Godin gets it. This is why I love skiing.

It’s a perfect metaphor for life. Skiing, like life, is exciting. One moment, you’re at the top, the world open in front of you, teetering on the edge, all potential energy. Anything could happen. Like skiing in the trees, in life you should spend more time thinking about where you want to go and less time thinking about the things you could crash into along the way.

In skiing, just like life, you will fly, and you will fall. You’re floating on top of nine inches of fresh powder thinking, “This is the best day ever,” and it’s as good as a first date that went really well or the day you got a raise or landed your dream job. Conversely, sometimes you catch an edge and eat shit, and you feel just like you did when you accidentally backed into a BMW in the parking lot or mistakenly clicked “Reply All” and emailed the whole company, or got tipsy and said something unkind but truthful about one of your close friend’s newest boyfriend.

In the end, like the saying about life, skiing is often too short. But just because you can go fast doesn’t mean you’re good at either skiing or life.

No elaborate explanation for this, and disclaimer I’m an a.postate and H.indu w.itch and former L.utheran/P.resbyterian I’m critical of all institutions but I think C.hristians as people aren’t actually bad, any religion taken to any extreme can be bad, but that is not an excuse to generalize. Also, I just thought @musicboxmemories edit was cool and I wanted the same energy different ‘narrative conclusion.’ Also, I @honorhearted have talked too much about Tallmadge’s faith and faiths greater role in the American Revolution either driving people as it does now to aspire for better (Benjamin Tallmadge) or make them far worse (divine right of kings), so on and so fourth.

A friend of Ed's, called "Ike" of all things, calls to invite him along to the gamer heaven on the county line. Ike apparently has a wide acquaintance, many of them hotties.

The place is a bit crowded, even before they arrive; and Ed, who was supposed to come too, apparently bailed at the last minute. Seth has plenty of initiative for a situation like this; but you have to be able to actually get next to people in order to schmooze them.

Whoa - who is that smokin' older guy at the pool table? "Pull your tongue in - he's straight." "I don't know what you're talking about." "I do! You're looking at Rhett Hart. He lives around the corner from us in Widespot and he's married." "That proves nothing." "Fine, do what you want. Except - whatever you do, don't tell him he looks like Valentine Hart."

"The Greek life is great. You really should try it." "Oh, I've been to togas and things. But I'm really happy living alone right now."

Rhett does kind of look like Valentine Hart in those old sports drink commercials - it's the nose. He's probably used to really manly guys, then. Seth puts his best foot forward.

But Rhett practically ignores him in favor of chatting up the college girls. Well, you can't really blame a guy for that.

So I read Reforged by Seth Haddon and then read the first Captive Prince from c.s.pacat right after.

I adored Reforged. I loved every second. I was so just satisfied, content. Bliss.

Captive Prince was tough, it's meant to be a tough read I think, I was gonna give up on it but the few scenes at the end that are more court intrigue focused I enjoyed so I may try the second book literally that last moment where it's oh shit he's wearing armor I was just lets fucking go okay I'll keep going

But man after reading both of these I have never felt more demisexual in my entire life lmfao

“Um yeah, I didn’t know which school I was going to pick till March,” Percy said and he looked to see that a girl with white hair was staring at him with a kind smile. 

She was sizing him up. He knew she was checking to see if he was a threat. Understandable. He knew this was a possibility so he just smiled back and noticed that just a little further away were five other men. Two twins—Percy knew who they were immediately—the Minyard twins. The one with the unsettling smile and curious gaze had to Andrew. Percy thought to himself remembering the overview that David had given him. Next to Andrew was Kevin Day. Thanks to Luke, Percy had already prepared to see him. Kevin looked at him wide eyed. Uncle David must have not told everyone who the new members were. Percy just looked away from him to see another Hispanic teammate. He wondered if he was also Mexican and decided that if he had the chance he would ask. Then he found the other freshman. 

David didn’t give Percy the name, just that he was from Arizona and had all the makings of  a Demigod who didn’t know he was. No home. At the very least shitty parents, more likely no parents. Constantly looking over his shoulder. David had been in contact with Chiron about him, and with the way Seth was glancing at the kid, Percy knew Chiron asked him to watch him. You can’t exactly send a satyr after an 18 year old, but  trained demigod already on the team? A good substitute for some guidance. Percy brushed his hands over his pockets making sure he did have Riptide on him. With at least three, potentially four, demigods and a double legacy in the same room, a monster attack was more likely than not having one.

“All right, I hope everyone’s travels went smoothly,” David announced, getting the team meeting started.
