fanfiction writer appreciation: skamverse edition
okay, so, earlier this week, @yaraaimsakul created a gif-maker appreciation for the skamverse fandom and i decided that i wanted to do something similar but for the writers of our little fandom. writing can sometimes take a lot of work out of us but it’s also such a beautiful thing and sometimes, it doesn’t get the recognition that it deserves. so, if you see this and you aren’t tagged, i want you to know that you are an amazing writer OR if you are a reader and aren’t tagged, but would like to spread the love to the writer’s YOU enjoy, do it! DO IT! spread all the love. i know all the writers of all fandoms (not even limited to the skam fandom) would love to hear from those who read their fics.
also, if you want to tag more than one person. do it! if you want add questions, do it!!
if you’re a writer:
a fic that you’re really proud of:
it’s really a tie between just friends and jij verliest. i really love both of them and i love how they both turned out—even if it was sometimes a little stressful because of irl events and the deadlines i put on myself. but i love the story about robbe and sander falling in love in another universe(s).
a fic that you were nervous to post:
safe. with unattainable, i felt very comfortable about robbe’s pov and his story but i wasn’t comfortable with sander’s. in addition, i would have probably liked to change his backstory—but it was the one i envisioned when i wrote unattainable so it felt weird to change all of a sudden. but it was probably the one i was most nervous about.
a fic you wished got more hits/kudos/comments:
overall, i will always wish that the curse of betrayal would get more hits. i know that it’s a fic centered on jana but i’ve thrown my heart and my soul into this fic and i love it to death. i love harry potter and i love wtfock so why not combine my two loves (tho i am putting a lot of pressure on myself lol)
one of your favorite tropes to write:
childhood friends to lovers, everyday. i love the trope so much it’s great. i really wish i could write a sobbe fic like that again lol.
another ship that you don’t write but you’d like to write:
omg there’s so many, you(s)mina is definitely one that i’m interested in writing because i just love them so much. the basketball clips the chemistry! it’s just impeccable. and zoënne. like real zoënne not whatever the hell attachment is LOL.
one of your abandoned wip you never wrote but wish you did:
um... my beach au. i love the idea but the plot isn’t tangible to me right now. i think i’m going to potentially write it someday but as of right now, it doesn’t look good. and maybe my royal au but idk if that’s abandoned yet.
another writer you would love to collaborate with:
@sonderthroughthestreets, @carolineworld, and @tsjernobyl <3 oh and @genjasafin ( ;) )
if you’re a reader:
a fic (or more) that you love to reread:
i know i had the questions, but it’s like i completely blanked on every fic that i reread. i really love anything by @aholynight because their way with words is simply amazing and their sobbe fics are to die for. i remember counting down the hours until they would post the chapter on sundays and it was amazing. oh and i’ve been loving @sobbefairytales’s the things you once said to me and i can’t wait to see how it turns out (but no pressure babe).
tag an author you always love reading:
@honeyandsinn cat i’m so behind on reading everyone’s fics but i always love reading yours because it’s always so sweet and beautiful and amazing. keep writing and conquering uni’s ass, you amazing queen.
recommend a story to your followers:
if you haven’t already go read @tsjernobyl’s fic right this second. here’s the link. okay, i really can’t say anything personal about this fic because i haven’t had the time to actually read it yet because graduation and stuff and negative thoughts but i’m getting on it. but, i’ve been talking to her since she’s started this fic months ago and she’s thrown so much of her heart and soul into this fic and i know for a fact that it is going to shine in her work.
as for non-skamverse recommendations, go read the life of times. it’s a marauders fic and is the whole reason i’m a writer.
tag an author you discovered recently:
i haven’t been in any ao3 tag in a while so i haven’t been able to catch up on fics so i don’t have an answer for this one :( though once i watch skam france i’m probably going to read @earthlingeliott and @luxandobscurus‘s fics, does that count?
spread the love!
tag someone who inspires you to write:
@peaceoutofthepieces, nat idk how you fucking do your amazing writing months in advance without dropping it but i am so inspired by you to try and do that. you’re fucking amazing and one of my best friends. dottori/croissenne, i miss her love and takes so much. @luludemauryyy, jess, i know you’re not writing skamverse right now but seriously though your motivation and excitement to write your fic is so contagious and amazing, i love you babe.
tag someone who you’ve admired forever:
@aholynight (i’m sorry to tag you twice), @dearrobbe/@dearsander, @sonderthroughthestreets, @luludemauryyy
tag your writing support and loves!
where to start... the aewb server for being the absolute shit and listening to me drown on my writing woes and conflicts. @tsjernobyl, emma, you give me so much support even when i’m struggling and i’m probably so annoying but you’re such an amazing person and thank you for supporting me. @sonderthroughthestreets, @honeyandsinn, thank you both for putting up with my random questions and bursts of inspiration and ideas. @hidden-joy, @sandersyasmina, @sanderxrobbee for helping me when i’m struggling and supporting me even with my hogwarts au and other stories. and everyone who has ever liked/commented on my fics or sent me an ask. you guys have all supported me in more ways than one.
tagging:
everyone who has already been tagged in this and @dagcutie, @carolineworld, @lot-bubbel, @luxandobscurus, @earthlingeliott, @mijnlief, @birthdaysentiment, @sander-klaas, and anyone that wants to do it. yes, even you.
#wtfock#skamverse#tag games#long post#(note while my answers were wtfock related [because that's all i read] this is NOT limited to only wtfock fics)

Hello! I just finished reading TLE1 so naturally I had to come gush about it into your inbox. First of all, I’m truly sorry, this is going to be long. With the story’s growing popularity I assume that you get a lot of messages and comments like this so I genuinely apologise for bothering you and don’t feel obliged to respond but I simply must try to express all my emotions. I wanted to thank you for the rollercoaster of emotions you’ve put me through over the last few days as I binged your 1/7
story. I’ve been reading Marauders fics for 14 years and I’m such a canon whore, I can’t even enjoy a good old AU anymore. Unique canon compliant fics are so scarce these days, so the fact that you managed to capture the Marauders & co’s characterisation and dynamic so accurately and perfectly while telling an utterly engaging and captivating story … I really have no words. BOWING DOWN TO YOU, QUEEN. I thought that no matter how many other fics I read, none of them can mend my TLAT 2/7
induced heartbreak over the lack of closure of that story, but I think I finally found a worthy successor. I’m rambling because I cannot coherently express how much I loved TLE. I was trying to explain to my very patient irl friends that what absolutely obliterates me about it is your inclusion of the small details and character moments from the books, and developing them into intricate plotlines and complex, nuanced character backstories. I just can’t get over how well you handled it. 3/7
I was making so many notes and highlights when reading TLE. And the clever little canon Easter eggs (“she hates me now!” ”nah, she doesn’t”, “you see the best in people even when the others don’t” and countless others), again, I have no WORDS. The way you handled Sirius and his family, Remus’s little furry problem, the prank, the fallout and Snape’s worst memory fitting it into JKR’s weird chronology of events... James’s anger at Snape, Snape’s anger at Lily, Sirius’s rage and resentment, 4/7
it all makes such perfect sense… don’t even get me started on the Animagi plotline… Sorry I can’t form coherent sentences, I’m basically clutching my pearls (if I had any) and shouting at my laptop. Your prose is beautiful, your attention to detail immensely appreciated and your characterisation absolutely spot on. All the plotlines flowed so naturally and have I mentioned how you managed to construct a whole fucking book around canon tidbits without any convoluted plotlines??? 5/7
AND THE FORESHADOWING. Like connecting Peter’s failed transformation with Hogwarts plumbing (lol) which will lead to the map making ahhhhh HOW ARE YOU SUCH A GENIUS. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT WAIT to see what you do with the Map making process, invisibility cloak, JILY OMG!!!! You gave us such a cute crush and delicious angst already! And the war years, I bet you’ll annihilate anything left of my heart. What I’m trying to say I’m your massive fan and will be eagerly anticipating anything you write. 6/7
Thank you so so so so sooooo much for putting so much time and effort into this project, I truly cannot form into words how much it means to me and undoubtedly hundreds - if not thousands - of other fans of these characters. I’m sure this story will become huge in the fandom. SENDING ONLY LOVE, COOKIES, SUNSHINE AND RAINBOWS YOUR WAY! <3 i'm so sorry for word vomiting this rant into your inbox 7/7
-------
ok I’m legit crying 😭😭😭😭
First of all, please do not feel the need to apologize for bothering me or for leaving a long message oh my goodness. This was truly the loveliest thing to read this evening. I SO appreciate you taking the time to not only read my story but share your thoughts and reactions with me!! I am thrilled that you enjoyed book one and I am very much looking forward to annihilating your heart in the future. 😉
Seriously, thank you for this incredibly kind message. I have been in Writer Despair Mode™ all week, so I can’t begin to describe how much opening Tumblr and finding these lovely messages means to me. You keep me going on days like today when I am debating just throwing my laptop into the pond and starting a new life… 😂
So much love to you ❤️❤️❤️

👀👀👀👀👀👀 here for it
get ready bc this one is going to be controversial af but...okay look let me start off by saying i’m absolutely 100% against cliques and bubble rping. i think it’s 100% wrong if youre in an active group and the admins just ship with each other and have all their major connections with one another and no one else. BUT... the key word here is active group. if you’re in a smaller group that’s going through a slow point in regards to activity bc of idk a global pandemic or something and just the three-four people are the ones regularly active, then i think it’s totally fair to plot with those people more than you otherwise would. trust me, i would love to have connections/plots with more than the same three people right now (like seriously, if you’re into groups lmk bc i want more rp friends). but i’m not going limit the plots/pacing that i want in order to try and do things with someone who only comes on once a week for one round of replies. i want to plot/ship with someone who is an active and contributing member of the group.
this one is an admin pet peeve, and i know that there’ve been some posts lately about it but i don’t think anyone who hasn’t done it really understands the amount of work that goes into running a group. and it’s fucking disappointing when you work your ass off for an event or something exciting for the group and it goes by without much participation or notice. like my group doesn’t have a gossip blog bc gossip blogs are gross, but we do have like a daily prophet type blog that everyone is able to submit in character articles/announcements if they want (a lot of it is like fun tabloid style magazine covers bc the group has a celebrity element to it). but no one ever takes advantage of this except for the admins. and so it looks like the stories all revolves around our characters when really we’re just the ones that take advantage of that feature. we even offer to make things for other characters if a member will just tell us what they’re interested in but no one does. so like....if an admin of a group offers something like this, use it. bc otherwise we feel like assholes whose work goes unappreciated.
this one is minimal but i really don’t give a fuck if sibling fcs look like one another. so long as the ethnicities are correct i couldn’t care less about who you use.
while i agree that irl things come first, if you join a group then you are taking on the responsibility to be active and a member of a group. merely meeting the minimum requirements for activity is nowhere near enough. if you are only coming on once a week to avoid an activity check and are not an active participant in the group, you need to seriously consider whether or not you are being selfish by staying within the group. this doesn’t just mean in regards to replies. being in a group means participating in the ooc and displaying an active interest in things outside of what directly affects your character. if you can’t handle that, then you need to consider alternatives to being within a group.
on a similar note, i also believe that if you are a member of multiple groups, you owe each group equal amounts of activity and effort. if you are giving one group way more attention than the other and are not an active member of the second group and the admin of that group finds out, it is totally fair of them to ask you to leave. if you want a side rp outside of where your main plots are and are just a member to relieve boredom when your main group is slow, then you take on the risk of the admins finding out.
similarly, and this may just be applicable to hp and other fandom groups, but if you are in multiple groups and playing the same canon character in each group, that’s not fair. pick one or two tops but don’t play sirius black or lily evans in every single active marauders rp there is. it’s not fun and you look like an asshole. if “hailee the 22 year old from EST” is listed as playing sirius black in multiple groups, it’s not rocket science to put together that this is the same person. (i just made up that name and character so if there are any 22 year old east coast hailees who like sirius black, please know this isn’t directed at you).
here’s one more for free: don’t group-hop. idk if that’s a real term, but if it isn’t i’m coining it. don’t join a group unless you plan on trying to make an effort of staying in that group. this isn’t something that can be figured out within a week of joining. you have to actively make an effort to establish plots and characters first. if you join my group and then ghost it after a week and the moment the unfollow is posted your url changes to a new group, it’s a real bummer.
Send me a “👀” for an unpopular roleplay opinion.

Thanks for reblogging my new Ask! 😊 3, 8, 9, 15, 17
And thank you very much for asking! I’ll try to answer these as best I can. :)
3. How did you come up with your version of Jacob?
I based my MC off of myself for the most part, and I actually never had an older brother. I’m the oldest child in my family IRL so it’s hard to picture someone much older, but I’d assume that just like any other older sibling, he’s always thoughtful and looking out for MC and his family.
Jacob to me starts off by looking like the typical smart, intelligent, good-boy kind of kid. He’d have short black hair, brown eyes, and a knack for goofiness and fun. In a way, he’d be much more laid back than MC, and it’s really his habit of skimming about different interests that brought him to pique his interests in the Cursed Vaults. Eventually he’d come home looking more crazed, his eyes more bloodshot, his hair longer and unkempt–and he’d spend hours upon hours up in the wee hours of the night obsessing over its mysteries. His negligence was what gave her family the intention that he stopped caring for them, but MC still had a soft spot for him since she had bonded with him the most out of the entire family.
Honestly it’s the personality that came first over appearance because in the game we don’t see Jacob, we only get snippets of little stories heard from everyone else around the school. We could only build Jacob up from there. But that’s kind of how I took him.
8. Does your MC have any sentimental items?
The piano, for sure. It’s the one instrument Jacob always loved to hear when he was at home, and playing it always made him happy. Even now, she still worked hard in front of the keys. She never gave up on music.
My MC also has a lucky Knut from her little sister, Em–it wasn’t really anything special, but it proved useful to Em when she was younger. Even now, MC still shines the coin on her robes and puts it in her pocket, hoping that it would give her the luck she needed to find Jacob and emerge triumphant over the challenges ahead.
Besides that, there’s the key to Jacob’s room that Tulip gave her in third year, and the Puffskein toy Beatrice gave her in fifth year–items we’ve seen in game. MC also has one of her mother’s old quills; her mother is a published writer on child discipline, and many of her books were sold in Flourish and Blotts before Jacob went missing.
She also has photos of her friends (yes, including the one her friends gifted her at Christmas) and their friendship gifts.
(Nope, I wouldn’t be quick to forget about those, haha XD)
9. Does your Jacob have any sentimental items?
Not many, surprisingly. When he became obsessed with the Vaults, he forgot all about his family, even to the point where he began arguing with his parents, which scared poor MC and little Em. The only thing he had was a letter from MC–the last one she ever wrote before he disappeared. She never knew he still had it with him.
15. What is your Jacob’s fashion style?
As mentioned before, Jacob’s a really laid-back kind of guy, always poking fun but only for good fun and humour. He’d probably wear casual clothes–a simple blouse and a vest, a pair of jeans, and some nice leather shoes–but not all the time. He’d go around the house in stocking feet nearly half the time!
In colder times he’d always have his Gryffindor scarf with him, wearing a long warm winter jacket and gloves. Admittedly, his taste in clothes is a tad better than Andre’s–heck, every girl would swoon at the sight of him! Really, though, he’d try to look good, but dress to have some sort of fun at the same time too.
17. Which Marauder is your MC most like?
Probably Padfoot (Sirius). My MC is very loyal to her friends and she’s never picky or choosy on the people she associates with, unless they turn out to be a really bad person (which she can tell from first glance). She’d never back down from a challenge. In times of not-so-seriousness she’d lay back and have fun, kind of like her brother, but she’d never lose sight of what’s important to her. She always takes her friends’ interests at heart and would never think of betraying them–not even for something more tempting.

Amazing People in Fandom
So Lindsay tagged me in this "amazing people in fandom" post and I have not been able to stop thinking about it. I’ve never really been called out in lists like that and it made me feel every bit of emotion.
So I want to return the favor and give some shout outs!:
@kay-emm-gee - Kayla was the first 100 blog I ever followed. No, seriously! She's also probably one of the first (if not the first) blogs I sent asks to regularly to flail about fictional characters! She is so sweet and so kind and a true inspiration of grace on this site. (I also blame her for my A Court Of obsession)
@nathenmiller @historicbellamyblake - Kaitlyn and Brianna (and Michelle but she deleted her blog like a year or two ago) may not be as active in the fandom anymore but I have to give a shout out to them because they furthered my interaction into the 100/Bellarke fandom but also how to do fandom in general. I started following bellarkefanfiction because of them! They taught me how to deal with fandom and I’ll never forget that.
@goldenheadfreckledheart @prosciuttoe - After that it was a no brainer to follow Lexi and Emily. These are some amazing, strong ladies and really hilarious. I also know I’m going to get the best content (Bellarke and other!) as long as I follow the two of them. And when they post fic? It’s like Christmas.
@marauders-groupie - A Tumblrbot actually sent me a message that told me to send a message to Lana and it was so random because I don't think I had “liked” any of her stuff recently? Anyway! Lana is literally made of magic. Her words are magical. She is so weird and quirky but it all works. I wish I exuded as much grace at “no fucks given” as Lana.
@wellsjahasghost - So I met Jade's doppelganger on a plane from Germany and now I send her shit posts and flail at her about the DC TV universe. She’s honestly, like, the most fun. Jade is an amazing (and I mean AMAZING) writer. She also does not put up with anyone's shit and can go hard when it comes to losing her wig. Truly a delight.
@katchyalater - Words cannot describe what Kacka means to me in this fandom and like, on the internet in general. I used to stalk her work on AO3 and then she got a Tumblr so I messaged how much I liked her writing and she wanted??? to be??? my friend??? So of course I just continue to be as socially awkward as possible but hey she seems cool with it. She has talked be down from anxiety and depression and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever forget those conversations. Kac is the sweetest person you will ever meet and if you ever have a problem with her then something is just seriously wrong with you. (Also I will fight you.)
@sneakyclarke - Jade has been a TREMENDOUS help and an AMAZING teacher in integrating me into the bellarkefanfiction blog. I feel like all I do is message her asking dumb questions but she takes them in stride and it just makes me want to do better and help her all the time.
@tracylorde @the-most-beautiful-broom - Kat and Lindsay are new friends but I love them already! If you want to talk about positivity in the fandom and just being decent human beings then oh buddy, these two are for you. I enjoy sharing all the dumb things I find with them because we seem to share the same sense of humor.
@sushigirlali - Oh buddy. Oh man. Ok. Alicia, this bitch right here, is the ENTIRE FUCKING REASON I’m even here. I went to her house one lazy Sunday afternoon and she gave me the option of starting Alias or The 100. My life has never been the same. That sounds so dumb but it’s the truth. Thank you Alicia for introducing me to a show that has consumed my life and a ship that I have met some amazing people through. Also thank you for obsessing Bellarke with me. It helps to have an irl friend to flail with!
#no one cares ashleigh#ashleigh gets sentimental#don't mind me#i just have a lot of feelings#bellarke#the 100#i love everyone in this bar#i'm really hoping i didn't forget people#but to be fair it is like midnight and i am le tired

Tagged by @tracylorde thank you! and i’m glad you’ve come over to the dark side of writing fanfic too.
1. what is your most popular fic by kudos? comments? bookmarks? are they all the same?
kudos Proof Canon AU fake marriage where Bellamy and Clarke must marry to secure an alliance. This one has a lot to do with Clarke helping Bellamy recover from his trauma and learn to believe that he deserves love and happiness. Not slow burn. They get busy right away. And it causes problems.
comments Got You A series of interlinked story prompts set in canon AU after season 3. No second apocalypse. It’s mainly about how Bellamy is helping Clarke recover from her trauma and stop being afraid to love. Slow burn. A bit of angst in there that I think is why the comments are tops. Everyone freaked out. It was awesome.
bookmarks: The Air Is Fine Up Here This is an Ark AU set 5 years after the show, but in a world where The Ark’s air system is fine. It’s the political environment that is destructive. Second children are not illegal they are just shunned. Clarke is a doctor with an illegal clinic in Factory, and she meets Bellamy because he is doing gladiator fights to earn money to support Octavia. It’s pretty plot heavy. It was nominated for a best Ark AU on bellarke fanfiction awards a couple years back, so it was my most popular for a long time, but the others have caught up.
2. do you have a favorite of your fics? if not, do you have one you’re most proud of? why?
Coming Home, which is a modern AU with a divorced Clarke and professor Bellamy, where she comes back to her college town and discovers who she is again surrounded by her friends. So it’s got some themes of the show. I wanted to think about what kind of “apocalypse” would be that devastating in the real world. So I made it this kind of divorce/abuse thing. But it’s not about the divorce, it’s all about the recovery. So it’s not personal at all. (okay it is. although it’s still entirely fictional, not a memoir in the slightest.) I’m also really proud of the bit of humor in this.
3. what fandom/ship (if you write for more than one) is your favorite to write for?
The 100 Bellarke
4. do you have any fics that got more popularity/attention than you expected? if so what were they?
Contracting and Expanding, this weird little child birth fic that I wrote because I was frustrated that women and girls don’t seem to understand what childbirth is really like. Like it’s this kind of open secret, and it’s so romanticized sometimes. I added a second chapter to wrap it up over a year later. I’ve never really understood why it is one of my most popular one shots.
5. where do you get your ideas/inspiration from? do you have a fic that you feel is particularly unique in that area?
I have a WAY different path to fanfiction than most of you. It wasn’t a thing when I was a kid. There was no internet. I started writing fantasy and science fiction when i was 15, but it was all original because I didn’t know of this concept. And there was certainly no community for it. Nowadays I think writers build their chops with fanfiction, explore, experiment. When I got to fanfiction, I’d already been through that stage and was taking my writing SO SERIOUSLY. Fanfiction let me get the fun back, and lowered the artificially high stakes that I had created in my head. Writing is so psychological and the writing process is basically a writer fighting the demons in their head in order to get words on a page. Fanfiction was like a big FU to my demons, because I was going to enjoy writing again.
Most of my writing inspiration comes out of my history, my reading, my curiosity, my questions. Me. I’ve been such a Fantasy/Scifi geek for so long though, that a lot of it is based on that. Fanfiction, though, allowed me to write general fiction, without the pretension of literary fiction, which going to school for English/Creative Writing had conned me into thinking was the only deserving writing (screw you academia.) Ha. I actually wrote about Clarke as a professor and Bellamy as a student in Academic. Be aware, I was not an academic. I got out of college and started waiting tables so I could be a writer/artist. Ha. Like in The Arkadias/Just Having Fun Clarke/Bellamy povs for the same story. Okay. So my inspiration either comes out my real life or out of my scifi/fantasy reading. Or wish fulfillment and my love of fake marriage tropes ala The Carriage House.
6. do you have a favorite character to write POV for?
honestly it alternates between Bellamy and Clarke. I suppose I might have more from Clarke’s pov. I’ve never checked.
7. what’s your favorite sidepairing to include?
Raven and Wells maybe. I don’t do too many side pairings. I’m more into the platonic friendships.
8. do you have a fic you feel is underrated in comparison to your other fics? or you just wish more people would read?
Maybe Moonshine. Because I turned it into an original novel that I’m still working on and I really like it, but I can’t blame anyone because I left it unfinished it when I decided to adapt it. But it’s like a preview of my novel.
9. what’s something you would go back and change in one of your fics?
I think I did go back and change an Echo ex Bellamy girlfriend to Gina.
Oh wait. I would have made everyone older in The Valley, part 1. It started out as a soulmate HS witches AU, but I tried to explain the sharing skin marks and it got pretty dark and very sexual. It’s the most sexual of all my fics, and I think it’s a little icky that she’s only 18. I like the concept but the HS thing was a mistake. Just like I don’t think I should try for writing smut, I also don’t think I should try for YA fic. I’m just not a YA writer. Or maybe it was the wrong story to try on. I had to drop that story. It went down a path that was more complicated than anticipated.
10. what is your favorite sort of comment to receive on a fic?
It’s kind of cool when people take quotes from the work and talk about what they meant or how they affected them.
11. what are your favorite genres of fic to write? (e.g. modern au, hurt/comfort, fluff, angst, etc.)
oh, sometimes I feel the need for Modern AU fluff ( a lot actually) but my favorite is probably Science Fiction, like not post apocalyptic, but space.
12. what are your favorite tropes to write?
Hands down, fake marriage/dating. Canon AU. Modern AU. Space AU. I’ve got a fake marriage for all. I’ve got a MULTI FIC fake marriage for all. And I’m not sorry.
13. do you write fics similar to what you enjoy reading or completely different? both?
The science fiction and the canon au is similar to what I used to enjoy reading IRL. But I’m in a phase of reading very gentle fiction. Fluff and easy reading. Comfort reading, so what I mainly read in my fanfiction is modern AU fluff fics.
14. what’s your writing process like?
My fic writing is a lot less planned out that my original novel writing. Probably because I already have the characters straight in my head and if I’m doing canon, I have the world too.
So what happens is I get an idea that excites me. It starts spinning around in my head and I want to see what would happen if I put Clarke and Bellamy in that world. Sometimes I have an idea about where it ends up. Sometimes I don’t have any idea (except for Bellamy and Clarke always get together, but i may not know how.)
Then I go with the inspiration and write furiously for however long. When I’m posting a chapter every day or three? That’s this phase. Then I hit a snag. I’ve run out of inspiration or doubts have infiltrated my story or I don’t know where the plot goes next or life has gotten messy and ruined my focus, or maybe the story just got complicated and I need to work out the snag. My pace slows down. I start taking on other projects, writing or otherwise. I figure out the snag and work my way back into the story (or occasionally) I decide that story is either too complicated and drop it, or I decide that I’ve actually finished the story and need to wrap it up.
15. multi-chapter, oneshot, or drabble?
Multi-chap. At heart, I’m a novelist and I have a hard time not thinking about how the tropes got to be the way they were in the story, so I build a world around them and create things to make them more logical or deal with cause and effect. And I also have a hard time leaving short stories the way they are, without continuing with what comes next. Sometimes when I read one shots or drabbles, I really don’t understand how the fic writers can simply not write what comes next. How do you keep yourself from continuing? My urge is to keep exploring the characters, story and world. I have finished multichaps that I could keep going with, but I have moved on to other stories.
16. if someone was only going to read one of your fics, which would you want them to read?
That’s a hard one. I think each one has something different to offer and I like them all. I put so much effort into the multichaps so I’m going to stick with one of those and pick the one I’m writing right now. Into Eden. It’s a space colonist AU and is turning out to be my longest fic ever and I think I’d count it as a novel. It will have a beginning, middle and an end, and there’s quite a bit of world building and conflict. It’s a fake marriage/mail order bride where Bellamy is the bride. If I can take a trope and put my personal spin on it so it’s a unique story, that’s what I’ll do. And that’s what I am trying to do here.
i’m really bad at tagging and this is why i don’t often do these things. it gives me anxiety so I’m only tagging a couple and if i missed you and you want to do it, please pretend that I tagged you because I actually want to hear EVERYONE do this. I think this stuff is interesting and it’s always good to think about your writing and your process. @mareebrittenford @marauders-groupie @the-ships-to-rule-them-all
