This is why he is the best of the best. The record holder. Being mentored by the legendary Captain Johnathan Price. 

But his experiences and planning never prepared him for this question.

“... What is that bulge in your pants Kyle?”

Shit.

“You want to propose to her?” Price cocked an eyebrow, surprise evident on his face. 

Gaz nodded his head, shyly. “I thought it’s about time..” Looking down at his cup of tea. “I just want a bit of an opinion on how you guys did it..”

“Well, that I can give you a bit of advice on. First you need to get a ring…��� “Soap. You blurted your proposal out of the blue. You didn’t even have a ring picked out. You didn’t even plan for anything.” Simon interjected. 

Soap shot Simon a look. “But it still got the job done, right?” 

“Can’t argue with that.” Simon grumbled. 

“Yours isn’t that much better.” Soap countered. “All you did was slam the ring box on the table and asked my sister to marry you.”

“Got the job done, right?” Throwing Soap’s argument right back at him, Simon smirked. 

Shaking his head, not getting any help from his two teammates, he turned towards his captain. 

Before he could open his mouth and ask, he heard a voice chiming in. 

“Don’t bother asking him. He wasn’t any better than Sergeant Soap.”  Chameleon laughed, moving from the door towards Price’s desk, she put his cup of tea down onto his desk. 

“Thanks love.” Price grumbled, “At least I had a ring picked out.” 

“That you did.” She leaned down and gave her husband a kiss on the head before turning back to Gaz. 

“Last I heard she had been wanting to go to the beach.” she hinted. “She always says you do the best picnic dates. So,” pointing to Gaz, “don’t screw this up.”

Your eyes brightened up when Gaz suggested a weekend getaway and picnic by the seaside. 

“I haven’t been to the beach in a few years!” you smiled, “We used to spend a few days there, after the mountain camping trip, where I met you.” you noted shyly. “But I haven't been there much since I moved away from home to study, and started working.. OH I am so excited!”

And now his plan has fallen apart. Running through plan A to Z. Nothing in those scenarios helps to answer the question you just asked him.

“Um.” He flustered. Think of something Kyle. THINK. “Just rubbish I found on the beach.” 

Pointing towards the bin a few metres away, “The rubbish bin is over there.” 

“Uh, it’s recyclable. Don’t want to throw it into general waste.” You pointed towards the bin right beside it, “Recycle bin is over there.” 

Fuck. That didn’t work. “ uh, It was an interesting shape of rubbish, I want to take it home and put it on my shelf.” He knew it was a bad idea to keep the ring box in his pants. But he didn’t want to leave it in the car or in the picnic basket where you can accidentally spot it or some random stranger or possible thieves to steal it. So the best option? Keeping it in his pocket while the two of you stroll down the beach.

“Kyle, you need to tidy up your study, you have too many things that you need to put away in there!!” you quipped.  “Come on, show me what it is. I want to see how interesting it is..” your hand reaches for his pocket, ready to take out the box he is hiding in there.

‘No. Nonono. No. Um. NO.” he grabbed your hand with a fast reflex, stopping you before you could reach it. 

“Kyle Garrick, what are you hiding from me?” your lips turn down into a frown. “You've been acting all strange for the last few weeks after you suggested the trip.” looking down at the ground, you started to kick sand around,“ you didn’t want to go swim in the sea, or even go near the water.” you looked back up into his eyes, eyes glittering with tears, “did you change your mind? Something is bothering you?” Did you change your mind about us? The hidden undertone and disappointment is evident within your voice.

His mouth went dry with the strong salty sea breeze blowing past, carrying a whiff of your citrus perfume that you love so much and the slight coconut scent sunscreen you insisted on applying.

“Don’t think you are in the UK and you won’t get sunburnt.” You chidded and started blabbering about facts on skin cancer etc as you smear on layers and layers of sunscreen onto his body. 

Now that sunscreen is making his hand sticky and slippery as he sweats with nervousness. Making him look more guilty. He couldn’t really explain to you he was scared to go into water before so his pants wouldn’t get wet and make the ring box more evident, or in that slim possible chance that the ring get washed away and disappear into the sea???

Taking a big gulp, he whispered,“Well, technically I am hiding something from you..” 

You look like you were about to burst into tears, he hastily kneeled down on one knee.

Plans be damned. For once in his life he will just wing it. 

“I.. I had all these things planned out.” he took a deep breath as he launch into his impromptu speech, “step by step, down to the tiniest details.” he did a nervous chuckle as you clench his hand tight, “ But, like the previous two times, you came crashing into my life,throwing me off unexpectedly,  giving me surprises after surprises.” he can feel himself trembling as he takes out the box from the pocket, where he has been hiding the ring.

“My darling, my first and only love. The beautiful girl with innocent eyes and the sweetest temper who had captured my heart.” You gasped out loud as you realise what is he about to do.

“I have been in love with you since the first time we ever met as a child. Right under that lemon tree.” his voice wavering, trying hard not to break down with high emotion.

“You have always been in the back of my mind. All those years. And I am so glad fate gave us another chance. Finding each other again. Although I failed to recognise you at first at our second meeting,” letting out a small chuckle.

“Can I be that lucky person, to spend the rest of my life with you? To be that person you see when you open your eyes first thing in the morning, and for you to give me goodnight kisses before I go to sleep at night, to remind me how fortunate and thankful that I have you. My forever love."

You couldn’t even let out a coherent response, just nodding your head furiously as you throw yourself at Kyle, arms around him tight as you start to cry, with happiness.

Both of you sank down into the sandy beach, with Gaz in relief everything worked out at the end, and with you finally find out why he is acting all weird for weeks.

And all of sudden both of you hear people clapping and whistling, shouting out congratulating words.

You buried your face into his neck, in embarrassment. 

“Oh gosh…”

“Oh dear.. Didn’t expect to have audiences gathering…” Gaz chuckled nervously. “Sorry, that was not part of my plan either..”

You let out a little sobbing laugh, “Always a planner.” ‘

“I sure am. But it didn't quite work out this time round.” pulling away from you slightly, he moved his hand to cup your face, “but I am glad it all worked out at the end. I love you, my darling.Thank you for everything.”

“I love you too Kyle.” Leaning into his forehead. “Now we have the rest of our lives to look forward to.” 

“So,I heard you had to wing it at the end aye?”

“Shut up Soap. At least I did have plans beforehand. It half worked.”

“Sure. Whatever you say…”

Hey everyone! It's a great day to share one of my earlier builds, Sandy Shores Beach, which I originally created for a small world that I typically prefer for gameplay. Initially placed on a smaller lot, I decided to move it instead to Sunset Valley and placed it at the Recurve Stand lot.

This beach lot features an outdoor bar with tables overlooking the beach, perfect for romantic dates, as well as picnic tables with barbecue grills for Sims who enjoy cooking their own food.

Additionally, there are outdoor chess tables for entertainment, picnic blankets to get away from the crowd, lounges and a sandbox for children to play in. There's plenty of space for activities like ball games, tag or just running around.

I have checked the empty or existing beach lots with other worlds I currently have and it can fit in Twinbrook (42x52) and Appaloosa Plains (40x55) though you may need to use the Soften Terrain tool to smooth it out a bit for easier Sim navigation.

📣Please be aware that there are spawners used on this lot thus I would advise to not rotate the Beach Lot to avoid duplicate spawners and remove spawners when the lot is deleted due to them remaining on the empty lot. To check and remove spawners, enable “testingcheatsenabled true” and “buydebug on” after.

I've also included Public Picnic Spots, which will appear when using the same cheat codes mentioned above. Feel free to use the dropper tool to copy and place more picnic spots on the lot.

📣Please also note the required expansions pack listed in the Lot Details above especially those that uses the build items such as floors, columns and wallpaper, the lot would not show up in your game if you don't have those unfortunately. For the rest ,they are mostly décor which will automatically be replaced in your game.

finnick odair prefers modest and simple dates. 

one of finnick’s favorite dates is when he invites you over for dinner at his place. he puts on an emerald green apron that makes his eyes pop and begins preparing dinner. as he focuses completely on cooking, a slight frown forms on his face. he smooths it away and rubs his brows once he realizes his unconscious expression. it’s a miracle he hasn’t accidentally cut himself, as his mind wanders and he imagines the pretty outfit you will be wearing that night while he chops the vegetables.

saying finnick always has everything under control might be a bit of a stretch. after years of being together, finnick has perfected the art of dinner dates. however, there have been several mishaps along the way. once, time flew by, and by the time you knocked on his door all dressed up and excited to see him, he was still in his apron and his lazy-day shorts, having not yet showered. on another occasion, he managed to burn the steak he had spent hours preparing and had to beg mags to please bring some of her delicious leftovers. unfortunately, you arrived at finnick’s place just as mags did. and better yet, there was the time he completely misunderstood a recipe. the cookbook he borrowed from mags was so old, and the words were so blurry he accidentally used vinegar instead of vanilla. the look of mortification on his face when you nearly gagged after the first time is something you’ll never forget.

his heart leaps at the sight of you standing at his doorstep in a pretty sundress. as a true gentleman, he doesn’t waste a minute before inviting you in, giving you a quick yet adoring kiss before guiding you to the kitchen. there, he presents the warm, delectable meal that would be delighting your taste buds that night. the endless conversations flow and drive the night as his hand caresses yours, his gaze never leaving yours. he considers the night a success when he hears your delighted hums after taking your first bite. after chatting the night away, he lends you some of his clothes and cuddles you to sleep.

nonetheless, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t pamper you. finnick loves to take you out as well. he takes you to cozy seaside restaurants, where he’s on friendly terms with the owners and can ask for a table with the nicest views. the breathtaking beach and his tender sea-green eyes are two sights you will never grow tired of.

finnick never misses a chance to take you to the annual district four fair. he watches with a warm smile as little kids run around, laughing and shouting with joy at the fun, and maybe tricked, fair games. he also loves picnics with you. his eyes crinkle with pure happiness when he sees you carrying the picnic basket. in the days leading up to your picnic date, he goes to the market to pick out little snacks and fruits to surprise you with. however, his favorite dates are when you both get together at your place to prepare the snacks and meals for your picnic in the park. 

finnick has never sneaked you into the capitol for a date at its fancy restaurants or exotic museums. the capitol is a part of the world he prays you’ll never have to find yourself in, and he does everything in his power for them to never know of the existence of you.

Kunigami wasn't a red flag type of guy AT ALL! I think he was the definition of the walking green flag. He walks so the rest of Blue Lock can run (fr). His first green flag would be:

His way to start the relationship. I think he would be the guy that would do the cliche date just to confess. He would set a date at the beach. An (unofficial) picnic date on the beach, watching the sunset, walking along the seaside, and hand in hand y'know, that type of date. At the end of the day, he would just hold your hand and told you how much he loves you, how long he's been in love with you. (You'd cried btw 😞)

After you both are official, he will continue showing love, he know what he has to do and whatnot. He will literally do as you said, if you said 'no pda' then no it is but if you wanna be extra clingy then he'll let you. He is like a puppy (to you only 😋). He is best at his words. Just know what to say to make you feel better on your bad/red days etc.

His love language is WORDS OF AFFIRMATIONS EVERYBODY!!!! *massive applause* AND PSYCHICAL TOUCH!!! I just know he'll give you the best warm hug and then pat your back on a soothing manner and then give you a sweet words of comfort and lul you to sleep sometimes.

Kunigami is a man of his words. If he said tomorrow you both are going on a date even A LAST MINUTE morning practice can't stop this guy. He'll ditched the world to keep his promises with you.

He is neat ok ok ok. Not like Barou but he's a clean person. Well organized and tidy. There would be a time where he would just slump on you after practices but that rarely happened. Once in two months???? He loves helping you straighten up, you two even had a routine and time which do this job for the day.

Oh and he loves cuddling! Doesn't matter in bed, on the couch, outside, at school or anywhere he loves cuddle! He would just sit by your side arms entangling and head in between your neck and shoulder.

Okay I did say he was a walking green flag but he has his red flag too, Okay it wasn't obvious and damaging but it's still a red flag ok. Only one!

Insensitivity. This man is blurred, dumb, curious, and confused 24/7! You can sit at a table with friends, guys, and girls. Girls can surround him, flirting and giving him smooth pick-up lines but this man would just look in between them and nodded. It was not like he was paying attention or anything but he can't say no! He was not enjoying it NO! But he doesn't know what to do! The boy is confused all the time, sometimes you have to do the work and get him out of awkward situations. And he would still just look at you starting dumbly and goes like 'What happened?' He's like a puppy but with a little time it irks you! Not really but you are kind of pissed off at his confuse demeanor

But he makes it up, by saying sorry and lets you explain to him what to do when he's ever in that situation again! Of course, he should speed up and run.

Lastly, The relationship is still going strong, and sometimes it even crossed his mind to marry you someday. Seeing you walking down the aisle with a a stunning white dress with flowers in hand and him waiting for you with his black tuxedo. Kissing to wrap up the beautiful moment. He can only smile and wait until he got a permanent job to buy you a diamond ring ( you always told him to make you a paper ring only! You loved it!!' and propose and live happily with you!!!! The end.

It was supposed to sound angrier. But he could hear himself, as he sank back down into the chair. Not healed at all, falling back into the trap as his fingers poked through the spirals in the phone cord.

“I was wondering if you were awake.”

He narrowed his eyes down at the courtyard. Fancy rich ladies in their fucking boating outfits. Fancy cocktails. Probably mimosas or something. He wanted to hang up on Armand to call room service back. He ashed his cigarette on the side of his plate, next to his unfinished food. Wondered where he left his sunglasses. 

“Don’t fuck me around, you probably knew I was awake,” he mumbled. 

There was a pause, as Daniel’s stomach twisted again. He wondered if Armand could still… hear him, through the phone. Through the ether of the cables. Even if not, maybe he was close by. Listening in on him. 

“I see,” he said. Daniel heard him moving. A window closing, maybe, and the city noises in the background settled down. Armand never made noise. Moved like a cat. If he was moving the phone, placing it on a different surface, Daniel wouldn’t hear it. But he heard nails a moment later, clicking on a tabletop. All the effort to avoid the memory, to banish the image of Armand’s face, crumbled in a rush. Collapsed around him as he listened to the click… click click… click click click. He could see them, the glassiness of them, and for a moment the idea was perfectly clear. He imagined Armand, one leg crossed over the other, relaxed, tapping his nails on a heavy wood table. 

“What do you want?” he asked again. And his voice was so deflated, and he hated the stupid family outside, and their stupid dog, and the stupid picnic they were gonna have on the water. New England seaside bullshit. He wished he knew why the fuck he came here. He scanned for them, not on the dock anymore, but saw their boat pushing off. The dog yapped like an annoying little shit and the kid looked like a dumbass with their oversized life jacket. 

“I miss you.”

“Hah,” Daniel dug his heel into the carpet and tipped his chair on its back legs, rocking back and forth. “No you don’t.”

what do d!word girlie and matty do for vacations with the babies? do they go to a little seaside lodge and take mayhem and have a cosy little week away? or is it more of an abroad holiday, matty playing in the pool with the babies? I’m dreaming of their little family on an evening in Spain, girlie with a cocktail, baba asleep in her pushchair, maybe you and matty having a game of pool.

given that the kids come on tour with you even as babies, i think you and matty decide that - for the first little while, at least - staycations in the uk are kinda the move so it feels more like a holiday rather than work, if you get me. the seaside idea is genuinely adorable: a little cottage on the yorkshire coast somewhere, i think, at the beginning of june before the schools let out, so it's quieter but still summery. i see lyla being around eighteen months old, walking and talking-ish and being so good with her brother, who's maybe four months old at this point and giggles every time she talks to him; they spend a lot of their time in the cottage garden on a picnic blanket having little baby convos and generally just being heart-meltingly cute, mayhem lying beside them like he's babysitting lmao. you and matty start out taking turns keeping an eye on them and playing with them or reading a book and sunning yourself, but it quickly devolves into the four of you (and mayhem) all lying on the grass laughing and playing together. you go to the beach as well, which is really fun - lyla sticks one foot in the water and says it's too cold, so she and you go and explore the rock pools to look for starfish, while matty wades ankle-deep into the sea with alex in his arms and makes him laugh by kicking up the water (and he laughs even louder at mayhem splashing around).

you go to the beach in spain with them too, on their first holiday abroad, when alex is just over eighteen months old and lyla is almost three - she's still not too bothered about the sea (she does like that it's warmer though lol), but alex is a proper little water baby, toddling around in the shallows and smiling the whole time. the sea air and the 5 million sandcastles matty builds with them really do tire them out, so the rest of the day for the kids is just siesta, dinner, bed; they're so tired, though, that they fall asleep on matty in the restaurant after they've eaten, bless them, so as soon as you've finished your marg it's time to go back to the villa. which, honestly, could fit about twenty people - you let matty book it (a mistake, but he insisted) and when you saw it you were like "baby. this is a party villa. we're a family of four with two toddlers", and matty was like "and? we can have a party with them lol. and it's all on one floor, so it's easier to keep an eye on the kids". while the babies are asleep in their room, you and matty are in the games room across the hall, playing pool and air hockey (which matty was shocked by your prowess at lol) and table football (which you've both decided you're going to buy for the house back in london). it's a good laugh, and it actually feels a lot like one of your early dates; when you say that to matty, he smiles and says "you're right, sweetheart. it's nice. and it's nice to think back to our first date and compare it to now, the two of us married and on holiday with our kids, but still getting the same butterflies we did back then. don't think i'll ever stop getting butterflies from you, darling, and i don't want to" <3

The Perfect Date (Male reader x Kang Seulgi)

The morning sun cast a warm, golden glow over the picturesque coastal town as Y/N stood at the entrance of the seaside cafe. He nervously adjusted his tie, his heart racing in anticipation. Today was a special day, a day he had been planning for months. Seulgi, the love of his life and an adventurous soul, had no idea what awaited her.

As Y/N waited, he couldn't help but think back to how they had met. It had been a chance encounter at a bookstore, where their shared love for literature had sparked a conversation that felt like destiny. Now, eight months later, their connection had grown into something profound.

Just then, he saw her approaching, her radiant smile captivating him as always. Seulgi looked stunning in a summer dress, her eyes shining with excitement.

"Hey there," she greeted with a warm hug. "You look handsome today."

"You look breathtaking," Y/N replied, his voice filled with genuine admiration.

As they sat down for breakfast, their conversation flowed effortlessly, ranging from their favorite books to dreams of travel and adventure. Unbeknownst to Seulgi, Y/N had meticulously planned an unforgettable day that would combine all her passions.

After breakfast, Y/N guided Seulgi to a secluded beach known for its crystal-clear waters and mesmerizing underwater caves. They geared up in wetsuits, ready for an adventure neither would forget. Hand in hand, they entered the cave, their flashlights illuminating the mysterious underwater world.

Seulgi's eyes widened in wonder as they explored the cave, discovering colorful corals, playful fish, and the hidden treasures of the sea. Y/N couldn't help but smile as he watched her, her curiosity and delight infectious.

Hours passed as they swam through the cave's twists and turns, each moment deepening their connection. Finally, they emerged, their hearts pounding not only from the excitement but also from the shared experience that had brought them closer.

As they basked in the sun on the beach, Y/N spread out a picnic he had prepared earlier. Seulgi's eyes sparkled with delight at the sight of her favorite sandwiches and fresh fruit.

"This is amazing, Y/N," she said, taking a bite of the sandwich. "You always know how to make every moment special."

"Well, the day's not over yet," Y/N replied with a mischievous grin.

Seulgi raised an eyebrow, curious about what he had in store. Little did she know, their adventure was far from finished.

Next, Y/N led her to a magnificent yacht anchored just offshore. Seulgi gasped in amazement as they stepped aboard. The deck was adorned with fairy lights, and a table was set for two, complete with fine china and a bottle of her favorite wine.

"Surprise!" Y/N announced, pulling out a chair for her. "Lunch with a view."

Seulgi's eyes shimmered with tears of joy as they enjoyed their meal, the ocean breeze carrying their laughter into the air. They talked about their dreams and the adventures they hoped to share in the future, savoring every moment.

As the day turned to dusk, Y/N steered the yacht toward a secluded spot in the middle of the ocean. Seulgi watched the horizon with a sense of wonder, unaware that this was the beginning of the grand finale he had planned.

They anchored the yacht, and Y/N took Seulgi's hand. "Come with me," he said, leading her to a small rowboat that had been hidden behind the yacht's cabin.

They rowed to a tiny, uninhabited island, a paradise surrounded by crystal-clear waters. As they set foot on the white sand, the sky was painted with hues of pink and orange, signaling the approaching sunset.

Y/N had prepared a picnic dinner, complete with candles and Seulgi's favorite dishes. They sat on a blanket, the gentle lapping of the waves providing the soundtrack to their evening.

Seulgi looked around in awe, her heart filled with love. "Y/N, this is incredible. I've never experienced anything like this."

He gazed into her eyes, his heart pounding with nervous anticipation. "Seulgi, these 3 years with you have been the most magical of my life. You've brought joy, adventure, and love into every moment we've shared."

He reached into his pocket, revealing a small velvet box. Seulgi gasped, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Seulgi," Y/N continued, his voice trembling with emotion, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you, going on countless adventures, and making beautiful memories together. Will you marry me?"

Seulgi's heart soared as she nodded, tears of happiness streaming down her cheeks. Y/N slipped the elegant ring onto her finger, sealing their love with a promise of forever.

As they embraced under the starry sky, the universe seemed to celebrate their love, the waves serenading their joy. It was a night they would remember for the rest of their lives, the beginning of a new chapter in their love story.

And so, on that secluded island, beneath the canvas of stars, Seulgi and Y/N embarked on their journey towards a future filled with love, adventure, and endless possibilities.

The Past will Always catch up to You (so Please come Home)

[A fic I wrote a while back which can be considered compliant to the first/main fic as the main detail that “the two OL MCs are pen pals” is still a thing within this fic (Tumblr, Ao3). You don't necessarily have to read it, but it sets up a groundwork of sorts. The divergent is that this had the OL1 MC paired with Baxter and the main fic is Cove/OL1MC. Can potentially still be within the same narrative as this can be a Baxter was just a summer fling that one summer kind of way and they ended up with Cove later, but can also be seen as Baxter is the Step 4 LI as well. Cove barely appears in this fic so what route/path this narrative is ultimately using is up to interpretation/preference.

{Baxter Ward has always been a chill type of guy. At least he would be if someone from his past wasn't staring daggers into him.}

He’s not sweating because Baxter Alexander Ward would certainly not lose his cool at seeing someone from his mountainous hometown at some random seaside town dab smacked far away enough that it felt almost surreal.

Even if he was, it was most certainly not because said person sitting across him was boring right into his soul while they sipped on their boba tea, which had been sitting mostly full on the picnic table long enough that a small ring puddle had formed. The person drinking it was taking their sweet time, sipping ever so slowly and not breaking their gaze away from him, even as said condensation puddle was growing ever closer to their crossed arms resting on said picnic table.

Thankfully, his sweet summer beau had either not noticed or opted not to mention anything at all. Though he could bet it had more to do with how ecstatic they were instead as they and the person trying to melt you with their eyes were apparently acquainted. And they were in Sunset Bird in person. In fact, that may be too shallow a descriptor of the kind of bond they had. Both of them had been pen pals for years, ever since they were little.

Even before said person trying to murder you with their eyes even moved into that little house in the Cul de Sac in Golden Grove

There’s an uncomfortable but soft cough. Considering the tense silence, it may as well have been a slam on the table.

Ah, right. Baxter’s sweetheart had invited their childhood friend along. Said childhood friend, Cove Holden who Baxter considers may as well equally an attractive heartthrob (who could give Qiu a run for their moneY NO NOPE LET’S NOT GO THERE BRAIN) who looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here right now, and frankly, Baxter couldn’t fault him for that. His sweetheart gently pats Cove on the back and he shoots an appreciative look their way. If Baxter were a possessive type of guy (and he’s most certainly not, thank you very much), he’d be rather jealous of the tight-knit bond between the two.

They were as close as the trio of childhood friends back home aND DAMNIT BRAIN

“The waves must be calling you huh,” The person sitting across Baxter breaks their steel gaze away from him at last, and it turns into a friendly and apologetic type of stare. Baxter couldn’t help but note it’s certainly not as saccharine as one reserved for a Miss Tamarack Baumann. If there was one weakness Baxter could always pinpoint about the person across from him was that they were always soft and forever looking out for the gal. Which was saying something because as far as anyone knew, they held both Tamarack and Qiu on the same level-

Ah.

He really just couldn’t help but think of… Of home after all.

Cove gives them a sheepish smile. “Sorry, it’s not that I didn’t want to be here, and it’s nice to be able to put a face to all those letters!”

“It’s just one of those days where the ocean is calling out to him,” Cove gets gently elbowed by his childhood friend. “Trust me, he wouldn’t be here if he actually wanted to avoid meeting you.”

And despite not knowing Cove for that long, he can vouch for that too. It took some level of observation, but the young man certainly looked more relaxed talking to them than to him, if Baxter had to compare both of their first introductions.

“It’s just,” Cove continues, a slight blush on his face. “The waves just look really inviting today.”

The two pen pals laugh. The one from back home has the politest smirk they could manage. “It’s alright Cove, I’ve been told people can only handle so much of me. People back home felt that I was too much, they even drove me out of Golden grove for the summer.”

They give an exaggerated sob, clutching their heart and another hand wiping fake tears away.

“I beg to differ,” The seaside townie snickers. “I’m willing to bet my entire shell collection they’re miserable without their local fae around them.”

There’s a groan in response. “Please tell me you don’t go around referring to me as some fairy-”

Cove laughs. “Not just some fairy for sure. For a really long time, I just knew you as the Fairy from Golden Grove.”

“It’s only fair,” There’s a twinkle in Baxter’s sweetheart’s eyes, and it’s butterflies all over again. It’s a reminder as to why he agreed to have a little fun with them on this lovely summer trip after all. “I mean, are you going to swear you don’t go around telling your friends you were writing letters to a Mermaid in Sunset Bird?”

The Fall Fairy raises their hand in surrender. “Okay, okay, so maybe that habit stuck around.”

And the two pen pals share a smile, one of years of stories and secrets Baxter was certainly not privy to.

“So? Does the fair Mermaid feel the same lull of the sea as their green-haired companion?”

“Just a little,” They sigh wistfully. “But I know that you and Baxter…”

They give Baxter a small smile, and he returns one in kind, more relaxed than the one he had affixed for the majority of the past few hours or so.

“Neither of you seem to gel with the beach life huh.”

Baxter finally speaks, breaking his self-inflicted vow of silence for the day.

“You’d know I’d willingly cross molten lava to spend time with you darling, but the ocean…”

The Fall Fairy makes a face as well. “And I love you and all, but it’s the sand I have beef with. How can you stand to be around so much of it when it's coarse and rough and irritating… And it gets everywhere!”

Cove snaps his fingers and beams. “I understood that reference!”

Baxter receives a sympathetic pat on the shoulder while the other forest mountain tourist gets a small smile thrown their way. “I could just sit here-”

“And put a stop to your summer goal of finally achieving surfing greatness?” The pen pal asks, clearly privy to all the other’s plans.

“Maybe not that ambitious,” Cove chuckles, the barest hint of mischief in his eyes. “I mean, unless you consider a record of only sticking to the board of a full 10 minutes every time-”

“Heeeeey,” Cove receives a gentle shove from his childhood friend, getting a stink eye for his comment. “I get that we all can’t be Cove Holden, but I’m not that bad!”

“I wouldn’t want to get in the way of your surf lessons, love,” Baxter assures them. “Go on. I’ll keep your friend here company, hm?”

Now that brings forth a look of surprise from his fellow Golden Grove townie.

His sweetheart looks between them both for a brief second, before nodding and gathering their stuff. “We’ll still be close enough to the boardwalk,” And they point to the portion of the beach in sight. “And if either of you ever feel like braving the sands and seas, you can come up to us, ok? Else we’ll be back soon.”

Baxter gets a quick peck on the cheek, and soon, it was just him and part of his past incarnate sitting across him. He keeps his eyes on the two Sunset Bird locals for as long as he can till they’re both bright-coloured human-shaped blobs in the distance.

The person across from him takes this time to fully drain their full cup, now playing with the straw as they create inharmonious sounds fidgeting with it and the cup lid.

“I guess,” They say at last. “If it was between the ocean and someone from Golden Grove, you still wouldn’t pick the ocean, huh.”

“You make it sound like I want to avoid anyone from…. From home.”

“Could have fooled me, Baxter.”

They have that look, the one that’s hurt but not filled with blame. It’s not one Baxter gets often from them. He wasn’t Tamarack or Qiu or Ren, and as far as he could recall, they weren’t that close.

“I’ve been busy with school.”

“Too busy to keep in touch with Autumn?”

It hurt. From the first time Baxter had pinpricks from hearing Qiu call the person sitting across from him pretty when they were kids (I knew him first you just moved here how did you already catch his eye) to seeing Qiu always always make time for them regardless of anything, everything.

Part of Baxter gets it. The eye-catching cranberry of their appearance, the peacekeeper and big heart, the openness to everyone…

He tries to keep it cool, under wraps. “I told you all before, I’m a bit too old to be hanging around you kids.”

“Gee,” They snort, looking away from him to gaze out to the beach, watching the other two of their afternoon quartet (and Baxter pretends to not be so relieved from the short reprieve from their gaze). “Didn’t realise being three years older made you an old man.”

He doesn’t know why. But he feels almost everything is bubbling to the surface. He wasn’t expecting to see anyone from back Home out in a beachy town, let alone a kid he used to play with. Specifically someone he knew Qiu held dear, someone who had a solid presence in the woodland wonder with the people around them.

“I’m surprised you didn’t drag your two best friends with you.”

“It’s just a week away, I’m sure they’ll survive,” He sees the smile, and Baxter can’t tell if they’re forcing it or how genuinely it rings. “And I don’t think Ma wants to watch over three teenagers, even if it is just for a week.”

They let the silence return. Baxter takes his turn to break it, quelling any break in his voice. “So. Will you tell them?”

He doesn’t need to specify.

“...No. It’s not my right.”

And I want you to talk to them again.

They don’t need to say it for Baxter to hear it.

“But it makes such a tale! How funny a coincidence this is.”

“I know right? And really, I should have known,” He hears a soft laugh, and they turn back to him again. “Who else would compliment a random stanger’s legs after dancing with them once at a party he crashes and then turn up five years later as their new neighbour?”

Ah. So they knew about that random chance encounter. It seemed so long ago…

“In my defence, they really do have nice legs and I can still recall that they were an exceptional dance partner. I’m only honoured they remembered me too.”

“Aw, come on Baxter. Give yourself some credit. There’s just something so memorable about a mysterious and handsome stranger.”

“Now I think you’re being dramatic, and that’s coming from me.”

They shrug, soft smile still in place. “I believe otherwise. Even I thought you were soooo mysterious and cool, you know.”

He gets a playful wink and deep down he just can’t even fault Qiu for falling so fast. Due to his own actions of putting distance between well, almost everyone from their little Boys Club (again, a hilarious notion as out of his three founding members, he was the only remaining actual boy so to speak), he can’t be sure if Qiu finally broke their vow on maintaining their sacred bond of friendship and just confessing to their long time crush. He could just ask said crush opposite him but…

“I’m honoured to have made such an impact on ‘mini’ you. But clearly, you’re the true master of leaving stronger impressions, considering you managed to form the image of a fairy from just faceless letters alone.”

“It was their idea to call me that!”

“Now now, I think it suits you.”

Woodland Fairy of Golden Grove. Even under the sweltering heat of the beach town, they managed to carry the heart of fall with them, their sheer amber shawl over their dark red swimsuit. Even in summer, layering seemed prominent for them.

There’s a roll of eyes and a pointed look, no bite thanks to the prominent smile. “Well thank you, kind sir. But it seems I’m still no match for you.”

“And you think that because?”

“If I say please really sweetly, will you at least give Autumn a call? It doesn’t even have to be right now. Just… Soon.”

“...I really don’t think-”

“Or, I don’t know, come home for winter break or something.”

“No promises,” And boy does their sad face make him guilty. “But, I'll give it some thought. I may have plans in the works with other classmates for winter break so...”

They clear their throat, trying to match his cool. “Of course. I’d expect no less from Mr Popular.”

They remain in silence until the beach town duo returns. He can only be grateful for their kindness in not questioning the tense mood. Nor his inexplicable anti-socialness for the rest of the week.

He does, however, accompany his sweetheart to say goodbye when their pen pal’s week in Sunset Bird comes to an end. Albeit from a distance.

“Write to me!”

“You know, I think you’re the only person who still wants letters despite how you could just call, or text or email-”

“And deny myself the penmanship of my fairy friend? I think not!”

There are hugs all round, till they got to him.

“Safe travels.”

“Thank you, Baxter. Have a nice summer break.”
