Hello again! I hope you don't mind. What's your opinion on Azure Lion, and the Brotherhood? You said they were a toxic group, can you explain how and why? I am very dense. Also have you watched the newest Monkey King movie? What do you think of it? Are there any part of JTTW or Sun Wukong's story you'd like to see be made into a movie that doesn't get much attention? Not LMK verse of course. I'd like to see Ao Lie, the White Dragon Horse's story get expanded on, especially when the group encounter the Dragon family during their journey. What about you? What's your opnion on LBD's host, or Bai He as the fans are calling her? Would you like an interaction between her and SWK? Have a good month!
ok imma save your brotherhood question for last because once i start with them and swk's relationship with them, i will not stop.
anyway,
no, i haven't seen the new Monkey King movie yet T^T i hope to see it soon when i have free time, but uni's began, so i will be busy with assignments T^T goodbye summer vacation :'(
as for what jttw story i'd like to see more of? hmmmmm, idk, though tbh i am very new with any jttw interpretation (my introduction to this story was through OSP, and after seeing the sun&moon poll i decided to check out lmk), so my personal information is still small compared to the people who grew up with the many stories and variations of Journey to the West and its characters.
however, i kind of wanna say Sha Wujing/Sandy? mostly because he does seem like an interesting character (2nd strongest out of the companions if i'm remembering right), and is fairly clever with his fighting (which might be why he gets along with swk a lot). idk, it would be fun to get some background on how he acquired his skull necklace (pretty sure they were enemies of his???? or something idk) and his own motivations for redemption, not to mention he does become a Bodhisattva just like swk and Tripitaka (pretty Pigsy/Zhu Baije doesn't???), so that would be fun to touch on!
moving on now....i actually do like how the fandom just adopted :BD's host and we all affectionately call her Bai He! it's sweet and i like that we all kind of want to see her own recovery of being possessed for like months (or a year idk lmk timeline is weird and funky and no i am not annoyed-) i am a big fan of the "Macky adopts previously possessed child out of solidarity but also she latched onto him first and wouldn't let go so he's kind of stuck with her now :)" it's very fanon but, eh, i'm a sucker for "reluctant dad to protect the smol" characters (prob another reason why i love Pigsy and swk so much lmao).
ALSO, i think her interactions with swk would be so funny (for me) and awkward (for swk) because she's like "thanks for saving the world and me!" and swk like "MHM! uh yeah, sure, np kiddo" bc he did almost kill her (tho he really did try to find a way to not do that) but also Bai He might not even be mad at him for that. (maybe i want her to attempt to befriend him, but swk is just so nervous and feeling a tad guilty so he avoids her but she's a persistent little fucker, maybe i want to a lot, sue me)
idk what her role is now in the show tbh. she could be sidelined now, and we only get cameos of her (s3 ending & s4 special) for the time being just showing her slow recovery (lmk has been doing a "minor/background character development happening behind the scenes" for awhile (DBK fam) so i wouldn't be surprised if we see that with her). but it's possible that she could grow to have some role in s5 or s6 (maybe she's got some leftover LBD powers bc post-possession symptoms, maybe Mr. Hoodie Man wants to use her too bc she was such a great host for LBD, maybe she saw something plot relevant while possessed concerning MK and wants to warn him or his friend??? WHO KNOWS???)
ok.....Brotherhood™️ what are my thoughts on them......
this post is already long as is, and i have class in 30 minutes, oh boy let's go >:3
sO, let try and summarize my thoughts of them before delving in: i think that narratively, the Brotherhood are a great way for establishing who Sun Wukong was pre-jttw as well as giving us access to his history with Macky (THANK FUCKING GOD I WAS SO DESPERATE FOR THEIR BACKSTORY).
the Brotherhood is also a great way to showcase MK's growing similarities with swk and the narrative parallels the two characters have for each other. we already knew swk was trying to mentor MK is a way that was different from how swk lived his life before because, we he's shown, he really does regret his past actions, and wants MK to be a better version, believes MK can be this better version of him. and you can see him trying, but also he fails to really explain WHY his teaching methods are slow and vague sooooooo, uh oh :)
anyway, character-wise.....the Brotherhood is written to be both sympathetic and dislikable. the sympathetic aspect comes with Azure and his Cause™️ because that shows you that "wait a minute...he really did want to do good, but lost sight of it and the harm he was doing along the way." you're supposed to sympathize with him, you're supposed to feel confused about his shaky relationship with swk because "Azure only wanted to do good, yet swk ruined it" <- this is some excellent unreliable narrator shit i love about this show btw
HOWEVER! Azure is not an archetype character (lmk doesn't really do archetypes. okay, they do, BUT it's more of deconstruction of the archetype than really using an archetype, you feel me?) he is a character who is deeply flawed. he is idealistic and vain (yes, yes he is vain bc have you seen this lion????) Azure built up swk on a pedestal of what a true role model king should look like (nevermind that swk's kingdom was on a island and his subjects were just monkeys, meaning his reign was fairly small compared to Heaven, therefore more manageable BUT I DIGRESS)
basically, Azure placed so much admiration and all his ideal onto swk, who was frankly a lot younger than the celestial lion being that he would have only recently met him post-Havoc & he was only about 500-600 years old by then (maybe????), and saw the monkey more as a perfect weapon to use to defeat the Jade Emperor and start a new, "more compassionate" era.
ok, and this is just me speaking, but, Azure, honey, if you really wanted to help restart Heaven into helping out the poor humans, instead of the very flawed bureaucracy you argued against.....maybe, don't continue on with a monarchy????? idk, maybe it's the Western influence talking but Azure, if you hate the celestial lords and emperor so much, maybe create a system that DOESN'T favor the lords and emperor????? break the whole system apart and create something new???? course you didn't think that far (which was eloquently shown in the special) so i'm honestly not surprised that your mission failed so many times
anyway, the dislikable aspect! Peng is a wonderful character for this section! so, when meeting Azure, you may come to a couple conclusions: wow a pretty lion! is he trustworthy? well, he seems to really want to help out.....damn he's got quite the silvertongue there, very convincing and great orator....you seem very upset about whatever swk did to you, huh? but meeting Peng you get: ooooh pretty bird man! oh, they're kind of a bitch, aren't they? yeah, still a bitch (and depending on the viewer, bitch can be affectionate or derogatory)
but yeah, so Peng, one of Azure's brother trio who worked with him in the Celestial Court and views him as the leader of the Brotherhood rather than swk (actually, none of the brotherhood members even consider swk their leader, except Azure and maybe Macky (but that might be bc Macky does not fucking care about the brotherhood member BUT swk) bc the rest view swk as their prized weapon)
Peng is really the character that starts to make you reconsider Azure's trustworthiness because my god is this bird the most condescending and bitchiest of friends. they are that toxic friend, okay? it was because of Peng that i clocked in "oh, ok, this is high school toxicity 101, got it" lol
anyway, Peng does not really seem to care that much for...the Cause™️ like Azure and Yellow Tusk do. rather, they seem to just stick around mostly because Azure and Yellow Tusk are their brothers and that's it. i guess props for staying loyal??? but still, Peng is the character that gives us the first crack into Azure's worthy crusade because their character will resort to violence first, turns on anyone who slightly disagrees with Azure's methods (*cough cough* Mac *cough cough*) or, hm, let's say....surrenders to the Jade Emperor, is missing for 500 years, then miraculously is freed and is working with a Buddhist monk?
so yeah, uh running out of time but to sum up: Azure and the brotherhood were never really "friends" they were colleagues who though they all had a common goal to defeat Heaven but their loyalty was built on ideals and pedestals and flaky attitudes which was why Mac was never comfortable around them, why DBK stopped interacting with them after the war, and WHY swk was so easily pointed as a traitor and a villain by the Camelhead Trio.
*jazz hands* and there you go, i would say more but i have class!

do tripitaka x readers even exist??
bro is my fried morning brain trippin rn or somethin
i’m curious tho
also hey- i finally found out how to add the keep reading button on accident pog :D
while i wouldn’t actively seek out x readers of him for myself, i did notice of how i have never seen a single tripitaka x reader- like i literally tried lookin for any on like 3 sites after noticing that and haven’t seen a single one
i get that it’s probably due to him basically not being allowed to be in a relationship during the journey (or was it needing to marry before doing the deed? idk it’s 7am here and my brain just woke up) but like- this is probably the first ever well-known character i have not found a single x reader of
like there literally exists fanfics that break a lot more religious laws for characters that would never do certain things either-
would i be the first one to do a partial one would also be another question cuz there is a one-shot still in my mind- not directly a tripitaka x reader, but it does feature the topic of tang sanzang’s love interest from during the journey- and him basically feeling kinda bad
or would that be a bad idea to write- cuz it’s more of a lmk tang x reader idea with tripitaka havin more of a cameo flashback role-
wait
do jttw x readers about the rest of the team exist- i know i for sure read an ao lie x reader before, but i can’t remember a zhu bajie or sha wujing one- meanwhile for example wukong got a lot

my predictions to the season 3 of LMK
So, judging by the trailer (and the cards of character we got), here’s what I think is going to happen
again, MONKIE KID SEASON 3 SPOILERS
Both seasons started with special 40 minutes long episodes, but I’m not sure if we’re going to get one, unless they’re getting their powers back right in the beginning, which is veeery unlikely and has no reason to happen so fast.
- We’re going to the River Dragons who gave Wukong his staff in the book (very unwillingly and scared of him, I must say). I think so, because we see an underwater location in the trailer.
- If we’re actually going to the Dragons, we maaay get some more angst with Mei, like I said in my previous post. Since she didn’t feel worthy of the dragon sword and she probably doesn’t pass as a dragon, so she’ll have to prove it or smth. That’s where we get the shot of her being extremely pissed, holding the sword.
- Tang (at least) will get some powers, because we can see him glowing gold and all that jazz. He was also holding one of Nezha’s Rings, so maybe that’s the reason? But in the shot with the Scorpion Lady (tm), we can see him in some special - probably monk - attire? Maybe she mistook him for Tripotaka (I think this is how you say his name)? So, more Journey to the West references hehe
/also for god’s sake that scene where Macaque attacks Tang is literally the same as when Sun Wukong attacked Macaque in the form of MK in “Macaque”. I swear to God, they reused it just because they know how traumatised we are after that episode/
- They will visit DBK’s kingdom, duh. But it looks like the gang thought that the DBK family wasn’t there and hey, there’s a ton of food, let’s eat sooomeeeee heeey Demon Bull King long time no see hahahha. There was also PIF’s throne that she had in that one filler episode in second season where she had a cameo hehehe. So we’ll probably see the whole family back. I don’t think they will all contribute to the plot a lot, maybe for a couple of episodes or smth. But I’m glad to see Red Son back uwu
- Gonna hang out with Nezha a lot. I thought that Nezha was their final destination, but now that they showed so much scenes with him, I’m not really sure. Although it’s probably just a lot of the scenes from the final episodes + he’s very important.
- More Sandy’s backstory. Please PLEASE make my theory canon that Sandy is the actual Sha and not just MK’s version of him, PLEAAASE. Cause we see him kinda casting magic and all the skull thingies appear. God, if he does it in front of Sun Wukong, the monkey will be so freaked out, I SWEAR.
- Maybe some Sun Wukong’s and Macaque’s backstory (we WERE promised some ShadowPeach after all hahahhaa). In one of the sets (The Legendary Flower Fruit Mountain, to be specific), we can see multiple figures of Sun Wukong as well as Macaque in a very light clothing, looking pretty young. In one set. So I think we CAN get some of their story. + there is a scene with Sun Wukong in his old costume, which could also be a flashback.
- In the same set there are two random monkeys AND YES I KNOW THAT I KEEP SAYING THAT, BUT I’M PRETTY SURE THAT THOSE TWO ARE FUTURE ROGUE AND SAVAGE. IT WOULD BE VERY ANGSTY. (Also I gotta say that we don’t get any scenes with those two, which is strange. But meh, they do what they want).
- in the beginning, LBD is TOTALLY talking to Macaque, saying that (kinda, I’m not sure) “If you bring Sun Wukong and his successor back to me, I might let you go” or smth. So he’s not working for her willingly. And in his card it says that he can easily change sides/masters if it’s profitable to him. So maybe he’s like “okay, if I go against her, she’ll kill me, which I know for certain. So it’s much more safer for me to stay on her side for now and do what she says and she’ll let me go” which is probably false ahahaha don’t trust her, she’ll get rid of you as soon as she doesn’t need you, come on, Macaque.
- Well, we’re going to visit Chang’e, that we know, but I actually have no clue how she ties into the story. I like her a lot and she seems to be important (she has her own card, description, and a set), but I really don’t know how... maybe they’ll consider Jade Rabbit’s medicine/elixirs as help to defeat LBD? I really don’t know. BUT we also see a little look at the Celestial Realm (with that big lotus), so maybe she’ll lead them there??
- I see that we have a lot of important lore going on, so I don’t think we’ll have a lot of fillers, which is cool, but then we have that over-dressed Pigsy singing on a stage and I’m just losing my mind (also I’m pretty sure it’s the same episode as the one with the Scorpion Lady).
Okay, this is what I have so far. I also really hope it’s not the last season and if it is, I’m going to cry ;-;

Digimon Fusion (2010) デジモンクロスウォーズ
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Date: July 6, 2010 / November 8, 2011 Platform: iPhone / iPad / Android Developer: GREE Publisher: Bandai Namco Entertainment Genre: Card Game Theme: Fantasy Franchises: Digimon Director: Tetsuya Endo / Yukio Kaizawa Screenwriter: Riku Sanjo Starring: Minami Takayama / Chinatsu Sakamoto / Ryoko Shiraishi Genre: Animation Official website: www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/digimon_xw/ Country/Region of Production: Japan Language: Japanese Number of episodes: 79 Also known as: Young Hunters in the Digimon Fusion War-Driven Era / Digimon Collectors IMDb: tt2168479 Type: Appropriation
Summary:
Several media in the franchise are contained within their own continuity; however, they all share a similar setting and premise. For instance, most Digimon stories begin with a human child, who comes into contact with a Digimon. This generally occurs either through an accidental entrance into the so-called Digital World or an encounter with a Digimon who has come into the human world. The child or children then often find themselves equipped with a "digivice", which is a device modelled after the series' virtual pets; this device enables them to empower their partner Digimon.
While some Digimon act like wild beasts, there are many who form small societies and follow governing bodies. Digimon can change through evolution (or "digivolution" in most English-language dubs), where they absorb additional data that allows them to change forms. This process is normally linear, but there are other methods, depending upon the media within the franchise. For example, "Jogress" (a portmanteau of "joint progress"; "DNA Digivolution" in most English-language dubs) is when two or more Digimon combine into a single being. Though evolution can occur naturally, Digimon can progress into stronger forms more quickly, when they are partnered with a human.

The Gua Sha Treatment (2001) 刮痧
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Director: Zheng Xiaolong Screenwriter: Mark Byers / Wang Xiaoping / Huo Bingquan / Xue Jiahua Starring: Tony Leung Ka Fai / Jiang Wenli / Zhu Xu / Hollis Houston / Tamara Turnt / Stephanie Vogt / Joe Erke / Carter Dawson / Anthony Mullin / Marshall Fehr / Susan Fry / Mike Ketcher / Joe May / Sonny Wu / Dave Schutz Genre: Drama / Family Country/Region of Production: Mainland China Language: English/Mandarin Chinese Date: 2001-05 (Cannes Film Festival) Duration: 100 minutes Also known as: Gua Sha IMDb: tt0297928 Type: Appropriation
Summary:
Grandfather Xu (Zhu Xu) comes from China to visit the family of his son, Datong Xu (Tony Leung), a video game designer, in St. Louis. Datong has lived in the U.S. for eight years, and while receiving an award for work, remarks that he loves the United States and fulfilling his American Dream. Meanwhile, Grandfather notices his grandson has a slight fever and being unable to read English labels of medicine, gives him, Dennis Xu (Dennis Zhu), a Gua Sha treatment instead. Social workers, however, mistake the traditional Chinese medical treatment for child abuse due to the obvious marks left on Dennis' back. The life of the family is sent into turmoil when Dennis is taken away by the child protection agency. In court, the prosecution includes Datong's inclusion of a Chinese legendary character Sun Wukong (Chinese traditional: 孫悟空; simplified: 孙悟空) in his design of a violent video game. The prosecution implies that since Datong includes violence in his game, he values it.
A furious Datong insists that the prosecution does not understand the cultural value of Sun Wukong and that the icon's inclusion does not mean he abuses his son. He insists that what he does in his job does not relate to how he runs his home. Meanwhile, Grandfather Xu leaves America because he finds that the living environment is really not suitable for him, as he does not want to live in a place where a simple, harmless treatment like Gua Sha, which is so common in China, is treated as child abuse. Furthermore, he cannot converse in English. Datong's friend and lawyer, John Quinlan (Hollis Houston), tries Gua Sha and proves that the treatment leaves painful-looking marks that are not actually painful or harmful at all. Finally, Datong is able to return home and the family is reunited. This movie's story is meant to demonstrate the difference between western and Chinese culture.

Heroes of Newerth (2010)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Date: May 12, 2010 Platform: Mac / PC / Linux Developer: S2 Games, LLC / Frostburn Studios, Inc. Publisher: S2 Games, LLC Genre: MOBA Theme: Fantasy / Martial Arts / Medieval Franchises: Newerth Also known as: HoN Type: Crossover
Summary:
Heroes of Newerth is a game based on the popular Warcraft III map (mod): Defense of the Ancients or DotA. DotA's current designer, known as "IceFrog" granted permission to S2 Games to make their game in likeness to the original, adapting many of the heroes from Defense of the Ancients faithfully into the new game. The game will also feature a slew of new heroes from designers S2.
In true fashion to Defense of the Ancient's gameplay, the player chooses one hero out of dozens upon dozens of heroes to play as and manage. The hero is played in a "match" alongside other players who will all be playing different heroes. It is up to the team to co-ordinate and "push" towards and ultimately destroy the opposing base. Simply which heroes a team is composed of can sway the outcome of a game as tactics are critical from even during the lobby stage of a game.
Heroes of Newerth was released for digital download May 12th 2010 through the official website.

Which translation/adaptation of JTTW is best for beginners? Besides maybe Dragon Ball (doubt it counts)
Heh yeah I mean it’s a great anime but I don’t think you would have a good Xiyouji experience per se. Usually, I see Dragon Ball used as a gateway for people to THEN read/watch Xiyouji content but like it doesn’t really have much Xiyouji plot wise even if the characters are homages.
I would say that if you want an ACCURATE Xiyouji experience then you can choose between three shows. That being the classic 1986 which is many people's first Xiyouji experience as the cast is so iconic you see these designs in dozens of movies and their influence in future performances. The second is more family-friendly but still one of the most charming and fairly accurate portrayals is the 1999 Xiyouji animation, I would say far more younger people's first piece of media and without a doubt the best Xiyouji animation series thus far personally. That last I would suggest is 2011 Xiyouji series which is one of the more newer shows and I would say I would that if you want more modern effects and humor than this might be a preferance to the 1986 version. They both have their own charm but just depends on what you are looking for!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now while these are the most accurate there are some Xiyouji media I would still recommend even if they take far more liberties.
This without a doubt being the 1996 tv series. This is portrayed as more of a drama but between the characters and the pure HEART AND LOVE that is in this show that you will be falling in love with the characters. It vaguely follows the Xiyouji monster of the weak formula but taking far more time to humanize each enemy and having our main cast overcome not only physical obstacles but also their own emotional obstacles as well. Fantastic show. Another is Chinese Odessey (please note this is a two part movie)! This does NOT follow the journey at all instead more of an introspective of the character Wukong. This is more of comedy but this is a cult classic as one of the first romance films with Wukong to show him as more of a complex hero which was a deviation from how he was portrayed in media for years as this point. This movie is silly but it is actually very heartfelt and makes you feel for these characters's plights. If you don't know Xiyouji I would say you will be confused, but you can fall in love with these characters anyway! Whil I can't suggest Dragon Ball I can suggest another Son Goku from My Son Goku! This is a Japanese production but the animation is so fluid and the characters are not only charming but there are some heart reaching scenes in this very cute art style! I would say give this a watch if you enjoy anime but also can appreciate angst even in a cute style.

If you are looking for more just great Xiyouji movies that you can pop in and a fantastic one is the 2015 Hero is Back! This was the Wukong come back animation-wise since 1999 and a lot of people first Wukong in the big screens! Does take liberties story wise as we don't see Sha Wujing or any of the journey really, but the HEART and soul of Sun Wukong is there. Another great one is just watching the first and classic 1961 Havoc in Heaven! This was the staple of Wukong iconics for decades and even now you see this Wukong in commercials! This is just a beautiful art style and without a doubt charming and feel good vibes. This one is surprising but actually Nezha Reborn where Sun Wukong actually makes a cameo appearance, but I hear so many people got into Xiyouji just cause how much they love him. So while it's not Xiyouji I would say give it a watch if you are a die hard Sun Wukong fan.

There is also Monkey King Reborn which while less known I still think is wonderfully popular and shows both great animation and also how all three characters of Wukong, Bajie, and Wujing interact in a movie. There is also Monkey King 2 which I know that usually I would say which the first movie but honestly the second movie is my personal fav. You don't miss much without watching the first as the second starts right at the begging of the journey and we are introduced to some of the best designs for these characters in my opinion. This last one is kinda of a hit-or-miss but Conquering the Demon! This one follows Sanzang as a demon hunter in a loosely based story of him finding his disciples, each more monstrous than the last in a dark-comedy! If you enjoy Stephen Chow films then you know what kind of humor you are going to get but it is new take on Xiyouji films in a unique but still entertaining manner! They really make you feel for Sanzang as a character and one of the best humanizations of him really as a man still learning about the world himself.

There some other that are great but I would suggest more on a second watch or if you know the story more! Saiyuki / The Great Alakazam was the first eng dub saiyuki piece of media that came to the USA and still had a lasting influence with the beloved character Rinrin! There is also Monkey King 2009 that only looks at the story BEFORE the journey, adding so many elements to Wukong's childhood and his relationship with the Six Eared Macaque. I would also suggest the Monkey King Netflix Movie as while it is fast-paced it really makes you understand how dangerous but also how complex Sun Wukong is. I think it was a charming movie so give it a watch!. Last is Immortal Demon Slayer! This movie was based on a web novel that was extremely popular in the early 2000s which was based off Chinese Odessey funny enough! This is a movie I would suggest if you know Xiyouji already but it such a tragedy I have to share if you love angst.
