Free hand pen doodles studies of Tears For Fears so I can get a feel for them! 🖋
I was fighting for my life when I drew these 💀 Short haired Curt made me Suffer and I have no idea wtf is going on with the ELAHE era.
The SFTBC and SOL eras came out pretty decent tho! I def draw Roland and Curt pretty well during those times so I guess only time will tell as I keep on practicing

TEARS FOR FEARS CHALLENGE
1. How did you discover Tears For Fears?
Through their most famous song Head Over Heels, I had in my mp3 player when I was a pre-teen but really got into them when I was 16/17.Now their music resonate with me on a deeper level that I guess I had to mature a bit more to realize. I’m 22 now.
2. Your favourite song:
This is so hard! Shout is like an anthem to me and Advice for The Young at Heart kicks ass, and also Pale Shelter. Can I say them all?
3. Your least favorite song:
My least favorite? I really don’t have one, but I think the original Mad World is better then their cover, although they did a great job!
4. Your favourite album:
Songs from the Big Chair, hell yeah!
5. Your least favourite album:
Don’t really have one…
6. Your favourite member:
I love lead singers, is no secret, so Roland it is.
7. Your favourite era or lineup:
I love SFTBC era because I love guys with long or longish hair but STSOL is also sooooo nice <3
8. Your favourite song from The Hurting:
Pale Shelter
9. Your favourite Song from the Big Chair:
Head Over Heels, Shout and I Believe
10. Your favourite song from The Seeds of Love:
Advice for the Young at Heart
11. Your favourite song from Elemental:
Break it Down Again!!!
12. Your favourite song from Raoul and the Kings of Spain:
Secrets
13. Your favourite song from Everybody Loves a Happy Ending:
Ladybird and Everyboy loves a happy ending
14. Your favourite b-side or song from Saturnine Martial & Lunatic:
It’s all B sides that never got release after that. I say When in Love with a Blind Man
15. Your favourite lyric:
Oh, this is so hard!
Maybe Closest Thing From Heaven:
“ Throw your arms round the world Make love your destination” or Maybe from Shout:
“In violent times you shouldn’t have to change your soul”
or from Dog’s A Best Friend’s Dog
“Some Dreams you dream alone.”
15 ½. Silliest lyric:
To me is from the song Humdrum and Humble
“Through the haze, Remember You’re an animal, not a mineral”
16. Your favourite song by (solo) Roland Orzabal:
Dandelion <3
17. Your favourite song by (solo) Curt Smith:
No One Knows Your Name
18. Your favourite cover of a Tears for Fears song:
I really hate cover songs, usually. Never heard a cover of a Tears for Fears song that I liked, honestly.
19. Your favourite cover performed by Tears for Fears:
Stand by me with Julian Lennon <3
20. Your favourite song by Graduate (pre-TFF):
Acting my Age, you could already see Roland’s ‘weird’ sexy moves
21. Your favourite (official or unofficial) remix:
A remix of Shout by Steve Thompson and Michael Barbiero. It’s on youtube and it’s awesome!
22. Your favourite music video:
Yes, I’ll say Head Over Heels because I love a good romance and weird story
23. Your least favorite music video:
Don’t really have one, I think they all are interesting!
24. Your favourite live performance:
The recent one in Rock In Rio. They still got it and always will have it!
25. Your favorite picture of Tears for Fears:
Again, I also love guys with curls… Need I say it again?
26. Your favorite picture of Roland Orzabal:
Again, long hair
27. Your favorite picture of Curt Smith:
This pose always gets me!
28. Your favorite album or single artwork:
This one! Simple but poignant:
29. Your favourite interview or quote:
This Orzabal interview from 1985 about their songs
“When we do a concert, we expect people to enjoy themselves. Yes we want to entertain, but we don’t entertain with ignorance. We aren’t entertaining with stupidity when we are asking people to dance. We expect them to listen and feel the music. We also expect people to learn something in the process. Tears for Fears encompass a deeper level of thinking than most groups ask for”
And this Curtis interview from the same year:
Smith is the Tears’ spokesman, basically by default. "I find it a bit easier talking to people,” he explained. “Roland is more introverted. He’s like me, but a little moodier.”
30. A few closing words on then and why you love them:
I think they are the living proof that you can have a better life if you set out to it. They both came from broken homes, Orzabal’s father was horrible to him and his brothers, and Curtis was a juvenile deliquent. But music brought them together, made them friends and gave them an opportunity to give to us incredible music. They are an amazing band and I’m forever grateful for their songs. They record intelligent and heartfelt songs and that’s why I love them!

tears for fears
ooo,,, I don’t think the story of how I got into TFF is that interesting but here goes nothin:
I used to watch this music channel thing when I was a kid a lot, it had these different channels for different genres/eras of music and I’d flip through that on weekends or after school etc. Everybody Wants to Rule the World would come on every so often and it was Amazing. I always loved that when it came on.
Fast forward a few yrs and I’m rly emo and decide to watch Donnie Darko for the first time since I kept seeing posts of content from it on here. There’s that one iconic scene where they show the school for the first time and they play Head Over Heels in the bg. I was instantly In Love and kept replaying the scene on my DVD player over and over again.
So basically for a time I was just really into those two songs from SFTBC lmao. I was checking out a thrift shop a little after watching DD and found Songs From the Big Chair that had those two songs I really loved on it so I decided to give it a chance. (before that I kept eyeing best of TFF CDs at the mall but for some reason kept deciding against getting any omg)
anyway,, I had that tape for another couple years and only occasionally listened to it but lasts August I randomly decided to put on the tape out of pure boredom and was like ??? this is amazing??? why did I never appreciate it sooner?? and from there looked up their first album on YouTube and slowly started to fall in love with them.
a big part of me falling in love with their music was reading the lyrics to basically every song on The Hurting which related so much to my situation at the time it was almost as if Roland had written them for me. it turned into being really cathartic for me to listen to their music and I’ve loved them since then
(this was so long rip)
#anonymous#anon#thank for the message#I can't believe it took me like 7 years to actually give them a good listen to gdO

Curt, recollecting his last picnic:
"We had this ludicrous punch. Tasted like fruit juice but it was about 150 per cent proof. You have a couple of glasses--hmmm, this is nice fruit juice!--then you fall over . . ."
Roland, recollecting his last picnic:
"I had a picnic not so long ago at Castle Combe and it was freezing. Lovely food, though--champagne and fruit cocktail."

I think it's kinda, sorta the release anniversary of "Head Over Heels"? It was released on different days in different countries . . . Anyway, fwiw, here are my personal top three favorite HOH videos:
1: the official video
The music video of all music videos, THE video of all time, the video that made me fall so ridiculously hard for Roland that there was no cure:
youtube
2: the "In My Mind's Eye" (Hammersmith Odeon) performance
The first time they publicly performed "Head Over Heels," and they were feeling it. Also, I crazy-love Roland's outfit. And his hair <3.
youtube
3: the Montreux performance
Oh Roland . . . he looked so pale and breathless and I find myself wishing I could carry him to his dressing room and kiss him until he's even more breathless . . . I mean, what? *blinks innocently*

I love how Roland, then as well as now, keeps bringing up the fact that he and Curt are the same height. I will also never get tired of their violin theft/gift story. 😍😍
