The Books Beside Clyde Logan’s Bed

Clyde Logan loves his books. That being said there is a small collection beside his bed of personal favourites as well as books he intends to read but hasn’t gotten around to.

First in the list is catch 22:

This book was recommended to Clyde by a friend from his military service. Though Clyde enjoys a good conspiracy and satirical piece, there are some parts of this book that are a little too intense for him. Because of this, the book sits lower in the stack with a bookmark hanging out of the side indicating that he hasn’t finished reading it yet.

Next on the list is My Dark Vanessa:

Clyde discovered this book when asking the woman in the bookstore, “ma’am, do you recommend anythin’ new?” Taking full advantage of the opportunity to educate a man on the difficult realities young girls and women face in society, she explained that this is a book for anyone who cares about the safety of young girls. Clyde, being his sweet self and the uncle of a young girl, couldn’t refuse. The amount of anger that this book brought him is palpable. The book sits towards the top of the stack because he recently finished it with red tabs on various pages indicating “red flags” that Clyde intends to look for so that he can protect Sadie and be aware if he has a daughter of his own.

Fahrenheit 451:

Clyde first learned about this book in his American literature class in school. Being a man who loves books, this small book easily became a favourite of his. It sits beside the stack due to its smaller size. Clyde doesn’t want it to get lost among the other books in his trailer so it will dutifully remain at his bedside.

The Key lime Crime:

This was a book of Mellie’s that casually caught Clyde’s eye when he was visiting her salon for a trim. It was casually sitting at her work station just beckoning for him to reach out and grab it. “Clyde honey, do you want to take a look at it?” His sister’s question caught him off guard. His cheeks tinted bright red as he examined the feminine cover. “What’s it about?”

Death By Pumpkin Spice:

After reading The Key Lime Crime, Clyde developed a proclivity for cozy mystery novels. He tries to interchange his cozy mystery books to match the seasons. He boldly reads the books within the comfort of his trailer, or by the lake when fishing with Jimmy. Jimmy once asked him if those kinds of books were for ladies, and Clyde simply looked up from the pages with his signature stoic expression. “Am I a lady?” Jimmy shrugged and shook his head. “Okay then, there’s yer answer.”

The Flags of our Fathers:

Due to his service in the military, Clyde wanted to read military themed books in hopes that it would help him better make sense of his own military experience. This was an effort that usually left him bored as he prefers more fast paced books to distract him from his busy life. He hasn’t read past the first page, but he intends to finish it one day. It currently sits just below Catch 22 at the bottom of the stack.

A venture through the Realms

The Elven folk

Ah, the elves. A wondrous and mysterious people since time immemorial, even Fradeo Mellys does not dare speak overly ill of them. They are humanity's oldest allies, even if the bonds were often frayed.

Once, the elves ruled over an empire that, if we take the elves' word for it, far surpassed any other empire in the world in its splendor and greatness. Indeed, independent sources state that it expanded throughout most of the continent, both aboveground and subterranean. Its riches are, at least in part, owed to the legendary art of gem-weaving.

This begs the question: How did it come to this? How was the greatest empire of the continent reduced into three factions, its power so vastly diminished one could not believe it had ever been this expansive?

Mellys has a handwave for an explanation here: He cites an "innate ineptitude of any non-human race at maintaining an empire". This line of thinking is, naturally, so inane that I refuse to entertain it.

As an unintended consequence of me taking a copy of Mellys' own work with me, I may have ended up overzealous. The leading thought was to show why my travels and inquiries were necessary.

Instead, Fradeo Mellys has ended up on a Wanted list. For that, I believe I owe an apology.

Regardless: the elves have splintered into three subfactions after their empire shattered. The reason for this, I will elaborate on shortly, as it has only been revealed to me after I had visited all three people.

The Lorekeepers

The most traditional and isolationist of the three factions. They are often referred to as High Elves, due to "their noses sticking up so high", according to some. Much as Diranis may try to deny it, the elves are magically superior, in part due to an innate affinity towards magic. This, coupled with the fact that their culture existed before most others, has given them a sense of arrogance, displaced as it may seem now.

Their former capital city, Eldnahal, has been walled off by an impenetrable barrier. This much is known to any adventurer foolhardy enough to brave the travel through the Greenhouse Woods, though the origin of the barrier has been unknown to most other races.

The Lorekeepers are immensely isolationist: I have only been granted one brief conversation with one of their number. She told me in no uncertain terms that humans cannot comprehend the way of life of their kind.

As far as I am aware, they behave like particularly obsessive librarians.

The Communists

This faction calls the far reaches of the Greenhouse Woods its home. Rather than a central governing body, its entire way of life is the realized way of existence as postulated by Lamarck the Dreamer: There is no political body whatsoever. Rather, the entire existence of these elves is limited to self-sustaining communes where they grow everything they need to live.

The Communists themselves do not mind the moniker "Wood Elf".

My host, Sanista, could not tell me the reason for the Empire's fall but was much more interested in telling me a different story over a pipe of starleaf. While illegal contraband in Diranis, wood elves have naturally no such scruples, as "it is natural".

Regarding the story: their people had ventured into the woods during the Splintering of the Empire, determined to erect their own utopian way of life. To organise their first steps, the wood elves elected a council of their best, to lead them towards their utopia. This council of greats swore an oath: to lead them well and to lay down power when the communes were done.

However, one of their number had great ambitions and did not want to relinquish power. They schemed and conspired, to become the sole ruler of the wood elves. However, their comrades were not idle, nor were they stupid. The conspirator was found out and promptly killed.

It is unthinkable what could have happened, if history took a different turn.

The Reformists

Commonly known as dark elves, their appearance has changed in comparison to the other factions. This is in part due to their majorly subterranean life near magical crystals the size of a grown dragon as a light source. However, some of their number have also settled on the Sun-kissed Islands. As such, their skin colouration ranges from an aesthetically pleasing chocolate brown to an eerily fascinating ash grey.

This faction disavows the Old Ways and is the most antagonistic towards the Lorekeepers, who they consider to be absurd and backwards-minded. This is also the reason why I managed to find out the reason for the Splintering in the first place: the Reformists see little shame in admitting to mistakes of the past and prefer looking towards the future.

The cause for the Splintering is simple: everyone went collectively insane for a bit.

The last elven empress had eloped, leaving the throne vacant. In an attempt at legitimising themselves, a variety of elves simulated the blessings of the gods upon themselves. This "era of idiocy", as my gracious host Emesilla had described it, was compounded by a brief and embarrassing war against the Megathera, a diplomatic incident involving the goblins as well as a variety of inanities that remind the historically savvy of the Diranian Donkey War.

Of all things to finally trigger the Splintering, it was the gods themselves. They came down upon the world to chastise the elves and drive them out of their city, leaving the Blessed City of Eldnahal sealed.

It appears natural that the Lorekeepers prefer to keep this knowledge hidden and it seems counterproductive of me to reveal this here. However, at the risk of appearing eccentric, I must confess: I want to be on the Lorekeepers' Wanted list.

Regarding the general culture of the Reformists: they are intensely xenophilic, adapting anything they seem even remotely beneficial. Independent of this, it is "in style" to "partner" with someone of a different race for sexual and romantic relations.

My host certainly attempted to tempt me into staying, though I knew that if I had given in even once, I would not have been able to leave. This quality, perhaps, is the most dangerous aspect of visiting the Reformists.

Without a doubt, it delayed my own departure from Hornwood by a few weeks.

(the savvy reader may have noticed that the communists here have successfully reached Stage 2 of the Communist Way. This is because they killed their Stalin/Pol Pot/ Ho Chi Minh/whoever the fuck communist dictator, you get the idea. And even then, it was pure dumb luck)

6. what does A think B thinks of them? or, if asked to describe their relationship, how would they do it? are they right?

ingo is under the impression that melli thinks he's incompetent and annoying. ingo is also under the impression that melli thinks this about everyone. this is because melli tells everyone this every chance he gets. he also thinks this is kind of a fair assessment in his case, because, like, most wardens get training in how to Be A Warden. he very much did not. he's just kind of. guessing his way through it. so like. yeah! melli objectively knows more than him and while he can be kind of a jerk about it, it's not entirely unwarranted for melli to regard him as unskilled.

jokes on him though bc melli didn't fucking go through any training either he just followed in his big sister's tradition of showing up at the noble's seat and not leaving. i'm still on the fence abt how... idk, self aware melli is, but i think in general he does like/respect ingo more than he will ever actually admit. he may not know specifically the ins and outs of being sneasler's warden, but he knows pokemon in general very well and is adept at handling them, and he does also clearly take the responsibility of the position very seriously, which is one of the things that's most important in melli's opinion. also i don't think melli's ever... known a highlands warden before ingo. like, the one point of comparison he has is the guy who fucked off and abandoned everyone almost two decades ago. so between that, and No Warden At All, and ingo, there's kind of no competition. having the extra pair of hands is REALLY helpful even if melli will staunchly deny that he ever had any trouble doing everything by himself.

on the flipside, i think melli. kind of thinks ingo is a little obsessed with him because the dude will Not leave him alone. in reality ingo just goes stir crazy if he doesn't get his required amount of human interaction per week and melli is the closest available person to fill that quota. like i said though, ingo DOES think melli is a very capable and knowledgeable warden who also happens to be kind of an asshole (maybe unconsciously?? he's not sure about this one) but generally puts up with his habit of not knowing basic things about hisui, or sinnoh, or being a warden, and wandering off or zoning out staring at a lake for hours, or forgetting conversations they had Yesterday, pretty well, which is appreciated.

12. if B asked A for help, how likely would they be to give it?

oooh this is a fun one. in the very very rare case that melli asks (or, more likely, demands) ingo's help with something, i mean ingo is like. physically incapable of NOT agreeing to help when he is directly asked. it's really more a question of how far into asking melli can get before he cuts him off. it also helps that if melli's asking, this is probably something that's either really important or needs more than one person to deal with, or both.

on the flipside though. i already mentioned that i think melli runs into a lot of ingo Not Knowing Things, and while he might roll his eyes about it, melli loves to fucking talk, and he LOVES getting to be an authority on things. so that's one of the cases where melli's almost definitely going to help, but less so out of the goodness of his heart or anything than that he just enjoys it.

in other cases than that one, though... i think ultimately if ingo asks for help with like, general warden duties, aiding a traveler, etc, melli will help him, because while it's a terrible imposition you jerk, sinnoh forbid he is caught slacking, or suggesting anything is outside of his power, or disrespecting his fellow wardens and nobles in any way. he is the epitome of "it's rotten work, i'll fucking do it but christ alive." also he will never admit it but melli DOES care about ingo on a personal level, and is pretty fucking angry abt what he sees as someone intentionally attacking a warden (even tho ingo wasn't a warden yet shh) and permanently scarring him re: amnesia, so if it's anything personal or related to that melli WOULD also go to bat for him. not bc he cares tho. this is a Principles thing.

💜🧡 A LOT more Melody and Fir things:

Melody:

"Melly" was first used by Fir as a nickname for her, when they were younger. Since then everyone on the blog has adopted calling her that in some aspect.

Melody's a constant Remnant (FNAF) source given her unique circumstances.

Her main ability as a spirit is possession, currently specializing in possessing technology. Since her IC chip is her anchor, anything it's put into is something she can take direct control of.

This does mean she can possibly possess other bots' bodies as well, however they wouldn't be aware of it 90% of the time for obvious reasons. She doesn't like the fact that she has this power.

If her IC chip was broken or otherwise eliminated, that would broaden the scope of things she is capable of possessing. HOWEVER, it would also mean she has to be possessing something in order to remain anchored to the living world. If she isn't possessing something, only specific people would be capable of seeing her and she wouldn't be able to interact with anything whatsoever.

Can't leave her body in TWEWY universes. That's a one-way ticket to being alice-in-wonderlanded to the UG. It's a little more obvious there that something is up with her as well.

Will pretend to be human in predominantly dominated areas. Hates having to act more human than she needs to.

She wants to be a performer and sing on stage! She is. Very naive about the realities of this dream in particular.

Chamyle knew the dangers of the multiverse when making her body and knew one day she would want to go out into it and see it for herself. So she purposely made her body extremely durable, going as far to make modified alloys to ensure that it took a lot to destroy the body.

While her body is solar powered mainly, Chamyle also made Melody's body capable of drawing from many other power sources. If she needs to, she can run off almost anything that said body can process. This was added when she became capable of eating food, as a way to prevent waste if she did eat anything.

Despite being able to eat, Melody can't taste anything strongly. It's all faint since it's a trait from her ghost. If she was capable to tasking more though, she'd have a much bigger preference towards sweets and things that are EXTREMELY sour.

Her form is capable of being self-modified in small amounts to match any alterations to code.

Melody's code and soul are directly connected. Things that affect it and her IC chip can affect the very culmination of her being.

Fir:

Both her legs are wooden prosthetic given extended capability due to an enchantment from Noir. She's currently considering her moving to a different kind; the problem is finding something she can use that is capable of the abilities she needs

Fir's legs in specific are fir tree wood, which is where she got her name. Noir named her! She doesn't have a legal name.

Having been in one of the Undersoul Programs (Undertale/Deltarune) back in the day, it gave her an interest in that form of manifesting it in general. Hence she has become eerily good at having her soul separated from her body, despite still being connected to her.

Her soul takes the form of a little orange heart that floats about her and seems to have a mind of it's own, following her true desires and senses. This makes it VERY hard for her to lie about certain things unless she can physically grab the little heart.

Her fire magic is POWERFUL. She is an incredibly potent fire prodigy and enjoys working with it to a concerning degree. It comes in handy a lot of the time, however.

Other than her magic, Fir's main weapon of choice are iron knuckles of varying degrees.

She is very against the idea of personally having parents in any capacity. Fir is very vocal about both this and being overly cared for and will actively refuse things if they go too far.

Only capable of sleeping for one hour intervals before waking up again. No matter what is affecting her. This is due to a curse she doesn't even know is affecting her.

Both:

Melody is the brains and Fir is the brawn. This means with their newfound archivist work that Fir is usually the one out in the field, unless it's too dangerous and Melody's resilience is needed more.

Fir adores Melody's singing and it's one of the few things that can make her feel safe no matter what. Melody uses this rather often.

Both Fir and Melody live in Arhive Sigilate / The Sealed Archives now that Chamyle has moved on to be someone new. Melody is it's primary caretaker and Fir will check in on the temporary visitors there and interact with them.

Melody also handles initial visitor or returning visitors, while Fir takes care of the Mass amounts of regular and cursed unown that take up residence in Arhive Sigilate.

Melody is currently teaching Fir to dance. It's not going well.

Fir is incredibly protective over Melody, often casting suspicion on anyone new she brings around. It takes a lot longer for her to warm up to and accept people than her girlfriend, given her past of being puppeteered and manipulated. Melody understands this and often warns people of the fact that Fir could be like that and it's not because of any dislike.

While Melody doesn't fear death, she does fear killing and the death of Fir. In contrast, Fir isn't afraid to get her hands dirty and commit some violence- bit verbal and physical- but is terrified of actually dying permanently. Despite this, Melody is still usually the cautious and logical one, with Fir being incredibly reckless and chaotic.

PDA isn't a huge thing for Fir and Melody. Unless it's for emotional reasons, it usually very rare to see them affectionate with one another. Given both are highly affectionate people, this is incredibly out-of-character for them.

Melody will most often call Fir her partner, while Fir will solely call Melody her girlfriend.

Fir is heavily melee focused in combat, aiming to hit hard and take an opponent out fast. Melody is more ranged and defensive, preferring to keep her distance. That being said, they both have options to handle each others roles for when they are stuck fighting on their own. Melody has the Z-Saber that she inherited from Chamyle and Fir has ranged spells.

Imagine if the player controlling Akari/Rei just trama dumps on a self aware NPC like Melli or volo about there irl life, thinking they wouldn't care and just leaves them horrified.

Oh, how horrified it would leave them-

You just kinda idle in front of Melli for a bit, rubbing your temples, clearly exhausted. Why did you even start playing anyway when you had to get up early tomorrow? "Man... My brain is in such a fog today. I can barely concentrate."

You stretch as your back pops.

"Getting hit by a car definitely wasn't what I needed. Especially after working so long today... I'm just glad he hit the breaks in time, so it wasn't like he hit us hard... and I still have to go into work for 10 hours tomorrow.

Your voice sounds so low and tired. "Should have known boss would ask for a damn doctors note just so I could have a day off after an accident, claiming if I didn't, it wasn't 'that' serious. Ugh. I just know I have bruises forming. Is that not enough?" You set the switch down beside you, leaning into your couch cushion. "Add that my family decided my house was perfect for the holidays to visit when I told them I didn't want to host... I just know one of my aunts is going to yell at me again over painting my room my favorite color or something. Or asking about my love life and trying to set me up with some stranger, and getting mad when I say no. Ugh. Maybe I should just go to bed..."

You put your switch in sleep mode, unaware of the horrified look on both the Hero and Melli's faces. This wasn't the first time the Hero had heard you talk about your many troubles, but it was still worrying all the same.

Melli though, was very much not expecting that. Even he seemed a bit horrified just from the small bit he gleamed from your small ramble.

So we're going through season 2 of Scandal and my coworker and I are exhausted by how quickly the show has gotten boring. I hate Fitz so much; he's not sleazy enough to be interesting but also not pathetic enough for me to look adoringly upon him as a sopping wet beast. As it stands, he's just a shitty guy who is emotionally abusive towards his wife and manipulative towards Olivia -- but the narrative doesn't even seem to recognize the degree to which this comes across. Olivia becomes a weaker character every time they interact (what happened to "we don't cry" back in season 1?). What does he even do all day? We see him go to events and contemplate international affairs, but it's so divorced from his character's conflicts (and shot so unimpressively) that doesn't register as him actually doing anything to me. I want this show to be about Mellie so fucking bad, she's the only character whose complexity is actually evolving in a way that is interesting (and evil! Yes!!! Yesss!!!!!!! Evil but complex stepford smiling women!!!!!!!!) and *actually* has things to say.

I know this show is right wing (or "center right" if you want to get pedantic) and cheesy melodrama, but it's frustrating how it's so enamored by it's own premise that it can't bear to ground any of the volatile actions of it's cast. Everything has to be a hidden act of passion or innocuous naivete, even multi layered schemes. If the writers were self aware about how deeply mental the premise is from the start, this could easily have been as good as Succession.

In regards to your post about Ingo being the less approachable one out of the two:

Going back to my first impressions of seeing their BW art I felt Emmet would be much friendlier while Ingo is the one who's more grumpy. It's only once you meet them that you soon realize that first impression especially for Ingo is wrong and he's a kind sweetheart.

I'm one of the few people how see's Emmet being kind and a sweetheart in a similar way. (one of my favorite Emmet quotes is the one where he praises the Player's smile, in general this guy is praising a lot: the Player and like you mentioned his brother) And his smile definitely invites people to approach him first, just by first impression alone.

That same dialogue dives also into Ingo being completely unaware of his lack of smiling. He believes he can carry his enthusiasm and friendly nature with his loud voice but a smile never reaches his face. I do believe that Ingo had to deal a lot with bad first impressions in the past making him a bit more insecure at times.

I also feel this is something he has to struggle in his time in Hisui. He doesn't seem close to anyone there. Compared to all the other Warden of each part of Hisui he and Melli really clash more than anything and it doesn't really feel like they've reached understanding for each other. (but then again it's Melli we're talking about)... Really hope taking the job in Jublilife gives him more chances of positive social interactions. And of course the chance to eventually go home again... Though I do believe his time in Hisui makes him even more aware of this insecurity especially when he watches how everyone approaches Emmet first.

Apologies for dropping by your inbox and give my thoughts on this matter. But your post really spoke to me. A lot. It is a refreshing and understandable depiction of Ingo and I really hope to see more of this portrayal in the future!

Man I remember from the early 2010s fandom when everyone characterised Emmet as the happy, silly and go-lucky twin while Ingo the grumpy, no-nonsense stuck-up and this kept up until their Pokemas debut in 2021. These two have straight up been mischaracterised for over a decade.

Now ppl mischaracterise ingo as the naive twin and emmet as the rude asshole twin lmao /J /J /J /J

But no I don't mind at all, I feel as though this aspect of ingo doesn't get explored enough as well (as funny of a gag subway boss "I like winning more than anything else" emmet constantly being behind his brother in popularity is)

Maybe Emmet always had to be that person to offer Ingo encouragement whenever he feels self conscious about his inability to smile, to pick him back up whenever he feels he failed a social interaction because of it, and maybe he did have trouble adapting in hisui because now there isn't someone there to reassure him he's doing great and not to let other people's opinions of him get to him, as they don't know him like they do, whoever this "they" is.

Maybe they both equally relied on each other, because despite how sweet and friendly they can be they both still have some qualities that would make them off-putting; Ingo with his constant frown and volume, and then there's emmet with his bluntness (if you go by his manga interpretation) and his competitiveness, and even his constant smiling would eventually creep some people out (also they both just look weird, pretty sure they are intentionally designed to look strange if you take into account their designs are influenced by clowns.) One twin doesn't carry the other, they both have their strengths and weaknesses and their whole lives they were so used to having one balance out the other. There's so much content that explores how Emmet could be coping without ingo, which are all great, but not enough on how Ingo would have coped without Emmet, and how they both can grow in each others' absence.

I've come to understand that actually the Pokemon fandom doesn't have a clue what they want! They whine about how much they want an jerk rival like Blue or Silver all the time! We get Bede and Melli and they're the worst most annoying characters ever and they hate them!!! And not in an affectionate way like they hate Blue and Silver!

Funny, I thought Bede was Rose's horribly abused son who's worse off than N and Lillie combined /s

I think part of it is that, in a cast of characters singing your praises constantly, the asshole ones will stand out more. And I feel like the older games did a bit less of that. There's at least not like... a chosen one vibe to the player character in Kanto or Johto. Your just a kid who keeps ending up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

(Not to mention bland as hell nice rivals making the mean ones seem even worse)

- Like most it starts off small.

- He notices a few things that seem…off, like everyone staying in the exact same place, doing the same thing over and over again. Melli caught himself doing that as well, he’s so confused on why he just stands in the same spot.

- Then you, not you, showed up.

- He cause hear someone else talking, but it was like a disembodied voice tied to this odd person.

- That odd person being the new sky fallen one. Melli takes notice that they don’t really follow a set pattern or anything, just doing as they please.

- When he finally completely breaks free from the code he is horrified.

- All his clan is false, his friends are false, everything was a lie, built for the sole reason to entertain.

- He doesn’t even know you or can see you and he resents you. If it wasn’t for you he would’ve never had this realization.

- In the end however he becomes desperate.

- Melli realizes how lonely it is here in the code, no one to talk to or gloat to, it’s incredibly boring.

- But when you load up your save file and play, it feels less empty and hollow. Your emotions can be heard through your words, you bring so much life into this empty world.

- A part of him is still upset, yet he longs for something, anything! He’s clinging onto your every word, laugh, jab, insult, anything!

- He knows that the player character isn’t you, but a vessel of sorts for you, you aren’t here, you are ‘playing.’

- You must be the almighty Sinnoh! That’s the only explanation!

- Why else would he be the only one to break free from the code? Obviously he’s the better choice, and you picked him cause he’s so great and pretty.

- Right?

- He doesn’t have many interactions with your character if the code is anything to go by.

- Melli will make his own then!

- It starts off slow, hoping you won’t notice his ‘new’ dialogue or that he isn’t suppose to be in this area with you.

- But the more you don’t question it the bolder he gets.

- The bolder he gets, the closer to you he gets.

- He finds himself longing for your attention, wanting to hear you praise him, to be by your side, even if he refuses to say it out loud.

- Would you freak out if he revealed himself? Surely you wouldn’t, you made him aware, didn’t you?

- You would accept him, right?

Cool, I'm down with both poodle Arezu and arctic fox Irida. Not sure about lizard Mai, if only because I'm not sure how that would affect Adaman's self-image issues. Although. Mai could be like, the Exception to him, because she's Good Luck in their culture, on top of being fast and blue and beautiful, and thus basically an ideal Diamond Clan embodiment. If she were pretty much any other kind of reptile he might feel different, but if they're the only two Diamond Clan reptiles around at that point and she's a lucky animal, then that'd make sense if he was able to keep his insecurities about being a bad fit for a leader and like maybe the Pearl Clan are onto something about reptiles having piss poor luck. It's just that now he has someone to compare himself to, and all he can see are the ways that he falls short. A mourning dove for Cogita is a smart idea, I like it a lot. Also, I was thinking about white dove Volo, and I found it even more fitting bc those are the birds they use in sleight of hand tricks.

If Irida could do it without killing him, the easiest way to make sure he was doing things like eating right and grooming himself and hopefully even calming down every once in a while, would be to drag him back to the settlement where he'd have people to help him. But she can't. At this point she knows the best thing for him would be for him to go back to wherever he came from, since he arrived in mostly good condition, but she has no way of doing that and is just trying her best. She'd be sad to see him go, but also extremely glad to know that he won't just waste away out in the mountains or get mauled to death or something.

I think it'd be hard for Melli not to notice, especially because he seems to take great care of his own appearance. Compared to Melli, Ingo kind of looks like a stuffed rabbit that was used vigorously as a chew toy until it was raggedy and most of the stuffing had leaked out. He's also one of the few people Melli sees on any regular basis, so whether he wants to or not, Melli's going to be Aware of him. Now as to if he'd help... I don't think he'd go, like, out of his way to help, but he wouldn't deny Ingo help either (though he might gloat while giving it lol). And yeah, I can see him nagging at Ingo to get his act together, that's probably how he shows he's worried and also he'd be legitimately annoyed if something completely preventable happened that then fell on Melli to take care of. The Great Melli is, of course, great art everything, but that doesn't mean he wants to be scraping Ingo's carcass off of the floor of Moonview Arena like he's roadkill just because Ingo didn't eat enough and passed out on the job. He can appreciate the theatrics of a good swoon, but this is taking it a bit far.

Yeah, Emmet is going to have so much work to do to help get them both back on track once he finally gets Ingo back. Because somehow I don't think Ingo is going to be especially helpful. Even if the rift damage was magically fixed and he suddenly got all his memories back (which, let's be real, is unlikely), he'd still have years worth of habitually not taking good care of himself and ignoring things until they boiled over. He'd probably just be getting overwhelmed way easier, while still not doing a lot of the things that would actually help because he's too stressed out, in an environment he's not used to anymore, and it's hard to get back into habits you've long since fallen out of. So Emmet is unfortunately going to having to do some of the heavy lifting for a bit until Ingo can start self-regulating again. Which isn't going to be great for his stress levels, but on the plus side he has the other half of his buddy system back which his instincts appreciate, he no longer has to worry about where Ingo is and miss him, and in general he's just got way more in his reserves than Ingo, who at this point is running on fumes. I assume Emmet has some form of support system too, to help him.

HMM all very good points about mai. the idea of her being considered a lucky animal is very fun, too. i do like the diamond clan having more than one prominent lizard—since the mirelands are probably the warmest climate it would make sense for them to have the most reptiles i think. ...which brings to mind an interesting interaction with ingo, actually, because if they have a lot of cold-blooded or heat-and-humidity-adapted clan members and the rest of hisui is comparatively cold and arid, they would probably know the most about how to adjust to changing climates if the body isn't doing it. once they realize that's like, a major concern, melli might very (very) begrudgingly share some of that knowledge with him.
