What is Seethus actually? What's his backstory?
Hmm, I don't really think we'll get into it in-story, so I guess I'll say some things about that over here, since you asked...
The out-of-world backstory for Seethus is basically that one of my long-time collaborators (hell, the very person who gave me the original idea for Gladiator) suggested this OC for me to use, as an interesting potential ally for Ozai to rely on. I jumped on it, not only because it was an interesting concept, but also because... Ozai needs more allies, haha. It's kind of sad that I basically had nothing to go on based on canon alone. That his most reliable military officer in the show is his fourteen-year-old daughter doesn't bode well for his rule and militaristic campaign, does it? :'D So yeah, the idea of a bodyguard for Ozai, of a sort, came in handy perfectly for my needs.
In the original concept, Seethus had a rather tragic backstory where he had been raised in a very toxic/abusive household. He would have found ancient ruins with old symbols or so (kinda like the Sun Warriors) that allowed him to attempt an interpretation of firebending that went beyond common firebending. I can't remember right now if it was in the original outline or not for this to be lightbending all along, but I think it was? Anyway, the point is it didn't really work out as intended, something about the recipe kinda backfired, so to speak... and Seethus ended up in a rather twisted sort of "undead" circumstance where his otherworldly powers are also a disease that is killing him, much as he can use it to his benefit in combat or stealth missions.
That's as much as I can say about his origin story, to a fault. As I continued to write him, I concluded that Seethus did indeed attempt lightbending (I kind of used the Head Sage to convey those theories/explanations), but it didn't work out for him. Kind of like how lightning is supposed to take a toll on the bender if it backfires, lightbending, as I conceived it, took a rather steep one in his case. Basically, the misfire twisted the nature of his very energy, his chi, and corrupted it without outright killing him. It's as if the putrid stuff Azula was ailed by, after the Spear's essence infected her, could become her weapon...?
In Seethus's case, he lives off a very delicate and dangerous life-death balance, where too much life, too much humanity, would cause the corruption inside him to consume his remaining life-force and kill him. Too little life, and he'd die anyway since his life-energy would stop flowing and the corruption would spread and seize him completely. The main thing that makes him dangerous is the fact that he can bend this corruption, whereas Azula never did/tried, as her situation was a loooot milder than his.
So, Seethus is human, not a spirit. It's entirely possible to say that some spirit caused his bending misfire and corrupted his energy when he attempted to lightbend, of course, but I don't really have a full-blown answer for this because... I figured a lot of his appeal as a character was precisely about not having absolute, precise explanations as to who and what he is. Personally, this is how I envision him and the root from which I write him, but you're free to headcanon whatever you'd like about who he is, and where he came from, seeing as I'm not really going to go in-depth about those things in the story :'D

Wooooah that's so cinematic! omg! 🤩 they're like the two sides of a bookmark! (also the sneaky in the bg off to tell Shaofeng cracked me up hahahaha).
Thank you as always!! You have a LOT to be proud of here!! <3

Inktober is around the corner but I'm not very patient. No suggested prompts were followed here.
1st picture of Sokka in c367, "not even azula can stop him." You can see Kei and Sei's team in the front! And Ruthless (wannabe) Hero. I went with my own imagination of Sokka's opponent.
2nd picture is of Azula in c348, Seethus' ambush. (is it a coincidence that his name sounds similar to the only other 'lightbender' in the series? lol. Anyway, it's fun to see Azula exerting power over him).
Side note: the second picture had been drawn long before the recent chapters when his design wasn't fully confirmed. I took it as a freeform. And to be fair, there is not enough solid design for him because his condition apparently keeps getting worse and worse in addition to the time Azula & Xin Long burnt him if it had any lasting impact, and drawing body horror (+ human autonomy) is both difficult and sickening to me.

Preview: Gladiator Chapter 368
Ozai recalls a distressing day in which his father chose to target someone besides himself for his humiliations: a distraught Ursa, almost all out of patience, lets her temper loose with Ozai as they begin to rebuild bridges tentatively, if for a darker purpose than Ursa realizes right away.
Seethus seeks out Ozai to share the disturbing contents of his conversation with Azula. A new, dark plan occurs to the Fire Lord to ensure the destruction of their foes, though at great cost. Meanwhile, a deeply remorseful Azula pens her very final letter to Sokka...

Gladiator Week 2, Day 1
Favourite characters:
I’ll leave out Sokka and Azula, and focus on some side characters for this one since I took them last year.
Kino
Kino added such a fun, unexpected element to the South Pole story and shook up the dynamic between Aang and Katara. I really like his relationship with Zuko and how both of them became a part of the village. I’m very much looking forward to what lies in his future ;)  @seyaryminamoto and me also have a hilarious inside joke about him that always makes me laugh.
Goro
This one is very new, but I loved Goro the second he first appeared. It’s a bit difficult to explain why I like him so much, but the wise, old, well-meaning scientist with a love for the stars and the night sky is a great archetype to me. His unwavering loyalty to his gladiator is an amazing trait too.
Seethus
Seethus’ abilities are so fascinating to me. New interesting bending possibilities are always a weak spot. It was the same when the ‘Azula can bend through Sokka’ moment happened. It opened up so many new avenues for mind-blowing stuff to happen. But anyways, that’s not a character. There was a post about Seethus recently that @seyaryminamoto answered with details about his backstory and now I find myself thinking what a story with Seethus as a main character could look like...
White Lotus generals: Jeong Jeong, Piandao, etc.
This isn’t really a favourite character, but I’m super curious about the White Lotus leadership in Gladiator and I can’t wait to see more of them in the future. I put Jeong Jeong here because he really intrigued me when he had his standoff with Sokka in chapter 126, and Piandao because I very much look forward to his next meeting with Sokka. They’d have a lot to talk about!

Favorite Character: Azula, easy.
Least Favorite Character (one who’s constantly there): Taro, though him being annoying is the point, I think.
Favorite “Antagonist”: Seethus, though Rhone has had a very interesting arc so far.
Favorite OC: Shoji
Favorite Gladiator: The Millennium Dragon, though that challenge has fallen.
Favorite Suitor or a Suitor I wished would make moves on Azula:
Most Relatable Character: Rui Shi; who has to guard the Princess from herself
Character I’d like to see more: Mari
Favorite Canon (Gladiator canon)Pairing: Yang and Haiyan.
Favorite Non-Canon Pairing: any happy ending for the freedom fighters.
Favorite Arc: There are 4 vying for the top spot; ultimately the Chase of Jeong Jeong beats out Ember island, Rough Rhinos, and Attack of the White Lotus.
Favorite Place/Location: the Royal Dome. You can't have Gladiator without a coliseum.
 Part 1 or Part 2?: Part 1
I wished to see Sokkla more in/like … : The worst kept secret 4: Haru's mother
Guessing Game:
Finish the following sentences:
I think Azula & Sokka’s relationship will be revealed when/like/because of … "What's with that necklace that fell out of your pocket Sokka?" Or "why do you two have matching scars on your hands?"
I believe at the end of Part 3 … is there 3 parts or 4? If only 3: I think it ends up with SAHD Fire Lady Sokka. If there are 4 parts though part 3 ends with a missed period and Sokka (and others?) on the lam.

GladiatorWeek2:
Day 7: Something you look forward to and something you wish(ed) would happen + anything you want to add or say^^
Well, I was always looking forward to Zhaozula. Wedding, Marriage... and all that good stuff. Since the second Reviews Party to be exact='). I am curious about how things will go. Although my enthuisasm subsided.
I also can't wait to see Azula's part in Team Avatar. Like, how she will be friends with them. How will they communicate?? I sense pretty funny things. Especially with Aang^^. Will she kinda join them??
Aaannnd, I am very curious to see something I've always wished to see in ATLA: Azula and Zukos's relationship*_*. Their way through their life as Siblings and as Aunt&Uncle to their Nieces&Nephews. This will be cute to see. Their work for their Nation too. And them working/fighting side by side together for something big.
Of course another thing I am waiting for since the beginning: Azula and Sokka's reunion after everything. Like after they part way's, the first time they meet again. (I can't sadly follow Seyary's advice, because I can't stash hankies for their "parting way's" moment... a bad idea in the current world situation=D)
I also look forward for Sokkla Wedding. Like, will they have two?? Aunt Wu said there will be a Water Tribe one already.
Will we see Sokkla being openly together without hiding?? Then their married life for a time?? They deserve it. And then years later Azula's pregnancy and labor??
Azula and her future father-in-law Hakoda*_*. I definetely wait for this for a long time as well...
Uhh, and the Cave of two Lovers. Yepp, I LOVE that Artwork and can't wait for that Chapter.
What will happen to Anou?? And Seethus?? And Rei?? What will happen to everyone?? Yeah, lots of lots of questions... There might still be many little things I look forward to, but these are currently the most relevant ones I can think of.
Okayyyy, now this part is not so easy to answer for me. Because I will keep some stuff for myself. And for some other stuff I will hope, wait and see. Here's what I can tell you:
I wonder how it would have been if Lu Ten and Kya would live. Though I think if Lu Ten would be alive the Story could go very different ways.
Re-reading made me notice that I should leave certain chapters out completely. Don't need bad memories now. Want to erase some arcs out of my mind. I was also on the party who wishes Sokka wouldn't have done what he did. Especially not with her, but with ... Suki or Hina or no one at all. Can't believe he really went that far... I've just always had a strong distate towards this character, in canon and here. I hope she won't ever show up. Sorry for my honesty, but yeah, it is the truth. It's a bigger shock when you are used to part 2 0_o.
I also would have liked to see more Jet and Chan.
I also thought about how interesting it would have been if Azula would've ended up engaged. Or that she could've married an OC who is Zhao's son instead of Zhao??
Now to what I wish, I really like Azula's Royal Guards and hope they will survive and keep being by her side (being her friends) her. I hope Azula and Rui Shi are going to be happy and friends forever*_*.
I also wish to see some more good Zhao-Azula-Ozai Trio moments. And especially for Zhao to somehow stay an ally a friend for Azula at the end. But Azula & Zhao/Ozai are too complicated to have ideas or wishes ...
Seeing Ozai's vulnerable sides would be very interesting too. His love for Ursa and his final feelings for his daughter. Urzai-Feels.
Azula and Sokka really should go swimming. Back then I thought they would swim in Ember Island=D. And don't ask my why but I like the idea of Azula not being able to swim properly and someone teaching her. Or a girls swimming day together with Mai and Ty Lee. Plus babysitting Yuudai. Yes, she is not good with children but I would like to see her spending time with Yuudai or Zuzu's children.
I'd also like to see more Azula and Jet interactions. There are so many people I wanted Azula to interact with in ATLA. Some of them happened though. Maybe Azula and Ursa too?? Mainly, I am mostly looking forward to everything including our amazing Princess.^^
I would celebrate it if unexpected people join and share Azula's "pursuit goal" and fight alongside her. Like Anou and Chan or Piandao...etc.
I just hope no matter what she will find happiness and comfort. And all in all I wish for Azula to not get hurt (emotionally & physically) and be let down from the ones she loves. The most horrible thing to happen would be if her brother and Sokka would go against her, turn their backs or give up on her. I can't even imagine that.
I think I should stop now. =) So much for the topic "Something ..."

Offences Relating to Children: All you need to know about it
This article is written by Yamini Jain, a student of III year BA LLB at ILS Law College, Pune, and it provides a brief overview of the ‘Offences relating to children’ under the Indian Penal Code, 1860 along with relevant case laws.
Introduction
The offences relating to children under the Indian Penal Code, 1860 include those enlisted under Sections 312- 318, i.e. causing of miscarriage, injuries to unborn children, abandonment & exposure of infants, concealment of births & secret disposal of their dead bodies.
Causing miscarriage
Sections 312, 313 & 314 deal with the offence of causing miscarriage and its aggravated forms, distinguishing the liability into two categories with reference to the woman’s consent and of her being ‘with child’ or ‘quick with child’.
Essential Ingredients
Voluntarily Causing Miscarriage
The provision under the aforesaid Sections is applicable to such cases where miscarriage is voluntarily caused. Section 39 of the IPC defines ‘voluntarily’ as to intentionally cause/ employs such means as known to be likely to cause an effect, thus, intention/mens rea to cause miscarriage is an essential element of this offence.
Woman with Child and Woman Quick with Child
The factum of pregnancy is a prerequisite to the offence. The sections provide distinct liabilities for offences against a woman who is known to be ‘with child’ or ‘quick with child’. In the case of Queen-Empress v. Ademma, it was held that “the moment a woman conceives and the gestation period/ pregnancy begins, the woman is said to be ‘with child’; while in another case of Re: Malayara Seethu, a woman ‘quick with child’ was referred to as a more advanced stage of pregnancy wherein ‘quickening’ is perceived to be the mother’s stimulus to the movement of her foetus. However, an offence against a woman quick with child’ is an aggravated form of that against a woman ‘with child’, and hence, the punishment prescribed for the latter is imprisonment for upto 3 years/ fine/ both, and for the former is upto 7 years with fine.
Miscarriage
Ther term ‘miscarriage’ has not been defined under the IPC and its usage is synonymous to ‘abortion’. In the legal context, miscarriage is the premature expulsion of the product of conception at any time before the full term is reached; while medically, three distinct terms of abortion, miscarriage, and premature labour are used to indicate the expulsion of the foetus at different stages of gestation. ‘Miscarriage’ is particularly used if such expulsion occurs from the fourth to the seventh month, before it’s viable.
Consent of Woman
Sections 312 & 313 deal with the aspect of the woman’s consent against whom such offence is committed. Section 312 envisages the situation where the woman consents to the causing of miscarriage of her foetus and is held equally liable to the committing of such offence with imprisonment of upto 7 years and fine. Section 313, on the other hand, manifests a much graver form of such offence, i.e committed without that woman’s consent and hence is liable to imprisonment for life, or upto 10 years & fine.
Causing of Miscarriage Resulting in Death of Woman
According to Section 314 of the IPC, an act done with the intention of causing miscarriage, when results in the death of such woman, it is an offence liable with imprisonment of upto 10 years and fine. Provided, if the woman was one to be ‘quick with child’, or if such offence was committed without the woman’s consent, then it is considered a more serious offence and hence may be punishable with imprisonment for life. It has to be stated here that intention to cause/ knowledge of the act likely to cause death is not an essential element for it to constitute an offence under this Section, but a direct nexus between the act done and the death of the woman has to be established before the Court.
            Click Above
Exceptions
Exceptions to the offence of causing miscarriage/ abortion are twofold:
Good faith- Section 312 of the IPC exempts such persons who cause miscarriage in good faith (as defined under Section 52) to save the woman’s life.
Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971- It was enacted to legalise the termination of certain pregnancies by registered medical practitioners in order to provide for safe abortions. The Act, prevailing over the aforementioned provisions of IPC, allows a woman to legally abort her pregnancy if its continuance would be injurious to her life (physically/mentally); if the foetus is detected with abnormalities; or if such pregnancy is a result of rape or failure of contraceptives.
Injury to an Unborn Child
Sections 315 & 316 envisage the provisions relating to injury caused to an unborn child. They cover the situations where an act is done with the intention of preventing such child to be born alive; or causing the death of a child who’s quick unborn by an act amounting to culpable homicide.
Essential Ingredients of Section 316
Act to Be Before the Birth of the Child
An essential element under these two provisions is that the culpable act/actus reus should be done before the child is born resulting into the prevention of such child being born alive or cause it to die after its birth. It merely covers injury caused to an unborn child, since whence such act is committed after the birth of the child, it’d be dealt with other provisions of the IPC.
Intention
Section 315 declares that the ‘intention to prevent a child from being born alive/to cause it to die after its birth’ is essential to the offence committed under it, except when done in good faith for the purpose of saving the mother’s life. An offender under this Section shall be liable with imprisonment which may extend to 10 years/fine/both.
Causing Death of Quick Unborn Child by Act Amounting to Culpable Homicide
Section 316 is a graver variant of Section 315, wherein the act is done with the intention/ mens rea to commit an offence amounting to culpable homicide (presumably of the mother), which act though does not cause the death of the mother, but causes the death of a quick unborn child, and is punishable with imprisonment of upto 10 years and fine. Further, if the actus reus results in the death of the mother, then it shall amount to culpable homicide[1].
Abandonment and Exposure of an Infant
Section 317 of the IPC deals with the offence of exposing a child under twelve years of age with an intention of wholly abandoning it, done by a parent or any person having care of it. An offender under this Section shall be liable with imprisonment of upto 7 years/fine/both.
Essential Ingredients of Section 317
Child to Be Under twelve Years
This Section makes provision for the protection of children under twelve years of age as they’re considered inefficient in safeguarding themselves, and applies equally to all children irrespective of their legitimacy. The primary responsibility is cast on the parents & persons holding custody of such a child for the purpose of its care & protection.
Responsibility is on Both Father and Mother or Person Having Care of Such Child
Contrary to the provisions of the Guardians & Wards Act 1890, wherein the father is declared as the natural guardian of the child, the IPC as per Section 317 equally obliges both the father & mother alike to provide care & protection to the child, irrespective of the child being born in/outside wedlock.
Section 317 also places a similar duty & liability, as imposed upon the parents of the child, on the person made responsible for the care & protection of the child, and hence, daycare centres, creches, orphanages, etc. are all included under it[2].
Exposing or Leaving with Intention to Abandon
The essence of this provision of the IPC is ‘exposing/leaving’ the child along with an ‘intention to abandon’ it. The term ‘leave’ must be read ejusdem generis with ‘expose’, as together they denote the explicit meaning of this Section, declaring that leaving of the child in danger, neglecting it, and inadequately protecting it from naturally hazardous elements.
Further, it manifests that such exposure/leaving of the child must be accompanied with the intention of abandonment of the child. It, therefore, indicates not merely leaving the child temporarily, it should have been done with the required intention to constitute an offence under this Section.
Death of Child As a Consequence of the Exposure
The explanation to Section 317 stipulates that whence the death of a child under 12 years of age is caused because of the aforementioned exposure/leaving, then the parent or such person in whose care the child was placed, shall be held liable for the offence of culpable homicide or that amounting to murder. However, it is essential to note that the death so caused must be a proximate consequence of such unlawful exposure/abandonment and should’ve been done with the knowledge that it’s likely to cause such death.
Concealment of Birth of a Child
Section 318 of the IPC deals with a situation where a person intentionally endeavours to conceal a child’s birth by secretly burying or disposing of the dead body of the child, irrespective of the death occurring before/after/during its birth. A person convicted under this Section shall be liable with imprisonment which may extend to 2 years/fine/both.
Essential Ingredients of Section 318
Secret Disposal of Bodies of Children
In accordance with the general policy of publicising births & deaths, the Registration of Births & Deaths Act, 1969 imposes a compulsion upon every person to register births and deaths with the local authorities, since the certificates issued for it are rather essential for various civil transactions. Detection & prevention of infanticide is one of the prominent principles operating behind this provision. Moreover, Section 318 while recognising the secret burial of the child’s body circumscribes all other methods of it being secretly disposed of.
Dead Body of Child
The term ‘body’ in this Section indicates a precondition that the secret burial/disposal should be of the dead body of the child, i.e. the child should not be a mere embryo/foetus but should’ve been developed and matured. Further, in the case of Radha v. State of Rajasthan, it was held that if the child were alive at the time of such secret burial/ disposal, then no offence would be made out under this Section, but would attract other provisions of the IPC.
Conceals or Endeavours to Conceal Birth
An essential element stipulated by this Section is that of the intention of the accused to conceal/attempt to conceal the birth of the child. The offence becomes complete when the birth of the child, dead/living, is concealed by any means.
Conclusion
It is understood that the offences enumerated in the aforementioned sections have been accentuated by the social pressures and value-based judgments on unwed mothers. Though the male members are equally responsible, the social stigma & ostracisation is placed on the woman only, which in turn leads a woman to abort her child. Further, the situation of abandonment of children/infanticide is mostly seen in respect of female children only. Unless this social attitude changes and social reforms are brought in good measure, all of us at large hold a moral responsibility for these offences committed against children.

Preview: Gladiator Chapter 376
As the Palace is vacated urgently, Sokka and Azula take an essential detour to Xin Long's refuge: the dragon awaits them, eager for his freedom, more so now that all their lives are endangered by Seethus's final mission.
The Gladiator ponders how to limit the destruction, but the Princess comes up with a potential solution for their predicament: as Sokka lingers on the ground, leading allied and enemy troops alike to contain the damage, Princess Azula takes to the sky, in a final bid to defeat Seethus's spiritual corruption, whatever the cost...

omg ;_; you make this guy way too loveable! Thank you for the adorable art! Baby Azula always is welcome, look at that little mischief-maker, sneaking into places where she shouldn't <3
(... and yes, she most likely has accidentally crossed paths with Seethus many times and not noticed! Just started picking up on his presence by the time the story began...)
Tumblr media
In ch.129 Ozai mentioned that Azula had explored the top of the tower when she was little, implying that she sneaked inside Si's room at some point. I was just imagining what that visit had been like. (She kind of opened all the boxes until she found something exciting. She also admired the scenery outside the window.)
With that said, I'm both relieved and disappointed that he didn't play 'hide and seek' with Rei and Song. Therefore this made me more comfortable posting this art.

200. Gladiator Chapter
@seyaryminamoto
The incredible length of Gladiator is a great accomplishment by itself, especially if you consider the writing quality. I think, except for general praises of narrative, character development, writing, etc., it’s difficult to make sweeping, detailed statements about Gladiator as a whole due its length and the sheer amount of topics and narrative structures it has. I’ve already talked a lot about what I enjoy about it in comments on the story itself. It’s definitely in my unordered Top 5 of best fanfictions I’ve ever read, but it also made a big impact on me personally.
Favourite character: I think I’ve said all the main character for this question already, so my answer this time is Xin Long, Goro and my problematic fave Seethus.
Least favourite character: I like every character, even the ones you’re supposed to dislike. Yes, Hahn is annoying, but he’s entertaining. The only character that doesn’t have a redeeming quality is Kuan.
Favourite antagonist: Definitely Seethus because of his potential as a turn coat
Favourite OC: all 3 of my favourites are OCs, so I’ll let that stand
Favourite gladiator: Anyone who waterbends, but the Notorious Stingray specifically
Favorite Suitor or a Suitor I wished would make moves on Azula: This is such a weird question for a fic that’s firmly Azula/Sokka... but I guess June making moves on Azula would be hilarious.
Most Relatable Character: Sokka
Character I’d like to see more: Goro because science and Seethus because I’d like to explore his abilities further.
Favorite Canon (Gladiator canon)Pairing: Sokka/Azula and [Redacted]/[Redacted] :D
Favorite Non-Canon Pairing: Another odd question... but the right answert is Kino/Azula for sure.
Favorite Arc: Difficult one! I really liked the latest Shu Jing arc, but Fire Festivals was a favourite too
Favorite Place/Location: Hot springs ;D
Part 1 or Part 2?: 2
I wished to see Sokkla more in/like … : Dressing up is very fun. Otherwise, there’s not much that I like which hasn’t already been done or won’t happen in the future. Maybe more interactions with waterbending or other dragons.
I think Azula & Sokka’s relationship will be revealed when/like/because of …: Them having sex in public. It’s bound to happen eventually :D
I believe at the end of Part 3 …: I think I know too much :)

"Azula…" he called her, upon noticing she was about to leave. The Princess froze, most unwillingly "You do realize that, regardless of whatever conflicts we may have, this is still your home, don't you?"
She glanced at her father, her emotions betraying her now. She had managed to remain stoic through their conversation, but by now the mask of impassiveness had broken entirely. There were very few people who could trigger her emotional responses with ease… but Ozai was certainly amongst them.
...
"I'm not ready yet" Azula blurted out. Ozai frowned "I… can't stop thinking about him. I can't stop resonating to make sure he's not near me. I…"
"Seethus won't harm you, Azula" Ozai interrupted her "He is not a violent man by nature. He merely does what I ask him to. And if you fear I would ask him to hurt you, torment you, be that as it may… then perhaps it is time for you to remember, child, that I am not just your Fire Lord. I am your father, too. I do not wish harm upon you"
"I remember as much, Father" Azula said, gritting her teeth "I never thought you did. I just… I can't feel at ease when I know he could be lurking anywhere" Chapter 167

And this man makes me emotional too very often... these two really...
"Did my father ask you to beg me to come home, by any chance?"
"Well, no" said the Sage, and Azula wanted to chastise herself for feeling her stomach sink upon that answer. Why would she want her father to beg her to come home? What on earth was wrong with her? Craving his acceptance and love had been a fine motivator in life up until he had proven to be a much worse man than what she had always thought he was.

This girl manages to make me emotional almost everytime.
