In 5x18, Eddie and Buck patch up the walls that Eddie had previously torn down. Eddie tells Buck "you're the guy who likes to fix things".

By 6x17, Eddie is at the hardware store with Bobby, specifically Bobby, and not Buck, discussing healing and being able to "fix" the broken parts of you (moving forward through grief for a loved one). And he goes on to meets Marisol in said store, and throughout season 7 attempts again to fix this perceived broken part of himself through her.

Significantly, Buck isn't there at the hardware store with Eddie. Even though Buck is always just randomly around Eddie in most of his scenes out of work, even though Buck has already worked on school projects with Chris this season. Buck is separated from this conversation; Eddie doesn't see him as a replacement for Shannon in this way. Eddie doesn't see the space that Buck holds in his heart as a place to be fixed or examined.

But by 7x10, we round back to Buck, there to help Eddie fix things. Marisol was not who Eddie needed and Eddie stumbled when faced with an opportunity to try and fix his own past mistakes, and Buck is there to do "what you always do".

Throughout season 7 Buck and Eddie simply CANNOT separate each other from their romantic lives and their journeys are so massively intertwined, often the only consistency within their messiness, and they keep accidentally colliding with each other at every corner. Wherever they turn, the other is there, ready to try for the other one.

because he has everything that makes life living to him. warmth. good food. intercourse. orgasms. he got all of that fulfilled within a very short time. it all came right back to him—almost like he manifested it in the gravy bowl.

so, with such core foundations being challenged, with such core foundations failing him, what ground is there left to stand on? he’s stepping out into thin air, into the complete unknown. and that is an extremely frightening thing. that is a reason to panic indeed.

I know there have been so many binary brothers fics taking place after the LaRusso Christmas party to try to smooth over the issues with the writing in regards to Hawk finally switching sides, but it just hit me that they didn’t need a right after scene, they needed a before scene.

Like, picture last day of school before Christmas break, Demetri leaves a gift in Eli’s locker (he obviously knows his combination). I imagine it’s something small but, like, a tradition. Like, maybe they always give each other a new miniature or a Lego figurine, or whatever. Doesn’t really matter outside of symbolism and Hawk knowing it’s from Demetri.

Anyway, it’d piss Hawk off so he’d hunt Demetri down somewhere alone to confront him.

And basically imagine Demetri saying he’d gotten the gift a long time ago, and he doesn’t want to keep it. He figured this would be his closure to their friendship being over. Because despite the fact that he doesn’t want it to be, it obviously is.

And there’s a whole ass argument that they’d need to have, but I figure the whole thing would end with Eli having pointed out that Demetri was a dick to him, too, and Demetri not really taking responsibility for that because Eli was in a literal cult.

But just as Demetri’s walking away, I’d have him pause and then turn around.

“Look, if I wasn’t supportive enough or whatever, I’m sorry. This isn’t what I wanted. I’m sorry for embarrassing you and everything else. I’m sorry for all of it.”

And Hawk would just be stone faced and looking in the other direction, so Demetri would sigh and walk away.

But then later at the fight when he says those same words back, suddenly they have a lot more weight and it makes sense that Eli would run to Demetri’s defense.

And what if Aziraphale pushes Crowley away every time

And what if it all leads to a scene of Aziraphale initiating the close call with CROWLEY pushing HIM away instead?

Imagine this scenario: Jayce thinks he needs to kill Viktor to prevent a tragedy caused by Viktor changed into an emotionless villain robot who looks down on humanity. He goes to where the members of the cult/commune live with a hammer just like in the show and just like in the show Viktor invites him in without even caring whether he has a hextech weapon. Jayce is fully set on killing him, his hand closes on the hammer but then he sees Viktor and hesitates. Viktor was even more beautiful than before, his face still fully human not hidden behind the mask, his eyes fully human. Expressive emotions visible on his face and in his eyes.  He's so, so much different from the machine Viktor from the future that Jayce has seen.  That one was cold, this one before him is happy, excited that he can see Jayce and share his knowledge and dream with him. But Jayce knows he has to kill him, his hand on a hammer again… yet he still can't force himself to do it. Viktor greets him, and Jayce can't respond. How can someone like Vik before his eyes change into the Machine Herald? How does someone like that who still cares about humanity (maybe Jayce has seen Vander) change like that?? And then he slowly realizes… what if he never changed? What if it was a self-fulfilling prophecy? His eyes widen and he remembers all that he knows about the hexcore and arcane he recalls that the hexcore is learning and adapting, evolving really, and that it can revive itself… Of course, since it's constantly adapting it must mean that after reviving it would want to eliminate what caused its destruction… emotion and humanity. After all they were the reason why Viktor allowed himself to be vulnerable near Jayce. It is trust that makes him so easy to approach and attack... and kill. He starts to think that perhaps he did murder Viktor in the previous timeline and this event was what caused the hexcore to change in the way that allowed for the tragedy to happen and for Viktor to become a villain… Jayce decides not to kill him ever again, instead, he tells him what he saw and talks to him which in the end results in them teaming up to find a different way to destroy the hexcore while not killing all the people already healed by it… Or something like that.

Do you think buddie was meant to go canon in S4, how do you think they would have done it?

I fully believe that buddie was intended to go canon in early s5 after eddie was shot. there was so much surrounding buck’s reaction to eddie being shot, eddie only focusing on making sure buck wasn’t also hurt, buck breaking down in front of chris, the discussion of the will…. they set up those building blocks to showcase that there was something deeper there with buck and eddie and then……. season 5 happened bc KR took over (FOX also had to do with the decision as well but…) but i think Tim was trying to intentionally write them into a corner but was moved to LS before he could ever get there himself.

I think s5 would have started out with eddie having the same realizations about not wanting to be with ana, and that it would lead to him reexamining his feelings for buck when buck would have been the one to comfort him through it. I think this version of s5 taylor would have noticed buck’s dedication to eddie and had a heary to heart with him about how he needs to be true to himself, and we would have gotten buck accepting his feelings (i also hc that in this timeline, buck knew he was bi already he just never felt the need to bring it up) and he and taylor would part ways as friends (taylor wouldn’t fuck everything up in this universe either) and buck would want ti confront his feelings, but before he got the chance to, eddie would leave the 118. buck would view this as eddie leaving him behind and not face the music. they would follow a similar path of canon s5 leading up to the big PTSD breakdown in 5x13 where buck would go to eddie’s when chris called. we would see buck immediately fall into place to take care of eddie (just like in canon) and it would lead to plenty of moments where they are just on the edge of something but never cross the line. they continue to dance around each other; buck saying he wants to give eddie some time to breath post-breakdown, eddie saying he doesn’t want buck to rush into a relationship after taylor (obviously not knowing the bereakup was bc of his feelings for eddie) and then finally in 5x18 while eddie and may are having their simultaneous arcs of what comes next, they would have a heart to heart where may would tell eddie he needs to stop waiting around and go after what makes him happy— this would lead to an emotional confession scene at hen and karen’s vow renewal where eddie would tell buck exactly how he feels, and buck, in lieu of a reply, kisses eddie and that would be how s5 ended, ushering buddie canon in s6 where we see them stumble, the whole wack-ass donor plotline would go away bc eddie would be there to talk some sense into buck, eddie would tell the buckley parents to fuck off, buck would still get struck by lightning and eddie would grapple with the idea of losing someone else (to give that shannon angst another stroke), we still get the poker date where it’s still a fluffy buddie moment, buck would continue recovering but he and eddie would grow distant bc buck would have similar post-lightning strike stress about not knowing what to feel, and eddie sould be repressing his emotions about it— lead to some angst with natalia flirting w buck, buck being flattered at someone not treating him like a living corpse, eddie getting pissed st this woman for thinking buck’s death is “cool” and thinking that buck might leave him for natalia, they have a mini (VERY mini) devorce era 2.0 that would get resolved during the freeway collapse and s6 would end with a bathena parallel of them getting secret married. then s7 would have been completely different bc we would have no racist man, no weird nun storyline, no doppelgänger bullshit, etc. We would get some secretly married buddie, possibly some more discussions of catholic guilt bc eddie doesn’t know if he’s ready to come out to his parents yet, eddie would come out to them and they would react badly, and s7 would end w ramon and helena starting a custody battle w buck and eddie over christopher.

yes i basically just rewrote the entirety of s5-7 but we deserved better than what we got from each of those seasons so 🤷🤷 if the creators won’t fo it themselves, someone has to.

Fic Summary: Eddie feels completely alone, he isolates himself and the weight of it causes him to slip into a deep depression. Once he accepts the fact that he’ll die alone, he has a decision to make regarding his life. Buck finally gets clarity about his relationship status and once he does, realization sets in and he becomes frustrated that he didn’t see it coming. Will they finally figure out they’re each other’s person before it’s too late?

Eddie uses his napkin to wipe his mouth and after he takes another sip of his coffee, he says, “Buck, I’m going to be honest with you and explain that this is not going to be easy because my mom is controlling and when she wants something, she nags and belittles people… including family members until she gets it. She tries everything to undermine the other person and the things she says will hurt. I said all of that to say… this fight to get Chris won’t be easy and if she proceeds with a custody battle it’s going to be bad.”

Buck doesn’t break eye contact with him because he’ll do whatever it takes to help Eddie get his son back. He knows Eddie’s a great dad because he’s witnessed it with his own two eyes and he knows how much Eddie loves his son.

“When I changed my will, I should have told you about it but I didn’t and there’s a reason but I’m not in a good enough headspace to get into that yet. Once this stuff with Chris is resolved and I’ve unpacked it all in therapy, we’ll discuss it but me naming you to be his legal guardian was the best decision I’ve ever made. It wasn’t fair for me not to tell you about it and for that I apologize but it’s like I said before, I know you’ll fight for him the same way I do and that’s what I want for him. This custody battle will be ruthless and we both saw what Hen and Mara went through to get their foster license back but this is different. Things are likely to get very messy really fast and I want you to know that I understand if you don’t want to go with me. So, before we leave here to go to the airport…” He trails off when Buck starts talking.

“Eddie?”

“I’m serious, Buck. I understand and I’ll pay for your airfare, so you won’t have to worry.”

How will Buck respond to Eddie's offer to pay for his airfare so he won't have to go to El Paso? 👀

Chapter Summaries

Chapter 1 - Eddie’s avoiding conversations with everyone at the 118 to prevent having to talk about how lonely he feels. On the other hand, Buck excitedly prepares to spend a romantic weekend with his boyfriend only to learn something he should already know.

Chapter 2 - Eddie appears to be happy whenever he’s at work but the truth is he’s masking his high-functioning depression with smiles and laughter. After another call with Chris, he falls deeper into depression and for the second time since he’s been living in L.A., he considers risking it all because he has nothing to lose. Since Buck’s got clarity on his non-existent romantic relationship, his fear of being left behind resurfaces and it causes him to spiral and he thinks he’s lost everything. In his search for answers to his relationship problems, he starts asking the questions he should have asked years ago.

Chapter 3 - Both Buck and Eddie experience déjà vu numerous times over the course of three days and during those encounters, Buck’s reminded of his own definition of love while defining moments from Eddie’s past resurface and he finally forces himself to confront them.

Chapter 4 - As Eddie hits rock bottom, he has a difficult time trying to pull himself back up and Buck does what he always does, he never gives up.

Chapter 5 - Buck’s inside Eddie’s home and he’s standing right in front of him explaining he’s here to help. Eddie’s happy to see him and he’s finally ready to make several confessions about the things that have been happening and the way he’s been feeling.

Chapter 6 - As Buck and Eddie prepare to leave Los Angeles for El Paso, Eddie initiates another conversation with Buck regarding his will and before it ends, they’ll outline a parenting and legal guardianship plan that will prove they’ve been coparenting Chris for the last 7 years and the way they’ve been doing it is in Chris’ best interest.
