No one was sure if they’d win the battle and Brandon would have never imagined that he’d be fighting the dead with a Targaryen. But he trusted his niece and nephew’s judgement. They’d all been through a lot and this was the time to set aside the past and come together. Stark, Targaryen, Arryn fighting with the remains of Lannister and Greyjoy houses. It was nearly all the Seven Kingdoms. Well, Brandon thought, until the state of Great Houses gets decided on if we survive this, we’ve the five Kingdoms at war. Brandon had tried to wrap his head around the state of how many noble and great houses had fallen or nearly succumbed to being extinct in the short years since Roberts regin had given a fair amount of peace. But it hardly seemed to matter now that they stood with allies no one could have forseen, aside from Bran perhaps.

Brandon passed by Tormund, giving the free folk man a nod and handed him his wine skin as he kept moving. The battle was soon to start and he at least wanted a clear head.  During the battle though, Brandon had watched men fall and he himself nearly died multiple times, just barely fending one of them off as they retreated back into the walls of Winterfell. As the army of the dead climbed the walls it was Brandon that was pulled down at one point and had it not been for the dead bodies he was falling and tumbling down upon he might have died from the drop itself.

He scrambled to his feet, dragon fire raining down from the sky and screams from all around him were heard in the distance, but it was Jon and Dany that caught his attention and he rushed for them but it’s hard to see with the snow in his face and he can’t quite make out where they are on the battlefeild as he slashes into the dead, for a moment he finds himself overrun by them and he heard dragon fire, a lot of it. Brandon uses what  strength he has left to shake the dead off him and be free of them.

He wipes the blood away from his eyes as he staggers forward having seen Drogon fly away. And his attention in turned from the Queen to his nephew as he sees the Night King in the distance, just clear enough to see his raise his arms and the allies that had littered the field rising to his command.

It feels like hours he’s been fighting. Fighting to stay alive to not come back as one of the dead. But than it’s over. He’s somehow made it near where Daenerys was having lost sight of Jon through the fighting and snowstorm and he watches as Ser Jorah and she are overwhelmed. For a moment the Wild Wolf is impressed at the Queen’s use of a sword, but the moment is gone as Jorah falls to his knees. The dead too seem to crumble around him. Someone has killed the Night King.

Brandon surges forward to Daenerys as she grieves over the body and for a moment Brandon is ready to strike at the Mormont should he rise again, his arm tensed for the strike but it’s never needed. Instead he sheaths his sword and places his large hand on the her small frame and kneels down beside her. He had once called for her brothers head, he’d been put on trial just as Jamie had been but for a far briefer amount of time due to his family. He had made it clear to the Dragon Queen he wanted the North to remain independent but at least Daenerys risked her life, her dragons lives to end this war. Cersei had stayed and hide like a coward amassing an army no doubt now would outnumber what was left of theirs. But he’d rather follow and deal with Daenerys than Cersei if those were his only options.

“Come, Daenerys.”

Brandon spoke softly not wanting to spook her. “ Tolvys morghūlis” It was horrible to think of the losses and who had died, Brandon prayed to the Old Gods that Jorah would be alright, that he had done good in his life, and silently thanked the man for his duty to the living. “Aōha Issarossa jorrāelagon ao” Brandon spoke.

His Valyrian not as strong as he had liked but being raised as a noble and spending some time in exile in Essos had made him pick it up before he heard word of his brothers death and came back to the hell that had become Westeros. He hoped Daenerys would listen and leave the old mans body for the time being, and he mainly wanted to get away from the Dragon that now hovered over them making the Stark wary of the large beast, no matter if he’d been integral to the win of the battle he still didn’t trust the dragon.
