ho ho ho, classic rock fans! Christmas is coming and so is The Secret Rocker Santa project! if you are looking for an opportunity to make new friends who love classic rock, or just want to make someone happy, this is your chance!

What is Secret Rocker Santa?

Secret Rocker Santa is a tumblr-wide “match-maker” in which you will anonymously send asks to (and hopefully befriend!) a tumblr user who is assigned to you. you will also be assigned to someone else, who will send anonymous asks to you. the event will run from december 1st through december 25th. while this might seem complicated, it’s actually quite simple, and you will only need to answer a minimum of two questions to sign up.

How it works:

you must read these instructions!

the deadline to sign up is november 28th. there are two ways that you can sign up: the first option is to sign up via google forms. the second option is to send me a submission (or an ask) with your completed questionnaire (found here). while the first two questions are required, you can otherwise provide as much or as little information as you want.

please reblog this post! (this isn’t a strict requirement, but it would be greatly appreciated and helps to ensure that enough people will participate!)

your ask box must be open to anyone! this means that anon asks will have to be enabled. if you want, you can wait until the first day of the project (december 1st) to change this setting, but please make sure you remember!

your blog doesn’t have to be classic rock-related, you just need to be a fan. (we will also be using a very broad definition of “classic rock,” so nearly any music from 1950s-1990s counts.)

(those are the main things you need to know, but more details + some helpful tips are below the cut!!)

shortly after signing up you will be assigned a number — you probably won't need it for anything, but it's a backup way for me to keep track of who is who in case we run into any problems :)

during the last days of november, i will be assigning people to their Secret Rocker Santas. you will receive a message from me telling you who you have been assigned to, either in the form of an ask or direct message.

you will start messaging the person assigned to you ANONYMOUSLY on the 1st of december and continue until Christmas (december 25th), which is when you will reveal your identity and (hopefully) have made a new friend!

you can send your partner whatever you want (as long as you do not reveal your identity). your job is to make your partner feel happier! (some ideas: send lyrics, pictures, or facts; play games, chat, and of course do things that are not only associated with classic rock).

be careful - make sure you are messaging your assigned partner anonymously.

please tag messages that you receive from your secret santa and any other related posts as #SRS23, so your santa will be able to find your answers more easily.

EXTRA REMINDERS:

some people might get more than one santa or will be assigned to more than one person, depending on how many people participate and how many suitable matches i have for certain people. if you are certain you will not be able to be a secret santa for two people, please mention this when you submit your form (you can also let me know if you would prefer to be a santa for two or more people! anyone who volunteers for this will get first pick if the need arises)

if you’re not committed to sending asks to your partner and/or responding to your santa at least a few (2-3) times a week, please do not sign up.

while the primary focus of this project is classic rock, any additional interests you list may be used as a secondary way of helping to find a good match for you. with that in mind, don’t hesitate to list any interests and hobbies you might have, whether they relate to classic rock or not! this will especially come in handy if there are many applicants who like a particular band, or if i am having trouble finding a match for you based on your favorite bands.

if your santa has not contacted you in over a week, message me and i will gently remind them or find you another one.

as a general rule, be nice! anyone who is rude to the another participant will be removed from the project.

make sure to answer all of your santa’s messages! you don’t have to answer right away, but don’t ignore them.

please let me know if you experience any problems at all (for example, if i have made a mistake, or you are having problems with either your own santa or the person you are assigned to)

if you are not already following your partner’s blog, you probably shouldn’t do it right away, because they might guess that you are their santa.

it’s useful to have an easy-to-find “about me” page or pinned post so that your santa will have a better chance of finding something to talk to you about!

please try to keep a note of who you’ve been assigned to, as well as your assigned number!

IF YOU CHANGE YOUR URL AT ANY TIME DURING THE PROJECT PLEASE LET ME KNOW. if you don’t let me know about your new URL (or otherwise make it clear that you have moved), i will not be able to assign matches for you.

please be patient! i will assign matches and answer questions as quickly as possible, but please keep in mind that i have other responsibilities too!

you don’t need to be following me, but i will be sharing updates here, so it would be a good idea to at least keep an eye on that page/tag.

please don’t hesitate to participate! this is supposed to be a fun, lighthearted, seasonal activity, and if you do encounter any issues, i will help you :)

Reason being is that 1) I really don’t like to pick favourites and 2) I wanted this to be meaningful so, seeing that we are heading towards the holidays and for those of us in Yankee land, are currently bathing in the season for showing gratitude, I would like to take this opportunity to show my gratitude to these lovely darlings who have moved me in some form or another (not in any particular order btw):

1. @burn-on-the-flame m’lady, your friendship has meant so much to me since the time we became mutuals. At the time, I was just beginning to relearn the ins and outs of tumblr after being dormant here for so long, but you were one of the people who showed me that it’s ok to vent about everything and anything on here. You’ve made me feel at ease about being myself on here and that has meant a lot to me. Thank you so much for being a great friend, and for always encouraging me to just be myself on tumblr. 2. @freezerfreys also an OG fave of mine!! my dear your fashion, your musical talents, your charisma, your charm and the way you’re so confident in your own skin. 3. @clockworkfairy thank you so much for the many times you have checked in on me. You have shone a light in times when I saw nothing but darkness on here. It’s so comforting to find people like you that restore a special kind of equilibrium in people’s lives. It’s what you’ve done to me, and I can’t thank you enough for all the times you’ve brought sunshine into my life when there was rain

4. @faeriejones you are an absolute sweetheart and I feel lucky to have crossed paths with you. Your warmth, kindness and very loving personality are so refreshing to see especially with how ruthless social media can be at times. Amber, with how little we’ve interacted, I still cherish the moments we have had to bond over common interests and gush over them! We need more of those type of interactions in the world. Pure fun, you know what I mean? You’re the kind of person I would frolick in a field of tulips with and have a laugh about it at the end. Thank you for being such a great friend, and for always being so thoughtful. It’s not much, but to me the effect is massive 💗

5. @channel-swimmer Loller!! I think you of all people on here probably know me best being friends with me on ig. If it’s one thing I’d like for you to take away from my ig stories it’s that I deliver the same fun and jovial energy irl as I do here on tumblr. I must admit I have way too much irl than I do on social media, and that’s the way it should be but anyway I digress. I am still so very happy to have found someone who is as passionate and charmed by 10cc as I am. I’m also grateful to be getting feedback from you on my fic Chances I do appreciate all that. You’re an epic bass player and before you I bow down, sir. I am not worthy!

6. @starrybluez Secret Rocker Santa 2023 brought me to you and it’s the reason I joined a second year of it so for that, I am so very grateful to you. Thank you for staying in touch with me and for all the great laughs (may I remind you of our Marc Bolan/Ringo Starr stint). Anyway, your brilliant Dee and I hope we get to share many more great laughs.

7. @lock-my-feelings-in-a-jar I love the way you are with Russ, because you remind me of how I am with Eric. Like, WE ARE THE EXACT SAME. Like when you mention that you keep track of Russ’ activities on other social media platforms is how I am about monitoring Eric’s whereabouts on ig or Spotify (like I just NEED to know when that man is dropping a new hit single). All that to the side, I love how passionate you are about your favourite artist because like you, I have also found the one artist that has made a major major MAJOR impact in my life and that is none other than my Eric Michael Stewart. He is my greatest inspiration as a musician myself, and as an individual. He reminds me to be a better version of myself, as I imagine Russ does with you. I’m just glad to have found people like you who look up to one artist as a symbol for hope, joy and happiness. And I’m sure that’s what Russ and Eric would want us to feel and experience, love.

8. @veryfancydoilies you are my second mutual that I gained through secret rocker santa and from the very beginning I knew you had this gentleness about you that just captivated me. Thank you for having such wonderful interactions with me and for gushing over cute 60s/70s guys with me. You’re such a sweetheart and I’m so pleased we’ve crossed paths 🩷🩷🩷🩷

*blinks* It almost seems like the writers didn't know how to properly close Eddie's arc, this is sad. Tragic to you since you liked him so much that you started writing a fanfic. Well, we can hope that they'll somehow figure out how to close his character arc in the next season. If not, then you'll probably be disappointed.

This is a smart move. After all, it's normally better to write a fic to something that is finished because you know how to go with the story.

Ahhhh, I see you're interested! Well then, I do have a few one-shots taking place in that universe. One of them I've mentioned and you can find it here and the rest is written in Polish, first going as far as to the 2023 where I just wanted to write that Keith didn't die due to the pills.

Even the authors of the K-drama said that they based this drama on the movie "While You Were Sleeping" so I bet you'll have a blast! Also to the main lead - Lee Jong-suk:

Oh my God... Umn, officially I got into The Who in the last year. 13th of September to be exact, two days after I heard "Love Ain't for Keeping", but there's also an unofficial date when at one evening I walked into the living room (10 years old tiny me so 16 years ago) and mom watched "CSI". First time I heard "Who Are You" and my brain was blown to bits and pieces.

There's also that weird time from May to 11th of September 2023 where I went from:

My interests often revolve around my love for anything vintage which can be anything from history, film, music, photography, and antiques. I also love videogames, anime, reading, true crime, and memes. And of course, I love classic rock. I only recently became a big fan though. Well I liked classic rock before but not as ardently as I do now. After listening to a 60s mix playlist on Spotify, I instantly loved the sound of the 60s and started discovering more bands. Do you use Spotify? Spotify Wrapped 2023 was fun. My top five were The Zombies, The Kinks, The Turtles, The Beatles, and Assassin’s Creed. Didn’t change much since last year. Which decade of classic rock do you like the most? I tend to listen to 60s music more but I love 70s and 80s music too. The genres of music I like are videogame music, film scores, and piano/classical. I’m not very picky when it comes to music though. What about you? How do you get into classic rock? Hi daisy! I’m your Secret Santa! Sorry I didn’t message you yesterday. I was busy. But I’m here now! I saw the post that announced this game and I thought it sounded fun. I don’t speak to other people on Tumblr very often so the chance to make a new friend appealed to me. Why did you join if I may ask? Same reasons as me? So you got your Spotify Wrapped I see and The Beatles came in third in your top 5 I think? For me they were the 4th. I much prefer the bands The Zombies (#1), The Kinks (#2), and The Turtles (#3). Odessey and Oracle is easily my favorite album ever. Did you know they actually mispelled Odessey and it wasn’t an artistic choice? I found that out on their twitter page. They still perform! I really got into 60s music after listening to a playlist Spotify made. I made an entire playlist full of it and I listen to it pretty much every day. How did you get into 60s music? I know a lot of people are either introduced to it by someone else like a parent or they found it on their own. For me, it was just a playlist I randomly listened to one day and then I was hooked. By the way, did you listen to Now and Then? It’s amazing that a Beatles song can be so popular in 2023 decades after the band broke up and two members have passed away, isn’t it?. Hi Sunny! I think I got into Secret Rocker Santa for a similar reason to yours - I wanted to meet more classic rock/oldies fans on Tumblr, and I thought it was a great idea. I helped a little bit with it last year as I'd done secret Santas in other fandoms before, but this year I was a little burnt out to do official stuff.

My Spotify Wrapped was messed up this year by all the sleep music, haha. But yes! I did listen to a lot of Beatles and George's solo music. I really like the Kinks, too, but I haven't heard much outside of their most famous songs. Which albums would you recommend?

I got into 60s music from my parents. Since I'm a bit older, my parents were alive back then and had a lot of stories to tell. I used to have a bunch of my mom's old teen magazines from those days, but I don't know where they went ...

I really like Now and Then. It made me so emotional, especially when they released the music video. I understand how it sounds off, though. There's a difference in how the parts of it were produced, so they could only do so much when they put it all together.

My favorite Beatle is George, too! I decided that when I was in middle school, when I saw the movie Help! for the first time. He's been my favorite ever since.
