring cars, ask around and see if you have a friend with a nice set of wheels you can borrow.  Save you 100’s

Don’t bother hiring men’s suits, we just asked the groomsmen to wear a dark grey suit and it looked great saved £500

When you have a food tasting, take a picture of the food as it is presented and send to the venue a few days before…as we found different chefs interpret menu selections in different ways!

Timothy and Lillian Raeck’s Badass Wedding

THE WEDDING DAY:

Tymo had the idea of getting married on the gorgeous Catalina Island. It was one of his best ideas. Doing this, however, turned our wedding into a destination wedding so our close friends (who were able) went over with us and spent the weekend on Avalon. When we arrived we met with the Mayor, who also performed our ceremony, and she took us to Buena Vista Point. It was breath taking and the perfect place for the ceremony over looking the ocean. In the 1920s, there was a tea house that was there but all that is left now are steps, this arch way and some ruins of the building. It was perfect.

We said our vows as the sunset and made our way to the Lobster Shack to eat then off to the Tiki Bar where we danced the night away! That weekend was the best weekend of our lives. We couldn’t have planned it any better!HOW AND WHERE DID YOU MEET:

We met at a mutual friends house. He was outside having a smoke and I asked if he had an extra. We started talking and have been inseparable ever since.

TIPS FOR FUTURE BADASS BRIDES:

You don’t need to have a large wedding to have fun. We had a small group of close friends and it was the time of our lives!

Its fun to make your own flowers, table pieces, etc. You can show your own personality and it saves you so much money.

Don’t panic if something goes wrong the day or week of the wedding! ALWAYS HAVE A COUPLE BACK UP PLANS!

If you can….do a destination wedding…it’s so much fun and you get a small vaca out of it 😉

Remember this is your big day and you should have fun planning it.

THE WEDDING DAY:

The weather was perfect, the venue was perfect, everything was perfect! Originally, we had planned an entirely different wedding, but I called that one off because wedding planning is supposed to be fun and it was becoming anything but fun. Soon after, we discovered the Neon Museum and I fell in love right away. The museum fit our artistic style perfectly. It took a little convincing for our families to go to Las Vegas, but the idea grew on them and ultimately, we had a few very close family members stand with us. Seeing as not many people could join us, I had a friend of mine make my bouquet. It was made of brooches bought by friends, given to me by family, and ones I just loved; so I had a little piece of everyone with me on my special day. I wanted to make the day as simple and stress-free as possible, so the biggest obstacle was trying to combine my unique style with Stratton’s desire to have a traditional wedding. I walked down the aisle to “Star” by HELLYEAH and I am proud to say we were the first heavy metal wedding the minister had performed! Though, we did incorporate some traditional elements with the vows and the ceremony as a compromise. Our wedding day concluded with a gorgeous dinner provided by my mother-in-law and stepfather-in-law at the top of the Stratosphere hotel—the views of Las Vegas were stunning! Our reception dinner was topped off by our cake, which true to our style, was decorated with a zombie cake topper. Overall, I could not have asked for a better or more perfect wedding. It was the best day ever!
