#snaredrumsaturday 😎🥁• @serenitydrums 11 of 12. A 13” Serenity snare made from two BMX bike wheels. Videos of how these snares sound are throughout the Serenity instagram account feed(1). They are great fun to play and sound unreal, this particular one being the reveal of the third of four snares from a twelve piece sculpted Rosewood Serenity kit titled ‘The Choir’ that I recently completed and delivered to the Highlands of Scotland, to, and commissioned by @pandadrumium. There are videos of these snares and the Serenity Alloy wheel rim snares in this accounts Instagram feed(2). This snare is LOUD, with it’s construction making it a completely hollow, shell-free drum you’d think the resonance and tone would be coming from the heads only, but it’s actually mostly coming from the spokes, which are tight, each one giving its own note, attached at the centre of the drum and each side/bearing edge/rims of each wheel. I’m probably going to make myself one of these, they’re fantastic. You can hear them in videos in this accounts feed. So that’s 3 times said, but will it still be asked for in the comments? Hand carved by @jon_serenity from the reclaimed Oak floorboards @dan_serenity grew up on, with the unique hand made 100 year old leather and antique coin Serenity tone enhancing lugs. A Serenity sculpted kit portrait only comes into its own when played by the drummer it is created for and character-tone-matched to. This requires our master craftsman and renowned artist Jon Hammond to have established a relationship and connection with the drummer personally, so he can truly represent them through his own vivid audio-visual carving. 😳🤯🥁• @serenitydrums 10 of 12, the Alloy Wheel Rim snare. Snare two of four snares from the 12 piece kit titled ‘The Choir’. This was a 1960’s UK Mini 10” alloy wheel, it is now a 12” snare drum with hand carved reclaimed Rosewood hoops and my hand made leather and antique coin Serenity lugs. To answer many FAO’s about these from the past: No, it’s not too heavy for a snare stand. Yes, it is light enough to carry around still. Yes, they sound incredible, alloy wheels sing like church bells, there’s plenty of video footage to be found from a scroll through the Serenity Instagram feed.
