Alain Prost's praise for the champion who has become his equal

If he wasn't initially keen to talk, it wasn't because he didn't want to share his place on the list of four-time F1 world champions (with Sebastian Vettel), but because he didn't have the time. Alain Prost really likes Max Verstappen and has never been reluctant to speak highly of the Dutch driver for L'Équipe. The French world champion finally agreed to give us his analysis of his 27-year-old counterpart last Sunday. Thirty minutes of Zoom interview that demonstrate the esteem, even admiration, of the 69-year-old former driver for Verstappen.

Having Verstappen as a neighbor on the prize list. Does that mean anything to you?

Yes, sincerely. I am pleased to be in such good company. Because there are only three of us with four titles, but I remember when Michael joined me and when Lewis came through. I will not forget that Fangio was the first driver to win four crowns (the Argentinian champion was crowned a fifth time). All the same, we're among a handful of names who, without sounding presumptuous (he reflects), are out of the ordinary. We're part of history. To be a four-time world champion is a kind of pride. And Max, looking back on his career, can be proud of it. He hasn't stolen any of his crowns. You can have a bit of luck, like me in 1986, but you have to know how to provoke it and then seize it. Max is not missing anything. I remember that in 2016 during his first victory I was commentating for Canal and I promised him a bright future. He didn't disappoint me. What he's already achieved is really impressive. Verstappen is clearly unique. He is not just anyone, whether it's his personality, his character or his commitment. You can love him or hate him, but he certainly doesn't leave you indifferent. Like many great champions, he's atypical.

This crown, do you think it was the hardest for him to win?

Only he can say. I don't know what his car was really worth. (He reflects.) And then we mustn't forget that highly controversial title in 2021. It's still very difficult to have an objective analysis. Frankly, both of them (Hamilton and Verstappen) deserved the title for the whole season. It was Max who won it in the conditions we all know. It was his first crown, and once again he went out and won it. It's always difficult to win your first crown. In fact, I remember very well what I said that evening in Abu Dhabi: from now on we'll see the real Verstappen. And we've seen him since then (he smiles). He's freed himself. He's erased his little mistakes and his impatience. He's become very, very strong. Coming back to this year, he's had to fight hard and I think he's shown some very fine things. A lot of confidence, a lot of serenity. Even when he complains, but he has always done it, he did it with less annoyance. That's the mark of a more accomplished champion.

You describe an extraordinary champion. Does he have any weaknesses?

At the moment, it's hard to find any. I don't know what he'll do in the future, but even in terms of communication, with all the rumours with Mercedes and the worries with Red Bull, I've found him to be very solid… He's good on all terrains. He's a very tough driver on the track, but you can't see that as a weakness.

So he'll be unbeatable next year?

Well, next year is another debate. It will be a rather special year, the last with the current ground-effect car. We've already seen a tightening of performance between different teams. Max's strength is that, in certain races, he can make the difference all by himself. And that's a big advantage for a team, and of course for the Championship. So I'd still put him as favourite next year, but now the other teams know that Red Bull is beatable.

When Vettel won his fourth crown, you were delighted because you felt he was very close to you in terms of personality. Do you think Verstappen is more on the side of Ayrton Senna?

Max has a lot in common with Ayrton, especially at the start of their careers. Today, a little less so. He has his own way of being. He's always followed his own idea, in his own way. That's why, when you get to know him a little, I think he's close to Seb or me. These are things I like about him. On the track, I find him very respectful.

Very respectful?

Yes, in his own way. He's not a cheater. You're going to talk to me about track limits. But it's the way he drives; it's an education. For him, it's the norm. The best proof is that when he's penalized, he accepts it. As always, he goes as far as he can.

Hamilton fought against Alonso or Nico Rosberg, you against Senna. Do you think he lacks high-level opponents to climb even higher in the collective imagination?

Nowadays, it's the rule not to have two drivers of the same level in a team. But Max has had to deal with Ricciardo, Gasly and Perez. After all, they're not just heats! We're talking about Grand Prix winners. You're talking about his popularity. The good thing about Max is that he's free. He doesn't cheat: he's just the way he is, following his thing. Tomorrow, he could tell you that in a month's time he's quitting, and nobody would be surprised! That's him and that's his thing. He certainly cares much less about the image he may have than many other drivers. But I think he'll be remembered as an incredibly talented driver. Very tough, of course, but his four titles are totally deserved and he's right up there at the top.

Sebastian Sallow Headcanons

Shitty attempt at headcanons for my morally gray, stubborn Sebby boy in Sebastian Sallow Fucking Sucks. It's long for literally no reason besides I don't know how to shut up.

My Seb has gone through it. He suffers - but he also deserves it for that whole "ignorant" outburst days after what happened in the Restricted Section on the night of the Yule Ball. So yeah, he's begging for forgiveness by the end when he realizes how torn he and MC's relationship has become - not without stubbornly trying to get under her skin first.

This idiot constantly wears tight clothes - not because he knows it drives MC insane, though if he noticed, it would get much much worse for her lol- but it's because he's so damn messy he grabs the first clean thing he can find in the morning (slutty little vests, tight sweaters, button downs with stressing buttons - RIP MC).

Reading glasses - enough said.

He's an extremely adept magic wielder. Not only can he cast multiple Unforgivables with shorter cooldowns, but his spells are obscenely strong. MC has not been able to beat him in a duel since that very first time.

That being said, he can't cast a patronus because he's a sad emo boy.

Fav spell: Confringo. Secret fav spell: Imperio.

It's not with the times, but he would definitely listen to metal music. You can't convince me otherwise.

The morally gray/dark wizard line is sooooo veryyyyyy thinnnnnnnn and will get worse.

He doesn't trust aurors and would NEVER BECOME ONE!!!!!!!! Why do ya’ll want him to be a cop so bad??? (Unless he's a dirty cop lol)

Career-wise, he'd be a curse breaker, healer, or a dark wizard 😌

Irrevocably dedicated to the ones he loves, and if he feels its dire enough, he will hurt them to protect them. Trust me on this - for no reason in particular😇

A skilled healer due to countless hours in the library studying up on a cure for Anne.

Has burned his fingerprints off with too many fire spells. And speaking of his fingers, it's common to spot him with ink staining his skin from all his note taking.

While he's charming and cocky, he sees himself as lesser, dispensable, and directly blames himself for all of his life tragedies.

Anger issues - duh.

Not sure if I'll even get into this in SSFS, but my Seb comes from a family of the Dark Arts - whether he's aware of it or not. We already know Solomon used them. I'd like to think his parents did as well, which is what led to their deaths. The Sallow line is cursed as fuck. Will be exploring this more in a future Dark Seb project where he has to break this curse.

Will make dick jokes. No one is safe.

While he'd make a great beater in Quidditch, his life just doesn't have space for trivial things. He's too busy with murder.

Speaking of body count LOL, he's charmed quite a few witches, but no one has shorted his brain quite like MC. He's intently studied some interesting books in the Restricted Section fantasizing testing out some things.

Idk when his birthday is lol. I'm just agreeing with everyone else.

Seb's relationship with Ominis is interesting....I'll be perfectly honest, I'm not sure if their friendship is going to survive in my world. Seb crosses too many lines. Obliviating your best friend really drives a wedge between you.

THE manipulator. We don't get to see too much of this in SSFS because we're in MC's pov. Particularly because he uses his wiles differently on her. But one of my favorite examples is even as he's mocking her for her poor attempt at lying in the broom closet, he's actively making her anxious (and hot and bothered lol) with that little thread on her sweater. And eventually she slips up. He's such a mother fucker lol.

Everyone gets insecure sometimes, even if they try to hide it — or run far away from it.

Like Ominis, who is terrified of himself. He wants to be good; wants to be the kind and gentle and true boy he promised himself he would be. Sometimes it’s easy, and other times it’s easier to be cruel. To spit venom at those who’ve wronged you instead of hiding your fangs. He feels that seed of darkness tended to by his family, and spends every day trying to stamp it out; disgusted and ashamed by his own baser instincts.

And Sebastian, who embraces those instincts — even when it’s clear he should ignore them. But he can’t help that he’s passionate. And oftentimes those instincts are correct, anyway. Still, it’s not a trait he’s always proud of, especially when it winds up costing him (and those he’s closest to) dearly. He’ll admit that it’s exhausting to feel everything all of the time. He drowns in it. No, that’s not it — he burns with it, fearing that one day he’ll destroy everything.

Garreth knows this fear of extremes. He’s always seemingly either too much or not enough. Too loud, and reckless, and brash; but still not intelligent enough, or responsible enough, or good enough. He tries to maintain his carefree persona, but the criticisms stack up. His friends, his professors, his parents… they all tell him to calm down. Follow the rules. Be more like your brothers. For once, he just wants to be allowed to be himself.

Natty, a Gryffindor through and through, just wants to make the right choices. She has to do the right thing™️, and most of the time the solution is obvious. But still she questions herself; looking back on every little turn she’s made on her journey thus far and worrying if perhaps she’ll never be able to save everyone. No matter how many fights she wins or lives she saves, there will always be evil in the world that she can’t extinguish — and that sense of helplessness plagues her more than she’d care to admit.

Poppy has always been on the outside looking in. It began with her family, who she wanted to love but secretly despised (and who resented her in turn), and just when she thought she’d found her place… it’s the same story all over again. She may brush off the rude comments, the nicknames — there goes Peculiar Poppy, at it again — but they serve as a constant reminder of her lot in life. Once in a while, it would be nice to truly belong.

Imelda doesn’t need other peoples’ approval to know who she is. She’s strong, and confident, and… well, she worked damn hard to get where she is today. Maybe she’s a little stand-offish, and sure she can be a bit cruel, but that’s how you protect yourself. She guards herself so nobody can ever take away from those carefully cultivated parts of her, and yes… it’s lonely. It’s thankless. Is she missing out on something greater than the brief high of success? Hasn’t she earned some love and recognition, too?

Your family was seated in the front row as the ceremony started. Several of your past costars like RDJ, Elizabeth Olsen and Winona Ryder were in attendance to celebrate the milestone.

The presenter started of by giving a speech about your accomplishments while you stood to the side. It felt like forever but eventually the first speech was about to be said by none other than Hugh.

“Twelve years ago, I was here receiving my star. My family was there and it was one of the best days ever. I remember you, my love, saying something in your speech that had stuck with me ever since. She said ‘you are, and ever shall be, my greatest delight’ and that’s what you are to me. We met when we were young. When I first saw you, the world around me had receded into a blur and all I saw was you. To quote one of our favorite movies, ‘they say when you meet the love of your life, time stops, and that’s true’. You have given me the best family and so much love. Also I quickly want to say that if anyone here thinks love at first sight is bullshit, I’ve got my proof right here,” he gave you a quick kiss on the lips as the crowd cheered. “I’m just happy that I met her so early so I didn’t spend a great time looking for her. And to wrap things up, because I can see our daughter shooting glares at me . . . My love, your star here is not just a mark of your achievements, but a symbol of the love and respect you’ve earned from all who know you. I love you, forever and always.”

And with that Hugh and the rest of the crowd clapped for you. You were practically in tears listening to Hugh’s speech. You were definitely going to scold him later for making you cry.

“You deserve this and more.” Hugh whispered to you as he gave you a hug and a kiss on the forehead.

“I hate you right now, you made me cry,” you wiped away a tear. “I love you.”

Which wouldn’t matter he’d still out drink you based on weight/size alone, so I guess try not to die is the only goal?

When you do actually get him drunk?

The flirtiest, giggliest drunk you’re ever met

Sebastian will laugh at literally everything, it makes him so much easier to talk with

Honestly? He deserves it. He’ll smile at you so softly and actually fully listen when you talk. Maybe he’s not the brightest, or most talkative, but he has weirdly good advice

2010, Winter break

If anyone asks, Y/N was not waiting on Sebastian's call.

She definitely was not checking her phone every five minutes to see if Sebastian left a message or anything. In her defense, she was just a bit worried that Sebastian must have been upset with her not being around. This championship is a big thing and a once in a lifetime achievement so she should have forced herself to celebrate yesterday with the team. With their abrupt leaving yesterday, she fed the media with the narrative that Webbers are crybaby and can't accept that Vettel won.

But she might have given herself away when she picked up the phone without it going on a single ring.

"Whoa its like you were waiting for me to call" Sebastian's teasing voice greeted her.

"Well hello there Mr. World Champion" Y/N replied back "Seems like you've been busy"

Sebastian chuckles at the other end and Y/N could just picture that smile on his face right now.

"Not too busy, just chilling around" Sebastian shrugs.

Y/N wraps her jacket closer to her body. It was snowing today in Australia, a big contrast to the tropical weather of Abu Dhabi. She finds herself thinking if Sebastian is inside his hotel room and taking a break from all the media duties.

"How are you feeling champ?"

"Amazing. Unreal. Phenomenal. High" Sebastian enumerates.

She was brimming with joy for Sebastian. It was really a well-deserved win. She wished that she could be there for Sebastian but her health is really taking a toll on her.

"You don't have to worry"Sebastian reassures "I'll win the championship again next year and you could celebrate with me then"

"Really? You are that confident?"

"Of course especially when you are smiling wildly like that"Sebastian teased.

"You got that I'm smiling from hearing my voice?" Y/N confusedly asked.

"Look out your window"

There was no way that Sebastian would be traveling all the way to Australia just to see her. However, there was the german driver standing with a grin on his face. Y/N didn't waste any more time and ran down to hug the world champion.

"You're fucking crazy Seb" Y/N exclaimed before hugging him.

They could feel both of their hearts pounding as they exchanged gleeful chuckles with each other.

"Only for you Y/N" Sebastian whispers "Only for you"

And Y/N swears her heart just went faster.

It was a different feeling walking back to the paddock and having so many people cheer your name. For Sebastian, being the current world champion, has instantly given him a boost of fans especially among the young boys, who wanted to be a world champion just like him.

He never felt intimidated by the kids but with the way that this blonde kid has been making his way to him, Sebastian would like to rethink his decision that kids aren't scary.

"You are Sebastian Vettel right?" the blonde-haired kid asked.

The kid was dressed in a casual way without any team merchandise or branding with him. He looked pretty serious looking for a kid of his age and Sebastian swears he seen this look before. He cautiously looked at the paddock passes that hung around the child's neck, Mick Schumacher.

"I am Sebastian" Sebastian straightens himself up.

"I have heard a lot of things about you from Y/N" Mick said "I need to talk to you privately about her"

Sebastian could only nod as he led the young Schumacher to his driver's room. He honestly didn't think that he would be following a young kid's orders but here he is.

"What do you wanna talk about?"Sebastian started to ask

"I heard you went to her over the christmas break that's why she couldn't join us to go for skiing" Mick paced the room "And I heard you also took her to Monaco for her birthday"

The way Mick looked at Sebastian, he honestly doubt if Mick is actually a Michael Schumacher in disguise.

"And so what's your deal with her?"Mick crossed his arms "Do you like her?"

"What? How can you possibly say that, that's cra-"

"You do things for Y/N that my Papa does to my Mama"Mick said

His face was heating up by the ambush questioning of Mick and he felt himself sweating with the pressure building up. Sebastian already knew of his feelings from long ago but he couldn't understand why he doesn't have the guts to admit it.

"Well, I'm waiting here"Mick was an impatient kid "Do you like her or not?"

"I like her" Sebastian mumbles as if its a secret he only wanted to shared with himself.

"What? I can't hear you"

"Fine, I like her. I like Y/N" Sebastian admits louder.

It was the first time that Sebastian saw a small smile appear on Mick's face. He felt like his shoulders relaxed a bit while the young boy sits on one of the couches.

"So if you like her then why don't you make a move on her?"

Sebastian was stumped by the boy's question. Why doesn't he make a move on her?

"Well its complicated Mick and its not easy because I might lose a friend" Sebastian argues "It's not that I don't want to make a move on her but I don't want to put her in a difficult position"

"But isn't this also difficult for the two of you? Pretending you two are friends when you two are so much more"Mick had a good point.

He scratches his head. He actually had a plan long ago about confessing to Y/N when he becomes world champion but its been months after he became a world champion but he has no where near a game plan of how to confess to Y/N.

"You adults are so complicated, no wonder Mama doesn't want me to grow up"Mick complains.

"You won't get it, its too complicated and dangerous"

"You drive fast cars for a living and you say that telling a girl that you like how you feel is dangerous" Mick pouts.

Sebastian could only laugh how smart Mick was. He cannot believe that a young boy is telling him what to do with his love life.

"I only came here for one thing and that's for you to make a promise to have good intentions with Y/N"Mick added "Y/N is one of the best person out there and she takes care of me and my sister when our parents are not around"

There was a clear adoration in Mick's eyes and Sebastian felt himself warm up to how Mick is here because he is looking out for Y/N. He gave him a small pat in the back.

"Don't worry about it, I got her"

"Promise me that you won't hurt her okay? Even if it takes time for you to say your feelings"Mick reiterated.

"I promise Mick"Sebastian chuckles.

The little boy felt comforted by Sebastian's words and soon enough the two were engaging about a topic on motorsports. It turns out that having a great adoration for Y/N isn't their only shared interest. As they were heading out of the Red Bull motorhome, they encountered a very stressed out Y/N.

"Ohmygod Mick, we have been looking everywhere for you" Y/N worriedly states "Your Papa and Mama has been worried sick"

"I only went to have a chat with Seb"Mick grins.

Y/N looked at Sebastian suspiciously as if trying to figure out what the two talk about.

"Should I be worried?"

"You shouldn't stress about it"Sebastian assures "C'mon lets get little Schumi back to Michael"

The walk back to the Mercedes motorhome was how Mick held on both Sebastian and Y/N's hands. The three were giggling with each other while the cameras capture them. If there were new fans on the grid then they would have thought that they are a family walking at the paddock.

Somehow this thought couldn't leave Sebastian's head.

2011, Sepang International Circuit

Sebastian's dominance for the season is being affirmed with his second win for the current season. Y/N understands how this puts a lot of pressure on Mark especially when he feels frustrated that they have the same car but they are performing differently.

Usually, Y/N would congratulate Mark with a stellar drive because he went from P10 to P4 but her older brother is having a tantrum.

"I'm not doing well so save your congratulations for when I win a Grand Prix" Mark was furious with his words.

"Can you be a good sport and just for a second think rationally before speaking"Y/N pleaded.

"I don't give a crap about this" Mark replied "I am here to win and not be Mr. Congeniality"

Y/N slammed the door shut so no one could overhear them talking. With the way their voices are raised right now, Y/N's main goal was not to let the media get a whiff of this whole conversation.

"Seriously Mark, this isn't you... What is happening to you"Y/N asked.

"I'm actually done playing nice one with Sebastian and I'm focused on how to beat him this season" Mark stated "I don't care if he is your friend but on track he is a different person and I'll start acting like that"

"Mark, this isn't good for you"

"Just shut it Y/N if you're not going to help me win" Mark's words were cold.

And he left Y/N with her devices. Y/N couldn't believe that Mark could say such words but she attributes it to the pressure that must have been building up at his side of the garage. She just brushes it off as a bad weekend attitude from Mark.

2011, Silverstone circuit

Webber made the second driver again.

Mark Webber must have thought that he can secure a win for this weekend with his pole position advantage. However as the race began, Sebastian Vettel, his teammate and current world champion, has received a better start. Vettel was quick to surpass his teammate and hold a comfortable distance between them. Webber was able to retake the lead when Vettel had a pitstop but his victory was only shortlived after Webber suffers a horrendous pitstop.

By the end of the race, the controversial radio of Red Bull telling Webber to retain his position behind Sebastian. But Webber disobeyed the orders and continues to fight for Sebastian at the very end. Unfortunately for the Australian driver, Sebastian Vettel stays ahead claiming P2 and him in P3. Well its not bad for a second driver, atleast you are still in the podium Mark.

Webber and Button reunited in McLaren.

Y/N Webber and Jenson Button are spotted leaving the Silverstone Circuit last Sunday. Eagle-eyed fans spotted how they went straight to the McLaren Technology Center. It is quite funny because as one may recall it, Y/N Webber is technically a Red Bull employee as Mark's personal assistant. So what is she doing winding up in the enemy's territory?

2011, Nürburgring

Sebastian would like to think that this is all just an elaborate prank and that Y/N transferring to McLaren is just a joke. However, as race week start to approach and he sees how Y/N is wearing a McLaren team merchandise, Sebastian was out of focus.

He immediately seeks out his teammate because how could he have let Y/N go to other teams.

"Mark, what the fuck is going on with Y/N?" Sebastian barged in "I just saw her entering McLaren"

"What do you think it looks like?" Mark scoffed.

There is no way that Y/N would have been supporting McLaren unless she wasn't actually supporting McLaren.

"You fucking fired her?"

It was the only logical explanation available for Sebastian. Y/N got fired by Mark and Y/N had to find another job to sustain herself. Sebastian already know that McLaren has been trying to poach Y/N since Jenson moved there but he was always confident that Y/N would only switch if Mark fired her.

"I have to"Mark confirms "She is a distraction for me and a liability"

"A liability? A distraction?" Sebastian was bewildered.

"Yes because as long as she is here then I cannot fight you for the championship because I'm thinking how my personal relationship is at stake if I fight you"Mark was placing the blame on Y/N "But I want to fucking win"

Sebastian was beyond speechless. He have seen how much Y/N has tried her best to seperate their friendship and her family relationship especially during the championship. He felt so angry because all Y/N has been doing for the past few years has been to support Mark. But Mark has a too big of an ego to see that.

"You better watch yourself because I'm going to run you to the wall" Sebastian promised.

There was a certain anger in Sebastian's eyes because he felt like he would be driving with a personal vendetta for the next few races. Y/N has been so wronged by her brother and Sebastian promises that he will make it much more difficult for Mark.

"Is that a threat Vettel?"

You are here and that's all that matters.

If Shinigami hold a person's soul when they die, Ciel can only hope that none of them come after you, because now that you're back he promises to protect you. He will use all the resources necessary to keep you alive and well.

Astarion and Agency- The Necessity of Discomfort to Self Discovery and the Infantilization of Victims

Minor Astarion discourse ahead that mentions the treatment of SA victims post-abuse:

I want to open this post up just with like. The statement that I don't think there is a correct way to enjoy media and that I LOVE to see individual head cannons and takes on characters in media. I think that is also, to a degree, an integral part of video games because of how unique the experience of playing a game will be to every person who plays it. But it has been making me feel so incredibly sad looking through fan content, art, or discourse for BG3 specifically because of how many people have taken the route of infantilizing Astarion.

I understand the instinct to shield or protect an individual that you love and care for. I also understand that because of the nature of the things that Astarion goes through, a lot of people also feel very deep emotional stakes in him. I'm one of the many fans of the character who is a victim of SA and CSA, I really do get it. That is also why for me personally it is so demoralizing to watch so many people treat him like he is a child who cannot make his own decisions or stand up for himself. Part of that frustration stems from it feeling like a media literacy issue, and the other part of that sense of defeat is just because it feels indicative of a broader attitude that people seem to hold towards victims of abuse, particularly those who are victims of SA.

To explain what I mean by people infantilizing him: I see so many people refuse to allow him the opportunity to be hurt, or to feel uncomfortable. They see this character who has been through an immensely horrible and traumatic experience, and their instinct is to try and shield him from anything else that has the potential to upset him. I get that the people who want that aren't doing it with malicious intent, but frankly it is not really...Helpful? To try and prevent victims from Experiencing Discomfort tm. I also think it kind of disregards the entire thesis of Astarion's character and arc.

When you go through something that robs you of your selfhood and agency, the world can become a crushingly terrifying place. In Astarion, that fear presents itself in a desperation for power, control, and at the core of both of these desires- Safety. One thing the game is clear about is that he has a right to kill his abuser. He has a right to escape his situation. A lot of Astarion's personal arc is centered around being able to finally do that. But the game doesn't just leave it off at getting him to safety. So much of it is also about him needing to take responsibility for himself and his actions, with needing to learn who he as a person is.

The inclusion of the Gur children and Sebastian as characters is a good example of ways in which the game gives Astarion the opportunity to take responsibility. I think that if the intention of the arc was meant to be that "Astarion should never ever have to deal with being afraid or uncomfortable again", then the Ascended arc wouldn't Come with such heavy moral ramifications, like sacrificing the other people just like him, killing the victims he lured in, literal child murder. The game infers that he doesn't deserve to die because of the things he Needed to do to survive, but it also makes it very clear that there is a difference between addressing an Active Threat and using your fear as an excuse to hurt others. Breaking that cycle of abuse when he finally gets the chance to is what separates Spawn Astarion from Cazador.

Taking responsibility for himself, and letting himself sit in the discomfort of vulnerability ultimately ends up being a thing that he is very proud of and cherishes. If you tell him you will make sure nothing like that ever again he himself says that he doesn't want you to be his protector. And so it blows my mind when people go into all of these discussions about Astarion with this...Weird moral high ground for never, ever making or letting him make choices that might hurt him?

I see this the most when it comes to discussions about the possible polyamorous relationship with Halsin and the interaction with the drow twins in the brothel. So many people are just...outright angry? At other people engaging with either of those options? And I feel like that anger is one) rooted in the projection of their Own feelings on non-monogamy and what a victim of SA can or cannot look like. and two) Relies on undermining the agency that Astarion BEGS you for at every turn.

When it comes to the drow twins, the game adapts Astarion's response to them based on where he is in his own personal development (a really cool thing imo). Obviously, if he still doesn't feel good or safe about engaging with sex he declines and says you can feel free, though he hopes you aren't just doing it because he hasn't had sex with you. I think this makes sense: He's just gotten out of a situation where his Safety and worth were directly tied to him having sex. I imagine he feels afraid that not wanting to have sex with you makes him replaceable or inadequate because at this point in the game, he feels like that's all he has to offer. The interaction is relatively the same if you ask him for a poly amorous relationship with Halsin: He just asks you to reassure him that you aren't only doing it because he hasn't had sex with you, and then tells you he isn't worried about it otherwise.

A lot of people have taken the expression of that insecurity in combination with him still allowing you to go forward and do these things as him just "sucking it up" because he's afraid of losing you. (I am aware Shadowheart says he wouldn't be able to handle it when you ask her if you can date both of them- But keep in mind, Astarion says she wouldn't be able to either, and THAT obviously isn't true of her. For the purposes of this discussion I'm only including interactions with Astarion as a judgement of his character.) I understand that concern, but I feel this take disregards so many other points of dialogue, and is also continually rooted in the baseline vilification of discomfort.

To further go into it, the way that he speaks about both of these interactions changes significantly if you speak to him about it once he is completely free from Cazador, and has had time to allow himself to start reconnecting with himself and his sexuality on his terms. He has absolutely No reservations about an open or poly relationship with Halsin, and says he trusts that things will be ok because he one) feels secure in Your relationship and two) Knows Halsin is experienced and trusts him to not be a messy bitch about it.

I think that shift, in combination with the in game explanation of why he isn't ok with being in that sort of relationship with the other Origin Characters (for Lae'zel and Wyll, he says they'd never agree to that. For Shadowheart, he says she's not experienced with open relationships and that he doesn't think it'd work out. For Karlach, that it would break her heart. And for Gale, he says you need standards.) is a pretty good indicator that he doesn't actually care about polyamory or monogamy. I think the vilification of that choice relies on you picking and choosing when you do or do not believe Astarion or just outright not liking non-monogamy in the first place. This interaction has more to do with the player's choice and comfort level, and so is not as important to the broader discussion I am trying to have in this post.

The interaction that is more pertinent to not Allowing him to make decisions is, I think, the drow twins. If you interact with the drow twins after the completion of the Cazador questline, he is outright giddy at the prospect of interacting with the Drow twins. Specifically stating that he is excited to see how he likes these sorts of things now that he's free.

NOW- I do NOT think that he enjoys the act. The game makes that abundantly clear, and I'm not arguing that he has a great time. He obviously does not, and dissociates during it. That being said, allowing this interaction to happen does not make a player evil or selfish. You are not playing the hero if you decide to moderate his choices just because you do not think he is ready for it. Once again, no one is evil for Not doing it either, and I am not saying anybody has to want to. I am just saying that treating this choice like it is an evil choice to make relies on completely disregarding what He wants to do.

Astarion says so many times in the game that he is anxious about finally having the freedom to find out what he wants to do, and I think that his excitement for the drow twin exchange is one of the opportunities the game gives him to make a choice. He makes that choice- And it sucks for him. He doesn't enjoy the act, and having done it he would be able to move forward knowing that. I think it's really cool and important that the game represents that facet of recovering as a victim. While you are trying to renavigate who you are, you are going to make a million new choices you never had before. And sometimes those choices are going to suck ass. It would be a different matter if he knew these things would hurt him and went ahead and did them anyway. But so many people expect him to move forward avoiding even the Potential of being hurt, and I think that is extremely reductive of his arc and who he is.

Beyond the matter of interpersonal relationships, the choice between Ascending or not Ascending Astarion is not a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils. It is a choice between his fear and his humanity. Between letting his trauma and his fear define him for the rest of his immortal life, and allowing him the vulnerability of deciding who he is when he isn't running from the world. When he's willing to listen to the parts of himself that want to do right, that wants meaningful connection, that wants to be proud of himself. That wants to meet himself. To confront who he is when someone else isn't deciding that for him.

Astarion as a character is extremely ambitious, inquisitive, and adventurous, three traits that only become more and more evident as he breaks free from letting his own fear dictate how he lives his life. I don't understand how so many people can see him and want to take the core of his character away from him, when he spends the entire game fighting desperately to take it back.

Victims are not casts of the abuse they have gone through. Their shapes may be changed by the hands of others, they may have to relearn how to be the person they want to be. But they are not broken or irreparable or fragile. They do not need to be freed from the grip of one person to be held tight in the grip of another. It is so fucking unfair and self-important to think that your hands will be the ones that fix them. That your hands know better than theirs. I think the kindest thing you can do for a person is to trust them with themselves, and to listen when they tell you who they are and what they want. Please listen to the voices that have only just learned to speak. It is the only way they can get better at doing it.

Charles had been planning this moment for months. Ever since he met Y/N, he knew that he was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

Y/N, a world famous singer, had stolen his heart with his kind soul and the way he made him laugh and completely understood him. That night, at his concert, he was going to propose.

The lights went down in the arena and the crowd went wild as Y/N took the stage. Many celebrities were there to see the concert as well. Charles was backstage, pacing nervously, holding the small velvet box that contained the ring and mentally repeating the speech he had prepared while his heart pounded in his chest.

Halfway through the set, Y/N paused to catch his breath and address the audience. "Thank you all for being here tonight. This next song is very special to me and I hope you enjoy it." The first notes of the piano filled the air and as Y/N began to sing, Charles walked to the side of the stage.

When the song ended, Y/N looked at the audience without realizing that Charles was walking right towards him, with a microphone in hand, a little nervous as the audience went crazy for his presence..

"Hello, everyone," Charles said, his voice shaking as he laughed nervously. "I'm sorry to interrupt this incredible moment, but I have something very important to ask." He turned to Y/N, his eyes filled with love and adoration. "From the moment I met you, I knew my life would never be the same. You are my best friend and the love of my life. I can't imagine spending another day without you by my side." While Charles was saying all this, Y/N couldn't believe it.

He then knelt down as he pulled the small box out of his suit pocket and the crowd erupted in cheers, feeling lucky to witness this live. Y/N covered his mouth in shock. "Will you marry me?" Charles asked, opening the box to reveal a stunning diamond ring.

Y/N answered yes happily, unable to speak, he stood him up and kissed him passionately and hugged him lovingly. The crowd went crazy.

Backstage, Charles's family watched the proposal on a monitor. Pascale, his mother, was in tears, hugging Arthur and Lorenzo tightly. "I'm so happy for him," she said, her voice choked with emotion. "They are perfect for each other, I am happy that he never listened to those comments and decided to be happy for who he is, love is love, and no one has to forbid it.''

On the grid, news of the proposal spread quickly. Lando couldn't contain his excitement, jumping up and down and shouting, "Yes! Finally!" Max smiled hugely and quickly congratulated Charles. Pierre was smiling from ear to ear and clapping his hands vigorously on the verge of shedding a few tears, he just was so happy for his best friend.

And then there was Sebastian, who had always been like a father to Charles. He called to congratulate him personally. "I always told you to follow your heart, Charles. You deserve all the happiness in the world, no one can tell you what to do or who to be, love is for everyone and I am deeply proud and happy that you have found your person."

HLC REACT TO MC ASKING FOR A KISS 💋

A/N: because consent is sexy

SEBASTIAN SALLOW: He gives MC a devilish smirk. "I don't know. Do you deserve one? My kisses are quite special. Wouldn't want you spoiled rotten on them, would you?" He chuckles at MC's pout and gently holds their face. "I'm only joking, MC. Of course you can have one." He gently kisses their lips.

OMINIS GAUNT: He smiles warmly. He loves it when they ask. He could almost feel their anticipation for an answer. He leans in close, his hand guiding him to MC's chin. He traces their lips with his thumb. "Your kisses are like a breath of fresh air in this rotten world." He kisses them before he starts waxing poetic.

ANNE SALLOW: No matter how long they've been in a relationship, she still gets a little pink when MC asks for her kiss. She coyly kisses their cheek. "What? Was that not what you wanted?" She breaks out in a fit of giggles when MC tries kissing her lips and she keeps turning her head to make them miss.

IMELDA REYES: "Hmm...I guess." She shrugs and gives them a peck on the lips. She'll leave them at that unless MC takes a more assertive approach. If they grab her before she walks away, she can be convinced to give them more.

NATSAI ONAI: "As if you have to ask." She's an enthusiastic kisser. What could be just a request for a simple sweet kiss can become a hot and bothered make out very quickly if MC doesn't reign her in. She'll kiss MC breathless every chance she gets.

GARRETH WEASLEY: He feels all giddy inside when MC asks to kiss him. He's happy they want him. He's happy they desire him. He's just happy! "Come here, you!" His kisses can be a bit sloppy but in a fun way. If he misses their lips, that's okay. He wanted to kiss them there anyway.

LEANDER PREWETT: "A true gentleman always obliges." He takes MC's hand and kisses it first. Then he kisses their cheek, then lips. If he can do all of that without messing it up, he considers it a win. He wants to impress. Maybe they'll give him more kisses if he does well.

AMIT THAKKAR: His heart beats fast, his knees feel weak, palms sweaty. MC wants to kiss him. He's done it before. It's not a big deal, right? They must have liked the last one to ask for another. His might stand there a bit too long processing what MC just asked. MC may have to take matters into their own hands and kiss him before he loses his nerve.

EVERETT CLOPTON: No hesitation. The words barely finish leaving MC's mouth before he connects his lips to theirs. It's a good long kiss, too. He loves the taste of them. He's addicted. Please, keep kissing him.

POPPY SWEETING: She smiles so big and launches herself into their arms. The best kisses in the world are from MC holding her in their arms. They'll have to be careful. She may kiss MC dizzy and they'll fall over.

Introducing my MC

Thank you @lamieboo for the wonderful prompts! I'm taking advantage of #MCtober to finally make an introduction post. This little guy deserves a proper character sheet but alas I just don't got the time this week 😔😔 Someday!! For now plz enjoy some Sunan facts 👇

He was born in Nov of 1874 in a wizards' quarter near Whitehall. He was the only child and grew up pretty close to both his parents. That was, until he was sent to a Muggle boarding school at 13. He kept in touch with his father, but his mother not so much.

His middle name is Ernest. He never thought it suited him.

While at the boarding school he dyed his hair brown to fit in. Reverted it as soon as he returned to the Wizarding World at 15. He still does sometimes when he needs to evade the Rookwood Gang, but hates it. Reminds him of his time as a squib.

The gray hair runs in the father's side of the family. The asymmetrical dimple is from his mother.

Has a small golden pocket watch with him at all times. He fidgets with it when he's bored or anxious. It was a gift from his mother. He won't admit it but it's one of his most prized possessions.

Another one is his broom. He fell in love with broom-flying the moment he took laps around the castle with Everett. When he's not working on homeworks with Sebastian and Ominis he can be found on his broom trying new techniques, or playing two-a-side Quidditch with Everett, Nellie, and Natty. Secretly enjoys watching them bicker over rules and fouls.

He's active and always hungry. Often carries sandwiches or fruits with him. He will eat anything except slimy foods (and durian). Why is jellied eels a thing anyways?

Has a bossy little owl named Oliang, or Oli for short. The brown hawk owl was his father's gift upon his start at Hogwarts. She will ignore you if you don't have treats. She will peck you if you have them but don't give. She can always tell.

He doesn't know his Patronus yet. Perhaps he'll find out soon.

He's not as mature as he thinks. He believes he's done all the growing up after narrowly avoiding death many times during his first year at Hogwarts. But really he's still got a long way to go.

“Oh for fuck sake!”

You turned your head at Noah’s sudden outburst as you both sat on the sofa in your living room.

“What?”

Noah sighed and threw his phone onto the coffee table in front of you.

“That was my manager, apparently our social media is blowing up because the fans have seen pictures of us with our rings on”

You smirked at him slightly.

“So?”

Noah looked frustrated as he turned his body to face you.

“So? I wanted to try and avoid this for as long as possible, we have only been married for 3 weeks and it’s already out there!”

You picked up your phone which has been on silent and saw that your phone had indeed been blowing up with messages, texts, etc all about you two. When you opened the article, you saw a photo of you two smiling with your coffees and walking hand and hand down the street. Clearly a fan had snapped them and both your rings were on full display.

“God that’s an awful picture of me”

You giggled as Noah looked at you in disbelief, “sorry I just don’t see what the big deal is? They were going to find out eventually”

“The big deal is that half of these ‘fans’ are fucking crazy! I don’t want you being exposed to the hate and the drama that these people bring! I know it’s not all but some of these ‘fans’ will pick apart anything I do!”

You gave your husband a small smile and took his hand in yours.

“Being with a famous, talented and extremely handsome frontman of one of the biggest rock bands in the world right now, was always going to have some backlash. This is no different, I don’t take any notice of the ‘crazy fans’ and most are actually very lovely and respectful”

Noah sighed again and looked defeated.

“I know but…you don’t deserve any hate at all and it’s not fair on you to have to put up with it”

“As I said, comes with the territory. Stop worrying and let me deal with the fans, I’m not going anywhere so the haters will have to get used to it won’t they?”

Noah smiled and nodded before leaning in and pressing his lips to yours softly which you returned.

“Besides, they only hate me because they are jealous that I get to have you every night”

“Oh really?”

You smirked and lent in closer.

“Yeah, in fact, I’m really pretty tired right now”

You watched as Noah’s smile grew and he laced his fingers with yours.

“Well then maybe I need to take you up to bed, it’s only what a good husband would do”

“Always looking after his wife”

Noah stood up with you and started leading you out of the room.

“Of course. Now get up those stairs Mrs Davis”

“Sebastian Vettel, you are the world champion!”

“The youngest world champion in F1 history!”

Sofia had heard it all. She wasn’t sad that she couldn’t finish the race, she was happy. At least she could see Sebastian cross the finish line. She had changed into a simple t shirt and jeans with some converse. After the race, all she wanted to do was see Sebastian, but she knew he would be busy with post race interviews so Sofia made her way to the Porsche motorhome in search of a snack.

“Sofia! Hey!” She heard Jenson’s voice as she was about to enter the motorhome. “Your lover boy is looking for you!”

Several people in the paddock stared at both Jenson and Sofia wondering who the lover boy was. The woman chuckled as Jenson winked at her. “You do know everyone just heard you?”

“You do know I don’t care.” Jenson said making her roll her eyes. He catches up to her and gave her a hug. “He’s been asking for you.”

“He can wait. I deserve some ice cream after that shit race.” Sofia replied.

“Yeah, we’ll don’t keep lover boy waiting. It’s annoying when he keeps asking for you. I love you, but please I can’t handle another ‘where’s sofia?’.” Jenson joked.

“I’ll go see him in a bit. He’s probably being held back by reporters.” Sofia said. “Would you like some ice cream?”

Jenson didn’t think twice about that. “Yeah, I could go for some.”

After finishing the vanilla ice cream, Sofia said goodbye to Jenson and made her way to the Red Bull garage. The celebrations were still going on. Soon, she saw Sebastian being congratulated by other people, one of them whispering something in his ear making him turn around and spot her.

“Schatz!” Sebastian ignored everyone around him and hurriedly pulled Sofia into a hug. “I’m so sorry about-”

“It’s doesn’t matter. You’re a world champion, Seb.” Sofia pulled away from the hug and kissed his cheek that taste too much like champagne. She could feel the stares of people on them. The cameras clicking so fast, she was sure one of them was going to pop up in a gossip magazine the next day.

Sebastian then took her hand and led her to his driver’s room where it was much more private. Now it definitely looked like something a couple would do, but Sebastian could care less. He was world champion and he wanted to celebrate with Sofia.

“My mom called, she told me to tell you that she’s proud of you and congratulations.” Sofia mentioned as she entered Sebastian’s drivers room, him following closely behind.

“When is she coming to a race? I haven’t seen her in a while.” Sebastian asked.

“She’s a teacher, she has teacher duties almost everyday. That woman doesn’t know when to stop working.” Sofia chuckled.

“We have to bring her out to a race. Which one do you think she’ll like? I’ll fly her out.”

“You’re going to make me look like a bad daughter.”

She sat on the tiny bed and watched as he got out a shirt and pants. He changed in front of her many times and it was never awkward, they were that comfortable with each other. He unzipped his suit and let it fall to his waist.

“What are your celebration plans? I’m assuming you won’t be in your hotel room until . . . 4am?” Sofia wondered.

“You mean we. You and I are going out.” Sebastian clarified. “It’s not a proper celebration without my best girl.”

“Oh so now I’m your girl?”

“You’ve always been my girl, my best girl.” He repeated.

Sofia stood up and approached him then whispered into his ear.“Funny, I don’t remember you asking me to be your girl.” She smiled then placed a kiss on his cheek. “I’ll be outside waiting, champ.”

Sebastian knew she was just teasing, but hearing her voice so close made him weak in the knees. Her voice had always brought a great comfort to him.

When Sofia left and shut the door, Sebastian let out a deep sigh. “Shit.” He said as he realized that Sofia Barrett had him acting like a lovesick fool.

“Can I speak to you?”

Mark definitely wasn’t expecting Sebastian to be knocking at his hotel room door at 3 am, but here he was. The Australian was exhausted and all he wanted to do was sleep, but Sebastian had other plans.

“Is it important?” Mark asked, half asleep.

“To me it is.” Sebastian replied. Without Mark’s permission, he let himself in. “I need to talk about something that’s been bothering me.”

“Yeah, alright.” Mark said defeated. “What?” He closed the door and walked to his bed.

“Sofia.”

“Sofia . . has been bothering you?” He wasn’t sure if Sebastian was drunk. “Look, I get that I’m older than both of you, but this isn’t like school when someone bothers you and you tattle to the teacher, mate.”

“No, it’s not like that. It’s . . Just don’t make fun of me, okay? I think I’m in love with her, wait no, I am in love with her.” He admitted.

“Are you drunk?”

“I’m completely sober actually. But, yeah, I am in love with Sofia Barrett.” He nodded.

“And this involves me how?”

Sebastian sighed. “I just needed to tell someone and I trust you. Obviously I couldn’t tell Sofia, she’s way out of my league.”

Mark laughed. “Yeah, she is.” He watched as his teammate rolled his eyes. “Did she go out with you to celebrate?”

“She did.” He nodded. “She payed for all the drinks even though I told her not to. She even kissed my cheek many times, not that I’m complaining. She made everyone laugh at the table and then for some reason we started talking about bugs because we saw a bee near by. She started telling me all these facts about bees and I just sat there listening to every word.”

“Oh man, you’re in deep.”
