Epistemic status: this is all hearsay. Supposedly Qualcomm has a chip in the pipeline that can finally trade blows with Apple's M-series, and they're throwing away all that performance on a moneymaking scheme that isn't even making them any money. It's so stupid it seems hard to believe, but it would be totally in-character for them.

i feel like, while you enjoy your work, in the end the things that it boils down to are travelling and enjoying good food and poetry. rather than your reason for existence / your existence being propelled by work, you want to moreso just exist and live and enjoy life (which, same bestie). i also think you’re quite thoughtful and a bit sentimental and and kazuha is too. i don’t think you’re as, calculating but i think kazuha cares deeply and tries his best to love the world and find people he loves too. i feel like you have a lot of love in you too.
2. ALBEDO
did you know elevator man has his own wikipedia page i think albedo represents the quieter side of you. kazuha is quite chatty and outgoing and albedo comes into the kin list for you socially. he’s a bit more reclusive and more introverted, social interactions can be stressful (read: draining) for him. i feel like he, too, has a drier sense of humour. he also gets really involved and knowledgeable about things he likes, and i see that in you too with a myriad of things you’re interested in. you’re also both really great artists!
3. AYAKA
its the perfectionism for me, your honour. ayaka and you overlap in this: you are helpful, kind and loved. little things make you happy and part of your charm can be your cuteness. you do not carry yourself with flamboyant arrogance, but more quietly and a little more reserved while still being friendly and i feel like you make good impressions. ayaka just kind of fills in the gaps of and adds to what albedo and kazuha covered. she also reaches a bit for the edges of your ambition, as i see you going on to do great things career wise.

Cruel Apple-Qualcomm gossip
*It’s all about Intel failing to do 5G, which they did, and which is really bad. Bad for Apple, who now has to fold at the knees. But especially bad if you’re a trade-war fed and you’ve got a Huawei 5G Princess stuck in prison in Canada because you thought big American chip companies ought to be able to handle 5G.

Qualcomm just pummeled Apple over patents and technology because, well, it appears the scales tipped in Qualcomm’s favor. SemiAccurate has been saying that Qualcomm would prevail and since we first started covering this suit and Apple’s tactics, and now they have.
If you read our last piece on the suits it was pretty obvious that Apple was in the wrong, allegedly caught red handed, and dug the hole deeper with their petty and vindictive reactions. Qualcomm claims to have multiple emails where Apple gave sensitive trade secrets to a competitor, then refused to allow Qualcomm to exercise their contractual audit rights. While there may be some more evidence not presented publicly, it sure looks like Apple was in the wrong.
So rather than fixing their alleged wrongs and making Qualcomm whole, they appear to have withheld legitimate royalty payments and launched a barrage of somewhat specious trade and patent related counter-suits along with lowball press sniping. Like several other non-public IP issues, Apple seemed to think bullying, threatening, and not paying Qualcomm would bring them to heel. We will skip the intervening legal and press posturing by Apple and suffice it to say they aren’t laughing at the moment.
So what was the result? Apple on their knees begging Qualcomm for mercy. Why do we say that? Read this. Seems pretty simple, right? Apple paid Qualcomm an undisclosed sum and licensed modems from Qualcomm, likely exclusively, for six years with an option for two more. What is the problem there? First start by looking at Apple’s claims over the past two or so years on the topic. Compare and contrast the wrongs that Qualcomm was said to have committed against the evidence Qualcomm presented. Then look at who paid whom and reflect on the fact that that the magnitude of the amount Apple shelled out started with a B.
Apple was trying to cut Qualcomm down to size and marginalize them to another supplier of commodity parts. They did this by trying to build up Intel modems and even allegedly handing Intel Qualcomm’s trade secrets when the Santa Clara company could not figure out how to make a working product. For the billions Apple dumped into this enterprise, they failed because Intel, the best of the non-Qualcomm modem makers, quite literally never made a single device that met their promised specs. No we are not joking, Intel’s modem business was a mess.
How bad was it? By the end they were showing multiple versions of the same fake chip photoshopped to ‘be’ a 5G modem. Really, you can’t make this stuff up. Intel claimed release dates, specs, and all sorts of numbers but never showed actual 5G silicon, functional or not. Worse yet they never got LTE modems even close to what they promised Apple. This is Intel’s problem not Apple’s, right?
Actually it was Apple’s problem more than Intel’s. Sure Intel was ‘selling’ Apple modems with a $10 bill wrapped around each one as SemiAccurate exclusively told you last year, but finances only go so far. Remember the iPhones with 600Mbps LTE modems? You know the ones where if you put that same Qualcomm part in any other device it was a 1Gb LTE modem? Then again if you put the same Intel modem in any other device it was a 600Mbps modem, not that there were any other customers dumb enough to use that device despite the contra-revenue pricing. Apple literally crippled their Qualcomm modem to match Intel’s so the finance set would put pressure on Qualcomm....(((etc etc)))

Представители Intel сейчас любят говорить о том, какого прогресса в плане быстродействия им удалось добиться при смене одного поколения 10-нм техпроцесса на другое, в результате чего последнему даже было присвоено обозначение SuperFin. Некоторые осведомлённые источники продолжают считать, что даже в апогее своего успеха 10-нм техпроцесс компанию Intel спасти от всех проблем не сможет.

Чарли Демерджян (Charlie Demerjian), обычно скрывающий свои откровения за барьером платной подписки на материалы сайта SemiAccurate, выступил на конференции Susquehanna, позволив некоторым участникам обсуждения на страницах Reddit зафиксировать высказанные ими тезисы в письменном виде. Речь шла о проблемах, с которыми Intel предстоит столкнуться при освоении 10-нм технологии.
Чарли начал с того, что напомнил присутствующим о чрезвычайно низком уровне выхода годных кристаллов у 10-нм процессоров Cannon Lake, которые Intel даже была вынуждена отнести к «нулевому поколению» из-за ограниченного распространения на рынке. Так во��, менее 25 % получаемых на кремниевой пластине кристаллов Cannon Lake в дальнейшем годились для использования по прямому назначению, даже с учётом отключения встроенной графики на всех серийных экземплярах.
Безусловно, так называемый SuperFin обошёл Cannon Lake на два поколения, но уровень выхода годной продукции в рамках этой версии 10-нм технологии всё равно ниже, чем в случае с 14-нм техпроцессом. Источник утверждает, что годными являются больше половины всех 10-нм кристаллов, но этот показатель далёк от типичного для зрелой литографической технологии.
Не хватает Intel и производственных мощностей для выпуска 10-нм продукции в достаточном количестве. По этой причине темпы расширения ассортимента 10-нм изделий могут оказаться ниже обещанных, да и объёмы производства уже представленных изделий будут ограниченными. В частности, производители ноутбуков жалуются на нехватку 10-нм процессоров Tiger Lake, выпускаемых Intel по передовой версии технологии SuperFin. Отчаянный жест Intel по переносу Rocket Lake на 14-нм техпроцесс для выпуска настольных процессоров с современной архитектурой Чарли Демерджян подвергает критике. По его словам, процессоры получили крупные кристаллы и высокий уровень энергопотребления, а это повышает их себестоимость и ухудшает потребительские качества.
По сути, источник не верит, что 10-нм техпроцесс сможет обойти 14-нм технологию по объёмам выпуска продукции Intel. Это может создать проблемы для выпуска 10-нм настольных процессоров Alder Lake-S в достаточных количествах, хотя представители Intel и предвкушают серьёзное увеличение производительности по сравнению с предшественниками. Позволят ли ограниченные объёмы производства Alder Lake переломить ситуацию с укреплением позиций AMD в настольном сегменте — большой вопрос.
