Three decades of "Fools": Aretha Franklin was the first to record the song "Runnin' Out of Fools" back in 1964, but the subsequent versions — SecondHandSongs lists ten, including one by Isaac Hayes from his 1970 album ...TO BE CONTINUED and a 2002 version by Neko Case, on BLACKLISTED — can't be considered covers. The song was written by Richard Ahlert and Eddie Snyder (credited as Kay Rogers) in an era of pop music when most songs were by professional songwriters, not the singer-songwriters modern fans seem to consider the only legitimate musicians.
If you look closely at the track list on the Aretha Franklin cover, you'll spot another: "Walk On By," a 1963 Burt Bacharach/Hal David song written for and originally performed by Dionne Warwick for her 1964 album MAKE WAY FOR DIONNE WARWICK (nine of whose 12 tracks are Bacharach/David songs). It too has been recorded numerous times by different artists, but the Warwick and Franklin versions are utterly overshadowed by the 1969 Isaac Hayes version from HOT BUTTERED SOUL, a 12-minute epic whose sweeping cinematic orchestration and hair-raising, much-sampled Harold Beane fuzz guitar have made it the standard against which all others are measured.
#music#soul#alt country#richard ahlert#kay rogers#eddie snyder#aretha franklin#isaac hayes#neko case#burt bacharach#hal david#dionne warwick#harold beane#walk on by#warwick's version of walk on by is a perfectly okay pop r&b song#the hayes version is a whole movie#i'm always surprised that sinatra never recorded walk on by#although elvis costello did runnin' out of fools in 1995#which i assume is agonizing#i can't abide elvis costello and wish he'd cut that shit out

How to get the rights to a song?
How to get the rights to a song? I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit but I thought I'd try anyways. Basically, I am making a student short film and there is a song I really want to put it in it for a character to sing and also to play it at the very end. It's little boy, little girl by Roy Budd. This is a pretty not known old song and I feel like there must be a cheapish way to use it? the only thing I can find online is through secondhandsongs but they say it will probably be a minimum of like 1200 dollars and idk, this is an old song and its for a student short film surely there must be a better way that isn't through a 3rd party service and not so expensive.I also am new to all this so it was really confusing but I checked through Sony as well and they had a bunch of disclaimers saying I would be in charge of getting licenses not only from them but from other places as well to use the song so im just confused. If anyone could help that would be appreciated. thank you Submitted October 04, 2024 at 05:00PM by boringboringboring12 https://ift.tt/DoS6GhI via /r/Music

Some Sia Covers: A List by an Autistic Girl
So if you read my asking autistics post about where to find good Sia covers after the "Music" film snafu, you know that I had been looking for covers of songs Sia did that I really liked, but could no longer listen to after her film came out because I felt uncomfortable with her voice and the traction its gained after she made a complete mockery of the voices of all autistic people, especially those who are non-verbal/vocal (I'm semi to full verbal/vocal by the way).
After doing some looking (and getting some great suggestions from the replies off of the aforementioned post, I've managed to come up with a list covers of Sia songs that I like for any autistic person (or any person who lost respect for Sia after her film came out) who still wants to be able to listen to some songs without having to hear Sia's voice or who don't feel comfortable supporting her by listening to her music anymore.
Chandelier covers: Chandelier by PVRIS and Chandelier by Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox and Puddles Pity Party.
Bird Set Free cover: Bird Set Free by Keala Settle
Elastic Heart covers: Elastic Heart by Brielle Von Hugel and Elastic Heart (Rock Version) by Written by Wolves (special thank you and shout out to @extremely-pearlmethirsty, who replied to the asking autistics post and gave me this cover, which I LOVE).
Titanium covers: Titanium by Caleb Hyles and Annapantsu, Titanium by Madilyn Bailey, Titanium by Chevonne (The Voice Performance), Titanium by Emmaly Brown (The Voice of Holland Performance), and Titanium by Madilyn Paige (TVP).
That's all for now, and again, these are covers that I personally like, so sorry if it does not cover (pun totally intended) the songs you like. I also have an entire playlist of cover songs that I like called Send My Love To Your New Cover on Spotify, so feel free to check it out if you like. Hope this helps anyone who is looking for some Sia covers!
EDIT: I JUST DISCOVERED A WEBSITE CALLED SECONDHANDSONGS AND YOU CAN PUT THE NAME OF A SONG IN AND IT WILL GIVE YOU A LIST OF COVERS AVAILABLE ON BOTH YOUTUBE AND SPOTIFY!

Cuarteto Indiano: II. Andante Quasi Adagio
Cuarteto Indiano: III. Allegretto ma non troppo
Cuarteto Indiano: IV. Allegro Ritmico

This is the best John/June song. Belongs in Top 5, even with stuff competition. 22 Cry! Cry! Cry! Cry, Cry, Cry and Hey Porter are Johnny Cash's original hits and showcase he talent early on. They still stand today as one of his best and both should be top 10 in my opinion. Widely known today as a Johnny Cash song, "I've Been Everywhere" had Cash dropping a rapid-fire list of all the places he's traveled, from Louisville and Nashville to Bakersfield and Shreveport.

The song was written by Don Schlitz and recorded by several different artists including Johnny Cash. But it was Rogers's version that became the most famous, eventually becoming a signature song for him as well as poker's unofficial theme song. Both Rogers and Schlitz won Grammys for "The Gambler.".

"Losing in Las Vegas" - Merle Haggard Haggard is another country legend, having been influenced by seeing Johnny Cash whilst incarcerated at San Quentin. Like his hero, he's gone on to have a huge impact on country music, and this song about luck in Vegas is one of his lesser-known.

Watch the official video for "The Chicken in Black" by Johnny CashListen to Johnny Cash: Johnny Cash:Facebook: https. With the classic chorus lines, "You've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em," the song is told from the first-person perspective about a conversation with an old poker player on a train. The card shark gives life advice to the narrator in the form of poker metaphors, before presumably dying in his sleep..

Lyrics for The Gambler by Kenny Rogers - Songfacts.
In 1969, Johnny Cash had a hit with "A Boy Named Sue," a novelty song written by Shel Silverstein. When Mull heard it, he laughed and started jotting down some ideas for an "answer song.". The result was "A Girl Named Johnny Cash.". Mull says he recorded it and it became a minor hit, but I can't find it. Cash delivers "The One on the Right Is on the Left" (a send-up of the '60s folk boom as well as political divisions), "Joe Bean" (a morbidly funny take on the classic Western ballad), and the title number (a slice of honky-tonk absurdity) with a poker-faced seriousness that makes them all the funnier.

. (Verse 1: Johnny Cash)Well, you're my friendAnd can you seeMany times we've been out drinkingMany times we've shared our thoughtsBut did you ever, ever noticeThe kind of thoughts I got? Well, you. "There was thunder there was lightning / then the stars went out / and the moon fell from the sky / it rained mackerel it rained trout / and the great day of wrath has come / and here's mud in your.

. There's no doubt Viva Las Vegas is a great gambling song: in it, the King of R'n'R pays tribute to virtually all casino games. Poker, blackjack, roulette, one-armed bandits; they're all there. Elvis even goes on to laud Vegas nightlife and a thousand women living their life to the fullest. On a train bound for nowhere I met up with the gambler We were both too tired to sleep So we took turns a-starin' Out the window at the darkness The boredom overtook us, And he began to speak He said, "Son, I've made a life Out of readin' people's faces Knowin' what the cards were By the way they held their eyes So if you don't mind me sayin'.

If you've ever been at Anfield on a European night you'll no doubt have heard the Kop singing the famous "doo-doo-doo's" in unison Liverpool's songbook of chants and anthems is a long and storied. Huck's Tune - Bob Dylan Bob Dylan is a true great, both in terms of performing and writing. He was called the greatest songwriter of our time by none other than Johnny Cash, which is high praise indeed. Dylan wrote this poker-themed song for the film Lucky You, which starred Eric Bana and Drew Barrymore.
15 Johnny Cash Songs That Have Stood The Test of Time.
Even Johnny Cash did a version in 1978 as part of his album 'Gone Girl'. But when Kenny Rogers finally took the song on in 1978, it became a massive No. 1 country hit, even making its way onto the 'Hot 100' and other pop charts - a feat rarely achieved by country songs back then.

i should clarify i've gone and listened to like every official version, at least every one that's logged on secondhandsongs, and i've checked tunefind for all of them. nothing came up that i feel like i saw recently unless i missed something
does anyone recall/know if the song crimson and clover was used in any recent movie soundtracks or trailers bc I've had it stuck in my head with the distinct sense of something dramatic/theatrical particularly in the notion of horror around it. but I can't remember exactly where I heard it
