Did you enjoy The Boy and the Heron? I don't think it's my new favorite Ghibli film but it's got me thinking a lot. I had the same sort of feeling about Wind Rises where the film itself wasn't my favorite work but I really appreciated the film's message/theme more than some of the other Ghibli films that I DO love. would love to hear your thoughts!!
No spoilers below--
I enjoyed the first ninety minutes very much. Some of the sequences in it are among the best Miyazaki's done. I like the heron a lot and I loved the character Kiriko. Mahito was a good kid too, he was a little less opaque than a lot of Miyazaki's protagonists and I loved his intense madness in the first half.
But then, man, does that movie fall down hard towards the end. All the modern Miyazaki movies do, he hasn't ended a movie coherently since Mononoke Hime, but it's at its most detrimental here. So much is dropped. There are so many elements that never have a pay-off.
Now you mentioned The Wind Rises and I think that's a fine movie to compare this one with. The Wind Rises also had a surface narrative - the highly fictionalized life of Jiro Horikoshi - and a personal thematic narrative - Hayao Miyazaki's rumination on what it is to be an artist. Both are very well managed in that movie and they each come to a satisfying, if characteristically rushed and choppy end.
How Do You Live does NOT, in my opinion, stick the landing with its primary tale about a grieving kid named Mahito. Instead it's constantly battling with its second function as a symbolic depiction of Miyazaki's creative process and advice to The Youth. The characters are given precedence as symbols rather than as people. I found this unsatisfying and frustratingly self-indulgent on his part. By the end I pretty much understood that Mahito was the the Youth, that the tower was the director working through the process of a film, that the mother was both a curse and a protective inspiration, that the pregnant stepmother was a new project, that the heron was Toshio Suzuki, yadda yadda. The film is much more interested in this self-indulgence than in resolving its primary story about Mahito. It all but abandons that kid's struggle in favour of its wanking.
There is so, so much left unresolved. And the resolutions it does come to feel unjustified, frantic, and like afterthoughts.
So yeah, not one of my favourites either. Just a mess of a movie. But the fact it was all pulled together by an eighty-something year old dude is impressive for sure. I don't think we'll ever see another animated movie like this again. For better or for worse :3

I have decided to make a MHA, Izuku Midoriya centric, fanfiction 101 recommendations, list.
I am but a basic bitch of nerds, but I have opinions and I WILL share them bc I'm incapable of shutting the fuck up.
Anyway this is a list of fic I think any person who reads fanfiction, is a BNHA fan and likes Izuku Midoriya, should read.
(is it actually an excuse to find ppl who like the same shit i do? Maybe.)
So, this list will contain fics that are completed ONLY.
There are a lot of MHA staples that aren't finished yet, and they will get a post of their own.
🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
Alright disclaimers, PSA, whatever, ALWAYS and I fuckin mean ALWAYS, read the tags and trigger warnings bc I won't lie, some might get a bit dark.
🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
1. Complicated Creation - Elemental
Easily one of the best fics I've ever read. Great world building based on the Ghibli movie Spirited away. We love to see it. The writing and plot are both breath-taking.
It has quirkless Izuku, spirits, dragons, healing and a sprinkle of a classic trope in the MHA fandom, Dadzawa.
2. Hero Class Civil Warfare - RogueDruid
If you have been in the fandom space for at least a couple of months and have been reading fics, you have, 100% heard of RogueDruid. He has, hands down, some of the most captivating work in the whole of the internet. One of the classics, is HCCW. It has inspired a lot of other fics, which had gone the class War route (hmu if u want reccs). Incredibly well done, the EFFORT that went into this had to be astounding. There isn't a single miss.
Without spoiling too much, the class 1 A and 1 B, have a final exam. The exam in this world, is a war between villain and heros. Izuku is put into the position of the leader of the villains, the Kingpin while his rival, the Paragon, is none other than Katsuki Bakugou. We get a mastermind Izuku, characters from 1 B, that I personally never cared much for, before reading this fic and more.
3. Mastermind: Strategist for Hire by Clouds
Staying in the villain Izuku waters, I present Mastermind. A part of a series called For the want of a nail, that follows different universes in which Izuku stays quirkless. Mastermind is a personal favourite. It's the second installment of the series and has an ongoing sequel. (The series includes Viridian: the green guide, Deku? I think he's some pro, Chet Code: support strategist and two more, which aren't completed yet).
Here, Izuku stays quirkless as he loses any hope left for the hero society. He, unfortunately for the world, is stupidly smart and easily gained a fearsome reputation, for being the best strategist for hire for villains. After realizing the world sucks and he, in fact, doesn't, Izuku becomes a villain the likes héroes have never seen before.
4. The Mystery of Student No.18 by cloud_nine_and_three_quarters
Another author, that has me by the scruff of my goddamm neck. Went for my throat every fuckin time. I will name the other fics later but lemme tell you about this one.
It's the second fic in the list, that has Izuku with OFA. This time though, Izuku stayed true to his self-sacrificing roots and got himself into a coma. While in his lovely sleeping beauty-esk state, OFA keeps giving him energy and thus an once of a lifetime opportunity to become a ghost. Yes you heard that right. He becomes a ghost and lightly haunts his class. The fic is golden, funny and just a little bit sad.
The other three fics, just as good as this one are Canary, Why are we here again? and Displacement.
5. Yesterday upon the stair by PitvViperOfDoom
Keeping with the ghost theme, we have the one and only YUTS. Again, world building is of the charts great. A great quirk and awesome themes with unexpected turns and plots. The gist is, Izuku can see ghosts. This story is one of the rare ones where Nana Shimura (my beloved) plays a bigger role than usual. Definitely chdck out the additional parts of the series though at that point it goes slightly into more crack waters but it's still incredible.
6. [Content] by Teobot
Taking a sharp turn into morally grey vigilante route, we get this great first part of an incredible ongoing series. There are two parts done and the wait is always worth it.
7. Assignment: Personality Swap by BelleAmant
First I wanted to recc their vigilante Izuku fic (Vigil, Ante and their vigilante antics) but I must admit, while a classic, it hasn't been as impactful to the fandom as Personality Swap has been. Both with its incredible humor, bit of angst and quirk fuckery the whole series has been nothing but hits.
8. Another form of power by Jade_Tatsu
Veering directly back into villain Izuku, this one was a breath of fresh air. I once got tired of villain Izuku that was either forced to be a villain or was just a vigilante but darker, so I went on a search and found this. The series All for power, is a 4 part ENTIRELY COMPLETED series, about politician villain Izuku. The first part is told mostly through the eyes of Kurogiri and I swear, it's my favorite of the all.
9. How Seven (7) Dead Heroes Stopped Being Bored by ScottishSunshine
Crack inspired, but more All for one focused that Izuku, but still most things happen because of the Midoriya family so it counts. It's good and fun and an interesting read especially of you're fond of Dad for one.
10. Prodigal by writerllofllworlds
And for the end, let's get our hearts crushed just a little.
An angst filled suspected traitor AU. In my humble opinion, very few have ever truly succeeded in writing a traitor AU, nearly as good as this one. I like it in most part because Izuku goes through hell and back, and I just am like that. It's epic.
Was this list an exuse to talk about fics I like? Yes. But do i feel like everyone who like BNHA should read these?
Abso - fuckin-lutley
I consider it a crime if you don't. Also pls do add your own opinions and if you want more reccs, ask in the comments or dm me or whatever floats your boat Besties.
Kiki the nerd, signing off

1988 was an absolute beast across the world for animated movies/TV specials… I don’t know enough about animation history to be able to confidently rank it against every other year since they were first created, but surely it’s got to be among the best, right?
- You’ve got the massive technical achievements of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and AKIRA which were all-hands-on-deck efforts that required huge teams across different departments to bring their A-game.
- Ghibli unleashing the ultimate emotional whiplash double feature with My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies.
- Two incredibly unique Soviet adaptations of well-worn stories in Jan Švankmajer’s nightmarishly creative Alice and David Cherkassky’s soulfully comedic Treasure Island (the more polished second half of the latter released in ‘88 so I’m counting it).
- The Land Before Time and Oliver and Company were also there, and though the latter comes off as mediocre in comparison to many of the other movies released this year, it surely provided more training for the animators who were about to start the Disney Renaissance.
- Don’t forget the best goddamn piece of Garfield media ever made, Garfield: His 9 Lives.
- I hardly know anything about Gundam at all but I thought I might as well give a shout-out to Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack, that was probably a big deal also.
And there might be some other good ones I missed. 1988 was also the year Felix the Cat: The Movie was released, but they can’t all be winners.

hey girl! so me and my online friend stopped talking with each other a while back and he blocked me so I'm trying to manifest him back but I'm obsessed and desperate about him.. what do I do?
Here's my number one best tips for manifesting:
1. Affirm naturally like you're telling a friend about what happened. Align your thoughts with your desires meaning think like you have it now. Only whenever you think about it or when you want to
2. The 3d doesn't have a meaning, you give meaning to it. You getting desperate and obsessing means that you're giving the 3d a negative meaning and that you're accepting that circumstance as a fact or that you don't have it. Just observe the 3d and choose to change self because the 3d is just a mirror and will reflect you. You want him to unblock you? Okay, he unblocked you now. Accept that it's true and a fact now. Choose to think in your favor. You're not seeing it in the 3d? Why would you check that? It's literally the past. From the past thoughts and assumptions you had. What you focus on grows so why not focus on the fact that you're talking again? Don't ever pay attention to what you don't want. Always know that if you do, you are doing that yourself and choosing to let that circumstance stay and stick in your reality.
For example:
Me when my parents were talking about something we needed to pay and it's something negative
Rian: *on her phone and is just observing. She decides to go back to her phone and not pay attention because she does not relate to that anymore. That's not her reality anymore. She chose to think in her favor so what does she do? She dismisses it in her mind and says "I'm a billionaire, I can literally pay that in a second. There's nothing to worry about."
This actually happened and that's when I understood more of the law so I hope my experience can help you!
3. Persist. Say "it's already done" every time you think about it. Please think that it's already actually done because it is. In the mean time, distract yourself by doing what makes you happy. Ask yourself "What would make me feel the happiest to do right now?" The first thing that popped up, you should do that. For example, I make myself happy by doing what I love to do! I watch movies especially Disney, Ghibli and Barbie movies because they are very healing for me! Please please think in your favor! Remember and assume that nothing can ever ruin your manifestations because they're here and they're done! Shift your thoughts to the person who is talking to her online friend again and got unblocked! Every time you think of it just affirm "it is done/it's already here, it's already done, nothing left for me to do" and then force yourself to think of something else.

*takes a deep breath* AHHHHHDKAJFKSJA
I JUST WATCHED BOY AND THE HERON AND I LOVE IT SM AND IT'S SO GOOD.
So obvs, it's studio ghibli, it's gna be some of the prettiest stuff you've ever seen. So many scenery frames made me think "I'm gna scour the internet for them and repaint them as art practice. It resembles smudgy oil paintings rather than studio ghibli's gouache style (see spirited away, Totoro) but it's honestly beautiful nonetheless, and seeing it on the big screen made me feel like I was in the movie. There's even a stone passage that looks like the one from Coraline. The animation works so smoothly to make the film an overall wonderful immersive experience.
The character design was so good. You have your classic ghibli, countryside, apron wearing girl. Your boy with spiky hair. And probably the best addition of a butch seafarer, Kiriko, dubbed by Florence Pugh (oh my goodness I am too gay for this). The grannies were so inexplicably lovely and visually distinct I just want a hug from them. The wizard (Mark Hamill having this otherworldly yet grounded design and amazing hair. The heron was oddly grotesque without being scary (this is such a gift only japanese have.) and his various designs fluctuate along with the story. I was surprisingly intrigued by the fact that even in crane form, he had human teeth. And ofc THE WARAWARA.
GOSH THEY ARE ADORABLE I LOVE THESE DAMN TAPIOCA PEARL LOOKING THINGS THEY HAD ME SQUEALING IN THE THEATRE EITH HOW CUTE THEY ARE.
The score is beautiful and I dare say that it's on par, maybe even better than the Spiderverse score (and that's REALLY HIGH praise coming from me, I love the Spiderverse score to the point where it's on my Spotify wrapped.) I loved how the use of motifs, especially in relation to magic in the film. And definitely need to go give it more listens. 11/10 would recommend listening to it even outside of the film, it's just that great, give it a Grammy or smth.
Humor in this film is hilarious without being corny. It's very on the nose, what's currently happening in the scene humor. Characters (won't say who) also have amazing dynamics that supply a lot of humor for the film. Obviously we have that last snippet from the trailer and I'll give you this out of context "Mahito's turned into a parakeet"
The story is very easy to follow. The first half of the story is very grounded. And even in the second fantastical half, the visuals and little sprinkles of just the right amount of information help to guide us through the amazing fantastical world. Nothing ever feels too spoonfed to the audience or too overwhelming.
Spoilers below the cut
Character was great too. The main cast each have a very touching emotional aspect and nothing is what it seems, not from the trailers and not even within the show. Characters go on journeys you never could've expected from the beginning of the show. Such as the heron, who I genuinely thought from trailers was gna be the bad guy but turned into a genuine, squat goblin companion. And the parakeet king goddamn I thought he was gna be a good guy with his "we must protect this world" gig, not some giant cannibalistic parakeet with a surprising penchant for sneaking. Anyway, I especially loved how we meet characters almost multiple times with how we're introduced to different versions of them. Kiriko>>>
The moral of this story had me confused ngl, but I'm fcking dumb and need to go read some analysis so ignore this. The main message I got was that "Life is shit. But it's worth living and I can make it better for myself. Through friends, I don't have to be alone through it all" which made me tear up ngl since I've been struggling with life this year and seeing how our boy Mahito went from being a closed off lil squat to that *cries*. Personally I interpreted the great granduncle and his blocks as seeing what's wrong with the system the older generation has built, and demanding more from it/straight up turning away from it. Also Mahito learning to let go of his mom. The pelicans wanting the best for their children and not always liking what they have to do for survival as a link to war soldiers @hamable . I also read from @simplysparrow14 and @rockpaperimpala the film is also Miyazaki coming to the realisation that 'studio ghibli will be his legacy and it will be put to rest, it won't be the same if continued without him and that's okay' and ow I just got hit in the feels.
To summarize the boy and the heron excelled, slaps, is show stopping, brilliant, awesome, a true work of art and soul and 11000/10 go watch it ON THE BIG SCREEN I am not joking.
#ahh i just saw it#it's so good#*cries*#110000/10I love this film#go watch it#amazing showstopping brilliant talented#soulful#the boy and the heron#studio ghibli#hayao miyazaki#art#also it's like 2am here I stayed up writing this

An accurate list of the best movies I've ever seen
This list also includes reasons that are all too objective and nonsensical. Avoid asking too many questions. And share what you think in the comments!
Hercules
Hercules is probably my favourite Disney movie. And I also think that's where my interest in Greek mythology started. Hades is my favorite villain from this company and he's such a mood.
The Prince of Egypt
Oh dear you don't know how much I love this movie. I know every song by heart and was lucky enough to sing them with my choir. I'm a big fan of animation and despite how old is this movie, I think it remains one of the best ever produced. I cried more times over this movie than over all the others on this list combined.
Friends & Family
I only discovered this film this year but it quickly became one of my favorites. I have never laughed for so many consecutive minutes at a movie. I approached it because it's unusual to see a gay mob-themed movie, but I immediately fell in love with all the characters and the final scene remains one of the most comic I have ever seen.
Treasure Planet
I have a soft spot for animated films about great adventures and self-discovery. Jim has been my only animated crush for years, and his story has always resonated with something inside of me (maybe the desire for adventure and his recklessness, idk). Plus, of course, "'I'm Still Here" is one of the most beautiful soundtracks ever created.
Howl's Moving Castle
One of the first films I saw by Studio Ghibli and my absolute favourite. The love stories created by this Studio are always wonderful, and this one is no different. Plus I always saw myself in Sophie (especially about the crush on Howl) and, well, there's Calcifer, what more do you want?
Les Choristes
Another thing I love: movies about music. It may be that I've been playing an instrument for years and singing in choirs, but I've always cried watching kids rediscover a new side of themselves through music and songs. And these songs are composition's masterpieces. I still remember them all by heart even though French isn't my native language.
A Christmas Carol
I'm slightly obsessed with this story, with Charles Dickens and with Christmas. I was born on Christmas Eve so you can imagine how close this theme is to my heart. I have seen several versions of this story though, and for some reason, this one remains my favourite. It may be that it's different from other more colourful versions and really shows the darkness behind the original story, idk.
How to Train Your Dragon
I literally grew up with this saga: I was 8 years old at the first film, 12 at the second and 17 at the third. I watched Hiccup grow up with me as a friend and Toothless as a fellow adventurer. I'll forever be grateful to Dreamworks for creating the best-animated saga that cinema has ever seen.
The Three Musketeers
This movie is so random that it's perfect. I watched it again recently (after like 8 years) and realized that maybe my daddy issues come from this movie: Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom and the freaking Mads Mikkelsen together, seriously? I'm not surprised it was one of my favourite movies growing up.
A Monster in Paris
The love I have for this film is enormous. I could never get over the beauty of the songs in it. The characters are so well written and Francœur will always be in my top animated characters. It's too amazing to be real.
Rise of the Guardians
I could talk for hours about this film and have not even touched the tip of the iceberg. I have an insane obsession with all the characters, starting with and especially Jack, my top animated crush for years. It's all so perfect that I don't see how people never nominate it when it comes to top animated movies.
The Hobbit
Again, I have serious problems with films about fantasy adventures. I have always preferred The Hobbit saga to its sequel because the story has always fascinated me more. And the main character especially: for me Bilbo >>>> Frodo. And then there's Thorin and Luke Evans. You know, daddy issues.
Mune: Guardian of the Moon
Another French animated movie, another obsession, another adventure, another animated character in my top. This is an example of how to do good animation. There isn't a colour out of place. The settings are authentic, the characters are original, and the adventure they make gets me every time.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
I'm maybe a Muggle, but I prefer Fantastic Beasts to the Harry Potter saga. That's not to say it's better, mind you, but it reflects me more. We all know how we Hufflepuffs (and Ravenclaws) have no real representation in the HP movies, so to be able to have at least one prequel saga starring a Hufflepuff (in which I also find myself far too much) as the protagonist is wonderful. And I have an unhealthy urge to become a magizoologist.
The Greatest Showman
It's the movie I have watched the most of these. I know every song by heart and every line too. It always manages to be a roller coaster of emotions. And it has Hugh Jackman in it.
The Boy Foretold By The Stars
I'm a big supporter of the Philippine's film company. This is one movie is gentle, funny, and not based on the usual drama between Christianity and LGBT+ people (which is what I thought when reading the plot at first). Moreover, another underrated thing, the Philippines' music company here has thrown in masterpiece after masterpiece of songs, perfect for this movie.
Bros
This is my top comfort film in the last year. It's like watching a Hallmark movie but hotter, much more sincere and gay. Very gay. And the relationship between the two main characters is so cute and sweet. And funny.
Top Gun: Maverick
I love this saga but especially love this particular chapter. I love Maverick and his relationship with Rooster, and all the other characters are so well-written. And don't get me started on the story... I LOVE it. There isn't much else to say except that Cruise is a great actor (and a terrible person).
Glass Onion - Knives Out
I love my silly little gay detective. And I have a little passion for movies and mystery series. I found this saga's chapter more compelling than the first one, and the characters gripped me more. Also I fell in love with the setting. Oh and then there are Daniel Craig and Hugh Grant.

His best tactic is to make you laugh

Lucifer would be SO proud of being a caregiver. Of course he'd enjoy it and be good at it, that's a given. But he'd really just internalize caregiving as one of the most important parts of his day-to-day life, and feel deep seated pride for supporting his loved ones like that.
First off, he's grateful that Charlie even lets him be part of her age regression at all. He understands it as a part of her healing her inner child...and who hurt that child to begin with? He doesn't lose sight of that. But this time is different because he's CHOOSING to be different. When he notices Charlie regressing he drops whatever he's doing just to be there with her. He'll pull her in his lap and work out what she needs. A snuggle because she's feeling lonely? Some playtime because work is too stressful? He'll do anything to make sure that little Charlie is the center of his world in that moment.
He's comfortable with her at any age, but he especially loves toddler Charlie. She's at her most bright and shining and cheerful at that stage. She loves playing make-believe with her MANY toys, and he puts his heart and soul into his pretend-play performances. His favorite activity is reading her story books while she's draped over his lap, slowly nodding off before a much needed nap.
He also takes satisfaction in caregiving in the traditional sense. He likes cooking for her and spoon-feeding her whenever she'll let him. He makes silly little duck quacking sounds as he leads the spoon up to her mouth, which always makes her cackle so much that he ends up smearing food on her lips. He likes helping her in the bath since she loves playing in the water with all her toys, and he isn't bothered by potty stuff (for her, that's pull up checks, changes, and helping her to the toilet). But these are all things that he'll only do if he knows that Charlie is completely comfortable with it. If not, he has no problem with Vaggie taking the lead.
Speaking of Vaggie, that's his little blessing right there. Heaven lost a true angel, but too bad, because he's gained a beautiful daughter. She can be more apprehensive about being taken care of than Charlie, but he knows how to let her set the tone and the pace for HER care. She started out very shy with him while regressed, barely allowing him to watch Ghibli movies with her when she was feeling tiny. Now she readily climbs into his arms practically melts while he carries her around. She's usually VERY small and has different needs than Charlie does when regressed. He's put a lot of care into "curating" her set up that keeps her safe and happy, including a sized-up high chair, changing table, baby bouncer, and play pen. Sometimes he'll crawl into the playpen with her, have her lay her head in his lap, and bottle feed her warm sweetened milk until she falls asleep.
Occasionally Baby Vaggie has overwhelming meltdowns. Most of the time they're the result of pent up stress from work, followed by a small trigger while she's regressing. But other times, they completely blindside everyone. No one even realizes that she's regressed, then suddenly she's absolutely BAWLING at her desk, throwing her supplies around and punching herself in the forehead. Those scare him more than anything. He has no doubt that it's some form of trauma from everything she's experienced as a fallen angel. But that makes him even more sympathetic to her, and thus he's even more determined to bring her back down from those major upsets. It helps to just hold her tight and bounce her on his hip, pacing the halls or lobby until she steadies out.
But yeah, those are his two baby girls and he'd do anything in the world for them. He's forever grateful that they let him share in their time spent regressed. He's determined to show them that by being the best ever second-chance-daddy there ever was.

okay for the snowmance, a bit about myself: love everything herbology related, hiking, mushrooms, reading, writing, love concerts. my ideal winter date would probably be going sledding and hot cocoa by the fire after to warm up, maybe watching a ghibli movie or cartoons 💕 any fandom is okay 💕
ayiiii, Marii!! Thank you so much for requesting, bun! And yes I paired you with Fred too (and yes, I am biased) (づ ᴗ _ᴗ)づ♡

ˋ°•*⁀➷ REMUS LUPIN / FRED WEASLEY
Alright, OTP mode engaged ( •̀ - •́ ) —here’s why you’d be amazing with Fred and Remus, because you would absolutely bring out the best in both of them!
With Fred, it’d be nonstop winter fun and cozy, playful energy. You’d go sledding, and he’d make it his life’s mission to have the wildest, most laugh-out-loud rides down the hill, probably coming up with some ridiculous challenge just to keep things interesting.
He’d tease you about every herbology fact and mushroom you point out, but only because he’d secretly love seeing you so excited. Once you’re back inside, Fred would insist on making you a perfect hot cocoa, loaded with marshmallows, and would somehow turn even watching cartoons into an event, tossing out funny commentary and cuddling up with you on the couch. And honestly, you’d look like the cutest winter couple ever, with him keeping you smiling and on your toes every single second!
With Remus, it’d be a softer, cozier kind of magic. He’d love going on hikes with you, quietly hanging onto every word as you talk about the plants and mushrooms you discover, completely fascinated by your love for herbology. And when it’s time for sledding? Remus would surprise you with a competitive streak, laughing as he races down the hill, but he’d always make sure you’re okay (and probably end up in the snow beside you just for fun).
Afterward, he’d be the first to suggest cozying up by the fire with hot cocoa, wrapping you both up in blankets, and he’d get so invested in the Ghibli movie or cartoon, sharing little thoughts or just quietly enjoying it with you. You and Remus would be all about soft smiles, warmth, and the kind of quiet moments that make everything feel just right.

Since my epic Studio Ghibli Summer is officially over, here's my ranking of the films I watched (which, I know, isn't every movie Ghibli has ever made):
Spirited Away (My favourite! (Also IMDb's favourite, apparently, and the Oscar winning one.) The spirit world looks so fascinating and I can't help being a sucker for 'The monster is just misunderstood'. And, well, 'a neglected child wanders off into a dream world', you know... There's so much going on visually and in terms of subtext that Japanese people probably understand much better. I watched this in the cinema when I was 12 or so, the perks of growing up with weebs as friends.)
The Cat Returns (This one has the best action. Also, talking cats! And a girl gets transformed into a cat! And it's like a sequel to WotH. I watched this one first, which makes it even better - WotH also reveals the backstory of the Baron. I actually can't decide if I like this or WotH better. This one is a bit more light-hearted and fast-paced where WotH is meditative and melancholic, but they're both great in their own way..
Whisper of the Heart (This one just spoke to me. It's about a girl who's fascinated by objects in a second hand store - it's basically about me! On a deeper level it's about... well, many things. Among them: growing up without support for your dreams - even though her family is at least nice to her, but they just don't really get it - and beating yourself up for not being as good at following them as someone who gets a lot more support. Something to think about.)
Porco Rosso (My sister raved about this, which maybe makes me biased, but I liked that it was more adult than the other films, and it just has a certain charm. I wonder how they came up with the premise. 'Hey, let's make the main character an anthropomorphic pig!' - 'So like a furry?' - 'No, he's under a curse!' - 'What's the curse?' - 'Fascism :)))')
Kiki's Delivery Service (I totally like this one for its looks. Such a beautiful vision for what European cities could look like. I wish they did! To me this was probably the most visually appealing film apart from Spirited Away. The end was really funny. Yaaay 100 people just died when a zeppelin crashed into several buildings, but this one random boy survived, party time!)
Ponyo (I mainly enjoyed the very counter-intuitive combination of Wagner and a children's movie about a talking fish. Also the mother is such a huge badass, it made me giggle. I wish we had gotten more backstory about Ponyo's parents though, that was the part that really interested me.)
(Continuing the list at number 7...)

Castle in the Sky (Kinda cool. Looks kinda simple compared to the later films, but I liked the story.)
When Marnie was here (I would have liked this better if I had watched it earlier in the summer, but I was already getting fed up with the Ghibli overload by the time I got around to it. Usually I like films that are like puzzles, where you have to gather clues and figure out what's happening. I kinda half-figured it out before the plot twist.)
From up on Poppy Hill (I mainly like the unconventional (by Ghibli standards) soundtrack)
My neighbour Totoro (This one is probably very good, but not my taste. I found it kinda boring, but I was more in an 'urban' mood anyway and even skipped most of the other more rural films.)
Howl's Moving Castle (This one I had watched before and it used to be my favourite. Then I read the book this year and the book and the film ruined each other for me. Epic fail on my part! Not the fault of the film really, but all I could think while watching was 'They completely changed this from the book!' The typical Ghibli vibe seemed too sugary when put on a book with a more cynical tone, only the book also seemed too cynical when seen through the lens of the film. I watched the film and also thought 'So this is how it could have been if the characters hadn't been so selfish and judgy to each other all the time!' As I said, epic fail on my part. Now I can enjoy neither.)
The Boy and the Heron (Surreal = Good. Watching this after 13 other Ghibli movies = It just doesn't impress me anymore.)
The Wind Rises (Nothing happens, kinda. I know, a lot happens, but also... kinda nothing.)
The Princess Kaguya (I don't get what's supposed to be so great about this. It's too long and the plot is predictable. I did like the end.)
The secret world of Arietty (This one I actively disliked. It seems to not be in the Ghibli spirit, which is of course up to me to define /s The housekeeper is Evil For No Reason, something I hadn't seen in other Ghibli films. I don't like evil aunties and grandiose speeches about the importance of family. There was something so conventional about this film, it was like something made by Disney.)
#studio ghibli#putting the rest under the cut to spare ppl who only want to read positive opinions here#no judgement for that#especially since ghibli movies are also comfort movies for many

I wanted to do a cheesy inspiration chart for Wucy... Tbh, I don't really create characters by going, "I want them to have x, y, and z trait!" They usually just sort of pop in my head and I refine them from there without much second thought about it. But Lucy has a few details that I'm like, "...Yeah, that's probably where that comes from!!"
Rambles for each under the cut
Nausicaä - The Ghibli movie version, I've never read the original manga. Prefers pursuing peaceful resolutions to conflicts but is a hairline away from snapping and going ham on the people threatening her loved ones. Her motivation is simple and altruistic - she just wants to protect her home and the natural world. They're the daughters of leaders in their communities but don't hold themselves "above" others. They're involved in their communities, know everyone personally, and work alongside their neighbors.
Katara - ATLA is one of my favorite series to this day, so this is unsurprising to me LMAO Strong-willed, brave, wants to fight and take action to help people instead of filling a more peaceful role. Her emotional depth is a strength and helps her connect to people that might otherwise be over-looked or unreachable. If you wrong her, you have to take actions to redeem yourself, she's not gonna do it for you. Will fight a war that she's too young to be in. Likes a little girly time :) “I will never, ever turn my back on people who need me.”
Catharine - From the webcomic, Sister Claire. Maternal, compassionate, but her love makes her a fighter to be reckoned with. She's willing to [literally] take on the pain of others, even at a detriment to herself. Never stops pursuing the possibility of a better life and a safer world. She may make mistakes, but they are done out of love; a normal person traversing abnormal circumstances the best she can. I really loved her hairstyle of long hair braided to be tied back. Commenters also love her "boopable" nose, so I think of that every time I draw Lucy's nose too 🥺
Ashitaka - Ya, another Ghibli film character [sage nod] Comes from a small town where peace is shattered by outside forces that encroach on the innocent. While Ashitaka is affected directly by being cursed, Lucy is affected by her best friend's murder. They are both motivated to leave their homes in favor of seeking a "cure," of finding the source of their trauma and correcting it. Neither of them directly want revenge, though, they both simply want to make sense of things and find the best solution. Despite the (justifiable!) rage and hatred boiling in them both, neither character enjoy nor want to act on it. They see how badly scarred the world is and how old pains are fueling only more pain; they want it all to just stop so everyone can move forward to a place of peace.
Bonus: She's also directly (and knowingly) inspired by a story Matt Colville told about one of the games he ran years ago :D The reality of living in a world of adventurers and monsters is pretty terrible!!! Lucy's one of those laymen that grew up in that reality and was affected by it... and wanted to do something about it once she was old enough!!
#dnd#Lucy#memes#misc#i think about these influences for her a lot so i wanted to make a post about it#it's my blog i can ramble if i wanna :T

AY YO I GOT TAGGED
by one of my longest and dearest Tumblr friends, @octoberinflorence Thank you, Jen! Hope all is well with you, my dearest.
*cracks knuckles* A'ight, let's get into it:
LAST SONG: That's What I Want - Lil Nas X (I love that album, I'm not sorry)
FAVORITE COLOR: royal blue, royal purple, emerald green, and light pink.
CURRENTLY WATCHING: Well, I finished the second season of Interview With the Vampire last week; it's literally my favorite show! And now I don't know what to do with myself, AHHH! Except wait for season 3 (which I am SO looking forward to).
LAST MOVIE: I just saw Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings yesterday at a cook-out at my friends house, and I have to say, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it! I'm surprised a sequel hasn't come out yet.
CURRENTLY READING: The Vampire Armand by Anne Rice, since Armand as a character really intrigued me this second season. It's beautifully written, even though it's such a sad story already. I'm also reading The Puzzle Wood by Rosie Andrews. It's a creepy book about a woman going undercover as a governess to find out what happened to her sister.
I'm also re-reading Dracula by Bram Stoker (yeah...I'm very much in a Gothic horror state-of-mind, if you couldn't tell), along with some history books: Mona Lisa: A Life Discovered by Dianne Hales, Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman by Robert Massie, and Marie Antoinette: The Journey by Antonia Fraser.
SWEET, SPICY OR SAVORY: Gonna reveal myself to be the truly gluttonous person ever and say the best combination is spicy and savory together, with something sweet to top it off.
RELATIONSHIP: Empress Elizabeth of Singledom, if you please. *extends hand for you to kiss*
CURRENT OBSESSION: continuing my Spanish and French lessons; Gothic horror; Renaissance and 18th century history; Jacob Anderson, Sam Reid, and Assad Zaman (I have a three-way crush on them and I've reached a level of harlotry I didn't even know I possessed, LOL); Studio Ghibli movies (I've been re-watching them lately; and That's Spooky podcast, which is such a great podcast.
LAST GOOGLED: For some reason, I Googled The Addams Family??? Who knows why my brain does the things it does at 2:00 in the morning, LOL.
CURRENTLY WORKING ON: Absolutely nothing, because my students are on summer vacation, and so am I! I don't have a care in the world right now and I'm savoring it. However, I'm starting to pack for my annual trip to the Hudson Valley in New York to visit my mom's side of the family. I'm leaving on Wednesday and I'll be back on Sunday, but I'll be in and out during that time.
Tagging: @1980s-jean-ralphio, @laprofesoratinacita, @becauseismellgood, @perpulchra, @shvkespearc, and @wifeofbath

Soft Sunday:4day weekend
Osamu/Atsumu/Mattsun
First full day lots of lazy activities… these three work a lot so I’m sure the first day would be alot lounging and “adult” activities.
Second day- probably a day trip outside the city. Fresh air and picnics. Bonus if there is local small festival going on.
Third day: they are very much gonna be taking me to any art happenings going on. Art fairs may not be the Miya twins personal thing to go to, but they enjoy learning about my world like I enjoy learning about their world of interests
Fourth day: home and maybe brunch out with friends and family. More cuddling soft kisses with back and foot rubs.🥰
Kuroo gets his own section cause he got a family to keep occupied. He would plan out three day family getaway. Ghibli Museum tour( he totally booked it for me and the kids). Oh we totally hitting up the Mario world theme park( family competition at Mario kart). Just cause he loves me especially he will take me to the Sailor Moon museum and BUY the jimmy choo sailor moon red boots.
Finished third & fourth day taking a trip out the country side to star gaze. Camp out. Cuddling when the kids are sleep. Giving him kisses cause he the best dad and hubby ever.
Soft Sunday: Four Day Weekend With: Osamu/Atsumu/Mattsun/Kuroo
I also would like a four day weekend with Mattsun. If he keeps me to himself for certain activities for a whole day I'm not gonna complain. Since I'm not feeling well, I might ask him to cook for me (and let me watch.) He is way too handsome.
For the other days, I might want to go to a sports bar with him. I want to play darts and have some bar snacks. We can pretend to be competitive against each other even though it's actually just flirting. Maybe go to karaoke after, I don't know.
A day to hang out with friends and family would be good too. Seeing him interact with nieces and nephews (does he have siblings? I can't remember). Or just seeing him act dumb with the other Seijoh boys.
Day four is a rest day for me too! We can lounge on the sofa and watch movies and catch up on any shows we've been watching. For dinner we can order pizza! And yeah, I expect lots of kisses throughout the day.
