Helloooo! ^_____^ I went on a trip to Bangkok, the land of Bambam (he’s part of Got7, a kpop group) from 5-9 April this year and I wanted to make a post talking about where we went and what we did there. I don’t know who will be interested in this post, but I wanted to do it anyway. I went with my parents and two of my best friends, and it was the greatest trip ever.

 Tips and other things:
Try to get data so you have internet, it is very useful in this maze of a city.
Google maps is essentially useless. We used it to go back to our hotel, because the cab drivers didn’t speak english, and one second it shows 31 minutes, and in the next one minute it goes to 21, and then back to 31. It was innacurate most of the time, which was surprising, because its so useful everywhere else. We put directions to a restaurant, and it said to take a certain left, and when the driver did, it said we were 9 kms away, which was a bummer, we didn’t go there.
Keep your hotel card with you when you’re outside. Believe me, that is the only reason we were confident enough to stay out till 9 or 10 p.m. The drivers do not understand what you’re saying, and sometimes I was certain we were lost, the guy took a wrong turn and ended up taking us 20 minutes further away from the hotel. They can see the address in Thai and take you with no doubts. Always keep it for safety.
Keep water with you, or keep buying something to drink, the weather is terrible, you have to keep hydrated.
If you want to use google translate to see what ingredients are in something you’re buying, don’t bother, its shitty. Google translating anything is useless, to be honest, nothing is accurate. Try asking the staff, hopefully they’ll know.
Use sunscreen :p
Take food with you in case you end up not finding anything like us. My mom said she’d bring maggi and I said nooooooo we’ll get stuff at 7 eleven’s, boy was I wrong, I regret it.
Try avoiding jeans. You will die of heat, legit. I wore jeans on one day out of five and that was more than enough, I couldn’t handle it. My brave friends wore them multiple times, I think I just have zero tolerance for jeans, its my fault. But seriously, try wearing loose clothes that are breathable.
Carry snacks with you when you go somewhere, you never know how long it’ll take in traffic. Once, it took us one hour to cover what is normally a 20 minute distance.
this is such a cliche, but hAVE FUN. Take pictures of everything, it really is a very pretty city, capture everything, but also just look outside, or you might miss out on the insanely intricate architecture, it’s brilliant.
Hotel ♦ We stayed at the Royal Suite Hotel, it was amazing. They have serviced apartments, which made it so much more convenient than a normal hotel. The staff were all very sweet and helped us get cabs every day, at any time we wanted. They even made us vegetarian food when we asked for it, which was great. There is a 7 Eleven right opposite the street which was great, because we kept getting peckish so we ran out for snacks all the time :p My friend (Nabi) and I went there twice in our pj’s, feeling homeless, but it was fun xD
 outside the hotel
Food ♦ It was very difficult to get vegetarian food, I must say. We went to a cafe the first day and asked for something veg, and the woman said they have a cheese sandwich, so we asked her if it was vegetarian and she said yes yes its just cheese and pork…. so YEAH, we learned our lesson and had to say ‘no meat, no fish’every single time we asked for food. Jokes aside though, they were very sweet and made us cheese and tomato sandwiches ^___^ The same day, at a mall, this restaurant said they have vegetarian food so we went in there and ordered Thai food. Authentic Thai food. Lets just say, we were all still hungry and thus began the yearning for home food, literally on the first day. We had green curry fried rice, which I LOVED; pad thai, which tasted like sugar syrup but still okay, and some Hong Kong noodles which were not the best. At least they had veg food so it was fine. Both my friends eat meat, and even they couldn’t handle the smell of some of the street food over there. We had to run across alleys because of how strong the smell was. ** Special shoutout to 7 eleven snacks. Banana bread, custard filled buns, chocolate swiss roll, POCKY!!!! Everything that we could eat was sweet, but very yummy.
Drinks ♦ Being in Bangkok without a drink is practically a sin. I’m serious. You NEED something to drink throughout the day or you will get dehydrated in a matter of hours. Thanks to the multiple 7 elevens, we always had something with us. We had quite a few different drinks I will insert pictures for examples.
We had strawberry fanta, grape fanta, and oh, meiji milks :’) They are so tasty, and come in tiny little bottles so you can pop them in your bag and go. One thing I loved in the city was how every drink, can, cup or bottle, came with a straw, you can sip and go, its the best. We also had copious amounts of bubble teas, and other drinks from the 7 elevens. We had the best bubble tea at Coco’s, the amount you get for such a low price is amazing AND THE TASTE.
what we drank as soon as we landed there
The 7 elevens all have drink machines and three sizes of cups; you just fill and bill (that should be their tagline). I had some chocolate milkshake type thing, it was yummy; Nabi had the latte, she loved it too; my mom had the cappucino. We thrived on beverages. I love that they had so many flavours to choose from, whether it was tea, soda or shakes. I also had iced chocolate near Pratunam market, and Nabi had iced coffee- basically a (large) cup full of ice, into which they pour the drink. It gets diluted really quickly, so you have to drink it in minutes and face the brain freeze, it’s worth it. It’s also really cheap, probably because its mostly just ice. Here’s a fun fact, when we went to the concert (MORE ON THAT LATER), I saw two overturned dustbins, and there was no food in it, it was absolutely chock full of drink cups, it was fascinating. Bottomline, don’t worry about being thirsty because every single street you go through will have some shop or the other selling drinks, you’ll be perfectly fine.
Sights to see ♦ We went on a day tour, and covered three places- two temples and a gems gallery.
~ Golden Buddha Temple (Wat Traimit). We had the cutest, most wonderful and patient guide that day, her name was Sai/Psy, she enacted both and we don’t know the spelling :p Anyway, she told us the story of the temple. Centuries ago, the statue was covered in plaster and bits of coloured glass, 1. to make it look good and 2. to conceal the fact that the inside was complete solid gold. The people hid it underwater to save it from being stolen, and when they found it, years later, discovered that it was gold because the plaster had started to chip off. Now it’s on display of course. It is a lovely temple, it has multiple Buddha statues, and a place on top where you can drop coins into large ‘bowls’ and make a wish :’)
the outside
~ Marble Temple (Wat Benchamabophit). This is probably the most peaceful and calm temple I’ve ever been to. Everybody minds their own business, it is clean, they have benches, a water sprinkler thing near a small bridge, it is beautiful. This temple had an Ordination Hall, which we could see, and 52 Buddha statues from different locations, showing different mudras. This whole temple is picturesque and has gorgeous architecture.
~ Gems Gallery International Manufacturer. This place is known for its agenda of dispelling myths about fake gems, and shows the entire process of the making of real gems. The people who work on cleaning and preparing the gems to make jewellery are all sat in an area where visitors can watch. The gallery inside showcases jewellery made of rubies, sapphires, topaz, amethysts, diamonds, among others. The rings and earrings are so pretty, and the guide told us the gallery gives the buyers certificates to say that it is a genuine gem that they’ve bought and not fake, to show at customs.
Fashion♦ I had to put this in separately, solely to talk about how cool their fashion is. Everybody wears light, muted tones, and look so classy, its not fair how effortlessly everyone pulls off such simple clothes. Simple skirts with shirts, t-shirts tucked into shorts, pretty pretty dresses. Barely anyone wears jeans there, given the weather, I suppose. The clothes sold are also so unique and you will rarely find the same stuff outside of Thailand. Quirky t-shirts with logos, fun little Japanese/Korean style inspired stuff, and oh god, the accessories are to die for. I also noticed that they don’t go overboard with their outfits, they’re usually in plain clothes, or simple prints, nothing too loud or in your face. I think taking one trip to Thailand can do wonders in inspiring your style and how you can put together a simple, elegant and cute outfit. It sure did for me!
