2015 NAHBS: No 22 Reactor Titanium and Carbon Road
the No22 Reactor marries two very different materials in an overall package that is sure to deliver on both aesthetics and performance.
The frame itself is mostly titanium, with a carbon seat tube. The seat tube cluster is sleeved and the ISP utilizes a titanium seatmast topper, resulting in a light and stiff bike.

60cm:Trek Domane SL6 Disc Women’s review
The award-winning Domane is built for long-distance, multi-day racing, and comfort and efficiency is woven into its DNA. Its siblings at Trek — the aero Madone and flyweight climbing fiend the Emonda — are champions in their categories and, in that respect, the Domane is no different.
Best women’s road bikes: 12 of the best
Best women's bikes: a buyer's guide to find what you need
The Trek Domane SL6 Disc Women’s is one of our Bike of the Year bikes for 2019 and has been crowned best women's road bike. To read reviews of the other contenders and the categories tested across road, mountain and women's bikes, visit our Bike of the Year hub page.
In 2018, in a close-fought battle, the Domane SL6 Disc Women’s took the title of Women’s Road Bike of the Year. This year, with the competition just as close, it’s done it again.

Although labelled as the women’s Domane, it has the same unisex frame as others within the range, but with sex- and size-specific finishing kit, such as the Bontrager Ajna saddle and adapted stem lengths and handlebar widths to suit female riders.
The frame is constructed from 500 series OCLV carbon, coupled with a carbon fork with a tapered steerer.
The clincher for the Domane is its composure and balance: it’s plush, but stiff and efficient

End of an Error
No doubt by now you've seen the CyclingTips story about Mario Cipollini's history of domestic violence:
Mario Cipollini is one of professional cycling's most beloved and enduring characters. But in the wake of serious allegations of violence against female family members, the colourful Italian's darker side can no longer be ignored.https://t.co/pr1LWFt52g pic.twitter.com/lMHNVnmu8O
— CyclingTips (@cyclingtips) March 12, 2019
Like most American cycling fans, I was simultaneously in awe of Cipollini's results on the bike and entertained by his unctuous antics in a laughing-at-him-and-not-with-him kind of way, hence my incessant references to him.  Of course, Cipollini already stopped seeming funny to me back in May of 2017, when I saw him in person and realized he wasn't a cartoon:
But now that I know who he really is it's officially the end of an era. I guess if you write a bike blog long enough you'll eventually see all your memes become unfunny:
Though maybe it just I who have become unfunny:
Hey, I may not be able to amuse you with my words, but at least my physique is always good for a guffaw. By the way, I'm not sure what to make of the fact that the CyclingTips story didn't mention Cipollini's Rock Racing days:
In retrospect it was fairly obvious he was morally bankrupt. Speaking of Eroica California (that's where that unfortunate photo of me was taken), I continue to use it as an excuse to fuck off and ride my bike in the middle of the day, and today I headed out astride the Renovo:
In recent weeks I've been alternating between bikes made of steel, "stainless" steel, and crabon, and I must confess that, even with Gatorskins and a cheap pair of wheels, the Renovo does have a preternaturally smooth ride quality that I can only attribute to one thing:
At the same time, the bike is still creaking--not a lot, but it's there.  Having swapped wheels, snugged everything up, installed a new cassette, and so forth, at this point it's hard not to blame the frame:
Also, on various parts of the frame there are these cloudy spots that look like unbuffed wax:
I have occasionally rubbed the bike down with rags soiled by lubricants and solvents of unknown provenance [insert "rubbing my wood with soiled rags" joke here], so maybe that's what's going on, but about a year and a half in the Renovo has become that exquisite chest of drawers that is all dinged up and liable to collapse at any moment, but you'll be damned if you're gonna get rid of it because it's an heirloom and also who wants to spend half the day putting together a new one from Ikea anyway? Also, early in the ride, I was getting a persistent knocking sound while out of the saddle.  I decided to ignore it, only to eventually discover that my tool roll had spontaneously ejected itself and the sound I'd been hearing was the toe strap buckle knocking against the seatmast.  By this point, I was basically here:
Which is roughly three miles from my home.  The tool roll could have fallen off anywhere, but I couldn't in good conscience abandon it, since it contained the following invaluable items: --An inner tube --Tire levers --A patch kit --A chain tool --A multitool (I think?) --The combination pedal wrench/coupler opener for my travel bike --One of those round spoke wrenches that fits lots of different nipple sizes --A little wrench that fits these theft-proof skewers I wasn't using (If you're wondering why I was carrying so much random crap it's because I'd taken it off my travel bike and hadn't bothered to edit the contents.) As you can see, between the contents and the tool roll itself that was like $100 worth of crap, and so I had no choice but to look for it.  So I backtracked, and after about a mile and a half I finally found it on Broadway where it had clearly been run over by a truck:
It's got a few holes in it now but everything appears to have more or less survived.  And with that I stuffed it in my jersey pocket and continued on my way. from Bike Snob NYC https://ift.tt/2O1kQ0q

Curve Cycling’s titanium bikes will make you go weak at the knees
Like Curve’s other framesets, the Belgie Air is initially constructed in China from titanium, but the carbon seatpost/mast is constructed in Melbourne, Australia by carbon and titanium specialists Bastion Cycles, which is headed up by three engineers formerly of motoring giant Toyota.
The seatmast uses Bastion’s signature carbon weave, which is showcased using a clear lacquer and complements the raw titanium finish. The carbon is bonded to the frame using aerospace grade epoxy resin, specifically developed for bonding metals to carbon fibre composites.

60cm:Merlin Cordite SL review
At the time of writing, the Cordite SL is reduced on merlincycles.com from £1,499 / $1,648.90 / AU$2,285.98 to the frankly ridiculous price of £999.95 / $1,099.94 / AU$1,524.92.
The secret behind this particular trick is that Merlin is using an old frame design from Ridley — specifically the Belgian firm’s 2008 Helium model — as the basis for the Cordite SL.
Best road bikes 2019: how to choose the right one for you
Best road bikes under £1,000
Back in 2008, the Helium was Ridley’s lightest frameset, weighing in at a claimed 900g for the medium-sized chassis. The equivalently sized Cordite SL frame is constructed by Ridley but weighs 1,200g, plus a further 380g for the carbon fork.
Some of the features hark back to the time when this Helium design was in its prime, the integrated seatmast being chief among them. Although popular with racers for the stiffness and weight savings they offered, seatmasts like this can be unforgiving (and a pain when it comes to packing your bike for overseas travel). Other features that date the design are the frame’s giant circular tubes (no aero profiling here) and the lack of internal cable routing.
There’s limited height adjustment offered by the seatmast’s cap (so cutting the seatmast to the correct length is essential), but the frame’s 175mm head tube makes it fairly easy to get a position that strikes a good balance between being racy and relaxed.

Stick Around Long Enough And The Trends Will Come Back Around And Thwack You In The Back Of The Head
In my most recent Outside column I pointed out that you can make your road bike safer by raising your bars and reducing your reach, and in response a commenter had this to say: Anonymous said... "You don’t have to drop the drops, but you should bring them higher up and farther back. Not only will this improve your stability, but it will also keep you from pulling a Superman should you manage to go down anyway." WTF? What bike expert other than you and "self-proclaimed guru" Grant Petersen would make this claim? I hate to break this to you O'Mighty Snob, but putting more of the rider's weight on the rear wheel by moving the handlebars higher up and farther back simply does NOT improve stability. January 10, 2019 at 10:38 AM Really? Get on your road bike, head to the nearest section of rough road (cobblestones if you have them), and tell me where you put your hands and how shift your body weight. Yeah, I thought so. By the way (and I shouldn't have to point this out) I'm not saying everyone should ride a Petersen-esque road bike, I'm just saying that there are plenty of people who might be better off on one and don't realize it and/or are in denial. In other news, you are probably familiar with Speedvagen, but in case you're not here you go:
Look closely: every curve and line of the Speedvagen frame is designed to look and work perfectly together. The headtube, for example, is shaped perfectly to pair with the lines of the Enve Composites fork, smoothly transitioning from frame to headset to fork crown. The tubing of the frame is robust at the front of the frame and is smaller toward the seatmast, to smooth out any roughness from the road that's transmitted up to the saddle and the rider. The seat stays hug the wheel tapering flat and wide for a smooth ride and creating a beautiful silhouette from behind. Frame-to-component interfaces are mated with stainless reinforcement in high-wear areas—their curvatures smoothly blending between the tubes they attach. If you're the type to wear Rapha you just soiled yours after reading that. Anyway, when it comes to the zeitgeist, Speedvagen are very much in touch with it.  For example, they've been selling designer pit boots since at least 2010, and look at cyclocross now:
So basically, if Speedvagen gets involved, you know it's going to be a "thing." Given this, it's pretty safe to say that at this point skating is going to be the new gravel, because now there's a Speedvagen skateboard deck:
Surprise! For some reason there’s a natural progression from skateboarding into bikes. Our shop is no exception to that, with a few of us spending a majority of formative years skating. While most of us now use bikes to chase those moments of feeling truly free, we figured it would be fun to honor that past life and get out there a little bit more on these.  It's called the "Surprise Me" deck, and I was indeed surprised since it's only $50.  After all, this is the same company that sells a $3,500 coaster brake bike:
So, having recently sprained my foot while playing on a board with wheels, it's simultaneously embarrassing and comforting to know that I'm following the middle-aged bike dork script to the letter.  It's also safe to say you can expect the masters fields in 2019 to be quite thin since everyone's going to be sidelined with skateboarding injuries. Actually, maybe that's Speedvagen's plan.  And if tricking cyclists into hurting themselves is what they're trying to do then I take full credit for giving them the idea. Finally, speaking of doing tricks on stuff with wheels, I found myself wondering if fixed-gear freestyling is still a thing and apparently it is:
youtube
As far as I can tell the only new trick they've added in the past 10 years is bunnyhopping the homeless:
Otherwise it's still mostly just spinning around on your back wheel:
You're now completely caught up. And now if you'll excuse me I'm going to convert my skateboard into a fixie by putting some Krazy Glue in the bearings. from Bike Snob NYC http://bit.ly/2FnyPfw
