it pisses me off so bad how many feminists fall for the decriminalization model for prostitution when it is CLEARLY propaganda for a model that ONLY benefits pimps and johns. like oh what if we had a system where the sex industry is entirely unregulated and anyone can do whatever they want i wonder who that benefits!!! it is esp CRAZY to me how they critique the legalization model (which i don’t like but is still better than decriminalization) by saying um it is actually too stigmatizing to sex workers to have regulations put on them 🥺 as if??? almost every industry is not heavily regulated by the government???? now why is it stigmatizing for sex workers to have regulations in place for their work but it isn’t for like? construction workers or miners or farmers or anyone who wants to open a business ever 🤔 the decriminalization model only serves to further isolate prostituted women & trafficked women by having the government say well it is all out of our hands have fun! and they CLAIM oh the police will help bc being a sex worker won’t be illegal. oh yes just like the police have ALWAYS helped when prostituted women have been murdered for instance (never). the stigmatization and dehumanization these women face will not magically go away if it is decriminalized. the police won’t magically care abt these women just bc what they do is no longer illegal. ppl don’t dislike prostitutes bc what they are doing is illegal it’s bc they view them as morally fallen women who have no worth in society. the ONLY ones who actually benefit from this model are pimps who could do whatever they want to the women they are selling and johns who can do whatever they want to the women they are buying. while the women have no means of fighting for their own rights bc oh you wanted the industry to have no regulations right? why would the government get involved now? and feminists close their eyes to this bc their definition of “listening to sex workers” is listening to the ones whose voices are the loudest bc they are the propaganda to promote the extremely profitable sex industry. endlessly frustrating.
