So yeah, the eye thing is a thing in this AU and could be a little different? Rui snaps at Ukkomon for doing something he didn't want. He didn't want Ukkomon's eye at all.

Since Rui doesn't know what Ukkomon did to his parents in this AU version, he only reaches the limits of his tolerance for Ukkomon's "gifts" (the ones Rui didn't refuse because the boy thought it would make Ukkomon sad or "lose his only purpose in life") and just yells at Ukkomon out of a bunch of mixed feelings.

One, he got his eye hurt while he was trying to help the village he and Ukkomon were visiting, and one of the debris from the attack caught him off guard and hit his right eye. Two, Ukkomon acted without thinking twice, out of panic to be exact, and took off his own eye and magically slapped it in the boy's face.

Rui hated it SO MUCH because he didn't ask for it. He wonders if Ukkomon couldn't have done something more useful instead, like using that wish power to heal his eye or something.

And more importantly: Rui didn't want Ukkomon to literally destroy himself in order to help. Because that would make Rui feel terrible and regretful. The boy would think it was HIS fault.

He yells at Ukkomon out of stress, while the digimon has absolutely NO IDEA what to do now. The fact that Rui is angry and unhappy is the reason why he runs away, or more precisely, becomes invisible and hides his presence from everyone and everything.

Except that the eye can and will "activate" when Rui is in real danger, giving the poor kid a headache since the eye is not compatible with an organic human body, so…

Rui doesn't know what is happening because he can't control it, so he closes his normal eye (the other one he can't move or use at all) and just wishes that this headache will go away. And when it stops, whatever or whoever is threatening him is gone. No trace of anything. Are they getting away, or is the digi-eye just wiping out anything that tries to hurt him?!

No clue...

But this strange "protection" keeps him away from enemies. And maybe attract the attention of some unwanted people (hi Ken?)
