Personally I grew up in an Irish Catholic part of London, and there's this thing of not seeing many Muslim or Arabic or pretty much anyone who isn't Irish or polish(I am neither), but this main road is capped by two huge Arabic communities that I honestly don't spend much time in.

What this ended up meaning is that our only butcher is made for halal meat, because u can't rly trust Lidl to keep things halal ig, but it's surrounded by 4 different Christian churches, as far as I'm awear we don't have a mosque, and what I'm pretty sure is a community center is hidden off the main road

Are moslems and arabs or half arabs are treated kindly in England?

I used to want to go to England but nowadays I just stop wanting to go there until monarchy is dead

Genuinely depends where you go! There are definitely more conservative areas to avoid and more accepting areas.

Your best bet is probably to try and find an area with a high asian/Arab/Muslim population and go from there.

Yorkshire where I’m from is very multicultural and people are generally very respectful.

Certain Muslim and Asian cultural festivals are starting to be celebrated in schools now too, which is ace considering church with school was mandatory when I was a kid lol.

i was today years old when i found out that the holocaust wasn't even germany's first genocide in the 20th century.

reading about the Herero and Nama genocide is horrifying, but like doubly so because the germans had been doing imperialism, taking people's stuff and enslaving them, and the Nama said enough was enough the Herero said good idea so they started a war to get the germans off their land and during the war there was one incident where a Herero surprize attack killed ~150 german settlers (we'd call them civilians with today's terminology) and germany immediately killed as many Herero soliders as possible then started building their first concentration camps. and then they killed ~100,000 people. and is it just me or does that sound a little like gaza? the palestinians had enough of sitting around being colonized and hamas saw a chance to do a surprize attack and took it and israel immediately lost their shit and started doing a genocide. the decendants of germany's second genocide are reinacting germany's first genocide.

also, the fact that the second world war ended in '45 and germany joined nato in '55 is like.... holy shit. can you imagine if, like, tomorrow kim jong un rolled over and died and ten years later american politicians were talking about the north koreans as our valuable allies and how important it was for them to be manufacturing nuclear weapons? on the other hand it's kind of comforting to know that americans have always been this fucking stupid.

Black Forces in WWII — Homefront

In honour of Black History Month, this year we’ll be looking into how Black Americans served and how they were treated, during WWII. The first in this series of posts will start with a brief overview of American life at the beginning of the war, and the involvement of Black workers in the homefront war efforts.

American Life Going into WWII

With the war in Europe, Black Americans recognised the paradox of Roosevelt calling for the world to share in “Americans’ entitlement to four freedoms: the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom to worship God in his own way, freedom from want and freedom from fear.” — The promise of these “four freedoms” and even most basic rights and services were regularly denied to most Black Americans.

Jim Crow

At the beginning of the 1940s, parts of America, specifically in southern states, were still enforcing Jim Crow law. These were laws requiring the racial segregation of “whites” and “persons of color”, and covered all manner of public spaces, including public transport, schools, restaurants, restrooms, libraries, parks, and cinemas. Despite the legal doctrine of “separate but equal” that was core to Jim Crow, the facilities that were assigned to people of color were consistently inferior, underfunded, or simply non-existent compared to their White counterparts. In no uncertain terms, the system of Jim Crow put those of color at a significant economic, educational, an social disadvantage.

Life in Northern and Western Cities

While they did not enforce such extreme segregation as that found in Jim Crow states, northern and western states still enacted racial-based discrimination that limited the ability of many Americans to advance social, economically, and educationally. Denial of to access bank-loans, property leases, and employment meant that there were limitations to where people could live, work, and own property and businesses. Redlining is one of the clearest examples of how many minority groups were systematically discriminated against outside of Jim Crow states.

Despite this poor treatment, many Black Americans stepped up to defend the freedoms of those in Europe and serve a country that failed to apply those freedoms at home. Thousands of Black citizens rushed to enlist.

Life on the Homefront

With war efforts ramping up, there was a rise in migration of Black men and women out of the South to the industrial cities of the North, in the hope of new opportunities and a steady wage. Tens of thousands of men were called up for service, leaving a need for men and women to step into the workforce.

Employment

The pressures of civil rights advocates and the need for workers led to Roosevelt’s Executive Order 8802, banning racial discrimination in hiring for the defence industry and federal government positions. This, along with the need or labour, opened up the workforce to both Black women and men. However, once hiring was complete, companies were free to segregate their workers — separate entrances, residences, cafeterias, and restrooms. These facilities, as in Jim Crow states, were often inferior, and Black workers were frequently assigned to more menial jobs, denied advancement opportunities, and paid less.

Here are some actualy tips from someone whose lived in poverty their whole life

What money affords you is time more than anything else. The most important adjustment when poor is saving time when you can and spending more where you have to.

Buy prepackaged foods. They are affordable, accessible and fast. Lots of people only eat them, you'll be fine.

Take every free meal you can get and enjoy the money you would have otherwise spent

Buy a clothes-horse or air drier and use it. Better yet, set up a clothesline.

Compare your utility rates if you can. If you've been with the same provider/supplier for more than a year or so, odds are there are better rates out there.

Buy second hand clothes

If you work from home, you may be able to claim a portion of your utility bills and living expenses as a work expense (results will vary)

Ask 👏 people 👏 for 👏 help 👏

If you smoke dope, have a t break and start back on teenie nuggets. You'll be shocked how far a little will go.

Some weeks will just be waiting for your next pay. This is normal, if not a bit boring. Dont get lost in despair, it gets easier. Today will id the hardest it'll ever be again.

Pirate games, films and media. If you can't afford it anyway, its not a lost sale.

If they're free, set up multiple bank accounts with your bank and use them to segrigate your money. Set one up for bills, one up for spending, one for food and another for savings. This makes budgeting infinitely easier.

Libraries often do free classes, and can be a fun and inexpensive way to pass the time.

Steal shit people put in front of their house to throw out. It's fun and worst case it doesn't work, it'll just end up on your lawn

I think the true measure of the failure to address the cost of living crisis is that not a single think piece about it is actually helpful. There is no advise, no help, no hot tips and tricks to ease the pain. Just justifications and way of being "mindful", as if the trick to all of these problems is simply being aware of it. It is important that the video addresses these issues because if the problem of modern school segregation was just presented as a racial issue some people might not pay any attention to it because they believe that there are other reasons for it. By addressing these other reasons and showing people why they might not be true, it allows the conversation to move forward. It connects modern segregation in schools, and now although it is talked about it never reaches everyday society. We know that segregation is a continuous movement in America, and yet we don’t do anything to change it. We live our lives in constant ignorance, to which we do not acknowledge that this is constant and happening everyday. It is a controversial statement to say that segregation is still constant, it connects with society and the need to talk about it.
