absolutely LOVE hiraeth and everything about them! their lore has me so invested and i love how you have and talk about it! quick question if you don’t mind, but how did you come up with hiraeth’s lore? i’m currently working on a group and their lore so i would love some advice/tips from the loremaster themselves! have a good day/night!

aaaaaaa! u have no idea how happy this ask makes me because not only is their lore is my pride and joy, but it just makes me soooo happy to know that someone is enjoying my group! :D also, loremaster? that made me giggle and kick my feet, not gonna lie... and of course i wouldn’t mind, it actually flatters me that ur asking me. :) i’ll put all the yapping under a read more so i don’t disturb the dash, but if you have more questions or an @ to drop (because i need to know what u are cooking), just let me know, either in dms or here.

before i start, i just want to mention (and sorry if i sound like a broken record to those who skim through my yapping posts) that i created hiraeth because a friend and i thought it’d be fun to throw our ship into an idol au. you could say that hiraeth and their lore grew from that ship, as we thought it would be fun if there was a kind of “call and response” theory between the two groups. while this didn't really need to be said, some of hiraeth’s essence definitely comes from the little world we built together.

finding a group name that fit was essential, i think. when my friend and i started brainstorming, i only had a rough idea of what i wanted, which was a mix of red velvet, loona, dreamcatcher, exo, and aespa. i wanted angels! garden of eden! magical girls! a group that was deemed as a cult! some horror! the concept of the two sides of the same coin! more than what meets the eye! but funny enough, i didn’t really see the whole picture until i finally settled on the name hiraeth. the word means a homesickness for a feeling you can’t return to, a feeling that maybe never was. that’s when i realized i wanted hiraeth to capture not exactly my initial ideas, but i wanted the meaning to actually make sense, so my idea started to expand until i finally settled into what i have now. and i’m sure my ideas will keep expanding as time goes on!

i was also inspired by my two ults, red velvet and loona, especially loona’s unit yyxy. and, yes, i 100% admit i was deep in those loonaverse reddits trying to get a feel for what i wanted because i wanted something like that. my lore started out very similar to theirs, just with some changes because who was going to check me! only my friend and i knew about the group so i could totally get away with it! but, as some may know, i got really attached to the idea of them and the potential of their lore, and as time went on and i got a clearer idea of what i wanted (thanks to pinterest, video games, photography/photoshoots, books, tiktok edits, music, my ship, and even the bible and no i'm not joking), their lore slowly started to evolve into whatever i have going on. don’t be harsh on urself if ur “base” idea isn’t as developed as u'd like or if it’s similar to something ur taking inspiration from, u just need to let the creative juices do their thing, even if it takes time.

another tip: always write down ur ideas, and if something makes u think, “oh! this would fit into their lore!” immediately jot it down, so u can look back at it and find a way to work it in. for example, hiraeth is a little bit of everything i’ve enjoyed or found interesting in literally everywhere, even if it has nothing to do with the idol scene or the girls themselves— let it be a quote or a video game arc or even just a single picture. everything is an inspiration if u look close enough.

now, poppy, kaia, and yvan are characters i’m really attached to (especially poppy) since they’ve been with me for a very long time. so, i thought it’d be really fun if their lore actually mirrored their actual personalities and struggles, like a subtle reflection of their thoughts, actions, pasts, secrets, and their current life that is being showcased to everyone in the eyes of an overly-exaggerated visage of themselves. obviously, the lore is really extra and not literal but their actual essence is there, you know? almost as if they are building up their own fantasy book with themselves as main characters! their fans can’t pick up on any of this because they don’t know the girls deeply, but… little spoiler, i guess? i don’t know if this makes sense so i will show some little examples below:

summer realizes that she, spring, and winter can almost become god-like once they begin to "sin," leading them down a path she believes is "better" for them. but she doesn’t fully see that some paths might not be the best, as their sins (especially hers) cast a shadow over them, keeping her from thinking it all through and sometimes getting them in trouble—on the other hand, kaia sees that she and her members could achieve so much more once nari is out of the picture. as their leader, she earns their trust by guiding them to see beyond the empty promises of an abusive management that didn’t care for them the way she did. yet, they’re still being held back as a sense of guilt looms over them and their careers, making every move feel risky. this burden falls the heaviest on kaia, who made a drastic choice for the sake of herself and her members.

spring feels stuck, with no real desire to “bloom” after things went wrong the first time she “sinned.” she feels the urge to make a change and stir the ship, but hesitates to the point of doing nothing—versus poppy, who feels trapped as an idol facing high expectations, especially as a chronically ill woman carrying deep trauma. though she doesn’t particularly like being in the spotlight, she remains in the “safe” zone because it feels like the only secure option, and it is because she does a really good job at her job because if she’s going to be forced to do something, then she’s going to be the best at it.

winter treats everything as a joke, believing that everything will always go their way because they’ve been convinced that they’re the "center of the universe." that is, until spring’s warmth reaches them, revealing that not everything is perfect and that there’s more to life outside their own bubble—versus yvan, whose high popularity and top-tier status changed how they see the world. however, yvan has been learning that things won’t always go their way, and that support won’t always be there. poppy herself is a reminder that someone “better” will always be around, even if many hold yvan higher than her. random but i loooooooove their relationship because it’s a whole always an angel, never a god situation.

the ‘aengel cult’ started when the angels left behind their old doctrines, preaching individuality, self-love, and self-expression instead of sharing words that didn’t resonate within themselves—versus hiraeth’s fans, who are deemed a cult because of their intense loyalty towards them, but also because of how fucking defensive they are towards the aes because the music, the concept, their vibes, and the girls themselves are TWE GOOD not to defend! they are not as insane as *rmys / bl*nks / st*ys though… they are pretty funny and just don’t take anything seriously but when someone calls The Never Has Flopped Group a Flop…

and yes, i know. that is really fucking extra and literally this is something u literally didn't ask, but that’s what makes creating lore fun! be extra!!!!!!! do ur own little twist if that’s what u want!!!!! don’t limit yourself and overthink it, friend! it’s your group and your lore, so have some fun and do whatever you want <3

ALSO A LITTLE REMINDER! it literally took me a year to feel content with their lore, so don’t rush it. the creative juices will come to u eventually. :)

I am *so glad* to see positive takes on Nate/Keito as a character, if you have any more headcanons don't hesitate to share them! They are very much wanted!(Your Nate art popped up on my dash and it made me remember how much more this boy deserved)

Anon you have no idea how happy it makes me to be able to just put this out there Nate is one of my biggest comfort characters.

He does care about whisper and jibanyan but often struggles to express it which ends up leading to confrontation with the three

Lets people make fun of him because he’s too afraid to start any fights with humans (no shame to the guy but he’d lose)

ok maybe im dumb but i finally checked ur pinned post instead of just eating up the stuff u put on my dash like candy (you make and reblog good posts a lot) and i discovered that u and @septiccoffeefreak are in fact in the same system and

how do u guys handle posting to tumblr? do u each use a different sideblog? or have fully separate accounts? i've never encountered a system that used more than one blog at once so ur v cool for that.

you dont actually have to answer me if you think the question is too invasive

THIS IS A LONG ANSWER AND PROLLY WITH LOTS OF TYPOS BECAUSE IT'S LATE SO IT GOES UNDER THE CUT BUT I AM HAPPY TO YAP ABOUT THIS

We have entirely separate accounts!!! We actually have seperate emails as well!!! :D

Our system has:

My email

Seán's email

The core (original)'s email

Collective email

And our accounts tend to be split about the same way!! So like, me and Seàn have separate Pinterest and Tumblr accounts, and we have separate "profiles" on the Nintendo switch and the games on there (different Splatoon accounts, different skins and gamertags saved to the same Minecraft account because Nintendo Minecraft is cool like that, different animal crossing villagers). Our core has her own stuff too. Other alters could technically have their own stuff if they want but they don't front as often as we do so they just... don't really bother.

Alternatively, we'll have

General system account

Me and Seán SHARED account (on AO3 this is "Mishka_Blackbear" or smthn like that)

Core account

Or a combo, something like:

General system account

Me and Seán shared account

Seperate account for me

Seperate account for Seán

Core account

That last one is the setup for YouTube. me and Seán use a shared account for....most of everything tbh, and separate ones for uploading stuff AND for videos we know the other wouldn't like so we can keep it off the recommended for our shared one (so Seán will switch to his solo account if he wants to watch a horror thing, but if we're watching something together, which is post of the time, we'll use our shared account). Our core has her own. Everyone else has a collective account.

Clothes? Same story. I have my side of the closet and Seán has his. Our core keeps her clothes in their own container. Everything else goes in the dresser.

Phone profiles are different. Motorola phones allow you to save different "users" to one phone, but our phone only has two users: everyone else, and the core. Although again, other alters don't usually front, so the everyone else account is basically ours anyway?? This is the only example I can think of where there's so separate space for the rest of the system.

But all in all, most of our alters average for front times between a few seconds and two hours. Our core used to host, but nowadays she only tends to front for two to six hours (although we're trying to work her up to more so she can host again (not replacing us- just on the same level as me and Seán, with an even split between us) and she recently hit a record for the first time in years of 8 hours!!!) and me and Seán will front together, passing controls back and forth with the other watching or keeping company in headspace, anywhere from a few days to a whole month without stopping- although once we get to a month we usually get snippy and overstimulated and HAVE to stop fronting for at least a little while in order to be healthy.

So this means that a majority of them will only front like once or twice a year for a really short period of time and then only be seen in headspace and not actually front, or just straight up go dormant for a while, which is why they don't have separate accounts like we do. I think some of them have side profiles under the main collective Tumblr, but I don't know which ones or how many. I do know they have their own Pinterest boards on the collective Pinterest.

Anyway if we see something on the other person's dashboard that we like we can ask them to send it, but also if we're tuned out and not paying attention while the other is scrolling, we'll still sometimes send each other "gifts" of posts we know the other will like. We'll also sometimes go to the other person's blog and look through original post tags and reblog anything we didn't have a chance to before, because we like boosting each other's posts AND we also like interacting on them :3. We tag each other a lot but we also DM a lot.

My love language is gift giving so I'm the most guilty of this, I'll send Seán hundreds of posts and so sometimes they pile up, and then he avoids opening DMs until he has a big block of time to sit down and go through them all- which is when he adds like 90 posts to his queue or reblogs a bunch of things really fast; if he suddenly posts rapid fire reblogs of old posts on his Tumblr it's probably because he opened all the posts I sent him and started reblogging them one after the other to get through the pile of love offerings lol.

But that's how we handle that, since I'm sure the question of "what if you like a post but don't want to log out and log in and go through all that hassle to reblog it?" Will probably come up in ppls minds. That's what- we go "OOOH can you send that to me" and the other one goes "yea" and sends it so when we log in again we can reblog it. Same with gifts, we see something and think the other person will like it and it gets DMed to their account :3

It's been a few weeks since you met that dashing skeleton, Stretch, at Grillby's. After taking a few days, you worked your hardest and finally managed to fix up that old barn. Now she looks good as new, and you..need to find something else to do.

You sit in your house, kicking your legs back and forth as you lie on your stomach on your couch. Some random show plays on the tv in front of it you recognize, but you're not really focusing on it since you're facing your left scrolling through your phone. Nothing really sticks out to you, searching for something of interest before you see a little notification pop down from someone. You miss it the first time, pulling down the top of your screen and realizing it's from Stretch.

You sit up abruptly on your knees, shifting to face the tv and letting your legs rest on the wood floor. It's always nice to see what he's up to.

You hop up from your seat on the couch, petting one of your dogs who'd decided to lie down in front of the couch and walking into your room to change.

"Okay, he..he lives on a ranch?? Well, I guess I should've gotten that from the cowboy getup, huh? I should probably wear somethin' I'm okay with gettin' dirty.." You browse through your closet, picking out some casual clothes that'll keep you cool and comfortable in the summer heat.

"Time to go." You walk out of your room, playing some music from the stereo in your living room and giving your dogs some pets before bidding them goodbye. You walk out to your truck and climb inside, turning the key and beginning to drive to the location you set your GPS to. A few familiar songs play while you make your way down several sets of roads. You promptly bop your head to them, lip syncing some of the words.

You knew you were at the right place the moment you saw it. The house was huge based on what you could see from the gate as you drove up to it, plenty of land surrounding it with fences up to keep any unwanted visitors out. You see a familiar shade of orange pop up as the skeleton opens the gate, walking over to your window and leaning his arms on it.

"howdy. glad you could make it, didn't get lost did you?" "Nope, got here a-okay. This place is massive- are you guys loaded or something?" You ask, flabbergasted. He chuckles at that, looking back at the house. "well, it just kinda happened when we exchanged monster currency for human currency. so I guess you could say we are." "Jesus." "you can go ahead and pull up wherever, it doesn't matter." He stands on the step just below your door, holding on. You smile at the action, driving further in and parking in a spot next to someone else's car.

He jumps down onto the ground and lets you get out, closing the door behind yourself and locking it before jumping down too.

You hear a faint "Hello!" in the distance as someone runs over, grinning wide. A skeleton, a pretty large one at that yet shorter than Stretch. His attire is pretty similar to the former, only his is buttoned up much more neatly and is blue rather than orange. Stretch's top button is currently loose, exposing a little bit of his sternum. You also notice how the two stick to one color scheme, Stretch sticking with orange and this one sticking to blue specifically.

"you're in luck, they just got here." "Yes, I'm Not Late! Hello, There! I'm Stretch's Brother, Blue. We Live Together Close To Some Of Our Friends." "It's nice to meet you, Blue. I'm.." You tell him your name, and the two of you chat about this and that before Stretch steals you away to show you around. You both walk around different parts of the ranch before you decide to go and visit the animals, saying hello to each of them promptly.

"You have so many horses-" "like. ten of them." "JESUS-" You pause, looking towards one, before turning back to him with a smile.

"..what?" He raises a brow, smiling as well with crossed arms as he observes you. "..Can we ride one?" "..you want to ride one?" "Yes- please-" "i mean, yeah, i don't see why not. though, we'd probably have to ride together. are you okay with that? if not, i can figure something out." "I'm okay with that. Won't bother me." "alright, just gimme a sec."

You wait patiently as he goes to get a proper saddle, walking over to a few horses and letting them smell your hands so they know to trust you. One in particular takes a liking to you, a black horse with a stripe of white from its muzzle to its forehead. It nuzzles its nose against the side of your head until Stretch returns, smiling as he walks over.

"somebody's attached. no, you can't bring the horse home with you." "Aww-" You fake pout, before smiling and gently petting its head. "but, you can come back to visit." "You bet I will." A determined look crosses your face. "you wanna ride this one?" He points with his thumb. "Yes- if they are okay with that, of course."

He nods, and after a few seconds the horse is saddled and ready to go.

"so, you're gonna have to sit in front of me. is that alright?" "Yeah, that's fine." "alright, cool."

He helps you get up onto the horse first. It's a bit of a strange sensation at first, but you gradually get used to it. He then climbs up and sits comfortably behind you and the saddle, gently taking hold of the reins. Feeling his arms around your waist has you feeling a bit flushed, your face heating up a bit as you hope he doesn't notice.

"comfortable?" He speaks calmly so as to not spook the horse, his head just above your shoulder. A shiver goes down your spine accompanied by an anxious smile. "Y- ..Yeah, I'm all good." You mutter, cursing yourself internally for stuttering as you hear him chuckle behind you. You don't realize at first when the horse starts to move before you snap out of a daze, looking ahead with a smile.

You feel..safe with his arms around you, even as you're very flushed. You can just blame it on the heat if he asks. What you don't know, however, is that he seems to be fairly flushed himself..a bright shade of orange lightly making its way over his cheekbones. He keeps his lazy smile as he looks over you, making sure you're alright and comfortable.

Blue has a cheeky grin as he watches you both ride around the field, leaning his arms on one of the fences.

His hold on your waist tightens a little when the horse picks up its speed, causing your face to heat up even more before that feeling is overcome by excitement. You cheer as it runs, carrying you both around.

This continues for a little while before both the two of you and the horse become tired. Stretch slides off and helps you jump down, guiding the horse back to where it can rest.

"That was fun! I wouldn't mind doing it again." "..maybe you can, next time you come over." "Yeah." You avert your eyes, your face admittedly still a little flushed. You can't fully bring yourself to meet his gaze until he reaches up to get some grass out of your hair.

"i wouldn't mind." He smirks, his eyes relaxed as he looks at you. You clear your throat. "Yeah, uh..looking forward to it." You smile in return as Blue walks over to greet you both.

"Why Don't You Guys Come Inside? I'd Love For You To Stay For Dinner. We Can Talk More!" He suggests with a friendly smile. You look over briefly at Stretch for a moment before turning back to him.

"Yeah, I'm cool with that. I'd better get home before dark, though. I've got dogs waiting at home for me." "you have dogs?" Stretch perks up, curious. "Yeah, two." "i wanna pet 'em-" "Well, maybe you can visit me next."

He grins as Blue guides you both inside, gently closing the door behind him.
