Takao had agreed to walk Yuuya’s dog after practice as a favor to his senpai (and for that matter, as an apology for always getting on his nerves) but it seems that luck is typically not on his side. For though he had tied up the dog only briefly to buy a sports drink at a nearby vending machine, by the time he returned the dog had stealthily slipped out of the leash’s knot and is now probably roaming in a nearby park somewhere.

After several minutes of darting about frantically -- who knew the gruesome ways in which the younger Miyaji brother would torture him if Takao lost his pet? -- he breathes a sigh of relief when he spots the dog in the distance, very much safe and nuzzling up to the hand of someone he actually knows.

“Ah, Kiyoshi-san -- er, sorry about the dog, he’s not mine. Thanks for finding him for me,” Takao adds lamely, shuffling his feet sheepishly as he scoops the dog’s leash back into his hands. “Um, how goes it?”

For someone who was prone to what her teammates called “being reckless” and what she called “doing stupid shit”, Mizuki treated her belongings with a good deal of care. This, combined with her sharp memory, meant that she rarely lost her personal possessions. And that just made her current predicament all the more frustrating.

After her tutoring session was over and after emptying out the contents of her blazer’s pockets and her school bag and searching the library for thirty minutes, she had decided to take her search to another part of Seirin’s campus and try to retrace her steps—emphasis on the word try. It didn’t help that the only part of Seirin she was familiar with was the library, and that was only because she met her tutees there. It also didn’t help that so much of Seirin’s grounds looked the same.

Mizuki buried her face in her hands and groaned. She shouldn’t have decided to take a walk around campus while waiting for her client. Then again, she shouldn’t have decided to do a lot of things in her life. She stood up from her spot on the bench and rubbed her temples. Moping wasn’t going to get her anywhere.

That was why when she spotted a boy heading in her direction, she straightened her shoulders and moved to block his path. “Excuse me.” Don’t sound too desperate. Be polite, but not too polite. “Have you seen a phone with a lotus phone charm and a bright blue case? It’s kind of an emergency.”
