"Aunty Selly!" As soon as she heard her daughter calling her sister's name, Leyla's stomach sunk a little, a weighted sigh soon escaping her. Billie darted through the crowd, her little Wednesday dress trailing behind her as she rushed to Selin. Benny had disappeared for now, leaving her without the backup and the distraction she relied on when dealing with her older sister. "Of all people..." she murmured under her breath, trying to keep her expression neutral as she approached her. She forced a polite smile, letting her gaze drift over Selin’s outfit. “Nice… Jennifer’s Body look,” she managed, then added with a raised brow, “You went all out, huh?”

The ballroom of Paradise Point Resort was alive with celebration, strangers mingling, couples laughing, the air buzzed with excitement. But Wes could hardly focus on any of it. His eyes kept drifting to someone in particular. She stood near one of the tall windows now, the moonlight catching the shine of her dress, almost making her look otherworldly. It had taken him far too long to work up the courage to cross the room, but a little alcohol finally did the trick. His pulse was roaring in his ears as he cleared his throat softly to catch her attention. "Wow.." The word slipped out before he could catch it. Perhaps he should've thought about what to say before approaching her. "You look..." Wes faltered, momentarily at a loss, his words catching on the breath he hadn’t realised he’d been holding. "Incredible," he finally managed, the sincerity in his voice undeniable. His eyes softened as he glanced down, almost shyly, before meeting her gaze again. “I mean, you always do, but, uh.." Right now would be a good time for the ground to swallow him whole.

Seeing Selin in this way, in the Parker family kitchen, the way he had countless times before.. it left an unsettling feeling in the pit of his stomach. A familiar one, a nostalgic one, but unsettling nonetheless. Wes watched her, his gaze softening at the sight as a small smile plays on his lips. It was so easy to fall back into rhythm like this with her, the way things almost felt effortless, like no time had passed at all. There was something comforting about having her here again — like a piece of his life that had been missing was suddenly back in place, even if just for a fleeting moment.

"Their lives are as chaotic as ever," he said, leaning against the counter across from her as he takes a sip of his tea. "They're.. well, I think my mom's happy I'm not.. you know." Selin knew all too well about his family's qualms over his choice of career. He knew she would understand that, too. "Eli's growin' up way too fast. He's a good kid." He realised she would've only known him as just a toddler; that was how much time had passed. It was a lot for his brain to compute. "He uh.. he's smart. Smarter than me." He paused, watching her for a beat longer, his brow furrowing slightly as he took in her expression, the way she looked at him. It wasn't just familiarity; it was more, but he couldn't quite place it. "I mean, I don't think they'd be surprised. Not by the fact that you're here with me, at least. But maybe a little shocked to see you in town, after all this time."

Did you put honey? Something of a smile tugs at his lips. "Of course. How could I forget?" Wes wanted to know more about her time in New York, about who she was. And when she claimed that she missed him, it took everything in him not to respond with the fact that he'd missed her, too. But he knew that once the words left his mouth, it would be harder to keep everything else buried. So, he held his tongue, letting the silence linger for a beat longer than usual before he spoke, his voice low and steady. “You seem different somehow,” he finally said, his gaze steady on her. "I always thought you'd make your mark somewhere big, you know? New York sounded like the perfect fit for you. —What's it been like?"

The scent of coffee wafted in the air when she stepped out of his bedroom, peering around the corner until she found him in the kitchen. It felt like a familiar sight now— remembering the mornings when everyone else had left for their day and she found him there, waiting with her coffee. Her fingertips brushed the top of the countertop, stilled by the confession of him keeping items of hers. It wasn't so much that he'd kept things because, sure, she had kept things of his as well but it was the comment about whether she'd wander back in. Her heart stilled, desperately wanting to ask him if he'd ever wanted—hoped— that she would come back and tell him that leaving was a big mistake and maybe she wanted to be with him in whatever way he could handle at the time. The only reason she didn't was because she didn't know if she could handle the truth if it wasn't what she wanted to hear. "I'm happy you did." Her gaze held his for a moment while the weight of it settled, and then she wandered further into the kitchen.

When she knew that he wasn't ready to rush her out, she allowed the relief to wash over her. She hadn't expected just how much she'd been holding her breath, silently hoping that she'd get a bit more time. The small of her back found the counter she'd always sit on, easily hoisting herself up on it like she'd done countless times in high school and after that. "How are they? All of them, and your nephew?" Her head tilted while she took him in, allowing the nostalgia and the fact that she still felt like home in his home envelop her. It was an odd feeling, but one she didn't hate. "You don't think they'd be surprised to find me here?" She felt like a lot of people would be surprised, herself included, but maybe not at the same time. It was always complicated with first loves. That stood true for them. "Coffee is perfect. Did you put honey?" It was what she usually liked so she mainly wanted to see if he remembered. The smile came easily when she watched him, unable to help herself from whispering the confession. Partly because he'd always been her confidante, but also because she hoped he might feel the same. "I missed this more than I realized. This town, these simple moments, you."

"If you spot Derek slipping in here will you give me a heads up?" Leaning into his hands at the edge of the bar there was something intense in his eyes as they peered at his best friend. His younger brother, due to a recent fight between them, had been barred from coming into the family restaurant. It was for good reason and not meant to be permanent. Derek needed some straightening out however and Jeremy was lost one what to do anymore. Especially since the young man was reaching his late twenties and couldn't be resting on the same old excuses anymore. "I'll absolutely buy your loyalty with free drinks all night..." Then he offered a lopsided grin.

Doing her best to fight off the aftermath of so much destruction in her life from the last few months, Noa had taken up doing little mental health walks each day. Most of the time she aimed for the afternoon after she'd made it home from work ( another new thing in her life, this new job ), the exception was the weekends where she could go whenever, but this was mid week and she'd just made it through another day. Hands in her pockets as she strolled along the pavement of her street's sidewalk she noticed her neighbor and decided to stop being such a stranger. The past couple of months she'd been withdrawn and reclusive and Noa knew that wouldn't help her. "Hey, afternoon," she greeted, "need help with that?" Selin had been one of the older girls she'd always admired growing up and when she'd left Noa had always wondered what she'd gotten up to while away.

There was nothing quite like a work out to start the morning off right. Not only did Enzo usually have the gym to himself at this hour, but it also helped him clear his mind before the workday began. With his mother's health on a decline and his sister trying to worm her way back into their lives, Enzo's stress levels were off the charts. Some early-morning weight training was exactly what he needed to get back in the zone.

However, as he pushed open the door and allowed his eyes to scan the equipment, he was rather disappointed to find he wasn't alone. The last person he expected to see–and definitely one of the last people he wanted to be alone with–was standing there before him. "Selin Yilmaz is back in Briar Ridge? I really musn't have slept well last night, because I swear I'm seeing things."

The night had certainly been full of surprises, and Wes was just about overflowing with weighted situations for one night. Alara flirting with him — well, he assumed she was flirting — wasn't on the cards for 2025, that was for sure. He froze for a beat, caught between surprise and concern as her words sank in. The light tug on his pullover and the look she gave him left him momentarily disarms. His gaze softened as he looked down at her, taking in the glassiness of her eyes and the slight sway in her stance. But.. there was something more, something he couldn't quite put his finger on. Was she hurting? "I guess not," Wes finally said, something of a chuckle escaping his lips. "Alara—" He reached up to rest his hand on her arm, his voice steady but gentler now. The flicker of flattery he’d felt was quickly overshadowed by the need to steady the situation. "I think we need to get you some water, okay?" His voice was almost a murmur as he searched her features, hoping to find a way to pull her back from whatever edge she was teetering on. @selinymaz

"So, you're telling me," Alara's voice was soft, with a husky undertone that did a good job of masking the slur that drew out her words, as she stepped closer to Wes, reaching up to tug a bit at the zip of his pullover as she looked up at him from underneath long, curled lashes. He'd had the misfortune of stumbling upon her pretty late in the evening. After being rejected by Enzo, she'd had plenty of time to wallow in the pain of spending the holidays without her father, and now she was in a full-blown downward spiral. "that with as gorgeous of a face as yours, no one snatched you up to ring in the New Year?"

Her question was laced with innuendo as she looked up at him, a clear sign that the brunette was too far gone in her downward trajectory. If she had been thinking straight at all, she wouldn't have come within ten feet of Wes with that tone. He was Selin's ex, after all. Their past was incredibly complicated and as such, he was completely off limits to Alara.

But in this moment, when she was desperately chasing anything that would distract her from the pain that threatened to consume her, she wasn't even thinking, just purely acting based on what she wanted. And what she wanted right now, was for Wes to make her forget.

The victims— Shadae Okoro, Dean Hadwin, Aylin Yilmaz, Selin Temel, Aranya Saeli, Malachi Phillips, Kennedy O'Neill and Peter Buckley— are reported to have died from fatal stab wounds, though details surrounding their deaths still remain unclear. Jieun Park and Kage Himura were injured tonight and both are currently receiving treatment at Griggs General.
