that was fucking astronomical I have never read anything like it. hands down one of if not the best pieces of literature I have ever read in my life. if you write an original work one day I’m buying a million copies all on my own. you are an amazing writer I aspire to be as great as you. the way you convey emotion and tension is incredible. the accuracy and detail in which you describe characters and how they act is impeccable. the way you can still implement humor in the story and make it not feel out of place, same with nice, happy scenes in a world you’ve created to be so tragic, showing the reality and nuance of the characters and situation. Wow.

I was just wondering what the plans were with your fics, I’ve been following your writing for a while and I’m a fan of Just Kiss Already and Terms and Conditions Apply, plus (correct me if I’m wrong) I think you’ve been talking about ideas for other fics? No pressure at all ofc but if you have a timeline when you think your updates might be or maybe a layout of future fic ideas that would be really cool.

Haha funny you bring up other fics because I literally just started a new wip last night!

I've tried to have a fanfic update schedule before, but my brain is the organ equivalent of a see-saw. Sometimes it works (and helps me keep up with writing), and other times its as helpful as a stubbed toe. I think it's starting to teeter back to being okay with an update schedule, but that might be on account of NaNoWriMo starting next week.

Speaking of! I'm actually going to be working on "Terms and Conditions Apply" for NaNoWriMo. If all goes well, I'll have that fic fully written out by December 🙌 which makes it much easier to stick to a posting schedule!

As for "Just Kiss Already" I have the next three fics planned out, and I'm polishing up the outline for the cannibal cookout (which is the next one that'll be posted), but my motivation has been severely lacking recently. Lot's of life stuff happened and I'm still scrambling to catch up with it all.

You ever get brain fog so bad it feels like you need to relearn how to write? The fog be fogging.

It also might be on account of getting stuck on one WIP, so I'm trying to cycle through my other WIP's to see if that'll get the creativity flowing again. I'm also working on my contribution to the "Quacks and Tunes" radioapple zine (which ya'll should definitely check out ಠ‿↼).

Crossing my fingers that I'll be posting fics again soon 🤞I miss writing and I'm very eager to get back into it.

Ahhhhhhhh I'm so glad you liked the series!!! So first and foremost, thank you a million times over for taking the time to send some love <3333 it means the absolute world.

I'm notoriously bad at staying focused on what I'm meant to be writing (looking at you, WIP folder with 44k words in it), so I can't really guarantee anything at all! That said, I also wouldn't count it out completely.

The issue with adding to universes, sometimes, is creating a new Conflict. I can write them being stupid and cute all day long, but there needs to be something to move the fic forward, you know? And that's harder to come by than adorable landoscar moments to spin into fics.

All that to say: if it happens, it happened! I'm keeping my mind open <3

Do you have a preference on how people leave comments on older fics? I recently found you through Palmarosa, and while I've been reading older stuff I've wanted to leave comments chapter by chapter as I go, but would never want to like,,,spam you if it's something you find annoying.

I may not be able to reply to them all, but I read them all immediately. There's no such thing as being 'late' to commenting on old fics! Comments are always perfectly on time even if they happen 13 years later. :D

I just got a comment on Passiflora today that made my whole day and was a lovely comment, and I finished that fic in Feb 2021. :D

I get comments on fics from a decade ago and honestly I cannot tell you how excited it makes me when folks find old fics.

So yeah if you want to go chapter by chapter that's like saying 'instead of one presents would you like LOTS of presents?' and anon, that's... that makes me incredibly happy saklfjdas don't pressure yourself to leave a lot of it's too labour intensive! Hello! I don't know if op who submitted the asked to you about anzu lore & engirls is going to elaborate, but I want to drop my two cents too since I do like Anzu and find Engirls so interested. I'm sorry if I'm repeating anything you already know and I'm not an engirls expert either so i could be wrong about some of these.

Since you mentioned Engirls Protag and the war, here's the timeline that I believe under the common assumption that EG takes place alongside ES!! (given that Suzu and the bunch, who graduates in the end of EG was Anzu's old classmates and friends)

Anzu is a year older than her little step-brother (protag of Engirls who most fans seems to call Tenn(kousei-kun)). Basically in Anzu's 1st year of high school, she attended Kimisaki Academy, and Tenn was in his last year of middle school. Anzu and the Troublemakers' failed revolution occurred then (supported by the fact that Azusa was a second year in middle school during Paradise), and she suffers from bullying until she decides to transfer to Yumenosaki during her second year. By then, Tenn is in his first year, attending Yumenosaki as well.

In ! Era Anzu has told one of the characters (I forgot who) that her brother doesn't want to be associated with her when they are on campus and to pretend that they don't know each other (but he's at least nice enough to help her promote Trickstar to his fellow general course peers for her during DDD). Generally they have a somewhat strained relationship, which was surmised by various ES and EG characters as teen angst + his inferiority complex with his sister.

By !! Era, Anzu is in her third year, and Kimisaki Academy have decided to go co-ed, leading Tenn to transfer there (don't remember if there are actual reasons stated in-game or if he's just dropped there with no explanation). Due to that, Tenn was able to help the students of Kimisaki, mend their relationships, help Anzu reconnect with her old friends, and talk more with his sister. Anzu actually gets mentioned quite often in EnGirls, like how she makes his bento lunch, Seira sneaking into Yumenosaki to see her, drives her friend Natsumi to school, and etc.

Unlike Anzu who is an only-girl in Yumenosaki's idol course because she's a last minute decided test subject for the producer course (either her or her family most likely agreed out of desperation to be able to transfer), Tenn seems like he's the only-boy in Kimisaki just because he's the only one who enrolled?

There's lot of parts that are implied but still lies in the realm of headcanon/speculation. Like how EnGirls makes it clear that the reason Anzu transferred was due to the bullying she received as the target for the actions of the Troublemakers, since she was always a slacker who the teachers already disliked, but in the EnStars novels she says it's because of family circumstance. Although in the same novel, she (and Chizuru in the novel extra Crosstalk) does give a nod to the events of Paradise, regretting leaving her friends behind and running away; meaning that for Anzu transferring was not because of the bullying, but her own cowardice (although the bullying was pretty bad it was school-wide). For Tenn, the step-siblings have always been described as close growing up, but they have seem to have grown distant lately. Apparently, Tenn had even lived away from their family for a while. One could speculate that maybe he transferred out of Yumenosaki and into Kimisaki (both schools are in the same neighborhood) to get away from his sister, who at that point have probably gained notoriety as a the sole producer of the academy. Given that some stories make it a theme to validate Tenn, and tell him that he's a different person to his sister who is also great and deserves his own happiness, supports this in my opinion.

I'm sorry if this is so long, I hope it isn't rude or anything, it's just that many people have made me aware of how interesting Anzu's character, backstory and current arcs are and I wanted to share that to anyone else that might be interested too. She's pretty complex and well-written if you cherry pick all the stuff about her specifically from the stories, which is why I can understand why many fans consider her as her own character and more than a self-insert.

NO THIS ISN'T RUDE AT ALL, ANON!!! I am literally shaking your hand, thanking you. I'm a little curious as WHAT the Kimisaki revolution was right now....and what part Anzu played.

But STARS I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. You don't understand how much I love this....Anzu predates the Enstars games, firstly (cause I heard engirls was released first). The thing about her being a legacy of engirls, haunting its narrative (at least it seems that her shadow is cast over the engirls era pretty widely), and then switching to a viewer and casting her shadow on the Enstars boys??

I was so wrong in my post about her except also not because her self-insert-ness still feels somewhat significant. Except she's like...a very strange bridge between the player and the characters, existing in both worlds (her and her brother, it seems).

Anyway, Anzu lore is SO cool and I'll have to reread this again to fully appreciate it because man, I love this!

And I ALWAYS change the name (or at least most always). I'm so particular about following the rules of a universe when it comes to making ocs so i cant stand the idea of warriors with names like "Oliviatree", "Peanut Wigglebuttbreeze", or "Blinky Stubbinsstrike". And yes, those are all names I've seen the game generate haha

But like even ginger cats named Shadow- or non-tabbies named -stripe, that kind of thing makes it hard for me to take a character seriously and I don't want that, especially for a project like this.

That being said, most of the founders names are unchanged, including Russetfrond, Smokyrose, Sagetooth, and Songdust! I got pretty lucky and only had to tweak a few of them.

Favorite canon thing about this character?

In terms of TOS, people say she’s unemotional — and I get that was the intent — but I actually love her emotion. I love how Chris reacts to her disappointment at being left off the landing party. I love her light sarcasm and irritation as she does the math on Vina’s real age. I love her defiance and general “do not fuck with me” energy as she sets her laser pistol to overload. She’s emotional while also being rational and smart. Absolutely brilliant.

In terms of Disco, I love how Una knows things she shouldn’t, how people owe her favors, how Chris trusts her to use her own methods to uncover the information they want. I love how she can predict what Chris is going to say and that she’s ready and adaptable for stuff because space is weird, man.

In terms of Short Treks, I love that she programmed the food synthesizers on Enterprise. Chris feeds the crew in his way and Una feeds the crew in hers.

In terms of Strange New Worlds, I love her longstanding friendships with Chris and La’an. I also keep friends for a long time, and it’s nice to see a character with that trait. I also like that she’s gained some level of acceptance for who she is, even though she shouldn’t have had to fight that fight.

Despite the listing above, plus reams of beta canon, I definitely have additions! I wish she had been in more of TOS, of course, and I also think she should have been in AOS … depending on what they would have done to her. (My trust isn’t the highest on that.)

I admire how Una made clear her regrets and her willingness to do what she could to mend things in terms of her relationship with Neera. It’s complicated because their culture is alien and Una both benefitted from and was hurt by the hiding her parents chose to begin … but sometimes feelings need to come out so truth can be ascertained. And I really, really admire how Neera and Una both began to unpack feelings and truth to find their way back to some form of a positive relationship with each other.

If you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favorite thing to do when you're writing for this character? What's something you don't like?

Oh, man. I just checked and I have 26 fics for which Una is a tagged character. So, yeah, I love her, your honor. I suppose my favorite thing to do is to just let that love (hopefully) shine through. She’s flawed, as we all are. She’s also smart and loyal and strong and sassy … and fun to explore from a characterization standpoint. I wrote one fic in which she didn’t make a pass at Chris years before because she assumed he wouldn’t be good in bed, and he is kind of repressed so they’ll work on that. In my current WIP, Una is reasonably sure physical compatibility won’t be a problem with Chris but this time she’s the one who’s repressed — emotionally — from keeping her secrets for so long, so she and Chris need to fix that up. Flipping around inverse possibilities for different fics can be fun.

Something I don’t like? Ten episodes a season.
